Engine light came due to the oil consumption replace intake & exhaust camshaft actuator solenoid valves
The pcv valve build up condensation while running, which subsequently froze. upon starting the vesicle again, it built pressure to such an extent that it then blew out my rear main seal. it is exactly the scenario described in gm's special coverage adjustment #14882 or document id 4098165. somehow my vin is not covered under this known defect! this is ridiculous. the warning i had was a power steering light flash, then later a oil pressure light flash (all went out). this happened on the highway and on surface streets. this became worse when breaking.
At approximately, 92000 miles on my equinox, while driving on a highway the pcv valve clogged/froze and exerted to much pressure to my engine causing the rear main seal to blow and spill all of the engine's oil all over the ground. this caused the engine to seize up and stall. thankfully, i was able to pull off to the side of the road and avoid any accident. this exact issue is detailed under gm's service bulletin 14882 which lists a recall on this vehicle. however, my vin# is not covered for some reason. this recall has to be extended to other vin #'s. i currently have my car sitting at a chevy repair shop awaiting service totaling over $1800 to repair this issue which should have been covered by the recall. gm has not handled this recall properly.
I purchased this vehicle about a year ago from original owner. it has burned oil since i owned it. i have 83,000 miles on the vehicle and the engine seized on me. the cost to repair is $6700. i have had oil changes every 2,000 miles since i bought it and take good care of my vehicles. i will never buy chevy again.
Done a oil change and about 3 weeks later no oil. had to change the camshaft sensor and now throwing the code 420. runs sluggish and exhaust is now blowing through the vents.
Burning oil. i got an oil change and within less than a month i had no oil in my car. not use and driven a lot either.
My 2012 chevy equinox lt2 with a 2.4l 4 cyl, has had the same condition diagnosed by a certified chevy dealership, clements chevrolet in rochester, mn. bulletin #14882, describes the excessive high oil consumption. this has happened on this vehicle, with the pistons and rings needing to be replaced, due to recall # 16118. the vehicle was brought in to dealership multiple times for regularly scheduled vehicle oil consumption tests. they found nothing wrong at those intervals. now the pcv orifice was plugged by moisture in the intake manifold, causing the main seal to blow out. they are telling me it's not covered by their recall, despite gm having this issue on models from 2010-2018 year models of the chevy equinox 2.4l motor. this is an obvious design flaw, as outlined by the class action law suit currently being decided in the courts of florida, over this exact case.
Burning lots of oil and gm is not doing anything to help me
The equinox burns excessive oil and make loud noise if the oil get low. no low oil light indicator does not work. after monitoring the engine consumptions for 2 months, i have to put a quart of oil every 300/400 miles which is every two weeks.
Takata recall, i have a 2012 equniox, the timing chain sliped and broke causing engine damage,i am a gm man by heart, own all gm products, my silverodo has 329000 miles, and still going, my yukon ,266000 still going, why do i have a 2012 equniox with 138000 miles and a chain breaks and destroys my engine, i was told that gm was sending recall warrantys for this 2012 equniox for this problem, please advice, (xxxxx) is my name, (xxxx) is my number, (xxxx) is my email address. redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
Gm notified us of a known oil consumption problem with the vehicle. our vehicle was constantly losing oil. we completed the oil consumption tests over a period of two years before the service department would replace the piston and rings, which were replaced in june 2018. july 1st 2019, after 10,000 miles, the engine exploded and caught fire while driving the vehicle down the street. fortunately, no one was serious harmed. the vehicle stopped in the middle of a 6 lane street in moderate traffic. the fire department was called and put the fire out. the vehicle could not be pushed out of traffic and was towed to the service department.
Oil consumption is ridiculous. i have to add oil every 750 miles, car makes ticking noise when first started and lunges when vehicle comes to a stop. sluggish when driving on interstate.
Vehicle will stop while driving, sitting at light, and driveway.. i have to continue putting oil in every other day. power steering light came on, unable to start my vehicle or roll windows up. doesn't want to start now.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle hesitated and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was driven to the contact's residence where the oil filter was replaced and five quarts of oil were added. the contact also stated that the oil consumption on the vehicle was approximately a quart and a half high each week. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 156,284.
Since buying this vehicle, it has excessively burned through oil. every time i go for an oil change which is always before the avg. 5000 miles i am told that the oil is very low. i have started adding 2-3 quarts of oil in between oil changes- this still shows up as low oil at the oil change. i never have an indicator light telling me my oil is low. the first couple of times i went in to change the oil after i bought it the car was riding really rough- shaking, loud, stalling. i didn't know what it was. good thing i took it for an oil change right away. i was told it was almost completely dry! so i have been monitoring it since and adding oil. it seems like the problem is getting worse. at my last oil change i found out that this is a common problem with the equinox. i called chevy dealership. was given the run around. i persisted and was finally transferred to someone who knew of the issue. i was told i needed a oil consumption test and i would have to pay for it. they would check my oil every 1000 miles x3 to see if it qualified for free repair. after doing some searching online i found out that gm is being sued by several states because of this exact issue. unfortunately i do not live in those states. i do not feel safe driving this vehicle now that i know this problem is getting worse and i have found out that some of the cars with the same issue, have had their engine seize while driving it on the highway.
The vehicle turned completely off, could not get key out of ignition and electrical system was totally done. i had to get it towed to repair shop. i paid 1500 to get it back on. r stopped in the middle of highway while driving. repaired it by changing timing chain and a month layer the electrical system went out again while waiting at a stop light. no warning just turned completely off and had to get it towed again to caar repair shop. i was told that it was probably.tje transmission or engine. not worth the price of repair because it would probably end up costing more than the car was worth.
My 2012 chevy equinox motor has been severely damaged by an oil consumption problem. its unsafe to drive... the engines have been blowing up...they oil system notification lights are faulty and has never came on... therefore we have to check & put oil in our car before driving everyday!! this has caused serious problems in our motor scraps of metal, timing chain, piston n rings, stalling choking etc..on every road we are..scarey while on highway n car stalls out!!! we have put 1000 $ into this car already gm knows of this problem and is giving me the run around even thou there are 1000's with same problem and class actions suits!! please help us be safe on the road and have gm stand by their product and fix them that's all i want is my car fixed...nothing more i am within the miles and the time frame been putting my own money into this since april of 2019 thank you
The engine has being replace and we are having trouble with this one check engine light was came on twice excessive oil consumption as well
I purchased this car on 3/29/2019 and on 4/1/2019 found that the engine is suuseptable to excessive oil consumption causing engine to wear out and could stop running on the road making it a safety hazard. also that the steering causes resistance to steering when changing lanes causing a highway safety hazard. am i included in the class action lawsuit filed against general motors?
Frequent stalling when starting from a stop including at red lights and stop signs. also trips check engine light. have taken it in for service several times. checked throttle body, cam sensor, other sensor, solenoids, changed oil twice, checked for recalls or service bulletins, all work done by mechanics at goodyear, they tried and tried and finally gave up after saying it was a real safety issue and they had no idea how to fix it. the dealer's position is that there is no problem, but obviously there is. the check engine light codes have been reviewed and every possible cause seems to have been explored. there are quite a number of similar complaints about stalling for the equinox if doing a web search. has recurred over several weeks, goodyear service typically fixes it for less than 50 miles.
On three different occasions, i had an equinox serviced for weird engine sounds. each time, i was told it was a normal sound. the first time occurred a month after i purchased the vehicle. the second time, my vehicle shut off at a stop light and turned on service engine/ service stabilitrak. the third time, the company i brought it to said that my vehicle was having oil consumption and recommended having my piston rings replaced. i've called general motors many times and each time i was told that i would have to pay to replace these parts myself. i just hit a year after i bought this vehicle. i parked it seven months after purchasing it due to the noise and oil comsumption as recommend. my oil was barely on the dip stop the last time it was brought it. i had an oil change not even three weeks before this occurred. general motors should be ashamed of making this vehicle. my car only has 153,000 miles on it.
Back on jan 14, 2019 oil was changed as part of routine at a service station. operator suggested we take it in to the dealers as part of an oil consumption recall he heard about, within 200 miles we took it into a dealership for the test to be performed and they refused to do it due to a rear main seal leak that no one mentioned earlier or at the oil change place. they wouldn't repair it as part of the gm service bulletin 14882 (which is what caused the issue) had to pay $1700 just to get the seal fixed so they could perform the test on an issue gm already was aware of! vehicle finally failed the consumption test and had the recall done at another dealership. within 3 weeks of being fixed multiple electronic issues have popped up like the stabilitrak disabling, engine power decrease warning, stalling when in idle, burnt smell, air bag lights, and above avg engine noises and has shut down on the highway. taking it back to the dealer who fixed it to see what can be done. this is my wife's daily driver and takes our kids everywhere so it's imperative that people read this an really think hard before buying this gm product if you've got a family. current;y under 91,000 miles but it seems like oil changes became more frequent around 75,000 without warning of oil being low.
Gm service bulletin 14882 while driving my 2012 chevy equinox it died suddenly without warning on a city street. no warning lights, or nothing to indicate a problem. i was luckily able to get to a safe location where i noticed a trail of oil and oil severely leaking out from underneath my vehicle. i had it towed to a chevy dealership and the pcv valve is plugged and caused the rear main seal to leak. my vin number is not covered in the gm service bulletin 14882 even though it is the exact same issue. this is a hazard for drivers as there was no warning at all of an issue and my vehicle died suddenly.
There is a problem with the actuator solenoids with the 2012 chevy equinox. while operating the 2012 chevy equinox in any capacity it stalls especially when accelerating from a complete stop causing the vehicle to stop in oncoming traffic. they cause the vehicle to also stall when backing and or even when in idle. we have replaced these twice in the last 5 months.
Since april 2018 i have been experiencing issues with my vehicle when coming to a slow stop. initially i thought the issue had to do with my brakes. i have taken the vehicle in to the brake shop three times since april 2018 and they had repeatedly told me the brakes are not the issue. i had my check engine light come on in december 2018 so i took my vehicle into the huber chevrolet in omaha for an oil change even though it was not due yet for another 3 weeks. i was never told during this visit that my oil was low. on march 7th, 2019 the check engine light came on again so i took it in again the same day even though it wasn't due for an oil change for another 1000 miles. i was told my vehicle was 3 qts low on oil. i was also told of this "special policy". i was asked to bring my vehicle back in after 500 to 700 miles to have the oil consumption tested. i was told my vehicle's "policy" only lasted til may 2019 which is just a couple months away. i was also told that one issue the fast oil consumption caused was issues with the vehicle shaking/rattling when coming to a stop. these are the exact things my vehicle has been experiencing since april 2018. i believe that this huber chevrolet gm dealer should have notified me during earlier visits about my oil consumption issue. after my oil change today i have learned from the internet of all the issues concerning oil consumption with gm vehicles made between 2010-2017. i am adamant that i never received any letter from gm about this oil consumption problem. i am upset that gm dealers like the one i go to were not obligated to tell owners of these vehicles about the oil consumption issue. i am now in the position of having just til may 2019 of proving my vehicle is experiencing this same oil consumption issue that gm and its dealers have been well aware of.
Frozen pvc system forcing rear main seals to blow out. the car started fine but soon started trying to cut off...battery light came on. car soon cut off. this car only has 84,596 miles on it.
While driving to the gas station, and then to work, my vehicle got very sluggish while going down the highway but then resumed normal operation. i stopped to get gas and look over the exterior of the vehicle and found nothing to be out of the ordinary. i filled the gas tank and proceeded to drive the 1 mile to my place of employment. when pulling into the parking lot, i began hearing a knocking sound that i recognized immediately. i parked the vehicle immediately and looked around again. that is when i saw the oil on the ground. i examined the engine to look for the source of the oil leak. the oil filter, drain plug, and drain pan all were clean and dry. there was oil on the frame and the underside of the floorboard that can be seen from underneath the vehicle. after a few internet searches, i found a service bulletin (#14882) that told me everything that had happened. the temperature was well below freezing that day and it was snowing. i have a strong suspicion that the water that had made it's way into the pcv system had frozen, the pressure built up until it forced the rear main oil seal out resulting in all of the oil in my vehicle to exit the engine during my drive. the service bulletin indicated that chevrolet and gm knew about the condition and yet did nothing to solve the issue.
My wife was driving down the highway and she received a warning stating 'reduced engine power' and 'service stabilitack'. wishing a few seconds of this her car died on the highway and would not start back up. upon initial review the pcv line was blocked with ice as it was single digit temperature. when i checked the oil level there was nothing. the oil light never came on according to my wife. i put 2 quarts of oil in the car and it started back up, however it barely made it 4 miles back to the house before the oil was gone and the undercarriage of my vehicle was smoking from the oil coming out. this is exactly described in bulletin 14882. my car has just over 107k miles and appears meet all criteria of said bulk item. however, upon speaking with chevrolet about this bulletin. my car is not covered.
While my 20 year old son was driving my 2012 chevy equinox with 88567 miles to work along back country roads at 6am on a dark cold michigan morning he noticed the smell of burning oil while pulling into his employers parking lot. as it got lighter out thru the morning he noticed that the whole rear of the vehicle was covered in oil, with further investigation he discovered the whole under carriage was also covered in oil. had him get vehicle towed to dealership where they diagnosed the issue as a rear main seal blown due to a clogged pcv valve, which matches a service bulletin (14882) in which dealership would not honor because of limited vin's included per bulletin.
My vehicle loses power for maybe 30 seconds then it starts up again this is happened three times and this time while pulling onto the road the vehicle lost power and i almost had an accident is there a recall for this problem
Heard loud tapping noise in engine compartment when started up stoped engine checked oil level did not have any oil just changed oil two weeks ago and hardly drove anywhere no oil leaks anywhere plus oil light never came on?????
Whenever i'm driving and park not all the time switch the key off but the truck wants to crank back up on its own it just be sitting still and it tries to turn the motor on it's getting a little freaky and i don't like that
I was driving on the freeway on a very cold morning. all of a sudden i heard a pop sound and my car would not work. i have only 67,000 miles on my car. the entire engine failed and had to be replaced. my mechanic said that in the past 2 weeks he had 3 other people with the same problem. according to him the engine is not made properly because if condensation builds up it has no way to be released and it blows the engine. ironically when i called my boss to tell her she said she had the exact thing happen to her 2 weeks ago on her equinox.
Driving to work on city street after getting off interstate the engine locked up (all the oil was forced out through the rear main seal) in my 2012 chevrolet equinox with only 76,542 miles. luckily i was not on the interstate at 60 mph - who knows what could have happened? general motors knows about this pcv and excessive oil consumption issue. they have extended "special coverage" for part of this problem. if letters were sent out i never received any. this defect is happening more frequently - many complaints available on the internet. maybe this 4 cylinder engine needs to be investigated before someone gets injured. the gm dealer said there was no neglect on my part but i had to pay $5194.15 to have my engine replaced.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the engine failed. when the contact attempted to start the vehicle, the engine failed to start. when the engine finally started, it would shut off soon after. the failure occurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the oil control, variable timing, and solenoid valves failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v502000 (electrical system, power train). the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the failure mileage was 87,527.
To whom it may concern, i am emailing you regarding my 2012 chevy equinox and a rear main seal issue. i found the below service bulletin regarding special coverage in march of 2015 regarding the issue related to my vehicle. i was not informed of this issue in purchasing my vehicle from team one chevrolet in charlotte, mi and i have received any assistance from gm. i have basically been told that it is too bad that my vehicle is not part of the associated vins that will actually fall within this coverage. on monday, january 21st we had exceptionally cold weather in lansing, mi and my rear main seal broke. this was due to default from the pvc, which is stated in this bulletin. upon reaching out to my local dealership, this issue is not covered. in reading the bulletin, my car is one of the impacted cars; however, my vin does not match the list of 'impacted' vins. there is no location where the 'impacted" vins are located for public view and i am very disappoint with the way gm is and has handled this issue. how it is possible that a document does not include the vins associated and you have to trust the dealership to tell you if your vehicle qualifies. i am including the special coverage bulletin below, as well as a forum of upset customers who also have this vehicle. https://gm.oemdtc.com/tsb/sb-10057977-8108.pdf https://www.equinoxforum.net/23-equinox-general-discussion/15305-rear-main-seal-leak-2.html i hope to see gm make this right in the future and support the safety of their customers. i can say that my family all work for gm and i purposely went with gm for this reason. unless this is corrected, i will not again. sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The timing chain had to be replaced at 140,000 miles. ($2,000) [occurred jan. 2018] their is an issue causing with leaky pistons causing oil to evaporate. my car was low on oil (though the "low oil" indicator had not gone off) and the pressure inside the engine caused the rear main seal to break. (replacement of refurbished engine + labor est. $4,000) [occurred jan 2018 at 170,000 miles) not to mention that the back, left door is closed, though a sensor says it is ajar. the sensors in the tires are always way off, tempting me to over-inflate tires. [infinity.]
Uses oil lots had to replace timing chain at only 67000 miles now back in shop for another gm known issue but they won't cover it had the pvc freeze up which created extra pressure in crank case and blew out my main rear seal lost all oil in engine and while it had no oil no warning lights came on i knew to shut off engine with some knocking noise i have two small kids and this is a live and death issue that gm won't take care of they published bulletin on this for my make and year of car but i put in my vin and it's not covered even tho it's the same part and design that's in question i don't know how gm can get away with this the car is a death trap after this repair i'll put in over $4000 in repairs i think they need to replace this engine with a different type people are gonna be killed by this
My 2012 chevrolet equinox timing chain broke only after 3 year whybi was driving at 35 mph a hour kept hearing this noise. i see it's over 1000 complaints on just this part alone and it's a big safety issue and it's gkong to court me 2800 to get it fix
My 2012 equinox has about 122,000 miles on it. i bout it in 2012, new. about 3 weeks ago, it frequently began to jerk and almost stall out when in drive and at a stop. i would have to put it in neutral most times to keep it from jerking so hard. it also ran very loudly. then a few days ago the engine light came on, but then went off after i filled up my gas tank. i took my car to the dealership yesterday and they said my car was low on oil, so i told them that it was due for an oil change and they did. but the also said that i needed to replace my timing chain, which would be about $2000 dollars and they said that my car may be burning oil and if that's the case then i would need to replace timing chain and pistons and the price would be double. i picked my car up yesterday after the oil was changed and the care drove fine. then, this afternoon while in the car line to pick up my son from school. my car completely stalled out while in drive and at a complete stop. it easily restarted but then stalled out again about 2 minutes late in the line. i was able to make it home after that but i am now concerned for my family's safety when driving a car that stalls out while in drive. i read up on my vehicle and found that there are numerous complaints from others with the same make, model, and year. something definitely needs to be done about this as gm doesn't seem to care. thank you.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced high oil consumption, which caused the contact to have to add extra oil in the vehicle weekly. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 73,000. *bf consumer stated engine blew, stalling of car, oil consumption rapidly. dealer fixed problems. engine light came back on january 2019 took back to dealer, dealer stated needed to check oil there was none in the car. car started shaking @ light stalling, making loud noise. gmc is aware of the problem and refuses to fix the problem which is the pistons that need repair.*jb
Exhaust manifold cracked. so many other complaints. is there a service bulletin available for this issue?
Recalled motor was recalled due to engine oil consumption gm failed to replace bearings and hone cylinders that showed signs of burning dealer agreed to replace pistons rings and pistons nothing else .did not do any much to resolve motor problem should have repalced motor completly
1.excessive oil consumption from day 1 - was told it was normal, 2.fluttering sound in the engine when cranked. 3.idling rough for a looooonnnng time. 4. replaced both intake & exhaust cam sensors 5. removed and replaced fan drive belt. 6.car started shifting roughly. 7. started idling so low that i had to keep my foot on the gas so it wouldn't shake violently and cut off. mostly when i was stopped but started shaking and cutting off when i just slow down. same thing when i back up. also when i slow down to make a turn. last time i drove it (2 days ago) it shook violently and cut off on me 4 times. waiting for the dealer to call me back now.. please make gm/chevrolet do a recall!!! thanks for your help!
There was a recall for major oil consumption so i took it to the dealer and they checked, said everything was good...bs!! i changed oil in oct, completely dry in dec! i have had to replace intake/exhaust position actuators twice now. fluttering sound in the engine when cranked. now i have (4) different codes 3 of which pertain to fuel pressure reg/system rail and the other once again for the position actuator. and it ran fine before being parked in garage for only a couple hours, once started it shook and vibrated violently.
Car is using excessive amounts of oil. car is maintained on a regular basis. oil is being checked every 2-3 days due to amount of oil being used at which time i have to add about 2 quarts of oil to car. i habe only had car 17 months and have already replaced both oxygen sensors both catalyst convertors and done 3 oil changes. only use oil with dexos in it as recommended. check engine like has come on a couple times with code saying running too rich. oil smells like gasoline on the stick. habe also had a white slimey substance on the oil cap. spoke with repair tech at chevy dealership and he stated its a known issue with my engine. bullentin does not cover my car since i have 165,000 miles on it.
Engine starting using 1 1/2 quarts of oil every 400 miles if we drive 1000 miles engine light come on this is a 2012 chevy equinox dealer said they will rebuild the motor under the extended warranty we will wait and see what other problems arise out of this rebuild ....problems we never had before
Sudden loss of oil.
The right head light side goes on and off, the stereo turnes off while listening to it and the signal lights don't work when the radio turns off on its own also the rear view camera turns off at the same time the radio does. the front and rear wipers don't always work. the engine lights comes on and off and the tire pressure sensor comes on and off. also engine oil consumption.
The engine is burning oil at excessive rates. once the oil is low the oil light is not coming on. the engine will stall, buck, or shift into 2nd gear faster than normal causing the car to lurch. it is very dangerous when driving to have the car stall or when going from a stop to pressing the gas and have the car lurch forward. this has happened while in motion and caused me to loose control of the car briefly. the car has stalled when coming to a stop and caused cars to nearly rear end me. the car has also stalled when accelerating.
