When needing to accelerate the car takes off like a jet rocket when the pedal is pressed. the car seems to be out of control and shaking violently. this happens usually on highway when going above 50. feels very unsafe. this is a used car i bought. this happens on a regular basis.

While driving on a street named hamner this afternoon on a warm day in the city of norco with clear skies traveling approximately 15 mph my 2010 corolla did not stop at a distance of about 15 feet when i applied the brake pedal and that caused me to hit another vehicle. the brake system failure which felt like the anti-lock brake system where the brakes did not engage but rather made a pulsating movement against my rotors caused my vehicle to keep moving and inevitably i could not stop my vehicle. on several occasions i have brought this issue up to toyota service departments at numerous dealers in the past years and i was given no solutions. the explanation after showing the technicians was that it was normal and should not be a problem. this brake issue caused me to not have braking system power to safely come to a stop prior to the collision today. i believe that toyota is liable for the failure in the brake system including but not limited to the damage created today to not only my vehicle but also to the vehicle to which this accident today involved including any known or unknown injuries incurred. please let me know what i can do to resolve this matter as soon as possible.

Re: i haven't followed up on rcmn-10v017-5275 as i hadn't noticed a problem living in an area with level streets. however, when trying to park or leave a parking space on an incline or decline it is a problem. when moving in or out of a parking, i noticed that my gas pedal is very sensitive. it lurches my car quickly forward. this is not about my parking technique. someone else familiar with parking on these streets is concerned about the car's acceleration. is this issue related to needing a remedy to the above recall notice. if yes, can i get this fixed for free even though my notice has expired? what do you suggest.

Cruise control active, i made a speed change using the steering column lever when the engine went to 6,000 rpm in full acceleration. my speed was about 65 on a rural road prior to this event. i tapped the accelerator with no change, then the brake which cancelled the uncommanded acceleration.

My car suddenly turn on most of the dash lights: brake,abs, power steering, and the speedometer , temperature gauge, revolution gauge and air conditioner stop working. the vehicle was stationary when all tis problems stated start to happen

During the operation of the vehicle on a normal surface street during morning commute through city streets following traffic at speeds not exceeding 35 mph the vehicle seemed to have accelerated (sped up) during the application of the brake causing the vehicle to strike the vehicle in front of it. the damage to the vehicle struck was not visible due to the slow speed, but it did cause minor damage to the vehicle in question. during the event the driver perceived acceleration at the time of the application of the brakes and the sound associated with the anti-lock features being engaged. at the end of the incident the brake pedal was depressed all the way down to the floor. this is very concerning since the reaction of the vehicle was opposite of the driver command. the vehicle is part of the toyota smart stop company recall, but the software update was not done since it is considered optional for the owner to do. based on the reasons for the recall it is concerning that the condition it is addressing may have occurred. because this report is based on driver perception i only request that the smart stop recall be addressed and possibly mandated to ensure that the issue is from the software that owners will take the time to have it accomplished.

At approx 11:30 pm on july 15th 2016, my fianc, myself and 2 of our friends were heading home from downtown miami on i-95. it was raining extremely hard, so everyone was going well below the speed limit. i would approx we were going 35-40 mph. the car in front of us slammed on his breaks due to the rain coming down extremely hard, and i proceeded to do the same. however instead of my car breaking, it began accelerating 10-15mph. luckily there were no cars to my right and i was able to veer out of the way of the car in front of us, or else we would of been in a horrible car accident and possibly dead. as expected, my fianc is extremely shooken up by what happened. i know this is a known issue with the 2010 corolla and i have taken my car in for all the recalls and inspections but obviously there is something still wrong with the 2010 corollas because i almost died tonight die to unexpected acceleration

I am the owner of a 2010 toyota corolla, whose vin number is: [xxx]. that car had a low mileage when i brought to germain toyota in naples, florida, to fix any problem at that time that had caused the "engine light" to appear on the dash. i was told that the "gas cap" was the problem and that i needed to replace it; i followed their recommendation. but, one day after the same light appeared again. disappear; therefore, i decided not to come back for that same thing. recently, in several occasions the car suddenly stopped working while i was driving it both in local and highway 75 without any warning or sign that such thing was going to happen: ?the gas pedal just goes to zero, that means the pressure went quickly and suddenly to no pressure, and three lights are shown on the dash.? thank god, i am still alive! i took the car to germain toyota, they had urged me to replace the "battery," which i did. the problem resurfaced the day after. the second time, they asked me to replace the "ecu," which i did. that cost me more than $800, close to $900. the three lights reappeared after two days. i came brought the car back to germain toyota, they told me that it was another thing that caused the problem. last week, the first week of december, i brought it back to them for the same lights, and they told me to replace again the "gas cap," i paid another money, but the same problem continues to go on and on and persist every week. the dealer refuses to acknowledge and accept that it is a factory defect. those things happened both in streets and highway i-75. i do not feel safe to continue to drive it anymore, and i do not want to sell it to place someone else's life in peril. therefore, i ask your department for help. i cannot keep on spending almost every week for the same problem. i thank you in advance! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I was driving 99 south in south sacramento last aug 21 2015, at around 2 pm. my lt foot was on the brake as i stopped to glance at my blind spot on my rt side so i can take hwy 50 toward lake tahoe, when i turned my head to the front, i noticed my car was moving forward on it's own, so i pressed the brakes all the way down and i lost control of the car, i felt the brake stucked to the floor and the only reason the car stopped is because i was on bumper to bumper traffic and my car hit the car infront of me. my car had only had 47000 miles on it. 2 weeks prior to that i took my car to the dealer for oil change and he said i need new front brakes on the next oil change. as a result of the accident, my car is totalled. fortunately no one was injured! the policeman took report. i called toyota customer service in torrance and she suggested to inspect the " black box " or edr of the car then she asked me what i want from toyota! after the accident, i found out that there were lots of recalls on toyota matrix up to 2012 but i never received any notice from the mail nor the dealer fix the recall whenever i take my car for oil change!

When applying the brakes, my car will rev up. especially when i'm going down hill. another concern is that my car will make a 2-3 second rattling noise upon starting up. it only makes this noise once in a while and it is coming from the engine. another issue i'm having is the car's check engine light, track light and vsc off light coming on simultaneously on any rainy day and staying on for several days after it has stopped raining. i avoid driving at fast speeds when its rainy because obviously the car is very unstable. my driver side window wont open or close and very cold days and other days it makes a weird noise. i just bought this car used and it has about 79k miles on it.

Traveled approximately 80 miles round trip. pulled into driveway of passenger and stopped. car was idling then suddenly surged forward. had to stomp on brake hard, but still hit garage door causing damage. this was the third incident with my car and i am now afraid to drive it. second incident occurred when i slowed at a stop light which was green preparing to turn right. the car suddenly accelerated and i stood on the brake as i turned the corner. the car sounded like all the bolts and motor were falling out before it righted itself. this could have been a very serious accident.

Entered head in parking spot in enclosed public garage, car was positioned crooked within lines, backed up minimal feet to correct to a parallel position, put in drive (foot on brake) car lurched forward violently perhaps 5 to 6 feet into a braided restraining cable at the front of the space. front end damage to body, headlight, jammed passenger door, front of hood, possible radiator and/or a/c condenser. repairs are beginning at toyota collision center, 410-525-1000, 15001 s.caton ave. halethorpe (baltimore) maryland . estimate is $3500 - my share $1000 deductible with liberty mutual. floor mat recall has been done and fix was completed, have not been notified yet re steering column cable repair. a check on the nhtsa website of my serial number does not include this car in the acceleration issue. if nothing else, i would like to have the gas pedal correction in this recall to be done on my car anyway, even though it does not show in your recall listing - can this be done?? can you request this of my dealer - russel toyota 6324 baltimore national pike (410-788-8400) - baltimore, md?? otherwise, i will be scared that this could occur again at any time!! *tr

This is a petition for an investigation into low-speed surging in the 2006-2010 toyota corolla with etcs-i, in which the brakes fail to stop the vehicle in time to prevent a crash. this request is based on first-hand experience in which multiple low-speed surge events that occurred while driving our 2010 corolla. the latest incident resulted in a crash on june 8, 2014. in addition to the evidence from our crash incident, we are providing evidence that many other corolla owners are experiencing similarly unsafe scenarios that are leading to crashes. see document files for copy of full petition letter and supporting material.

While driving on route 30 east in pa, i experienced a scenario where i was on cruise control and pressed the brake. the car continued to accelerate at it's speed and subsequent pressings of the brakes did not slow the car. i shifted the car into neutral and the brakes still were not slowing the car enough. i had to drive into the left shoulder and grass beyond that in order to slow the car down enough to let other cars pass so i could go into the right lane. the next business i took my car to the dealer and after driving 7 miles and looking for error codes, reported that they "could not reproduce the issue". my car already had all the fixes for the unintended acceleration issue that toyota had a number of recalls for done in december 2013. this issue needs to be further investigated by toyota because if the reported fixes do not work, then there could be a significant number of accidents/fatalities yet to come. i never had experienced this issue before. *tr

Car bolts when parking, taking off back or forward, from dead start or taking off from lights, stop signs etc. has done this for yrs. now. son drove car and mentioned how awful that was and i never mentioned it to him. friend did not believe me and tried it for one block. said it was dangerous and horrible. i am sick of this happening and need to have it investigated. i am a very patient person but this is not good. happens every time i drive it.

I [xxx] the owner of toyota corolla 2010 (license plate: [xxx], licensed with the state of maryland vin no: [xxx]), residing at [xxx], while trying to park in my residential apartments at the above mentioned address (at a speed of 3-5 mph), applied the brakes and all of a sudden it caused an unintended acceleration and i hit the huge metallic trash bins in front of me at a very high speed on october 28th, 2013. the airbags did not deploy, but the front of my car got damaged heavily. it has been towed away by my insurance company geico to one of their body shops. my left ear and neck are in great pain since then and my wife [xxx] who was the passenger along with me suffered left knee sprain. we have been in a state of utter shock and dismay since this incident as this was completely unexpected. i have been a safe driver since the past 7 years and have never had any accidents, violations etc. also i never mistook the gas pedal for the brake during my whole driving career and i use only one leg for this purpose. my vehicle when i purchased in 2010 was inspected 2-3 times for this and other issues by the dealer/toyota. the initial estimates as per my insurance agent are several grand (dollars) and the damage to the car is extensive. the insurance company's body shop is working on it. please see the attachments that show the car was taken to the toyota dealer within a few months of purchasing it for acceleration problems and also the edr reports, service statement showing that this model is a part of a open recall service by toyota. i opened a case with toyota usa headquarters about the unintended acceleration that caused the accident yesterday. the case# is [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr ... updated 03/19/15*bf *tr

My toyota corolla 2010 car has manual transmission. when i drove at about 35mph on city street and hit brake pedal, engine suddenly roared to 8000rpm. i depressed the clutch fully, turned off engine, hit hard the brake pedal,turned left to median; the car hit hard the median curb and stopped partly in left lane. after several attempts on pedals and turned on engine, it still roared in the first several tries. the car eventually worked normally after 10 minutes and no injury happened. i never let the engine run over 5000rpm even when i tested the car and engine; my maximal running rpm is about 3000. this 8000rpm should not be from my operation. i was not convinced on 'stick pedal" or "floor mat" cause for this case. the sequence "turned off engine, braked" might be good to "braked to stop and turned off engine" because it is too hard to brake with engine off. but, when you hear the scary 8000rpm roaring engine, the first reaction is turn it off. i have scheduled an appointment with dealer. *tr

On monday july 29,2013 while i was set on 70 mph cruise control, my toyota corolla suddenly surged forward. i have no idea how fast it made the car go ,but i have never been in anything going that fast. i had to take the car into the grass median to avoid hitting another car when the brakes would not stop my car. we still flew down the grass median like a speed boat hitting waves, we were bouncing, the car was bouncing, i had severe cramps and stabbing across my lower kidney area when we finally came to a stop. i had to hold the brake pedal to the floor for what seemed like eternity. before it finally stopped. i reported the incident in great detail to toyota corporate and my case was #1307291802.(this case # is no longer valid) i was told at that time if i felt safe, i could take it to my dealer in d.m.,iowa where i leased the car in 2010, or if i felt unsafe, i could take it to adams toyota in lee's summit, missouri. then, my daughter-in-law called adams on my behalf and they gave her an entirely new case number because the first rep who took the report did not understand there was damage .my new case # is 1308011967. i felt i never want to be in that corolla again, so i did take it to adams and they provided me with a scion rental to get back to home and work in iowa. toyota has inspected the car and has up to 30 days to give me their report. i am to receive a copy of the data imaging extracted from the black box also.

The gas pedal suck to the floor when accelerating with the cruise control on. i pulled off road, put car in neutral and shut motor off. gas pedal was still stuck to floor. tried pulling pedal up to no avail. turned ignition to the on position and pedal still stuck. after stomping it several times gas pedal unstuck. you could here something underneath the hood release it. definitely not a floor mat problem!! *tr

I was on the highway going about 70mph. my exit was coming up on the right side so i put my foot on the brake to slow down. however the brake stuck and the vehicle wouldn't slow down, it kept going. i had the cruise control on, and usually if i brake without first turning it off it slows down, but that didn't happen. so i turned the cruise control off but nothing happened. my car kept going. i pushed down on the brake, but that made the car accelerate even more. i checked to make sure the pedal wasn't stuck, it wasn't, but i knew that wasn't the problem because my car was accelerating when i was hitting the brake. luckily there was no one in front of me because i was going over 110mph. i sped at this speed for quite a ways maybe 3/4 of a mile. i thought i was going to die and had my phone in my had to call 911. i kept pushing on the brake since i didn't know what else to do (this of course made me go faster and faster). the brake wouldn't go down though. i didn't understand what was happening. it was like stuck? finally i heard my accelerate pop. and the car started to decelerate. *tr
