We have classified the 116 complaints from 2007 Toyota RAV4 about SUSPENSION into the following categories.
Toyota has been claiming i have no open recalls and i learn i have two. they can not locate my vin to remedy my issues ... since i've own the vehicle in three states, and again now here in wisconsin. my vehicle body is literally falling apart (on its own!) and i can't repair it or get recalls rectified. it's a 2007 with under 70k mikes! i paid for an extended warranty and they did nothing but oil changes which i paid for.

After processing the safety recall on the rear tie rods which control the toe of the wheels, i drove 20k miles and then needed to do another alignment on the rear of the car. the toe of both wheels are out of adjustment to the left bringing the car's steering out of alignment and causing premature tire wear. according to toyota, as the safety recall process was to cap the toe adjuster bar on the rear tie rods and fill them with epoxy, the only way to fix this was to replace the tie rods and repeat the safty recall but this time they would charge me $720 dollars. so even though this part has had several safety recalls on it and that the final solution by toyota was to hold it together with glue. they are not willing to stand behind their product and figure out a long term solution that allows for the car to retain its original ability to do a proper alignment.
My vehicle was one of approximately 750,000 vehicles involved in toyota's 2013 csj safety recall. however, it was excluded from the august 2016 gov safety recall, as were about 420,000 other vehicles. according to toyotatalk.com, since so many of these rav4s were excluded from the g0v safety recall which calls for mandatory replacement of the rear suspension arm mounting hardware, this means there are hundreds of thousands of affected rav4 vehicles on american highways with either: 1. potentially rusting and/or corroding mounting hardware for the rear suspension arm that has not been replaced 2. the inability to have a rear wheel alignment which could lead to dangerous tire wear the title of the article on toyotatalk.com is "the defective toyota rav4 tube-style rear suspension arm." it was posted on april 28, 2018. here is the link: https://toyotatalk.com/defective-rav4-suspensions/ on november 5, 2018, the owner of dinsmore tire in morgantown, west virginia, informed me that one of the tires on the rear had uneven rear. he cited a mechanical defect with the vehicle as the reason why. he stated that if it becomes necessary to submit a warranty claim on my vehicle's tires purchased there, that the tire with uneven wear would be excluded. a photo of that tire accompanies this complaint. in the interest of safety, on november 9, 2018, aftermarket rear suspension arms were installed on my vehicle. the installation was paid by me out of pocket. a redacted copy of the receipt accompanies this complaint. since recalls are vin specific, toyota has nothing of substance to say about these concerns. be that as it may, a complaint was filed with toyota on november 5, 2018. i am very disappointed with toyota and its lack of action. it is my deepest hope that something can be done to resolve this problem.
We had recall gov on my toyota rav4 on 1/18/18 81000 miles. at this time i also had new front struts and rear shocks installed with a front and rear alignment. then 8000 miles later after the fix in october i noticed excessive tire wear. i took the vehicle in for new rear brakes and an alignment. at that time we were told that they could no longer perform a rear alignment due to this recall "fix" that permanently sealed it into one place. we were told that in order to get the car back into alignment, we would have to replace the entire rear toe bar. my car was manufactured with an adjustable rear tie rod, and toyota's solution to an engineering flaw is to make the rear tie rod no longer adjustable, thus costing the consumer hundreds of dollars to fix a simple alignment issue. it is not feasible or fair to expect the consumer to pay hundreds of dollars for an alignment issue, when toyota created the issue with their "fix" instead of creating a replacement rear toe that is adjustable like the car was manufactured with when i purchased it. this fix has created a new safety issue with tire ware and handling issues. before the fix i was experienced neither of these issues.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota rav4. while washing the vehicle, the contact noticed that the rear tires were worn. the contact mentioned that the rear tires were replaced six months prior to the failure being noticed. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired by lithia toyota of klamath falls (2675 washburn way, klamath falls, oregon 97603) per nhtsa campaign number: 16v596000 (suspension); however, the replacement part utilized by the dealer had no adjustment ability, which wore out the rear tires in a short period of time due to no alignment. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 135,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota rav4. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 16v596000 (suspension) by koons toyota (1107 west st, annapolis, md 21401). the contact stated that the remedy prevented the rear tires from realigning without replacing the entire suspension arm. the dealer stated that the contact would have to pay to remedy the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and opened case number: 1802022112. the failure mileage was 190,698.
We continue to encounter resistance with capitol toyota, 783 auto group ave ne, salem, or 97301 (503) 399-1011 scheduling an appointment for the recall on our vehicle. they tell you they are reviewing your file and will get back to you and refuse to schedule. we've encountered this same tactic with this dealer on past recall notices.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota rav4. while driving 45 mph, there was a loud noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. the noise occurred without warning. the vehicle was taken to toyota of rock hill (640 galleria blvd, rock hill, sc 29730) where it was diagnosed that the rear differential coupling needed to be replaced. the dealer stated that the warranty was expired. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted at 888-270-9371 and stated that nothing could be done. a case number was not provided. the approximate failure mileage was 141,203.
This vehicle had the rear suspension arm recall (nhtsa 16v596000) . when the dealership did the recall they sealed the parts in epoxy, the car is out of alignment again in less than i year. i took it back to the dealership and was being told that it will cost $700 to get the alignment done. the suspension has to be replaced because of the epoxy. this is not covered under the one year warranty of the recall. toyota should be paying for this since they did not correct the issue properly during the recall and now the car can not have rear wheel alignments. i cannot get a routine alignment because of the epoxy used during the recall. this is outrageous.
The recall on the rear suspension epoxied the bar in place. now it is not possible to do an alignment. tires are wearing unevenly and vsc light is on all the time.
This vehicle has had the rear control arm recall that seals the part in epoxy, making rear toe adjustment impossible. this vehicle is out of tolerance on rear toe and will cost $685 to repair. toyota should be paying for this since they rendered the suspension part non adjustable.
In late summer/early fall 2016 my 2007 toyota rav4 began experiencing rear suspension, alignment, and tire wear problems associated with the toyota recall at the time, although my car was not included in the recall. when my mechanic examined the car, he said it made no sense that toyota's solution in their second suspension recall was to epoxy pieces in place and not allow the vehicle's suspension to adjust to movement on the road while driving. i had to argue with the dealership who sold the car to get them to make the proper repairs (perform the recall work on my car) at no charge to me. the damaged ruined my relatively new tires and i had to get another set. recently during general servicing, my mechanic discovered the same tire wear problem and that the rear tires are severely tilting inward, and the most recent repair by the dealer was done using a solid tie bar. in my mechanic's professional opinion (he's been in business for several decades and does contract work for a government entity), that kind of repair should not have been done with that piece of equipment because it would lead to the failure and damage i'm experiencing again. if the same recall "fix" that was performed on my car is being performed on all others that were part of the 3rd recall and beyond, other vehicles may be in danger of failed parts that could cause loss of steering, as noted per previous recalls. i have reached out to the dealer, district manager, and danica sorenson at toyota without success. my claim is being denied despite the evidence of an ongoing suspension problem. when you look at my car, the improper tilt of the tires and irregular tread wear are visible to the naked eye. my car will no longer pass inspection due solely to the tire damage.
Found by mail about rakata air bags, and my service for oil, filter was called by repair shop, time for service, finish the car service , before lived i ask a question about, the recall and he look the screen, took 30 seconds (flahs) and says, you car, don't have any recall, why? no im curious, what about the rear suspension arm 1, and heard about seat belts, safety recall, and most of info.still in chinese or japanes, and some one put new but como n they look cheap and have a tacoma totally dif. found 11 recalls, now trasmission aut, burn out,at 100000 miles, sorry but look like the repair shops don't care about "us" the want to sell carts, but make a ot of mistakes and we pay to get kill in car accident, cause defect of factury, they fixed the cars, but life and few thurs and dlls don't return wifes, sons, husband, gone so why cars companies are in so much in a hurry not easy to pay a loan of 60,000 in 5 years, and 3 years later want you to leave the car and again, and again, aain by t m, pas,ca #1
My 2007 toyota rav 4 was taken to northern lakes auto in hayward wi for an alignment, at which we were told that the rear toe was out of alignment and needed to be looked at by the dealer. the recall work done in 2014 at a toyota dealer in colorado springs co involved applying an epoxy that made this part no longer adjustable. on 7/28/17, the vehicle was taken the toyota dealer, which failed an alignment check at the rear toe. we were told that they could no longer perform a rear alignment due to this recall "fix" that permanently sealed it into one place. we were told that in order to get the car back into alignment, we would have to replace the entire rear toe bar for a cost of 600 dollars. we contacted the corporate office and were offered nothing to fix this issue. my car was manufactured with an adjustable rear tie rod, and toyota's solution to an engineering flaw is to make the rear tie rod no longer adjustable, thus costing the consumer hundreds of dollars to fix a simple alignment issue. it is not feasible or fair to expect the consumer to pay hundreds of dollars for an alignment issue, when toyota created the issue with their "fix" instead of creating a replacement rear toe that is adjustable like the car was manufactured with when i purchased it. the car is wearing out the tires in the rear cupping both of them on the outside and inside, and this is a safety issue to me and my wife and my 14 year old daughter. i was forced to pay kari toyota $500 to fix this issue and apply the epoxy again to parts that are to be adjustable and now are not....i would like to be rembersed for this a mount ....why should the i the owner pay for toyotas bandaid incorrect fix?
Toyota refused to have the rear tires of my car be aligned. since i submitted this car for that rear lower control arm recall, i always have issues with rear tire misalignment which toyota offered no remedy. i believe driving a misaligned wheels is a safety issue.

Received notice last fall (aug 2016) about an "urgent safety recall" on my rav4 - the recall # is 16v-596. toyota dealers still haven't received the parts for this recall! the recall notice states that the suspension arms could separate resulting in loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash! why do they issue a recall if they don't have the parts to fix it 9 months later??
I filed a complaint on april 18, 2017 (no. 10979057). this a follow-up. since the recall notice was issued, toyota has done nothing to honor it. can toyota evade their responsibility indefinitely?
Nhtsa #16v-596: received notification sept. or oct 2016 and have been checking w/ dealer since. still waiting for parts. 4/18/17 called toyota and was told june 3017. not holding my breath. meantime rear alignment is incorrect following previous lower control arm encasement in epoxy and can't be corrected. tires wearing improperly while waiting for toyota.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 toyota rav4. while driving various speeds, there was an unknown noise underneath the driver side of the vehicle. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 112,000.
Toyota issued a recall for the rear suspension and subsequently repaired my vehicle; however, the fix is inadequate. after the rear suspension arm (tie rod) is epoxied into a fixed position, the rear tires can no longer be realigned without replacing the entire suspension arm. this fix is inadequate and places undue financial burdens on the rav4 owners.
There have been two safety recalls on the rear lower suspension arms of 2006 to 2011 toyota rav 4s. i had both recall remedy procedures performed on my vehicle. the second recall remedy involved sealing the adjustable suspension arms with an epoxy which makes them non-adjustable in the future. i had this performed 6/4/14. this remedy also renders the rear wheels unable to be aligned. therefore, if the rear wheels go out of alignment, the rear suspension has to be replaced. so instead of a $60 alignment charge, the customer is now subject to a $480 replacement charge every time their car needs realignment. i put new tires on my car on 12/19/2014. on 1/1/17, my mechanic noticed outer edge tire wear on both rear tires suggesting an alignment issue. on 1/18/17, sears confirmed only rear wheels out of alignment. on 1/27/17, local toyota dealer confirmed rear wheels out of alignment and said $480 replacement of rear suspension arms was only solution. the local service manager said they new there would be problems when this recall remedy was put into place by toyota. my rear tires were ruined at 24,000 miles. i asked toyota to pay for the replacement (case no. 1701201908). they refused and said it was a decision made at the us regional manager level that was accepted by toyota national. i replaced all 4 tires and the rear suspension arms. i opted for after market adjustable rear arms at a cost of $222 plus alignment. i assume i am now at more risk on the highway. toyota forced this decision by providing a non-adjustable solution for a faulty adjustable part. their decision now costs customers $480 every time they need a $60 alignment. my car was driven only on normal paved roads and highways. this is unfair to customers and places customers like me a higher risk if they are unwilling to pay the replacement cost. i also called nhtsa and started complaint (ref. 1063186, beau).

The rear suspension sounds loose. two months ago desert toyota, in tucson, supposedly ordered the recalled rear lower suspension arms. i am still waiting for their parts. today they told me it would be another two months. i think that is unacceptable. whatever you can do to expedite the solution would be appreciated. On july 31st, 2015, the toyota dealership performed a suspension recall work to replace both "rear #1 lower suspension arms". that work included a 4 wheel alignment and a permanent sealant that prevented future rear alignment of the rear wheels. on august 3rd, 2016, (approx. 13k miles later) the vehicle was taken to a les schwab tire center to have the brakes inspected. during the brake inspection, the technician noted severe abnormal tire tread wear on the inside shoulders of both rear tires. the inside shoulder of the right rear tire was so severe that it was showing steel belts and was near failure (immanent tire blowout condition). les schwab noted that the front tires had normal even wear. note: the 4 wheel alignment performed on 7/31/2015 was the only alignment performed prior to 8/3/2016, the alignment check on 8/3/2016 indicated the front wheel alignment was very close and within tolerant range of the 7/31/2015 alignment, and the vehicle has not involved in any accidents since before 7/31/2015. i believe the safety recall work performed by toyota on 7/31/2015 did not fix the stated problem in the safety recall (toyota recall 'operation 77toz-csj' ref: nhtsa campaign number: 13v383000). either the recall work was not performed correctly or the parts or method of the recall failed to correct the issue leaving my car with an unsafe wheel alignment causing severe abnormal wear on the inside shoulders of the rear tires leaving my car at risk of rear tire blow out. the les schwab tire center replaced the tires and the rear #1 control arms with 'approved after-market parts' to allow for a safe rear alignment of the vehicle.

Rear sway bar links rusted and broken. colonial toyota wants to charge $398 for replacement while it only costs around $50 for the part. thus, two complains. 1. manufacturer toyota should cover the defective parts replacement via recall as this complain is widespread. 2. toyota should require dealer to not charge outrageous amount for this and cover the cost.
After hearing a clunk type sound back in 2012 i took the car to the dealer and found out that the right rear say bar linkage had rusted out. the sway bar was not secure anymore. fast forward to the fall of 2015 and now i have the same sound...not remembering about prior incident i finally discover that the left sway bar linkage is not rusted off too. why wouldnt the dealer do boh replacements back then. and by putting only one new one did that put pressure onto the other one. isnt it odd to have both side of a sway bar link rust out. this problem seems a bit too widespread to ignore.
I was driving on a city street in west haven ct (near 195 w spring st) when i heard a metalic noise from the rear of the vehicle and lost control of the car, veering into the incoming traffic lane. i was driving < 25 mph and the pavement was dry, and managed to park the car on the side of the road. fortunately there were no cars in the incoming lane, and there was no injury. my wife was in the passenger seat next to me. upon inspecting the car, i discovered that the rear right wheel was tilted at an angle relative to the body of the car. i called aaa (time was around 7:45 a.m.) and a towing truck arrived , and towed my car to a nearby garage (robert's service center, inc., 216 buckingham ave, milford, ct). i did not call police or take a picture. the service supervisor informed me that after inspecting the car, they foud that the rear forward control arm had failed (come apart at the middle). this control arm was the subject of a safety recall by toyota in 2013, and my vehicle was repaired at girard toyota in new london, ct, at the time of the recall. the failed arm still had the repair sticker on it. the shop removed and replaced the failed control arm and the one that was still intact on the left rear wheel. the car is now drivable. i believe that the outcome is likely to have been catastrophic if it had happened on the highway. i reported the incident to toyota and was given the case number 1604300620. i spoke to a case manager, mr. thorn. my intentions were to; 1) alert toyota that a recall fix has failed on my car; 2) i wanted a toyota dealer to inspect my car for an independent evaluation and to assure safety of the vehicle; 3) reimburse me for the cost of repairs. he acknowledged receiving the information, but indicated that a toyota dealer cannot guarantee a third party work. he asked me to file my expenses, but with no assurance that it will be honored.
The car was recalled in 2014 for the rear control arms. they were replaced in 2014. 2 years later and the part broke again. had just pulled out of a side street when it broke, so was able to pull to the side of the road. had car towed to mechanic. cost $560 to have it replaced. could have been deadly if i had been on the interstate.
R/r sway bar end link broken. upper and intermediate steering shaft broken.
Stabilizer link on rear of car snapped.. heard load noise.. some rattle also.. dealer replaced both right and left stabilizer links.. was charged 275.00 for each..
Sway bar
There was an intermittent, loud clunk sound from the rear of the vehicle. it was eventually determined that a rear stabilizer link was corroded and failed. parts on both sides were replaced based on the recommendation of the toyota service center.
