Frozen pcv valve caused pressure in the engine which caused main seal of engine to blow out and all the oil drains out of the engine .the vehicle was in motion.on city streets just driving in the winter. it will cost 2000.00 for repairs
Exhaust cam shaft solenoid valve replaced 3 times within 1 year. cam shaft intake accuator replaced 1 time. engine check light came on while traveling on freeway. error code p0014/p0013 confirmed by dealership at time of repairs. recently had front windshield wiper transmission failed. also while traveling via freeway during a heavy rain storm this car has 58000 miles at this time and very well maintained.
Briefly, for the last month and a half i have experienced rough idle on start and rough idle & stall with the car losing power and going dead at red lights and in traffic while in drive. i took the car to the auto mechanic and stored codes suggested replacing o2 sensors, the catalytic converter and a tune-up would resolve the issue; i replaced all of the above to the tune of 1400.00; the issue of rough idling, stall & losing power, going dead at the light/ sitting in traffic has not resolved. the 2012 equinox is not safe to drive; it just keeps stalling and going dead/losing power while in drive. i have spent almost 1400.00 trying to diagnose and fix this issue since december 1. my car does not have the cel but still idles roughly, stalls and loses power/stops randomly at red lights and in traffic. i have been unable to safely use the 2012 equinox for approximately three out of the four weeks of december. out of frustration i googled my experiences with the car and discovered that this apparently is a common issue that was found in the 2011 model (see nhtsa id# 10430919; 10437891; 10499684 & 10413320. recall#11195 & 12312. bulletin #pi0562, pi0202a, pip4716 & pi0469). apparently this issue was not fixed or addressed in subsequent models as i have been unable to locate a service bulletin or recall although my car a 2012 chevrolet equinox is having the same issue. the consumer should not have to pay 1,000's of dollars diagnosing and fixing known manufacture defects. subsequent vehicles made after the issue was found in th 2011 should have been fixed or should be covered under service bulletins & recalls especially since the car idles rough when starting, loses power and cuts off while in drive with your foot on the brake in stop & go highway traffic or at street red lights- this is very unsafe and can result in an unnecessary accident or even god forbid a fatality.
Bought my 2012 equinox 9/2012. in february 2013 my suv made a loud noise and wouldn't start. had it towed to dealership and they replaced the motor. today when i was driving my vehicle showed "reduced engine power" and slowed to almost a stop. i made it home but not sure if it's driveable now. i'm a nurse and was in home health until this last year, so my vehicle has high mileage. 113,000. but even at that you'd think spending $23,000 on a new vehicle it would last longer then 5 years.
During 2018 and earlier, my 2012 equinox which was purchased brand new 07/25/2012 has been burning/using way more oil than normal. the oil check light and/or check engine light does not come on. there is a rattling noise from the engine, which my husband thinks it could be the pistons and/or valves. there is no leakage on the carport or seals. i have always taken my vehicle to be serviced at the burien chevrolet dealership. i have mention numerous times about the oil situation and the servicing rep. always said, just make sure to monitor it. i have a problem with always adding more than the normal amount of oil and not actually fixing the internal rattling noise (root cause). after researching this type of situation for my vehicle type, i found it falls exactly in line with 'excessive engine oil consumption' situation. same audible rattle or knock from the engine can be heard. i have never received any information regarding this and have a scheduled diagnostic test scheduled for tomorrow. i should demand the dealer to service perform an oil consumption test for free and if my vehicle does not pass, have the dealer fix the pistons and/or valves billed to gm. my ask is'would nhtsa have any documentation and/or links to assist in following up?
My 2012 equinox, with just under 87,000 miles was going through a quart of oil about every 1,000 - 1,500 miles. driving home recently, it just died on me. fortunately, i was able to coast to the side of the road. i had it towed to a garage and was told i needed a new engine. they said the timing chain stretched and there were multiple bent valves and broken rocker arms. i got a second opinion and they found the same thing. i had a gm dealership replace the engine with a used one that has 23,000 miles. needing it for work, i had them do it right away. after doing some research, i found these are not uncommon problems. i called gm with my complaint but they just keep 'elevating' my complaint. which is apparently their way of just passing it on to another person who will tell me there's nothing they can do about it. the last person told me they couldn't help me because i replaced the engine with a used one. i'm waiting for another call, but i don't expect any help from them.
Had to have both converters replaced and they replaced the upstream o2 sensor as well. november 13, 2018 the car would barely pull a hill, and would act like it was going to cut off. we replaced the downstream o2 sensor which took care of the check engine light, and then we did an oil change on november 17, 2018. we have kept up with all the maintenance as recommended with dexos oil. the car is still acting very sluggish and lurches or revs to a higher rpm while driving at times. after the oil change to december 15th, i had put an additional gallon and a half of oil in the car besides what was put in during the oil change. on december 15th, went to check the oil and noticed a slimy yellowish white substance in the oil cap of the car. advised me to clean the cap out real good and dry it out. do an oil change to make sure the oil looked fine and was not cloudy. we also checked the antifreeze to make sure there was no oil present. we did another oil change and did everything our dealership told us to do, found the oil looked fine, but smelled of gas. that is when we started looking online and found the other complaints. right now don't have the thousands of extra funds to send it to the shop or replace the engine, but from other complaints that looks like what is going to have to happen. saturday spoke with a tech at a chevrolet dealership and he said it is a known issue with my car, and that gm sent out a bulletin in 2017 but that my car would not be covered as it is over the 140,000 miles limit since my car is currently 165,000 miles on it. we are currently checking the oil every 2-3 days and putting oil in as needed, as this week along we have added almost 2 quarts of oils and have went less than 200 miles. i refuse to drive it on the highway as i'm afraid that something is going to happen and i'm going to be in an accident, so i take all back roads.
I have a 2012 chevy equinox with under 76,000 miles on it tell me it need a new timing chain. the cramshaft position has issues. i turned the car on one day to go to work and the check engine light can on i'm being told that's the issue. i'm not understanding how a car 6 years old needs engine work to this extent!?
The vehicle burns oil and the gas pedal occasionally stops working while driving and the steering wheel locks. i was driving on a street downtown in a city and the gas pedal stopped working in the middle of the street and the steering wheel would not turn. i had to restart the car to get it to work again.
I contacted chevrolet in november 2018 about excessive oil consumption. my car is usually 2.5 quarts low by the time 3000 miles is driven from the last oil change & i am worried my engine will lock up. i do all routine maintenance and get regular oil changes and service. this model should not use that much oil between oil changes. now, since dealing with these other issues, when i come to a stop, it idles from about 700 down to 500 and it idles so low, my lights flicker & it sounds like it is going to cut off. my vehicle idles correctly when in park. it only idles roughly when in drive or reverse while at a stop. i contacted chevrolet again, via phone, and they tell me "unfortunately it's not part of the recall and repairs will be out-of-pocket" i am disappointed that chevrolet wont stand behind their products enough to recall and repair them as they should be. this problem started at around 114,000 miles. while this was all going on, the windshield wiper motor and transmission had to be replaced, which was also a recall, but not on my vehicle. i am so disappointed that chevrolet wont recall and repair my vehicle. this is definitely something that they should take care of. how many people complaining of the same issues before they do what they're supposed to so their customers are happy and their vehicles are in proper working and driving condition so they don't endanger others from faulty parts?! if my vehicle dies while driving down the interstate, that will cause problems for more than just me! i have emailed chevrolet 2 other times and have received no response. i'm so disappointed. i expected them to manufacture better quality motors than what these have turned out to be. it's sad it takes so many people to complain to actually get something done.
My equinox began "bucking" one evening on my way home from work. i have changed the oil regularly (every 5000 miles) and was unaware of any issues with this model having excessive oil consumption problems. i brought to my local mechanic- he informed me that there was actually oil in the tailpipe and that these vehicles were known for having oil consumption issues. i arranged to have the vehicle towed to a chevrolet dealer- i did not want to drive it as it was a huge safety concern with the engine bucking and possibly stalling in traffic. the chevrolet dealer had it for the whole week and eventually told me it had "jumped timing". joe the service manager at central chevrolet in west springfield, ma told me they would have to see if there was further damage - ie to the valves. so the next call i get is from the warranty administrator at the dealer- she tells me i need a new engine and that chevrolet will cover 30% of the replacement - would i like to have it done? i ask her- well you tell me they will cover 30% but 30% of what? she said that my share would be $ 5100. this was not acceptable- a vehicle with 48,000 miles and the engine needs to be replaced. it sounds like chevrolet knew of the issue with this engine as evident by the numerous complaints and class action online. had they notified owners appropriately and had the appropriate warning systems in the vehicles then this would not have happened. this has the potential to be a huge safety concern as people use these vehicles to transport family members to school, work, etc. if these vehicles run this way and even stall in traffic then there is huge potential for serious injury and/or death. i have tried to speak with general motors directly, but they have not responded with acceptable remedy. please help the owners of these vehicles get the appropriate help - and to help keep their families safe.ty
Car stalls and jerks really hard under light acceleration, the check engine light comes on and stays on when it happens, had it checked and it shows bad camshaft sensor, but it has been replaced and still have the same issue, this is all after they fixed my engine from using too much oil. it starts fine and idles fine but stalls and jerks under acceleration, but it doesn't always do this, it mainly happens when you drive a few miles stop at the store then go back out and start it up. which it still starts just fine, then when you go to take off it does the stall/jerk when you try to accelerate. i'm not the only one with this vehicle and issue and something needs to be done.
Oil consumption
Purchased equinox at the end of june with 85,557 miles. frequently checked the "oil life" percentage. at 25%, the car started making an awful noise. at first it was mainly when i turned to the left. it also made the noise when i accelerated and then gradually it was noisy no matter which direction i turned. the car would lurch when idling at a stop light, even with my foot barely on the brake. it was extremely terrifying. have this car for less 3 months and this is happening??? took to monro for an oil change even though the oil life was only at 25%. mechanic was hesitant to do the oil change unless it was 10% or less. i insisted he change it anyway, with synthetic please, due to the noise it was making and how it was acting. i walked away to do kill time when i recv'd a call from him informing me that he would not do an oil change. he went on to explain that the noise it was making was from something knocking (pistons, rod) and if he were to do an oil change, he would be responsible for the engine should it "blow". he went on to inform me that the engine is going to be needed to replaced, it could "blow" in 3 hours or in 3 months. in tears, i asked how much that would (guesstimate) cost and he told me easily $5,000, half of what i paid for the [xxx] car. his last comment to me was, "i would suggest you drive right up to autozone and purchase 4 quarts of oil because you have no oil"!! reallly? my oil light did not come on, my percentage was 25%.... and i'm going to have to have work done to it that i simply cannot afford. i have since discovered there is a class action law suit including 2010-2017 equinoxes. parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly shut off. the failure occurred on six separate occasions. the vehicle was towed to andrew chevrolet (1500 west silver spring dr, glendale, wi) where it was diagnosed that the intake and exhaust solenoid valve were faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 39,000. *tt
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. while driving 65 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and remained lit. the vehicle was taken to a dealer (autry morlan chevrolet cadillac, 1901 w business u.s. 60, dexter, mo 63841, 573-232-1561) where it was diagnosed that the cam shaft actuator and the timing chain fractured. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 8-4533589750. the contact was informed to notify nhtsa. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was approximately 144,000.
This vehicle (79,000 miles) began stalling as we approach idle and requires it to be put into neutral and restarted - this is a serious safety issue. it is intermittent and there is no engine lights on or codes when checked. it has happened in town, in the country on a highway, and in our driveway. it has had multiple fuel types/brands in it since this started with no resolution. as i did research this issue online, it seems way to common and now i worry that our only reliable vehicle is not something we can count on any longer. please consider an investigation with a recall to make chevrolet fix the common issue spanning over several years of the same engine.
When my vehicle idols at a stop light, it starts to shake as if it wants to cut off. when i turn my wheel the inside makes a screeching sound.
The engine on my 2012 chevy equinox "died" unexpectedly after ~67000 miles. it occurred while driving, shortly after i had exited i-95. it resulted in an immediate loss of power that required me to swerve onto the grass beside the road to avoid getting hit by the car behind me. fortunately, i was alone in the car, and none of my children were present. the car was inspected by mechanics at the dealership who reported that the timing belt had failed, which caused irreparable damage to the engine. a quick internet search resulted in multiple reported cases of 2012 equinoxes that had similar issues. fortunately, the engine failure occurred after i had exited the highway. if it had occurred 15 minutes sooner, i would have lost power on the scudder's fall bridge over the delaware river and would have been in significantly more danger. when asked whether the dame was the result of a material defect in the engine, the gm representative i spoke with and the customer service rep at the dealership were non-responsive and would not comment.
Car constantly goes through oil, and today started stalling when i stop or start to accelerate.
Excessive oil consumption causing timing chain
Using oil. i have to add oil several times between changes. it does not smoke; nor does the oil gauge state any changes. the oil gauge light does not come on either to inform me of this. this has been happening for the past year of so.
High oil consumption wearing down the life of the engine. my timing chain guide broke due to the lack of oil in the vehicle. my chevy equinox was not due for another oil change for another 2,000 miles. this is a safety issue as it also stalls out.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. when the vehicle was started, it would turn on and off. onstar ran a diagnostic check and found that the engine was defective and needed to be replaced. an independent mechanic stated that the engine was defective and needed to be rebuilt. the dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted. the failure mileage was 139,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. when the vehicle was started, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the engine idled slowly. the vehicle was towed to maritime chevrolet (985 post rd, fairfield, ct 06824) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain was fractured. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. the failure mileage was approximately 145,000.
Timing chain broke
I have a 2012 chevrolet equinox with the excessive oil consumption defect cause by defective piston seals. it came on out of nowhere with only 78k miles on the car. we were driving 2 hours home, and half a mile after we exited the highway, while we were sitting in a drive-thru, our engine died entirely due to this defect. if it had happened a minute sooner, my car would have died on the highway, and my family would have been in a terrible accident and possible even killed. gm is refusing to cover the cost of the engine replacement, despite the fact that they extended the warranty on my vehicle specifically because of the known defect in the piston seals. this is a major hazard to consumer safety, and gm is avoiding issuing a recall to save themselves money. the dealership confirmed my car had the defect which caused the engine failure, and gm still won't do anything about it.
More than once while driving i have gotten power steering warnings while driving, vehicle locked up in the process and took all of my might to turn and get to the side of the road. i have constant oil changes and was issued a recall letter that the oil censor was off last may and the dealership said no such recall existed. recently my mechanic says the timing is off, an engine power reduced warning has come up more than once and i have stopped driving the car all together for fear is stops with my children and myself in it. the first time it came on two weeks ago, i was at an incredibly busy intersection and could not go over 20 mph, it was as if i was driving in neutral. i took myself and children straight to the mechanic. my mechanic has informed me that the amounts of repairs is more than the car may be worth. i see several complaints with issues matching my own and chevrolet has done nothing. my screen randomly goes out, the radio goes out, the oil censor has stopped coming on, engine lights comes on and off. my radiator was recently replaced as it was rusted and overheating the car. a car this age should not have this many issues. they must lie in the manufacturing process.
Using oil. not leaking from car. continuously putting in oil every 500 miles
While driving on the dan ryan expressway during rush hour traffic, engine continued dying out. got off the expressway and took side streets home to a mechanic who showed no oil in engine. oil life still read 40%. dealerships know about an oil consumption issue with these 2.4 engines and only told dealerships to repair after an oil consumption test is performed. gm never issued a notice to consumers only dealerships. we brought the car in before the letter was sent to the dealerships and now that were out of the "special extended coverage" we need to rebuild the engine. there are countless cases of these engine issues online, and a class action lawsuit has been started. customers need to be aware of the issues before someone gets hurt or even killed when their engine blows while driving. gm will not issue a recall unless told by the government to do it. this affects 2010 thru 2015 chevy equinox and gmc terrain vehicles.
2012 equinox, driving and engine rumbled before losing power. attempted to restart, and engine failed. brought in for service at dealership (~96400 miles) and the timing chain was failed causing permanent damage to the valve. full engine replacement necessary. if driving on highway or busy intersection, could have been a major safety concern. very lucky to be able to pull aside safely. gm refuses to do anything about the complaint even though there is known problems with this engine and this specific issue, their reasoning is that they cannot perform the oil consumption test. the lab service indicated that the oil was low.
My vehicle has been stalling any time i slow down to pull into a parking space, come to a stop at a light or slow down. my mechanic says its a problem with the equinox they say its an on going issue that they see. i also have to add oil every week or so because it becomes extremely low even though it says i have oil on my dash gauges.i have always kept up my oil changes, very rough sounding . very low miles under 35,000.not sure why this is not being addressed. not safe to be stalling all the time.everyone knows there is a problem why is it not being addressed
In september of 2017 i purchased a used 2012 chevy equinox with 52753 miles on. it appeared to be in excellent condition. at 54502 miles the change engine oil message displayed on the dash. according to the dealer sticker in the window it was not due until 57620. when i checked the oil it was bone dry. there was not a drop of oil on the dipstick. i had to put in almost 3 quarts. i called the local garage and was told that this is a common problem with certain model year gmc vehicles. " excessive oil consumption issues" is the term he used. i did some research and discovered that thousands of people have complained and continue to complain about the same issue. there is currently a class action lawsuit against gm for the 2010- 2017 chevy equinox. a recall needs to be issued as gm clearly has no intention of doing the right thing and taking care of this on their own.
I have had my engine rebuilt from dealership i bought it from due to oil disappearing and found it coming out of my exhaust! sense the repair i had to go back to dealership several times and also do a oil consumption test. now i have oil coming out of my exhaust still and and when i change my oil it smells like gasoline! been having this issue ever sense i have bought the car and i got my catalytic converters replaced and it still has same issues. obviously sense i been reading up on these cars there should be some recall with the engine 2.4 liter would make lots of owners happy!!!
The car has only 82,000 miles and the timing chain is shot. this is a common problem in the equinox caused by bad valve rings which gm admits to but won't fix rings without an oil consumption test of 3,000 miles. i've added 3 quarts of oil since the last oil change (only 2,000 miles ago). there is no oil leak. the dealer (atlantic chevrolet, bayshore, ny) has had my car for 3 days but won't repair the timing chain without a go ahead from gm which they say will require 2 more days! they need to issue a recall and fix rings and timing chains without making customers jump through so many hoops.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the rear main seal failed to remain connected, which caused an oil leak. the vehicle was diagnosed and repaired by an independent mechanic who replaced the rear main seal. the vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but there was no recall. the approximate failure mileage was 87,000. *tt
My chevrolet dealer would not honor tsb 14882 and diagnose and repair my vehicle free of charge. the reason given is that the tsb is vin specific and my car does not have the exact engine designated in the tsb. however, it is a chevrolet inline 4 cylinder engine that exhibits the identical symptoms as in the tsb. this tsb should be extended to cover all chevrolet 4 cylinder engines in the designated model years.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the vehicle made an abnormal noise. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine had no oil. the oil was replaced; however, the following day, the vehicle failed to operate. the vehicle was towed to ken waschke auto plaza (501 9th st n, virginia, mn) where the technician diagnosed that the engine was fractured and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the contact referenced gmc special coverage campaign: 16118; however, gmc denied to cover the vehicle due to oil changes not being performed by the dealer. the failure mileage was approximately 56,897. *tt
Check engine light goes off and on. vehicle often stalls upon stopping and at times has an extremely hard decel, which continues after the key is taken out of the ignition. vehicle idles hard. upon parking, vehicle has suddenly reported reduced engine power" and " check stabili trak" not allowing the vehicle to go over 40 mph.
I purchased a 2012 gm equinox on sept. 6, 2017 sept 9 my check engine light came on and vehicle was low on oil ' we added oil sept 13 i had a tire claim due to tires being 'dry rotted' per dealership. oct 19 car started driving funny, stalling ' stopped in middle of road with my 18 month old son and my 8 year old disabled daughter. had to call someone to come. when checked vehicle had almost no oil in it again. oct 29 ' bringing disabled daughter to school when car stalled in middle of road. checked and there was almost no oil in it. we have had to add oil to vehicle at least once a week since just to make sure i didn't break down taking my daughter to school. we did this every monday just as preventative maintenance because obviously there was a problem with the motor. feb 6 ' even after keeping oil in vehicle weekly my car wouldn't start this morning. checked oil etc. it finally started up later that day and i went to get my step daughters. when we got ready to leave and tried to crank car it made a loud whiny kind of sound and it smelled like wires or something burning. steering locked up and it wouldn't turn over again and i couldn't remove key from ignition. the vehicle wouldn't crank back. called someone to come. they checked battery, fuses, etc. i ended up having to leave my car where it was overnight believing it was an ignition problem. feb 7 ' mechanic was called to check car. rear main sealed was busted, timing chain had broken and severely damaged entire motor. entire engine was completely shot and had numerous broken pieces! i was told there was no warranty on this and dealership couldn't do anything about it. i decided to do some research. there are literally hundreds of complaints with details very similar to my own and end results the same as my own.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. after filling the vehicle with fuel, the contact noticed that the pcv valve heater was burning oil. the failure occurred twice. during the third failure, the cover detached and blew out the main seal. there were no warning indicators illuminated prior to the failure. the contact had the vehicle towed to defouw chevrolet (320 sagamore pkwy s, lafayette, in 47905, (765) 449-2800). the vehicle was not included in any recalls. the failure mileage was 81,000.
Vehicle was being driven on the tollway on a snowy evening with the temperature around 5 degrees. suddenly the vehicle started losing power and shaking and stalled in a lane of traffic and was unable to be restarted. this was a very unsafe situation as the visibility was poor due to the heavy snow and our vehicle was disabled and blocking a traffic lane. we had the vehicle towed to a repair shop which was able to get it started again but quickly turned it off as the engine sounded terrible. they checked the oil level to find no oil on the dipstick so they added oil and checked the level again and found metal shavings in the oil. the vehicle was restarted and sounded terrible and they found oil quickly leaking from the rear of the engine. upon further inspection they found the rear main seal had failed causing all the oil to leak out from the engine. i now had a vehicle with 84,000 miles on it that needed a new engine. upon researching this problem i quickly discovered this is a known issue with this engine that occurs in cold weather. the oil consumption issues as well as a pcv valve issue which clogs and caused the pressure to build up resulting in blowing out the rear main seal and is covered under tsb #14882 are known issues which lead to the failure of my engine. i was told by my local dealer that my vin # did not qualify for the tsb #14882 and repairs would not be covered as my warranty had expired 9 months ago. the shop was able to locate a used engine with 25,000 miles on it and used that to replace my faulty engine. in total i spent $3,470 for the engine replacement and towing charges.
When my vehicle is in motion i am not getting the amount of power i should be receiving once i press on the gas. i believe the timing is off and i have a code: p0013 issue, actuator circuit, cam shaft position. i have seen a recall to the 2011 model for the same reasons and i'm sure my vehicle is having the same issues.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a rapid oil consumption failure. also, the engine shook and vibrated while idling. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (medbev chevrolet, 11001 w. i-70 frontage road n, wheat ridge, co) where it was diagnosed that the timing belt had stretched and needed to be replaced. while repairing the timing belt, the mechanic determined that the engine was also damaged and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while idling, the vehicle would suddenly shut off. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer white bear lake chevrolet(1801 county rd. fe, white bear lake, mn) where it was diagnosed that parts of the engine were damaged due to an oil consumption failure. the engine actuator, the catalytic converter, the engine pistons and the timing chain were all replaced and the failure was not remedied. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 140,000. *bf consumer stated parts were replaced twice but wasn't fixed.*jb
While driving on interstate on 2/1/18 my oil light came on so i pulled over as quick as i could and shut off the car. i live in nd and it was below zero and it has been extremely cold. not sure what happened or why there was a pile of oil under my car i got it towed to the shop to find out my rear main seal blew out. the technician told me that there were ice crystals around the main seal and there was nothing that could have prevented it from happening. i paid $1,700 to get it fixed and the shop said that the engine was still good. well i picked it up from the shop and drove home (i live 40 miles out of town) and it seemed fine. unfortunately when i was driving to work the next day, mind you it was still well below zero degrees outside, the engine started knocking and i shut of the car as fast as i could; i got stranded along the interstate again but this time with my 6 month old son' sitting in the freezing cold waiting for a ride' i am still furious!! i got the equinox towed to the shop again to find out that my engine is now wrecked. there is only 84,000 miles on the vehicle and it needs a new engine. this is ridiculous; hopefully chevrolet will keep me as a customer and pay for the engine that got wrecked because of their faulty rear main seal that can't perform in cold weather.
Excessive oil consumption recall for new pistons and rings received one month after purchase. day after picking up my vehicle, my check engine light turned on. dealership told me that the camshaft intake solenoid was throwing a code and needed to be replaced but it had nothing to do with where they working, i paid out of pocket. next day, check engine light came back on however, this time the traction control light came on as well and the engine power reduced warning came on the display screen and i couldn't drive over 20 mph the whole way home (twenty miles) with my two small children with me mind you. replaced the camshaft intake solenoid only to not fix the issue so we also replaced the camshaft position sensor to find that didn't help at all. ended up having to have my vehicle towed back to dealership (40 miles) as it was undriveable. dealership said that the fuel rail pressure sensor needed to be replaced as the vehicle was dumping fuel into the cylinders. had the dealership fix the issue and i paid them for parts and lanor, all while dealership denying fault. picked it up after being "fixed", yet again, next day check engine light cones on again! dealership looked at again and told me that the camshaft exhaust solenoid, replaced that and my check engine light popped on again days later but my vehicle also stalled out on me while pulling out of a parking lot and again while stopped in the middle of a two lane highway with kids in the car. i then reached out to gm personally and they were extremely rude and denied fault. one month later, had to replace my exhaust manifold as it was cracked and releasing exhaust fumes into the cab with me and my children getting headaches while driving. replaced upstream o2 sensor.. not even one week after this was fixed, jan 2018 my check engine light is back on again with a p0420 code for the cat converter....
12 jan 18 i was driving my equinox on the highway when the stability light, check engine light and a message "reduced power" came on. the next day i took it to the dealer and they said the rear main seal failed and damaged to the engine of a tune of $5500 to $6000 (new engine requires). he stated it was caused by the extreme cold weather we are having. i am calling gm tomorrow because a vehicle with 74500 miles should not have this issue.
During a bitter cold evening, the pvc orifice froze and pressure built up within the engine and forced the rear main seal to be pushed out, resulting in complete oil loss. this happened when the temperature was below 15 degrees f. this is a well know issue with the model but the gm dealership saws that my vin is not one included with the recall. it does have the same engine as the recall, a 2.4l ecotec.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine seized. the vehicle was then towed to burke motor group (227 bayberry dr, cape may court house, nj) where it was diagnosed that the engine assembly needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 111,000.
