AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 2

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2014 Nissan Altima

Accelerating from a stop sign, about 10 feet later there was no power to the wheels. neither reverse or forward gears worked and the check engine light came on. engine runs normally and no abnormal noises. ended up having to push the car to the nearest safe area and waited for a tow. this seems to be a sudden transmission failure at just over 50,000 miles the shop has quoted me $4000 to replace the transmission citing they have seen many failures on the nissan cvt's and do not recommend repairing them.

I purchased a used 2014 nissan altima with 58,000 miles. it drove great during test driving and on my way home which is 1 hour away from where i live. by day 2 the car began jerking around 60 mi per hr. and under. i made an appointment to have it looked at my local nissan dealership. by day 4 on the way to the dealership the rpm would jump up to 4 and the car made a winding noise. it would advance forward quickly and then stall. all of this while driving on a major highway. i came to a place where i could pull over waited a few minutes and then tried to pull off the car would not go anywhere. i finally had to have it towed to the dealership. nissan has yet to know what the problem is, saying it has an "unspecified code". it's been 3 days. i know there had been a recall on the cvt transmission however i don't see my vehicle vin on the list.

I parked the car went into a store left the car running. while i was driving home, the cvt transmission would not shift out of 1st gear. i know there are no gears in cvt but i could only go 20 mph on the road and highway, very dangerous. i made it home, and the next morning, the transmission was ok.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and the battery indicator illuminated. the vehicle could not be restarted. the vehicle was towed to buckeye nissan (3820 parkway ln, hilliard, oh 43026, (614) 771-2345) where the torque converter and transmission were replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they performed updates to the new transmission and assured the contact that the failure would not recur. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 84,300.

The vehicle stalls when pulling from a stop sign or stoplight. the vehicle restarts without issue then will stall again when engaging into gear. this happened at highway speed also with the car turning completely off. after exiting the highway, the car restarted without issue and was able to continue off the road. at a stoplight, it stalled again in the intersection. research online shows multiple complaints on this vehicle similar to my complaint. this vehicle is unsafe to drive and i don't think i will drive it again.

I have a 2014 nissan altima. one morning after having drove about 15 miles on the city street, turning my car off and then on again after about 10 minutes, my car started shutting off when put in drive. i had to get it towed. my mechanic called nissan and gave them the failure code. he was told that it was the torque converter. it was locked and so the transmission needed to be replaced. i've been reading up on this and other complaints. nissan issued a recall on the cvt reprogramming, but i think they know that there is more wrong with the transmissions they installed these cars than that. reprogramming the cvt is simple for them, it's just a software upgrade. now i'm finding out that the torque converter is failing (locking up) on thousands of cars. i feel nissan should be held accountable for these repairs.

My vehicle stalled while i was stopped in traffic when i attempted to restart my vehicle and move it . it would start but when i attempted to shift from park it would stall again. i had to get the vehicle towed when taken to the shop nothing appeared when scanned and days later the car began to move again

The car stalls in the middle of the road while driving. this happen on more that 4 times before it completely stopped driving. i took the vehicle to dealership, where is was diagnosed to for transmission failure. the vehicle has only 81k miles on it. this is a major issue with the vehicle.

Takata recall my 2014 nissan altima started losing power and stalling while driving on the highways back in may 2019 with no indication why as there was no 'check engine light' and it was taken back to the dealer and whatever they told me to repair i did. it continued sporadically stalling (losing power down to under 30mph)in june, july, august & now september-during this time we have replaced the battery, change the filters, finally tuning up the car last week wednesday! didn't drive it thursday-monday now this morning tuesday it stalled and start losing power again! still no check engine light and now after taking it back to the dealer this morning i was just called by conicelli service rep telling me the transmission is gone!!! at 125000 - 5yrs old ! this is unacceptable because this is our 8th nissan and all the previous ones last up to 27700 miles and never replaced a transmission!! this is definitely a lemon and nissan usa needs to do something! replace the transmission or buy it back!!

I puchased the vehicle in 7/2016 used with 47,000 miles. never ran great. needed new cvt transmission at 63000. miles. was repaired .. now 99,347. miles failure of cvt trasmission again. car only 5 years old. dealer says not their problem vehicle stopped at a light. would not accelerate when stepped on pedal. cars driving toward me in anticipation of me moving put me in grave and dire harms way

Cvt transmission shutters, slips and shuts down the engine when stopping. diagnostic was performed at dealership and resulted in bad transmission. also passenger airbag deactivates intermittently even while someone is sitting

When coming to a stop sign or a red light the car shuts dow. and the car bucks when you try to start it again. after several attempts it may ot may not start again. the car was in motion when this happened.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. while driving at low speeds, the accelerator pedal was applied, but the vehicle slowed down and stopped. in addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to san leandro nissan (1152 marina blvd, san leandro, ca 94577, (510) 826-1462) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 37771869. the failure mileage was 97,000. the vin was invalid.

Jerks when turning on won't turn on inconsistent battery and check engine light will feel jerky and has jerked forward at stop light when my foot was on brake pedal has jerked in reverse while in drive and vice versa amongst other concerns. very inconsistent with this very unpredictable have already gotten serviced 2 times under warranty and purchased from certified preowned nissan dealership etc docs can be provided upon request

Transmission will go back and forth between dying and reviving up. seems to be a very common problem, but no recalls. per nissan now, the transmission is dead and needs to be replaced.

After driving for a little while there would be no warning no lights come on and i would come to a stop at a light, stop sight, or traffic and then when i go to accelerate again it would not do anything for about 5-10seconds then would eventually take off at a high rate this is very dangerous and there is no stopping it if a car is coming from another direction it could easily end up in a very bad accident and there is no stopping it

Acceleration issues. sporadically the car will do nothing when we step on the accelerator. it is dangerous because it happens randomly and we essentially have zero power to move. after holding the accelerator down for a number of seconds the car will then abnormally start to accelerate and rev up on rpms but will not accelerate as normal. it's as if the transmission is thoroughly confused. i continued to drive the car and it could never get over 60 mph regardless of how far i stepped on the accelerator. i have video of the behavior. the issue continues at random times and we feel incredibly unsafe when we are in traffic because the car will idle forward but do nothing even when accerator is depressed. i took it to the dealer with video of the vehicles crazy behavior; they have told me that the computer says nothing is wrong with it. they tell me to continue to drive until it gets worse. this is not acceptable because we are at risk of an accident when you try to accelerate but the car does nothing but idle forward; it catches us off guard and we are concerned about idling into on coming traffic when making turns. i have contacted nissan who said they have no interest in watching the video and that the computer indicates nothing wrong with my car. we are incredibly worried about driving this car and feel nissan is covering up an issue. it was admitted to me by the dealer that this is a common problem with many of their cvts; it is evident in consumer information on the internet as well. i get the impression nissan has no interest in the safety of the community; starting with the fact that neither the dealer nor consumer affairs has interest in watching the videos showing the very serious issue. i can provide video to nhtsa upon request. thank you.

The vehicle was in motion when the rpm dial started to move up and down and the car started to slip gears. the car was unable to go into top gear, struggled to go up hills, began shifting gears erratically, and could not acelerate past 40 miles per hour. the car felt very hurky jerky and the ride was the oppposite of smooth. this persisted for over several miles. i got the car to the nissan dealership the next day. according to a class action lawsuit i am involved in that nissan lost, on june 9, 2019, nissan was supposed to fix this issue, but they are refusing to make amends for the issue with the transmission on my car. the case is christopher gann et al. v. nissan north america, case number 3:18-cv-00966, in the u.s. district court for the middle district of tennessee. my car is at the rockland nissan dealership right now at 845 -358-6700 and they want us to pay for them to diagnose the car because the car is out of warranty even though according to the legal deal they made they are supposed to extend our warranty 24 months or 24,000 miles and pay for any servicing of our transmission. https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/consumer-products/auto-news/901515-nissan-altima-transmission-defect-class-action-settlement-reached/ https://www.law360.com/articles/1167149

Car in motion at the time when it started jerking, car was in reverse to get out of parking spot. stepped on gas petal continued on the road, started jerking worse as the car turned onto exit. car pulled over and stopped.

Shakes when taking off, when hitting the gas it doesn't want to go anywhere. shutters and vibrates. when it first started i was driving down the street

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. while driving 70 mph, the transmission downshifted, the engine revved, and the vehicle decelerated. the engine lost power when the vehicle approached a stop sign. in addition, the steering wheel vibrated. the contact was able to gain control of the vehicle after it was turned off and restarted. also, the "m6" message appeared on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but no failure codes appeared. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 74,000. *tr*jb

Vehicle shudders when coming to a stop, then shuts down. on occasion will not re engage into gear without shutting down and then must be towed( twice has died in the middle lane of a road, needing to be towed). generally occurs when slowing down but has also happened when trying to accelerate. nissan dealership claims there are no known issues with these transmissions and are unable to replicate issue.

The car stalled and shut itself down when stopped at red signal light. car was able to start but kept stalling and shutting itself down as soon as the car was put in drive or reverse or drive sport.

Driving on interstate the engine changed to low gear and had to pull over ...it shakes and hesitates when accelerate...'...less than 80,000 miles on this car..continues to shudder and stall. nissan is not wanting to do anything ..there has been bulletins on 2014 nissan altimas and even repairs done in other states where nissan paid for service.. the dealership reset but said the transmission will only get worse . cvt

Whining transmission occurs at high speeds

Transmisson abruptly stalling in stop and go traffic at highway stop or red light

Car shaking coming to a stop then cut off

When i was driving my car started grinding as if the engine wanted to shut down or the transmission i was getting ready to get on the freeway and i could barely move it was in gear it wouldn't do it in low gear either i will come to a stop light or stop sign because i was trying to make it home which was 5 miles away, and it would just barely inch out sometimes it won't even start for about 45 seconds to a minute to go into drive and the rpms at 25 miles an hour would hit up to five rpm's the whole time driving,i take really good care of my car in for this to happen to my transmission is not ok and then i started looking up that this is common in my car so why haven't you done any recalls? it all starts at 70,000 miles but there is no recalls for that because you only have your warranty is up to 60,000 miles which is a good thing because you know that the transmissions going to go out after 60,000 miles, anyway i barely got my car back to my home and i have a mechanic look at it and it's going to cost me almost $4500 to get my transmission fixed, and i still owe 16,000 on it. i don't know what's going on with your nissan ultima's but looking up online mine is not the first one that this is happened to so therefore since i can't drive a car because i can't afford to pay all that money, and then i also am out of work because i need a car to drive back-and-forth, i am going to find an attorney that will do a class action lawsuit against you guys for the vehicles doing this! what is happening is not ok, and should never happen but with everything i looked up online there are hundreds of nissan altima's 2014's around 70,000 miles that the transmission is going out this is a problem and it needs to be addressed!

Cvt transmission failure

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle hesitated and the battery warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle failed to accelerate as the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle was towed to banister nissan of norfolk (1250 n military hwy, norfolk, va 23502) where it was diagnosed that the cvt failed. the contact was informed that the transmission needed replacement and the cvt needed reprogramming. the nissan manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that the extended warranty expired in december of 2018; however, there was an open service campaign number: pc490 (cvt reprogram). the contact stated that she had not received notification of the open service campaign. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 97,000.

As my vehicle passed 60,000 miles few more hundred and transmission failed. they make the worst transmission

My car started "sputtering" and shutting off when in motion or coming to a stop. the car then started to rev the engine between 2-3rpm when i was driving at a constant speed. when i was driving on a major highway, the car revved past 4rpm and completely shut off without warning. i was luckily able to stop the car, but no one should ever have to endure that dangerous and potentially catastrophic event. i took my car to the nissan dealer and they said that my transmission needed to be replaced. it is apparent that nissan had knowingly sold cars with faulty transmissions that would fail far before an acceptable time with many consumers facing the high cost of repairing the transmission. as i was hoping this was a one-off situation and that no one else experienced this, but it looks like this is a frequent complaint for the nissan altima 2014. nissan should be held responsible for the transmission replacement and extend their power train warranty to 120,000 miles or 10 years as they have for their car models from 2003-2010.

Transmission, called "throw away transmission" by 3 different mechanics. code came on during freeway driving. have been told by 3 mechanics (including the nissan dealer) nothing can be done but replace the transmission.

I have a 2014 nissan altima that revs up while i;m driving and then stops. i turn it off and start it again. it does this constantly. it's very dangerous because i'm driving and all of a sudden, i hear a revving up sound, the car starts to hesitate,, it slows down and then comes to a complete stop. it doesn;t give me a chance to pull off the road. i have to immediately put on my hazard lights. it stops without warning. once i hear the revving up sound, within a few seconds she hesitates, slows down and come to a complete stop. very, very dangerous. the car hesitates when making turns also. car does not accelerate if you stop at a light like she suppose to. let me explain. when i'm at a red light and the light turns green, i put my foot on the gas and the car does not accelerate, she hesitates, go slowly, then kicks in and allows you to proceed. i'm very afraid to drive it. i have heard others and on the news say peoples experience with their nissan altima shutting down just like mine. for me its shutting down everywhere. it's happened on the highway, street, always when in motion, during turns, after stopping at a red light and its time to proceed. i've almost gotten hit by other cars many times when she suddenly stalls. something is wrong with this vehicle. i don't have video of incident because it hasn't had an accident yet, but i'm sure an accident can happen at any day. i'm nervous every time i drive it. it's the mercies of god that i haven't had an accident. please note i was almost in an accident that would have badly injured or killed me when i was making a left turn on hwy 78. the car stalled while making a left turn. the suv almost hit me as i was making my left turn and the car stalled and the suv stopped just as it was about to hit me. i was shaken up so badly, i had to park my car and calm my nerves. this shouldn't be happening. it's a dangerous car.

Cvt dtc code p17f0 brought the car to the dealer to have the cvt fluid changed at the 60,000 mile service. the dealer showed me the dtc code indicating that there is a cvt problem. the dealer also stated that when the 2014 altima with an l33 engine came out, nissan was changing the cvt because the code indicates an imminent failure. the dealer stated that since then because it cost nissan too much, nissan has started to rebuild the cvt and the dealers have a trained mechanic to rebuild the cvt and correct the cvt judder code. the dealer stated they would contact nissan and advise what how nissan will correct the deficiency. now over 2 weeks, the dealer has not returned my phone calls to advise how nissan will handle. my wife drives the car with my young daughter and i travel for work. i am now concerned the cvt will be problems when i am away and could inadvertently cause a traffic accident when she is driving if the cvt fails. this should be a safety campaign that the nhtsa takes on and pursues. nissan knows about their problems and eventually when there is a failure on the highway someone will get killed or it has already happened and the causal factors have not been identified attributed to the accident. this is a major safety concern and it seems like nissan is not concerned or performing a recall just as the way nissan is handling the takata air bag problems in their cars. further, it is extremely interesting that when the car has been in for pas service, the other nissan dealers did not do the quick simple check of the codes to ensure there were no problems. wouldn't it benefit them as it could produce business?? how stupid and poor service we receive from the dealers.

Replaced transmission at 84000 miles at a cost of $4100 because of shuddering and stalling. at 100600 miles and 11 months later the transmission failed the exact same way again. nissan would not cover the cost of another replacement. it cost me another $1050 with the help of the dealer and nissan who know they have a totally faulty transmission and won't acknowledge. it stalled and shutterdat a highway intersection and was a dangerous problem. i am lucky i wasn't smashed into on the highway.

This is the second transmission issue i've had in less than a year. the car began shaking in february and stopped on me while at a stop light. there have been no check engine lights or anything to alert me of an issue. now the car will hesitate severly before shifting gears. if i take the care out of park into drive or reverse, it takes upwards of 30 seconds for the car to engage into that gear. i have been stranded at home and at grocery stores due to the faulty transmission which i'm now being told needs to be replaced. i have had to endure random moments of shaking and even feeling as if the car has died while driving on the freeway. there have been no indicator lights regarding any issues with the car the car is less than 5yrs old and is a little over 100k miles i have been having transmission issues now for about almost a year.

The transmission is delayed once it gets to 2000 rpm and is not changing over

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled at a stop light. the engine revved, but the vehicle would not accelerate. the dealer (crown nissan of decatur, 165 w pershing rd, decatur, il 62526, (217) 615-1047) diagnosed that there was internal transmission failure. the dealer and manufacturer opened a case and agreed to reimburse the contact for 90% of the repair cost. the repair would consist of installing a re-manufactured transmission covered by a 12 month or 12,000 mile warranty. the contact researched online and found that there was a class action lawsuit filed against the manufacturer because the re-manufactured transmission had a history of failing. the failure mileage was 68,000. *bf update 2/20/19*jb

Cvt failed on the highway with 90,500 miles on car. vehicle was in motion at highway speed then suddenly slowed almost to a stop. dealer tried to perform the cvt programming recall but said transmission was shot. $4,500 to replace. one owner car all highway miles.

Don't have to really say much because it's pretty much all over the internet but that transmission is a piece of junk!! it was slipping repeatedly from around 50,000-104,000 when i got rid of it. it would also stall out (yes on a cvt) from time to time in stop and go traffic. it got to a point that i was scared i was going to be stuck with a car with no resale valve (because of the transmission) and owe a $14,000 payoff balance with the bank. so i traded it in and got a f-150.i believe all jatco transmissions should go under an investigation because this is not safe for american roads.

My transmission failed after only 85,000 miles. i was stopped at a highway exit ramp stop light when it failed.

At 53,000 miles the transmission would no longer function.transmission had to be replaced.at about 130,000 miles i notice that when headlights were on low beam you could barely see the road at night time.so i did some research on thi vehicle what i found out was on nissan altimas manufactured between 2013 -2015 have the same problem.you do not have sufficient lighting on low beam.you have to use high beam on dark roads.this is a major safety issue with these vehicles.i have had the nissan dealership in my local area new port richey put in the exact bulbs car came with from factory same issue poor lighting on low beam.i then had nissan dealership put in bulbs that i purchased on line these bulbs put out 8000 lumens and these bulbs are led bulbs.the factory nissan bulbs put out 1200 lumens and are halogen bulbs.both sets of bulbs i got same result insuffiecient lighting on low beam.the nissan technician told me i would have to replace both headlight assemblies at a cost of $700.00.i feel these headlight lens were a manufacturing defect without question therefore i feel nissan should be held liable for replacing the defective parts.i have receipts from dealership for work performed.i have also filed a complaint with the bbb autoline dept, and filed a compaint with nissan consumer affairs.this is a very hazardous situation and god forbid someone will lose their life over something like this.

Have had jerking and shuddering problems while trying to excel, several months after purchasing my car in 2016. at that time it had approx.24,000 miles on it, the dealership took care of the transmission issue. i just recently took it back again with the same issue the car had no power when trying to excel onto the highway ,and was very hesitant and unsafe. the transmission had to be completely replaced! the vehicle only has 43,000 miles on it ,which leaves me very concerned, and with my warranty almost up. i am very concerned as i see this is an obvious problem with this vehicle, that i consider still new.

Transmission is done. shuddering under power and rpms all over the place.

The car is 4 years old and shut off in the middle of the road. this is not a safe vehicle and nissan should be held responsible.

My car was loosing power and dying when put into gear or shortly after trying to go. thought it may be a alternator problem as i was loosing power. turns out it was the transmission. found out that my transmission was reprogrammed one year ago and now it needs a new transmission and only has 73,000 miles. i feel like this is a safety issue because when i placed the car in gear and started moving and it died on me crossing a major highway. no warning signs beforehand that anything was going on with the car.

The car suddenly shut off while driving on the highway. it did not restart right away. after trying several times the car started. also, it would slow down while driving up hill until the car stopped. after waiting several minutes and flooring the gas petal the car continued forward. my safety concern is the car suddenly shutting down while driving on a highway. the car was checked out by a mechanic today, he said the transmission needs to be replaced.

My vehicle has been sputtering and jerking since i first purchased it. i have taken it to my local dealership and they kept dismissing me saying there are no warnings dash lights on . the car died in a store parking lot and i had it towed to a local shop. the codes indicated a tech service bulletin that states "needs a new transmission". now my local dealership is denying this is the correct code and it only needs some minor adjusting. i have been dealing with this for over a year and now my power train warrant expires in less than 100 miles. initially they agreed with me and told me it needs the transmission replaced, but now they have denied it. i do not feel safe in this vehicle. it sputters, jerks, hesitates and loses acceleration and it is scary to have to drive it. i do not know where to go from here.
