While driving in heavy rain on the highway at 55 mph the wipers suddenly jerked left and stopped working. one wiper was off the driver side of the windshield and the other was stopped in front of my face. very dangerous because not only was there rain pouring down, there was a wiper right in front of me blocking my view. i was able to get off the road and move the wipers to their normal off position but they no longer functioned. a new wiper transmission was required. the us recall for 2013 only needs to be expanded to match the recall in canada. definitely a huge safety issue!
The windshield wipers failed. i took the car to a chevy dealership who immediately identified the problem as arising from a key part in the wipers being made of plastic instead of the previously used metal and this wearing out. he said this was a common problem and that a recall was likely but that chevy was dragging their feed. i understand they have issued the recall in canada. the wipers failed without warning during a major rain storm, creating a very real safety hazard as i drove with young children in the car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving in the rain, the windshield wipers stopped working. the contact stated that the failure recurred three other times. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
Let me start off by saying that i am one of many having the same trouble with my 2010 chevy equinox. on jan. 21, 2015 i was hit by a young driver totaling my 2002 s10 crew cab. i feel this truck saved my life. in need of a safe vehicle i found myself at bowman chevrolet purchasing a certified 2010 chevy equinox with less than 41000 miles. at that time i received 24 months of oil changes/routine maintenance plus road side assistance and bumper to bumper for 12months. this vehicle seemed great till my first oil change and maintenance. in less than 3 months i took it in for service they said it couldn't be serviced. i apparently bought a canadian vehicle. called bowman about the issue and was told to bring it back to them ( over an hr from home) at this time i mentioned a few things i felt were issues (my car would run on after shut off, would roll backwards in drive and shifting would pause between gears). about a month later i got my car back, new dashboard with a few scratches and a good chip in the windshield. wasn't happy but they said all was good. until the next time i had to take it in, still having run ons when i shut off the car and shifting problems along with a few minor things( i was told was not covered but should have been still under what i was promised by the 12 months bumper to bumper) over the next 21 months of my warranties i continued to have many issues with my car. never fully fixed each time i took it in and being told many times they wont do the recalls because its on a canadian car not my now american car. on july 13, 2017 driving on 96 in construction and rush hr traffic with my grandson the transmission was losing gears at one point the car stopped abruptly. we barely made it home! drove it to dealer next morning only had 1st gear. apparently this is a known problem. help us all!
As we were driving on a city street in a torrential rain storm, my windshield wipers suddenly stopped working. i pulled over to a side road, turned the car off and back on, and they still did not work. i pushed the windshield wiper lever and they would not move. i was on vacation at the time and luckily found a chevrolet dealership nearby. they diagnosed the condition almost immediately as corrosion to the front wiper transmission. the service advisor said it was easy to diagnose because they have seen this issue happen on many chevrolet equinox cars. he looked up recall information and this exact problem is currently recalled only on a 2013 chevrolet equinox (chevrolet recall reference #25302). since i have a 2010 equinox, i had to pay for this repair out of pocket for $240.80. the dealership said i would have a good case trying to get reimbursed for this, since it is an exact problem he has seen many times and is currently on a recall for a different year equinox. i just called chevrolet's recall department, and they said there is nothing they can do, because they can only approve reimbursement for active recalls, which is based on the vehicle's vin number. if and when a recall for a 2010 equinox happens, then i would be eligible for reimbursement. i am filling out this report, because you need to know this is the exact same problem that is currently recalled on a 2013 chevy equinox, and deserves to be looked into for the 2010 equinox as well.
Bushings for wiper assembly went bad. they went out when driving on a rural road. seems like a part like that would last longer than 7 years. now i'm finding that you can't buy the bushings. only buy the whole assembly.
Driving to work in rainstorm with wipers on high and wipers stopped dead. fuse to wipers were good. ended up wiper transmission was wiped. very dangerous for this to happen. when driving. could have been catastrophic.
Windshield wipers snapped and stuck toward the driver side of the vehicle, touching the driver side door, while i was driving in the rain- the windshield wipers in use. this created a startling visual barrier and posed a safety risk. after pulling over and placing the windshield wipers in the correct position they no longer worked.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving 55 mph in the rain, the wipers failed without warning. the local dealer (dan perkins subaru located at 1 boston post rd, milford, connecticut) was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to bring the vehicle in to be diagnosed. the contact scheduled an appointment. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that her vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v582000 (visibility). the contact was informed to call nhtsa to have her vin added to the recall. the failure mileage was 107,000.
On may 14, 2017 while driving in a rain storm on 287 in nj, my windshield wipers suddenly stopped on the windshield. i could see absolutely nothing as it was pouring rain. luckily i was able to quickly pull over. i had 4 other people in the car with me. when i finally returned home ( i had to wait out the storm), i took the car to get serviced as i could not drive it without properly working windshield wipers. the windshield wiper transmission had died . this exact issue on the 2010 equinox has been recalled in canada but not the us.
The transmission linkage failed while driving in rain on the freeway forcing the driver to lose visibility immediately and make an emergency stop on the shoulder. my understand is that there's a tsb for the problem but it's not classified as a recall due to not being a safety issue(???).
Windshield wiper motor/linkage assembly became disengaged after just under two minutes of usage on high while driving in a torrential downpour. mechanic had trouble finding a replacement because "all of the replacements were 'reserved' for dealerships.. which he took to mean, this is not an isolated problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving during inclement weather, the windshield wipers failed to function. the contact had a total loss of visibility. the manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from a recall and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the contact was uncertain if the vehicle would be repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
My heat and defogger suddenly stopped working while car was in motion.
I have to replace the wiper transmission for the 3rd time since i have owned the vehicle. i just purchased it at the end of 2012. the first time i was driving in a rainstorm, the second time it was the middle of winter and was snowing, and now today. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the defrost system in the vehicle failed to operate as intended. the dealer diagnosed that the software in the center instrument panel needed to be reprogrammed. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v489000 (visibility). the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 102,800.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while the vehicle was turned off, the contact heard an abnormal knocking noise coming from the dashboard. once the ignition was turned on, the noise went away and the defrost/defogger system became inoperable. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 09v489000 (visibility). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 102,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving unknown speeds, the defroster failed to blow out air. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was 61,000.
While driving on a city street, the ball joint in the windshield wiper module became disconnected during operation. this made it nearly impossible to see where i was driving, and i almost crashed into another vehicle before i could pull off the road. *tr
I was driving down busy highway in snow storm, my wipers stopped working as i was driving. i had my son in the car. big safety issue. i googled this problem on line. found several people had same problem with their chevrolet equinox and no safety recall. this is definetly a safety issue. we could have gotten in a car accident with snow coming down and no wipers. my car has been in shop for 4 days now.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the instrument panel, defroster, and heat malfunctioned intermittently on multiple occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the control panel needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 144,450.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving at any speed, the air conditioner remained in use. the issue caused the heater and defroster not to work, which caused a visibility issue while driving. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic who diagnosed that the control panel had to be replaced. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v489000 (visibility). the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 144,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the defrost failed without warning. in november of 2016, the defrost failed intermittenly. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (john jones salem, 1450 in-60, salem, in, 47167, 812-883-3081) where it was diagnosed that the instrument panel software needed to be replaced, and that there was no recall at the time. due to the repair cost, the vehicle was not repaired. in january of 2017, the contact received the notification for nhtsa campaign number: 09v489000 (visibilty). the same local dealer was contacted and scheduled an appointment. upon arrival at the dealer, the contact was informed that even though there was a recall for the existing failure and a letter was receieved, the vin was not included in the recall. the manufacturer stated that they were not sure why she received the recall letter, and confirmed that the vin was not included in the recall. the manufacturer would not assist and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the defroster for the windshield failed to function. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, however the vehicle was not diagnosed. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v489000 (visibility). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
Takata recall. i was driving on the freeway in pouring rain and the i turned the wipers to go faster as the rain came down harder while driving at least 40mph on the freeway. at this time i had to hurry and try to get to a safe spot which was hard to get to as the visibility was very hard to see.
On 8/20/2016 i was driving on a busy interstate in pouring rain with my windshield wipers on high when the wipers went left and stopped. this left me in a very dangerous situation. i pulled onto the shoulder to wait for the rain to let up so i could re-position the wipers. i tried to use them again but they still did not work. i pulled back on to the interstate, parked under an overpass, and called for someone to bring a replacement fuse. this did not work either. based on research into this issue, it appears the wiper transmission failed. from the number of complaints i found, this seems to be a well known issue. without a doubt, it is a critical safety issue! this issue should be turned into a recall as soon as possible.
While driving on the freeway in hard rainstorm, the windshield wipers became inoperable. this caused a near complete loss of forward vision. was able to guide vehicle to side of the road. rain was such that only guidance by white/yellow stripes was possible; any object forward of car could not be seen through rain on windshield. wipers were movable by hand, and motor was audibly operational; a linkage internal to the car had failed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving 40 mph, the transmission failed. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the contact also stated that there was excessive oil consumption with no safety defect. the contact stated that there was an abnormal grinding noise emitted from the engine. the contact also stated that the air conditioning unit and windshield defroster failed to operate as intended. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact was informed that the air conditioning evaporator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
Number one excessive oil started at about 55,000 miles. number two excessive engine noise from timing chain and cam seizures. number three transmission failure 52,000 miles. number 4 wiper transmission failure at approximately 48000 miles number 5 check engine light on due to faulty cam actuators.
On 6-5-2016 while traveling on the pa turnpike during a rain storm the vehicles wipers were at first operating properly. vehicle was traveling in the right lane in a several mile construction zone with no berm and concrete barriers on both sides, rain suddenly picked up to a torrential level. when wipers were turned up to maximum speed the drivers side wiper immediately went beyond the window roof pillar and both wipers froze in place. driver found it impossible to see out the front window or accurately determine where he was on the road other than to guess by distance from the left barrier. traffic was very heavy with trailer trucks passing on left extremely close. emergency flashers were activated and speed dropped to a crawl with fear of a chain reaction accident from rear. passenger leaned out right side window and gave guidance to driver as to distance from right side barrier and directional adjustments until vehicle finally reached an emergency pull off area. vehicle was parked until rain subsided to the point that visibility became good enough to safely continue at a slower but safe highway speed. this will be the last gm vehicle i will ever own . only a miracle prevented this from becoming a multiple fatality multiple vehicle accident. this was a well maintained vehicle with only 64.000 miles. only 2 days earlier on the outbound leg of this same journey the coil on the #3 cylinder failed on i80 in rural pa. vehicle had to be nursed along on 3 cylinders for approx. 60 miles until a chevrolet dealer could be reached who thankfully was able to diagnose and fix the problem. never previously have i encountered a road trip problem with any other vehicle i ever owned. we feel extremely blessed to have survived this terrifying experience.
The windshield wiper transmission failed causing both wipers to stop while driving during a rainstorm, nearly causing a crash. this is the same part being recalled on 2013 models, and the dealer would assume no responsibility
Windshield takes up to half an hour to defrost when first started in cold weather. i have to manually wipe off the inside windshield a few times so that i can drive to work. windshield will fog up while driving in certain conditions, such as rain, especially if there is more than one person in the vehicle, and it will take too long to defog, limiting visibility. when the heat is on for long periods, the radio overheats and stops working properly. heat continues to come out of the vents even when it is turned off. this has been an ongoing problem since i purchased the vehicle on may 21, 2016.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 60 mph, the windshield wipers became inoperable without warning. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wiper transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 73,000. updated 07/14/16*lj

Wipers stopped working, but can still hear wiper motor. after 10 minutes i found many people have to same problem. gm needs to recall these vehicles. too many problem on gm vehicles have been burdened upon the owners. electrical, powertrain, wipers, transmissions, etc... i have had to lay out over $5000 in the past 3 years alone due to very poor quality and design of gm transmissions on one chevrolet and over 130 hours of diagnosing electrical problems on another chevrolet. i have owned 17 chevrolets and pontiacs over the past 47 years (1963 -2010) and never had problems with any of them like this until the last 13 years. no wonder gm killed of oldsmobile and pontiac (bad mistake). if gm cared for their customers and the quality of the product they produced they would not have lost so much business to ford and toyota .

The vehicle had been operating in heavy raid for four (4) hours. at approximately 6:00 pm cst in a construction zone on i-90 the wipers canted off of the driver's side of the windshield resting on the driver side view mirror. the wipers could only be manually moved back to the windshield. a check of the fuse showed it to be intact. wiper motor assembly can be heard to 'hum' when wipers are engaged, but wipers do not move. *tr
Defrost not working and instrument panel fades or completely goes out... i went to my local heritage chevrolet dealer in chester va. 23831.. i was told there was not a recall on my vehicle... but they would hook it up and do a test to determine the problem... at the cost of $170.00.. i told them my vehicle was on the recall for the visibility #09v489000 software instrument panel/ fmvss 103 & 101.. i told them forget it i should not have to pay for a recall and left.... *tr

I previously filed a complaint with nhtsa on 7/10/16 concerning this windshield wiper motor problem. wipers completely stopped working during torrential rain on i-95 @ 5pm during rush hour traffic when checking for recalls on this vehicle i see a recall #16v582000 date 8/14/2016. this is the exact problem i had but the recall is only for 2013 equinox. i went to chevy dealer for repair shortly after the incident and this problem is precisely what he determined with my car. i am hopeful that this complaint will be resubmitted to include the 2013 model equinox. please refer to my previous complaint form filed with you on 7/10/14 reference #i0609595 . please contact me at the provided sources if you need further information.
While driving on interstate 290 (ny), a heavy rainfall started. driver put wipers to high speed and wipers stopped functioning. wipers were at the end of the wipe sweep. driver was able, due to the prior use of "rain-x" to see to exit the road. wipers did not regain functionality, after vehicle was stopped and wipers were attempted to be used again. driver is concerned about the safety of this vehicle. *tr
While driving my windows became fogged. i turned on my defroster and the rear worked, however the front windshield would not clear. upon further inspection i realized no air was coming out of the front dash vents. when i bought the car 3 months ago it worked. the heat and ac work but the vents don't change. *tr
Passenger side, top blend door actuator stuck at cooling position preventing the defrost to work. i could not see and almost had a wreck. estimated repair cost is $600 as you have to take the whole dash apart to get to the actuator. i think this part should be recalled as there are thousands of defective gmc equinox and terrain actuator issues on the web. if you can see out the window as the defrost is stuck on cool you could have a wreck. this is a safety issue. *tr
Good afternoon. i purchased a 2010 chevy equinox on january 7th, 2014. the defroster and the vents are not working. the defroster delays or does not come on at all. i researched recalls on the chevy equinox and found that my problems are the same problems that fall under the 09298 recall which states: "brief description of defect mfg. campaign no. 090298 ? computer module/fmvss 101 & 103. dom: 2/09-11/09. vehicles fail to meet fmvss 101 and fmvss 103. software in center instrument panel can cause heating, air conditioning, defrost, and radio controls, as well as panel illumination to become inoperative. driving without functioning defrost system can decrease visibility and could result in crash without warning. correct by replacing computer module in center instrument panel" my vin was not included in that recall, but it is the exact problem i am having. the computer module is bad. would you happen to know if there is a way to get this car fixed under the warranty? i believe my vin should be included, but no one at chevrolet will help me without charging me a huge amount of money. i wouldn't mind if the vents weren't working, but the defroster needs to work and it isn't a wear and tear issue. i just thought i would reach out to you to see if you might have a better solution then the run around i am getting from gm. if you could be contact me, i would really appreciate it! i hope you have a good day! While driving the vehicle the wipers stopped functioning making it dangerous to drive. the center console display, radio and heater controls, went off and stopped functioning. this has happened several times and is a dangerous situation. i have had it looked at by the dealer and they tell me nothing is wrong. they also tell me there is no recall on any equinox for these issues even after i recommended them to look at your site. they told me to "stop looking at the internet for information because it is no good and that people do nothing but complain on the internet." i called the gm customer service center to explain that to them and they recommended me to file a complaint with nhtsa to make it known that my car is having the same issue as the recalled cars to possibly get it added to the recall. i am not only doing this because they recommended me to, but because my family is at a safety risk driving this vehicle and gm doesn't seem to care. they need to be held accountable for this issue since there are many people out there having the same issue that are in the same boat as i am without being covered by the recall. *tr
