We have classified the 620 complaints from 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Jeep grand cherokee recall - i have had numerous issues with my 2012 jeep grand cherokee, primarily electrical related. my car was making a high pitched sound, it wasn't very loud at first, but progressively got worse. it wouldn't start at first - then had to try to start it a few times before it would start. the electrical system seemed to be malfunctioning worse. i assumed it needed a new battery, so i bought one and the guy at autozone installed it. i drove to my restaurant and it started acting up again (high pitch sound returned, had trouble starting it). as i was driving back home on the road (45 mph) - i saw all electrical workings cut off and back on (the red lighting lights flashed). as i tried to pull over, the entire electrical system failed. my power steering, anti-lock breaks, radio and everything electrical stopped working. i almost got in a wreck but it took every bit of strength i had to stop and steer the vehicle - i turned into a shopping center and steered toward an incline and eventually stopped (almost hit a car, then almost hit an elderly couple pedestrians). i had my car towed to hendrick chrysler fayetteville, nc. they said the pcm was out. it was still under warranty so they replaced it - but my vehicle has never been properly repaired. my check engine light comes on and off all the time and have had numerous electrical wiring issues (before and after the pcm) was replaced. my vehicle (when the pcm went out) could have easily killed me and anyone on the road at that time. the dealership keeps saying that none of that has anything to do with the check engine light or any of the other recalls - but i cannot accept that. i feel this vehicle - 2012 jeep grand cherokee - is an extremely dangerous hazard to all road. i have also had numerous other recalls for this vehicle.
My 2012 jeep grand cherokee laredo has stalled when turning on and has often not turned on. when driving the vehicle the car has shut off almost causing an accident.this has happened on many occasions. the car accelerates often when driving the lights, airbag symbols, etc turn on erratic. i had to replace the alternator and battery due to faulty timp which jeep has recalls on however not my year although-my car has the same problems which i have to pay for and i have researched and many other jeep owners have the same issues and jeep is very aware and are not taking responsibility, i feel unsafe driving this car especially with my children, the car is unreliable and have been late to work due to the car stalls and lack og turning on. this car has a mind of its own starts when it feels like it, speeds up on its own, lights turn on off, tells u keys left the car when it hasn't. very angry at jeep i should not have to pay for faulty equipment due to your negligence! *tr
I been complaining of a smell and a burning smell. no one at the dealership could find the cause. yesterday 04/15/2014 the cabin filled with smoke and as i opened the window to let the smoke out the fire started. i called 911 and the firemen extinguished the flames. this is a link i found related to this issue. https://www.google.com/#q=ceiling+catching+fire+on+2012+jeep+cherokee *tt

Initially, i was having trouble with it stalling after it started. the dealership installed a new start button, i then had trouble after i would turn the car off, the accessories would not turn off. the dealership replaces the door mechanism and now i am having trouble getting the car to start. i was unable to start it after several attempts and could only start it using the remote start. i have had tons of issues with this vehicle and the start system stalling, then not turning off and now not starting. *tr
I recently purchased a used 12 grand cherokee from starling chevrolet buick in st. cloud, fl. i did a ton of research and had been looking for this particular jeep for many months. our jeep is in immaculate condition and the car fax listed only two minor recalls, the sun visor wiring and a brake component; nothing else. i drove it off the lot a 35 days ago and back home and no problems whatsoever. about 14 days ago my jeep randomly stalled while i was taking a left turn in front of another vehicle (at a safe distance). thankfully i was able to pull off the side of the road (no power steering) and come to a complete stop, put jeep in park, and started again. i was completely baffled why it did this and took it in for service under my 3 year extended warranty. my dealer was unable to get any error or warning sign on the diagnostic test and could not find any problem whatsoever. my jeep has stalled 2 other times while driving and each time i took it back and the same thing, it would not stall on the mechanic and no check engine light. i was lucky to talk to the previous owner tonight and he explained that he had the tipm replaced 2 times, yes 2 times in this jeep and after the 2nd time the jeep kept stalling on him. my wife and i are terrified that we purchased a ?lemon? without having any knowledge about this at all. the car fax did not show this information, my jeep dealer showed me all the warranty history through chrysler and they sincerely want to help us. however, if the faulty tipm will not even show a check engine light, then how do they warranty a part? they cant (or refuse) and that is the lawsuit. the previous owner said he had to fight until he couldn't fight anymore to get his dealer to replace the tipm and it still failed after the fact and is now failing on me. what can i do? On 11/11/13, i took my car in for the state inspection and reported the issue of the car not starting / stalling out to huffines jeep in plano, tx. huffines diagnosed the problem as a faulty tipm. the replacement tipm was installed on 11/25/13. on 11/29/13, i noticed that every time i use my right blinker, my fog lights flash. car still does not start/stay running after starting and it has taken up to 8 tries to get it going. even if it sounds like the car started, it will sometimes die after running a few seconds. i've also noticed that the doors do not always lock when i press the button on the door handle. this is also related to the tipm. additionally, on 11/29/13, the dash light came on notifying me that the key fob battery was low. i replaced the key fob battery that day but that had no impact on the greater problems of the car not starting and the fog lights flashing when the right signal is activated. will be taking my jeep back to huffines tomorrow morning. *tr
Jeep (and all chrysler products) have a known issue with the tipm module (which stands for totally integrated power module). thousands upon thousands of complaints with the tipm module have been noted by owners of affected jeep/chrysler vehicles (a simple google search will evidence same). the high failure rate of the subject part has left countless families stranded when their cars won't start and has also led to vehicles stalling for no reason. this problem obviously poses a danger to owners of these vehicles, especially families transporting young children. chrysler/jeep has ignored this problem for too long and has not been diligent in procuring replacement parts. we have been waiting several weeks for a replacement part. we are told it may take another month to get the part in before our vehicle can be fixed. naturally, going to work and taking the kids to school is problematic since the vehicle rarely starts anymore. when it does start, my wife is afraid to drive it in case she is stranded with our two young children inside. *tr

I have a 2012 jeep grand cherokee that was bought brand new in december 2011. in 2013 i experienced my first incident where my jeep started, ran for 1-2 seconds, then died. i tried multiple times to restart it and could not get it to restart. i finally decided to completely turn off the vehicle and start the ignition process over. thankfully that seemed to work. between the first incident and the next service visit (january 2014), this happened approximately 6-10 times. i made the dealer aware of the issue and they noted it on the service sheet; however they told me they saw no error codes and could not recreate the problem. the in february i had an incident where it started then stalled, then the security alarm sounded. i had to remove the push start and use the key in the ignition in order to disengage the security system. then approximately one week later i started the jeep to go to work and it died after running for 1-2 seconds. i restarted the ignition process, this time when i let go of the push button start the starter continued to crank for approximately 10 seconds, until i exited the vehicle and locked the car. now in the last two days the vehicle has started, ran for 1-2 seconds, then died on three separate occasions. i have made an appointment with the dealer and shared the above information with them. i have advised them that i think i have a bad tipm. i am hoping to get this addressed immediately since i have 33,500 miles on the vehicle and do not want this to be replaced after the warranty expires. i am seeing the average cost to replace the tipm at a dealer is $1200-$1400. there are enough similar stories about these sort of issues that jeep/chrysler should issue a recall and stand behind their product. *tr
Total integrated power module: when starting, vehicle stalls. when try to restart, vehicle continuously turns over without starting until it finally times itself out. this happens at least once per week for more than a year. dealership says they know nothing about the problem and that they cannot recreate the issue so they will not fix unless i choose to replace the tipm at my own expense. i've given them article after article about this issue - to no avail. warranty company will not cover the issue because dealership says there is no issue. *tr

There have been four incidents while driving my vehicle at speed from 35 to upwards of 70 mph, my 2012 jeep grand cherokee without warning powers off and engine shuts off. the issues were diagnosed by criswell jeep service center, whereby the first occurrence was due a faulty and loose ground/ the subsequent re-occurrences were due to failure of totally integrated power module (tipm) which was replaced at mileage of 10,811. oddly, one year for second on june 10, 2014, same issue recurred. i contracted chrysler to report the defect and open a file on the matter. they instructed to take to another jeep service center for secondary assessment on electrical issues identified a year earlier. darcars jeep service center could not find nothing wrong even after their technician drove my suv to his residence and added 62 miles onto my vehicle. in conclusion, i informed a"possible of "fix" but the solution is unproven and not supported by chrysler. parts are on order to install a new receiver, antenna-r and antenna-p which should cure what is deem as unidentifiable issue. *tr
On june 2 after cleaning the car at the car wash (manually) on the way back to our home all the lights of the dashboard lit up for all services to be done and the wipers activated by themselves. the safety belts are no longer working and the lights of the car are not functional. you do not have blinkers, seat belts or brake lights. the rpm needle goes up and down randomly and the engine continues to rev up and down. the brakes feel as if they are not working to full strength, car was turned off and restarted to see if problem with dashboard still exist. car started with the same problems, but was unable to shift into gear. car was towed to dealership for service. the car was serviced at brigham-gill dealership (original sales dealer) on 03-june-2013 giving it back to me with the reset of all modules and deemed ok at that point. on 08-june-2013 the same exact problem happened while driving to virginia beach. car started same problems experienced on 03-june-2013. car is at new jersey dealership for repairs. car dealer in nj noted that there was a new computer module replacement to said vehicle in january timeframe. each time the car has this problem, you are not able to either start the vehicle or move car out of park position. *tr

Sun visor recall, have turned in 2 recalls allready to the tomah wi dealer, but no call to come in and get it fixed.
I have an ongoing problem with starting my 2012 jeep grand cherokee v8 overland. the jeep will start but will stall right away. sometimes if you put the jeep in gear quickly it will stall in gear also. most of the time it stalls right after starting. i have to shut the jeep off and press the start button again to get it started. i have had this jeep at the dealership (colorado chrysler jeep) multiple times over the last two years and the "resolution" for the dealership is that they can not recreate the problem. on 4/10/15 the dealership said that it stalled on them and they replaced a switch ig 08053059. received the jeep back and it stalled the next day. called colorado chrysler jeep back and they said that the service department would have to get an electrician in to have it looked at and that would take a couple of weeks. i called chrysler at this point and chrysler had me take the jeep into cherry creek dodge because they could "get me in quicker". on 5/22/15 i took the jeep to cherry creek dodge and the service department performed procedure s1308000399 5/2015 outlined in chrysler's star system. the next day the jeep stalled. i have called back multiple times to both chrysler and cherry creek dodge with either no answer or no solution. cherry creek dodge is now putting me of with a new recall saying the service department thinks that will fix the problem, and chrysler wants to go with what cherry creek dodge says. my problem is that this has been going on for two years. i'm not sure what to do at this point. ever day the jeep stalls at some point. any assistance with this problem would be greatly appreciated. we first noticed this problem at about 25,000 miles. we took the jeep to colorado chrysler at 35,451 miles and the jeep has about 54,000 miles now. at first the stalling was just every once in a while, now it happens daily.

The battery keeps dying/vehicle won't start/dies while idling. my jeep has a push button start, when pushed, the car will cycle through the ignition process (about 15-30 seconds) but won't start. after that the battery is drained enough not to cycle through ignition process. this first started shortly after original purchase of vehicle and i have been forced to keep on a charger, which only works some of the time. i have to have insurance send roadside to jump car at least once a week. it has also started up just to die as soon as it is put into gear, warm or cold. jeep claims there is nothing wrong with battery or electrical system. this is my wife's car and i am worried that it will stall out with her and 2 year old son inside. *tr
Engine started running roughly and attempted to stall in traffic. check engine light came on. i went to jeep dealer in gulf shores alabama and was told that the left cylinder head was defective. i was also advised that it was a manufacturing defect that could result in catastrophic engine failure. it is a well known defect in the 2012 cherokees with the 3.6 pentastar engine. if this vehicle had stalled while on an interstate ramp, or a valve in the defective head dropped down into the cylinder, an accident could result. jeep has full knowledge of this defect but has not issued a recall. this could be as serious as the gm ignition switch issue. *tr
The contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. on 5/8/2012 the contact pushed the start button on the vehicle, the lights on the vehicle flashed once, and immediately the vehicle turned off completely. contact pushed the start button again, the lights in the vehicle remained off, and the engine did not start. the vehicle battery was completely dead. contact attempted to jump start the vehicle in order to drive it to the dealer but vehicle still would not start. subsequently the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for repair. dealer determined vehicle had a bad battery. per the invoice received from the dealer "body ground at battery was not secure" and after installing new battery mechanic noticed "sparking at lower negative cable on body" and that he "found nut for stud laying in the bottom of the battery tray". mechanic then noted he fixed the above problems and re-installed the new battery. dealer then returned the vehicle to the contact. the manufacturer was notified of the issue and a case was assigned. *tr

I bought my band new 2012 jeep grand cherokee overland 7 months ago - brand new from the chrysler jeep dealership and about a month after i bought it i started to notice the acceleration is not 100%, the windows stop rolling up or down for hours at a time at random time, the brakes sometimes don't work all the way, the engine jumps when switching gears and most recently my check engine light came on, the car would not accelerate and the rpms would not go past 1.5 even when flooring it & there were loud clicking noises with a loud fan. this time i was not able to drive to the dealership - i had to tow it in because it was not drivable. i have taken it to the dealer ship 3 times for them to check on these things & everytime i take it in they tell me they are "unable to recreate the problems" & cannot help me. i have called numerous times to complain & report issues and they either tell me they cannot help me, they put me on hold for an infinite amount of time, i go to voicemail, or no one is available. they called me today, after having it for 4 days, and told me the check engine light was for a "evap perg system" so they replaced a hose & updated my power control module as a precaution. when i asked them how this had anything to do with my engine problems he could not explain it. when i asked him why my engine has problems he could not explain it. no one there wants to help me - what i feel like they are doing is giving me excuse after excuse in the book, stalling me for as long as they can until my warranty runs out. i have dealt with 4 managers there - the 1st one stopped returning my phone calls, the 2nd one told me i am imagining things and i should stop complaining and be thankful that i have a new car, the 3rd one pond me off onto a 4th one & the 4th one told me to my face that i am a liar and i am making up stories so the situation looks worse then it actually is. *tr
This jeep was replaced because the prior jeep was lemon law. the engine light appeared after about 3 weeks of purchase, the car was brand new. like the last jeep, it would stall causing loss of power brakes and power steering. the electrical system would also freeze (navigation and radio) constantly and would not fix itself unless the battery was unplugged. shave jeep in thousand oaks, ca upgraded the engine and navigation software, but problems resumed short after. shaver jeep then informed me that they would only look at the vehicle if the engine light was on. the engine light would go on and off so it was hard to time it right to bring it into the shop. because of this "rule," shaver jeep will not acknowledge that the car has been brought in for repair 7 times. as of today, the car stalled on a busy freeway and put the passengers in danger. constant engine code: crankshaft position sensor. *tr
Intermittent electrical problem -- alarm sounds, horns honk, lights flash, radio comes on at all hours, day or night, when car is not running, parked in driveway, on its own, without fobs or people nearby. car does not have an alarm system! panic button on fob not pushed. racket stops after ~15 minutes, on its own, until the next incident anywhere from a week to several weeks later. june 12, 2014, there were two incidents on the same day, once in the morning, while driving, once in the late afternoon when parked and not running. no error codes in vic. car starts and runs normal with all the racket the going on, but there is no way to stop the flashing lights. pulling the two fuses for the horns leaves only the flashing lights, but no horns if they are needed. headlights switch ineffective. lights continue to flash when headlights are turned on as if circuit is bypassed. *js
