Owned truck for one year, bought used at dealership. within 6 months, the service stablilitrack message popped up while on highway and power steering diminished. cruise control would turn off when using the blinkers to change lanes. put a new battery in and things worked well until yesterday when on the highway and the service stabilitrack message came back again when i used my turn signal to change lanes while using the cruise control. the cruise control also turned itself off. went to park and the truck shut down for one second and seemed to reboot. it drove fine after that but scared the [xxx] out of me. luckily no one was around. the headlights have also dimmed when pushing the brake pedal. i see there was a recall but i don't know if this truck had it fixed at that time or not. the website tells me there is only one open recall but for the brake system and this seems to be an electrical problem not brakes. i am contacting the dealership but i doubt they will have an answer and will want to charge me for something that appears, according to this site and others, to be a major issue for this vehicle model. *dl parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
When truck is at low rpm (usually turning into parking spot slowly) truck will shut off. its pulling to much power from cpu or alternator and killing truck. this is a safety issue.
During normal driving in town and on highway, stabillitrak deactivates, power steering assist deactivates and the steering becomes very difficult, airbags deactivate, turn signals become inoperable, radio shuts off, air conditioning shuts off. this happens while at speed on the highway and at slow speeds. it is especially dangerous when making slow turns as the power steering gives out and the truck instantly becomes nearly uncontrollable (uncontrollable for my wife) in the middle of the turn. i have taken the truck to the dealership and they said nothing is wrong and the best they could do was perform a service bulletin. issue was not corrected. i found that there was a new bulletin that had a fix for the g218 ground. i cut back the sound deadening from the ground, yet that did not fix the issue either. the truck has done this dozens of times and is incredibly unsafe to drive. how can losing steering, airbags, stability control, turn signals, etc. not be a safety concern?
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. the contact entered the vehicle and noticed smoke coming from the center console and heard an abnormal noise. the contact poured water onto the center console to extinguish the fire. the contact stated that the center and top consoles and front passenger seat were melted. there were no warning indicators illuminated. police and fire reports were not filed. the vehicle was taken to autonation buick gmc west sahara (located at 6400 w sahara ave, las vegas, nv 89146, (702) 545-6797), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 90,850.
Slowing down to park on a street and lost steering and lights flickering, i just had recall reprogrammed &serviced 60 days ago, driver assist service lights also on and parking.i nearly crashed twice so far i need my vehicle for transportation and would like help with this immediately ,for it is a pricey luxurious vehicle.
The engine shuts off and it looses all power randomly when turning , it is noow started to shut off in traffic when lightly tapping the brakes..
Driving vehicle at a low speed into a parking lot, when suddenly and without warning, it completely shut off. no power whatsoever, unable to put on hazard lights. disconnected battery neutral and hot for about 10-15 min. reconnected and it started back up. there was a dashboard message to roll driving window up and down. this has happened in the past, but only when starting, never while in drive and in forward motion! in the past i had it diagnosed for the no crank no start and for $400 i updated the bcm. typically, with no crank no start, i would disconnect battery neutral for 10 minutes, reconnect and start up slowly, ie: turn ignition to on, wait 1 min then crank it to start. i have accepted the occasional no crank no start, but the idea that this happened in drive is unacceptable and incredibly dangerous!
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving approximately 65 mph, the service stabilitrac warning indicator illuminated, the door locks activated independently, and the power steering failed. additionally, the vehicle independently turned off and on within a few seconds. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 88,124.
I've always liked your gmc trucks but mostly been a ford owner so this december i bought a 2014 gmc sierra 1500 with 98,000 miles... really love the truck but then start by having problems.. first my passenger window wouldn't roll down all the way ..got that fixed..then my rear drivers door lock don't work..and the big one my ac condenser has a leak ($1500 fix)which supposedly is a common problem with this vehicle..which i'm just so dissatisfied..i would really appreciated to have these problems fix for free!!! for i am regretting going gmc.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while the contact's wife was making a left turn at a low rate of speed, the vehicle shut off in the middle of an intersection without warning. after multiple attempts to restart the vehicle, the contact had to disconnect the battery ground cable and reconnect it for the vehicle to restart. the contact took the vehicle to don mealey chevrolet (17185 fl-50, clermont, fl 34711) where they were able to duplicate the failure and recommended that the battery ground cable be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 105,000.
All happened same day. was 8 hours from home and pulling into parking spot and the brakes went to the floor 3 times. has not occurred since. but when that happened the air started blowing warm and the service driver assist came on briefly. still air is blowing warm and the service driver assist comes on. have never had a check engine light come on. i am having it checked out this week.
My truck lost all electrical power when i was at a stop light,, i was in drive but was at a stop light , it happened a second time after i shut it off came back and turned the key and there was no power i waited for 5 minutes and al of sudden electrical turned on
Takata recall driving truck down interstate and it just cutoff no steering no breaks all power shuts off. i wait till truck is stooped and try wigging key and make sure gearshift is in right position. after a few min lights come on the dash and the truck will start back up. it says in the notification area in dash let driver side window down and up again. this has happen twice and both times i was on a interstate almost hit by cars behind me. i was driving about 65 mph going straight most time it would do this if i change lanes.
I was driving on the interstate and a message stating "service stabilitrack" message appears simultaneously with the check engine light and service traction control, the car loses the ability to accelerate and maintain speed. i kept driving because there was no safe place to stop, and after a few miles the door locks unlocked then locked, the info screen flashed and then the engine revved and appeared to drive normally. several miles later it happened again, over and over. when i reached my nieghborhood the car completely powered off.
My 2014 gmc sierra shuts off while driving on the interstate with my family. in some cases all electrical blinks and it continues to drive while temporarily losing power steering and other features and other times turning off completely until coming to a stop. the dealership wants ~$400 to do diagnostics on a g218 bolt that they were told by gmc that it is related to. this issue came from the factory this way. while not wanting to pay that for the diagnostic and researching myself, i found 100s of videos online similar to the one below which shows this issue happening to owners of the gmc trucks. when i spoke with gmc customer care about this, they told me that there were no recalls on the issue. there are going to be truck owners that lose their life along with any passengers if this issue is not taken care. i am very scare for our safety and the safety of countless others like the link below have posted about this known issue. https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/198500-2014-and-up-guys-with-funky-electrical-issues/
Takata recall, the automatic locks keeps locking and unlocking on their own, whether it's parked or driving. takata recall, the transmission shutters and rough shifting when slowing down or taking off, however the worst seems to be when slowing down
The truck will completely turn off, loss of electrical, power steering, braking - everything. first time was on highway30mph in traffic 2nd time highway going 45-50 in traffic & today in parking lot, turning in to droppoff lane an childs school. no stearing and hit the curb.
22014 sierra 1500 4x4 has total loss of power at low speeds including power steering, brakes, dashboard and all other electrical items. 6th event of this nature. most recent was on a downtown street in brighton mi. trying to make a left turn and the power steering failed and the truck stalled. this is dangerous because it almost caused an accident. after being able to restart the truck we parked in a parking lot and once again a full power failure. it was restarted after 5-10 minutes but we need help with this issue. and so do a lot of other truck owners from the compaints we have read. we have had this truck in for the stability track recall. the day after they serviced the recall the truck started the electrical issues. we took it back to feldman chevrolet but they just said to watch it. we are taking it back tomorrow. august 14, 2018.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. the contact heard a loud clicking noise coming from the dashboard near the steering wheel. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact mentioned that the steering was not affected by the failure. the vehicle was taken to chevrolet buick gmc of murfreesboro (960 john r rice blvd, murfreesboro, tn 37129, (615) 645-1075) where it was diagnosed that the voltage module internal relay was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was currently being repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty. gmc provided case number: 8-4432906997, but no further assistance was offered. the failure mileage was approximately 29,000. *ln consumer stated 3 emails sent and 4 calls were made. defective parts were replaced.*jb *bf*jb
Stalbility control system suddenly went out when braking on dry surface. vehicle engine was disabled causing temporary loss of control. the latest occurrence happened while traveling at listed speeds on interstate 75. i have safety oncerns.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. the contact stated that the electronic power steering failed, which caused the steering wheel to jerk violently to the left when turning right. the dealer (wiers chevrolet cadillac gmc, 416 s halleck st, de motte, in 46310, (219) 987-5555) indicated that a software update would not provide a permanent remedy; therefore, the manufacturer approved the replacement of the electronic power steering assist. in addition, the vehicle failed to start and stalled several times without warning. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 56,000.
While tapping the brakes, the vehicle's headlights will dim. occasionally, while tapping the brakes, the entire dashboard (including the touchscreen) turn off and restart. on 6/18/18, while travelling on a highway at 40 miles an hour and approaching a red light, i applied the brakes and the entire car shut down, including the power steering, power brakes, and engine. i had to place the car into neutral and turn it back on in order to brake in time.
On making a turn at low speed, my engine has cut out completely. i had full loss of acceleration, power steering ,ac, radio. i put the truck in neutral and restart the engine to get to safety. this has occurred 3 times in the last 20 days.twice in city traffic, once on the highway, turning off for gas. the "service steering assist" light appeared. i took the truck for a full diagnostic at a local electric repair shop, for $170.00. the tech found nothing after hooking my truck to his computer. the day i retrieved my truck from the electrical shop, i stopped in walmart for groceries. my key fob would not lock or unlock my doors. i manually unlocked the truck to determine that the truck would not start at all. no panel/ interior lights, no response in ignition,no automatic unlocking, the truck was completely dead. roadside service came to tow it, and the truck was jumpstarted from his battery pack. the key fob began to work, unlocking, etc. i towed the truck home. i have vin checked my truck and there are none but i believe my vehicular failure refers to gm part 573 safety recall 17v-414 regarding the loss of eps. a secondary recall which may apply is gm# 14v26000 re steering linkages, tie rod assembly.as the "steer assist' alert was what i saw. i have the work invoice from the electrical shop, if needed.
While driving my vehicle turns off, stability control comes on and offf on the dic also the drive assist goes off this is very dangerous then is when it looses power
While tapping the brakes, the vehicle's headlights will dim occasionally. 2 times now while tapping the brakes, the entire dashboard (including the touchscreen) turn off and restart. the first time was travelling on a highway and the second time was on my driveway, i applied the brakes and the entire car shut down, including the power steering, power brakes, and engine. that time i rolled out of my driveway and into the road. i was lucky no one was coming
I temporarily had no control over the vehicle causing me to have an accident. while driving down a residential street approaching a stop sign intersection i merged into the center of st to pass a trashcan and in the process of returning to my correct position on the road i suddenly had no steering. panicking from the loss i pressed my brakes an attempt to bring vehicle to a stop but was unsuccessful because the tires began a slide once noticing the traction loss i proceeded to release brakes and reapply in hopes of gaining traction the brief relief from brakes caused the vehicle to regain traction and while i still have no control over steering, the vehicle jerks towards the right side of the road and the brakes being reapplied the vehicle continues to slide off pavement making contact with stop sign and telephone pole.
During driving, the stability sensors would go off and show up stating stability turned off, or power steering turned off. the voltage on vehicle would suddenly drop from 15 to 9 and then back up. this will usually turn off the interior lights and electronics. i have discussed this with other 2014 sierra and silverado owners and they all advised this was occuring on their vehicles. there is a ground wire that was not properly installed under the dash which causes high resistance material to cause electrical issues. during one of my drives to work going 60 mph, the electrical components shut off and caused the engine to stop running. i was able to pull over while coasting on no power and restart the vehicle and it would continue to go. there have been times where the steering wheel would jerk while stationary as well. after many forum discussion this all related back to the ground wire not being properly installed by the manufacturer.
Several times while driving and making turns the vehicle completely died and all electronics went black. this caused a complete loss of steering and control while turning across traffic. the steering wheel would shake and jerk in the opposite direction as well. once i came to a stop i would have to put it back in park and restart. i am very lucky that that there was no cross traffic in these moments, as this could have led to a major accident. the really frustrating part is that after i took it to the dealer they diagnosed and stated that it was a battery cable of some sort that was melting over the exhaust. this was published as a known problem within the company. however, not a recall or warranty (47,000 miles). how can a known design problem on a relatively new vehicle that causes a complete loss of control while driving not be a recall or safety violation of some sort? i hope this does not fall on deaf ears. thank you
The first time i was driving down the highway and i hit the brakes and the dic said service stabilitrak and a few other things and i lost control of steering and my cruise wouldn't work for a minute the second time i was driving down the road and i gases on it and the whole truck shutoff and back on but i lost control of the steering again then i turned in my driveway and lost all steering and all power and the truck died i had to turn the key 2 or 3 times and if finally started it lost all power it reset my clock and everything on my radio and dic
2014 gmc sierra currently with 45,000 miles. vehicle spent 40+ days at dealership in 2016 for vibration while driving between 69-72 mph they could not fix during 6 different service visits. it was under 3 year/36k mile warranty at the time. began at 22,000 miles. in nov. 2017 vehicle began losing power steering at speeds under 3 mph, especially in reverse. also service stabilitrak light has come on randomly at low speeds. problem was intermittent but is now becoming an almost daily occurrance. afraid this will lead to an accident. several close calls already. radio has also turned off on its on about 5 times in the last 60 days. it will not turn back on until vehicle is re-started. related or unrelated, while driving at night and applying brake pedal i notice a 1/2 second dimming of headlights and dash lights before they return to normal brightness. battery and alternator tested fine by dealership. dealership says vehicle vin is not subject to any recalls. dealership wants me to replace power steering gear for $2,500 which they "think" might fix the problem. don't want to spend $2,500 without certainty it is the problem.
For the past few weeks i have had a power problem on my truck. i have got in the truck and nothing was on and engine wouldn't crank. i would get out of my truck and wiggle the negative line on the battery and the truck would regain power. i cleaned off all corrosion (not anything significant)that was on the connecter. yesterday as i was taking a turn into my neighborhood the truck lost all power. i was able to cost into a safe spot on the side of the road. i then poped the hood and opened the door. when i opened the door the power came back on. i closed the door started the truck and headed to my house. i am having my truck towed to the nearest dealer. if this had happened to me on the highway or a main road it could have been catastrophic. i have doon some research and found a number of videos and forums on this subject and it seems to be on gm trucks from 2014-2017. i am not a mechanic, but i work in it and am very good at reasearch and troubleshooting issues. my instinct is telling me it is the negative connection to the battery.
When i turn the ignition to start the vehicle, it acts as if the battery is drained. then there's a message that pops up briefly stating "stabilitrak". i'm concerned this is about to get much worse. the vehicle was stationary at the time of the message.
In the past 4 months, beginning at about 52k miles, i started receiving messages on my truck that said "stability control" was out and it locks the front left wheel, losing all steering, the radio and then the truck goes completely dead. the ac goes on/off and the headlights flicker. this is always at low speeds between 5-10 mph and most commonly when making a turn. i had the battery replaced at the dealership and now they're telling me i need a negative battery cable replacement?
Truck has stopped on random occasions since purchased in july 2017. been to two different dealers who have yet to diagnose issue. simply loss of steering and electrical power. each time it goes to dealer ,they cannot replicate error. could be related to recall n172085440 but not sure at this point. have a video of last instance of issue on august 5, 2017 but unable to load.
First instance: (this issue happened three times in one day before being able to be repaired) without warning the vehicle lost all power and the motor died while traveling at approx. 35mph for several seconds. when it powered back up everything was reset as if the battery had been disconnected. the dealership found a "loose ground wire" underneath the dashboard and attributed the occurrence to this. second occurrence: (less than a month later and happened twice within a few minutes) while travelling on the expressway at approx. 70mph and again without warning the vehicle lost all power and the motor died for several seconds. when it powered back up everything was reset as if the battery had been disconnected. this happened again while exiting the highway just moments later at a more moderate speed, again with zero warning. dealership now states the problem is with the positive battery terminal wire & harness.
My truck loses power steering when turning left and practically comes to a stop mid turn. it takes approx. 5 seconds to be able to continue through the turn. stabilitrak notifications constantly alert on the dash for traction control, steering assist, etc and when doing slow maneuvering the a/c, stereo, and steering assist shutdown for a split second. recall is open under n172085440 for 2 weeks now and i know other people experiencing these same safety steering issues waiting for the fix to be published for this recall. please expedite the recall fix asap!!
Power steering light and stabilitrack light coming on when coming to a slow stop. lights will not stay on long enough to throw a code to read. a/c, radio, dash all shuts down when these codes throw.
Turning at slow speeds the engine, and electronic shut of and on jerking the steering wheel out of my hands very erraticly and finally shuts off in the road. in a few minutes it will fire back up. i'm scared to dtive it! its not safe for anyone!
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving approximately 25 mph, the stabilitrak and anti-theft warning indicators illuminated and the power seized. the vehicle restarted independently; however, the failure recurred several times. the contact notified sellers gmc (located at 38000 grand river ave, farmington hills, michigan) where an appointment was scheduled. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
I am recieving stabilatrac , abs, powersteering, errors. my wipers will only work if i hit my brakes. the cruise control doesn't work anymore.
Truck has 73,000 miles on it. while driving at approximately 20 mph i applied the brake and had the stabili track warning go off, as well as radio and fan shut off. as i was making a slight left turn the steering wheel jerked out of my hand and locked up, leaving me with absolutely no control of the vehicle in the middle of traffic. the steering wheel would release , jerk and lock repeatedly, it happened about 4 times while trying to regain control. at the same time while applying the brake i had virtually no brakes to stop the vehicle. looked for recalls and all i found were hundreds of similar complaints, but no solution or recalls. how is this not a recall, it's gross negligence... what if i was at highway speeds or towing my trailer at the time. gm and nhtsa need to address this issue immediately before lives are lost. as for me, i'm in the process of getting rid of a vehicle that i've had for 3 months because of this and will not let my children ride in the vehicle. it's an intermittent problem, i'm just hoping the next time it doesn't happen at 65mph. *tr
When i am driving at low speeds and i turn my steering wheel my wheel locks up and i am unable to turn by vehicle. when i am driving on the highway my display system goes in and out.
Got a steering stability indication while driving across a bumpy strip on the highway. later, i would get the indicator, and when i did a hard turn, i.e. 90 degrees, the engine would die. the dealership isolated the problem to a broken gear in the electric power assist, and replaced the negative power cable on the battery. the cost of the repair would have been about $3600.00, but gm paid about 75%. it was recommended that i replace the negative cable every 50,000 miles by one of the technicians. another problem occurred about a year ago concerning the vapor recovery system. i got a check engine warning, took it to the dealer and found that the whole system was completely coated with fine dust. they replaced the vapor collection canister and associated tubes and filters at a cost of about $800.00. gm picked up about 50%. i later changed the location of the vapor collection tube from the (very dusty) wheel well, to under the hood where it was protected from the dust. i don't believe either of these problems to be lack of preventive maintenance, because neither appear to be able to be checked or appear on regular maintenance. the vehicle turned off while making a turn at slow speeds, and the warning light came on at driving speeds. relocating the intake on the vapor recovery system appears to have cured or delayed the onset of the problem. (i also remove and blow out the filter and the intake tube at least once a year.)
Driving at low speeds in rush hour traffic and "degraded steering" warning with chime sounded. cleared itself and then chimed again with same warning about three minutes later. this was followed by stabilitrack warning and red brake warning. steering was somewhat harder to turn but was still being assisted. there didn't appear to be any degradation to braking. maybe the anti-lock system? the a/c then turned off and the radio volume went silent. the stabilitrack switch, a/c controls and radio controls were all ineffective. i noticed the amp gauge was below 12 as it seemed as if the truck electrical system was underpowered. i drove ten miles home and all systems reset by turning truck off and starting it up again. this is first time this has happened. truck has 66k miles on it.
Drivers side door actuator is going out which makes it to where you have to pull on the handle twice in order to exit the vehicle and to unlock the vehicle.
When turning the truck shuts off and the instrument panel and radio flickers off and on and the vehicle dies. then says the stabilitrack comes on. also did it when trying to pass a truck completely shut the vehicle off heard the tires sceech.the everything flicked and same thing with the stabillatrak.
I have a 2014 gmc sierra, i started my truck to warm it up. i went inside and after a few minutes i went outside and my truck was engulfed in flames. luckily i was not parked in the garage and nobody was in my truck. it was parked in my driveway at the time. i am unknown...however there is recall for electrical/computer problem for my 2014 sierra but my truck has not been part of this recall. my truck is totaled!
Written by my wife on 11/04/16: on 11/02/16 at approximately 2:45 pm i was driving slowly through a parking lot trying to find a space. i found a space and as i turned my wheel to the left it locked up roughly, jerking the steering wheel out of my hands as i pulled into the spot. after the steering wheel locked up, jerking very abruptly, the power surged and the truck died. this is probably the 30th time this has happened to me. this particular time there was no error message displayed this time. usually i get a message which pops up on the instrument cluster forward of the steering wheel that says 'service stabiltrac' or 'action required, steering assist is reduced, drive with care.' it seems there is a steering malfunction because this issue usually occurs while making a turn but the truck has had this same error message while driving straight on the highway. i am unsure of what the problem is but i do know it is dangerous to drive this vehicle until the problem is resolved. road conditions/weather conditions also play no part in when this malfunction takes place. other pertinent information regarding this issue is that the headlights do flicker from time to time. we have been dealing with this issue since august of this year and have still not found a resolution. landmark chevrolet in taylorville, il has had our vehicle in the shop 4 times on this issue alone and put over 200 miles on our vehicle with no resolution. friendly chevrolet in springfield il had our truck for nearly 3 weeks and put over 70 miles on the vehicle...no resolution. here are a couple videos we recorded and uploaded to youtube documenting the issue. taken on september 18th, 2016: taken on september 19th, 2016: [xxx] parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' pm
This issue is related to stabilitrak, the onboard computing system. when on the interstate, loss of power can occur. usually at high speeds, the power just 'flickers' on and off, some times repeatedly. the breaking mechanism seems to be somewhat affected by this. at slower speeds, the same problem can occur, but the steering wheel locks up and forces my truck to turn hard to the left. each time the problem occurs, "stabilitrak error" and "loss of traction control" or something along the lines of "loss of power, danger" will appear -- although, it is usually just something relating to "stabilitrak". i've nearly been in an accident ~3 times. it's no question a danger to the driver and to pedestrians. gm has been getting sued like crazy, and it's pretty clear they are avoiding this issue because of this.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving 10 mph, the steering wheel seized and the vehicle lost electrical power and stalled. in addition, the "reduction power steering control", "engine power reduction", and "hood ajar" indicators displayed. when the contact attempted to turn the vehicle back on, the vehicle initially failed to start and the contact heard a clicking sound. the negative battery terminals also became extremely hot. the vehicle was taken to mark allen buick gmc (6300 new sapulpa rd, tulsa, ok 74131) where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to mark allen buick where the dealer stated that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure recurred several more times. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v640000 (electrical system). the approximate failure mileage was 38,000.
