Problems with 2017 Honda CR-V FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2017 Honda CR-V starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 15 336 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2017 Honda CR-V

Vehicle was driven friday 1/3/2020 in a mix of driving that included thirty-five miles at 70mph+ and secondary trip of ten miles in town that was a mix of traffic lights and slow moving traffic. while driving vehicle in slow moving traffic cabin of vehicle filled with gas fumes, first faintly, but became worse until headache and nausea occurred. vehicle was eventually parked and rested for ten minutes to check oil along with interior air refresh. while checking oil i observed the oil level .75 inches above the full mark on the dip stick with an overall strong odor of fuel. engine operated as it always has, no check engine light, and no evidence of drive ability problems. oil level was also observed to be .75 inches above full mark 11/24/2019 and subsequent photo was taken. oil was changed 1/4/2020 at 50,189 with oil life at 50% with 5,714 miles. prior oil change service occurred at 44,475 miles on 8/27/2019 and the oil level was verified at full line . fuel smells have been noticed in this vehicle since 300 miles on odometer. vehicle was brought to dealer december 12/2017 for fuel smell complaint but no rectification made. 12/2018 the dealer performed tsb 18-114 which included hvac module replacement, and reprogram tcu and pcm, and change oil. after this much anticipated update virtually no change was observed as oil rise and fuel smells continued to occur. during the winter of 2018-2019 oil rise increased .50" above full mark at 5000 mile oil, but premium fuel was utilized consistently. we also observed very few instances of gas smell in cabin. manufacturer has communicated this vehicle does not require premium fuel. this vehicle is driven mostly highway miles, 25 miles per trip at 70mph+. our driving situation contradicts the manufacturer explanation of short trips as cause of excessive oil dilution by fuel.

Oil level rises to above height mark on dipstick. engine power loss. smell of gas in cabin. oil leak because of rising oil level in engine.

The emissions light came on, started to have an odor of gasoline in the cabin, fuel milage has decreased, rough idle, hesitation in acceleration. happen in motion, stationary, and when vehicle was off. this vehicle is used mostly on the highway, in the mid-atlantic region.

Gas gets in the oil, gas fumes go into the car itself and make us dizzy while driving (not safe). car sputters (not safe) and heater does not get warm enough to keep the windshield clear in cold weather reducing viability and creating a safety issue. it takes 15 minutes of driving for car to warm up, i don't know how to see out of the windshield for the first 15 minutes. i'm aware this is a known issue with my model, i would like honda to do a recall and really actually fix it. dealer says there is no fix at this time. the service campaign isn't working. i'm reading that the 2019 were supposedly fixed with the same service campaign and it's not working.

On 10/16/2019, dealer replaced all of the fuel injectors, because they failed honda's tests. picked up the vehicle on the evening of 10/16/2019 and drove it home. started driving it to work on 10/17/2019 and while accelerating on the interestate, the engine started misfiring (violent thuds) and the check engine light started flashing repeatedly. i lost power and was able to make it to the side of the road. as soon as the vehicle was stopped, i placed the vehicle in park and then the check engine light no longer blinked or illuminated. had the vehicle towed to the honda dealership. vehicle did not misfire prior to the repairs made by honda. attached is the fuel injector repairs invoice. i also had all required maintenance as indicated in the honda service manual. vehicle has approximately 61000 miles.

Started the vehicle to go home and "emissions system problem" appeared on the dash, along with a check engine light. i was stationary and in a parking lot. was able to drive it back home. took vehicle to honda dealer on 10/14/2019. determined it was a misfire of the fuel injectors and they needed to be replaced. i also had the vehicle serviced as recommended by honda since purchasing it new, which included engine induction service. had 59680 miles on the odomoeter and has the 1.5l turbo engine. i also had all recalls completed when notified.

Engine oil level on dipstick way above what it should be and there is a strong gasoline smell in the engine oil. the honda maintenance minder says 70% engine oil life is left. also the seat heaters don't seem to work. based on what i read online this seems to be somehow linked with the engine oil dilution issue

Tl* the contact's friend owns a 2017 honda cr-v. the contact stated that fuel was leaking into the engine oil without warning. when the contact's friend checked the oil, the oil tank had overflowed and a fuel odor was detected on the oil dipstick. the contact's friend took the vehicle to don ayres honda (4740 lima rd, fort wayne, in 46808, 260-484-0551) and was informed that they could replace the oil. the manufacturer was notified and provided a case number. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 36,000.

Fuel is penetrating the oil in the engine. strong gasoline smell is present on the outside of the vehicle after driving it, regardless of distance. gasoline smell fills cabin while driving vehicle. problems are occurring regardless of distance driven or terrain. fuel is diluting the oil in the vehicle in such large amounts that the oil level is beyond the full level on the oil dip-stick. took vehicle to the dealership, and they informed me that it is a know issue, but that they could not fix it since there is no recall active.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. while driving between 40-45 mph up a small hill, the vehicle lost power and failed to move. the contact also stated that the vehicle rode roughly and sounded as if it had a diesel engine. the contact drove the vehicle home. when the oil was checked with the dipstick, it was over the orange indicator line onto the metal and there was an odor of fuel. the contact called dch honda of temecula (located at 26755 ynez rd, temecula, ca 92591, (951) 268-9197) and was advised to have the vehicle towed to their facility. the dealer was unable to detect the presence of fuel in the oil. the contact stated that when she purchased the vehicle a few weeks ago, the dealer changed the oil. the contact stated that the vehicle had been at the dealer almost two weeks and was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and stated that they would speak with the dealer. if the failure recurred, the contact was instructed to take the vehicle back to the dealer. the approximate failure mileage was 5,000.

Fuel in oil causing high oil level and lowering the viscosity of the oil causing pre mature wear of engine components.

The oil in my engine is being diluted with gasoline. the dipstick never goes below full and the oil is thin and dirty. this is just 1 month after an oil change. occasionally the gas fumes enter the passenger compartment and make driving the car unpleasant. honda dealer says there is no problem. this is an ongoing problem. date below is the last time gas fumes were inside the passenger compartment.

Ran premium gas only and changed oil twice as often as recommended but recently (4/2019) checked oil and it read way above full, looked almost clear after 1500 miles, and smelled strongly of gas again. i noticed the car was accelerating slower and slower than when new. read up on gas in oil problems with this car and saw that honda offered no fix for cars in the state where i live and dealerships apparently deny there is gas in the oil. i was concerned after reading about engines stalling, which of course they will do with gas in the crankcase, honda did recall work on this car that involved changing the oil but not the filter which is ridiculous and which doesn't even begin to address this huge engine problem. i believe this is a potential safety issue because of the risk of the car potentially losing power and/or stalling in freeway traffic. honda has not only not fixed this problem, they continue to sell these cars with engine defects even after they have known about it since 2017.

During oil changes, more oil was coming out than was being put in. oil clearly smells like fuel. when i brought this to honda's attention in early april, i was told to go to a certified honda dealership to get a diagnosis. during the diagnosis done on 4/17/2019, they performed an oil change at 80% oil life which indicated that oil levels were elevated by approximately 1/4th of a quart. i can only imagine how diluted the oil would be at 10 or 15% oil life. according to my case manager and as stated in this paperwork, this is "normal". paperwork provided below with personal information redacted.

Car stalled. and vents smell of gasoline, gear shift is loose. almost got in a car accident with my toddler and husband in car.

I went for an oil change and the place said that the oil smelled like fuel, was very thin. in consumer reports there was a blurb about the honda cr-vs with the 1.5 turbo engine experiencing the mixing of gas in the oil but mainly in the colder, northern states. so, when the oil change people said the oil smelled like gas, i then drove to a honda dealer and they checked it out, but said they didn't see gas in the oil, but i just had the oil changed so of course there wasn't signs of it. so, before my next oil change i will take it to honda so they can see it.

Shifter control button popped off while driving creating a significant hazard to the driver and occupants as reassembling the controller/ shifter can be dangerous. honda usa ( catherine) reported this is not a honda issue. and refused to provide towing.

I believe my vehicle is part of the honda 1.5l oil-fuel problem first noticed back in late 2017. i did not think much about it until i talked with two other co-workers who also have 2017 honda cr-vs. first, my engine performance slowly drops after each oil change, then picks back up again once i have gotten an oil change. second, this was my first winter with my cr-v and i noticed that it has a very hard time accelerating during the winter months even after letting the engine warm up for several minutes. lastly, the instrument panel says that my oil level is at a certain %, for instance it says that i am at 20% right now, however, when i check the dipstick, i see oil well above the "full" line. i would like to know what i can do to remedy this problem. i live in the state of virginia, and noticed that there is no fix for vehicles in my state.

I recently bough a used 2017 honda cr-v. it had only 29,000 miles with a fresh oil change before purchase. i have put over 1,000 miles on it since purchase. i recently was informed of oil dilution problems with the 1.5l turbo and decided to confirm if my vehicle was affected. i checked the oil from the engine after letting it cool and my oil level was above the max level. also, there is a strong smell of gasoline coming from the oil. this deeply concerns me as the oil level shouldn't be above the max level and the increased wear that can occur from diluted oil. honda has yet to issue a recall or admit this is a widespread issue. i will be contacting honda in hopes of full resolution.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. while the vehicle was undergoing routine service, the independent mechanic noticed an odor of fuel present in the oil. antrim way honda (200 s. antrim way green, castle, pa) was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 43,000.

My vehicle's warning lights are on for all features, including lane assist, stability, collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, tire pressure monitoring and many others. these features are currently not working. the first time the issue occurred was immediately upon starting the vehicle. i've taken it to two different dealers three times. the third time, i was told there was a problem with a fuel valve -- part of a honda "campaign," whatever that means -- and that replacing/repairing the issue could take up to 60 days. i was dismissed from the dealer and told that the issue would not make my car stop working, and that i would be contacted when a part arrived. meanwhile, my car is idling rough and i smell gas upon starting it.

While driving on a major highway with busy traffic enroute to the honda dealership my 2017 honda crv experienced a significant drop in power dropping from 65mph speed limit to 20mph. i had semi trailers behind me and it was a very dangerous situation. i had to drive a couple of miles to find a place i could pull over onto the shoulder out of traffic. losing power like this puts lives at risk. honda should provide a recall! honda claims it as a product upgrade to the 1.5 liter turbocharged engine touring model. gasoline was getting into the oil as it wasn't burning properly so putting my life and probably damaging my car.

While driving, safety systems go offline. adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation, collision mitigation braking system, and others all go offline at the same time. appears to happen at random. first visit to dealer, we were advised they did not see any codes and there was no malfunction at that time. next visit, all the systems were still offline from earlier in the day and they performed some software updates which reset everything. next day, safety systems went offline again. we took the vehicle back to the dealer where it is right now and they are advising that it is a fuel issue and gasoline is getting into the oil . no explanation how or why this is causing the safety systems to go offline and become inoperable. have contacted honda multiple times along they way, currently waiting on a case manager to call back.

My 2017 crv has been smelling of gasoline. when i checked the oil dipstick, the oil level was above the full mark. i contacted my dealership and explained this issue. shortly afterward, i received a recall/"update" notice in the mail for this problem. i took my car into the dealership and the repairs were made (software update, replaced ac unit, oil change). one month has passed, and again, the oil levels are high and the cabin smells of gasoline. the oil level on the dipstick is, again, over the full mark. i contacted both the dealership and american honda motors regarding this issue. i have been given a case number and am waiting to hear back from america honda motors. i am taking pictures of the oil levels on the dipstick, documenting all contacts made with both the honda dealership and america honda motors, and retaining all paperwork regarding repairs to my car concerning this issue.

Oil level is going up. when you check the dip stick, it smells like gas amd it's over the maximum level. for the has pedal, when you press it it's squeaking.

While driving on the highway, the vehicle started to stall and shake. the instrument panel went black, then the audio screen went black. the gas gauge light came on, then turned off on its own. the instrument panel lights came on, all of the warning indicators were on. the dealership stated that the fuel injectors needed replacing and that it would be covered under warranty. they also stated that the whole audio system would need to be replaced but that the part is on back order and would not be able to order until march 1, 2019.

Notice very toxic gasoline smell in vehicle cabin when driving car during colder weather. also, notice gasoline smell in garage after car is parked. have been monitoring the oil level for the past two months. the oil level was 1" above the high level mark in december 2018 and took car to honda dealer . they replaced the oil and made a software update per a honda bulletin. they notified me in writing that the problem is under review and honda techline and engineers are aware of issue but no service bulletins, updates or repairs are available as of this time( dec. 14,2018) it is now jan 28, 2019 and the toxic gas smell is much more severe. usa honda was contacted today and case registered for my vehicle. honda usa told me to again contact the honda dealer regarding the problem. the dealer has been contacted and i'm waiting to hear back to resolve this problem. honda and nhtsa may not consider this a safety issue with this vehicle but it certainly could become a health issue which is why i am notifying nhtsa.

I use the vehicle for short trips. notices gas mileage drastically reduced to 20 mpg. this startted hapening since de 2018. possibly due to very cold weahter. most of cases car is used to drop my kid to a school that is around 2 to 3 miles. milease shows as 20 miles per gallon. touch screen dashboard sometimes goes blank and non responsive.

One day as i was driving, all problem lights on my dashboard began to turn on, chime, and and giving messages such as "tire pressure monitoring poblem", brake system, break hold system , power steering, etc..." and my features such as cruise control and break hold became disabled. we had the spark plugs changed and the problem continued. we did an oil change and discovered that there was over 5 quarts of oil collected when only 3.5 had been pured in, also the oil was smelling like gasoline. we started researching and it seems that this is a problem with this car/model. mechanic diagnosed lower compression on cylinder #4 and kept getting a cylinder #4 error.

Vehicle oil continues to be at elevated levels, oil smells strongly of gasoline and a gasoline smell continues to be present in the cabin of the vehicle. this is still occurring even after the software update with a/c control unit replacement was done in november 2018.

The car strongly smelled of gas after running for short while for a long time. we ignored it initially. later we realized that the odor was too strong to ignore and we have to open the window to get the smell out. the car was taken to the dealer who made some changes. it was taken care of. but the smell re-appeared after a couple of weeks and it was extremely strong during the extreme cold week, end of january 2019. opened the hood and checked the engine oil level and the oil level was too high.

Car occasionally smells like fuel on the inside. this happens at times days after the last time the gas tank was filled. appears to be a leak somewhere. can sometimes occur while car is in motion on highway or idling at standstill.

Gas is mixing in the oil of our new 2017 honda cr-v. the 1.5 liter engine does not warm up sufficiently in cold weather, runs rich, and leaves un-combusted gas in the oil. began losing power.

I own a 2017 honda cr-v 1.5 turbo fwd and my vehicle is suffering from the affects of 'oil dilution.' i regularly have my oil changed by honda, but i noticed, upon returning from a long trip in northern inidiana over winter, a strong odor of gasoline when checking my oil-dipstick and the volume was much higher than expected. when i brought my vehicle to honda, i was advised that honda was aware of a problem for all 2017-2018 cr-v 1.5 turbos with residual gas dripping into the cylinders and eventually the oil crank-case, called 'oil dilution'. i asked the honda technician to check for gasoline in my oil, but they said no such test was available. he advised me that no fix currently exists, aside from more frequent oil changes. i then followed up with the lead technician at my dealer to resolve the safety concern, but i was verbally told that honda does not intend to address the issue unless litigation is mandated. i believe this problem posses a major safety concern as these vehicles age and the risk of engine seizure or explosion increase. honda north america's position is that since there are so few 2017 cr-vs with turbo on the road, they do not see a reason to act. there is a fundamental problem with this honda turbo fuel injection system, which was fixed for the 2019 models. a software patch is being issued by honda canada, but this is not offered in southern states and honda refuses to comment on the long term impact and degraded performance. i am deeply concerned for the safety of my family and fellow drivers.

There is a strong smell of gas in the oil and is very black with 70percent of oil life. the problem was reported and noted as an affected model. no fix to date! i am very concerned about the engine life

I check engine oil yesterday and found level very high on dipstick and smelling strongly of gasoline. i called the honda dealer checkered flag where i purchased the vehicle and took it directly there.it had only been 180 miles driven since last oil change at dealer. they offered to change oil again and then told me to keep checking oil level and return to dealer in 1000 miles. i was told the oil level was half quart over filled and was because gas was not being burned during combustion because engine was not hot enough. they said it was normal and not to worry. i don't think the oil will protect my engine when it is so diluted with gasoline.i filed a complaint and got a case number [xxx] from honda america, but want the problem to be fixed before there is long term damage to my engine. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The car is stalling from taking off from a stop. it's has been determined there is fuel getting into the oil pan causing the engine to stall at times, making merging into traffic unsafe.

In cold weather, when the car isn't to full operating temperature, fuel mixes with the engine oil which increases the oil volume over time. honda has issued a recall in northern states but refuses to address other states where the problem exists (problem fully documented from the local dealer). recall needs to be expanded to all states. too much engine oil (mixed with fuel) will cause the car to stall. in addition, after talking to honda corporate - they indicated a potential long term impact with damaged a cam shaft. yet, they still refuse to fix my car or provide free oil changes until they decide to fix it. this has been an ongoing issue for over a year - fully documented.

As i was driving in the fast lane of the 405 freeway the car started to vibrate and make a lot of noise. then it slowed down and would not accelerate at a normal rate. i went from 65 mph to about 30mph and barely avoided faster cars while pulling to the exit lane. i was able to take surface streets home. i thought it might be a blown head gasket so i checked the oil for water and found a lot of gas in it. the dipstick showed the level to be almost 1 1/4 inches above the max level line even after letting it sit for 30 minutes. when i took it to the dealership they said that this is normal and said the manufacturer said all i need is an oil change.

Upon seeing all of the complaints about the 1.5 liter turbo engine in the cr-v's and civics, i inspected the oil in my 2017 honda cr-v only 100 miles after it was changed by the local honda dealer. i pulled out the dipstick and noticed that the oil level was over the recommended limit and it was very dark in color. i leaned into the engine and noticed a strong presence of a gasoline smell. i have also noticed the presence of this smell before inside of the cabin but i thought it could be from something else. i am convinced it's coming from the engine. honda needs to do something about this.

Oil dilution problem causing misfires while driving and throwing all saftey related features to throw codes and not function, throws codes and misfires while driving.has been to dealer 3 times and not resolved.

stalling, loss of engine power, smell of gas in the passenger compartment, audio display erratic, all while car is in motion; front running lights blinking when foot on brake. problems occur in cold weather.

Fuel smell in cabin

Oil mixing in the engine to the extent that may very well install the engine while driving in the high way. honda corp need to get this issue fixed to prevent it happen

Fuel is mixing in with the oil, car is much more sluggish, noticing gas smell in the cabin (that cant be healthy!!)

On 12-5-2018 i started smelling gas fumes in and around the vehicle, while driving or parked. contacted dealership 12-7-2018, scheduled an appointment and went in today. they are aware of the problem but said all they can do is change the oil as they don't have a fix for the problem of fuel getting into oil on my 1.5 turbo. (this problem has been going on since 2015 based on documentation found on the internet.) when i got ready to leave the dealership the gas smell started up again so the oil change doesn't appear to have helped. since this has started i've also started getting headaches when i drive my vehicle. i'm also concerned that my vehicle could catch fire or breakdown. i'm not sure what else to do.

I smell gasoline in the cabin while driving. i'm really concerned because i have my 2 year-old son in the car with me most of the time. that's going to cause some health issues. the oil level shown on the dip stick is always high and has heavily gas smell when dip stick is pulled out of engine.

My 2017 honda cr-v has a strong fuel odor coming from the engine oil dipstick. also, the oil level rises above the full mark indicator on the dipstick. a fuel odor coming from the vents when the heater is on. also, heater doesn't appropriately heat up the cabin. consequently, i took my car to a honda dealer and they told me they were unaware of this being a problem. they ran a diagnostics on the car and told me to come back when next oil change is due. after researching this fuel odor problem on the internet, i discovered that this issue was a result of gasoline leaking into the engine oil compartment. this problem is called oil dilution and it causes the car to stall unexpectedly. this may happen on the highway and result in serious injury or death when traveling at a high rate of speed. also, it is hazardous to be inhaling gasoline fines coming from the vents. not to mention the damage it's causing to the engine itself. honda hasn't taken any action to fix this serious safety hazard.

Oil diluted with fuel, over full. strong fuel odor in vehicle.
