Had the recall for the low maneuver turning issue performed at a dealership when i had my oil changed on august 15, 2017. less than a week later the issue occurred when turning into the driveway and dealership will not honor my complaint to fix it. the statement i hear is "we can't duplicate the problem" but i'm telling them it happened. either the procedure to rectify the recall isn't working or they didn't perform it correctly. i need help.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. on several occasions, while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and lost power. the contact stated that the steering wheel seized and excessive force was required to maneuver the vehicle. the contact stated that the stabilink and power steering assist warning indicators illuminated. also, while making left and right turns, the steering wheel jerked and the vehicle stalled. the contact had to jumpstart the vehicle when the failure occurred. the vehicle was taken to rivard buick gmc (located at 9740 e adamo drive sr60, tampa, fl 33619 (813) 498-2153) where it was diagnosed that the power steering module needed to be reprogrammed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided case number: 8-3174003373. the contact was informed that the complaint would be escalated and that he would hear back within two to three days. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v414000 (steering). the dealer (hertrich buick gmc of salisbury, 2016 n salisbury blvd, salisbury, md 21801, 410-202-8791) was notified of the recall and was unable to determine when the manufacturer would provide the solution to repair the recall. the manufacturer was notified. the contact had not experienced a failure.
While parking vehicle i tried to make a slight right turn, the steering wheel jerked out of my hand under extreme force and the vehicle shut off on its own. after the vehicle stopped i tried to turn right a few more times. every time i did this the steering wheel would turn itself in the opposite direction about a quarter turn and the dash lights would turn off like the computer was reseting. the vehicle would not start right away, but did after turning the key to the off position for a few seconds.
Rounding a corner at low speed and the a/c compressor locked up and stalled the engine. i lost steering and brakes nearly hit a pole. search for this issue and you will see that gm has a known issue on the 2014 a/c units that they are doing nothing about
It has been two weeks and no solution has been issued and meanwhile my vechile is stuck at dealers while i am stuck with paymnts and zero solution to fix my vechile and no idea how much longer it will be before it is repaired
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. the contact received an unknown manufacturer recall related to the eps assist. the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the dealer was contacted (buick gmc in beaverton, or) and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available.
My truck loses power steering when turning left and practically comes to a stop mid turn. it takes approx. 5 seconds to be able to continue through the turn. stabilitrak notifications constantly alert on the dash for traction control, steering assist, etc and when doing slow maneuvering the a/c, stereo, and steering assist shutdown for a split second. recall is open under n172085440 for 2 weeks now and i know other people experiencing these same safety steering issues waiting for the fix to be published for this recall. please expedite the recall fix asap!!
Power steering light and stabilitrack light coming on when coming to a slow stop. lights will not stay on long enough to throw a code to read. a/c, radio, dash all shuts down when these codes throw.
When i am making left turns my stabilitrak warning goes off and locks up my steering wheel and won't allow me to turn and jerks the wheel which has caused a dislocated thumb and jammed fingers, it also powers down my entire electrical system. i have had several close calls with some serious accidents. i have almost been t-boned several times due to it powering down and not being able to turn. i have called the gm dealership and they said there is nothing we can do about this and they are aware of the recall. it's going to be a hefty lawsuit on their hands when someone is seriously hurt or dies because their steering wheel locks up. early june is when i started noticing this issue and it has only been getting worse!
I was leaving a store parking lot and began a left turn when the steering wheel was wrenched out of my hands as it spun around causing my truck to veer sharply to the left and to hit another stationary vehicle. gmc service department said the steering was broken and proceeded to replace the steering module. i retained the old module as evidence the tie rod became disconnected causing the accident. no one was seriously injured although i has the skin on my hand and forearm rubbed off by the steering wheel.
Truck has 73,000 miles on it. while driving at approximately 20 mph i applied the brake and had the stabili track warning go off, as well as radio and fan shut off. as i was making a slight left turn the steering wheel jerked out of my hand and locked up, leaving me with absolutely no control of the vehicle in the middle of traffic. the steering wheel would release , jerk and lock repeatedly, it happened about 4 times while trying to regain control. at the same time while applying the brake i had virtually no brakes to stop the vehicle. looked for recalls and all i found were hundreds of similar complaints, but no solution or recalls. how is this not a recall, it's gross negligence... what if i was at highway speeds or towing my trailer at the time. gm and nhtsa need to address this issue immediately before lives are lost. as for me, i'm in the process of getting rid of a vehicle that i've had for 3 months because of this and will not let my children ride in the vehicle. it's an intermittent problem, i'm just hoping the next time it doesn't happen at 65mph. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled and the stabilitrak warning indicator illuminated. in addition, the steering wheel and brakes seized. the contact powered off the engine while in traffic. the vehicle was restarted and drove normally. the contact stated that the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to covert buick gmc (located at 11750 research blvd, austin, tx 78759, (512) 583-3411) where diagnostic testing was completed, but no failure code was found. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 103,000.
When i am driving at low speeds and i turn my steering wheel my wheel locks up and i am unable to turn by vehicle. when i am driving on the highway my display system goes in and out.
Got a steering stability indication while driving across a bumpy strip on the highway. later, i would get the indicator, and when i did a hard turn, i.e. 90 degrees, the engine would die. the dealership isolated the problem to a broken gear in the electric power assist, and replaced the negative power cable on the battery. the cost of the repair would have been about $3600.00, but gm paid about 75%. it was recommended that i replace the negative cable every 50,000 miles by one of the technicians. another problem occurred about a year ago concerning the vapor recovery system. i got a check engine warning, took it to the dealer and found that the whole system was completely coated with fine dust. they replaced the vapor collection canister and associated tubes and filters at a cost of about $800.00. gm picked up about 50%. i later changed the location of the vapor collection tube from the (very dusty) wheel well, to under the hood where it was protected from the dust. i don't believe either of these problems to be lack of preventive maintenance, because neither appear to be able to be checked or appear on regular maintenance. the vehicle turned off while making a turn at slow speeds, and the warning light came on at driving speeds. relocating the intake on the vapor recovery system appears to have cured or delayed the onset of the problem. (i also remove and blow out the filter and the intake tube at least once a year.)
On or about 4 april, 2017 i experienced an alarm while driving my 2014 gmc sierra. while traveling between conroe tx and plano tx, i received a warning steering stability. the alarm cleared so i checked my owners manual and it said to take it to a dealer if it didn't clear. i used onstar and had a diagnosis done on the truck. they reported no problems. the next day the truck shut down, in the middle of making a u turn. my daughter thought she had knocked it out of gear but couldn't get it to start until she turned it off and back on. the same thing happened again (this time to my wife) turning into a parking lot. she took it to a gmc dealer to have it checked out. they found a broken gear in the electronic power assist assembly. we heard that our vehicle had a recall # 17276, for problem with the steering. i then took it to the dealer where i bought the truck and had the computer updated to prevent the problem. i then ask for a reimbursement for having to have the steering module and negative battery cable replaced. i contend that, at the time, the cause of the steering problem causing the truck to die. when i ask a technician at mckinney if the recall was for the problem, he said: no that is just to change an error in the computer. back in april, the only thing they could do to possibly prevent the stalling was to look for something like a power problem. before i took the truck in i had no indication of power problems and i was never told how the negative battery cable went bad, only that it happens and the truck was out of the 36 mo warranty. i checked on the internet to see if anyone else was having the problem and what the solution to it was? i saw several people were having the problem, but nobody knew what exactly caused it. the consumer requested to be fully reimbursed for the repairs made referencing the recall #17276. *js
Driving at low speeds in rush hour traffic and "degraded steering" warning with chime sounded. cleared itself and then chimed again with same warning about three minutes later. this was followed by stabilitrack warning and red brake warning. steering was somewhat harder to turn but was still being assisted. there didn't appear to be any degradation to braking. maybe the anti-lock system? the a/c then turned off and the radio volume went silent. the stabilitrack switch, a/c controls and radio controls were all ineffective. i noticed the amp gauge was below 12 as it seemed as if the truck electrical system was underpowered. i drove ten miles home and all systems reset by turning truck off and starting it up again. this is first time this has happened. truck has 66k miles on it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving approximately 45 mph, the steering wheel locked and the stabilitrack warning indicator illuminated. the contact had to stop in the middle of the road. the vehicle was turned off and restarted normally. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving 5 mph, the steering wheel began to steer back and forth independently without warning. the contact stated that the engine stalled while the failure was occurring. the vehicle was able to restart, but the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
Written by my wife on 11/04/16: on 11/02/16 at approximately 2:45 pm i was driving slowly through a parking lot trying to find a space. i found a space and as i turned my wheel to the left it locked up roughly, jerking the steering wheel out of my hands as i pulled into the spot. after the steering wheel locked up, jerking very abruptly, the power surged and the truck died. this is probably the 30th time this has happened to me. this particular time there was no error message displayed this time. usually i get a message which pops up on the instrument cluster forward of the steering wheel that says 'service stabiltrac' or 'action required, steering assist is reduced, drive with care.' it seems there is a steering malfunction because this issue usually occurs while making a turn but the truck has had this same error message while driving straight on the highway. i am unsure of what the problem is but i do know it is dangerous to drive this vehicle until the problem is resolved. road conditions/weather conditions also play no part in when this malfunction takes place. other pertinent information regarding this issue is that the headlights do flicker from time to time. we have been dealing with this issue since august of this year and have still not found a resolution. landmark chevrolet in taylorville, il has had our vehicle in the shop 4 times on this issue alone and put over 200 miles on our vehicle with no resolution. friendly chevrolet in springfield il had our truck for nearly 3 weeks and put over 70 miles on the vehicle...no resolution. here are a couple videos we recorded and uploaded to youtube documenting the issue. taken on september 18th, 2016: taken on september 19th, 2016: [xxx] parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' pm
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving 25 mph and making a left or right turn, the vehicle jerked violently and caused the steering wheel to become erratic. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 67,800.
Power steering failed intermittently, two different ocassions. once was while turning left at a low speed. the steering wheel became extremely stiff and started vibrating when i tried to turn the wheel. the power steering came back approximately 10 minutes later. after driving fine for about 5 minutes, the steering failure happened again, this time with a "service power steering" message on the dash display. called the dealer and they will fix, but quite frustrating for a vehicle with a little over 30,000 miles that i have had for less than two months.
When making a full turn to the left with my 2014 gmc sierra there is a loud thumping noise that you can also feel in the steering wheel. the problem started periodically and i had a dealership diagnosis. they heard the noise and found no problems. the noise has become more consistent and a third party mechanic believes it to be a steering rack failure. the vehicle can be stationary or moving at parking lot speeds to hear the thump.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving 40 mph, the steering seized without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 108,000.
Steering wheel locked, as if it were in park, while i was driving. seat belt light and alarm activated (i was wearing seat belt) and wrench icon appeared on instrument display. after a few seconds the lock disengaged and the icon disappeared and i was able to turn. i did some online research and apparently this problem has occurred to others. i do not want my or my family's safety jeopardized by this design flaw (the steering lock can engage while the vehicle is in gear and in motion!!!) so i am having my mechanic disable the lock.
Steering wheel springs/snaps (hard) in the opposite direction that the wheel is being turned and steering control is lost. when this does not shut the engine off, the only way to regain steering control is to restart the vehicle. when this does cause the engine to shut off the steering is restored with the restart. the stabili trak indicator appears just for an instant on the dic when this happens. note: this is not the 'service stabili trak' indicator but more like stabili trak has been activated indicator. this happened first in reverse while backing into a parking spot. (three times in reverse). then it started happening in drive, twice while pulling out from a stop sign and once while doing 15-20 mph turning onto a side street. the 15-20 mph turning instance caused the engine to shut off, steering became non existent for an instant and then very very heavy. i crossed the other lane of traffic and almost landed in the ditch. the truck has been at the dealership twice for a total of 14 days, both times 'cannot duplicate' was the result. no codes are being generated from these instances. cause is unknown. loose voltage or high resistance to grounds maybe. this has happened in hot and cold weather, running ac or heater or neither. there is no pattern. please help.
The problem started while backing a trailer and turning. the stabiltrack light came on and the steering wheel jerked out of my hand. it happened a few more times and then the truck died. later while driving the stabilitrack light would flash on and the dic would go black. the a.c. would also go out and come back on. it would also do this when turning on the signal light or stepping on the brake pedal. i was in a parking lot today driving slowly and the st message came then the dic went black again. when i tried to turn the wheel it started jerking back and pulled out of my hand. it seems that shutting the truck off and restarting solves the problem for a day or two. this is a very unsafe issue and i have seen and read many complaints. i have been a huge fan of gm and all i have ever owned were gm vehicles, but this issue is making me wonder if i should have bought a ford instead. it seems that gm is not worried about recalling because of this safety issue, which there are many complaining of the same thing, and my warranty is about to run out.
This issue is related to stabilitrak, the onboard computing system. when on the interstate, loss of power can occur. usually at high speeds, the power just 'flickers' on and off, some times repeatedly. the breaking mechanism seems to be somewhat affected by this. at slower speeds, the same problem can occur, but the steering wheel locks up and forces my truck to turn hard to the left. each time the problem occurs, "stabilitrak error" and "loss of traction control" or something along the lines of "loss of power, danger" will appear -- although, it is usually just something relating to "stabilitrak". i've nearly been in an accident ~3 times. it's no question a danger to the driver and to pedestrians. gm has been getting sued like crazy, and it's pretty clear they are avoiding this issue because of this.
The steering rack developed a loud clunking noise that could be felt in the steering wheel when turned about 2/3 of the way to the left. the problem happens almost every time the wheel is turned. the truck could be parked or moving. after a week the dealer finally diagnosed the problem as having a bad steering rack. the truck has 66000 miles on it and shouldn't have this issue in its current condition and mileage. the repair is not covered under my powertrain warranty and the total bill is at $2700 which is complete unacceptable for a truck that was purchased brand new truck that i paid $42,000 for less than two years ago.
The steering rack developed a loud clunk that you could feel in the steering wheel and head outside when turned about 2/3 of the way to the left. the problem would happen almost every time the wheel was turned. the truck could be standing still or moving. i brought it to the dealer where they diagnosed it as having a bad steering rack. the truck has 43000 miles on it and it was definitely a safety issue. i read a little online about the problem and there is several people who have had the same issue. someone stated that the new ones are built different than the 2014 and possibly 2015 model years. if the new ones are updated and it is a known problem it would be nice if the manufacturer would fix them before steering racks start failing.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving various speeds, the steering seized and the stabilitrak warning indicator illuminated. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be duplicated. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 35,000 the vin was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving 40 mph, another vehicle crashed head on into the contact's vehicle. the air bags failed to deploy. a police report was filed. the contact sustained severe whiplash and a concussion, which required medical attention. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and sent an engineer to inspect the vehicle. shortly after, while driving at an unknown speed, the stabilitrac warning light illuminated and the power steering malfunctioned. the steering wheel jerked violently. the vehicle was towed back to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that all the steering electronic sensors needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 19,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 mph, the steering wheel seized and veered independently. in addition, several unknown warning indicators illuminated. the contact was able to regain control after depressing the brake pedal. the failure recurred and the stability trac, and the service trailer brake warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that a excessive voltage drop resulted in a loss of power with the manual trailer brake, the bcm, electronic bcm, ecm, steering. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 27,416.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while the vehicle was operated, the service power steering warning indicator illuminated and the power steering failed. the failure was intermittent. the dealer could not replicate the failure. a year earlier, the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering motor needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 14v719000 (steering) as a possible solution; however, the vin was not included. the failure mileage was approximately 25,000.
truck vibrated new with 8 miles when we first drove it home. pinpointed specific speeds and returned 9+ times to dealership over 7 months. tires (twice), shocks and rear end were all replaced but did not stop vibration. 5 months from purchase we were followed by a neighbor and they saw my truck "dog tracking" (traveling sideways down the road). dealer noted but would not follow at distance and speed required to witness the "dog tracking". dealer told me they were clueless and come get the truck. local auto repair shop followed me and said there is definitely a problem. front center of wheel to back center of wheel measures 1/2 inch less on driver side than passenger side but dealer says that is not a good measurement because their computer says everything is fine. this truck vibrates and "dog tracks" and dealership refuses to make proper offer and has given up on repair attempts. i am presently seeking help from a different dealer.
The part broke in half at low speed while i was driving in a construction area (my own driveway being installed) i hit something and the metal casing of the axle where it attaches to the front diff. broke in half. i am 60 years old my wife was in the truck i was going so slow the speedometer was on 0. the dealer said the part was cracked by the impact. this is supposed to be a heavy duty 4x4 p/u, if i was going at 40 mph off road what would have broke and what would have been the result? i think the metal of the casing was flawed and i am afraid to keep the truck. the dealer said this isn't a warranty issue i had to put a claim into my ins. this is not only a concern for safety but for finances as well. i paid $44,000. cash for this truck, it is the sierra slt not only a 4x4 but it has 20" rims for added height. this was not hit hard enough to crack a steel casing. the truck is at a gmc/buick dealer in mount dora fl. they said it might take awhile to find the parts to fix it. i do not think gmc makes cheap trucks or dangerous trucks but i think after this gets fixed i will be looking into trading it. *tr
