Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2015 GMC Sierra 1500

The brakes at slow rate of speed become very hard to operate and push. made appointment with gmc dealer for service (sched for 1/31).

While pulling into a parking lot ant a friend apartment i was turning into a parking spot when the truck completely died causing no power steering or braked nearly causing me to hit his neighbors car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 19v761000 (electronic stability control, service brakes, hydraulic, service brakes). the contact took the vehicle to finnegan chevrolet buick gmc (26529 southwest fwy, rosenberg, tx 77471, (281) 342-4200) to be serviced for the software update. after the contact had the vehicle repaired per the recall, while driving at a low rate of speed, the brakes failed to operate without warning. the vehicle was towed back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a faulty brake vacuum pump. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist because the vehicle was previously repaired per the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 65,000.

When exiting from one highway to another in heavy traffic were breaking was required, my trucks power steering and power brakes had completely gone out. i was on a straight track for a highway patrol who was standing outside his vehicle along with another motorist. after fighting to steer the truck while trying to brake to avoid hitting other motorists i realized that the truck had also died. shook up and scared i started the truck and began to drive away with the officer yelling what the hell are you doing. the truck has done this several times. three of which almost resulted in an accident. it has been in the dealership were they told me it was a high resistance in the negative battery cable which was replaced and resulted in no change.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. while the contact was driving approximately 35 mph, the preceding vehicle stopped abruptly. when the brake pedal was depressed, it traveled to the floorboard. the contact started to pump the brake pedal; however, the vehicle crashed into the rear of the stopped vehicle. there were no injuries, but the contact stated that he felt a bit sore. a police report was filed. the air bags operated as intended. the vehicle was towed to quebedeaux buick gmc (located at 3566 e. speedway boulevard, tucson, az, 85716) to be diagnosed and repaired. the contact was informed that there was a failure with the brakes, but was not given a definitive diagnosis. the contact stated that the estimate for the repair was $22,000. the repair was still pending. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the manufacturer was not informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 78,000.

Brakes wouldn't stop

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. while operating the vehicle at night, both the low beam and high beam headlights illuminated extremely low, which created a visibility hazard for the driver. also, while driving in forward and reverse, the brake pedal became extremely hard to depress and the stopping distance was extended. the contact indicated that the failures were more present while driving at low speeds in reverse and after pressing the brake pedal multiple times. the cause of the failures was not determined. charlie's chevrolet (1412 us route 202, winthrop, me 04364) and the manufacturer were notified. the failure mileage was 14,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. the contact stated that the vehicle exhibited reduced braking power when driving at low speeds. the vehicle was taken to mike raisor buick gmc (2912 main street, lafayette, indiana 47904, (765) 273-4954) for nhtsa campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes) in august of 2019. within a couple of weeks, the brake system failure worsened after the repair. the contact also experienced reduced braking power when driving at high speeds. in addition, the brake assist feature failed before the vehicle was stopped. the contact stated that the stopping distance was significantly longer. the manufacturer was contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 32,000.

While backing up. brake pedal went all the way to the floor and was unable to stop. managed to get it to stop. i have heard about a brake booster issues.

I only have 57,000 miles on my truck, which is why i am reporting this. the truck turns off completely. i have been going to make a right/left turn and the truck shuts down completely. i have no power steering and limited brakes. this has happened to me twice now. i am lucky enough that i am strong enough to turn the truck without power steering otherwise i would have hit vehicles both times this happened. there has to be some type of electrical flaw that is making this happen. i want to get this resolved before my insurance company has to get involved because i am in a car accident. if this is something the manufacturer takes care of that would be great, otherwise i would just like to know if someone else has had this issue and has found the resolution.

When coming to a stop the brake pedal gets hard to depress and the rate of deceleration chages makes it hard to jusge when and where the vehicle will end up.

While in a drive through i was creeping up and when trying to come to a stop my brake pedal would not depress all the way as normal and took a longer than normal time to stop even with both feet pushing on the brake pedal. i ended up rolling into the car in front of me. i took the car to the dealership the next day and was told that my vacuum pump/brake booster needed to be replaced.

When you step on the brakes in motion the brake pedal is hard and vehicle takes longer to stop.

The brakes periodically do not work at low speeds. the brake pedal gets hard to push to the point you have to stand on the brakes to get the vehicle to stop. i haven't gotten in an accident yet but it's been very close twice now where i've almost hit a car in front of me at a stop sign.

My 2015 gmc sierra failed to stop at low speeds today. i avoided the collision by pulling off the side of the road. the peddle was extremely hard to push. i received a notice by gmc that its the vaccum pump and they will only cover the warranty up to 72k miles. my truck has 72,560 miles.

The brake turn hard when i am going in reverse in a slow speed.

Brake pedal stiff/hard when applying breaks. problem occurs periodically within the city and highway.

Hard brake pedal at low speeds especially while towing or traveling on inclines. brake pedal becomes hard to decompress without warning and vehicle is unable to be stopped.

Brake vacuum pump: while attempting to stop, the brake pedal became very firm and the vehicle was difficult to stop. the vehicle continued to move while depressing the brake pedal and required a substantial amount of effort to make the vehicle come to a stop. it was intermittent, but it did occur several times on the day i first noticed it and was often at low speed. fortunately i was not involved in any accident when this first occurred. i was able to drive it to the nearest dealership immediately and had it repaired that day. the dealer was able to duplicate the issue and determined the vacuum pump to be defective and required to be replaced. once replacing the vacuum pump, the brakes performed as expected. attached is a copy of my invoice with the dealer narrative describing the repair.

After coming to a stop or reaching slow speed, the brake pedal becomes firmer with each pump until the pedal only moves roughly an inch before stopping, and braking force is barely enough to keep the truck from idling forward. when this happens on a downward slope at a stoplight it requires massive amount of force on the brake pedal to keep the truck from rolling into the car in front of it. also, if traffic begins to move after a stop and then stops again abruptly without gaining much speed, the same thing will occur and it is extremely difficult to not hit the rear end of the car in front. after doing some research this seems to be a common issue with the vacuum pump. i will be visiting a dealer soon. 2015 gmc sierra slt with 57,000 miles.

Low speed brakes hard and takes time to slow and stop. brakes seized backing down driveway 2xs. got notification from gmc that they are aware the vacuum /power my be defective and if you experience this problem the dealership would fix it at no cost but ot had to have less then 72,00 miles. drop it off at our dealership and they claim no problems found. they had for 3 days and just drove it around with a computer hooked up to it. said no codes came up so they are not bothering with it. pick it and still the same. husband went back. they don't want to bother cuz the milage is over 72,000. we have 75,000. i am afraid to drive it. they need to be recalled for the vacuum /power brake issue. our truck is only 4 yrs old and we paid big money for it. we live chevy/gmc. we would never own anything else. recalk is needed.

I after pulling into a service station, i was backing up and suddenly had no brakes. i almost hit another vehicle.

Brake failure at parking lot speed. while reversing in truck, brakes became hard and failed. almost hit another vehicle.

Hard to no braking at low speed. power brake assist failure.

Increased / inconsistent brake pedal effort at low speeds; truck takes more effort to stop, increased breaking distance

At low idle the braking become very stiff and extreme pressure on the brake peddle is need to stop the vehicle. hank graff of durand mi indicated it is due to a failed brake assist vacuum pump. the service rep. also experienced the issue when they pulled the vehicle into the repair bay. as the owner, i have experienced this braking issue multiple times.

While pulling into a parking lot my brakes failed to stop my truck twice. the brake pedal was very stiff, like it was a manual brake and not power. had to depress brake pedal very hard to get my truck to stop. i shut off the engine and then restarted and the brake pedal returned to normal.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. while driving 50 mph, the brakes failed to respond and the contact lost control of the vehicle. the contact drove on the shoulder and was able to park in a rest area to inspect the vehicle. the contact drove the vehicle back home. the vehicle was taken to mcgovern buick gmc (located at 2806, 150 turnpike rd, westborough, ma 01581, (508) 439-4362) where it was diagnosed that the vacuum brake pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 102,000. the vin was unknown.

Brake booster vacuum faulty. causing a near miss in drive thru almost rear ending another car. vacuum pump faulty.brakes become hard to push and get no response. this is a very dangerous. gm needs to have a re-call before people get killed. it is a known issue lots of the same complaints.

Brake pedal won't go down and is stiff . brakes don't react.

At first the issue started as i was parking in reverse, pressed the brakes and the truck did not want to stop until i put a lot of pressure on the brakes. then pulled forward to check and it did the same thing so i parked the truck and left it overnight. it worked fine in the morning and the next few days. then it happened again after about a five hour drive home from work i exited the freeway exit 99 in tumwater the brakes got really stiff and was not slowing quick enough for the stop sign coming up, i slowed to about 35mph then realized it wasn't gonna stop so i pressed the brakes as hard i could swerving just past the stop sign until it stopped. preceded slowly got some fuel and still had about another hour drive home and now the brakes was really stiff and truck would not stop unless i put a lot of pressure on the brakes. so i got back on the freeway going only about 55 mph increasing my stopping distance crawling all the way home having press the brakes extremely hard when i needed to stop for traffic lights. now i'm afraid to drive the truck anywhere without fearing of the brakes not working at all completely. it

Brake vacuum pump. at slow speeds my brakes almost don't seem to work. i'm sure it's the same problem i've read about.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. while backing out of a parking space, the contact depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle did not stop. as a result, the contact struck a parked vehicle. a police report was not filed and there were no injuries. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the brake vacuum pump was damaged and needed replacement. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 48,499.

Yesterday afternoon while backing out of parking spot, my brakes became unresponsive. the pedal was extremely hard to press and would not stop the vehicle. the result was the vehicle rolling down an inclined parking lot and hitting another vehicle. normal braking had resumed when leaving the accident. this is the second time for the brakes to become unresponsive at low speeds. approximately 1 month ago the same situation happened driving through a parking lot. brakes became extremely firm and unable to stop the vehicle. no damage resulted from that incident. after reading several message boards, it appears to be a widespread issue with this vehicle that results in replacement of multiple power braking components. i currently feel extremely fortunate that my brakes did not fail 5 minutes earlier while picking up my child from school.

Brakes failed to reser at low speeds, resulting in near collision. brake pedal became stiff and unresponsive. has also happened previously, was told brake vacuum pump failure is the cause. was notified this does not qualify under vehicle warranty despite reading of multiple reports of failure, technical bulletin release, and immediate safety issues.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. while an independent mechanic was inspecting the vehicle, the contact was informed of a radiator leak. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to goodwin chevrolet brunswick (located at 195 pleasant st, brunswick, me 04011, (866) 675-8244) where it was diagnosed that the radiator and air conditioner condenser needed to be replaced. the contact also stated that the brake pedal was difficult to depress and the windshield wipers failed to function. the brake and windshield wiper failures were not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 107,000.

Backing up the truck the brake pedal became hard and the truck would not stop like i lost power i almost hit my dog and the garage it was very scary

At low speed and on a number of occasions, the brakes have seemed to lose power and it required a lot of brake pressure to stop the vehicle and avoid hitting another vehicle, my garage, etc. it had been happening intermittently over the past month or so. went in to the dealer and they replaced the vacuum pump at a cost of approx $600.

Very difficult to stop the truck while going at a low rate of speed 5 to 10 mph. had to forcefully apply pressure to the brake pedal to get it to stop still required more stopping distance. brakes did not become fully functional until after placing the vehicle in park and shutting the vehicle down waiting for approximately 15 minutes. restarted the vehicle and brake were functioning properly. this event occured at approximately 46,000 miles on the vehicle. following day brought the truck into the local gmc dealer and verified that the truck has a braking problem found a leaking brake booster and master cylinder.

Vacuum pump failed at 58000 miles. lost brake assist at parking lot speeds. could have caused an accident.

The brakes at a low rate of speed (1-10 mph) partially gives out which prolongs the stopping distance of the vehicle. it seems as though the abs kicks in but for no reason. must strongly push down on the pedal to get vehicle to stop, which still requires additional stopping distance. has occurred sporadically from mid-2018 to march 2019. no resolution through dealership.

On several occasions slow driving in parking lots i have lost power assist braking and almost hit a car parked in the spot in front of me. i have read online about the issue with the brake vacuum pump and am thinking that is my issue. my brake pedal after a few pumps will get super stiff. on every occasion that this happened it was slow moving adjusting into a parking spot and had pumped the brakes several times. the pedal then becomes still and pushing the brake pedal does not get the braking power as expected.

Brakes completely failed. replaced brakes on all 4 wheels, but to no avail. then replaced the master cylinder and still no brakes. my fence pole and mailbox stopped my vehicle.

I pushed on the brakes when slowly pulling into a parking spot and the brakes got squishy and barely stopped before i hit another parked car. this happened a few times before i got the vehicle home. then a message popped up that said "service brake assist system". i took the truck in and they said they would need to replace the vacuum pump and 2 belts.

Brakes not working. had to replace the vacuum pump belt, brake booster vacuum pump, and ac belt. cost $573.86. vehicle only has 40k miles. very dangerous, vehicle would not stop when applying brakes

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra. while driving low speeds, the vehicle violently vibrated and made an abnormal noise. also, the stabilitrak and check engine indicators illuminated. the contact mentioned that the check engine indicator periodically illuminated and flashed. also, while driving, extra force was needed to depress the brake pedal and stop the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to boulevard buick gmc (2800 cherry ave, signal hill, ca 90755, (562) 492-1000) where the contact was informed that the vehicle misfired and the entire engine needed to be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 59,000.

At low speeds breaking becomes extremely difficult leading to longer stopping distance.
