The etc sign comes on and the car lost its power significantly. the obd scan does not show any code

The car disables the abs while driving, and the abs, brake and electronic stability control indicators are lit simultaneously, while the car dings. quite distracting. a little research shows complaints for the same behavior since just oct. 30, 2019: nhtsa id number: 11277060 nhtsa id number: 11288718 nhtsa id number: 11283008 nhtsa id number: 11279604 there is a recall which was considered closed for my vehicle for this issue: 16v913000 dealership has also quoted about $1500 to replace the abs module, because the current module cannot be updated. seems like there are lots of bad modules that cannot be updated. this is a hazard condition; especially here in michigan.

Car abs systen danger. no mechanic can fix

Hi, i have a 2009 jetta 2.5 se and the door locks stopped working g both manually or with the key remote. i cannot lock my doors except for the driver door. it started this morning out of nowhere.

Had drove the car little while, then made a stop, cranked the car to leave and sounded like it was low on oil, that kind of. tapping sound. oil was fine. but the sound still there the next day. after driving it a mile or two. it got louder, then the check engine light came on. i stopped at the closest part store about 5 min after the light came on. they checked it with the scanner. said it was a knock sensor code. p0328, bank 1.took it to vw. to get a diagnosits done. and the man said it was due to a recall. the problem i was hearing, and the code. was from the recalled part. they changed that part. said it was a fuse panel on engine block. the problem was still the same. then, he said it was not due to the recall. and i still had to pay the 120 dollar for the diagnostic. and said they would have to open the engine to check any further, and that the labor would be about 2000 dollars. i had took it by vw before it started to have any noticeable problems.when i had happened to look up recalls online. the man looked it up by my vin. told me there were 3 active recalls. but it would be another week before they could get to it. i asked if it would be ok to continue driving it, was any of them serious enough to not. he told me , no, that it would be fine to drive. said specially since i wasent having any problems already .

Ignition key stuck in ignition switch in the on/run position and will not turn off or come out of ignition.

My daughter is driving a 2009 vw jetta that is not fit for the road, the dealership says it isn't there problem, berlin city honda, and that they don't work on them, and the extended warranty doesn't cover it, as the light turns green she steps on the gas,and no power and the steering wheel locks, she is in heavy traffic and in a panic, she pulls the key, puts it back in and the car starts again, now it keeps happening and berlin city says they can't help her? is this a recall?

I had made an appointment with volkswagen dealership to have my car looked at because of the recall. my abs light came on and has been on for weeks. it hasn't turned off. when i took my car in they tried to perform a software update but weren't able to because apparently the module went out before the recall. i haven't had any problems with this until just a few weeks ago so i don't understand how that is possible. now they are saying its technically my fault and now im stuck paying 1200 on an abs module and maintenance. my abs light came on went i went around a corner and slammed on my breaks, ever since then it wont turn off.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that while the driver was driving, all the warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated with a beeping noise. the vehicle was taken to carolina volkswagen (7800 e independence blvd, charlotte, nc 28227, (704) 537-2336) where it was diagnosed that the abs module failed and needed to be replaced. the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control) but could not complete the recall due to the module had failed. the vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fees. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not offer further assistance. the approximate failure mileage was 124,000.

Not able to take key out of ignition switch. car is parked and still running not able to take key out.

Clock spring failure at 49,500 miles. resulted in no horn and no steering wheel airbag functionality.

My vehicle was parked at home. i tried to start my vehicle; which it did but once i got to my destination the key would not come out and the vehicle would not turn off. i tried for 3 hours to remove the key. the only oppostion i had was to take it to a dealership at night; so that the car would be safe. i took the fuse out at and detached the battery plug turning off the car, but i had to leave the key in the ignition. i had just purchased the vehicle a week earlier and will have to pay 800.00 to have it repaired. i have never experienced a vehicle not cutting off ever and this is a terrible defect to any volkswagen owner to have to endure such a problem with a vehicle. i normally purchase honda due to the dependability, but i told my husband i always wanted to drive a volkswagen. im now sorry that i purchased this vehicle. that defect is very dangerous to anyone owning this type of vehicle. my vehicle is currently in he shop, which i have to wait for the part to come from germany. the volkswagen shop told me it will be two weeks and i only had the vehicle for one week not even a month yet. extremely dissatisfied customer.

Started with key being very difficult to turn on or off in ignition and the steering column lock no longer engaged at all when the car was off. then, twice within 1 mile, the steering column lock did engage while the car was being operated in a turn at approximately 45 miles per hour. after parking the car immediately following, the key would not turn to the off position until the exposed end of the key was tapped with a hammer. steering column lock then appeared to lock and unlock appropriately, however, key will no longer turn in the ignition to the start position. car is currently at the local dealership who has diagnosed the problem of an "inoperable steering column lock" and is performing the needed repair.

My ignition would not shut off key is stuck and ignition won't turn

Takata recall airbags airbag light on horn stopped working

Fuse box in engine compartment melted. the location is where the right sit headlight fuse is. rf headlight and turn signal do not work. i looked the problem up and found that there are many other people that have same type vehicle with this same problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that various warning indicators illuminated and the speedometer malfunctioned, which resulted in the speedometer not indicating the correct speed. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. white allen volkswagen was contacted and refused to perform the repair due to the abs module being defective, which needed to be replaced before the recall could be performed. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was approximately 120,000. parts distribution disconnect.

Takata recall. in february of 2017 my check engine light came on and was accompanied by a series of 3 beeps. as i continued to drive more lights came on and my dash board looked like a christmas tree ex. airbag, oil, check engine, abs, epc, brake light, etc. when driving on the high way my gauges will shut off and i can not see how fast i am going, my car will decelerate with my foot on the gas at random times on the high way. i look my car in for repair to cars auto in las vegas because my car could not pass smog. they did an analysis and informed me that my abs module was shot and there was an active recall for the device. i took it to my local vw dealership and thought with my safety in concern that this would be a simple fix. instead, they informed me that i would need to make an appointment and come back another day but i refused to drive my car off the lot. they took my car to the back and said that my abs module was not communicating with the computer and that i would need to pay $700 to have a diagnostic done before they would replace my abs. if the abs is faulty as explained in recall #16v913 under vw action 45f2 if the abs fails to pass the test then it will be replaced free of charge. they seem to not be complying and giving me the run around.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). when the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, it was diagnosed that the vehicle's software failed and was unable to be updated. the dealer also stated that the module needed to be replaced; however, approval from the manufacturer was needed. the manufacturer determined that although the dealer diagnosed that the module needed to be replaced, it would not be replaced. the recall stated that "any module that fails the new diagnostic test will be replaced." the failure mileage was unknown. parts distribution disconnect.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. the contact was unable to start the vehicle and all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed as needing a new battery. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact mentioned that the battery was tested at the dealer and the vehicle was able to start. the contact also mentioned that the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 82,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. while driving, the contact stated that the vehicle performed abnormally. also, the speedometer and fuel gauge ceased to function, and the abs warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the abs module needed to be replaced. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control), but the technician refused to perform the repair due to the hydraulic pump needing to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 130,000. parts distribution disconnect.

Seat warmer burned a hole through the seat and burned through my clothing to my skin. i reached back to see what was wrong and burned my hand. i had smelled smoke but it was too late by the time i figured out what had happened. it could have been extremely dangerous if i had been on a busy road with my son and it started a fire. i was lucky i was in our small town and was able to get pulled over quickly. while there so no serious injury, this could have ended much worse.

While driving the vehicle all of a sudden starts to beep and the abs light, epc light, check engine light, brake light, and skid control light show. the vehicle sometimes loses the speedometer reading which drops to 0. this sporadically happens, sometimes it'll stay for days and other times it'll go away after 10 minutes and not appear again for a day or two. it seems to be happening more and more frequently. it happens when in motion and when starting the vehicle. this makes it very difficult to drive since the speedometer malfunctions and in the snow the vehicle seems to handle worse than usual and the brake system does not kick in every time. the abs module seems to be malfunctioning. *tr

The heated seat burned a hole in the seat. the interior of the seat sounds and feels that it has melted and has become hard. this is on the seat back. we are unsure when this burning occurred, but have noted below when we noticed this damage.

Feb 2014 headlights and brakelights were out...fuse plate and plug was replace at dealership . no charge. since then i constanly had to replace headlights and brake light bulbs. november 2016..headlights and brake light wont come on even woth bulbs change.took to dealership..states i need new fuse box..call vw customer care..i have to pay out of pocket...this lighting issue been a nuisance for two years.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the abs, brake, and slippery warning indicators intermittently illuminated. the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was towed to a fuel station and later to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the abs module failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 84,120.

The failure that occurred was while the vehicle was in motion, on a city street, almost all the indicator lights turned on (brake, abs, check engine, and stability control) and the fuel and speedometer gauges went out. after pulling over and restarting the car, it seem to operate ok, but then everything lit up again. i pulled over on a side street to test the brakes and it seemed to brake "normal" without engaging the abs. it seem like the car operates without abs, stability control, the speedometer, and fuel gauge.

We went to replace a key and remote on this car and when they went to "program" it they said that they were unable to as both the front drivers side door actuator and rear drivers side door actuator were both non responsive and would have to be replaced. as a consequence, we learned that the car cannot actually be locked using the remote. we understand that sometimes this gets worse over time and other aspects of the lock go bad -- you can't open the trunk, the rear door, etc. not being able to lock or unlock your doors is clearly a safety issue and one that you would have to fix in order to use the car. several people have fixed their own cars and volkswagen is aware of the issue, but won't provide the part at a decent price. the door lock actuator is $233.20 for the front door and $238.70 for the rear door. and the labor is $150 for each (involves fully removing both door panels etc.). the grand total the dealership is asking for the repair is $833. and this is only for 2 doors that have failed. we are asking that the nhtsa look into how many of these are failing in cars under 10 years old and looking into whether volkswagen is involved in a cover up of the faultiness of the original parts. they will not tell consumers how many of these fail or how many they replace. people who work on their own cars are repairing the parts themselves and the blogs are saying that it is an issue with the contacts inside the actuator failing and needing to be resoldered.

Here's another abs module failure thanks to vw's horrible design. the failure is causing the entire dash cluster to go haywire. car beeps all the time because it thinks the emergency brake is on. speedometer doesn't work! fuel gauge jumps up when engaging brakes. abs, traction, epc, cel lights constantly on, and sometimes it goes into limp mode making it dangerous to drive on the highway. vw charges $2,000 for the part excl labor which is 20% of the price of the car new. this should not happen with a seven year old car at only 100k miles

Dealer states "replace under hood fuse panel and 30 amp fuse (fuse panel under hood melting at sb16)". also reports "remove diesel particulate filter and replace abs module, bleed brake system, code new module and set basic settings for sensors (fault code 01130 abs operation implausible signal)". after i've researched this it seems there was a recall on many cars, #97am, but somehow not mine.

In april of 2016 car just had 6 indicator lights on dash. just happened one day on the highway. speedometer, gas gauge none of the dash worked. red light constant flashing. we ended up having to park it for 6 months while still paying 300 a month car payment and full coverage insurance until i had money to fix it. around the same time the back passenger window stopped working and still doesn't work. i got this car in march of 2015 i believe. it has cost me so much money and i am hoping that i may be able to get a reimbursement on the 800 i spent to fix it, only to have it do this stuff randomly every few months. just 2 weeks ago i had to slam on the brakes while driving and there was a bang sound and i drove it home. the next day it drove to work ok and then on way home when it started it immediately was running badly and check engine light and all that was on again. we took it to mechanic and he said thermostat was stuck open and it did need a coil and wires or something also. it has been just constant with this car and i am spending a ton of money. it's really difficult raising a family and working 30 miles away from my home and dealing with this constantly. oh, and the air conditioner only works in the winter time. definately not when idleling. mechanic says that's a 400$ part so i'm just trying to scrounge up the money to fix that part of the electric disaster this car is before it hits 101 on my days sitting in traffic. please help. the document i have to upload is the reciept from the repair. it was messed up for almost a year before i could fix it. mostly just sitting.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that the dealer completed a repair due to the vehicle randomly stalling and was uncertain of what part was replaced. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled more than once and was unable to restart. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 106,000.

I smelled something burning in my car for a little while last night. this morning, when the sun was out, i was able to see that there was a burn mark in my seat from the seat warmer.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. while attempting to start the vehicle, the abs control warning indicator illuminated continuously. the vehicle was taken to savannah volkswagen (50 eisenhower dr, savannah, ga 31406, (912) 920-5455) where it was diagnosed that the abs control unit needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Vw jetta wolfsburg edition 2009. 1. i have taken my car auto repair shop over 5x over the times over the past year because the 'engine malfunction' light was going on/off intermittently - on for 3 hours then off, on for 2 days, off. now the check engine light is permanently illuminated on the dashboard despite multiple engine auto repair services rendered. 2. the abs and eps/asr symbols illuminate and alarm goes off randomly without reason while i am driving 50-65mph on major nyc highways and/or when im driving 15-35 on a residential street. the eps/asr flashes continuously while sounding an alarm for 60 seconds or so, abs remains constant lit and will continue to do so until i am able to stop, turn of the engine, wait a minute, and then restart the car. on highway i have had to drive considerable distance with emergency lights flashing. 3. i was pulled over by a cop at night because one of my tail lights was out. i had no idea that was the case and would have never found out because the "light bulb!" warning was not on, and never came on. i got it fixed 2 days later, still no light bulb signal, my right taillight was replaced. about 2 weeks later the "light bulb!" icon illuminated, i tested and all the lights were working- but the 'lightbulb!' remained lit. about 2 weeks later the lightbulb was off. 4. the aux feature on my car is no longer accessible. repair shop but they were unable to fix because vw speciality code/ system programming? 5. i have noticed it takes more effort to engage my brakes while driving. i have had my car brake pads replaced at least 2x over the past 6 years (i have driven about 20k miles). also note - no symbol of emergency brake/ mechanic maintenance / worn brake pads/ automatic transmission/gearbox symbol were illuminated during this event (in february 2018) and none of these symbols had illuminated to this day (april 2018).

I've had to replace the low beam headlights 3 times within 18 months and now both low beam headlights do not work even after replacing the bulbs. vw has had recalls on other vehicles for a similar problem but this make and model was not included in previous recalls. perhaps the scope of the problem is wider than originally thought.

Driving home when exiting off to the hwy my jetta will flash the abs, brake and esc lights while beeping. took car to mechanic it was relayed that the abs module was bad. i refuse to take car to vw dealer because i already have issues with them about the erc valve and diesel fuel particulate filter (engine light constantly stays on) being 1 of the issues vw has admitted being faulty but still not doing anything about it. to get the abs fixed it's going to be over $2500 and the have the erc & diesel fuel particulate filter fixed is over $3000. each of these items are faulty and should be taken care of by the dealer with a cent paid from my pocket. both are life threatening faults that eventually could lead to my death or deaths of others. i have no choice as this is my sole source of transportation so i have to drive it. even though vw admits fault they are doing nothing to help except for offering "consolation" gifts - none will cover cost to fix car and get myself and others out of danger. vw needs to be held responsible.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen jetta. the contact stated that when the lock button was depressed on the key fobik, the front driver's side door failed to lock. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the locking mechanism failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000. the vin was unavailable.

Started the car and after about 5 minutes of driving, the engine shuts off but all electrical systems appear to be working. no trouble/ indicator lights come on. this has happened on the interstate traveling 70, on a side street traveling 35, and sitting idle at a stop light. every time, the car will run for between 5-7 minutes than not restart for 5-7 minutes. at attempts to restart inside that 5 minute window after the engine stalls, there is no turning over, no clicking or anything. there is no temp issues, or low fuel issues. this has happened on a full tank and a half tank also. *tr

The sun roof opened to the first tilt position without any action caused by the driver or passenger. it happened again on may 17 during a slow left turn in a shopping center. my concern is that it may be electrical in nature and may affect the door locks as well. on a previous occasion, i had difficulty opening the trunk and had to use my key to open the drivers side door.

I was approaching a red light when suddenly the abs brake light came on, followed by every light on my dashboard. my car stalled and came to a complete stop. fortunately i was in the right hand lane of a semi-busy street and was able to wait until my car started up again. had i been on the freeway with my two small children in the backseat, i have no doubt that this would have caused a serious accident or death. i was told that i need to replace my complete abs system. i have approximately 72,000 miles on this car and have serviced it regularly. there is no reason for a part which affects the electrical system and safety of the driver should go out this soon unless it is a defective part - period!!! i know that hundreds have experienced the same problem as me as i have read their complaints online. vw needs to immediately make the repairs necessary to correct this problem in order to make their vehicles safe to the public and before anyone is injured or dies. if vw ignores this problem, instead of dealing with repairs, vw will be dealing a class action suit. please take note, vw. *tr

I think there is an electrical problem with my car. since the beginning of this yr 2015 my seats burnt a hole threw the seat and my clothes. i no longer use the heated seats cause i am afraid my car will catch on fire. also my i have a light go out every time i replace a light. first a head light then a blinker light then a tail light next the licenses plate light and currently another front light. this has been over the last 6-8 mons.

The trunk lid of my 2009 vw jetta opens unexpectedly. it has happened while driving and while it is parked. this problem is intermittent and it is difficult to predict when it will occur. i will sometimes find it open when i am ready to drive in the morning. sometimes it will open immediately after starting the car. once it opened while i was entering a freeway ramp. luckily it has not yet happened while unattended during a rain or snowstorm ! yet the potential for danger is very real. finding a place to pull over to close a trunk lid while my rear vision is blocked can be a very dangerous scenario -- not to mention the security issues an open trunk lid raises. the vw dealer has attempted two fixes, once under warranty and another attempt on march 6, 2015 cost me several hundred dollars. the last incident occurred just this afternoon as i was returning to my car from the bank lobby. i'm scheduled for a third visit to the dealer tomorrow afternoon. i really don't want to be a throwing any more money at a safety and quality issue that should not occur and hope that you will be able to help me. thank you very much. *tr

The back door locks won't unlock, either from the outside or inside, with button or key. first it was the driver's side back door lock and now it is both back doors. i have contacted volkswagen and their answer is "sorry for the problem."

Was driving at 50mph car just shut off-returned on hazard lights pulled over -waited -had to wait one-two minutes before car would start. this happened three additional time going between 30-50 mph same day took it right into vw shop. shop diagnosed ignition problem and replaced it. *tr
