Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Coming to a stop at a stop sign in my neighborhood, about to turn right when my locks started locking/unlocking on their own repeatedly. my power steering goes out, check engine light comes on, and traction control light activates.. my dash flashes service traction /power steering. speedometer stops working.

The automatic headlights on the car do shut off intermittently. they also turn on by themselves sometimes when the car is parked and off. we have been stranded with a dead battery when this happens. this seems to be a common problem with the 2007 and newer cobalts. typically cars had a physical relay to control the headlights. in these cars the relay circuit is built in the underside of the engine compartment fuse box. the box is not seal properly and moisture gets into the box, causing a failure on the circuit board. this car first started doing this back in 2009 when my daughter had it. i recently took the car back and it was still behaving in this manner. the work around that seemed to work for a long time was to manually turn the auto lights off using the multifunction lever on the steering wheel. today, the lights started coming on by themselves when the car was parked. also, turning the auto lights off manually has stopped being effective. we are now fearful, will the lights shut off while we are driving, and off course will we be stranded with a dead battery when parking the car. the solution seems to be to replace the fuse box in the engine compartment a $200 part plus a few labor hours. then you have to rig up a solution to make the defective box seal, such as adding weatherstripping. i feel this should be a safety recall for gm to fix at no cost to customer. This is the second time this has happened(~6 months apart). when i'm going around 50-60 mph and need to hit the brakes to slow the car quickly (not slam the brakes), they lock up. i hit the brakes and turned to the left the first time and turned to the right the second. both times the front brakes locked up, i went fishtailing across 3 lanes and ending up facing oncoming traffic both times. i've been lucky both times and not been hit by anyone else but i'm sure my luck will run out one day. additional note: the car turned off the first time. and the 2nd time, the driver's side rear tire was shredded.--2007 cobalt- 125k miles. brake job done 2016. this entry is 2/27/19.

My daughter's 2007 cobalt shuts down while driving to and from school. she was able to pull over out of traffic and park on the shoulder. it has happened several times for two consecutive days. when attempting to start the car, it seems as if the entire electrical system is dead. the car will not start, the key is stuck in the ignition and the steering wheel is locked.

I was driving home from work and my car all of a sudden cut off, i couldn't accelerate the strearing wheel got stiff and it just so happen i was able to pull over and not crash my car or even hurt myself..

It starting having flashing dashboard lights once as i was driving it just a few blocks from my home the first time it happened all gauges go everywhere up down or stop it looks like a christmas tree! and before the gear shift had some clicking at times. the clicking started then the gauges started going all over and the speed was all over then dropped to 0 not to move again. it's been happening on and off for about 8 years but as time goes on it's getting really bad i've kept looking for recalls as did my mother as she had the car before my owning it. it now does this anytime and the steering stops working with no notice or if it's not working and trying to pull over as it did on an on-ramp it kicked on and made the car jump into side lane about half way into that lane. had it been a two lane road and a car coming towards me it would have been a dead head head on collision as it takes time and a lot of power to move the car when the steering is like a 1950 tractor in a wet field! i have back issues and don't have the upper arm strength that it really needs. there in no real warning when it's going to happen. but sometimes i hear a click and it happens a few seconds later. also the interior lights every one through inside of the car stopped working about 3 months when my parents bought the car used back in june 08 they have never worked since. it had like 23,000 miles on it roughly. they was in middle 60s back then. it's now a family car and it's scary to have to drive it but i've got money in it i can't afford a replacement now. i have video of what it does. i just have videos no pictures.

Takata recall as i was driving through a parking lot all the dashboard needles went crazy then my steering was hard to turn so i immediately put the vehicle in park and shut off the vehicle, i tried to start the car and it didn't want to start eventually it started after a few more trys to turn the car back on. also the key ignition is hard to turn when inserting the key into the ignition, air bag service is always showing on my dash when i'm driving

My car dies unexpectedly when coming to a full stop at traffic lights and stop signs.

Says ecm but all gauges going nuts

Twice now i've lost all power to my car driving down the highway. i can not remove the key, there is no power to anything. i replaced the battery after the 1st time. exact same thing happened again.

I already know about the airbag and ignition recalls but, now, i have a fuel leak with fuel dripping down the lines from the tank on to the ground at a position on the drivers side under the rear passenger door and seat.

Go to shut the ignition off in the vehicle stays running for 30 to 60 seconds check engine light stays on even with the key off this is after the ignition switch has been replaced at the dealership

Im driving and all the gauges go wacko swinging back and forth, anti theft light comes on check engine light abs light low fuel light traction light. it reads service traction power steering low fuel every light you can think of comes on and the car even jerks when changing into gear. at times the steering even has locked up on me, thank god at those times i was on a residential street and not freeway. at times it wont even start all the lights are just going basurk. then theres days where its normal like it never even happened. im afraid its going to lock up on me on the freeway and im going to have a serious accident!! the 2 recalls that my vechicle had have already been replaced but there is still issues!! this car needs to be completely recalled, i researched the issue im having and found out many many other people are having the same issue. some people have even died!!! others major accidents, what more has to happen for this vehicle to be recalled? how many more people have to loose their lives?? this is a serious issue that needs to be taken care of asap!!! and when this issue occurs with the lights and gauges going crazy it happens as im driving. i pray nothing happens to my 3 yr old daughter and i. this issue has been happening for about an year now off and on.

The defect: no audible warning chime when the drivers door is opened after turning off the ignition and leaving the key in the cylinder. there is also no audible chime when the seatbelt is not connected while driving and the turn signals make no audible sounds when on. all audible sounds are played using the vehicles sound system. i saw there has been a recall issued for other gm models with similar problems. this problem is common with this make and model and other similar gm vehicles. my chimes haven't worked right for awhile now. a quick google search shows this is a on going problem with gm radios for a long time. a recall has been issued for newer gm vehicles with similar problems general motors recalls chevrolet sonic, trax and spark over radio compliance issue read more: http://gmauthority.com/blog/2016/05/chevrolet-sonic-spark-trax-radio-compliance-recall/#ixzz4boc2c3p3

The driver side headlight stays dim. check engine light keeps coming on with something different. had two fuel pumps installed. the car last night had power but would not turn over or attempt to start. when driving at highway speeds the steering is loose, at low speeds power steering sometimes works. loud popping in slow sharp turns. just had it checked and new tires said suspension was great.

Power steering not fixed on open recall in 2010 power steering rack failure caused an accident in motion 3rd party dealership diagnosed the problem with the power steering rack failure, but was unable to fix.

My key has been getting stuck in the ignition for not reason, i have to take extra time to start my car about 5 times and put it in all the gears before it will allow me to remove my key from the ignition.

Key was stuck in ignition and was unable to start. replaced body module control and now the check engine light wont go off, says air bags need service, radio is locked out, with a slew of other problems. took it car to the dealership to find no resolution. my car also lost power steering briefly after only driving about 15 minutes.

While driving the vehicle lost power. at times it could be re-started and at times it had to be towed for repair. multiple dealerships and local mechanics attempted numerous repairs but could not locate problem. after years of unsafe driving the issue was resolved. the problem was described in service bulletin 07-06-04-0190 electrical intermittent reduced power dated 6/28/2011. the dealerships could not find the problem but my local mechanic finally did. in our small village he has since repaired numerous cobalts with the same problem. i asked him if a recall would be issued and he said not until a significant number of people die as a result and the problem could be pinpointed. this is not acceptable. it took almost two years of unsafe driving before the problem was discovered and repaired.

Cobalt will randomly display car lock symbol and check engine light on the dash. the gauges on the dash (speedometer, gas, etc.) begin to flash back and forth, and error messages come up saying "no fuel", "power steering" and rotate between the two. while the car is doing this, it becomes hard to accelerate and the car surges randomly. it's happened frequently, and we have taken the car in to several different mechanics, all who cannot figure out what is causing the issue. we have replaced the main computer, and still are having the same issues. it is not safe to drive as i cannot see how fast i am going when the gauges start to go crazy, and the car will begin to think it's out of gas, even on a full tank. we have had so many issues with chevrolet cars over the past few years that we no longer wish to purchase from them. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet cobalt. while making a left turn, the vehicle suddenly shut off and the driver lost control of the steering causing the vehicle to crash into a parked vehicle. during the incident, the driver suffered a back injury. the front seat passenger suffered a neck and back injury and the rear passenger seat occupant sustained a head and right side injury. all occupants received medical attention. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the failure was caused by a faulty ignition switch. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 105,000.

My head lights will not go off unless i unplug my battery, and my signal light won't go off the chavy dealer claims not to know what's going on with it unless i pay them $200 ,first. its been about 30 days now that this has been going on. *tr

I was backing up out of my driveway to let another car out and as soon as i put the car in reverse the car made the chime noise as if it was telling me to put on my seatbelt seconds later power steering was flashing on the dashboard the rpm gauge was jumping, the fuel gauge was jumping back and forth, low fuel blinking on dashboard with full tank of gas, steering wheel very hard to turn, check engine light is on, security lock light is on, transmission clicks when shifting. called the dealer i financed the car from he told me to take it to a shop called precision auto services he couldn't figure out problem said most likely it was a computer issue so i called gm customer service to inform what was going on they had the car towed to bob johnson chevrolet and they did a recall on the ignition switch also said there was a broken shift cable installed a new cable, they also had to replace serpentine belt. after all that i pick up car and make payment a week and a half later car does the same thing. i call and explain to service assistant manager he says that he didn't check for power steering after i explained was the whole purpose of having the car looked at long story short he gave me the run around so i thought to look elsewhere i took it to another shop where it was diagnosed free of charge he said that there were lots of codes on my car. but the car was back to normal after diagnosis then about 3 weeks later same problem took it back he explained to me that whoever disconnected a remote starter on my car didn't do it properly causing the modules in the car to not communicate. i paid to have that repaired 2 weeks later same problem now mechanic tells me its transmission control module which costs almost $500 which is over my budget. i'm making payments on something that i should be able to drive to and from work safe and comfortably. please help! *tr

I purchase the car from schofield in 2008 it has had two recalls one on the gas tank and another on the steering column now it is acting up everyday i think it is due to the cold weather and it has to be a manufacturing issue the warning lights began to flash on come on the gauges go up and down like crazy the gas hand goes up and then below empty the car loses power the power steering light comes on the brake light comes on it begins to make a clicking noise and it jerks as it drives i am so afraid to drive my car because of these defects, i took the car into scofield a couple of weeks ago they said they could not find anything wrong but it is obvious there are things that are wrong when i tried to turn a corner its like the power steering goes out i have the papers from schofield i need someone to help me please i don't want to be another victim of this car. *tr
