This vehicle uses a drive by wire (dwb) accelerator. when you press on the gas the car lurches forward. this happened on a rental car in 2010 and still is a problem on the used toyota i purchased. when i contacted toyota they stated there was no recall information. they asked me to have the vehicle diagonized at my expense, which i refused to do. this is a problem and based on information on the net others are having the same problem. i have owned many cars and not one has had such a touchy pedal. *tr
Vehicle stability control light flashing, engine light is on, vehicle is revving too fast, accelerator has no response. toyota dealer informed me about the throttle is defected & they have no fix for it. they may have to contact toyota corporate for fix. i have done previous recall on it also. i think the vehicle is defected "lemon". toyota should replace the vehicle or reimburse me the whole amount. *tr

I was parking my car wednesday evening. as i was about to finish parking my car, the engine out of nowhere made a loud vroom and accelerated on it's own as i was pressing the brake. the car hit a snow bank which stopped the car. fortunately no one was injured.
In january 2011, my 2010 toyota corolla le experienced what has been termed 'sudden acceleration'- while i was braking, the accelerator engaged by itself, going all the way to the floor. my toyota corolla is the newer design i believe, it has nailed down floor mats, and the brake pedal was already worked on by toyota i believe in october 2010. i took my car to toyota, they simply issued an inspection result indicating that the car 'checked out to factory specifications.' toyota is lying about the cause of sudden acceleration, and continues to do so. the company would rather see people injured or killed than deal with the real problem(s). *tr

I am writing on behalf of my mother who was injured in an automobile accident on november 16, 2010. my mother was driving a loaner car provided by a toyota dealership located in suffolk county, new york. when my mother was driving the vehicle off the car lot, the vehicle accelerated and she hit an oncoming vehicle. my mother surffered a fractured sternum and was hospitalized for 4 days. on february 8, 2011, the vehicle was inspected for defects by toyota motor sales, usa. the conclusion was that the vehicle was operating properly and, there was no malfunctions noted. prior to the inspection by toyota, my nephew located this same vehicle on line, using the vin#, it was noted that the vehicle had previously been involved in an accident, and the accident was caused by acceleration problems. i am asking that your agency investigate this matter. it appears that there is some discrepancy between the current inspection and the previous facts/accident associated with this vehicle. i originally sent this letter to you agency on april 13, 2011. your agency responded on august 31, 2011 with the following notation, nvs-216 mec, ref. no. 10397716. *tr

My 2010 toyota corolla continues to have acceleration issues. now it accelerates with the cruise control on to speeds over 100/110 mph. i had to drive my car from vermont to california, and used my cruise control for the first time. the speed limit was 75 to 80 mph in areas and i set the cruise control to 72. the next thing i new, the car suddenly lurched forward on its own & went completely out of control. it went to speeds of 100- 120 mph within 1-2 minutes and i could hardly control the car. i have been in 3-4 acceleration incidents with this vehicle already and been injured (the reports i have already filed with your agency this past year). this vehicle is going to kill someone. there is an electrical or engine problem with these toyotas, no matter what the nhtsa, the feds, or toyota states. it is not the way americans are driving ! don't insult our intelligence. how many more innocent victims have to get hurt. all we are asking is for toyota to take these cars back and replace them with a safe car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is what is fair to the consumer. that is what the lemon law is for. yet why does no one listen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr
I am driving my car going approx. 45 - 55miles a hour when suddenly the check engine light comes on. when this occurs the car gradually begins to slow down and will not allow me to accelerate. i can press the pedal down but the car does not read that i am pressing the pedal. stability control light begins to blink and car gradually comes to a full stop. when i pull over the rpms are revving above 1 rpm but i am not pressing the gas. this has been going on and the dealer simply told one time i needed a new battery. i bought it from them. they said your alternator is bad and i replaced it and check engine and stability light come on again. i shouldn't have so many problem with a car that was bought brand new and is not even 2yrs old. *tr

While merging into the left lane on the meadowbrook pkwy., my 2010 toyota corolla with (8,300 miles at the time), accelerator stuck. this was the first time this happened. i panicked, looked down, and saw the pedal stuck all the way down. after a few seconds i jammed on the brakes, & the pedal released. i do not believe this was due to the floor mat. my mat was not on the accelerator. this car from the beginning had "poor pick-up". by that, i mean it was very slow while trying to merge onto pkwy's to the point that i always had to floor it. i also from time to time heard a very slight click while stepping on the acc. pedal. but for the first time, it actually stuck on me. i owned a 2005 corolla before this car, & it was noting like this current car. i also owned a 1999 camry, & a 2003 4-runner. until now, i never had a problem. *tr

Toyota 2010 corolla. sudden accelerator problem: after having the recall update to our corolla, a few months later, we experienced a sudden acceleration problem with our car. from a parked position next to the curb, we put our foot on the brake and then put the car in reverse to back away from the car in front of us, and the car suddenly accelerated and proceeded to jump over a curb and hit a tree next to us on the side walk. again, this was when the car was in reverse, so the acceleration was going backwards, with our foot on the brake. after taking our car to the toyota dealership for consultation on sept 7th, they indicate that they could not find anything wrong with the car and we would need to contact toyota directly on this problem. it is now nearly a month later, and we still have not been "visited" by the toyota engineering team. we were assigned a case number by toyota and told to wait to hear from them. we are still without our car and waiting some kind of formal inspection from the toyota corporate team. the local toyota dealer is trying to help as well and is also contacting toyota corporate for assistance. this is not fair to be without our car and some reassurance from toyota that this won't happened again to our car. as of this date october 1, 2010, no inspection has taken place on our car. we're still waiting. *tr

Driving 2010 toyota corolla manual trans on interstate on 8/2/10 at 2:30 p.m. had cruise control on going 70 mph. engaged clutch, shifted to neutral and braked in preparation to stop for traffic jam ahead. brake did not engage and vehicle continued at 70 mph without touching accelerator. continued attempts to brake, downshift, turn off cruise control with no decrease in speed. initially unable to downshift but then did get into lower gear but with no resulting decrease in speed, nor did the engine make any noise indicating that i had downshifted. i was able to get onto shoulder where i continued to go 70 mph.i then got off at an exit that had an incline. part way up the hill felt something disengage and the car slowed- not just due to the incline i think. i was then able to put on emergency brake and the car stopped. after several minutes i tried the brakes again and they worked. i did not reengage the cruise control after this. please note that this occurred after i had taken the car in for both toyota recommended recalls regarding the floor mats and putting a modification in the gas pedal. when i went in for recalls i asked about placement of a computer brake override system and was first told that fix was not yet available, then told it was not relevant to my car, and, after the above event told again that toyota did not yet have the technology available to do this fix on corollas. the dealership have thus far been unpleasant and suggesting that i might not be telling the truth. *tr

I was driving my 2010 toyota corolla down the road. when i began to approach a red light at intersection, i applied brakes to slow vehicle down. instead of slowing down, however, the car began to rapidly accelerate. this required me to pass two vehicles waiting at red light in order to avoid collision. remembering what toyota co said to do when their vehicles are speeding out of control, i put car in neutral and continued to apply brakes, which had no effect whatsoever. i continued to speed down double-lined road, passing vehicles in my lane. then when other vehicles were coming in other lane in my direction, i was forced to slam full speed into vehicle in front of me in my lane. this caused my vehicle and that vehicle to roll over. when my family and i had first heard of the recalls with toyota in february of 2010, we immediately took car to toyota dealer in fl where we vacationed for the winter. we were assured that since our vin# indicated it was japanese-made, we were not part of the sticking accelerator recall. they told us to remove driver-side floormat anyway, which we immediately did. as you can see, we took every precaution possible, and as my car was careening out of control, i did everything i was supposed to do and it did not matter. and please do not insult victims of these tragedies by indicating that it is possibly driver error. clearly there is something major wrong here and these vehicles need to be taken off the road. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 toyota corolla. the vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 10v023000 (vehicle speed control: accelerator pedal). the contact stated that after repairs, the vehicle would hesitate intermittently when attempting to accelerate from a complete stop or when accelerating while in motion at low speeds. the contact attempted to apply more force to the pedal but the vehicle was hesitant to increase in speed. in addition, the accelerator pedal was modified when repaired under the recall and the contact stated it was difficult to apply pressure to the pedal. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed they could install a new accelerator pedal but the dealer was unsure if the repair would correct the failure. the dealer reset the internal computer but did not make any repairs to the pedal itself. the failures continued to recur intermittently. the failure mileage was 3,630 and the current mileage was 7,444. updated 12/01/10. *lj the consumer also stated the front of the vehicle wanders all over the road. updated 12/13/10

On july 6, 2010, i was driving on i-95 south near the ives dairy rd. exit. i drive a toyota corolla '10 le. i was going between 65-70 mph and was in the next to last lane. at approximately 6:45am, the car's rpm jumped from 2000-3000 to 5000-6000. at this point, i took my foot off the gas pedal...the car slowed down automatically on its own. then, the rpm's jumped back down to 2000-3000. i had to cross three lanes in order to pull over. while i was trying to pull over, the car was going very slow, but the rpm's were jumping back and forth between 2000-3000 to 5000-6000. this occurred while my foot was off the gas pedal and while it was hovering over the brake pedal. i did not press the brakes because i did not want to come to a full stop in the middle of fast moving traffic on i-95. this event occurred a total of three times before i was able to pull over and turn off the car. the sound the car was making was as if i were to put the car in neutral and floor the gas pedal. i had not done any of this during the incident. i turned off the engine for 10 minutes, and i restarted the car. i slowly made my way to my parents house nearby. *tr

I purchased a 2010 toyota corolla two months ago. i am now receiving a notice of recall for the mat/accelerator problem. i was assured by one salesperson that new vehicles did not have this issue. why does the government allow such sales knowing that this problem exists and why hasn't toyota fixed these problems before such sales are made. *tr
I am filing this complaint in response to a recall notice i just received from toyota. the notice says toyota will modify my accelerator pedal and floor surface in the driver's footwell. however, the recall does not include providing my recalled 2010 toyota corolla with a brake override system. according to james lentz, president of toyota usa, in his testimony before congress (february 23, 2010), toyota promised to install brake override systems in recalled vehicles. my friend who owns a 2009 toyota camry did get a brake override system, which ensures that he can stop his vehicle no matter what happens with the accelerator pedal. toyota should install a brake override system on my recalled vehicle, too--otherwise my car is not as safe as other recalled vehicles. however, when i called toyota about this, they told me they were not going to install brake override systems on corollas. this is wrong and nhtsa should do something about it. *tr
