Total power loss in cabin and engine, unable to open passenger doors from inside. the vehicle would not start and there was a burning circuit smell emitting from under the tipm. aaa tried giving a jump but the vehicle would not turn over even though temporary electrical power had been established while connected to aaa power source. electrical power was lost upon disconnect from aaa source. dealership determined that the problem was alternator failure which resulted in subsequent damage to the vehicles battery and connecting cables. dealership also determined that the burning smell emitted from the battery. *tr
My 2012 jeep grand cherokee encountered the same problem as stated in the chrysler recall p54, which is the recall for 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the engine would stall while driving, and it also encountered not start problem as well as the not start on the first attempt problem. even the car could start, the engine would stall again shortly. the problem is resulted from the faulty tipm, which is the same on both 2011 and 2012 model. however, only the 2011 grand cherokee is being recalled. so i urge chrysler to initiate a recall on the 2012 model as well. *tr
Around sep of this year chrysler notified me of two recalls on my jeep grand cherokee; p36 / nhtsa 14v-391 (sun visor wiring) and p14 / nhtsa 14v-154 (brake booster corrosion).. when i contacted the local dealer they told me to wait until oct as the manufacturer didn't have parts available. i contacted the dealer, planet jeep in flagstaff, az on 10 oct and was told chrysler was rationing parts and that they would place me on a list. i've been in that virtual queue waiting on parts since 10 ocvt 2014 and every time i call the dealer i'm still on the list. i contacted chrysler to complain about the poor service as i've been waiting for parts to fix safety problems for going on three months. i've been through several recalls over the past 40-years and have never experienced an excessive delay like this. it is actually easier to get my mercedes benz repaired and the nearest dealer is a 2 hour drive from hear. chrysler has demonstrated a lack of concern and no sense of urgency to correct two safety issues with my vehicle. their advise to me was to continue contacting my dealer to ensure i'm still on the waiting list. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v391000 (electrical system) and stated that the part was not available to perform the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified. the contact had not experienced a failure.
Battery light came on after approximately 5 miles of driving after starting the car, on 10/5/14. this pattern continued for two days, and on the morning of 10/8/14 the car stopped running completely while i was pulling into the parking lot of the auto shop to have it looked at. while driving, i lost power steering and abs before the car stalled completely a few moments later. i had to have the alternator replaced with only 50,000 miles on the vehicle. several days later i learned of a new recall on chrysler vehicles due to alternator problems, and today i learned my vehicle was not a part of this recall because i have a 180 amp alternator, and those recalled were 160 amp. i am choosing to report this incident because i believe the failure of my alternator could have caused serious injury to myself or other drivers if i had been traveling at high speed when the battery died, and i believe the 180 amp alternators should be investigated for a possible recall. *tr

My wife was driving the vehicle when all of the sudden the engine started to rev and would not shift up or down. she could only go maybe 20 mph - people passing and honking on a 4 lane road. she found an area and pulled off the road into a retail parking lot. she put the car in park and then shifted back into drive and the issue continued as the car moved but the engine rev'ed without shifting to the next gear. she put the car in park and called the local dealer, where she was told to call chrysler road side assistance and have it towed in. the dealer took a look at it the next day and could not make it happen again. they said they re chipped it i believe(reset the electronics). this same issue happen again approx. 30 days later and it was towed in and they could not find any issue. they said we had to take the vehicle back and there was nothing they could do. we have had the vehicle towed twice now both in the morning taking our daughter to school. we cannot trust this vehicle and are looking at selling it. that is what the dealer suggested as well. *tr

The car started to make loud, whining noise on 9/5/14 when it was taken to fields jeep, glenview, il to be checked up. 2 mechanics check the car and told it was safe to drive. due to the lack of interest or unprofessional staff, the car was not taken immediately to service even though it was apparent that it was dangerous to drive. the service was scheduled for 9/15. the alternator failed and the car stalled on 9/12/14 at the garage and the car was towed to fields jeep. the fields jeep service was reckless - recall was announced on 10/16/14. *tr

In september we were placed on a waiting list to have the repairs made with the recall p36/nhtsa 14v-391. as of today we are 42 on the waiting list at this one dealership in paducah ky. chrysler is not sending the parts to the dealership to make the repairs. this is the same as the other recall we received p14/nhtsa 14v-154, we have been on that recall list since 05-01-2014. the dealership said they have only received 6 parts since may to make the repairs. we are 12 on this list and winter is approaching and the recall is associated with freezing brake boosters. *tr

I did not have an actual incident with the vehicle - my complaint is about the lack of action for certain recalls. i received a recall notice on august 22, 2014 stating that the brake booster on my vehicle may prematurely corrode and ingest water. if the water freezes, the driver may have to apply force which may slow the driver's brake reaction time and cause a crash without warning. quite a frightening scenario. i called my jeep service center and they told me that the repair part for this recall is on backorder due to a parts shortage. i was asked to be put on a list and they would call me when the part arrives. i called the service center on december 18, 2014 (4 months later). i was told that i am number 124 on the waiting list and that they were only at number 40. i was told that chrysler only sends the service center one repair part at a time and when they complete one repair, then chrysler sends them another repair part for the next customer. i then asked the service manager if it is dangerous to drive the vehicle with this faulty part - he did not answer me - all he said was that "he knows what i know". also a frightening scenario. during the 4 months that i have been waiting for this repair, i received another recall notice for an alternator dioide that may experience rapid failure in which voltage may drop to critical levels and disable the antilock brakes, the electronic stability control, the electronic control module, and the central body controller. this may lead to vehicle shutdown and/or an electrical fire. this recall notice states plainly that "the parts required to provide a permanent remedy for this condition are currently not available". crazy! *js
Had a recall (nhtsa 14v-391) electrical problem. dealer told me "have to order part.. will call you when comes in??? it is now november 20, 2014.. been over 3 months-still waiting for call and part..."supposedly part ordered "a few months ago" dealer said that "quote"... "chrysler doesn't have many parts... they seem to drag out the process so that they do not get hit with all these expenses/charges in a month/year" well......this is b.s. !!! just getting the "run around". when can i except this to be handle.. can you put any pressure on chrysler to get part??? there is another "pending" recall on an a alternator (no news regarding this except an newspaper article last month).. chrysler needs to get their act together.. *tr

Car would not start on a regular basis. smelled electrical burning. brought to ramsey chrysler jeep and was told that tipom was no good which was the total integrated power module that operates all electrical functions of the vehicle. item was not covered under warranty and cost me $1418.43. *tr
My vehicle was at the repair shop for about 1 week having the cylinder heads replaced for the 2nd time. when i received the vehicle back i had it for approximately 1 day and i was driving down the street and the battery light came on and the vehicle stalled and would not start, the vehicle needed to be towed from the restaurant to the dealer where the heads were replaced. i was told the fuse on the starter blew and it was repaired, i picked up the vehicle and on the way home the battery light came on again, i turned around and brought it back to the dealer and they had it for 2 days and said it was the alternator that needed to be replaced and it was not covered under the warranty because of the mileage. i had to pay $652.00 to replace the part. on 10/16/2014 on the news was a recall for the jeep grand cherokee that the alternator needed to be replaced due to the same thing that happened to my vehicle. i contacted the chrysler company and was told my vin was not part of the recall and i would not be refunded my money to replace the alternator. i don't agree that it was not included in the recall. i feel that i should be refunded my money as it is obviously the same issue that is now being recalled. i just don't understand how you choose which vehicles are affected by the recall. *tr

Informed by technician that i have the right rear shock to be leaking oil, causing the car to bounce, poor control, rusty brake pads and possibly more problems in the future. the vehicle also have been selected for an important safety recall (brake booster prematurely corrode. i not satisfied with all these safety problems for a car i paid off, bought brand new, only two years old, with such disturbing problems, constantly taking it to the dealership it is inconvenient. the seat belt is difficult to click, un-click and i am very disturbed. i am constantly at the dealership repairing and worrying about what will be next. chrysler has sold to consumers like myself a poor quality vehicle. *tr

Noticed faint smell of burning plastic, opened a sunroof to clear the air. smell got worse immediately, and then a headliner, just above my head (driver side) started smoke. sunroof started closing and opening by itself, and dashboard showed a message that parking assist needs to be serviced. i pulled immediately of the road, turned off the vehicle, forced the water into headboard and fire stopped. called 911 in walton county in florida. night before we tried to turn the lights inside, and noticed that they were flickering and very weak. i am now 800 miles away from home on vacation, and chrysler is moving really slow to address the issue, already waiting 5 days for special investigator to check the vehicle. *tr
This vehicle will stall while you are in drive and driving. there is no indication that the car has stalled. lights and radio are one. when you go to break, the car will not stop. the following do not work, breaks, emergency break, power steering and throwing the car in park. you have to coast until you stop and hope you do not hit anything. once you stop, the car will restart. this is a know issues with this vehicle. it has been in over 3 times to get fix. it does have a recall but that has not fixed the problem. it is currently a deadly weapon.
I was getting a burning plastic smell i brought the vehicle to manfredi service center in staten island ny they tried to tell me it was my air freshener after pushing for a fix they flushed a coil ...immediately called them after picking up the vehicle and was told to bring the car back monday ....saturday while driving intense smoke filled the cabin from the drivers side headliner i had the car towed back to service where they disconnected the vanity and gave me the car back awaiting parts they also dragged the car onto the tow truck due to no start and replaced the battery and alternator when i received the car the drivers seat belt was inoperable and had to be fixed as well as the car dented .....i am awaotomg parts the smell persists and causes me to have headaches thank you for your time i would appreciate any info on this. *tr
06/30/2014: car was craning slow. outcome: battery replaced. brake booster recall and replaced. 08/18/2014: car was towed in. outcome: fuel pump overlay was replaced. 09/15/2014: car was towed in not starting. outcome: battery replaced and new alternator replaced. last incident happened on 09/12/2014 i was driving home, the car panel started flashing, vehicle shut off, and i lost power steering. no control of my car. thankful i wasn't in an accident. i had my children in the car. precious cargo. this is a huge safety issue and concern. if i was on the freeway i can only imagine what would have happened. my car only has 37k miles on it. an alternator should not be needed to be replaced at such low mileage. i can understand 100k. plus 2 battery replaces needed within 2 months. this car is not reliable nor safe. *tr

I have had multiple problems with my 2012 grand cherokee. all of the external lights modules ---headlights and tail lights--- went out and had to be replaced due to an electrical problem then the car sometimes wouldn't start. the dealer couldn't replicate the problem so told me they couldn't do anything. finally one time it happened at the dealer and they figured it was a defect in the keyless entry that was reading the signal from the key fob. then when they were inspecting the car they found the rear shock was leaking. they ordered a new part in june and it was finally replaced in oct as the part was on back order. on a routine oil change the service tech told me i needed routine maintenance check ( 30000 miles) to the tune of $1700 and wanted me to do it right then.. the day after this oil change the check engine light comes on. i called the dealer. they said it was probably because i hadn't done my 30000 mile check ( the day before). he said it could be variable things but probably a bad spark plug that needed to be replaced ( part of the $1700 check he had wanted me to do). i said i had other cars including a 2002 jeep and i hadn't had to replace the spark plugs at 30000 miles. then he realized my 3.6 l car did not need spark plugs changed at 30000 ---- only the 5.7 did. yesterday i checked my fluids and saw the power steering fluid was way low. i called the dealer to see if this was normal. the tech said no--- the steering fluid was in a contained system and should not loose fluid. he said i must have a leak somewhere in the system. he said it was very dangerous but not covered under warranty. he said the engine could catch fire or i could loose steering. why wouldn't this be covered under warranty? it is dangerous. the car only has 36000 miles and this leak should not happen. *tr
