Once my 2018 jeep wrangler hit over 16.5k miles, when driving over 60 mph and hit a bump in the road, the steering wheel/wheels shake vigorously and the only way to stop is to bring the speed below 60 mph, which is very unsafe when driving on the highway. i am also now noticing that the steering/suspension feels different when traveling on secondary roads when hitting bumps on the road. this started 2 weeks ago was minor and is continuing to get worse.
At highway speeds, going over any bridge transition or seam results in an almost uncontrollable shaking in the front end that can only be stopped by slowing down to about 40 mph. this is extremely dangerous in traffic at highway speed.
During highway driving, between 70-75 mph, when i hit a defect in the road, the car will begin to shake violently. sometimes it stops when i decelerate, but other times, i have to pull off on to the shoulder. my jeep was leased in august 2018. i first noticed the shaking in november. i have alerted my dealership's service department.
Death wobble. vehicle has been in twice to get fixed. once for a month. now we have less than 4000 miles on it and it is still there. we have a horrifying video also.
Death wobble. when hitting a bump at highway speeds, the steering wheel will shake side to side violently until the jeep has slowed to around 40-45 mph. steering is still possible but very limited. this happens when going straight or during turns at 55+ mph. this started when the vehicle had 3,800 miles. i have had the jeep into the dealer 3 times. the steering stabilizer was replaced, then the tires were balanced. now they are investigating tie rod ends and other possible causes.

While in motion on the highway, a violent shaking occurs on the stock jeep wrangler unlimited all new jl 2018 with minimal transition from pavement to a different pavement or bridge transition. violent shaking in the steering wheel and wheels lasts for 15-20 seconds while traveling the distance of a football field or more. very hard to keep control of the vehicle and not have a potential catastrophic accident. same issue as prior jk model complaints of the 'death wobble'. this has occurred 3 times with under 5,000 miles on this brand new vehicle. no modifications have been done to the jeep. tie rod in front connected to the right passenger side wheel has a slight back and forth movement when moved by hand while wheels are aligned straight forward in the parked position. other side does not have the same give when i tried to see if it would move. another person on the jeep wrangler forum online is experiencing the same problem at about the same mileage on the jl.
My new jl jeep has a death wobble when i hit small bumps or drive on freeway that has the small bumps going across the lane. the steering wheel starts shaking violently feels like i'm going to crash. i have to slow down and almost pull over.
My jeep is six months old with approx 11100 miles. recently while driving at speeds of 60 or higher, when i hit a bump on the highway my steering wheel violently shakes until i ease off the gas and/or slow down.
Leased the jeep wrangler jl in october 2019. within 3 weeks, the "jeep wobble" occurred on the highway at a speed of 65 mph. going over a bridge, the car hit a connector in road and started shaking violently. i was in the left lane and had to slow the car down immediately as it felt out of control, causing cars behind me to brake. i moved over a lane and the car stopped shaking once i slowed down below 50mph. i brought the car in to dealership and was told it's not under recall and it's not a safety issue. i completely disagree that it's not a safety issue as dodging cars on the highway in order to slow my car down while it shakes violently is clearly a safety issue for everyone on the road. the dealership installed a dampener. i finally got the car back after a week and within days, the same thing happened on the highway. i brought the car back in to the dealership where i was told they were contacting chrysler to see if they installed the part correctly. my car was there for another week while they waited for chrysler to return their phone call. they installed a stronger part, i was told and then finally had my car back. within a couple of weeks, the wobble happened again. i dropped the car back at the dealership last week on 2/13 where it remains. i have not received word on what is being done at this point. extremely frustrating as we are leasing this car and it's been at the dealership for almost 4 weeks total, which is one month payment without me even driving the car. we are looking into lemon law since this particular vehicle is not part of any recall. again, this is a major safety concern for the driver and passengers in the car. i have 2 kids that travel with me in that jeep and am never comfortable driving on the highway as i never know when that violent shake will happen.
Vehicle exhibits vague, wandering steering. it could be described as jittery under certian conditions like bumpy roads while passing trucks. more alarming is the so called death wobble that occurs under certain conditions while traveling at high speed on highways and will not subside until the vehicle speed is reduced drastically to an unsafe speed for interstate travel.
While driving at 55-75 mph, when hitting a bump, the wheels start bouncing erratically and the steering wheel shakes violently. the only way to get it to stop is to slow down to 40-50 mph. out of all the cars and trucks i've ever driven, i've never experienced anything even close to this. everyone in the car freaked out and now no-one in my family will drive the car. it's a new wrangler, still < 10,000 miles and no modifications to anything - completely stock. this has happened about 20-25 times. our recent 3 hour drive on the expressway, it happened 4 times.
My 2018 jeep wrangler jl has developed what appears to be a 'death wobble ' after approximately 5000 - 7000 miles.
The steering wheel and front end will start shaking at higher speed after hitting some small bump. it's getting so bad i've to slow way down on the freeway to get the jeep back under control. it wobbles from one side of the lane to the other. it's at the dealership now but they don't know what'ss truly wrong with the jeep. the jeep is new with less then 13000 miles. it's also the new jl modle
My 2018 jeep jl has had non stop issues with the "death wobble" so much that i have had to park this vehicle and not drive it . it has been in three times for repairs , each time promised a fix would occur. last week i was driving on the interstate between work and home, and i hit a regular uneven pavement one would drive over everyday , and the vehicle resonated so much that it pushed me into the left lane.. luckily no one was there but decided to park the vehicle till the next scheduled fix on 11/18. after receiving the vehicle back the instability is still there and resonates when going over any unevenness in roads. i have created a case with jeep waive (case number 68188061) and called jim cogdill dodge dealership in knoxville tn whom has repaired the front end the last three times . i was told on 11/22 that the dealership just got notice by a official chrysler notification that the recall fix for the death wobble is not fixing the instability in the front end ,and in some cases making it worse. they have been told to stop fixing the cars until a new part/fix is released by chrysler. i now have a car that i cannot drive, purchase new just last year and have lost all trust in the safety of this car. i am looking for help to solution and help others whom are in my same situation. additionally, my vehicle computer has messed up and is showing almost 1 million miles (999,999) . this complaint is also part of my case as i cannot sale my vehicle, or be legal with the odometer in current status.

2018 jeep wrangler unlimited sahara with 9000 miles on it. just started experiencing extreme steering wheel shaking and suspension wobble at highway speeds after going over a bump. has now happened 6 times in the last week. only way to stop it is to slow down or stop.
The vehicle experiences severe wobbling over bumps to the point that the entire car and steering wheel shakes uncontrollably to the point where is risks a crash. this condition is present at normal highway speeds.
My 2 month old sahara has experienced violent shaking and vibrations through the steering/suspension system on multiple occasions. the car is not safe to drive. i delivered my sahara to the dealer, auto world of petaluma on 10/29. auto world kept my car to address the problem returning it after replacing the tires on 10/8. on 10/9 my car again experienced what i now know is called 'death wobble.' i took my car out on the morning of 10/10 and again experienced 'death wobble.' because auto world told me it could not replicate the death wobble in my car i took it out on the freeway and made two video tapes of the steering wheel during death wobble. i then returned my car to the service manager at auto world and showed him the videos. the service manager told me he after seeing the video that he thought jeep had resolved the death wobble problem with jeep's years ago. that was the first time i had heard the term death wobble. i told the manager where to take the car to experience death wobble. death wobble initiated in my car while traveling at freeway speeds when encountering any type of change of conditions like going from an asphalt to concrete surface at a bridge overpass/underpass on the freeway. after returning my car to the service manager on 11/10 i was directed to several different jeep complaint teams. i was altimately put in contact with representative ford from the jeep resolution team in dallas texas. ford told me to be patient as it would take him 1 to 30 days to address my claim. i originally spoke with ford almost 3 weeks ago. i volunteered to send him my videos and emails with the dealer however he declined to accept them and would not give me contact information where i could send the material i had accumulated. despite multiple calls to ford i have not heard from him since 11/20. my car for which i paid cash is not safe to drive.
I made an error on the dates on my earlier submission, compkaint number 11155434. in the 4th sentence i said 10/8, it should be 11/8. in the 5th sentence i said 10/9, it should be 11/9. in the 6th sentence i said 10/10, it should be 11/10. i purchased my sahara from auto world on a fully paid cash basis as a new vehicle under full factory warranty on 9/1/2018. the events reported were first experienced on 10/27/2018 although the death wobble has happened multiple times since 10/27/2018. auto world has had my car in its shop since 10/29/2018 for all but the late afternoon of 11/8, 11/9 and the morning of 11/10. auto world still has my car. i can not and will not drive my paid for car with my grand children or anyone else in the car due to the gravity of the problem and safety concerns.
When driving on the highway at speeds around 70-75 mph the vehicle will hit a bump and the steering and jeep will start shaking violently for 3-6 seconds or until vehicle slows down. at highway speeds this is a long distance. driving is unsafe when this occurs. one place in particular is extremely dangerous is a bridge transition on pellissippi parkway the bridge transition is on an uphill turn and it is hard to keep the steering wheel in the correct placement to stay in the lane. there is a barrier on one side and traffic on the other. the steering wheel is shaking and the entire jeep is shaking. the problem started occurring with 14,000 miles on the jeep
My 2018 jeep wrangler jl experienced the jeep "death wobble" on the freeway at speeds above 60 mph after running over minor pavement imperfections. the wobble was so severe each time i had to pull off the freeway onto the berm and come to a complete standstill for the wobble to stop. the wobble occurred four times in three days. i purchased the vehicle on 03/30/2018. the death wobble manifested in early october, 2018. i took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection within a week. the only problem discovered was the tires were all out of balance. the dealer balanced the tires. today is november 20. so far, the death wobble has not reoccurred.
My jeep wrangler jl with under 7000 miles begins to shake violently at hwy speeds between 50 -65. this violent front end shaking, shakes the whole jeep making it difficult to steer and control. shaking will stop once you slow down to a slow speed or come to a complete stop. it was so bad my children, who were in jeep for one instance, were scared and visablely shaken from the experience. this had now happen 5 times in a the span of a week. *dt consumer stated tire was replaced but vehicle was still shaking. updated 12/13/18*jb
This vehicle has "death wobble" as it has been called. when driving at highway speeds and hitting a bump, bridge joint, or imperfection in the road, the front end violently shakes. if loosen grip on wheel it gets worse. it will continue for miles shaking the vehicle excessively. only way to stop the shaking is to slow to about 50 mph. started at about 12, 400 miles. took to shop and their guy called it death wobble.the more you drive the worse it gets, and in nov about 14th or so they had me come in and put a aftermarket hd steering stabilizer on it.it worked for about 1500 miles then the wobble returned.i reported it and on the 17th dec they had me come in and put factory stabilizer bar on and toed in my front alignment. that worked for two days. wobble came back and i reported it. the more i drive the worse it gets. i went to shop on 31 dec to see what we are doing. they said they would get back to me. problem is not stabilizers and toe alignment. geometric and something is wearing out causing all this.the effectiveness of stabilizers are lasting less each time. band aid for the bigger issue.i have owned 18 jeeps and have 4 currently, all wrangler/tj/cj. none have done this or do this.modified or not. and this new 2018 jl is stock.
On september 14, 2018, i leased my brand new jeep jl sahara 2018. i signed up for jeep app and immediately noticed a recall for my car - 2018 jl track bar weld, raising concern. on october 21, 2018, with less than 1000 miles, i was driving on local highway at @ 60mph, hit a bump and my entire steering/front of car began violently shaking. i immed. slowed down to hope re-align and gain control of steering/car. it was the most frightening experience as i was going 60, had to slow to 35, while others were speeding up behind me, in addition to being scared & feeling unsafe in an out of control car. i called jeep downingtown immed. on 10/22 to bring car in that week - 10/26. i looked it up and clearly is the known issue called the "death wobble". on 10/25, again on highway @ 65-70 mph, i hit a bump, experienced a yet worse violent shaking/out of control steering of my car. i pulled over as could not gain control slowing down. i got back on highway only to experience it yet again! i was shaking, scared as i could have been killed in addition to others!! i immed. called jeep dt and brought car into service. it is now 28 days and my car is still in service!!!. my experience with the dealer has been nothing but a nightmare. they tried 1) recall, 2) service software bulletin update, 3) steering stabilzer part and 4) tie rod part, none fixed problem. i last heard from them on 11/9 when they ordered tie rod - 13 days ago, unacceptable! i filed a case with jeep chrysler fca on 11/3- #57311328 and have had poor response. i have documented every day. i filed complaint with pa attorney general, no response. i have contacted lemon law lawyer and will be pursing action. all i want/deserve is to drive a safe car, as i'm paying for that! as nhtsa i hope you can ensure jeep takes these cars off the road and refunds us to ensure no one gets killed!
When driving on the highway on an overpass or any bump my jeep shakes uncontrollably and feels as though all four wheels are going to fall off, have to put hazards on and reduce speed quickly, has been at dealership multiple times for steering damper which has not fixed the problem, very unsafe to drive
On 10-10-18 (15000miles) i started to experience a death wobble that was getting worse very quickly. i took it to my dealership and they had it for 31 days. they said it was a problem in one of my tires. i drove it 200 more miles and it started again. i called them back and they told me that crystler said there was no fix for it and it was still safe. as it continued to get worse, i called crystler, and they had their tech reach out to my dealership (took 3 weeks). they said they needed to install an after market stabalizer bar, which they did - and as i drove away and on to the interstate the jeep went violently out of control and i was almost hit by 4-5 other vehicles on the interstate. i was almost killled. i drove right back to the dealership and explained as i was shaking with tears from fear. this has been almost 2 months and they are refusing to give me a loaner. my responses and lack of urgency on this is beyond legal. i am not safe in a $50k brand new vehicle. please someone do something about this very soon, it isn't just jeep owners, it is whomever might be driving around them on interstates and highways.
I have approximately 6,000 miles on my brand new 2018 jl wrangler rubicon that has the mopar factory 2" lift, installed by the dealer. the mopar lift was installed appropriately, but yet the springs are curved, bent, and not straight. chrysler put out a statement that this is normal, as basically all mopar lift installed on the new jl wrangler has bent springs. this is only the beginning, because now my brand new jl wrangler has death wobble. if you are in a vehicle that has death wobble, you would know why they call it death wobble. at varying speeds, mostly in the 35 to 45mph range, a small bump on the road causes the steering wheel and the tires to violently and uncontrollably go back and forth. the only way to stop this is to brake and slow down quickly. as you can imagine, if someone in front of you brakes suddenly, it can be very dangerous. the dealership will not fix the lift as they say curved springs are normal. they diagnosed the main problem to be a steering stabilizer, which is no back order. so, a company makes a defective product that puts the general public in danger, and their part to fix the problem is on back order. the steering stabilizer, according to mechanics is a band aid fix and really doesn't fix the main problem. even the "jeep guy" at the dealership indicated that it isn't a steering stabilizer.
Vehicle shakes uncontrollably back and forth after hitting bump or change in pavement height at highway speed (60 to 70 mph). this started after roughly 2800 miles (6 weeks of ownership). this causes a loss of steering control and feeling that driver will lose control of vehicle. this has happened 4 times in last six days. vehicle was taken to dealer who says they cannot find problem or recreate this loss of steering control. after hitting bump yesterday the only thing that stopped back and forth shaking was to pull to side of interstate highway. this situation is extremely dangerous. while this loss of steering control and shaking does not occur at slower speeds (yet), i believe this vehicle is completely unsafe to drive and will eventually cause a serious crash if it cannot be fixed.
It started with the 'death wobble' driving interstate speed, 65, over a bridge and go overing one of the bridge spans spacers.the "death wobble" is a very dangerous vibration that occurs in the front end of a vehicle. when a vehicle experiences death wobble, the entire steering system rapidly turns back and forth, making controlling the vehicle very hard. the only way to stop the death wobble once it starts is to slow the vehicle down until normal steering control is restored. at 65 the whole jeep shock and my wife and i were quite scared. i put hazards on and slowed to about 10 mph and the wobble stopped. a few days from then we took the new 2018 jeep wrangler unlimited with 3000 miles into the jeep dealer service department. they were able to replicate the death wobble. then upon investigation the discovered 'about 10 nuts and bolts that were finger tight'. exact words from the dealer. they commented they were going to report this issue as well. so between this and the pending recall of the 'tracking bar bracket', i am scared of al the welds on the vehicle as well as all the bolts now. *dt consumer stated even though the bolts were tightened it still wobbles. updated 12/12/18*jb
Front track bar welds are of poor quality, porous, lack of penetration and not continuous as a weld should be. welds apprear as unsafe welds for holding the track bar in place while driving the vehicle. all other welds on vehicle have rust showing on leading edges and also lack of penetration on welds thought out the weld bead. vehicle is garage kept with 195 total miles.
I have not had an issue with the faulty track bar weld as of yet, but i am absolutely not driving until a fix/replacement has occurred. i have 3 children and i have to think about their safety and mine. i cannot imagine how this problem can be satisfactorily fixed. obviously cannot put a band aid on it
Ua5/nhtsa 18v-675 track bar weld recall. i had the required inspection done two weeks ago, but dealer won't do the welding. i have been trying to make jeep customer service make the local dealer fix this very serious issue, but nothing happens. i've even tried a dealer 1 hour 40 minute drive from me here in arizona, they won't do it either.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 jeep wrangler. while driving between 50-75 mph, the front end of the vehicle occasionally experienced the "death wobble". after driving over a bump in the road, the front end of the vehicle would violently wobble and shake. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (robert loehr jeep, 567 e. main st. cartersville, ga) where it was diagnosed that the control arm was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 9,000.
Unsettling wobble ,shake at highway speeds while changing lanes and hitting a bump , 2 different steering dampers installed ,problem still exist , dealership is in denial . i'm a certified master mechanic ,this vehicle is unsafe , i believe chrysler knows this , according to reports ,no one has died yet ,but someone is going too
Extreme wobble and shaking at highway speeds which continues well past the road imperfections that caused the specific type of suspension travel. started under 1000 miles. happens several times every workday - can be replicated. this vehicle is completely stock and brand new. if driving around a slight turn with small bumps the vehicle starts shaking violently and keeps shaking for 20-30 seconds until the traveling speed is reduced to 50 mph which is not a safe speed at times. 2 steady hands must be on the steering wheel to maintain control and changing lanes is not possible. had to make an avoidance maneuver during the shaking and almost lost control while traveling 60 mph. this car is not safe to operate and the problem happens multiple times per day. unknown components and parts cause the extreme shaking/wobbling. this statement is to document the problem; there will be videos and repair invoices in the future but several dealerships have told me there are no fixes for the problem called death wobble. i am currently on a "waiting list" for a repair attempt. i will call for an update with the dealership 11/30/18. the tires are stock and at proper pressure. there have been no modifications to the vehicle.
I purchased this 2018 unlimited in june, brand new, with under 500 miles it took to drive it from mi. at approx. 15,000 miles i heard a rattle, that sounded like a loose heat shield, took it in and techs found nothing, said no heat shields. within about 2 weeks i was driving on the highway, at highway speed, as i came over bridge crossings my jeep would shake uncontrollably and i was not able to steer. at first it would only happen occassionally, then it got worse, to the point of moving out of the lane i was driving in and into the berm and/or into the lane next to me. the whole jeep would shake uncontrollably for longer than 1-3 minutes. i did notice that if crossing over bridges in a straight away, the wobble was less severe than if i was in a slight curve, or angle. also, i did notice that if i took my foot off the gas pedal before, during and for a short period after bridges, the jeep doesn't have the wobble as often. this may need to be checked, the techs are replacing parts they are being told to by jeep, but jeep doesn't know what is causing the death wobble, maybe it isn't directly relayed to only the front steering damper.
Death wobble!!! my brand new jeep with only 9400 miles on her goes into such an almost uncontrollable shake when on highway after i hit a bump. my speed is at approx 65-70. dealer telling me not 'their problem'
While driving on highway the jeep wrangler starting shaking badly , wobbbling, had to dealership twice same thing happening while driving on highway
My jeep has been drifting and steering has been awful on highway, esc and service lights came on. all welds under the vehicle are absolutely horrible, and i absolutely do not feel safe risking my life and my child's life in this vehicle with welds and components that look as if they will break or fail at any moment
Moving, interstate & extremely busy highway. sometimes in a turn, sometimes going straight. hit a bump such as a highway or interstate bridge and vehicle and front end shake and shimmy. requires you to slow down to under minimum interstate speed from 70 +- to 30 +- for shaking to stop. radio, makes a buzzing sound and resets time. it seems to be shorting out. radio electrical issue happens while moving and stationary.
I purchased on september 14, 2018 that has what is called the "death wobble". it only occurs when driving over 60 miles an hour. it is caused by a faulty steering damper. i brought it in for the first time in december 4, 2018 when i could not gain control of the car and almost wrecked. it was the 6 time it had happened. the car was seized immediately, it was a safety issue. i was told to clean the car out and they couldn't tell me when i would have it returned. i also was having them check the brakes as they had been squeaking. i did not receive the car back until january 8 2019. at that time, i was told it was fine. the brakes continued to squeak and when it snowed, i found out the defroster was not in working order. i was told the defroster part was on back order (still not fixed and its april 1, 2019) and they grinded the pads or rotors due to a glaze on them. the brakes were soft and still squeaking. on february 20 they said they would order new brakes. march 1, brakes locked up and i almost wrecked. i pumped them and they worked after that. i immediately drove the car there and left it. the brakes were replaced, and i picked the car up on the march 7, 2019. march 16, 2019 i was going over the bridge at 65 miles an hour and the "death wobble" started again. i asked my husband to drive it and it did it to him as well at about 65 miles an hour as he went over a bump. we left town on sunday march 17 and did not return until the 22. on march 23, 2019 we brought the car in. the technician confirmed it was the steering wheel damper was faulty again. to this day i still do not have the car and have been told that they have a "new" part. this will be the 3rd time. ddocuments, do not show every time i was in there nor what was really happening. it said my brakes were soft and didn't mention that they locked up and ...
At 3 months old and 3000 miles, my 2018 jl started exhibiting the "death wobble" symptoms. it always happens at a specific highway speed--between 55-70 mph when i hit certain expansion joints on the highway. i feel it in the wheel, and it oscillates throughout the front end of the vehicle. i have to slow down for it to stop. if i don't slow down or pull to the right of the highway, it escalates into a violent shake. the vehicle is completely stock with no modifications. it has never even been off the road. in response, fca issued a replacement steering stabilizer. the replacement stabilizer masked the issue for three weeks, but now the wobble is coming back just as it had before. again, to stop the vehicle i have to slow down to 40-50 mph on the highway. this is extremely dangerous, and fca is being incredibly reluctant to acknowledge and address this serious issue.
Around 7000 miles we started to get a vibration that would last till we slowed down every time we hit a bump with our wrangler jl at highway speed. it has since turned into a violent shake that will literally rattle your teeth. you can feel the shake throughout the whole care and especially on the wheel. the bump in road does not have to be big and can be as small as the place where the road connects to an overpass. having to slow down to around 40 mph to get it to stop when all other traffic is traveling 60+ mph is scary and we are now worried for our safety. have taken the vehicle in to our jeep dealer 3 times, but they have not been able to resolve the issue. they did say that they currently have 3 other jl wranglers experiencing the same problem and they have yet to find a solution.
Violent steering wheel shaking and front end steering shaking when driving over road imperfections over 45 mph. loose and wandering steering resulting in multiple steering corrections to remain straight in line on a flat straight and leveled surface. wrangler was in dealership, not fixed, they seemed like they didn't want to deal with the issue and they are aware of this issue on other new jeeps. this issue has been ongoing since i bought the jeep.
If i hit a bump at highway speeds, the steering wheel and entire front end bump violently until i reduce speed below 40 miles per hour. at that point the shaking stops. during this shaking the car is very difficult to steeer or control. my jeep is new and it began at 2000 miles (maybe the first time i traveled on the highway) and still occurs. i now have 6000 miles. the tires are set to the proper pressure and i have not done any modifications.
Steering is extremely loose and require constant correction to stay in a straight line. there's a huge dead spot in it as well, i feel like i'm in a cartoon driving.
Welds on track bar mount not lined up correctly. throughout the rest of the frame, lots of slag, misaligned welds, bad penetration, malformed weld caps, spatter, and porosity. *dt *tr
