Problems with 2012 Jeep Liberty ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

On average, the 2012 Jeep Liberty starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRICAL SYSTEM and its various aspects after 143 763 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2012 Jeep Liberty

My window on the drivers side started to act up and the next day all controls to every window quit working and now its very cold out side. plus the heat for the floor quit working also.

tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep liberty. the contact stated that while driving about 60 mph, the vehicle slowed down and lost power. the brake, the air bag, seat belts, the heater core and some other unknown warning lights illuminated. the contact also stated that the radio did not work. the vehicle was taken to the ferrario auto team of sayre dealer (570-888-2367, located at 102 spring st, sayre, pa 18840) where the technician recommended a diagnostic test. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the diagnostic test should be covered. however, the dealer stated no. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 139,000.

Radio doesnt work -wipers come on by them selfs-little heat turn blow up brake lights come on, slip light for tires comes on dash and seat belt guy with airbag lights up on dash -motor loses power driving down road with heater blower on. took to mr. tire auto service center for a full curtesy inspepection and they found out its eletrical issue . i have a video of me sitting in my work parking lot with the lights on dash . i dont know what the heater has to do with the lights on dash or my brake lights coming on and radio not working and why the motor loses power drive it im scard of driving it because of a fire braking out but i have no choice it the only vechicle i have to drive back and forth to work. i had this vehicle for less then three years.

The evap container isnt the right part and obviously was actually for a jeep wrangler and has an extra inlet. after numerous attempts to contact jeep for the last 4 months and still nothing this vehicle will stall while driving and it drives alot of interstate travel which is a huge safety risk and still have gotten nowhere all i want is for jeep to make this right and fix the manufacturer mess up.

After driving the vehicle to my destination and shutting it off. it will not restart when i go to drive it to the next location .this has happened numerous times. it has left me stranded a couple times. while driving the vehicle to a location the headlights seem to dim on their own. after having a mechanic look at it. i was told it was the tipm causing the issues.

Jeep will just die while driving down the road, engine shuts off, got to the side of the road safely, the second time was able to get into a parking lot all the lights came on wipers came on while in the off position, windows stopped working locks stopped working, fuel gauge said empty when its full if this happened on a highway could be life threatening as everything stops working power steering brakes

The tipm(total integrated power module) has sticking or defective relays, fails to properly work on factory installed trailer hitch, and now rear braking lights staying on, causing a dead battery. i had to pull a fuse to stop this. the tipm has had a long history of manufacturing defects in other chrysler vehicles which were recalled, replaced by mfr. i recommend the same for this model.

My driver's side door to my 2012 jeep liberty caught fire. the door started to smoke once i started the ignition. i smelled a burning smell and then i notice smoke coming out of the driver side window seal. i pulled off to the side of the road, and turned off the ignition. i notice the smoke continued to worsen even though i turned off the ignition. the smoke became small flame quickly. i crawled to the passenger side of the car to exit. i called 911 the fire dept was dispatched to put out the fire. once they got there they removed the battery cables from the battery under the hood sprayed the whole entire jeep inside and out. its was scary to know something i work so hard to have and pay for caught on fire like that. i can't believe that i was driving around in something that was a fire hazard and unsafe. thank god i survived through something so dangerous. all of this took place on a city street. i wasn't able to recover much of my belongings because of all the water that was used by the fire department to put the fire out.

The radio keeps skipping while playing the radio, cds and during bluetooth.

Car wouldnt start; when finally did, pulled out to road, couldnt get it to go past 35 mph, pressed gas pedal, even tachometer wouldnt go faster; couldnt get any getup and go; pulled to side of road, put in park, tapped accelerator few times, wouldnt accelerate; afraid to shutdown, so started out on road (45 mph speed), car wouldnt accelerate past 35, finally got home; shut off, wouldnt start again. calling dealer. looks like others have similar problem. engine light came on, red light under it flashed then stayed on.

Something with the starter and something with the back latch can't lock vechicle up do to the alarm will go off

All my lights are on in dash(check engine, tire pressure, traction control, abs) when this happens my ac doesn't work...the gauages doesn't work. test done by mechanic say communication failed...

Im writing to see if my vehicle still qualify for the recall and the jeep is experience all the descriptions that are posted.

Well serviced vehicle with 88,000 miles. driving on a residential street when smoke began coming out of climate vents. noted engine temperature gauge at normal. stopped the car and turned off. fire noted under the hood near the windshield. within minutes, the car became fully engulfed and burned completely before fire department could arrive.

Tipm issue. all dash lights come on. all gauges drop to zero except fuel gauge. ac stops working. car still runs and is drivable, but you can't see your speed limit. i feel this should be recalled as this could potentially be very dangerous. this can happen while stationary or driving. issue seems to come and go, but problem sticks around more than not.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep liberty. while driving various speeds, the sky slider unintentionally opened. as a result, the vehicle had water damage, which caused electrical failure and various unknown warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to brown's jeep chrysler dodge ram (483 ny-112, east patchogue, ny 11772, (888) 615-2184) where the contact was informed that the parts for the failure were discontinued. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.

My boyfriend was looking at my jeep back in may/june of 2018 to try to see if he could fix the ac. he disconnected the battery so that he could work behind the dash without risk of getting shocked for any reason, as well as the wiring to the 4 wheel drive switch so it would be out of the way while he worked behind the dash. when he went to reconnect the battery and the wiring for the 4 wheel drive, the vehicle got stuck in 4 wheel drive. we tried for what seemed like hours to get it to pop back to 2 wheel drive but nothing worked. we slowly drove it the few miles to bluebonnet jeep in new braunfels, tx to have them look at it and fix the ac too while they had it. they had my jeep for 2 weeks and nothing got done to remedy either issue until we had to physically go in and see what was going on. when we got there they hadn't worked on the jeep hardly at all. they never did a diagnostic to see what the problem was with the 4 wheel drive and then tried to replace my transmission. we had to load the jeep up on a trailer and haul it to another shop. that shop took apart my entire jeep and followed all of the wires back to see what was wrong. that's when they found that components were missing from my jeep to make it an actual 4 wheel drive. they made it so i can drive it but trying to fix the 4 wheel completely will be costly. i have expressed my concerns to chrysler jeep and basically they are telling me that i am going to have to pay more money for something that bluebonnet jeep should have done in the first place before they will consider any type of action. the shop that looked at it and did the diagnostic has detailed notes and diagrams but that apparently is not sufficient. i don't believe that i should have to fork out the money to have the diagnostic done when jeep is at fault for it not being done in the first place.

Moon roof that came with the car not weather resistant. entire roof came off during a drive

Since i bought my jeep almost one month ago i've already had to replace the rear hatch actuator tonight ( 4 weeks after replacing it) my cat is giving me same error message that the rear gate is open and alarm goes off by itself. panic button doesn't turn it off so apparently it's not the alarm disgaging. i go out to car open and close make sure it's properly sealed and horn goes off again. this is completely ridiculous. am i going to drop 400.00 on my car once a month to be able to lock my car or have my dash lights in while i drive at night or is that to much to ask of jeep?

When driving the odometer flashes between the mileage and the word "gate". when parked the word "gate" comes up and goes on and off. if the doors are locked the alarm goes on doesn't shut off until the alarm is turned off. when parked and doors are not locked the word "gate" comes up and goes on and off as well.

Doors will not lock , with either the button or fob, and automatic lights occasionally do not work. the mechanic said it was the totally integrated power module and would cost @ 1100 to replace. this is 2nd time it has to be replaced . @ 2-3 years ago the horn kept beeping and the tipm had to be replaced

All of the dashboard lights are on. speedometer, odometer, gps, automatic door lock, remote start, cruise control, none of that works. tire pressure warning lights are constantly flashing different pressures. everything lights up upon starting and stays on while moving until it's turned off. this initially happened when i was driving on a highway, and my first reaction was that i didn't have any brakes. it was quite frightening. subsequent to that the lights would go on and off intermittently, but after a few months they are now permanently on. the dashboard also makes a ping noise every minute or so. i purchased the car in 2017 and this had not been a problem until a few months ago. the known danger is in not knowing how fast i am going. the unknown danger is could the brakes at some point not work, or if i become involved in an accident will the air bags not deploy or will the engine at some point just stop running. i have been told it could be a faulty tipm. i also have a 2008 jeep liberty that does not have this problem, however it suffers from the same dashboard random ping noise.

Takata recall: manufacturer numbert56 nhtsa recall number17v-640; took vehicle to hall jeep autogroup: not told parts unavailable for repair - found out only by reading the receipt after 3 hours at dealer. vehicle only has 69,285 miles and suffering failures: steering rack assembly: not told my steering failed an inspection - power steering leak noted on receipt; repair estimate $1,600. i had been driving under normal conditions and found out inadvertently when i brought my vehicle to dealer for airbag recall. heat blower abruptly stopped working: power module determined to have shorted; repair estimate $235; normal driving conditions, suddenly stopped blowing heat

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the heater box did not produce heat. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician replaced the heater box. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not offer assistance. additionally, the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 13v282000 (electrical system, air bags) and 17v640000 (seats, air bags). the failure mileage was 85,000. parts distribution disconnect.

My jeep has had trouble switching from defrost to vent or floor since i purchased it. recently i have been unable to use the heat in my jeep and it is very cold in the mornings. i have been advised it is the hvac blend door actuator. i have read reviews online with a lot of people having the same issues and was also advised by a coworker that jeeps have a lot of recalls for problems such as this. i would like to report the issue in the event the jeep could be recalled for this before i spend a large amount of money trying to have it repaired. the heat will not work at all, it does not matter if the vehicle is in motion or sitting in park. my passenger window will not roll down when being attempted from the passenger side. the driver has to roll the window down. my jeep was in park and another vehicle backed into it, slightly bumping the front bumper of my jeep. my jeep was in park with no passengers inside but rolled backwards several feet. the jeep was barely tapped therefore, considering it was in park, should not have rolled backwards that far. i travel with kids in my vehicle, this is frightening.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep liberty. upon starting the vehicle, the air bag warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to dick hannah dodge (3517 ne auto mall dr, vancouver, wa 98662 (360) 944-3276) where it was diagnosed with a defective orc module. the contact stated that the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 13v282000 (electrical system, air bags). the contact stated that the recall remedy stated that the dealer would flash the totally integrated power module (tipm) or replace the module. the contact stated that the dealer flashed the tipm; however, since the remedy failed, the manufacturer and dealer needed to replace the module per the recall remedy. the dealer stated that the manufacturer would only pay for flashing the tipm. the contact stated that the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was 105,000.

On occasion the right side of the speedometer will not light up. contacted chrysler about this issue for assistance but said that it was too old (the jeep didn't leave the dealership lot till 2013 so 4 year old) took it in and they said the dash is failing. they also stated that the light are integrated in to the bored. the jeep only has 40,000 miles on the odometer and should not be failing so early. this happens while moving or sitting.this is a safety issue due to not being able to see the speed and they came out and said the the dash is failing and needs to be replaced. i will add that a new cluster just for the part is $400.

2012 jeep liberty occupant restraint controller 2 module has an internal failure and needs to be replaced to restore air bag functionality air bags will not deploy until fixed every other year jeep had a recall for this except 2012 the air bag light is on in the dashboard at all times there was a recall to reprogram the tipm module but not to replace the orc module.

My airbag light came on and will not go out. the dealer checked it and said i need a new occupant restraint module. it is my understanding that this is a common complaint for these cars. is there a recall that covers this problem?

For the past few months i have had electric issues with my car; i.e power doors lock/unlock doesn't work at all, back windshield wiper doesn't work, windows will not roll up, and dimming/flickering of interior/exterior lights which are all due to a faulty tipm. which i have been informed is a very expensive fix. as of today as i was driving with cruise control on my car had a mind of it's own and accelerated to a higher speed revving the car up to 4000 rpms on a flat straight road. i tried to turn off and cancel cruise control on the steering wheel with which did nothing. i then pressed the break several times and again nothing. after having a complete panic attack and trying everything i could to turn cruise off it eventual went off on it's own. i have been made aware but other individuals having similar electric problems all caused by a faulty tipm. this is a very dangerous issue and there needs to be a recall. is it going to take someone dying for chrysler to care?

2nd occurrence., lift gate light came on the instrument panel app 4 days ago, made sure door was closed. light remain on. then today, horn sounded while car was parked in my secured garage. i have contacted the dealership. they require a fee to put on dianostic machine. then $200 for a lift gate sensor which they claim may not remedy the issue plus labor! i don't have money to waste on maybe's.

Gate latch says it's open and interior lights won't go off. it will go away then after rain will come back on. ongoing issue

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep liberty. the contact stated that there was an abnormal noise coming from the sunroof. the contact stated that the sunroof would not connect to lock and that no warning light illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the sunroof needed to be replaced the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 43,692. updated 06/08/17*lj the vehicle has been repaired. updated 10/13/2017*js

Faulty tipm, front window washer not functioning, keyless entry issues, engine starting issues, etc.

I have had many problems with this vehicle. apx 50k miles the water pump blew. had it replaced - then apx 75k miles i experienced jump starts - took it to the dealer who was only doing oil changes that day. took it to aaa repair center - they did a pressure test - found nothing wrong. experienced the jump again - took it to a firestone mechanic who did a pressure test and "found nothing wrong". the jeep would not start on thanksgiving - had it towed to the aaa center where i explained what had happened. they discovered that the head had blown and was now warped & camshaft broken at considerable cost, they fixed it, but now i have a p0340 code (camshaft sensor). i let the vehicle sit overnight. it seemed to start fine. after 40 miles of highway driving the oil light came on briefly, before shutting off. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep liberty. while driving various speeds, the air bag warning indicator remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 13v282000 (air bags, electrical system); however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 38,000. the vin was not available.

The airbag warning light appeared on the dash and remained lit while driving. the vehicle was taken to a chrysler jeep dodge dealer where the n38 recall to repair the active head restraints was completed. after which the airbag warning light remained lit. after diagnosing the problem, it was determined that the occupant restraint control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle is out of warranty and there is no current recall on the orc module however, this is a safety issue which should be covered by the manufacturer. fca usa llc was contacted regarding the issue and reported that unless the vehicle was under a third party service contract, chrysler could provide no coverage on this safety matter. in addition to the two most recent safety issues (the n38 recall and the orc module), this vehicle also had an additional safety problem in march 2014. while driving on the highway, the vehicle completely shut off. after towing the vehicle to a chrysler jeep dealer it was determined that the pcm (the cars computer) had gone bad and needed to be replaced. although the car was under warranty at the time, this was still an additional safety issue. this car was purchased new from a certified chrysler jeep dealer and has had no major accidents or water damage and has been well kept with regular scheduled maintenance.

Interior lights in dash flashed on and off, radio went off and came back on. upon stopping for traffic light engine stalled, put car in park restarted car. this happened twice today(8-18-2016). interior lights flashing on and off has happened 5 or 6 times in the last 3 or 4 days, stalling has only happened today.

Takata recall this vehicle is a saftey hazzard unsafe due to abs notification system and causing brakes to drag and lock up. i purchased this vehicle at a so called 5 star chrysler jeep dealership and it was put on the lot with bad breaks that where metal to metal and a bad electrical system. i had to purchase new breaks which are being damaged due to abs malfunction causing the hit an miss causing the breaks to over work against the rotar drag and lock up. i was coming home on hwy and had to apply my breaks the break light came on and my breaks locked and i swerve off road to keep from rear ending another vehicle and shut off engine. this is a safety issue vehicle is unsafe and should not have been sold without breaks and electrical system being checked out.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep liberty. the contact received a notice for nhtsa campaign number: 13v282000 (air bags and electrical system). an appointment was scheduled and the dealer stated that the recall repair was completed; however, the contact felt otherwise. the contact had not experienced a failure until the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall repair. the air bag warning light illuminated shortly after the dealer's repair. one dealer indicated that the dtc flashed and the module was not replaced. a second dealer indicated that the air bag module was replaced. one of the dealers contacted the manufacturer to order the part and the contact was still awaiting the repair solution. the manufacturer was notified. the vin and failure mileage were not available.

Right after it hit 100000 thousand miles all of my 4 wheel drive and anti skid lights all came on and will not go off very upsetting do they rig the new cars with faulty equipment that breaks or something happens right after the warranty run out! the lights stay on! i hope someone can help determine what's wrong or have a recall so i can get it fixed

As i was driving all the lights on the dashboard start to flash, the vehicle stalls looses power radio turns off, i waited a few seconds change the gear to park turned off the ignition turned the car on and it drives ok. it has happened a few times as i am driving in the hwy very dangerous

Cluster light came on prior to having the recall for nhtsa campaign number: 13v282000 completed. i took in the jeep to have the recall completed, but it did not solve the issue. i was informed that the occupant restraint module was defective, and not covered on the 2012 jeep liberty recall, only the 2011. the estimated price to replace the module is $580.00. i have seen multiple other reports from 2012 jeep liberty owners who are experiencing the same issue. i believe the recall should be expanded to include the 2012 model for module replacement, and not just reflash.

Starting two years ago, after a rain, when parked, upon locking my car either manually or with the key fob, the alarm goes off, interior lights illuminate and the dash states the gate is ajar. repeatedly open and close the gate with no remedy. have to leave car unlocked and usually the interior lights go off after a few hours. related is the gate occasionally fails to unlock as well as unable to open the rear gate window. and the rear wiper continues to stay on after being turned off. all appear to be related to moisture somehow affecting the lift gate electrical system. have taken to dealership three times, first two under warranty and dealer advised unable to find problem. third time after warranty expired, advised they would need to replace seal at cost of $600. declined repair.

Tamara recall locks stop working on remote key and inside on door panel 1 day later the window washer in the front stopped working. took it to the dealer they informed me it is the tipm which will cost 1200.00 in doing more research there is a class action lawsuit for my vehicle on this part and chrysler has not recalled it. it is very hazardous to drive with no windshield washer especially after it has snowed out

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure was unable to be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 59,000.

I locked my vehicle and the alarm started going off. went out to see what the problem was and it shows gate on the dashboard. i checked the gate lift and it was secure. i locked it again. a few hours later the alarm went off again. i couldn't lock it anymore without the alarm going off. while driving i cannot have the dash lit up because all of the inside lights will be on as well. after reading another complaint i assume that it is probably the same issue he had and it is the latch. i just purchased this vehicle the 17th of september and my 90 day warrenty has expired as of 1 week ago so i am going to have to pay to have this repaired.

Electric start has not been connecting. this morning i went to drive the car. cannot drive accelerator is stuck. cannot drive vehicle.

I bought this car in october 2015, with only 27,680 miles on it and i'm already experiencing issues with it. last week the airbag light came on out of no where. when i took the car yesterday to get the recall fixed, the tech. told me that the light stayed on and that it had nothing to do with a recall so it would not be covered. he also said that this was a module (not sure what that is) but if i wanted to fix it i would have to pay a deductible because it is not covered under warranty. my second issue is the driver's side window control buttons do not work properly, i literally have to pull really hard to get the window up. now i know that from reading other complaints, this is a common issue in this car, i just don't want to experience a fire in the panel or any other malfunction. is there something that can be done, i feel that i shouldn't have to pay out of pocket for manufacture issue that are not wear and tear.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep liberty. the contact started the vehicle and the air bag warning indicator illuminated continuously. the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 13v282000 (air bags , electrical system) and the tipm was reprogrammed. the dealer confirmed that the occupant restraint control module was faulty however, refused to replace the part as mentioned in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 62,000.
