My 2005 jeep grand cherokee (first incident) while turning a corner at approximately 15-20mph revved up, would not shift, and prnd were all lit up on the dash, as well as the engine light came on. after a few starts the engine light has gone off. second incident, from dead stop at a light and accelerating, same issue. engine light goes off again. this has now occurred 4 times within 2 months and is a safety hazard considering the fact that your speed drops down out of no where and can potentially cause a serious accidents, causing harm to car a drivers, especially behind you, them not being aware that you are suddenly about to drop speed without brake lights! *tr

While driving on city streets or on the highway, the dashboard lights turn off. the brake lights, turn signals, and headlights don't work either, but i am still able to drive the vehicle. the vehicle still drives normally. my knee doesn't hit the ignition switch. i have had this happen many times. shutting the vehicle off and restarting it sometimes turns the dashboard/electrical system back on, but then the engine light stays on. i have taken it in to dealerships and mechanics, but they have no idea what the problem is. *tr

Vehicle stalls at random, and looses power steering capability, can cause a crash on windy roads. very scary. has been to dealer multiple times in arizona and has not been able to fix. they tried to fix it under warranty and under extended warranty from chrysler. also when vehicle stalls looses power, can't immediately open windows or doors. doors on this vehicle also interior handles all were broken prematurely right after warranty expired at 48000 miles. this second problem is so common that dealer doesn't have part in stock, factory back order and jeep won't fix it. this second problem is a safety issue as well because can't open door, with handle from inside in az 110 f can be deadly, or during a crash or fire

My 2005 jeep grand cherokee limited will sporadically lose a portion of its electrical power. it can be restored by stopping the vehicle and restarting the engine. it never loses the radio nor the "p,r,n,d" on the odometer, but it always loses the remainder of the odometer, the turn signals and the hvac system. the jeep dealer is unable to repair the vehicle. *tr

When turning the ignition key to the start position, you hear 1 "click" but the vehicle does not start. this is an intermittent event that seems to come and go every few months. when it happens, i have to leave the key in the on position for about 1 - 2 minutes, then attempt to start the engine again. i had previously had my vehicle serviced at the dealership for this problem, but since it is so random, the service personnel could not recreate the event. i even advised them that other owners, registering this same complaint, pointed to corroded solenoid wires as being the culprit. however, the service department had me purchase a new battery last year. this did not fix the condition which continues periodically to this very day. unfortunately, the car has been unable to start at a few times when the surroundings were less than totally safe. i have viewed a number of consumer forums, such as http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/jeep-grand_cherokee/2005_jeep_gc_not_starting?pg=10. all of these owners have the exact issue but each time, when presented with the details of the occurrences, dealerships disavow all knowledge that this condition exists. many consumers are being told by the dealerships that no other owners have complained about this. *js

I have owned my vehicle since 2008 at 32,000 miles, the sunroof worked great for a few years then i noticed that the sunroof would close passed the roof line of the jeep. i did not think of it much because i assumed that the jeep would have a secondary seal on the inside of the roof line, in between the headliner to keep debris and water out of the inside. this is not the case, it started snowing heavily and the next couple of days the sun melted everything away. i got in my jeep and realized while i was driving that i had water pouring on my leg and through the map lights in the center. by the time i got to my destination, work, my pants were completely soaked and my center console completely drenched. this being that the sunroof had nothing to keep the melting snow out of the vehicle. sunroof is made with a faulty cog set that wears away too quickly. instead of having to spend almost one thousand dollars as i was quoted in 2011 for them to place in a new cog made of the same brittle plastic. i choose to stop my motor from over closing, rendering the sunroof always showing up in scanners as open. however with me concentrating that the sunroof closes correctly i still have leaks in the sunroof. my jeep has to stay outside, meaning any time it snow, but i'm not driving, i always have to brush the roof off just the ensure i don't have the same issues. my vehicle now just passed 125000 miles. since the issues i've had over the years, i've pulled up the carpet while cleaning the vehicle only to notice so much rust in the floor pans.. thankfully i had thought to pull the carpet and have taken precautionary measures to ensure that my vehicle does not continue to rust.

I filed a compliant earlier about my 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the cd number is 10374691. i will like to update that compliant. i have had the ignition replaced, the computer replaced and they did not fix the problems that i incurred in my previous compliant. the dashboard warning lights all came on again last night as i was driving down the road. this is a serious problem and the dealer has no idea how to fix this problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at 50 mph, the instrument panel lights illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a shortage. the technician made three set of keys; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 124,000.

Vehicle stalls or loses power while driving. error code p2101 limits rpms and performance and also causes problems with the electronic stability program. replaced throttle body twice, new egr valve, pcm re flashed and same problem. if you wiggle the two back plugs going into the ecm the p2101 code pops up every time. vehicle is a 2005 jeep grand cherokee limited 4wd with a5.7l hemi and only has 87000miles. huge safety concern when it stalls or loses performance while you are running 80 mph on the interstate. *tr

In cold weather (anything below approximately 30f) all instrument panel indicator lights light up, the speedometer and tachometer needles drop to zero, as do the fuel and engine temperature gauges. the reverse assist indicator lights in the tailgate also light up. there is a clicking sound in the dashboard. the engine continues to run, but the abs service required instrument panel indicator light does stay lit up. this is an everyday occurrence in cold weather, and starts happening 10-12 minutes after starting the engine. the vehicle needs to be brought to a full stop and the engine turned off and then on again before it stops happening. until stopping and restarting, it just keeps on occurring. a quick search of the internet reveals that this is a common problem with various year models of the jeep grand cherokee. the chrysler dealership simply pleads ignorance after charging me several hundred dollars to 'fix' a loose connection under the driver's seat. an electrical problem of this nature poses a definite electrical fire hazard. do we need to wait for that before taking action or can we be proactive? *tr

When driving home at night at approximately 65 miles per hour all the dashboard warning lights came on, then the dashboard went blank and shortly after that the headlights went off. after hitting the brakes the dashboard and headlights came back on, the headlights were on auto. i have researched the internet and it appears that jeep has a problem with this on their 2005 jeeps and is a serious problem that could cause serious injuries or deaths if not fixed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep cherokee. while parked, the contact attempted to start the vehicle but it would not start. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was towed to two different dealers and a repair shop, but they were unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

Dashboard lights and service electrical brake system come on and off while driving. when the dashboard flickers all gauges shut down while driving. major safety hazard. researched on internet and this is a global issue with 2005 jeep grand cherokees. *tr

While driving my 2005 jeep(with my 2 year old daughter in the back)on a friday evening my dashboard lights and headlights went nuts. they flashed on and off for about 30 seconds and it was pitch black-i was going about 60mph. i decided to take it really slowly but keep on driving,i had issues earlier this year with some shifting module.i really get freaked out about this stuff when my daughters in the car but it was fine for the rest of the weekend .then monday comes. i was on the highway doing about 70mph when it happened again. this time it was not my front lights but it was the dashboard again for about 2 minutes. i called chrysler because i have a power-terrain warranty i thought it my be covered. but i need to pay to have it diagnosed-not easy in december right before the holidays. the other problem is a "pop" or "lock" when i'm driving. it seems to be coming from the back. almost like the brakes locking???and again have to pay to just have it diagnosed. what happen to the public calling and explaining the issue and the tech saying"oh i know what that is"or "yea sounds like your blank is loose" i just bought this not even 2 years ago and already dumped over $1000 for parts. it seems like a lot of others are having these issues. diamler chrysler should recall these issues for safety purposes. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the instrument panel light would fail sporadically with the intermittent failure of the instrument panel gauges. in addition, the air conditioner would intermittently activate as the failure occurred and the headlights would illuminate sporadically. the contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer several times but they were unable to determine the cause of failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 64,000 and the current mileage was 67,000. the vin was not available.

When i start and as i'm driving the truck the headlights are flickering along with the radio. the rpm and speedometer gauges are jumping up and down as i drive. i can hear a cluster of clicking noises coming from behind the radio, underneath the steering wheel in the wiring harness's and also from underneath the hood in the fuze box closet to the driver. the heated seats do not work along with the radio and gps, the turning signals and the fog lights do not work when this is going on. the dealer has no idea what's wrong with the car, i have already changed the battery, alternator, and starter. this seams to be an ongoing problem with this truck and its a serious safety hazard.

I have had the same issues with my 2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo for many years. it seems to be an electrical problem, but no one can tell me for sure what the problem is. there are three major issues that seem to happen around the same time. 1. while slowing down and the engine is idling it has a tendency to stall. it stalls at many stop signs and red lights. sometimes when i'm just idling the engine will fluxuate between 400 and 1000 rpm's and then it will stall. 2. while driving i will lose all electrical power. the lights will flash and the dash will ding and click. the tachometer and speedometer will go to 0 the engine will remain running while this happens. if the ignition is turned off and re-started the problem seem to vanish. 3. out of nowhere the jeep won't start. all i get is a clicking noise when i turn the ignition. the dash lights up and the lights work and the radio works. the battery tests out fine. i've had the battery, alternator, and started replaced but the issue remains. it will eventually start, but the problem return in a few days. i've had the jeep into the dealership but they can't find anything wrong. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly shut off. the contact also indicated that the speedometer did not function. while depressing the brake pedal, the brakes malfunctioned and the vehicle would not stop. the cause of the failures were not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) was received in september of 2015. after contacting the dealer on multiple occasions, the contact was informed that the parts needed to repair the vehicle were still not available and no estimated time for receiving the parts could be given. the failure mileage was 70,000.

I have been having a problem with my 2005 jeep grand cherokee since october of 2008. i have been at my wit's end because i have had the ecm replaced along with the battery and starter and the same intermittent starting continues. i have just discovered that i am not the only one. please refer to the link below. i urge you to investigate this problem. i have had four jeeps and this is the only one i have had a problem with and it seems that a large number of people have the same problem. this seems to be a problem that begs for an investigation. the date i have indicated is only the latest date of the incidents that have occurred since october 2008. i have had three incidents this week starting on july 18th and ending the 23rd. http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/jeep grand_cherokee/2005_jeep_gc_not_starting [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

While driving the ignition switch position turns to the accessory position. the engine initially turns off and then resumes running. the air conditioner turns off and remains off, the headlights flash on and off and then turn off, and all the dash lights flicker on and off several times and then they stay on as if in the accessory position. if i quickly and slightly turn the ignition key the car resumes a normal operating mode. i'm not sure what all else is turned off when this happens because i have not experimented with other electronics such as the windows, seats, etc. when this occurs. the problem seems to be caused if i bump the key ring with my knee or i hit a small bump in the road. at first the problem was intermittent and somewhat infrequent but over time the frequency has increased. as of late, this seems to happen about every time i drive the car. *tr

I bought my 2005 jeep grand cherokee in april 2010 so i have had it for 5 months. in that 5 months the driver side rear door handle has completely broken and fallen into the door, the passenger side rear door has cracked and will be completely broken soon, the passenger front door handle is just beginning to crack so the only one that really works 100% is the driver door handle. i have an extended bumper to bumper warranty that we purchased and were told the only thing it didn't cover was the dvd player...well they lied! about a month after we bought the jeep while driving the ac would shut off and everything on the dash would start to blink on and off and then suddenly stop, i took it in and all they said was we could not get it to do it again. we recently had the rear differentials repaired due to them going out, they actually covered that under the warranty. the only other issue is sometimes while stopped at a stoplight and idle the jeep will seem like it wants to die but never does. i only have 56000 miles on my car and have owned it 5 short months and have had all of these issues, my main concern is the door handles because not only can my 3 kids not get out if there is an emergency, but where the plastic has cracked it has sharp edges and they could easily cut their hands. something needs to be done before that happens! what is it going to take, an injured child????? *tr

2005 jeep grand cherokee has had continuous electrical problems with engine light coming on and stalling since it had about 9000 miles on it and was bought new. dealership has looked at it several times and could not every find anything wrong with it and usually clears out failure and problems occur shortly after again. after the vehicle stranded me a week ago and once again the service department found nothing wrong-replaced the battery, the vehicle is stalling more than ever and almost had a serious accident that could have been fatal because the power went out driving on the interstate with power steering gone and came close to getting hit by a tractor trailer. was able to throw into neutral and restart, but this is not a safe condition. the area on interstate was in a construction zone and it seems the problem typically occurs when decelerating below 30 mph. *tr

Jeep grand cherokee ltd 2005- we have 4 drivers in our family 2 adults and 2 teenagers. our jeep will suddenly cut out and turn off while we are on the freeway at 65 plus speeds the car just dies everything just locks off and the car is just dead. it has happened over 6 times. you are on a freeway and somehow have to maneuver over to the side of the freeway. its very scary. it has happened to me four times my husband once and my daughter once. the car also doesn't start right away once you are on the shoulder. very dangerous situation no rhyme or reason and no warning i have read other jeeps are having this problem. *tr

The ignition switch on this car is in failure mode . all dashboard lights , speedometer flash or or down to zero speed . this only happens momentarily as the lights and speedometer come right back on . it seems that it happens more when the temperature is between 30 to 40 degrees farenheit. i had this car in for service for this problem to bedford chrysler(814-623-1141 in bedford , pennsylvania multiple times . the problem would not recreate itself . once when driving at highway speeds , it flashed multiple times . i reached for the ignition key and moved it slightly , the problem immediately stopped . i have been following the ignition switch recall but not sure if this is an affected model. once i noticed this problem , i had my wife try the same thing with the keys , and the problem would go away for her . i do not have exact dates of occurences , but i do know it has happened multiple times . the car never shut itself down with this problem . *js

The sunroof/moonroof does not set appropriately when closed and causes water leak and subsequent water damages. this also leads to the drainage lines to clog up and causes water to backup into sensitive electrical components within the roof. my maplight and homelink buttons along with the sunroof engine and buttons have all failed to operate as a result of water damages. please request a recall on this as there is a database of consumers with similar complaints. *tr
