We have classified the 76 complaints from 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 about EXTERIOR LIGHTING into the following categories.
When exiting from one highway to another in heavy traffic were breaking was required, my trucks power steering and power brakes had completely gone out. i was on a straight track for a highway patrol who was standing outside his vehicle along with another motorist. after fighting to steer the truck while trying to brake to avoid hitting other motorists i realized that the truck had also died. shook up and scared i started the truck and began to drive away with the officer yelling what the hell are you doing. the truck has done this several times. three of which almost resulted in an accident. it has been in the dealership were they told me it was a high resistance in the negative battery cable which was replaced and resulted in no change.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. while operating the vehicle at night, both the low beam and high beam headlights illuminated extremely low, which created a visibility hazard for the driver. also, while driving in forward and reverse, the brake pedal became extremely hard to depress and the stopping distance was extended. the contact indicated that the failures were more present while driving at low speeds in reverse and after pressing the brake pedal multiple times. the cause of the failures was not determined. charlie's chevrolet (1412 us route 202, winthrop, me 04364) and the manufacturer were notified. the failure mileage was 14,000.
2015 gmc sierra sle / 60k miles / projector headlights...numerous complaints from numerous others, i'm in the same boat. illumination in general, driving in rural areas, driving in inclement weather, making turns (side streets), etc., is horrible, unsafe, nerve-racking and troublesome. sure, the headlights look snazzy, but perform about as well as my lawn tractor's headlights. i see there's a tsb regarding the situation and, much to my dismay, i have to pay for said parts/labor to correct an obvious design flaw/snafu. am i crazy for thinking this is unacceptable? even more shocking, it appears the bcm reprogramming (marginal results) and lamp replacement is problematic (increased voltage to a bulb/lamp shortens its life considerably). a vehicle that costs 30-40-50k should not have garbage technology. on the plus side, at 48 years young, my vision remains 20/20 and i do not require vision correction. the wife, my 2 kids (of driving age) and my neighbor concur - these headlights suck. i love everything else about the vehicle, but it looks like instead of spending $200 for the tsb, i'll try my luck with aftermarket replacements for $300. via multiple online vehicle forums, most who've gone the route of tsb are marginally impressed and everyone electing to go with aftermarket is completely satisfied...that alone shines a spotlight on the lack of visibility both the nhtsa and gm are providing the consumer. maybe instead of paying suits millions per year to produce subpar vehicles, gm should do the right thing and focus on what matters most -- the paying customer. yeah, we have a better shot with the nhtsa holding gm accountable and force them into a recall (correcting the problem properly, not a willy nilly reprogram and bulb replacement).
The bulbs in the tail lights corrode in place due to excess road grime (salt, sand, etc.) being splashed up on them. this causes them to burn out prematurely and removal is impossible due to the corrosion of the bulb into the socket. this results in having to replace the entire wiring harness. according to my local gmc dealership (west herr), this is a common problem that gm isn't covering. so, i had to pay for a new wiring harness out of pocket in order to replace one of the tail light bulbs.
Projector style headlights that came factory are too dim making it very difficult to drive at night and unsafe. lights are now powerful enough to light up the road.
Headlights are poor. low and high beams do not illuminate the road effectively in rural areas
The stock factory head lamps/bulbs are very dim and do not light up the side of the road or very far down the road and the lights have a very sharp cut off line.
Headlights are very dim, hard to see at night especially when it is raining. must use fog lamps at all times to be able to improve vision. contacted gm and dealer about issue, have claim number. they say truck is no longer under warranty to do anything.
Night time vision is compromised due to poor headlight illumination, most notable in areas of low ambient lighting or rain. this has been present since purchased new. truck headlight bulbs were updated under general motors service bulletin pit5374b at local gmc dealer where vehicle was purchased. charge for this update was $149.21. while i do not hold the dealer responsible for this charge, i do feel the substandard lights should be considered a mandatory safety issue and dealt with as such
Headlight quality headlight quality is very poor, side lighting and distance lighting are terrible. gm issued a tsb but no recall for people who complained about the headlights.i purchased at 37k so am beyond the 3yr/36k. i am looking into after market fixes for the problem. i was told the problem was fixed in the 2016 models.
Poor quality headlights, very difficult to not "over drive" the projected range of headlights. in reality, you should probably never drive over 35 mph after dark. it is impossible to see anything in the rain.
The headlights on my 2015 gmc serria 1500 slt are unsafe. the headlights do not light to the sides adequitely and this is very apparent when making a turn at night. i have also read about this same headlight safety concern on several websites posted by other owners.
Loss of power steering assist, steering wheel jerks or kicks back when turning, messages with warning chime appear on instrument panel which also goes blank or inoperative, engine stalls and dies. this happens while vehicle is in motion on city street or hwy i10 (in bumper to bumper traffic) and when turning or backing up into a parking spot. this has happened before but more recently lately (at least once a day since 9/16 -9/18/2017)
As well as having very poor visability, the haedlight bulbs on my truck have blown out 5 times in only two years. there is obviuosly something wrong with something besides the bulbs.i am going broke replacing them. i called the dealer and was told that it would cost me 115.00 an hour just to look at the truck. i would rather give the truck back, than pay to have a problam that is obviously a manufacturing defect, fixed. the lights have went out both while moving, and stationary.
Very poor headlights. i just can't see. it is like a fog. nlocked out side views. dims are not good and brights don't even get flashed by oncoming vehicles. they shine in the trees. i took the vehicle in three times to a dealer of gmc's and they don't have a solution. they said they realize the problem but hands are tied because i think if they start to fix it a can of worms will be opened up and cost the company. how many complaints must you have?
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. while driving at any speed at night, the contact could not see above 50 to 55 feet ahead. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (graff chevrolet, okemos, mi, 517-349-8300) where the technician utilized the tsb instructions and adjusted the headlights. the contact stated that the lights became brighter, but the failure was not completely repaired. the contact did not remember whether the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 12,000.
Gmc upgraded the headlamps as a "fix" for the extremely poor side and forward illumination by the vehicle. the "fix" is still such a poor excuse for headlamp illumination that we keep from driving the vehicle at night as a "safety" reason. the poor performance continues and the dealership has exhausted what gmc/gm is willing to do and is not the dealerships problem but gm's. i would send a photo of the poor headlight performance but you can't see it as it was on a rainy night and the headlamps then are even worse. what a poor excuse for a fix. gmc/gm fixed the issues in the 2016 and 2017 but due to the cost of reworking the trucks they sold in 2014 and 2015 they hide behind the sorry fix they make the dealers try to make the customers go away.
When driving in rural areas at night headlights only illuminate out about 100 feet in front of the vehicle creating a black line with almost no visibility above the line and extremely limited side visibility which creates a significant problem when turning in either direction at an intersection and makes it difficult to spot animals, pedestrians or bicyclists.
Head lights are dim both high and low beam .in traffic at night in the rain on the highway can not see lanes .side vision there is none .on hilly back roads vision is limited .low beam you go in a dip lights are in the ground going up other side lights are in the trees. high beams are in the tree tops .only 1 bulb adjust is limited.
Unsafe head lights and the supposed updated headlight are only good for 12 months or 12,000 miles.. the replacements have both burned out already at $50 each.
Headlights are so dim, (high and low beam), that they should be considered a serious safety issue.
On the night of 11/04/2016 we almost hit a person that was not visible to us because of inadequate factory headlights on all gmc 1500 trucks. we have had our truck in for warranty complaint on these light, and after 3 dealers in 3 different state the fix they use does not correct the problem. and now gm customer relations e- mail me and state they have done all they can do and closes our claim. nhtsa needs to look in to this asap before some one is killed, i am now afraid to drive this truck after dark
Headlights: you can not drive this truck after dark because the headlights are unsafe. when on low beam there is a black spot from about 3 feet up and there is no side light. this makes it imposable to see curbs, street signs, stop signs, humans and animals on the side of the road street or highway
The headlights do not illuminate the road properly. you cannot see left or right, only straight ahead. also the brightness is very low. dangerous to drive at night.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. the contact stated that the visibility was extremely poor for the oem head lamp assemblies and the day time running lights. the dealer (varney buick gmc mazda, 260 hogan rd, bangor, me 04401, 207-990-1220) was notified several times that when the high beams were utilized, the visibility was extremely poor. the failure was more prevalent during inclement weather. the manufacturer was notified and did not offer another oem light fixture with a higher volume of lighting. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 1,000.
Headlights are dangerous! they produce a very narrow straight ahead light pattern. we live where there are a lot of deer and you can't see them on the side of the road. any curve in the road and you're blind till you get around it. on a aiming board they produce a narrow vertical band of light, if you mark the horizon you find that half the light is shing up in the air. (they light up the tops of trees real nice) because of the 1 bulb design if you adjust them down to get the high beams on the horizon the low beams will only illuminate about 20 feet out. it is just not safe driving this truck in the country at night. gm tried a brighter bulb but the improvement was very minor. the problem is the lense and shutter design.
The headlights on my 2015 gmc sierra are dangerous. they do not produce a sufficient amount of light to cover the driving area. while driving at night the sides of the road are not visible nor are what lies ahead if any curvature is involved. it is to the point where i try to avoid driving it at night. the ones who do not complain either live in town where street lights are present to assist with lighting or they are not driving at night.
I am in receipt of the paperwork concerning the above claimed for my vehicle. the paperwork in my possession clearly states that farmers insurance has made me aware that my vehicle 'has been determined to be a total loss'. i am concerned about these findings since it seemed my vehicle only suffered minor damages to the exterior only. airbags where not deployed nor any windows shattered. i am also in receipt of the paperwork concerning my claim and determining i am 51% at fault towards the accident. i clearly gave my side of the story to the police office that my steering wheel had locked and i was unable to maneuver the vehicle. i was not under the influence of any drugs so i feel mechanical failure should be assessed. supplemental information was also sent to me where it clearly states recall notices for my vehicle. recall notice nhtsa campaign id # 14v719000, dated by the manufacturer november 10, 2014 states a recall notice naming the steering as the component needing to be replaced. i never received any information from the manufacturer gmc/chevrolet concerning this matter. upon review of this letter, please also take into consideration the recalls that you have provided me and reconsider pursuing of subrogation from a third party, i.e. gmc/chevrolet manufacturer.
Headlight illumination extremely poor. even after tsb bulb replacement was completed on vehicle, low and high beam illumination is unsafe and unacceptable.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. the contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, one of the headlights failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was repaired under a manufacturer warranty program, however the failure recurred. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 19,000. updated 08/02/16*lj
Hard to drive at night. headlights do not illuminate roadway very well. and rainy night almost impossible to see with headlight and driving lights on. *tr
Issue: headlights do not provide sufficient light for night driving. unless driving in a well lit neighborhood, these headlights do not provide safe lighting for driving. i can not drive this vehicle at night. the warranty only provided different light bulbs which are no better. these headlights need recalled immediately!
The headlights are very dim and dangerous in this vehicle. very difficult to see at night and dangerous when raining. it's been like this from when i bought it. lighting should be better on a $50k truck.
The headlights are dangerous! low beams with fog lights on are adequate for <45 mph. anything faster and you can't see far enough ahead. forget using the high beams. on dimly lit highways, you can't see in front on the vehicle. the high beams don't illuminate the road so it's safer to use the low beams and hope the 100ft visibility will allow you to slow slightly before killing whatever human/animal/obstacle presents itself. this truck is too dangerous for my family without a retrofit.
The illumination performance of the headlights on my 2015 gmc sierra is unsatisfactory for driving on rural roads. the performance is also subpar in foggy and wet conditions. i feel that i am unable to drive safely at the posted highway speeds using the current headlights provided by the automaker. i feel that it is a safety hazard and could possibly contribute to hazardous driving situations at night. i also feel that it could cause a potential accident due to the poor visibility at posted highway speeds.
Headlights are terrible, output and pattern are poor, very little lateral illumination.unsafe to drive at night in rural area.driving in rain, very dangerous.get eye strain and headache.
Headlights are a mfg defect and this truck is extremely dangers to drive after dark
I own a 2015 gmc sierra. i believe the headlights are too dim. a few days after purchasing my truck new off the lot i missed turning on my street (that i have lived on for 3 years) because i was not able to see the sign or the road properly. i ended up in my neighbor's ditch. luckily there was no damage, but i don't feel safe driving at night on familiar roads due to the insufficient amount light the headlights produce. this occurred while driving after dark on a residential road with 35 mph speed limits. there was not any additional street lighting around to provide supplemental lighting.
Projector-style headlamps on 2015 gmc sierra provide inadequate illumination-even after manufacturer service bulletin was performed, still very unsafe to drive at night in area with no street lights-literally no side illumination, and distance in front of vehicle is not illuminated adequately. gmc (gm) changed headlamp design in 2016 to correct this, but has offered no assistance to owners of 2014-15 vehicles. i've had several close calls with deer at night due to such poor lighting. my previous, 10 yr. old truck had better headlights! hopefully something can be done to correct this issue. complained to dealer, to gmc customer service, now what? seems the manufacturer has no plans to help. headlamp design was poor, only uses a single halogen bulb for high & low beam.
The performance of the gmc headlights seems to be way below par. this truck has the worst headlights i have ever owned. in my opinion this is a safety hazard to myself and the public.
The headlights equipped from the factory on these very expensive trucks are dangerous. when driving in conditions of low light, there is such little illumination from the headlights that it would be difficult if not impossible to avoid a collision due to minimal reaction time. both the high and low beam do not provide sufficient lighting for diving safely in low light conditions. these are the most poorly performing lights i can remember ever having from any manufacturer.
Headlights are extremely dim. high beams provide no illumination to the front sides of the vehicle. using fog lights with low beam is actually brighter than the high beams. even after having the dealer install new bulbs the lighting is very weak in a low illumination area, i.e. no moon, no street light, road. when making a turn in an un lit area i can't even see where the side of the road ends. these so called projector type headlights don't seem to work very well. i know for a fact the 2014 and 2015 have the same set up. the 2016 has a whole new set up with hid lighting and work great. this tells me that gm knows there is a problem. unfortunately their "fix" only if you complain, isn't fixing anything... on a trip in the smokey mountains in gatlinburg tn i nearly crashed off the side of the mountain. i could not see where the edge of the road was. even the passengers asked me "what is wrong with your lights?" the said "turn on your high beams" and i stated, "they are on". we can't believe these light pass the common sense test..
Bought a new 2015 sierra in jan 2016,after i bought it i drove from new brunswick to manitoba and it was the scariest night drive i have ever had (over 30 years of experience )the low beams were dim and had no useful light pattern, and high beam just lit up the tops of trees and signs, driving through ontario's twisty hwy.i almost went off the road many times ,due to the poor lights you will corner with out being able to see till your straight and the light hits the road again. when i arrived in manitoba i took the truck to a dealership ,where they replaced my bulbs ,flashed the bcm and a lined the lights the light is a little better but still not safe as they still don't project much light pattern. i can't see street signs only the bottom of the poles. and highs still point to the sky with no more road light. returned to new brunswick and brought it to the dealership to have it looked at again, and the suggest the same fix as what the manitoba dealer just did. still cannot drive safe at night.
Headlights on this vehicle are useless, can't see driving at night and always feel like i'm overdriving the lights even though i'm not even at the speed limit! *tr
Headlights are so dim that i can't see down the road far enough to see if there would be anything in the road. have repeatedly asked dealer about this, and was told they were aware of the problem but there was no plan to fix it. on rainy nights it's as if i have no headlights at all.
Can't see at nite and worse during rain. it's like a 5 cell flash lite set on the small narrow setting stead of the flood setting. also can't see wild life that are standing near the white line of the shoulders at nite. tunnel vision light. very dangerous, please find a cure. already had gmc's upgraded bulbs.
I previously sent in a compliant on this matter several months ago. the headlights are poor. this is a dangerous condition, they do not project out significantly and the side illumination is nonexistent. i found out on my own that their is a service bulletin on this matter. i took my vehicle back to the dealer, who changed the light bulbs, the improvement is marginal at best. i am extremely cautious if i need to drive the vehicle at night. this is a dangerous condition.
Headlights are inadequate on high or low beams. it seems that the light is focused into two narrow beams in an effort to make up for the low lumen level of the led bulbs. these narrow beams don't light up enough of what is in front of you for night driving. i have to use my fog lamps to turn onto streets without street lights on the corner. the recirculating switch for the ventilation system will not even reduce the amount of outside air coming into the cabin, much less occlude it. not good in 5 o:clock traffic or when your behind a diesel burner. the dealership acts like they are clueless and say everything is working as it should. after reading this form with so many headlight complaints, i asked if they had ever gotten any complaints like mine and they denied that they ever have; and they did it with a straight face!
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. the contact stated that the headlights provided poor illumination and obscured his vision. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the headlight halogen bulbs were replaced, but the visibility had not improved. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 4,500.
The headlights in this vehicle are unsafe. the are dim and only project out a short distance and very little to the periphery. there is also a dark line in the field of view where above it is dark and below is dull light. i have contacted my local gm dealership and the solution was to upgrade the light bulbs which they did. the problem still exists. i escalated it to gm customer service and they tell me there is nothing they can do. this is a very unsafe condition.
