On average, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler starts to “feel” problems with the SUSPENSION and its various aspects after 8 689 miles.

This is regarding what's known in the jeep community as the 'death wobble.' i bought my car brand new in september of 2018, and i've experienced the death wobble. i'll be on the freeway, driving 65+ mph, all of the sudden hit a bump or rumble in the road and then lose control of my steering. the jeep starts vibrating (wobbling) uncontrollably. the only way to stop this is by slowing down enough to come to a stop, which can prove difficult and dangerous on the freeway. this is something i feel should be fixed. my car has never been in an accident, has all new parts since i bought it brand new and shouldn't have this problem.

At highway speeds if i hit a bump i get what those in the jeep community call a death wobble. i have to reduce my speed to a dangerously slow speed, especially during busy morning and afternoon commutes. i have had the stabilizer replaced twice, the 3rd time i went in the service group said they couldn't replicated so they can't do anything any car that has something called a death wobble should not be on the road. its absolutely rediculous that this is a thing. i am in a 9 month old car, 12k miles, this should not be happening today was the last straw - car driving next to me on highway, as i was dealing with the problem opened his window and yelled that my tire was shaking. this needs to be addressed

I've had my vehicle in 3 times for what they call the death wobble. the vehicle is currently still sitting at the dealership as i am waiting a call from the sevice manager. the second time i brought it in they again fixed something on the front end and it was a little better but still now right. now i'm being told that the tires need to be replaced at my expense. the vehicle has only 35,000 miles on the tires. due to the front end problems my tires go bad and i'm supposed to pay for it. i'm told its a wearable item. they would be fine if they weren't cupping due to the front end problem. i have also filed a complaint with chrysler jeep and have heard nothing back from them either. to top it all off, i was stopped by the state highway patrol. they saw it happen on the expressway, were concerned for my safety and stopped me. thank goodness i didn't get a ticket or anything. i'm completely frustrated. the dealership won't help fix it. chrysler jeep has not called me back. i've payed a lot of money for this jeep and can't get it fixed.

I have a 2018 jeep wrangler sport unlimited with 7,000 miles. i have been experiencing a violent shaking when hitting a slight bump in a road traveling anywhere from 45-70 mph. the violent shaking has been so bad that i have had to pull over several times on the highway. i have taken the vehicle to the dealer 5 times for the issue. repairs were made and eventually the steering dampner was replaced. my dealer is now in the process of ordering an aftermarket part to replace the original but that piece is on backorder for several weeks. the violent shaking continues and i feel that it is getting worse and is a safety concern in my opinion as this continues to happen on the highway while traveling the speed limit at 60+ mph. i honestly do not feel safe traveling with my young children and don't feel comfortable with the process my dealership is taking or that the "fix" they have planned will work.

When hitting a bump - i.e. bridge expansion joint - at highway speeds the vehicle's front wheels went into a severe wobble when required an immediate deceleration to alleviate. numerous instances. quite scary in heavy traffic, even for an experienced driver and a former general manager of a five-star chrysler dealership!! extensive research found a number of people having this problem, yet no recall or "fix" from fca has evidently been found. in previous responses from corporate they indicate that it is not a safety issue and i must vehemently disagree. the common term used is "death wobble"!! do we need to wait until an inexperienced driver or innocent fellow traveler becomes a victim?. my jeep is in the shop now awaiting some sort of disposition.

!!! car currently @ dealership for 5th time for same issue !!! when driving @ hwy speeds and hit a bump divot or pothole the entire jeep violently vibrates shakes and sways from front to back. after the latest "fix" now it still vibrates shakes sways and now bounces the vehicle into another lane my family & i nearly hit another vehicle on the hwy on saturday 3/23/19. we have had the vehicle into dealership 4 times since january 2019 for them to fix this issue and fca/dealership have no idea how to remedy this issue. after this last incident on 3/23/19 i don't want my family or myself in this jeep. i was very scary on 3/23/19 being bounced into another lane with other cars right behind and along side of me. it was a white knuckle driving experience i don't want to happen again. its dangerous unsafe alarming & threatening to all drivers!

I have brought my vehicle to the dealership two times for the death wobble. on highways, going 55+ if my car hits an uneven surface or bump, the car shakes uncontrollably until i reduce my speed. it doesn't happen every time, but noticed its when my foot is still on the gas upon hitting these bumps. horrifying - especially driving with children. people driving next to me could see the car doing this at one point

If i run over a bridge expansion joint or bump in the road at highway speeds the front suspension will start shaking and my steering wheel will feel completely loose. sometimes it corrects itself and other times it is such a violent shake you have to reduce your speed down to 40 mph or less until it stops. one incident was when i was exiting the highway and as i was merging in i hit a couple of bumps in the road. it started to shake so violently that i thought i was going to loose control. thankfully i was only doing 35 to 40 mph. it was so bad the person beside me slammed on their brakes. i had to slow down to 15 mph before it stopped. then it was like nothing ever happened.

Jeep wrangler shakes uncontrollably after hitting a bump at highway speeds. need to slow down precipitously to get it to stop shaking. for instance have to slow from 65-70 to 35. usually does it 2-3 times every time i'm on 4 lane highway. had local mechanic look into it. have not had it to dealer yet.

While driving on the interstate around 65 to 70 mph, crossing over bridges or overpasses my steering wheel shakes uncontrollably until i slow down to about 15 mph. this has happened dozens of times the last time i almost sideswiped a tractor trailer. i've taken it to the dealership twice now and the uploaded a program that didnt do anything. i was told no recall yet but others are posting same issues in forums.

At first when traveling at high speeds in cold weather the steering would become extremely stiff when turning left and then it would loosen up quickly causing the vehicle to swerve very badly. the dealership updated the steering modem and it stopped for approximately 3 months. this week when going straight over a bridge on the highway at high speeds the vehicle shook violently (referred to as death wobble) and it felt like the tires were going to fall off. it has been with the dealership for 5 days and i still don't have it back yet.

Violent shaking of the entire vehicle when hitting a bump at highway speed (72mph) shaking is so violent that holding onto the steering wheel is near impossible. to correct the issue the vehicle brakes must be applied with force to slow the vehicle by 30mph or more within seconds, risking a rear end collision at highway speed. this vehicle has no modifications, all parts and accessories are factory installed and maintained. dealership has replaced the steering dampener with issue continuing. this issue has been occurring off and on since approximately 10k miles of use.

At highway speeds after crossing an un-even expansion joint or pothole (straight and sweeping curves) the front end starts violently wobbling/shaking all the way through to the steering wheel. my 2018 wrangler jl 2dr has only 1,030 miles on it and is bone stock other than mopar side steps. this happened 5 times on a 60 mile drive.

Takata recall i purchased a 2018 jeep sahara with 18 miles on it and have brought it to the shop 2 times for death wobble. it still has the issue and its getting worse. the jeep dealership seems to have no answers on how to fix it. the last issue made me slow down to approximately 20mph on the highway nearly resulting in a rear ending accident.

After hitting some minor pot-holes on the highway while going 55-60 mph , the front end of my jeep began shaking violently , making it hard to hold the steering wheel to control the vehicle . i had to come to almost a complete stop to regain control , this has occurred twice , with the dealer changing the steering stabilizer both times . the first time it happened was about a month ago , this time it occurred on 03/08/2019

Death wobble if i hit any little bump or crease in the road. i have to stop the vehicle completely for it to stop. also if i let go of the stearing wheel, yhe vehicle vears off to the right or left.

I bought this brand new and did not modify it. a few months after purchase, it started violently shaking after i hit a bump at highway speeds. on 3/7/19, the dealership replaced the steering wheel dampener. it still wasn't fixed so i brought it in again on 4/12/19 and they replaced the same part. it seemed to fix it for the most part but now it's back to the violently shaking at highway speeds. i have an appointment on thursday 11/7/19 for them to fix it again so i can drive my brand new car. i have read that this is not a safety issue, but i assure you it is. i can't control the steering wheel until i slow down to about 45. going from 65 to 45 on a highway while the whole car is shaking is in fact a hazard. i am going to request copies of my service contracts when i get to the dealership on thursday. if you should need them, i can send them to you.*dt*jb

Death wobble violent left to right shaking in the steering wheel and whole front end of jeep. happens anytime after hitting bump, pothole, bridge joint; on any type of road and speeds from 40mph to 80mph+. issue does not resolve its self until slowing the vehicle down to very low speeds, sometimes as low as 30mph. *no* 'upgrades' or any aftermarket parts/work have been done to the jeep.

When traveling around 65 mph, whenever i hit a pothole or bridge expansion joint the front end of my 2018 wrangler jlu starts to shimmy. on the internet it's given the nickname of "death rattle". the shimmy/vibration lasts from 5 to 10 seconds and sometimes requires slowing down to make it stop.

Car was brought in 3 times for death wobble. first could not replicate, then part was replaced with a part removed from another vehicle as the required part was on nationwide back-order. that part was defective, car went back in the shop and waited for new part to come in. on 3/6/19 the death wobble reoccurred with my vehicle. it does not stop until you reduce your speed - difficult to do in heavy traffic. currently have not received response from dealer to bring car back in. they had fca engineer look at it the last time it was in and will not send me copy of the documentation.

My vehicle has under 3000 miles. i have already taken it in once to see a dealer about this problem. when going 50mph or higher, after i hit a bump, my steer wheel will vibrate for a couple of seconds then stop. twice now, after hitting a bump on the highway, going over 50 mph and surrounded by traffic, the steering wheel and the vehicle shook violently. the first time it lasted about 10 seconds. i immediately took to dealer and their paperwork says that the steering dampener was replaced. the second time just happened but luckily it only lasted 2 seconds. both times it only stopped shaking after i slowed down under 50 mph while on a busy highway which has cars going 70 mph. this a major safety concern. i've been reading on forums and i'm not the only driver experiencing this. please make this aware before someone gets injured or even killed due to this defect.

Jeep attempted a second fix of the death wobble problem. by changing out the dampeners and extending some rod. well it did help with the death wobble, if you hit certain bumps just right with the wheel turn, it still feels like there's a slight wobble, that is quickly corrected . after this second fix. my jeep no longer rides like it used to. i find myself drifting more easily and the steering not as it was before

I have a jeep wrangler unlimited jl sport purchased in june of 2018. just recently every time i get above 60-65 mph i get a massive amount of vibration also known as 'death wobble' this is happening at highway speeds and can start even if i dont hit a bump or pothole. the only way to get out of it is to brake hard to slow the vehicle down to stop it. has possed a safety hazard to me because it makes me loose control of the vehicle as i cant turn out to move my vehicle to the side of the road. the death wobble is caused by a combination of items and this should be investigated to see wether a safety notice is needed.

There is a lot of play in the steering at normal speeds. also while driving down the road minor bumps make the car jart in either direction and when larger bumps are hit the vehicles steering wheel shakes violently back and fourth until i slow down. my wife stated that she looked in her rearview mirror as i was following he and she said it looked like the wheels were wobbling . the car is currently in the shop waiting to be repaired. they said the steering dampner needed replace, but from what i read that will just mask the problem for now

At highway speeds, 3 times now the steering wheel begins to shake quite violently and impeded one's ability to control the car. this condition appears to last until speed is significantly reduced. the jeep wrangler 4 door is a 2018 with less than 6k miles.

Hit pothole on interstate traveling 65 mph and experienced severe motion in the steering and suspension to the point of almost losing control of vehicle. after looking at videos online related to this the experience is being referred to as the "death wobble" found on jeep forum. this is a stock jeep not modified in any way in terms of larger tires or lifted suspension. the problem spontaneously resolved when i slowed to around 40 mph. i was not turning or changing lanes at the time it happened.

Wobble after hitting bump, expansion joint, or pot hole at highway speeds.

Going approximately 70 mph on the freeway my jeep very suddenly began to shake/vibrate very violently. extremely difficult to maintain control. felt like the car was going to come apart/tires were going to fall off. after slowing down to maybe 30 mph the shaking resolved. jeep has approximately 5800 miles on it.

When traveling above 70mph and hitting a rough place on the road the steering shakes violently including the dash until you slow down to 40mph. this has happened 6+ times now with the local deal ship not knowing how to fix. we were almost rear ended because of this. and thank goodness their wasn't an abandoned vehicle on the shoulder. we have a video of this happening

When traveling on the highway going approximately 70 mph i hit a bump causing both my front tires to shake uncontrollably. i had to slow down below 45mph before the shaking would stop. this happened again on my return home due to another bump on the highway. both tires, front end, and steering wheel shake uncontrollably.

Death wobble when i hit expansion joints on a over pass, bumps, pat holes etc..i bought my jeep a week ago and only 500 miles on no modification all stuck from factory

The front wheels of the vehicle often shake violently at highway speeds when the vehicle hits a small bump in the road. often the triggering event could also be uneven or patched sections of freeway. the front end shaking is so violent, control of the vehicle is difficult. the vehicle must be slowed immediately below 50mph to stop the shaking. this will happen at least once, every time i drive on a freeway.

At highway speed the vehicle develops a pronounced shimmy which lasts for several seconds when encountering a bump in the road. identical to what was commonly called the "death wobble" on my 97 wrangler.

When driving at highway speed hit bump my truck shakes violently that i have to slam breaks just to get trunk under control this is known in the jeep forums as the death shake the steering wheel shake along with entire truck .i have had my wrangler serviced twice already and they put in steering damper in the first time and 1 month later it was doing it again then i brought it back and they replaced it again the damper was bad from factory not even a week later its doing it again,

Severe wobbling at highway speeds usually after hitting bump or uneven pavement.

Vehicle has about 1-2 inches of free play in the steering wheel when straight. it is difficult to keep the vehicle in its lane at highway speeds, constant corrections are needed. vehicle does not feel safe to drive at highway speeds.

Driving at highway speeds the vehicles steering is dangerous and it becomes more pronounced in the wind and in the rain. it drifts dangerously and when trying to correct the drift the steering is not very responsive since it has way too much play so you begin to over correct causing even more issues. in the rain the vehicle has the feel as if it's hydroplaning and the impact from the wets roads and puddles causes the vehicle to drift even more. i found that many people have received replacements of the 1.steering box (68259507ae) 2.the damper (recall 77072360) 3.track bar (68394087aa) all of these parts have been upgraded by mopar and i'm guessing that was for obvious reasons but my dealership and customer service at jeep/chrysler refuse to acknowledge there is a problem yet the problem persists. i showed them proof in both videos and with the upgraded parts and it does not seem to matter to them that this is a dangerous situation. i will provide a link of a person who got these issues repaired this individual has the same make model and year jeep i have. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asz1wujbjby . i do not feel comfortable driving this vehicle it feels dangerous to me ... my wife will not drive it at all and she was the one who wanted the vehicle since we bought it for her. this has been going on since we bought the vehicle. i have done the research and 1,000's of people are complaining about this, some have a dangerous wobble, some have really bad drift where its hard to keep the vehicle on the road at highway speeds, and some have both. funny, i was told by my dealership that this was normal for a jeep and its not acceptable i told him it felt dangerous and he agreed it drifts but says that normal for a jeep. it gets so bad at times in the rain i have to get in the right lane and drive 30 miles per hour in a 70 mile per hour zone . the jeep has only 5k miles

Purchased the brand new 2018 jeep wrangler sahara with 40 miles on november 30, 2018. currently, this vehicle has 1,975 miles. in late december 2018 hit a bump on a highway driving the posted speed of 70mph and the vehicle vibrated a bit and had to slow down to handle the vehicle. each week after driving the vehicle on daily commute in city conditions at the posted speed of 25-30mph, after hitting a bump in the pavement the vehicle does not handle well, as if i would lose control. on january 27, 2019 driving on a ramp at the speed of 45mph upon entering the interstate the vehicle hit a bump in the pavement, the vehicle begins an uncontrollable vibration and was shaking the steering wheel, i had to pull over. after researching this issue online with the same issue, i feel unsafe driving my only vehicle. for a vehicle valued over $45,000, i need this issue to be investigated before someone is seriously injured. i do not feel safe driving on the interstate at the posted speed. the vehicle feels unstable while driving over any bump in the pavement at 20mph the vehicle wobbles and sways.

I am getting the death wobble in my 2018 wrangler jlu, when on the highway. i've had the steering stabilizer replaced by my dealership with a new jeep part. the problem is not fixed. there is still a lot of slop in the steering, and the death wobble is still happening at highway speeds. my vehicle has 4000 miles on it.

I have already filed one complaint on this and heard nothing. this is the second time i have had my 2018 wrangler into the shop for repair for the same issue of the "death wobble" (when hitting a bump on the highway it goes into a terrible wobble you must slow way down for). no recall and still having problems. the last time it was in the shop recently it was in there for 4 weeks. this is riciculous!

Vehicle purchased new from dealership. within first 100 miles was traveling down hwy at approximately 70 miles per hour, i hit a bump in the road while bearing left. truck started shaking violently. steering wheel same. as truck slowed down shaking stopped... dealer replaced stability bar and stated problem was corrected... within first week of truck being returned, i was traveling on hwy, this time hit a bump in road while bearing right. truck started shaking violently to the point i barely avoided an accident with a vehicle to my front and another to my side... vehicle was returned to dealership, this time spoke with general manager, was told as of yet their is no solution. corporate will have to recommend a fix. i've owned this vehicle for approx 1 month and 2 weeks. it's been in dealers possession for this and numerous other problems for more than half that time. at time of first repair i asked dealership for repair paperwork, was told it was not ready, it would be mailed to me. at time of second i am still awaiting documentation from first incident which has still not been provided. first incident occurred 1/24/19. dealer kept vehicle for approximately 20 days. second incident occurred morning of 2/26/19 as of this writing.

My jeep wrangler jl shakes violently at highway speed when a small pothole is struck or the road is uneven. the steering wheel vibrates and it seems as though a crash is imminent. slowing down didnt seem to stop it-smooth road did. but on one occassion, the shaking lasted more than a mile. it seems to be getting worse. death wobble seems to be what fits when researching on the internet. this vehicle is new and was purchased at the end of october 2018.

At speeds over 45mph, that if you hit a bump, expansion joint, anything that would cause the suspension to load and unload, it goes into an immediate 'death wobble ' . you cannot control steering and direction at this point. it vibrates and shakes so bad the soft top latches can become undone. has been sitting in a dealership for 2 weeks with no answers on why. has 10,000 miles on it but started at around 9000 miles. nothing aftermarket on it at all.

Jeep begins to vibrate violently after hitting bumps or driving over bridge unions at high speeds (70 mph). vehicle has less than 200 miles on the odometer.

2018 jeep wrangler has the "death wobble." specifically, while driving above 50 mph, the vehicle somewhat frequently hits a bump or crack in the road which causes the front suspension to violently shake and essentially lose control. the only cure for this "death wobble" problem is to slow down to below 20 mph or more often slow down to a complete stop. this vehicle is essentially impossible to drive on the highway because of this problem. i cannot believe that this nhtsa has not issued a warning or a recall for this problem. it is beyond dangerous, especially in traffic.

When driving at 60 mph on highway, and crossing over a bridge, the front of the jeep, and steering wheel started shaking very badly. it seemed like the front end was going to fall apart. i had to slow down to about 35 mph for it to stop. the roads were clear, but it was below freezing out.

Experiencing 'death wobble' at high speeds when hitting bump in road. jeep shakes violently. one time i had to come to a complete stop. seems as if something is loose with the steering or suspension isn't up to par.

Vehicle gets uncontrolled shaking at high speeds (60-70 mph ) when hitting a bump must slow down to fix

Driving on the 355 tollway driving 76 mph, i went over a bridge that had a slope (bump) and the jeep started shaking violently. the steering wheel was uncontrollable. being in the middle lane i had many "near misses" of other cars potentially hitting me. i let off the gas peddle and had to pull over before the shaking stopped. being the family car, i am no longer driving in fear of an accident may occur. i contacted the service department but am hesitant to drive the jeep there.
