My car is burning excessive oil. the dealership claims they have never heard of such a thing; however, when researched online there is a pending class action lawsuit against toyota and there was also a service bulletin in 2011 advising the dealerships to remedy problem. at that time my car would have still been under warranty but since it is no longer under warranty the dealership refuses to cover it. they estimate cost between $4-6000. *tr
Excessive oil consumption. engine locked. after contacting toyota main hotline to alert them of the problem. they provided me with information to test the oli consumption and to take the results to the local dealership. after completing initial testing, the dealerhship informed me that it was not burning oil. the vehicle still was burning oll. toyota subsequently issued a notice that the vehicles were burning oil and that they would send a part to the dealerships to repair the problem. the dealership then informed me that they were waiting on the parts to correct the problem. the parts never arrived and now my engine has locked due to insufficient oil. i want to be made whole.
My 2007 toyota rav 4 is experiencing excessive oil usage which toyota knows is a problem with vehicles that has a 2az engine. it is believed that if the engine siezes due to this excessive oil usage for a vehicle that is in motion, the brakes and steering failure could cause loss of control and result in a crash. as such, i believe toyota should be forced to issue a safety recall to correct this issue immediately.
I have been having regular oil changes at my local aaa shop as scheduled for my 2007 toyota rav4. when my maintenance light came on i took it in to aaa within the next few days. i was told it had only been 3000 miles since my last oil change, but that there was only 1 qt. of oil left in the car. there were no leaks detected and they said the car was not smoking to indicate it was burning oil. two mos. later i took the car to my toyota dealership for an inspection sticker. i told them the car was running rough and to check it out. they replaced spark plugs and valve cover gasket. shortly thereafter i received notice from toyota about excessive oil use for my model. i took it in for the excessive oil consumption test. during the 1000 mi test it burned another quart and a half of oil. they disregarded my complaint about burning all but 1 qt. within 3000 mi. and said the consumption was normal. car continues to run rough.
Was experiencing and intermittent check oil light so i called to make an appointment to have it checked out. the day before the service appointment and driving on the garden state parkway, my engine slowed way down and lost almost all power. the engine started making a very loud noise and would only go about 30 mph. the next day the auto repair shop calls and informs me that i need a new engine. i went with a jasper rebuilt engine which still cost me $6,100 installed. *tr
I have been bringing my car to a local toyota dealership for maintenance and repairs for more than a year. during this period my car was covered under manufacturer's warranty. i've had my brakes repaired, several recalls tended to, and many oil changes performed. there was one occasion when i brought my car to a chain auto service store to have an oil change performed. it was at this chain that i was informed that the oil level in my car was dangerously low. i called the local toyota dealership that i usually bring my car to for maintenance and repairs and was told that they needed to perform an oil consumption test on my car. i brought my car to the dealership on three separate occasions so that they could perform the test. on the final test day i was told that my car was indeed losing abnormally excessive amounts of oil and that the first step to remedying the matter would require taking the engine apart. at this point my manufacturer's warranty has expired and i am now relying on my extended warranty. after researching the problem, i found that the excessive loss of oil in cars like mine is a issue that toyota is very familiar with. in 2011, toyota issued a technical service bulletin acknowledging the problem. the toyota dealership which serviced my car never told me this even though they were aware of the problem. the dealership has told me that the extended warranty may decide not to cover the cost of repair after the engine has been removed and taken apart at which point i would be responsible for paying for the repairs. however, if the repair needed to be done when my car was under manufacturer's warranty, then why didn't the toyota dealership repair it? the tsb was issued in 2011 and i began bringing my car to them in 2012. i should not have to pay to have my car repaired. *tr
I was told that my rav4 was very low on oil and that i should have it looked at. though i usually have my oil changed at the toyota dealership, they never mentioned anything to me about low levels of oil in my car. i learned about the low level of oil when i took my car to a chain to have the oil changed. however, the people at toyota have been aware of this problem since 2011. i mentioned the issue to the toyota dealership and they have me return on three separate occasions for oil consumption tests. now my car has exceeded the manufacturer's warranty and toyota has informed me that my extended warranty may not cover the cost of repairs even though the car was under manufacturer's warranty before the problem was pointed out to me. i was also informed today that it could cost me $1100-$1200 just to have to engine taken apart. the cost of repairing the vehicle will increase if they take it apart and the problem isn't covered by my extended warranty. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota rav4. the contact stated that the oil warning indicator illuminated and oil was leaking from the vehicle. the contact mentioned that the vehicle was not due for an oil change until another 600 miles. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the technician was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure and placed the vehicle under a 1,000 mile oil consumption test. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 62,000. updated 10/30/14*cn updated 7/9/2015*js
My 2007 toyota rav4 started to consume copious amounts of oil. there are no signs of oil leakage and no smoke from the exhaust pipe. i always have the oil changed at a toyota dealer since i purchased the car new. after my recent oil change, i drove approximately 1,500 miles and had to put in 2 quarts of oil. i assumed this was a fluke and toyota did not fill the oil up. but now again, i drove another 1,500 miles and this time it was bone dry on the dip stick. i did not receive a low oil light. i added another 2 quarts of oil to bring it up to the bottom line. *tr
Just after oil change, about one week later and having driven about 500 miles, oil was already one quart low. since then it varies, but it burns more oil than any car i've ever owned. on average i need to add 2-4 quarts of oil between oil changes, which i perform every 3000 miles. my concern is that the oil consumption will progressively get worse. an obvious defect here somewhere. *tr
The external oil pressure line to the rear cylinder head busted while driving on the interstate. this caused the engine to completely dump all 6 quarts of motor oil onto the highway. fortunate for me i was only 0.8 miles from an exit with a safe parking lot. i do not know if the oil from my vehicle caused any wrecks on the interstate, however the potential for a motorcycle wreck or any vehicle that had to make a sudden slow down or quick maneuver would be at a high risk of an accident. not only did this put my engine at risk for catastrophic failure, but it could have been completely avoided. toyota is not only aware of this problem but have procedures in place to fix the hose when it ruptures. its not a matter of if the hose will rupture, but when will the oil hose rupture. if i had been informed of the need to replace the hose i would have gladly have had the hose replaced. the least toyota should do is send every owner of this type of engine with this typed of hose a letter explaining what could possibly happen and what they need to do to prevent this very preventable problem. *tr
Third such incident -- two previous in late 2009 -- backing up slowly in parking lot, engine suddenly started to race. i threw the gear shift into neutral, stepping on brake at the same time. engine continued to race for several seconds (seemed like an eternity); racing finally stopped when i released brake and tapped the brake pedal. *js
Vehicle idling and beginning to overheat due to bad water pump at 47,500 miles. toyota says this is not a warranty issue. if vehicle overheated, could cause fire. *tr
The oil light blinked on. i was down below a quart on my 2007 rav4. this is the second time this happened to me. the first time the car was only 5 years old. toyota performs its engine consumption test and says the vehicle is operating within toyota specifications yet this is the second time this has happened. i will never buy another toyota vehicle. *tr
Oil changed at toyota dealership at 83036 miles. at 87750 miles, oil light started to flicker and engine started smoking due to low oil soon after. added 3 quarts of oil and had oil changed at toyota dealership on 6/30/14 at 87829. continued to check and add oil-next routine oil change: 11/19/14 at 93035 miles at toyota dealership. within a few months, car was struggling up hills and sounding like it would stall. emergency oil check-low oil at 94709 miles. local mechanic had to assist to prevent further damage to vehicle. received an "excessive oil consumption" notice from toyota on 2/6/15. protocol to address malfunctioning engines is to have toyota verify "excessive oil consumption". customer must pay for oil change in order to begin process, regardless of past evidence to support claims of excessive oil consumption. dangerous, faulty issues with engines should not be the drivers' responsibility to prove. especially when the owner has maintained all records to demonstrate proper care of the vehicle. *tr
We returned from a trip to reno/california in my toyota rav 4. i had decided to wait until i returned to change oil since there was only about 3000 or less on the last change,. when we returned and nearing our destination, the oil light came on. in checking the oil, no oil showed on the dipstick. i took the car in for service including changing the transmission oil (about $600 ). a couple of weeks later, i checked the oil and it was down 1 1/2 quarts. i now still have about 2000 miles to go before my car needs another oil change and it was again low and another quart was added. per my research i find that toyota has known about this problem and sent out info to dealers in 2011 to fix the problem if it is still under warranty. according to what i've read, it requires a piston to be replaced. toyota has totally ignored this problem and i find that it seems to be common on rav4's. *tr
V6 engine makes a rattle noise at startup. it has been identified by the dealer as the vvt camshaft gear. toyota has a technical service bulletin (t-sb-0094-09) identifying the cause as the intake or exhaust camshaft vvt assembly. however the lexus division of toyota has a recall for this exact problem on is and gs models (reference nhtsa campaign number: 13v395000). the consequence is that the loose bolts could cause the vvt gear housing and sprocket to separate and result in the engine stopping while the vehicle is being driven, increasing the risk of a crash. if this is dangerous enough to cause a crash for a lexus customer, then why isn't this dangerous enough to issue a recall for a toyota customer. these are the same motors and the customers should be treated as such. *tr
The engine oil consumption is excessive in my rav4. it is using about a quart or more per 1,000 miles. the toyota dealer says this is normal oil consumption for this engine. i see many other reports of this same problem being reported on this web site and other owners receiving the same response from their toyota dealers nationwide. this is not routine and will cause unexpected engine failure and/or engine seizing. *js
The car unexpectedly accelerated as i was approaching a red traffic light. my foot was on the brake to slow down when the car's engine revved up and the car kept moving forward with my foot on the brake pedal as far as it could go. the car finally stopped about 6 feet into the intersection. the next morning the car repeated the unexpected acceleration while i was trying to slow down prior to stopping for a stop sign. the driver's side floor mat was removed two or three years ago and was not present that evening or the next morning. i reported this episode to the toyota dealer and i told him i was afraid to drive the car. the dealer told me the car was out of warranty, but if i wanted have to car towed to the dealership, he would have to technicians check it for historical record of the episode. i was also told i was responsible for towing charges and the cost of the diagnostic analysis. the computerized diagnostic check showed nothing had happened and nothing was wrong with the car. i told the dealer the i was not impressed with the diagnostic test device, as the acceleration did happen and the test set was obviously not checking the source of the problem. i called toyota customer service telephone number is torrance california, told them my story and asked if toyota had received any other such complaints. i was told that toyota could not release that information. i asked what toyota did with my report of the problem. i was told it went into a toyota data base. i asked for a copy of rav4 episodes in the data base. i was told toyota could not furnish that to me. i then asked for a copy of my report that toyota entered into the data base. toyota told me it could not furnish that to me. toyota seems to discredit reports of this acceleration/safety issue as if it could not possibly happen. *tr
Well-maintained 2007 rav4 (67k miles, no issues in the past) stalled completely while driving 50 mph. nearly got rear ended as hazard flasher lights did not work at all. all power cuts off to inside of car. once fan in engine turns off (about 6 minutes) car can start again. dealership said "dirty throttle body part" so they cleaned it. happened 2nd time the next week! then dealership replaced entire throttle body assembly. happened 3rd time the following week! it's at dealership again now. each time it happens, car is driving and once about 6 minutes passes, i can drive again. barely have time to get near the shoulder of road. *tt
Excessive oil consumption due to bad piston rings installed at time of manufacture. toyota believes 1 quart per 1,000 miles is acceptable and will not cover repair unless use is over that limit. *tr
92,564 miles 12/05/13 had oil change. sometime after that oil change, but before next scheduled oil change oil light came on and took car to dealer to check. they topped off oil and instructed me to come back in 1000 mile intervals to do consumption tests. i followed their direction and came back for several consumption tests. they topped off oil i believe one time for quart one time for quart. they informed me this was ?normal oil consumption per toyota specs for this engine? and that i no longer needed to come in for tests. 96,546 miles 3/19/14 had oil change, there was no mention of oil levels. 99,434 miles 5/23/14 oil light came on, took car immediately to dealer, was told ?vehicle had a quart of oil left: it has been 3,000 miles since last oil change. this is normal technician topped off oil. the oil light has not come back on since this time. 101,628 miles 7/23/14 went in for oil change. no mention of oil levels. was told to top off oil half way through till next scheduled maintenance. after around 2500 miles checked oil and added 3 quarts of oil, checked again before going in for 5000 mile oil change and added 2 quarts. 106,232 miles 11/06/14 went in for oil change insisting that this can not be "normal" oil consumption need to have the engine checked out. dealer recommending that we do consumption tests again. being told that anything that needs to be done to address oil problems will not be covered under warranty. *tr
We have noticed excessive oil useage. the vehicle is using appoximately 2 quarts of oil every 1,000 miles. the vehicle has approximately 142,000 miles on it. *tr
This car has started to burn oil excessively--around 1 quart for every 600 miles. it has had its oil changed every 5000 miles since it was brand new, along with all recommended service at the recommended intervals at the dealer. has around 110,000 miles on it. *tr
My 2007 toyota rav 4 experienced some heavy knocking on friday nov. 29th. i took it into kost tire and muffler in clark summit, pa to have then take a quick look at it. they said the engine was full of oil at the time. i drove it approximately 8.5 miles after leaving kost before deciding to have it towed to the toyota dealership in scranton on sunday. on monday morning toyota said the car arrived with no oil. how could this be? there was no oil in the kost parking lot, in my driveway or on the tow truck bed ( can be verified by all sources). if the car were to have spilt a full engine of oil there would have been some kind of evidence(burning smell, sight of lost oil, car smoking -but there was nothing). toyota has denied the warranty claim due to what they say is lack of engine lubrication. this is absolutely bogus. after reading some online blog i have seen a number of other customers who own 2007 rav4's who have had the same exact problem. *tr
My son was driving home from work when the car stopped performing properly. shaking and no acceleration. he had to reduce speed and wave people past him on a 2-lane road. i took the car to the mechanic, the next day with the same difficulty. drove with hazard lights on. my mechanic reported the car had less than 1 quart of oil, and the engine was blown. i felt that was not possible. never any oil in driveway. oil had been changed within last 4 months and 4000 miles. the car has less than 63000 miles and has been maintained. the check engine oil light never came on. it makes no sense. cost for new engine is $7,000. i did some research. google "toyota oil consumption issue". numerous reports of the exact same issue. toyota even has a service bulletin t-sb-0094-11 that describes this very issue for this very make and vin. only it isn't a recall, and unless you are a dealer service center you do not receive the bulletin. so unfortunately, the way toyota is handling this, you learn about this issue only after the car gives out. this is outrageous. my 18 year old daughter used this vehicle to drive to school every day! with my 16 and 13 year old sons as passengers! it is plain luck that the car didn't give out while she was driving them all in rush hour morning traffic. this engine defect is all well documented. it seems like toyota is ducking and dodging responsibility for a defect they acknowledged in their very own service bulletin? how is this possible? *updated 12/17/13
Car is consuming oil, consumes most engine oil in a 1,000 miles. oil check reveals no oil without any warning oil light. the engine could fail while driving without notice. this is a known problem with 2007 toyota rav 4s. there should be a recall. brought it to the dealer and they did not disclose this known problem. *tr
Oil light flashed on then went off. stopped at a gas station to check oil, there was none in the tank and i had had an oil change less than 1,500 miles prior to this incident. i added 3 quarts of oil to my engine and not 3 weeks later, had to add 2 more quarts because it was empty again! upon further research as to why this keeps happening, i found that this is a common problem with rav4's model years 2006-2008, and that toyota is aware of the problem. however, even though they know this is a problem, they are stating that the oil consumption is within toyota's acceptable limits! how can that be? a car should not go through 3 quarts of oil in 3 weeks! also, toyota is stating that the only fix for this is to either replace the engine or do a complete engine rebuild to the tune of $5,000-$7,000!! for a car that has less than 80,000 miles on it! if they are aware of the issue, why do they continue to let it be ok? this is a major safety concern that should not be happening to vehicles this young. luckily it hasn't been for me yet, but for others it has, and toyota should do their part to fix a defect in their engine design. *tr
My rav4 has been consuming lots of engine oil lately and i have to get the oil refilled for couple of months this year before its service is due. on 10/18/13, the check engine oil warning light again started so i took it to get the oil refilled and the service guy told me to bring it back after a week so we can check the oil level again. so it took it back on 10/26/13 and was surprised to find that my rav4 had burned i quart oil in just 8 days. i don't know what to do. i read similar reviews in edmunds website regarding this engine oil issue with rav4 models. is there any solution? my warranty has expired and i am the only owner of this vehicle. *tr
Excessive engine oil consumption. did oil consumption test at toyota and they said there's no problem but still oil runs dry after 3k miles. took it to another non toyota service center for second opinion and was told that i had two options: to replace the entire engine at a cost of $5k or to live with it and check oil level weekly and refill it yourself if oil level is low. also recommended using 10w40 oil due to high mileage. i chose the latter and so far going good. really not happy with toyota dealers response as they were hesitant to help and kept telling me to change the entire engine that would cost me $$$ since my warranty expired.
This car has started to burn oil excessively--around 1 quart for every 600 miles. it has had its oil changed every 5000 miles since it was brand new, along with all recommended service at the recommended intervals. *tr
i have just experienced sudden acceleration while pulling into a parking spot. i slammed on the brake and it didn't want to stop. i ended up bumping the car in front of me as i continued to brake. the engine was still surging and wouldn't go into reverse. i called mountain states toyota here in denver and explained the problems to the service manager. he told me that he had never heard of such a thing. there are numerous complaints with the same issue on the internet. the service manager, of course, is telling me that if they cannot reproduce it and it is not showing error codes(which it isn't) there isn't anything they can do. i told him i wanted the acceleration system thoroughly inspected...which he wants to charge me for unless they do find an issue. by what i have seen on the internet, it is useless to take it in as toyota is ignoring the issue, thinking they fixed it with the floor mats. i had the floor mats replaced on that recall well before this issue came up. i have also had many experiences with the engine surging and hesitating with the tach showing the surge. it is intermittent and cannot be reproduced, but it is getting worse over time. i now believe that this is related to the acceleration issue i described above. i am afraid to drive it now as it could happen on a busy street and really hurt someone and me. *tr
My wife noticed oil lite came on and went off in a split second . after that the car shut off car was checked no oil . motor blew up . called toyota and refused to do anything . had to put a jasper engine in. cost out of pocket $4990.00 and $1000.00 to install new engine . i believe with all the other reveiws with the same problem and poor engine design toyota needs to pay for the engine that customers had to pay out of pocket . i have my paper work for proof and mechanic also . if any info on this please email me asap [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Contacted toyota about low engine oil and they said that the engine needed to be replaced. the service rep called it internal engine failure and seemed very familiar with the problem. they said that it was not part of a recall. i expected alot more than 100000 miles out of this car before a major repair like this. *tr
This car is burning (not leaking) oil. i got my oil changed (at 3000 mile interval) today and the mechanic says there was almost no oil left in the engine. my last oil change was 3 months ago and i noticed the same problem then. *tr
Excessive oil consumption as described in t-sb-0094-11. had all service done at toyota dealer since 2007! this is a known defect and now the dealer wants me to pay for the removal and replacement of the pistons and piston rings - totally unacceptable! *js
Driving down a freeway when a loud clunking sound came from the engine, had to pull over and had the car towed. and as it ends up the rav4, which had every single service on time and without problems, had somehow burned up all it's engine oil and caused thousands of dollars of damage to my engine. the service department at the toyota dealer refuse to explain how this could happen to a perfectly healthy car and refuse to acknowledge this exact problem in hundreds of other 2007 rav4's. in addition, they fail to take responsibility for this obvious fault of theirs and continue to put their "valued" customers in danger as this could have resulted in a serious accident. i am being told that the engine was left with only 1/2 quart of oil from the previous service which was 4 mos prior to this which caused the engine to be destroyed. i have no idea, and am being kept in the dark, about why the engine lost oil. *tr
I have a 2007 toyota rav4 i bought it on 06/21/11 used with 51,251 miles in excellent shape in a holler dealer i purchased an extra insurance from toyota dealer which promised free oil change, about 4 months ago i did a regular check i checked the oil to my surprise there was no oil i put 2 and a half quarts of oil in the vehicle i find it weird or rare this situation but i did nothing at the time so on 11/26/13 i checked it again no oil and what's amazing is the light never came on like the first time. i started researching the oil consumption to my shock i find that the toyota rav4 2006-2008 have a problem that was traced to the piston assembly and rings. i also found out a lot of complaints about the same situation with other owners with a toyota rav4 i believe this should be a problem toyota should be responsible for and fix this issue i also ask for someone to investigate the toyota dealer the type of oil they use to replace the oil since once i smelled the oil from the dipstick it smelled not normal like it should in conclusion i ask this issue to be handled with immediately. *tr
This vehicle is using almost 2 quarts of oil every 5000 miles. i have checked on the internet, and there is a rash of complaints on this toyota rav4 - 4 cylinder engine. it seems that most of them are using oil. toyota should be doing something about this. *tr
Oil light came on. i stopped and checked the oil, and it was bone dry. it was down 3 quarts of oil. the car burns approximately a quart of oil per 1000 miles. *tr
My 2007 rav4 has 95,000 miles. my oil light has been going on and off when stopping. i took it to my mechanic 1200 miles before the indicated oil change and it was low on oil. he replaced the pcv valve. i am not hopeful after reading all of the comments on line. *tr
Subject vehicle has burned excessive oil between oil changes - roughly every 3,500 to 4,000 miles, starting at approximately 45k miles. between oil changes it is not unusual to put in two to three quarts of oil. driver carries at least one quart of oil in vehicle at all times to hopefully preclude engine seizure. oil pressure light flickered one time and driver pulled over to discover oil level was down nearly two full quarts less than 2,000 miles after an oil change. *js
My 2007 toyota rav4 was being driven by my wife and she noticed indicator lights suddenly coming on the dashboard and the vehicle sputtering and starting to stall. prior to the vehicle stalling, she noticed the power steering inoperable and she was having difficulty steering to bring the vehicle to the shoulder lane and to a stop. she called me and i called for emergency roadside assistance. the vehicle was restarted. at this time, as the engine ran, the power steering was still inoperable and the vehicle was undrivable. it was then towed home. my mechanic checked and found the battery to be undercharged due to a defective alternator not properly charging the battery. the battery and the alternator was replaced and the power steering and all other functions resumed back to normal. my safety concern is that the power steering unit should not have stopped functioning as long as the engine was in operation. if the braking system continued to operate normally as the engine ran, the power steering unit should also continue to operate so that the driver can stay in complete control of the vehicle. if my wife was traveling at a higher rate of speed and on a busy interstate freeway, the outcome could have been disastrous. please look into getting toyota to recall and correcting this safety issue on mine and other 2007 rav4s. thank you for your assistance. a reply would be greatly appreciated. *tr
This model toyota has a record of stuck oil rings causing excessive oil consumption which leads to failure of engine and catalytic converter. see new york times oct 14,2011 and the hundreds of on line complaints about using one quart of oil every 1 k miles. in april of this year my dealer did a complete check with oil change, in june the oil was down one quart and in september i did another oil change with only two quarts of oil left in the pan when it takes 4-1/2 quarts. i took my rav 4 to the dealer(11-23-2013) i bought it from and without looking at it i was told the oil rings get stuck and i need an engine repair for $2,660 plus tax and most likely a new catalytic converter for $2,500. i had them check it out and i got a written document with the repair that is needed documented. this "needs" to be a recall item. if a car doing 70mph has an engine failure due to loss of oil then the person will loose steering and brake control leading to a serious accident and most likely death. toyota did two recalls on my car in april, door switch needed a drop of oil and rear suspension needed to be re-torqued. made a big deal out of what cost pennies to fix. now a $2,660 engine repair and we need to go to small claims court of class action suit or plead to you to help us get this a recall item. *tr
Engine burns up a quart of oil about every 1,000 miles. the engine oil warning light doesn't come on until car has almost burned up every bit of oil. toyota won't fix it because it is out of warranty and there is no recall. *tr
The car is burning oil and at a rapid pace. my dealer states that it is not burning fast enough to warrant any factory repair. i have to carry oil and check frequently. 60,000 miles now. two days ago, i thought i saw the oil light flash, it only is a quick flash. i decided to check the oil, it took 4 quarts. no warning except one extremely rapid flash so fast that you're not sure if you saw it. and the car was down four quarts! the oil was put in by a mechanic who couldn't believe it. i should not have to live in fear of the engine seizing up because it has run out of oil. i get my oil changed every 3000 miles as recommended but this car burns oil at an unusual rate. i should not have to check the oil every day but it seem i have no choice. a car with this low mileage should not be burning oil at this rate. toyota insists that this is normal. if so, then at least have an indicator that shows oil level. not when it is in dire need to oil. *tr
The car sputters as though it will stall or break down. this occurs during acceleration. it is especially noticeable when driving up a hill, but it occurs randomly. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota rav4. the contact stated that the engine oil warning light illuminated briefly. the contact inspected the engine and found that the engine oil had been consumed prematurely. the dealer inspected the vehicle and was unable to locate a leak in the engine area. the dealer was also going to perform an oil consumption test. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 86,069.
Excessive oil use uses 1 qt every 1500 miles toyota is aware the problem - has released a technical service bulletin - but no warranty coverage i even ran a oil consumtion test with the toyota dealer to prove it - but dealer claims this is exceptable. *tr
Over the last few years. my 07 rav4 has been using excessive oil. thought it was a leak from below. but no drip on driveway was visible. no signs of a leaks. when the oil was changed, over the course of the years. their is very heavy blow-by when the engine is running and the oil filler cap is removed. couple of mechanics have said, this is incorrect. *tr
