We have classified the 154 complaints from 2010 Chevrolet Equinox about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
When i purchased this vehicle, i was not told that the engine was replaced. i have replaced the exhaust manifold 2 times. the dealer told me that there is metal fragments in my oil. that i need a new engine.
In motion vehicle would not get out of second gear forward and reverse, technician states wave plate broken this was replaced under warrant in 2014
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while the contact's daughter was driving 45 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate and failed to exceed 25 mph. in addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the driver was able to park on the side of the road and had the vehicle towed to ralph sellers chevrolet (located at 15015 florida blvd, baton rouge, la 70819, (225) 238-1672). the dealer diagnosed that an unknown transmission component needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired, but continued to experience the failure. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with needing the transmission replaced. the vehicle repair lasted one day. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 27,000. *dt*jb
My car just suddenly lost speed, wouldn't shift and was stuck at a stop, was told the transmission would need replacing because the solenoids were stuck. he also said this usually happens in most gm engines.
Was driving with daughter in the car. stopped at a stop sign and went to go into oncoming traffic in the middle of the city when it stopped. cars had to go around me and i was stranded in the middle of the road. this could have caused a major accident. had a friend tow it home and found out that the transmission needs completely rebuilt. when calling around to find replacement transmissions, because the car is so specific and there are so many transmission issues with this make and model, there are only 2 possible transmissions in an entire span of 3 states. this is making it also nearly impossible to replace as well as affordable.
My 2010 chevy equinox was running fine and out of the sudden, it stopped and went off while i was driving. it refused to start again. i have recently done an oil change and the was no warning on the dashboard to indicate any problem. i bought this car about 6 months and this took place. this car was well maintained, oil changes and other maintenance were done on time. i took it to a shop and while the mechanics were trying to make it start, it will not start. they (mechanics) called the dealer and someone from the dealership said that the problem was covered under manufacturer warranty so i should take the car to them for their technicians to do a test. after the test they said it was a low engine knock and i will have to get another engine by myself because the manufacturer doesn't cover it. don't know who to believe now. my car that i just bought is down and i'm stuck in this terrible situation.
'oil consumption and driveability , vehicle using more than one quart of oil every 400 miles or less, was at busy intersection in city on major city street and car froze up, would not accelerate and almost caused another vehicle to hit me from behind. turned off vehicle, then turned key and it started long enough to drive into nearest parking lot. had to press gas peddle all the way down and vehicle would not reverse at at. tow truck was called and towed to local chevrolet dealership. it was diagnosed with oil consumption problems due to the 2010 engine that it was built with. was advised to keep watch on oil until decide how to fix engine.
While driving, vehicle failed to accelerate and would not shift into next gear, then seemed to jump into higher gear. this caused me to almost be hit by motor vehicle behind me. second time, i was turning into busy intersection and car completely stalled, turned off key and restarted car and it would not drive over 20 miles an hour so pulled into parking lot and wheel was very hard to control. car would not go into reverse. was left stranded on side of road and had vehicle towed to chevy. has oil consumption issues but recently purchased car and passed date for recalls and warranty repair. gm needs to offer all previous expired to people such as myself who purchase used vehicles that were never corrected during recall times.also my vin was not listed in recall but has the exact issues. this was confirmed by gm.
I took my equinox to the garage started out as an oil consumption issue then turned into the whole motor getting rebuilt.
This car burns oil fast and i learned the hard way. 2 years after buying the car all the pistons in the engine bent due to lack of oil. when the car was getting fixed the mechanic said it was bone dry and i had just had an oil change 2 months prior. $3,200 later the car was fixed, but it still had issues shifting. in colder weather the car felt like it would barely move. i had no real mechanical issues until a year later. i had driven it 45 miles and stopped at a gas station, when i went to turn the car back on all of the emergency lights came on as well as the 'stabilitrak' light and the car wouldn't move. the only way i could get it to move was by turning the traction off, and was thankfully able to drive it home. i got it into the gm dealership and they said the stability track and the crankshaft needed replaced. my abs light was still failing and i'm total it was another $1,400 of work. now the engine seems to be making a cranking noise. i'm tired of wasting money on this piece of junk!!!!!
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate and came to a complete stop. the contact depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle failed to move. an independent mechanic was contacted to assist with repairing the vehicle onsite. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 152,000.
Vehicle was stopped at intersection. vehicle would not move after using accelerator, and the engine continued to run at higher rpm. i was able to move after shutting off and restarting the vehicle. during the same drive i also had trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd gear with high rpm before a moderately hard shift while accelerating after a stop. amber check engine, brake, and abm lights all lit. vehicle is currently with mechanic for diagnosis and repair.
Transmission is bad. when i try to accelerate it doesn't go anywhere and its skipping gears and bucking prior to it finally no longer driveable
Transmission failure at 66,000 miles while vehicle in motion.
The vehicle transmission gets stuck and doesn't always shift from first to second gear. this results in being unable to accelerate past 20-30 mph upon takeoff which is scary and dangerous on the highway. my mechanic shop has informed me that the automatic transmission control module (tcm) needs replacing. on 10/14/2016 there was a recall notice for the tcm on several vehicles including the 2010-2013 chevrolet equinox.gm's recall numbers for this are 50490 and 50491.
While driving the car on the highway, it will accelerate really high then it will shift and go back down but it's doing it almost all the time know. it showed no error codes when taken in and transmission fluid is good.
Wipers transmission stopped working. transmission revving high before shifting. motor ticking.
Driving on state highway when vehicle started acting like it would die. i was almost home and when i parked it found it had almost no oil in vehicle after checking it before traveling home. oil light did not come on. mechanic says frozen pcv valve in rear crankshaft; it could have blown and left me stranded or in accident; mechanic said there was a recall but my particular vin wasn't included
I have a 2010 chevrolet equinox mileage 078815 ,yesterday while out running errands and had stopped at several locations in town .i had no warning at last stop .i got back in suv and it started up ok and got ready to back out of parked spot shifted to reverse car would not move backward or forward but gear shift moved to all location but suv would not . had to get it towed home
I put the car in gear, i press the gas pedal and the rpms rev up but my car does not move
Car just shuts off when on free way doing 70 or at stop light then message center says stability track control then it may sit for 5 min and then restart or may require a jump start put in new battery and had alternator tested very unsafe automobile
Sabilitrak, powertrain, throttle came on again paid $457.90 1/25/2016. ac & heating unit not working clicking sound replaced 8/26/2015, key is stuck in ignition, no lights, car not mobile (now).
This suv has had a new transmission, motor and now it has been just cuts out and no power and on the message center says stability track light we have put a new battery and brought it to two different gm certified car garages and no one knows what to do car is unsafe when it just decides to randomly stall out and has no power until after it sits for about 5 min it may restart or may need a jump start very scary situation it can happen when driving on freeway or in town or even in line a drive thru line in park you never know this has happened about 6-8 times and there is no warning of when it will happen nor any kind of pattern very scary and unsafe
Transmission failure of the 3,5,r wave plate. common issue with this year make and model, transmission failed without warning while wife was heading to work, broke down in busy intersection. gm will not recognize the common problem
The vehicle has had hard shifting ever since i got it and the other day in town it was not shifting right at all. then all of a sudden i'm stuck in second gear. no reverse, couldn't manually shift i'm just stuck in second. i could put the car in park so i stop at a grocery store to check my transmission fluid and there was no dipstick what the heck.so i put my flashers on and drive in second gear to my wifes grandmothers and park it. when i get home i research and i've come up with a wave plate causing my problem.
I replaced the timing chain in june at my mechanic...i did not go to a dealer because i could not afford the $2000 they were asking to fix it. it is now the beginning of september and i am replacing the timing chain again. why am i reading this website and seeing thousands of complaints regarding the equinox timing chain and nothing has been done by gm. they should receive consequences for a faulty product. i called them to ask why there was not a recall when thousands of people are complaining of the same issue. they were very rude and would not offer any assistance.
Was driving down a highway and had to pull over for a police officer to pass by, went to accelerate and was stuck in 2nd gear. later found that only 1st and 2nd gear worked and had no reverse. was told that i would need a complete rebuild of the transmission.
1. transmission went out. 2. engine consumes all oil within 3,000 miles.
Drivtng 45 mile hr shouder made noise stopped at traffic would not move called aaa cars were driving around me ramp truck towed car to best transmission shop call gm said no warranty only has 75,000 miles
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated when the accelerator pedal was depressed and the engine would rev. in addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. new holland auto group (508 w main st, new holland, pa 17557, (877) 217-8936) was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 137,000.
Driving down road to set of lights stopped at red green light to proceed did not move, cars behind me almost crashed into me in drive moved slowly to curb side it just wont move city st on highway 55 miles hr prior heard a clunk transmission case 8-4377215669
While driving, the car would not accelerate, pulled onto a street and put the car into park. attempted again and the car slowly drove. another incident, my son was driving and he said it just "wouldn't drive", luckily he was near a relatives house and pulled into the drive. he attempted to move the car and put it into reverse and it would not go into reverse. the car is now at a chevy dealer. now this may not be deemed a "safety issue", but what is the issue, the car only has 65,000 and we are being told by chevy that the car needs a new transmission. at what point can a non-safety issue be deemed a recall. apparently there is a bulletin regarding the chevy equinox 2010, many many complaints, and chevy will not repair them. what can be done?
My transmission started shifting hard last week & i took it into the dealership to be told my transmission is going out. the dealership informed me i can drive it until that happens but i may loose power & the vehicle may stall or completely die while i'm driving. i was told if that happens to re-start the vehicle and i should be able to take off again. this is scary to say the least & i've found several hundred other consumers are reporting the same issues. many of them have had faulty transmissions replaced but are experiencing re-occurring failure due to what's believed to be defective parts being used by chevy/gm. several consumers didn't have any indication the transmissions were failing & it did happen while they were driving putting them @ risk & creating dangerous situations. i was quoted $4560 for this repair but with no guarantee a new transmission will not go out the same way this one is. the problems i've had with this vehicle have all made me afraid to drive it b/c i don't feel safe but this is by far the most worrisome. can you please look into this & help us? we really need to know if the "new transmissions" will be a fix for this problem. gm seems to be aware of this issue but remarks the government has to issue recalls. thank you!
Transmission needs to be replaced at 109,000 miles. no warning, and car has been well maintained.
The automatic transmission completely stopped working while the vehicle was in motion. a texas certified repair shop diagnosed the issue and concluded that the automatic transmission needed to be entirely replaced at a cost of $3,000.
My car stopped in the middle of the highway and i had to sit there for a a little while before it started back. the car started back. i drove the car a little over a 1/.2 of mile and it stopped again. i stopped and and sat and cranked it back up. i made it to the repair shop to be told my transmission had failed. the car only has 116,000 miles on it. i have had to replace 2 air compressors on the car. the car has also did an automatic shutdown on me. i have had to tow this car 4 times. i think the 2010 equinox is a faulty car and is unsafe for children and families to be riding around in. the last accident happen on a busy intersection with me and my husband we could have been hurt with all the major traffic coming in our directions.
Oil consumption. i have to put oil in it every two week because oil is empty. it does not leak and the vehicle is part of a class action lawsuit 4 oil consumption issues. i called chevrolet they only want to cover half the parts to repair which will cost me an additional $3,000. i have already replaced the timing chain at $1,800 and the transmission at another $3,700.
When i was driving on a city street headed to the highway lost gears with no warning my car would not go into any gears.

Beginning around 30,000 miles i began experiencing a clunking sound and jerking when the transmission would shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. i took it into the dealership multiple times and was told they could not duplicate the problem. i was told that it was because i was always driving in eco mode. even out of eco mode i still experienced the clunk/jerk. once the warranty ran out i was unable to take it in and pay the diagnostic fee to be told nothing was wrong. recently i noticed more slipping especially when accelerating to enter traffic on busy interstate causing hesitation and danger when trying to merge at high speeds. after getting off the highway and crawling home, i parked the vehicle without incident. after parking upon trying to shift into gear it refused to shift at all. towed to local mechanic and was told the transmission was out, had towed to gm dealership. battling gm now trying to get assistance with replacement since this is a common issue and it was acting up before warranty expired. gm should be ashamed for not fixing this common problem
I have a 2010 chevrolet equinox and on july 21st, 2017 it would not go into reverse. after doing some research online i've seen that many others have had the same problem that i have been experiencing. no 3rd gear/no reverse. it says it has a wave plate that often breaks and shoots shattered pieces into the transmission, all without any warning or suspicion that anything could be wrong. i called the finance company which then l then led me to gm customer service telling me there were no recalls or information about anything. it is now october 3rd, 2017 and my car has been sitting in the same parking space (cannot reverse to get out of parking spot) with a full tank of gas. i urge anyone who experiences any problem to report it. i need help and i need it asap!!!
The transmission slips out of gear if the car does not reach 35 mph within the first two stops the car makes. when initially putting the car in drive, the car rocks back and forth while shifting into gear.

We have a 2010 chevrolet equinox with 66000 original miles on it and the transmission has failed. we were coming home from a short road trip and the car started to act up. we couldn't go over 25 miles an hour as we only had 2nd gear. we had no reverse or other gears. we prayed to could limp it home and call the tow truck to come and get it. we had to have it towed to the dealer and had to replace the transmission which costs us $4500 and the transmission was not repairable.
Let me start off by saying that i am one of many having the same trouble with my 2010 chevy equinox. on jan. 21, 2015 i was hit by a young driver totaling my 2002 s10 crew cab. i feel this truck saved my life. in need of a safe vehicle i found myself at bowman chevrolet purchasing a certified 2010 chevy equinox with less than 41000 miles. at that time i received 24 months of oil changes/routine maintenance plus road side assistance and bumper to bumper for 12months. this vehicle seemed great till my first oil change and maintenance. in less than 3 months i took it in for service they said it couldn't be serviced. i apparently bought a canadian vehicle. called bowman about the issue and was told to bring it back to them ( over an hr from home) at this time i mentioned a few things i felt were issues (my car would run on after shut off, would roll backwards in drive and shifting would pause between gears). about a month later i got my car back, new dashboard with a few scratches and a good chip in the windshield. wasn't happy but they said all was good. until the next time i had to take it in, still having run ons when i shut off the car and shifting problems along with a few minor things( i was told was not covered but should have been still under what i was promised by the 12 months bumper to bumper) over the next 21 months of my warranties i continued to have many issues with my car. never fully fixed each time i took it in and being told many times they wont do the recalls because its on a canadian car not my now american car. on july 13, 2017 driving on 96 in construction and rush hr traffic with my grandson the transmission was losing gears at one point the car stopped abruptly. we barely made it home! drove it to dealer next morning only had 1st gear. apparently this is a known problem. help us all!
