On november 24, 2017 the vehicle was placed in park using the mounted knob gear shifter. the driver was going to remove items from the bed of the truck into a bulk trash area in the driver's housing development. the bulk trash area is a 3-wall concrete dumpster hider, with no dumpster inside (as shown in picture). the passenger exited the vehicle prior to the driver exiting. after exiting the vehicle and walking towards back of the truck, the truck began to roll backwards, ultimately hitting the concrete barrier that brought the vehicle to a stop. upon re-entering the vehicle., the driver noted that the knob gear shifter was in "reverse". the driver immediately called insurance provider to file claim, as well as fca, the vehicle's manufacturer. fca sent an investigator while the truck was at the body shop to assess vehicle. owner also brought vehicle to ram dealership subsequent to body repairs for inspection. ram said because incident could not be reproduced, issue did not exist. owner has owned vehicle since november 2014 and this was the first time this incident occurred. as such, duplication is not predictable. fca placed blame on parking brake not being utilized.

My truck has a rotary switch used to switch between park, reverse, neutral and drive. my vehicle was running and i was in drive. i stopped and turned the switch three places to the left. this put the vehicle in park. i left the engine running. i exited the vehicle and left the driver door open. i leaned over to look at something and when i turned around the truck was rolling backwards. i ran after the truck but could not catch it and it crashed into another truck that i own. my truck came to a stop and when i got back into the vehicle it was in reverse. thankfully no one was injured but my truck suffered moderate damage. this all occurred on private property so there was no police report filed.

August, 2017 parked my 2014 ram on side street to put out yard sale sign when i returned to truck it was not there , looking around saw the ram under a big pine tree upon opening door i saw my truck was still in park. thank goodness only had hood damage.

Starting to back out of my driveway, i stopped and thought i had shifted the rotary automatic transmission knob to the park position to go into the house and retrieve an item before continuing. apparently, i did not get the knob correctly in teh park position, as i started exiting the vehicle with the door open, the transmission was still in reverse and started rolling backward. i re-entered the vehicle to apply the brake, but not until the opened truck door had collided with my garage wall, causing damage to the truck door and the garage wall. i felt fortunate that i was not pinned between the door and the garage wall before i was able to get back in the vehicle. the knob shift control is not very intuitive and i believe can lead more frequently to driver error. it was also surprising to me how much acceleration and force occurred without applying any pressure to the gas pedal.

My trucks 'service electronic throttle control' light (lightning bolt) comes on both when starting my vehicle and when driving my vehicle. when it comes on when i try to start the truck, it wont change out of the gear it is in (ie i cant go faster than 15-18mph). it sometimes goes off if i turn the engine on and off multiple times. the more dangerous timing of it is when the light comes on while i'm driving.this either causes me to downshift into a lower gear which throws me forward and revs the engine in excess of 3000rpm, or while i am stopped, the rpms climb without any foot on the accelerator. if i take my foot off the brake while this happens, i accelerate forward either up to 18mph or 30mph depending which gear it is 'stuck' in. i have taken it to one local ram dealer 6 times reporting the same issue. the did flash updates, replaced accelerator pedal sensor, brake sensor, repaired connector for the accelerator pedal sensor, and replaced throttle body (all of which at the time, they said each individual component was the root of the problem). i have taken it to another local ram dealer, and they attempted to fix it with 4 and a half hours of diagnostic time. they replaced the throttle body and replaced a cable/connector and low and behold, the problem still exists. this is very dangerous for so, so many reasons. i note that not only the check engine light have come on, but the traction control light, abs light, service 4wd light, ! temp light, check brake light, and of course the service electronic throttle control light.

Shifter knob has slipped or changed gears while moving or standing idle. other times it will not shift into any gear ie: reverse. also dash lights flicker at times, and at times will not turn off parking lights killing the battery. this has happened several times over the past 2 months.

2014 ran 1500 tradesman blacked out edition. after stopping the vehicle and putting in park to check other concerns when running 40mph the truck shakes and sounds like misfire, after stepping out of truck it began to roll backwards and pushed me down. after getting back up the truck continued to roll down the hill and ran over my ankle and foot. before crashing into a concrete wall. since then i have used the emergency brake when parking and the truck was repaired by insurance. 8,000 dollars of damage to the truck and my right foot is still healing after 2 months. dash showed truck in park and lever was completely up. this is the 2nd time it happened, and i got lucky the truck didn't run over my chest or head. the first time the truck didn't stay in park was probably about 7 months ago, i placed truck in park and began to get out when the truck was still rolling forward. i had to push on brakes and remove from park and put back into park for it to work. intermittent park position is a very bad thing to be intermittent.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while the vehicle was stationary the vehicle, which was attached to a trailer, rolled down the hill while in the park position. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v161000 (power train). the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 46,600. updated 06/29/17*lj the consumer stated that when checked the dash, the truck was in reverse. the vehicle was repaired. *as

My truck was placed in "park" mode. i exited the vehicle to open a gate. the truck was stationary and running as i walked up to the gate but as i was manipulating the combination lock all of a sudden the truck began moving forward and hit the closed gate. luckily i was standing slightly off to the side and was not pinned between the gate and truck. i was bumped by the front corner of the vehicle but sustained no injury. very scary situation given the remoteness of my home location.

Vehicle has dial knob shifter it pops out of gear while going down road has a few times will shift to p .. no police report required there was no accident the times it occurred one time i was out of vehicle it was in park and shifted in to drive. i had 2 witnesses to this event .multiple dates and dates are estimated

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while the shifter was in park, the vehicle rolled away without warning. the vehicle was taken to martins chrysler, dodge, jeep, ram (1422 main st, union grove, wi 53182) where a diagnostic test was performed, but the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact back to the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 25,000. the vin was not provided. *bf *tr

I bought a one owner certified used 2014 ram 1500 2wd truck with 22k miles about 1 month ago. dealer has all service records. as soon as i got on the highway leaving the dealer, the seats start to shake at about 55mph, i can feel a violent shaking and vibration coming from the seats and center console. it is not felt in the steering wheel at all. runs fine, no unusual noises etc. rides fine up to 55mph. i took it back to the dealer, they balanced the tires. this did not fix it. i took it back, they replaced one tire and road force balanced them again, still no luck. they had it for a week and replaced the driveshaft. a little better, but still not right, vibration is still there. they had 2-3 of their senior guys drive it, and have had my truck for over 2+ weeks now and are still not sure what is wrong. i just made my first payment and only got to drive the truck a few days in one month of ownership. i see numerous similar complaints online about this. no recalls on my truck?? someone help.

I pulled up to a gate at a facility just off the highway in belton, texas and put my truck in park using the dial. i left the truck running and got out to open the gate. after exiting the vehicle it somehow began moving forward until it impacted the gate. i got back in the vehicle and the dial was still in park. it destroyed the gate and messed up the front end of my truck. i did not know this had been reported so much until i got online and researched it and now see that is it a problem with many other drivers experiencing the same issue.

The trucked rolled down my driveway while in park with parking break engaged.

While driving my children to the park my truck switched itself from drive to park. i was pulling up to a stop sign while this happened. the truck has a knob for the selection shift. my children were in the back and scared all of to death not to mention it almost caused an accident. the knob still said the vehicle was in drive, but the display said to push the brakes and put the vehicle into drive. something similar happened a few months ago, but the time i thought maybe i had hit something with my knee or foot to cause it. i now know that there is a serious problem with that knob. i was still moving while applying the brake, then the truck just jerked to a stop. i first hit the gas, but the engine increased rpm, but the transmission was not engaged. i will not put my children in this truck again. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while the vehicle was stationary, the air suspension warning indicator remained illuminated. in addition, the transmission malfunctioned while in the fourth wheel drive position. the vehicle overheated without warning. the vehicle was taken to be repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 85,819.

This model vehicle continues to lunge forward/bump from the rear when coming to a stop from a 2-1 downshift. chrysler dealers refuse to acknowledge the issue and state since other same model/year makes do it it is considered normal.

I ran home quick to get something out of my office, i parked the truck in the drive way, put it in park and left the truck running. i jumped out, ran through the garage and when i got to the top of the stairs i turned around to see the truck coming right at me, i jumped up on the top stair as the truck came up the drive way and through the garage and slammed into the cement stairs in the garage.

When i put my 2014 dodge ram pickup in park and get out it rolled back. this has happened three times. twice it rolled about 3 feet, other time about 6 feet. dodge dealer here in anchorage alaska claims they no nothing of issue and do not have a fix for the problem.

2014 ram 1500 pickup. had stopped to refuel my pickup truck. when refueling completed, and after putting on my seatbelt, i started the engine and placed the transmission selector from park into drive. as i began to roll forward i had an electronic chime and notice displayed on my instrument panel: "vehicle not in park". having rolled only 10 feet, i stopped the truck, placed the car into park, and when i did so the digital speedometer gave an indication of zero. i put the gear back into drive and received the same alert. my speed was not more than 2-3 mph. i repeated the process and when i got the alert the next time i decided to continue to drive, after which the alert disappeared. perhaps just a coincidence, but my digital satellite radio malfunctioned and continued to do so before self-correcting 1.5 miles later. this was the first and only occurrence. i have not reported it to the dealer. i am only reporting it now to nhtsa because of the news article that i just read citing my year/model vehicle being among those that have had reported roll-off issues. this could be related and might provide you with additional data for analysis. *tr

The engine oil cooler on the pentastar 3.6l v-6 engine cracked causing oil to leak onto other engine parts and the ground. i noticed the oil leaking after driving approximately 4 miles. this could easily start a fire or cause an engine to seize. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while in park, the vehicle rolled backwards in the driveway the dealer was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 35,000. updated 02/16/17*lj *cn

After going to two dealerships, i am unable to get my recall r46/nhtsa 15v-541 repaired. tuttle click dodge in irvine california and huntington beach dodge in huntington beach, california both advise that they do not have the part, that chrysler will not release the part other than 2 a month, and after ordering the part through both dealers and being told i will be called when it arrives, it has been months and i still have no call and no repair. *tr

My vehicle is a 2014 dodge ram 1500 and has a turn knob selector on the dashboard for transmission selection. about a month ago, early november late october, i put the selector in p and the vehicle had rolled to the point where i pressed the brake and turned it again from d to p. the second time all was ok. i thought nothing about this until i noticed articles about other people having the same issue. i reported this to my dealer, johnson dodge, who advised me that this was not a recall after i gave them my vin. just making sure this is a safe issue. *tr

Has dial transmission knob. swear it was in park, opened door, realized it was moving in reverse. stop it after door was bent forward by tree. already been claimed and repaired. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to remain in the park position. when the contact returned to the vehicle, it had rolled away and backed into another vehicle. there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 37,000.

I believe our truck should be part of most of the recalls listed fo ram trucks. our tires are wearing on the outside, they won't fix. the transmission was replaced at twenty some thousands miles, and my wife being the primary driver said that when you come to a complete stop the truck sometimes jumps forward. the rear differential seal was replaced. i'm afraid that we might lose our wheels on the road. there is also a chemical smell coming from the engine that everyone can smell but the dealer. currently working with chrysler and been driving a rental for almost a month.

Transmission was replaced due to a manufacturing defect, not part of a recall, rear main seal was replaced, rear differential seal was replaced, high mount brake light was replaced due to water leaking in the cab. there is a chemical smell coming from engine thru vents. front tires wearing on the outside most likely the tie rod defect that the dealer won't acknowledge.

Engine light came on along with the service electronic throttle control indicator. truck would not shift out of 1st gear; 3000 rpms, will not go over 25/30 mph. this was on vehicle start; can't drive it. it is in my garage. may need to be towed to service

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while the vehicle was parked, it rolled forward. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 20,300.

My son's ram 1500 rolled forward while in park damaging our garage door. we just heard about this vehicle's transmission issues and it sounds like what happened in this situation.

I am writing with concern i have for a possible vehicle defect with a 2014 ram 1500 4x4. i have contacted chrysler corporate and have received little to no help. i have been basically told that they don't know what the problem is and have technicians working to solve the issue. the problem is a transmission issue that the neither servicing dealer nor corporate can repair. it has been in their repair shop 4 times. my last visit i was told by the service manager that the repair was not made because they did not know what to do and to 'drive it till it became worse or more consistent.' their mechanic and service personnel have heard the noise as well but cannot determine the problem. the noise is a high pitch squeal at a down shift from the 2nd gear to 1st gear. my concern is that i have asked the servicing dealer and the case manager with chrysler corporate about the safety of the vehicle. regardless of the downshift squeal being from 2nd gear to 1st gear, should there be a catastrophic failure of the transmission at highway speeds what will happen? they will not answer this question. if this is a safety issue, they need to make me the consumer aware and repair as needed. i have asked them to replace the transmission and have been told every reason why they cannot. i feel this is unacceptable and my safety and the safety of my family is at potential risk. i have attached my correspondence with chrysler for your review including the servicing dealer documents and the corporate case manager.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while attempting to park the vehicle, the gear shifter did not engage and the vehicle moved forward. on another occasion, the vehicle did not move when the gear was shifted into drive. the contact stated that the failures began approximately three years ago without warning. the failures had become worse. the vehicle was taken to dominion of bedford (540-586-8221, located at 1750 independence blvd, bedford, va 24523) to be diagnosed, but no failure codes were found. the technician stated that there was no technical service bulletin and that the vehicle performed as designed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and referred the contact back to the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

I am sending this complaint regarding the gear selector knob that i believe poses a safety concern due to the 5 or 6 times that i have exited my vehicle while it was running and still in gear. on a few occasions i thought that i turned the gear selector knob to park when i actually turned it to reverse. i opened the door and began to exit my truck when it began to roll backwards. i have a 2010 ram with a normal shift selector lever and never had this issue. i thought that it might take a little time to get used to the knob style, but after 20 months, i am still having issues. i have spoken to others with this style knob and they have experienced the same issue. each time this occurred was in my driveway either getting the mail or to run into the garage to get something. thank you *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving downhill at approximately 15 mph, the vehicle accelerated and then decelerated on its own only when in first or second gear. the vehicle was taken to the dealer approximately seven times where it was diagnosed that the torque converter was locking and unlocking and was designed to perform that way. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000. updated 06/29/16*lj updated 10/19/2017*js

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. after driving in a heavy snow storm, the contact drove into the garage and attempted to place the vehicle into park. the parking light flashed and the vehicle would not shift into park; however, the other gears worked. the check transmission warning indicator illuminated. after approximately 10 minutes, the vehicle shifted into park. the dealer stated that several people complained about the same failure. the snow jammed the linkage and had to be defrosted. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 29,100.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while backing out of a driveway, the vehicle jerked and a loud unknown noise was heard from the rear passenger side tire. the contact heard an unknown noise when making a turn or coming to a stop. the failure occurred constantly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear differential and spider gear were worn out and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not covered under warranty because it was not a manufacturer defect. the failure mileage was 24,000.

8 speed automatic shift knob is awkward & we have began exiting vehicle several times while running, but still in drive!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. after the vehicle was placed in the park position and the emergency brake was engaged, the vehicle began to roll forward moments after the driver exited the vehicle. as a result, the vehicle crashed into the garage door. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the cause of the failure was unable to be determined. in addition, while driving, the vehicle failed to accelerate above 30 mph. on another occasion, while driving, the headlights became inoperable and the instrument panel flickered. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 15,000.

While driving around 45 mph i noticed that the truck had shifted out of drive when i tried to put my foot down on the accelerator it would just rev like it was in neutral. the gear indicator light above the rotary knob was still in drive but was blinking. on the heads up display a message came up saying to shift to park to select a gear. i almost got rear ended having to park my truck in the middle lane of a three lane highway to get back into drive. this has happened twice now, the first time i took it in and they opened a star case and the service department was advised by the manufacturer to change the elelctronic shifter module. shortly after that it happened again. this time they're saying the don't know what to replace and can't do anything about it. both times they state that they can't find any codes and have been unable to replicate problem. the first time the problem came up the vehicle had about 11,000 miles on it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge ram 1500. while the engine was on and the vehicle was in the park position, it rolled backwards and crashed into another vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle experienced the failure listed in nhtsa campaign number: 14v161000 (power train); however, the vin was not included. a police report was not filed and there were no injuries. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 45,800.

The computer malfunctioned i.e. satelleite radio malfunctioned folowed by an electric smell. the transmission jumps from r to p and d to p at slow speeds.

I started my vehicle mid september to go to the store to realize the check engine light was on and the transmission was stuck in 4th gear. i checked the website for recalls and there were 3. non of which had anything to do with the transmission. i made an appointment to get them repaired which took almost a month. i dropped the truck off tuesday the 20th of october and it is still there. they say the recalls have been repaired but the transmission issue is unknown. the vehicle has less than 6,000 miles.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge ram 1500. while driving approximately 35 mph and the accelerator pedal released, the vehicle decreased to 20 mph and suddenly stopped. the failure occurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was unable to be duplicated. the approximate failure mileage was 44,801.

While driving to work on a smooth straight road, the emergency information screen in my gauge cluster started flashing and stated "service power steering" "service electronic brake system" "service electronic brake controller" "service transmission" it also stated to not shift to park as shifting may become inoperable once stopped. my power steering was gone, my gas pedal was inoperable and braking was very weak. i had to muscle the truck to the side of the road and slowly come to a stop and shifted into park. i turned the key fob to off and let it sit for a few minutes. when i tried to restart the vehicle it would not even attempt to turn over. now, my key fob was also stuck in the ignition and would not turn to the off position to remove the key. i called chrysler roadside assistance and sat on hold for 55 minutes before the first person answered the phone. after 10-15 min we had a tow truck set up but that wouldn't be there for another 75 minutes. so from the time i called to when the tow truck actually arrived it was almost 2.5 hours! good thing it wasn't the middle of winter. they replaced the ignition module. that wasn't the problem. then they thought it was the bcm. that didn't work as they now "only have communication with half of the vehicle". i'm still not sure what that means but that's where we are at day 7. i do not want this vehicle back. i do not feel safe driving it if the service department has no idea how to properly fix it or even know if they have properly fixed it with their guess and check methods. if i had been traveling at higher speeds or pulling a trailer when this happened, the outcome could have been disasterous! or even worse if my wife had been driving in 4wd and lost power steering there is no way she could have pulled the vehicle over safely. huge safety concern that i want no part of. this is on top of the 5+ recalls.

While backing out of a private driveway onto a public street and nearing the end of my reversing i hit the brakes and using the rotary gear selector selected "d" for drive, the "d" illuminated and began blinking thinking the vehicle was in drive i looked ahead of me to proceed forward but the truck continued to roll backwards and struck a parked car. i have since noticed that the gear selector under certain conditions will show it is in "d" "r" or "p" when in fact it blinks and that gear is not selected.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle hesitated to respond. the "service accelerator" message suddenly displayed prior to the failure. the contact mentioned that the vehicle would resume to normal function independently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 29,000. the vin was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. when the contact utilized the seat belt, the service air bag and transmission indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated or diagnosed. while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle lost power and was towed to the contact's residence. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact back to the local dealer for more testing. the failure was not repaired. the failure mileage was 32,000.

Our '14 ram 1500 was bought new on 6/22/15. on 8/9/15 our new 2014 dodge ram was parked on a incline in a friends driveway. my wife and son got in the truck, started it and put it into reverse to leave. after moving only a few feet my wife noticed the hostess coming down the drive to say goodbye. she placed the truck in park, got out of the vehicle leaving the door open and walked to the front of the truck. while giving the hostess a hug, hostess exclaimed your truck is rolling away. my wife tried to run back and around the door to get in the vehicle. before she could, the open door took down two mailboxes and 4x4 timber posts they were mounted on and opened the door beyond the spring limit pushing into the front fender and popping out the front head light. the truck rolled across the street into the neighbors yard hitting a power poll where it came to stop. the impact to the poll was strong enough to pull down power lines. upon reaching the vehicle a male guest noted the vehicle was still in park. my 9 year old was still strapped into his seat belt and significantly shaken up though not injured. the police and utility company arrived. the officer wrote his report up as vehicle malfunction. the tow truck operator said the vehicle could be driven in its condition. he pulled back the door to as close to closed as possible and tied closed. the rear bumper and tailgate are trashed. insurance adjuster has given preliminary estimate of $8,900. the power company has not contacted us yet about their service call. i guess very fortunate that my wife did not make it around the door as she could have been crushed between the door and two mailboxes. also thankful the the truck went straight across the street rather than turning and going down a long hill. have contacted ram and was promised an investigator would be in touch within 3 days. 4th day and still no contact!

I have owned this truck for a month and a half and now it is slamming into gear between 2nd and 3rd gear. at 30 mph. and then it downshifts very hard when slowing! this is a nightmare. it is also vibrating on the highway and it feels like something is going on with the front end. i am bringing it back to the dealer but im sure i will get the same answer as everyone else. that there is no solution for this problem but they know about it. there is a thread for this issue. this truck was not cheap and i had a 93 ford that didn't do this stuff. this is not right and the more i read online this is a ongoing issue and the dealership can not fix it. so are we just suppose to drive around these 30k plus trucks with this issue. the more i look into it this is only one of the issues but i wanted to list my complaint and will also do so to anyone who will listen. wish i never bought this truck!!!!! they need to come up with a solution because this is unacceptable.
