Frame rust so bad truck will not pass state inspection. this condition found on annual state inspection. from pics mechanic took, i am now afraid to drive vehicle. some attachment brackets/bars not even connected and rusted completely in half. i called toyota corporate and they said there was no recall on this vehicle nor any type of buy back program for it. sad that this truck was not repaired as this was a known issue with 2000-2003 tundras and now i am stuck with a vehicle that toyota will not repair due to age. seems this repair work should be available to any consumer who owns the vehicle if the recall work has never been performed on the vehicle? i am just second owner of vehicle and have only owned the vehicle just over a year. although high mileage, this truck runs and looks great.

This vehicle has two safety recalls but toyota refuses to address the issue because they say its too old of a recall. and it not a new vehicle.
Previously recalled rusted cross member dropped spare tire on massachusetts 495 hitting the vehicle behind me. 8/18 toyota inspected cross members and frame and told me they all needed to be replaced and since they already did it once during recall they have fulfilled obligation. truck recieved vehicle undercoating per campaign has had one crossember replaced and fuel straps. truck is one owner with 74k miles and garaged. truck inspected in 2014 and in 2017 noted no corrosion at multi point inspections from toyota. 8/14/18 dealership noted crossmembers had rot that must be welded at an outside shop. toyota dealership would not quote repair and not work on truck. have 2 children 3 and 5, wife and i need a safe resolution from toyota. the recommendation is repair at an outside shop for safety reason and i unable to find a shop to preform toyota's recommendation and they will not work on vehicle.
This vehicle was part of an earlier recall for corrosion of the frame and component parts. toyota replaced the frame along with a corroded leaking gas tank. approximately one week ago we noticed an oil leak from our rear differential. upon inspection by our local mechanic he determined the rear differential housing is corroded this causing a leak. this vehicle is known for its severe corrosion of frame and component parts. we discussed out concernes over the wide spread corrosion with corporate toyota when the frame was replaced. i contacted corporate toyota yesterday to discuss the current issue and was told they would only consider our claim after the vehicle was inspected by a toyota dealer at our cost. i was also informed that it was very unlikely that toyota would repair the vehicle because of the age. this vehicle is mechanically sound and we intend to keep it, however the corrosion issue is prematurely ending the life of the vehicle. i contacted the local toyota dealer and was told by the service manager that they have seen this issue and address it with spray on epoxy to stop the oil leak. they could not confirm that would work on our vehicle until they inspect it. we believe toyota should inspect the damage free of charge due to the known issue they have with corrosion. the brake component attached to the rear differential are also showing excessive corrosion and we are concerned these components will fail causing an accident.
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 toyota tundra. upon inspecting the vehicle, rust was noticed on the frame, cross member, and the fuel straps, which were extending to the fuel tank. the contact was concerned that the components could fracture. the dealer (cumberland toyota, 1540 interstate dr, cookeville, tn 38501, (931) 520-4149) indicated that the statute expired to receive the recall remedy and refused to repair the vehicle per nhtsa campaign number: 09v444000 (structure). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.
My 2000 tundra frame has rusted through to the point that it does not pass the va state inspection. there is a frame recall for tundras of this make and model, however my vin is not included in the recall for some reason. toyota says that nhtsa determines what vins are included. i have significant rust including holes in the frame as well as a sway bar on the front passenger side that has totally broken away due to rust. how can i get my truck included in the frame recall action as the current recalls for my vin only apply to the rear of the truck (not my failures) and only addresses putting a coating on the frame which will not address my issue. i am the original owner and the truck has been maintained in va throughout its life. i have recently (~1 year ago) also totally replaced all of the exhaust system at my own expense due to rust (nearly $4,000 worth of work). no frame should have this much rust issues unless there was a defect in the manufacturing process. my frame needs to be replaced to allow the truck to pass the va state inspection.
I have tried to get toyota to replace my frame for about maybe six years. i have taken and had the treatment around the spare tire on the frame treated, and over a couple of year all of the black colored treatment just feel off on my driveway in charleston wv where i lived at the time. i went back to love lexus and toyota to have my frame checked to see if they could replace it according to the settlement of the 2000-2003 tundra trucks.loves said my frame looked ok to them and they could not do anything at that time. this was about a year and a half ago. now my left front side of my frame has a hole in the under neath side of the frame and the strut bar is ripping away from the frame...i called and talked to alexus, and al , and a higher up man in the company named rob, they would not give me better i.d. than that, i told him this story as i'm sure his underling al did, that is why rob called me on aug 22nd and told me there were no avenues that he (rob) could see to help me.then i said would he help me trade for a newer truck and he (rob) said that would be up to me to do. my tundra is undriveable and i think toyota should fix it in the deal that was made for the 2000 to 2003 toyoya tundra trucks. what do i do to get some help. walk to whre i want to go? i am on disability and i have very bad conditions, and i don't make enough money to go buy a vehicle. i think if my vehicle meets their specs for repair my truck should be fixed!!!! i tried to find out the lawyers who won or settled this case and could not find any help in doing this? help from tony of huntington wv. thank you.

Vehicle was recalled due to holes in the frame. at 139080 miles toyota junctions inspected it and plugged hole and also sprayed the frame as a cover up, instead of replacing it. after 1000s of dollars of work done to alot of rust. we are now at 152000 miles and it is a total rust and holes thru out.
Severe frame rust, purchase truck from toyota dealer in 2015. toyota recall in nov. 2009 that ended 2012. i was told by the dealer truck was inspected in 2012 and pass. i have plenty of picture's but can't upload here.
My mechanic told me my frame is rusting horribly. there is a hole 6inch by 6 inch near the rear tire. he thought he heard of a recall about this. i only have 44,000 miles on the truck. purchased new, only had 1 mile on odometer. 12no major highway miles. i live 6 miles from work.

I was recently doing some routine repairs on my 2000 tundra and noticed the left rear frame rail & spare tire crossover has very severe rust damage. on 9/21/2011 this 2000 tundra was inspected for frame rust by a local toyota dealership. i asked the tech what was the method for inspection, he replied they would hit the frame with a hammer in three to four areas, if they were unable to punch a hole in the frame it passed inspection. the spare tire was not removed to inspect the spare tire crossover. the left rear frame area (where the worst damage is on my frame) is not accessible to hit with a hammer with the spare tire in place. toyota & the dealership is denying any responsibility in this matter. i believe that if this frame was in good shape in 2011 it should still be road worthy today (it is not) i know that i am not the only tundra owner that is having this problem. toyota needs to stand behind their products, they knew that these frames were going to continue to fail, i now have a truck with an above average body perfect interior and a well maintained drive train that is basically worthless. toyota should have been required to replace these frames when they discovered this problem. what will it take to resolve this problem injury or worse death? i have been driving toyota's since 1984, this is first time the frame failed before the rest of the vehicle. and now i hear the are having frame rust problems with later model tundra's & tacoma's. *tr
Rear brake line and proportioning valve failed causing the braking of the vehicle to be unsafe while driving on a local interstate roadway. the corrosion of the rear cross member is a known recall (see attached) nhtsa campaign id: 09v444000 recall date: 2009-11-18 which i just found today while searching for a proportional valve replacement part! our vin is showing 0 recalls, but this cannot be ignored due to a vin! due to the corrosion, special steps will need to be taken by the repair shop to even fix this problem. living in pennsylvania, driving on winding, steep hills is even more of a reason that this recall should not be vin specific. i am asking that the repairs needed to my vehicle (brake linings and proportional valve must be replaced!) be covered by the manufacturer recall that is still in place until 2019. component affected in this recall: structure: frame and members:underbody shields how can a specific vin be excluded when it poses a risk factor and possibility of a fatal crash! please help us reach out to the manufacturer to include this vin in the recall. *tr

The total frame is rusted with holes, was taken to local dealership due to recall of frame, and was told there is nothing they could do because toyota does not supply them with the chemicals nor the equipment to fix the issue, if i wanted it fixed to take it back to new jersey were it was originally purchased. this is a hazard to my teenage driver as well as others due to at any point the vehicle may break apart causing a crash/collision injuring someone potentially death. toyota has completely ignored all my concerns stating there is nothing they can do.
Recall for undercarriage, according to service personal my truck did not meet criteria to be replaced so all that was done was sand off rust and repaint. so now went for inspection and it will not pass it is unsafe to drive. so this was pure negligence on your part to not fix it properly so at this time i have the backing of my mechanic to pursue this issue to see that my truck get a new undercarriage which it should had from the start.
2000 toyota tundra fram rusted through in 3 areas. toyota dealership would not help with this
I sent a letter (attached) to the toyota dealership and to toyota motor corporation. this is toyota corporate's response. it is unbelievable that a major car company able to sell and service cars in the u.s. would respond in this fashion. there is a known issue. they didn't accept the required resultant action from the corrosion recall and remedy. they simply passed by treating the frame (path of least cost and effort) and did not act in good faith now they have a callous disregard for the safety and satisfaction of their patrons. the case manager did not see the vehicle himself or view the damage or have pictures prior to his response. below is their response: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ thank you for contacting toyota. below is a summary of your most recent email message received and our response. we appreciate the continued opportunity to be of service to you. subject 2000 tundra - severe frame concern discussion thread response via email (tiffany h.)02/15/2016 06:21 am dear o'dea: thank you for contacting toyota motor sales, u.s.a., inc. we are sorry to learn of your concerns regarding the frame on your 2000 tundra. we have confirmed your concerns were reviewed with a case manager and you were provided with toyota's position on 02/08/2016. your email has been documented at our national headquarters under case#1602050676. if we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us. sincerely, tiffany h. toyota customer experience center customer by web form (david o'dea)02/12/2016 02:28 pm

The frame was seriously rusting. toyota had a recall for this which was not notified to me via mail. one of the argument from toyota not to do this recall is that time window is over (at the same time one of their associate told that there is no time limit for a safety recall). the inspection department at the dealership was not including the damage on the frame in the inspection. in the recall for frame replacement, what i got replaced is the cable holding the spare tire only (safety issue that the tire may fall down) ignoring the serious hole and rust in the actual frame. here is the picture of my frame which the condition is clearly visible.
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 toyota tundra. while driving, the spare tire separated from the tire holder due to corrosion. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank straps and the subframe corroded. the dealer advised that the subframe repair was no longer available. the dealer replaced the fuel tank straps and the spare tire holder. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 113,000.
Purchased 2000 tundra in 2005. was made aware of a recall by toyota corp regarding rust issues with vehicle frame, gas tank strap, and spare tire fastener. i brought the vehicle to a local dealer december of 2012 for the frame inspection (tank strap and spare tire issue repaired on a separate date). i was told that a full inspection took place to include disassembling the bed of the truck. i was told that no perferations were found in the frame. a spray foam kit was used to treat the frame. on 8/25/15, i was attempting to sell my truck when a prospective buyer noticed (2) significant holes in the frame located just in front of the driver side tire. the entire frame appears to have significant rust considering it is only 15 years old. needless to say, a sale did not take place. i was fortunate to not be driving the truck with my family when a potentially catastrophic accident could have taken place. i contacted a local dealer (not the one that treated the frame). i spoke with the service manager. he stated that he would contact toyota corp but also stated that they may not replace the frame as it is 15 years old. he contacted me 2 days later stating that toyota would not replace the frame or buy the vehicle back. the frame recall i referred to was not a recall according to toyota. rather, it was a, "good will gesture" to consumers affected by the situation. the service manager did suggest to look into finding a welder to see if they could repair it. really?? mechanically, the vehicle is sound. i am left with scrap and out at least $4500 because i cant sell it the way it is. the important thing is that my family is still alive. what a sham. this is not right and they should be held accountable.

Hello, can you provide some direction regarding frame rust on my 2000 toyota tundra, ( vin# [xxx]) ? i have contacted the dealer where i purchased the vehicle (friedrick's located in lebanon , pa). this dealer has since changed ownership and thus their store name. the new dealer refused to help me with my recall. i cannot get my truck inspected due to extreme frame rust. my inspection mechanic found this rust damage and cannot by pennsylvania regulations, pass this truck for inspection. he alerted me to the fact that there is a recall from toyota, to repair such rust damaged frames. however in speaking with the dealer (formally frederick's of lebanon, pa), they refused to help me in this matter. my truck has less than 150,000 miles on it, in good condition except for the rust. if possible, please provide info where to have this recall work completed. regards. Rohrich toyota replaced the severely rusted frame on my 2000 tundra in 2009, only after nhtsa directed them to. rohrich toyota after telling me that per my vin i wasn't one of affected owners!? toyota replaced frame and brake lines as well as cross member in 2009. toyota then reattached rusted fuel line to new frame and now rust from old frame has caused the fuel line to leak severely. i called rohrich and toyota america and was denied remedy of replacing fuel line! i am a survivor of open heart surgery and my wife is a disabled diabetic amputee and we need our vehicle for dr's appointments and shopping etc... is there anything you can do to help and soon? Tl* the contact owns a 2000 toyota tundra. while changing the oil in the vehicle, the contact noticed that the entire frame underneath the vehicle was severely corroded. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician pulled the bed off and coated the back. the front was not treated. the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 toyota tundra. the contact stated that the vehicle frame had holes. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there was extreme rust and holes on the front area of the frame. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate mileage was 105,000.
I received a notice from toyota to have my frame reviewed for rust damage. this occurred in 2012, so i took the truck to my toyota dealer and was told after inspection that my truck showed no rust. i retained the paperwork indicating such. on 12/30/2014 i took my truck for an oil change and when the truck went up on the lift it actually broke in half. the shop had never seen anything like this and was amazed at the volume of rust internally and externally. i contacted my toyota dealer because i heard of these trucks being recalled for frame problems. they said they would not help me? please help me. i can't do anything with this truck? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 toyota tundra. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 09v444000 (structure). the contact stated that the vehicle was inspected and sprayed with a corrosion protection compound. however, the vehicle started to corrode. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 165,000.
This vehicle had a recall because of the excessive rusting of the frame. i brought my truck in march of 2013 and was told the frame didn't need to be replaced but only needed to be "under coated" which they did. shortly thereafter this "undercoating" started peeling off in large sheets. i brought the truck back to have it inspected and the local dealership confirmed that there was perforation of the frame. there is a hole in the frame approx. 2 inches in diameter. toyota called me back and i was told they had done what was required for the recall and they wouldn't be doing anything else. obviously this was a big enough concern that a recall was declared and it appears that toyota has taken the position that as long as they make a token effort it doesn't matter if they correct the problem. i pull a boat with this truck and am now concerned that if the frame fails it could cause a serious accident. *tr
The frame on my tundra is extremely rusted to the point where vehicle safety is becoming a concern of mine. it has very low miles for the year, and it is consistently getting worse and worse. *tr

I have a 2000 toyota tundra sr5 4wd. it was a vehicle that was sold and spent several years in pa. in 2010 my truck was taken into a toyota dealership in pa to have a frame rust inspection performed due to a toyota recall related to rust. at the time they replace fuel tank straps and found no other rust perforation on the frame.in 2014 there was still a growing amount of rust spreading in other areas of the frame. it was taken to toyota in raleigh, nc. service manager there at the time recommended a frame replacement due to excessive rust. no frame was ever ordered. now over two years later my truck still have the rust and then some on the frame. i cannot hang a spare tire in the rear due to the rust. the frame have 2 holes in it and is unsafe. toyota refuses to replace the frame even though it was recommended in 2014 and was still under the warranty period. i have called and called and have opened up a case with toyota for this issue. they still refuse to replace it no matter what i say and the proof of the damage as a result of poor quality on their part. the truck is unsafe and it should have a new frame under it. i was told by my case manager that since it had been inspected previously in 2010 that there is nothing they can do about the excessive rust that appeared in 2014. ridiculous!!!! the rust appeared. under warranty. needed a frame in 2014. unsafe. period!!!
