Brakes failed. i was backing into my garage and the pedal became really hard to push. i almost did not get stopped before i hit the wall.
I was backing up and the brake pedal got hard and would not stop the truck. i tried to go forward and the same thing happen.
Vacuum pump vachose assy brake booster and mastercyclinder failure which cause brake failure while driving. happened several times until 'service trailer brake' light came on. no brakes, no way to press down pedal. gmc refuses to assume responsibility for repair. cost: $1311.16
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. while driving at a low speed or while idling, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to engage. the contact stated that the failure was also evident while driving in reverse at a low speed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the local dealer and the manufacturer were not notified. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v339000 (steering, service brakes, hydraulic). the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 55,000. *tt*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to pass state inspection due to master cylinder, vacuum pump, brake booster, and hose leakage. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 33,000.
When brakes are applied the pedal is hard and vehicle does not stop. it seems to happen when going slow for example in parking lots etc. i have read other articles where people are experiencing same thing at high speeds. it does not happen all the time, but it started 7/1/2018 and i've experienced this four times now. took to dealer this morning they refused to look at articles explaining what i've found.
Brake pedal becomes hard and non efective when attempting to park or at low idle speeds on numerous occasions nearly causing serious harm to bystanders and property. this is a major problem with gm trucks and do not know why a recall has not been issued to protect the public from serious injury.
Loss of power brakes when creeping and applying brakes several times in a short time. tested and changed vacuum pump.
When i first got the truck the brakes operated perfectly fine after about three days the brakes on the front of the truck would lock up while i was driving and would not release. after two sets of calipers two sets of brake pads a set of rotors a two weeks go by with the mechanic trying to figure out what is wrong with this truck. they then replace the brake master cylinder, there was no improvement. turns out to be the brake booster had failed along with the hydraulic abs control unit. there were no warning lights on whatsoever the whole entire time the brakes were locked up the abs light didn't come on until the brake booster was replaced indicating that the abs control unit was also bad. now i am experiencing a ticking coming from the engine. the ticking occurs at idle end as the throttle is being activated. however the local dealership has refused to give me any information as of why it could be making this ticking noise or is just unwilling to say anything .
While in motion the brake pedal goes hard and is difficult to stop. i believe this is the cause of a low speed incident i had earlier this year. the issue occurres mostly at slow speeds in stop and go traffic. if feels like the brake booster fails and the pedal is bottomed out. it happens frequesntly while hauling a trailer in reverse. very dangerous situation.
Brake failure due to bad vacuum pump
I was driving down i20 in dallas in rush hour traffic, the traffic was heavy but moving at 70 miles an hour. i saw brake lights in from of me, when i pressed the brake to slow down the brake pedal was hard, i could not press it with one foot and i could not slow down. i finally was able to slow down by putting both feet on the pedal with all my weight it felt like it was forever before i was able to slow down. i thought i was going to be unable to stop.i drove another 15 minutes going very slow and scared. parked my truck in the drive and had a tow truck pull it to the dealership closest to my house. my truck only has 58,000. i really was scared for my life if you have ever driven in rush hour dallas traffic you understand . i could have lost my life or be seriously injured. the dealership told me today they had not heard of this issue. the dealership said they doubt gmc can do anything about the problem. the service department said was a vacuum pump on the breaks. i looked on line and others have reported this same issue. i could have been killed. still shaking over the incident . i hope this problem is addressed before someone is killed
I bought this truck in dec.2017 sense march/ april of 2018 i have experienced at least 8 times maybe more and just last week. the brake pedal had lost it's power assist. this seems to happen in very close slow speed traffic or in parking lots when parking. the way i solve this problem is to put truck in neutral and increase rpm's or you 2 feet on the brake pedal ithe power assist will soon return, these situation could be a real problem at higher speeds. i have checked the vacuum booster for leaks, brake fluil and done a front and rear brake job. the week of nov. 18 i saw an article in the boston globe about this specific problem and under investigation. i contacted my local dealer central buick and gmc in norwood ma..on nov 26.2018 the service writer said he knew nothing about this problem or complaints nor the ongoing investigations. his thought was bring the truck in and we will check and repair at my expense. sadly i wish his response was different . thankyou d.s.m.
While driving in stop and go traffic speeds there have been a number of occasions that the brake pedal goes hard and the truck will not stop. i have noticed on other forums that this seems to be a common issue.
When i press on the brakes, it feels as though the master cylinder is gone and it is the manual type drum brakes that has air in the line. it takes everything i have to press them and pray it stops!! the vehicle is always in motion when detecting this problem and seems to occur more repeatedly if the brakes are pump quickly in succession before applying brakes or when the brakes are pressed for an extended amount of time then you release and repress it want stop. another issue is my lane id warning. when turned on at the button, it just beeps at me and shows service light. when i first took it in with the problem, the dealership called me and said all fixed, but it did it before i left the parking lot. they had my truck all day for the issue, put me out of a vehicle and then said they would need for extended time to repair but didn't know there was problem. how do you make that determination when you told me its repaired. i just turned it off and haven't used in 2 years.
Brakes loose boost at idle after towing trailer. i towed a heavy trailer and then dropped it in my yard. when i went to move my truck down my driveway and into my garage i had no brake boost unless i revved the engine.
While driving at slow speeds if you tap the brake pedal it won't depress and the truck will keep rolling. this happens when i'm trying to park usually. i was backing in my driveway and it didn't stop after taping the brake pedal 3 times. i hit the telephone pole with rear bumper which bent the body of the left rear fender enough to cause the tailgate to not open. my gmc dealer replaced the faulty booster pump for $1029.35 and i had to rent a car for 2 days.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. the contact stated that when the brake pedal was applied, the vehicle failed to respond. the contact had to apply force to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. laura buick gmc (903 n bluff rd, collinsville, il 62234, (618) 344-0121) diagnosed that the brake vacuum pump may need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact was uncertain if the failure was related to nhtsa campaign number: 14v339000 (steering, service brakes, hydraulic). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin and failure mileage were not available.
Low speed breaking pedal hard vehicle will not stop can hear clicking noise condition worst while in reverse almost caused 3 accidents contacted dealer they say they know of the problem and cost to fix is around $1000 if this is such a common issue like my dealer said why do i need to pay to have it fixed it's a safety issue that gm knows about. this issue has been on going for over a year with my truck.
Vehicle is shutting off at any given speed, ie. 35 mph in town or 70 mph on a highway with oncoming traffic. when vehicle shuts off, loss of all control of the vehicle takes place. no brakes, no steering, nothing until the vehicle randomly turns back on. this is not a consistent occurrence to know when it is going to happen or be prepared for it to happen. i watched my husband shoot across the road into the other lane and almost put the vehicle over a bank one night when it happened. this has been an issue since january 2018 for us, we have taken it to the dealer where it was purchased multiple times for them to tell us they can't duplicate the issue and nothing is coming up in their system for an error code. it has caused a major inconvenience for my family, as we don't dare put our children in the truck leaving the responsibility solely on one parent to transport the kids to and from daycare. i worry for the safety of my husband on a daily basis.
I was following my daughter who was exiting the gas station and pulling out onto route 149. as she pulled up to route 149 she stopped to check traffic. i was behind her in my 2015 gmc sierra 1500, going approx. 2 mph. when i hit the brakes, nothing happened. the truck kept moving forward and i hit the rear of my daughters car, cracking the rear bumper. no damage to the truck because i was only going a couple mph, luckily my daughter had her foot on the break of her car, otherwise i would have pushed her right into oncoming traffic. the fact that she had her foot on the brake is what stopped my truck. we both backed up and got out of the intersection, when backing up the brakes worked fine. there wasn't a spot to leave the truck so i had to drive 3 miles back to my house. the brakes worked perfectly after, no issues what so ever. it seemed like at the slow speed that brakes didn't have any boost (or pressure), the pedal was very very stiff, it felt like it was pushing back against me when i hit the rear of my daughters car. but driving home everything worked perfect. i'm bringing the truck in (approx. 72k miles) to have it looked at but i'm concerned the dealer will not know what to fix as the issue seems to be intermittent. this was a very dangerous intersection and i could have pushed my daughter into oncoming traffic and the result would have been much much worse. something seems to be seriously wrong with the brakes and when googling this issue, i found many similar issues/complaints regarding the brakes.
Takata recall when backing up brake pedal is not at its normal pressure seems to be all the way down so have to press brake harder to stop the truck when i shift to drive forward same thing applies. after truck has been off for some time parked then start to drive brakes seem to be working fine.
Brakes became hard to depress and engage while vehicle was moving. almost crashed vehicle. afraid to drive. brought to dealer. said it was bad brake booster. after doing some research, found out should replace vacume pump, master cylinder, hose line, etc., so i did. 44k miles, 3 year old truck, happened on /12/10/17 brought to dealer garber gmc in florida for $1300 repair on 12/11/2017. no warning signs when this happened. very dangerous when brakes fail while vehicle is in motion.
I was pulling into a parking spot at work (slow speed) and i could not stop the truck. i kept applying more and more pressure to the brake pedal and it did not stop the truck. the truck hit the curb and stopped, luckily there wasn't a another car as i would have hit it. it caught me a bit off guard as i was trying to figure out what just happened. i backed the truck up about 10 feet, brakes worked fine in reverse, and pulled forward back into the spot. again, the brakes did not work and i again i hit the curb. no damage to the truck, but brakes did not work. it felt like the brakes were pushed back against me. brake pedal never went to the floor, i pushed the pedal and there seemed to be more resistance than normal. it didn't matter how much i pushed, the truck kept moving forward. this happened with approximately 78,000 miles. i was late for a meeting so i went into work and later in the day i had a break so i checked on the truck. pulled out of the parking spot and back in and brakes worked both in reverse and in forward. so now what to do????????? at work i did a quick google search and saw this similar issue come up in a lot of the search responses- and decided to log it here. this is a huge issue and very dangerous if i was in a crowd or people or at an intersection and couldn't stop. i called gmc and they said they never heard of anything like this- they didn't seem to care, they said if i brought the truck in they would see if it happened again.
When brakes are applied the pedal is hard and vehicle does not stop. it seems to happen when going slow for example in parking lots etc. i have read other articles where people are experiencing same thing at high and low speeds. it does not happen all the time, but it started 11/2017 and i've experienced this four times now and the wife as well.called gm the other morning was told there was no recall for this issue per gm some vehicles were affected but not mine, explaining what i've found and was told to take the vehicle to dealer for diagnostic.asked if it would have to be the dealer cause they were expensive to do diagnostic. was told yes and it would have to be out of pocket.
We want to report a safety feature in 2015 gmc sierra 1500. we bought a vehicle brand new and it currently has about 40,000 miles on the odometer. on 11/4/2017 after we got off the interstate 10, the break from this truck stopped working, we had a difficult and dangerous time to make it stop, and was lucky to manage to get into a store's parking. we have to haul it to the local gmc on monday and found out the break pump was bad. this problem could cause a deadly accident if we were still in the freeway. we called gmc to report the problem and they said there is nothing they can do. this problem is serious and need to be addressed.
Out of no where, i had to use extreme pressure on the pedal to stop the truck. the brakes began to sound rough. i turned the truck on and off hoping that would fix the problem. it didn't, i took it into my gmc dealer to find out that the vacuum pump has failed for the brakes. i did my research online and noticed many people have had the same issue. i was surprised there isn't a recall on 2014-2016 gm vehicles. this is dangerous and i'd hate someone's brakes failing at high speed and someone gets hurt.
Vehicle loses brake pressure while moving at slower speeds. once coming to a stop, then doing slow speed stops and starts the pedal will become hard and requires great effort to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. issue started at about 38,000 miles just after factory 36,000 mile warranty. issue presents itself more often in reverse while backing in, especially if grade is sloped. have had multiple close calls in parking lot settings while trying to back in to a parking spot or inch forward. a friend had this same issue with his 2016 chevrolet silverado, which ended up being a $1,800 fix through the dealership. he was told that it was a vacuum issue with the brake pump and that a recall would probably be issued. i have been holding out on service in hopes of this recall being issued.
2015 gmc sierra - braking becomes very difficult at idle speed whether moving forward or reverse. brake pedal becomes very difficult to depress. vehicle will move a few feet until completely stopped even with forceful pressure on the brake pedal. appears to lose all vacuum/power braking ability.
Brake pedal does not depress easily at low speeds. extream effort is required to push brake pedal enough to get vehicle to stop.
At 47,000 miles. i noticed a slight vibration in the front end while braking on the highway. over the next 2 weeks the vibration became considerable worse. it felt as though the rotors became warped which i have experienced during vehicle testing at previous employments. i replaced the front brake rotors and brake pads. during removal of the old brakes, i quickly noticed that 1 of the 4 pads was completely corroded through the backing plate. brake pad contact area with the rotor was fine, but the backing plate had holes in it from the level of corrosion. other 3 brake pads were fine, very minor surface corrosion at worst. since replacing my brakes the vibration has never repeated.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard; however, the vehicle failed to immediately come to a complete stop. while the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle unintentionally accelerated. the contact mentioned that the vehicle was placed into neutral to keep the failure from occurring. the vehicle was taken to mckinney buick gmc (3950 s central expy, mckinney, tx 75069, (469) 804-2338) where the vacuum pump was replaced, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 110,000.
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. the contact stated that the brake pedal was difficult to depress. the contact had to apply extreme force to the brake pedal to ensure that the vehicle came to a complete stop. the vehicle was towed to a dealer (covert chevrolet buick gmc bastrop, 702 tx-71, bastrop, tx 78602, (512) 303-2311) for further inspection and diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v339000 (steering, service brakes, hydraulic). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v651000 (air bags, seat belts). the approximate failure mileage was 29,004. parts distribution disconnect.
I was in a parking lot (thankfully) when the brake pedal was hard to push, and the truck did not stop immediately. there is a technical service bulletin issues for this problem pit5405b.
Backing boat down boat ramp (not a steep ramp) in trailer mode, braking did not stop vehicle. pumped pedal several times, used lots of force on pedal. because of slow speed and increased effort, the vehicle did stop. pulled forward and repeated at slower reverse speed and same poor braking. dry conditions, brakes dry, did not put rear wheels in water. have not had a repeated event. dealer indicated that service bulletin pit5361b applies, but because of mileage it is not warranty. this should be a recall.
Brake failure while towing a 3500 pound boat. vacuum booster system failure. i was moving slowly through a parking lot pulling my boat, when i pushed the brakes the truck did not stop. the brake pedal bottomed out and the truck and trailer continued to move forward slowly
On 2/5/2017 while turning unto my street the steering wheel locked and i could not move my truck from hitting a block wall. i also tried breaking but the car did not stop in time to not hit the wall. i was driving slowly (20 mph) because i was in a neighborhood and me and my family were all wearing seatbelts so no one was seriously injured. the airbags did not deploy at all. and i also bent the steering wheel in half trying to move it. i am attaching a picture of the steering wheel itself and the vehicle is currently at caliber collisions for the repairs. i went to the gm dealer and they said they would run diagnostics after the truck comes out of the shop.
Brakes do not work when in reverse or at low speeds. problem was there the day i purchased the vehicle. a couple weeks after purchase i backed into vehicle in a parking lot. i was told it was "normal" after almost having a wreck i did some research. how is this not nationally advertised as a recall yet? this is a huge safety negligence on gmc's part. the vacuum pump is known to fail by every dealer i have called. also everyone i know who has the same model truck also lives with this problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 gmc sierra 1500. while driving at low speeds or when the gear selector was in reverse, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred periodically. the vehicle was taken to everett buick gmc (21115 i-30 frontage rd, bryant, ar 72022, (501) 303-4393) to be diagnosed, but no failure was found. the dealer stated that the brakes were "perfect". the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vin was not provided. the failure mileage was 45,000.
Having issues with hard brake pedal. it happened a few time when the truck was new but could never duplicate it. twice it almost caused an accident. i have since found a way to duplicate it. when backing a boat trailer down a ramp every time they become hard, i have to ride the emergency brake, but it only happens when the boat is on the trailer. i have researched this over the years but not till recently have i seen other reports of truck with this issue. i have not contacted the dealer yet but will in the next week or so when i can take off to go. i do not now date of first occurrence but i put a random date in 2015.
