Had drove the car little while, then made a stop, cranked the car to leave and sounded like it was low on oil, that kind of. tapping sound. oil was fine. but the sound still there the next day. after driving it a mile or two. it got louder, then the check engine light came on. i stopped at the closest part store about 5 min after the light came on. they checked it with the scanner. said it was a knock sensor code. p0328, bank 1.took it to vw. to get a diagnosits done. and the man said it was due to a recall. the problem i was hearing, and the code. was from the recalled part. they changed that part. said it was a fuse panel on engine block. the problem was still the same. then, he said it was not due to the recall. and i still had to pay the 120 dollar for the diagnostic. and said they would have to open the engine to check any further, and that the labor would be about 2000 dollars. i had took it by vw before it started to have any noticeable problems.when i had happened to look up recalls online. the man looked it up by my vin. told me there were 3 active recalls. but it would be another week before they could get to it. i asked if it would be ok to continue driving it, was any of them serious enough to not. he told me , no, that it would be fine to drive. said specially since i wasent having any problems already .
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. while the vehicle was idling at a stop sign, it stalled and an unknown warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was parked for an hour before it was able to restart. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the timing sensor needed to be replaced. the contact replaced the sensor, but the failure recurred. a dealer was not contacted. the contact was unable to contact the manufacturer. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 173,000.
My daughter is driving a 2009 vw jetta that is not fit for the road, the dealership says it isn't there problem, berlin city honda, and that they don't work on them, and the extended warranty doesn't cover it, as the light turns green she steps on the gas,and no power and the steering wheel locks, she is in heavy traffic and in a panic, she pulls the key, puts it back in and the car starts again, now it keeps happening and berlin city says they can't help her? is this a recall?
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that the check engine and epc warning indicators illuminated upon driving the vehicle. the vehicle began to jerk, stall, and failed to accelerate. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the cam shaft sensor and crank shaft sensor failed. the vehicle was towed to ourisman volkswagen of bethesda (7001 arlington rd, bethesda, md 20814, (301) 750-6100) where it was diagnosed that the cam bridge spring disintegrated and popped out into the engine. the manufacturer stated that they had no knowledge of the failure. the dealer quoted a repair cost of over $5,000. the failure mileage was 90,084.
After months of car bogging eventually my check engine light went on. code read for oxygen sensor. shortly after epc light came on. car wouldn't move. after research i found that many jetta's hv this issue. recall?
While driving my 2009 vw jetta i went to pull out into intersection and the car shut off with no warning. at this time a light came on that says epc and prior to this my car would not start and would say safe on warning lights. this is a hazard to drive does anyone know what the problem could be and when item is replaced do i have to have the computer reprogrammed after this what a pain
Oil seals leaking oil all over engine, major carbon build up failing axles. i was driving on the road and the car made a major thud and check engine light came on. took car to dealer next day and they found all seals on the engine are leaking oil and water pump has failed and major carbon build up in engine. found oil on ground of my garage. front suspension known to make crunching sounds when going over major bumps when cold.
First my car had trouble turning over after a misfire. then while driving the car (in motion) as i was coming to a stop the engine began to sputter and feel as if it was lunging forward. i drove it straight to the vw service center which was nearby. now they are telling me it is a timing issue which i suspect to be the timing chain tensioner.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). later, when the vehicle was started, the abs, brake, epc, and esc indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to autonation volkswagen las vegas (6375 w sahara ave, las vegas, nv 89146). the vehicle was not repaired because another unknown repair needed to be completed first. the vehicle was then taken to findlay volkswagen (983 auto show drive, henderson, nv 89014) where the previous dealer's assessment was confirmed. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the check engine and epc indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the contact was unsure of the diagnosis. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and stated that they would not assist. the approximate failure mileage was 3,000.
My 2009 jetta has been experiencing issues. the abs light, stability control light, brake light, and check engine light stay on. the car sputters from time to time. i took it to the dealer in my town for the volkswagen recall on the abs system. they supposedly fixed the abs software and module. then they tell me the abs pump is bad but not covered under warranty. it will be $3000 to replace! they replaced the mass air intake, a $442.00 repair and the car is still missing. check engine lights still on. now epc light is on. also, all of my abs lights, check engine, stability control, and brake lights are still on. how do i know the dealer actually did the abs repair? also, why is the abs pump not part of the recall? it's difficult to believe that the software caused the abs module to fail, but had nothing to do with the pump. this car seems to be a lemon. are there any plans to address the abs pump issue?
2009 volkswagen jetta wolfsburg 2.0tsi timing chain tensioner failure. at 109k miles the car would not start in the am to go to work. this happened on 12/23/16. had car towed to dealer and received phone call from service department that the timing chain tensioner had failed. the engine will need between $3600 and $5500 to replace the engine components. i was told by the service tech to call vw customer care because this is a known issue and they may help with the repairs. vw told me they knew nothing about this problem. got a second opinion from a mechanic that was previously employed by vw and he verified the diagnosis. the car is still sitting in my driveway without being repaired. i have since found that this is a very large issue that goes back to the 2008 model year. there are several class action lawsuits pertaining to this issue. one case filed in new jersey in may 2016 has just had another hearing on may 9th 2017 where the supreme court of nj has agreed to let the case go forward stating there is enough evidence showing vw at fault. i have documentation from the dealer and can provide that once i am back at my home. any help the many consumers that own vw and audi vehicles with the 2.0tsi engine from 2008-2013 can get would be greatly appreciated. researching vw 2.0tsi timing tensioner on the internet will bring up the hundreds, if not more, of the people that have paid upwards of $10k to have engines repaired on cars that have as little as 30k miles on them. the vw service manual does not mention the timing chain tensioner needing service at a particular mileage.
Wife went outside to start her tdi and after sitting and making no progress in warming and smelling a lot of un-burnt diesel she decided to shut it off. after she came inside and told me it was not warming up and it seemed to be running out of fuel very quickly i went outside to check it out. i could see that diesel had leaked onto the ground, so i opened the hood and fuel was dripping from the engine mounted fuel pump. i left it overnight at this point to make sure no fires where started. the next morning i took it apart to find out what the source of the leak and after removing the pump, associated electrical, and rubber lines i saw the end of the pump had popped out of its crimped aluminum case. this was allowing diesel to leak past the running electric pump and onto the running engine which at the point of turning it off had covered the entire serpentine side of the engine completely in fuel. it was a bosch part #1k0 906 098a we have contacted vw about this and they offered no assistance in either offering to investigate the leak or expediting the buyback process to remove this vehicle from the roads and my driveway knowing that it leaked fuel. vw did acknowledge a prior recall on a rubber fuel supply line had been performed before the car was purchased. *tr
The vehicle was stationary at idle for approximately 15 minutes. fire started under the hood at unknown location. initial smell of "something hot" was followed by smoke through vents. noticed smoke between hood and windshield. paint on hood bubbled in approximate location above oil cap / diesel particulate filter. shut engine off and exited the vehicle.
Car's abs and brake system has been failing once a while causing car to lose control of stability. random "engine workshop failure" many times while starting up the car and car performance gets very limited.
Engine rear main seal failed on 80,000 miles. engine oil leaking.
I am requesting that the dot nhtsa investigate the timing chain tensioner in this make and model of car. i started my car one morning and the engine made a metallic rattling sound as i proceeded to back out of the driveway. no check engine light came on until reaching the end of the driveway. car was then driven to dealership immediately and diagnosed as having "jumped time" due to the failure of the timing chain tensioner. upon picking up the car several days later after the repairs were complete, the service advisor informed us that the metal ring holding the tensioner latch in place had fallen off; allowing the tiny adjustable latch to fall out, and that both pieces were lying, loose, in the compartment when the car was taken apart. this failure appears to be related to technical service bulletin 15-12-01. a web search reveals that this problem has become more and more common and affects multiple years and models of volkswagen automobiles. the car had approximately 49,000 miles on it at the time of the failure and never missed a service. vw was notified of the failure. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. while the vehicle was parked, it failed to start and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing chain tensioner fractured. as a result, the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 88,020.
The abs module needs to be restore or replace. the lights on the dashboard that comes on includes engine, brakes, steering, abs, and e.t.c.(electronic throttle control).what actually happens when it comes on is it hard to steer, acceleration goes slow, beeping hearing test noise frequents , gas gauge goes to e, and speedometer stops working. this happens frequently and doesn't matter what road or highway i'm what makes it more dangerous when its hard to steel and the brake lights are constantly flashing.
We have been having an issue with the engine stalling out while driving. it started with the epc light coming on several months ago, but the light does not stay on and there has been no consistency to the occurrences. however, now, the car will stay running for long and stalls out shortly after starting. the epc comes on sometimes, but not every time that is stalls out. today i took the car for a drive around the block, as soon as i got it back home, it stalled out. from that point on the car would not stay running for more than 15 seconds.
Engine fire in motion on the highway cause unknown.
Just bought this car from a dealership 2 months ago. we haven't even put 2,000 mile on the car yet and the check engine light came on. i talked to my mechanic after i bought the car and he told me these cars are notorious for maf sensor failures and that it is not an easy fix. in fact he won't even work on this problem due to his past experiences with this exact problem. now i have to take it to vw and they will have to replace to whole throttle body and reprogram the ecu. kinda funny how my mechanic warned me if this problem and wasn't even time for an oil change before this happened. seems like vw has an issue with this problem and the fact they haven't done anything to rectify the problem such as recall or offer cheap solutions and charge over 1000$ to fix the problem and has to be done at vw to reset the ecu tells me they are doing this on purpose to make as much money as possible on repairs that should only cost a couple hundred dollars... completely not satisfied with vw will never buy one again, will never recommend one to anyone in fact will campaign to boycott vw at all costs!!
The timing chain tension broke causing the chain to break off and bend several values causing extension damage to the motor. most cars are equipped with timing belts but vw went to the timing chain in return the tensioner which they later revised is faulty and breaks causing the chain to destroy several important parts. vw is unwilling to help us with this issue that they know is an issue because they later corrected in the later models. i called customer care but because the power train warranty at 60,000 is expired they will do nothing. there is a huge forum started with several people that have had this use around 80-110,00 miles!! i am outraged and have to spend thousands of dollars to repair all the damage or basically get a new car. the car is worthless at this point.
Engine light came on, i had my mechanic do a 120,000 mile service and diagnose the dash engine light and the intake manifold was replaced. when i picked the car up i smelled diesel. i drove it 13 miles, when i got home i smelled diesel again. i opened the hood and there was diesel all over the left engine side. there was a wet, split fuel line, leaking fluid in the parking lot, a blue plastic set small rings (like the olympic symbol) sat near the split hose. it could have caused a fire, and other cars to be in danger from slick road, among other things.
Stopped and left the line at a green light when our 2009 jetta tdi sputtered and stopped in the middle of a busy intersection. was able to get the vehicle towed to a local vw dealership and given an invoice for $5500 for the high pressure pump, which is identified a known issue by vw under a self-imposed extended warranty but never under a recall. as i was told by vw customer service, since there was never a catastrophic issue to our vehicle prior to 120k miles, instead at 124k miles, the safety items were not identified and corrected.
Driving down the road at 35 mph the car suddenly dies, leaving me no power to escape a possible accident, brakes are hard to use, stuck in a traffic lane with cars coming up on me at 35 to 45 mph, turns out the hpfp exploded sending metal thru out the fuel system causing the engine to starve for fuel and stall out, with no fuel getting to the engine the motor wont restart causing a life threatening situation
I was driving down the street when a loud beeping and the red abs failure + every light on dashboard lit up. every gauge stopped working (the gas gauge, speedometer, etc) i was close to home and carefully proceeded to the house. after a half mile the car stalled and the engine died. because i was prepared for an event, i immediately set hazards and rolled to the side of the road. i restarted the car and made it the rest of the way home (2 blocks) without it stalling again. i have not driven the car since, i took it the vw dealer and it was determined the abs module failed / broke and caused the problems. this is obviously a manufacturing the defect which can cause an immediate harmful affect. if i was on a highway or being careful far beyond any normal sense i could have easily been in a life threatening accident.
Started the car and after about 5 minutes of driving, the engine shuts off but all electrical systems appear to be working. no trouble/ indicator lights come on. this has happened on the interstate traveling 70, on a side street traveling 35, and sitting idle at a stop light. every time, the car will run for between 5-7 minutes than not restart for 5-7 minutes. at attempts to restart inside that 5 minute window after the engine stalls, there is no turning over, no clicking or anything. there is no temp issues, or low fuel issues. this has happened on a full tank and a half tank also. *tr
While driving on the highway, the check engine light came on and the car began slowing itself down. when i tried to accelerate the engine revved and the rpm indicator went up but the car would not speed up past 45 mph and the steering wheel shook very hard the rest of the way. when i took it for diagnostics and repair, the codes p2431 and p2432 indicated a faulty sensor in the air injection system pressure sensor. i was told that volkswagon was aware of the particular problem, which has occurred in a high number of vehicles and they in fact recommended an updated version of the injection hose and sensor. this was a $350 repair on a vehicle with less than 30,000 miles and according to volkswagon a common repair. i don't think it's fair that consumers should absorb the cost of this type of repair.
We were driving on down the road and the cars lights started blinking and then car stop running and stopped dead in the road. could not get it started again. if it had been on the freeway i am sure i would not be typing this we would be in hospital or worse. we had to get out and the steering was not working to get it to side of road. i am elderly and do not have alot of strength. we had to pay extra to aaa to tow it since we were far away from dealer. the dealer called and said there was metal shavings in fuel line and components. i researched online and have seen several of the same things happening to other cars. this is a real safety issue. please help fix before someone dies http://www.carproblemzoo.com/volkswagen/jetta/2009/car-stall-problems.php car stall problem 2 failure date: 10/25/2012 while driving the dash warning lights illuminated and the car stalled causing complete loss of all power steering almost causing me to lose control and wreck. i was able to steer car to side of road and stop. once stopped was able to get car to restart but was barely able to drive home (periodically died and had to restart, wouldn't stay running or idle). had car towed to repair shop. they have diagnosed problem as low rail fuel pressure caused by failed high pressure fuel pump. this failure caused metal shavings to be dispersed throughout entire fuel system. i'm told that the hp fuel pump, low and high pressure fuel regulators, and tank fuel pump all must be replaced along with a complete removal and cleaning of all fuel system components. estimated cost to repair is between $7,000 and $10,000. this car is a diesel tdi. *tr
Vehicle engine shut off during travel, due to fuel filter being clogged by metal debris. the high pressure injection pump failed effectively ending the life of the engine. the welds on the high pressure injection pump had deteriorated, resulting metal debris to circulate through complete injection system. after multiple failed attempts to flush out the injection system it was decided that the best course of action was to replace the engine if a replacement could be found. a replacement was found and the current engine installed has the same high pressure injection pump, as a replacement part is not available to independent shops, only to dealerships. cost of replacing engine - $8,500.00. *tr

2009 volkswagen jetta tdi with dsg transmission with 67,000miles while accelerating to roadway speed the vehicle began hesitating followed by a dramatic loss of power and struggled to accelerate at all. glow plug light began flashing and check engine light came on after about 1 minute. dramatic loss of power could have resulted in crash. volkswagen dealer diagnosed the issue as a defective crank shaft position sensor which could only be replaced at a cost of over $2,000 due to the in accessibility of the sensor and needing to uninstall and re-install the engine. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. while driving approximately 35 mph, the engine stalled and the vehicle failed to restart. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
For the past year or so my 2009 jetta tdi (diesel) has had the same recurring problem: my glow plug light will come on and i lose normal driving capabilities. i cannot accelerate or maintain speed as i normally do. my car will remain around 25 mph, sometimes losing power until i am forced to pull over. my solution has been to turn the car off, and back on again. the light will go off and i can drive normally most of the time. sometimes i have to leave the car off for a period of time to regain standard driving capabilities. it has been about 2 weeks since that has happened. 2 days ago, my engine light came on. i took it to the dealer and they pulled codes p0087 and p0088 (fuel pressure too high and fuel pressure too low at the same time). they want me to replace the fuel rail, which will be an estimated $1000 in total parts/labor. i called another dealer in hopes of getting a better price and they are put off by the first dealer's recommendations. i was told there is no evidence of metal in my fuel system but even so, other dealer thinks this will be more serious than just replacing the rail. after researching i am beginning to think that i am experiencing the beginning of hpfp failure. i feel like i am driving a ticking time bomb and i'm not sure what to do! replacing the fuel rail feels like a quick, expensive and inefficient solution to a bigger problem. i contacted volkswagen customer care and i was told that i will receive a call from a regional agent about my situation tomorrow. *tr
Driving down freeway at 61mph, engine turns off. no power steering or brakes while i changed lanes in heavy traffic to get to the shoulder of the road. car would not start and had to tow to the dealership. dealer replaced battery, primed fuel system, gave car back. after five days, check engine light came on, so i took car to dealership. they replaced glow plug control module and gave car back. driving down highway when car again dies, engine turns off without warning. i have to change lanes again with no power steering or brakes to get off the road. towed vehicle to dealership where they say the high pressure fuel pump needs to be replaced. this is a very scary and dangerous problem to have a car turn itself off while driving down the freeway. *tr
Driving on a busy 4 lane road my car suddenly stopped just flashed a few lights on the panel for few seconds. the car would not start. could not be moved lucky that there were no injuries. the vehicle towed to vw dealer, basil vw at lockport and was told that the high pressure fuel pump exploded. caused extensive damage requiring numerous components, with a total cost of about $7,000.00 the car was service by a vw dealer or by a repair shop owned by aaa of wny located at clarence ny. this came on with out a warning, was not informed about this problem. had owned diesel cars since 1977 and did not face any such problem or hear of such a problem. *tr

The car was running fine up to the time it quit. it stalled in a puddle after 7 days of rain so i assumed it had gotten water in the system somehow. i had it towed to my local mechanic. he in turn called the dealer who said they were unable to sell him the parts for the repair and that i needed to have it towed to them. i have since been told the repair work will be between 8 and 10 thousand dollars to replace the diesel fuel system! i told them to hold off so that i can way my options. i have since verified that indeed the high pressure fuel pump had disintegrated and destroyed the fuel system. *tr

The water pump failed at approximately 70 mph. the impeller came off of the shaft inside of the pump because of a poor design(plastic). this caused the vehicle to overheat. went ahead and had the timing belt done also. cost of repair was $1131.87. *tr
I am "guessing at some of the information above since it was the first time it happened and i didn't give it much thought then. at that time, i was making a right-hand turn to another street and the engine stalled. there was no warning light or signal. i pulled over to the side of the road, restarted the engine and it worked fine. this occurred sometime in mid to late september. yesterday (12/24/2014) i was at a stoplight and this happened again -- the engine stalled while i was already stopped while waiting for the light to change from red to green. again, there was no warning light or signal. it was remniscent of when i drove a standard transmission vehicle and inappropriately took my foot off the clutch. i was able to re-start and engine ran fine. i am leery of driving the car again, however, for fear that this will happen again. i plan to take to my mechanic asap. reading the descriptions others have had with this issue are very similar to mine. i have kept up with maintenance and care of the vehicle and it has less than 25k miles on it. *tr
Driving on my way home from work in town and all of a sudden the glow plug light comes on flashing and the engine light appears on the dash. i immediately turned off the car restarted the car and the problem was not resolved and a message appeared on the sash "engine fault workshop!". hpfp failure. *tr

Sunrise v.w. had my 2009 jetta tdi in their shop yesterday, and after diagnostics informed me that i needed both cooling fans, and the intake manifold replaced. i have geico mechanical break down insurance. the adjuster only approved the replacement of the cooling fans. on the way home my check engine light came on, i heard a pop sound from the engine, and lost all of the cars power. this loss of power happened while traveling in traffic at about 30 mph. i believe the intake manifold failed, and caused the loss of engine power. the car was then towed back to sunrise v.w. *tr

The car began to flash the "glow plug" warning light along with a message "engine fault workshop" pulled to the side of the road and attempted to restart. engine would crank but not turn over. got the following failure codes: p0087, p13e3, p2196. looks like this is a common issue and yet vw does nothing about it. class action anyone?. *js
