Problems with 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 102 098 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Fuel pump/sender assembly leak - this issue is a recall issue in several states, including arkansas, but not missouri or kansas. *tr

After exiting the vehicle, the smell of raw gasoline was noticed. on february 4, 2013, while having new tires installed, a local service center notified us that gas was leaking from the top of the gas tank. *tr

We took our 2007 chevy cobalt into our chevy dealership here in roseville,ca to get our recalled fuel sensor replaced. we were then notified that our fuel tank needed to be replaced due to a crack in it, and that we are now looking at an $800+ repair for a new fuel tank. this car has never been in an accident or anything, so i know it did not crack from that. after doing a little bit of research i have found that a number of people are being affected by a) the sensor failure, outside of "qualified" states, and are not being addressed, and b) a number are getting the same call from dealerships about their whole fuel tank needing to be replaced due to this cracking. to me it seems that chevy probably used the same materials on the fuel tank as they did this sensor that needs replacing due to "heat". now along with the sensors cracking, the tanks are doing the same only they are not covering them in a recall. i find it hard to believe that these complaints are just coincidence and that i can find a handful of complaints online about the same thing, who knows how many people have been affected by this issue and are now set back over $1000 for the repair. http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2007/chevrolet/cobalt/fuel+system. *tr

Car smells like gas when not being driven and car lost gas mileage. *tr

My car is involved in safety recall 12190 to replace the fuel pump module due to fuel leaks. i had the fuel pump replaced because of this leak but gm won't reimburse me, despite the fact that there have been several recalls on the fuel pump systems in cobalts. the auto shop also confirms the problem is that which my personal recall was designed for. *tr

Cobalt began noticeably loosing fuel and appeared to be losing power when gas pedal was pushed. shortly thereafter the check engine light came on. within a few days every time the car was driven the loss of power while driving progressively got worse. drove the car to a "certified gm mechanic at the local chevy dealership" for a diagnostic check who stated the car needed a new motor; ($ 3000.00). had to have the vehicle towed from the "certified chevy repair shop" to a different mechanic because it now would not even start, which new (honest) mechanic said there is a major problem with the fuel pump/fuel propulsion system. consequently while doing some research online we are now finding many complaints similar to ours on this make and model but for some reason due to our geological location our vehicles are not under the 2009 recall for fuel/propulsion issues? is appears obvious that it is a manufacturing issue that should cover all 2007 chevy cobalts not just some in a few select locations. *tr

I received a recall notice for the fuel pump which indicated that the fuel pump module may crack and cause a fuel leak. as the technician was in the process of removing the gas tank to address the fuel pump recall issue, he identified a fuel leak at the filler neck on or to the gas tank. in the end, i had to replace the gas tank, but the fuel pump recall did not cover the cost. i am reporting this because i believe this could be a safety hazard due to a fuel leak. i did not find a recall for this issue. *tr

There was the smell of gas in the car. when i took it in. the repair shop said that the top of the fuel was leaking and that it had been recalled on other models but not mine. further it did not appear to be an ordinary wear and tear problem. the part is e3726m fp module assembly. *tr

Strong gas smell inside car and under car can see a small amount of fuel coming out of the top of the gas tank. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that there was an overpowering odor of gasoline fuel from the inside and outside of the vehicle. the contact located a recall for the failure under nhtsa campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump) and called the manufacturer. the manufacturer then advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 133,000.

We started to smell gasoline everytime we walked by or got into the car. about a week later friends would say your car smells of gasoline. we took car to a local gm dealership asked if a problem or recall existed on the 2007 cobalt. we where told that no problem or recall existed at that time. two gm employees walked around the car with us and we figured the gas to be leaking near the fuel tank. finances where an issue at that time , as payments are still owed on the car, finally in february of 2013 leak seemed to be worse. took car to a local garage and paid $ 427.58 to replace the entire fuel pump assembly for a pinhole / small crack in a fuel line attached to the fuel pump. driving the car in this condition was very stressful, thinking of a fire or explosion. just seeking a refund on this issue, thanks. *tr

The plastic supply and return port on the modular reservoir assembly is cracked. fuel is leaking from the area. fuel can be observed dripping onto the ground. i am extremely worried about a fire. i have contacted a dealership about the issue and they have said my vin is not included in the recall and the repair will be close to $700. this appears to be a common problem with this model year and make of vehicle as i searched online and there were thousands of similar issues that are "outside" of the affected area. *tr

While removing a cracked fuel tank to replace it with a new one, the supply port of the fuel pump assemble cracked and broke. this happened without much force at all, and is certainly not normal for this type of service. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that while entering the vehicle, a strong gasoline fuel smell could be noticed inside the cabin. the vehicle was driven to the dealer where it was confirmed that the fuel pump failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the issue and notified the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). the failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was 73,000.

A week ago we noticed a strong gas odor coming from the car when parked.this morning, i started to car to let it warm up and noticed gas leaking out of the fuel tank. so i took the car to a friends auto repair shop this morning to find out that there's a recall for the exact same problem. recall #09226b my friend suggested i take the car to the local dealer (wagner gmc) in belleville, il. so i drove to the dealer with the recall in hand only to be told that this recall only applied to vehicles made in fl, ca, az, nv & tx. so as i stood in the dealers repair shop with gas dripping out of the tank, i was told the repair would cost me $572.00. i think this is a horrible mistake on gm's behalf that could have deadly consequences. i only feel fortunate that my family doesn't smoke. i hate to think what would have happened if our car would have came into contact with an ignition source. i also call the gm hotline to inquire about the recall, only to be told the same thing. i expressed my concern that my car is experiencing the same "conditions" listed in their recall notice, regardless of where it was made. the dealer then called me back to inform me that their gm rep said they would cover 50% of the repair cost. so the why i see it is that's a 50% admission of guilt?? i'm just curious to see if there's been any other complaints about this same problem. it really has the potential to be a deadly situation. *tr

Strong fuel smell. smells like it might be near the rear of the car. worried about possible fire. *tr

Check engine light came on. mechanic diagnosed it with an fuel leak. strong odor of gasoline in the car. fuel tank coming apart where the fill tube enters the tank. *tr

My 2007 chevy cobalt started smelling very strongly of gas fumes- so much so that i was afraid to start it in the garage & began parking it outside. i then noticed puddles on the ground and my gas mileage dropped drastically from my average 30-32 highway mpg to about 18-19 mpg. i am currently overseas on military orders in germany. i had to wait for an appointment and got the car checked out and was told it has a major gas leak and is not safe to drive. it has a crack in the fuel pump and needs to be replaced. my complaint is that the recall on this defective fuel pump is limited to "warm weather states." a defective part is a safety concern that knows no geographical boundaries. i have been accumulating a lot of debt from having to have a rental car, which i am driving for safety reasons, until i can get an answer as to whether gm will replace my defective fuel pump. i should not bear the burden of the cost in addition to the inconvenience due to a known & recalled defective part based on my geographical location. *tr

I started to smell a strong odor of gas and called to schedule an appointment with a local dealer. they discovered a fuel leak possibly from a crack in the fuel pump. unfortunately, my car isn't covered in the recall because i don't live in one of the "affected" states. smell is so bad we don't drive the car with our kids in it anymore - causes headaches. waiting for gm to mail letters about this issue to everyone who is affected regardless of where they live. according to an article from october 2012 "..the company also plans to send letters to owners in other states offering a free repair within a limited time period if the parts are cracked." ---> hurry up gm before someone who isn't covered but has this gas leak gets hurt. read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/autos/gm-recalls-41-000-vehicles-article-1.1171884#ixzz2erzwqv4y. *tr

I started smelling gas. i took it to my mechanic who told me my fuel pump is leaking and is bad. there is a recall on the fuel pumps of 2007-2009 cobolts only in some warm weather states. i don't understand why there isn't a national recall because and kind of spark could start a fire. *tr

Noticing strong odor of gasoline. after being driven, the odor is very strong within the car. odor is also outside and very strong. can be smelled every time entering or exiting vehicle. odor remains even when vehicle has been off for several hours. checked for drips/leaks and could not locate. vin # is part of recall data base but recall "doesn't apply" to my car because of what state i live it (???). *tr

Raw gas smell from driver's rear side of vehicle. low gas mileage and bad performance. *tr

Vehicle reeks of fuel and has a fuel leak. gm offered a recall in several states stopping at the one right below mine because the heat is the problem. vehicle isn't driven nearly as much as others due to short distance to work, but they will not repair the problem. *tr

Fuel pump module may crack and cause fuel to leak and car to catch fire. i live in the state of ohio . i have to 2 children that i drive with in my car. i want to know why the recall is only for certain states. i cannot afford to have this fixed. this problem is not only going on in the southern states. this recall need to be for all states. this is extremely dangerous. *tr

My car began smelling of gasoline and got worse over a few days. i took it to my repair shop and they had to replace the fuel pump. i then saw that there was a recall for this very same problem. i called gm and was told there was nothing they could do because i took it to an unauthorized shop for repair. was i suppose to drive around in a car leaking gas until i could get to a shop they liked? i read on the internet that i was eligible for a reimbursement if i had already made the repair. *tr

The plastic supply or return port on the fuel pump module in my vehicle has cracked which caused a fuel leak. i started to notice a strong odor of gasoline on the passenger side of my vehicle in late august. i called a local chevy dealer and took my car in to have it checked out. i was informed that there was a recall for the fuel pump module for some 2007 chevy cobalt and while my vin was within the affected numbers, my vehicle was not covered because of the state where it was purchased/ i reside. i have two young children and am not happy that gm would allow owners of their product be in danger when they know they have produced a faulty product. if recalls were issued in arizona, california, florida, nevada, and texas why do the rest of us have to deal with it???? i read in usa today that gm would offer a repair to those experiencing this issue who were within a certain mileage but have not heard anything more from gm on this issue. "but the company also plans to send letters to owners in other states offering a free repair within a limited time period if the parts are cracked. that offer is valid for 10 years or 120,000 miles from the date the vehicle was sold, spokesman alan adler said." (http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2012/09/29/general-motors-recall/1602747/). *tr

at the end of aug 2012, i noticed a faint smell of gas while driving. i checked the gas cap , under the car for leaks and checked the injectors for leaks. everything seemed ok. when i open the trunk the smell of gas is strong. also about two weeks ago when i started the car in the morning i had to pump the gas peddle often to start the car, seems that i was losing pressure somewhere in the fuel line. i was ready to replace the fuel pump when i read about the recall on the internet, but not for my state. what a bunch of#@$. i called gmc and complained, they stated that i would have to pay out of pocket and then possibly be reimbursed. today on the internet gmc stated i could get a special coverage warranty. i'll see how that goes. gmc's rationalization that the states they listed for recall have higher temperatures than colorado depends on where you live in that state, i assure you it gets just as hot in colorado. regardless, gmc should give some type of notification to all owners of said recalled vehicles. so they could at least be aware of a potential problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that while traveling 20 mph, there was a strong fuel odor emitting from the outside of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that the vin failed to qualify for repairs under nhtsa campaign number 09v419000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 88,000

My vehicle has a fuel leak. identified by a mechanic as a cracked fuel pump, which is the exact recall for the 2007 chevy cobalt. chevrolet is refusing to implement a recall on my vehicle. this vehicle is damaged and highly explosive due to a manufacturers default. *tr

Tl* the contact owns 2007 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that fuel was leaking from the fuel pump module valve. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the fuel leak was coming from under the vehicle and gas smell from the interior and exterior of the vehicle. the vehicle was then taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the fuel pump module valve needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure was 97,000.

There is a recall on this issue but only in certain states, delaware is not one of them. (nhtsa campaign id number:09v419000) i had to have the fuel pump replaced because it leaked fuel which is the same issue under the recall. if the problem is the fuel pump why would it matter what state your vehicle is registered in? i'm sure there are many more complaints on this and i hope that you will look into it further. i spoke with gm and they will not cover my expenses. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that the vehicle was leaking fuel abnormally. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pump had developed a crack and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 95,000 and the current mileage was 96,000.

I have read recalls on 2007 chevy cobalts for the fuel system having a crack in the line causing a fuel leak, but the recalls are for certain states. my car was first purchased in indiana-auctioned in ohio. i have contacted gm and they state this vehicle does not have the recall, but it is the same problem as the other recalls in the other states. i think it should be investigated, if you search the web on common posts related people have this same problem and have to pay a lot of money to get it fixed when it seems to be a recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that there was an overpowering gasoline fuel odor inside the vehicle. in addition, the contact noticed that the vehicle would consume more fuel than normal. the vehicle was taken to a repair shop where the mechanic determined there was a leak from the top of the fuel tank. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number 09v419000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump) however, the contact's vin was not included. the approximate failure and current mileage was 60,974.

There is a strong smell of leaking gasoline. there is an existing recall for a fuel leak on this make, model and year, but not in virginia!? nhtsa campaign id number: 09v419000 component: fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump the dealer refuses to fix this problem under recall, saying it does not apply to my vin. my car is affected by this problem, and what state i am in should not exclude them from responsibility. this recall must be extended to all affected owners in every state. *tr
