The "gate" light in my jeep liberty came on while driving and would not go off, even though everything was securely shut. as a result, i was unable to lock my vehicle because the alarm would sound. the interior lights also stayed on during this time, which was a hazard when driving at night as it directly affected my ability to see outside my car. i have done some research on this issue and do see that it appears to be a common problem which may be caused by faulty rubber trim around the rear hatch window. the rubber allows water to get in to the latch and eventually ruins it. i recently had the gate latch assembly replaced, which did resolve the issue,.

At around 40k miles the airbag light in the dash came on and would not turn off. when we took the car to get it inspected it failed inspection due to the airbag light and the mechanic told us we would have to take the car to the jeep dealer to have them diagnose and fix the issue. we took the car to the dealer and they said the issue was the orc module and it would have to be replaced and it would cost $650. this part was recalled on the 2011 jeep liberty and i have read a lot of complaints online about this part on the 2012 liberty. we have no choice in replacing this part or our car will not pass inspection and our only option is to take it to a jeep dealer to replace.
We bought the 2012 jeep liberty last year and the airbag light came on randomly last week when i started it and hasn't turned off. i called the dealership and they said it would be $125.00 to diagnose the problem then more money to fix it. after researching online and not having the money to fix this issue i am afraid that the airbags might deploy while i am driving. *tr
Driver's side lock flutters up and down rapidly every time the car locks even when the engine is running. makes a loud and startling noise that is dangerous when driving. sometimes the door gets stuck from the inside because of the lock issue and the driver cannot exit the vehicle from that side. *tr
Vehicle was parked and turned off. car alarm sounded due to loud vibration noise nearby. when went out to car to reset, the dash light indicated rear gate lift open. checked gate and it was securely latched, as was the window. reset alarm and went back inside. i was notified again that alarm was sounding and had to turn the alarm off completely. kept getting warning that gate lift was open which it was not. interior dome light kept coming on. started car and shut it off after several minutes..gate lift indicator still showing up. finally gave up and ignored it after having opened and shut gate and separate window latches several times. the light finally went out after several hours...neither the gate or the window were ever found to not have been secure. *tr

On 3/29/13 the airbag light came on the dashboard and i took it to the dealership received a loner and they called me the next day saying the car was fixed. they conducted: 1) multi-point inspection, 2) replaced the orc module, stated 3) that there was in fact an electrical issue which was an internal failure in the vehicle. nhtsa has now forced the manufacturer to issue a recall and in the notice, all the notice states as a remedy is repetitive of the work the work done on the vehicle in march. in addition, if the manufacturer does not have the parts as stated in the notice, how could they have fixed the problem in march then? my vehicle is defective and no one has come forward to reassure me that upon collision the airbags will deploy and there won't be any such mechanical failure as stated in the recall. *tr
