Problems with 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

On average, the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL and its various aspects after 64 192 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL problems on 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

During normal driving in town and on highway, stabillitrak deactivates, power steering assist deactivates and the steering becomes very difficult, airbags deactivate, turn signals become inoperable, radio shuts off, air conditioning shuts off. this happens while at speed on the highway and at slow speeds. it is especially dangerous when making slow turns as the power steering gives out and the truck instantly becomes nearly uncontrollable (uncontrollable for my wife) in the middle of the turn. i have taken the truck to the dealership and they said nothing is wrong and the best they could do was perform a service bulletin. issue was not corrected. i found that there was a new bulletin that had a fix for the g218 ground. i cut back the sound deadening from the ground, yet that did not fix the issue either. the truck has done this dozens of times and is incredibly unsafe to drive. how can losing steering, airbags, stability control, turn signals, etc. not be a safety concern?

While driving and making a low speed turn the power steering fails and the vehicle shuts off and all doors are locked no power at all for about 40 seconds. then it comes back and a code comes up to roll drivers side window down and than up again and it resets this has happened 5 times in the last three weeks 3 times on the street and 2 times while turning into shopping malls just purchased vehicle a bout a year ago the dealership wants 100 dollars just to look at it its a gmc sierra 1500 2014 please help i have read this is a problem afraid to drive vehicle for fear of getting into an accident because you can not access the hazard lights .

**beware** i own a 2014 gmc sierra denali that abruptly shuts off on me while driving with no warning. i took in into the delearship and they stated that they fixed it. about a little over a year later it started acting up again off and on. i didnt want to deal with the dealership because they always say "it is not covered under warranty" although it only got worse. i ended up taking it back to the delearship recently because it got to the point where my truck was shutting off on me every day in the middle of the road. this was an accident waiting to happen! the dealership after over one week finally found that it is an electrical harness issue, sending the wrong signals causing my truck to abruptly shut off. they are charging me over $900. this should be a recall! how in the world is this not covered through gmc! i will never purchase a gmc vehicle again.

During normal driving in town and on highway, stabillitrak deactivated and power steering assist deactivated flashes on dash. the air conditioner and radio flash off. lose power steering. the whole truck shut off also once while reversing, went from park to reverse and shut off. this had been very dangerous, as it happened also while going 70 mph on the highway.

Slowing down to park on a street and lost steering and lights flickering, i just had recall reprogrammed &serviced 60 days ago, driver assist service lights also on and parking.i nearly crashed twice so far i need my vehicle for transportation and would like help with this immediately ,for it is a pricey luxurious vehicle.

Lost of power steering

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving approximately 65 mph, the service stabilitrac warning indicator illuminated, the door locks activated independently, and the power steering failed. additionally, the vehicle independently turned off and on within a few seconds. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 88,124.

All happened same day. was 8 hours from home and pulling into parking spot and the brakes went to the floor 3 times. has not occurred since. but when that happened the air started blowing warm and the service driver assist came on briefly. still air is blowing warm and the service driver assist comes on. have never had a check engine light come on. i am having it checked out this week.

The gmc sierra truck will loose power steering while it is being driven. this has occurred three times so far. there appears to be some type of electrical error with the trailer brake. then, numerous warning lights come on and the truck looses power steering. it is dangerous and difficult to drive at that point. it is random. the truck will connect again and everything will function like normal. the truck was taken to a gm dealership and they said there was communication errors. the fuse block was replaced for almost 600 dollars. then, the vehicle did the same thing again after that repair. i took it back to the same dealer. the vehicle was at their shop for 8 days. they were unable to get the error so no repairs were made. i have contacted gm corp on three occasions. the senior advisor assigned to my case has not ever contacted me about the issue. they advised that someone with gm would contact me in 2 days. it has been over 8 days. picking the vehicle back up from the dealer. this is a safety hazard. i feel that the gm engineers have knowledge about these issues but no one will even call me back. there is some electrical glitch that can cause the vehicle to loose its power steering. research shows that 690,000 trucks were recalled in 2017 in reference to recall # 17276 . the dealership advised that my truck received the necessary items for that in 2017. i don't know what to do. i currently have a truck that is not safe and gm doesn't seem to be concerned about it. it is a safety hazard. i'm sure other truck owners have had similar issues. i do not want someone to be injured or killed because gm will not step up and handle this issue. i lost power steering on may 14th, 15th and 23rd 2019.

The vacuum assist pump on my 2014 gmc sierra went out suddenly during my morning commute. the brake pedal became very firm and the brakes were unresponsive. if i had been driving in an congested area an accident would likely occur.

Takata recall, parking assist sensors quit working. abs lights stay on with the alert "service stabilitrak". manufacture faulty electrical ground is possibly the source of the problem. my truck is not even 5 years old yet. there have already been a lot of reports of this same issue by other owners. this is a safety problem that can cause collisions when depending on this feature to work.

While driving the vehicle is losing power in the steering wheel, prompting the stabilitrac warning light to come on. this happens while driving at any speed, while turning and while going in reverse

The airbag and stabilitrack lights come on and off then the door bell rings, every 3 seconds sometimes for continues 15 to 25 times while driving, started at 13331 miles. the dealer refuses to fix unless i pay for it

We had the vehicle recall notice about the stability and power assist repaired at our preferred gm dealership, james wood, before the problem occurred because of a recall notice we received last year. sunday, january 30, 2018 the dash displayed power assist limited and also displayed abs light . service engine soon, so we brought it to the dealership again. this time the vehicle was revving high but no display. the dealership observed the vehicle doing this but we were told the recall had already been performed. there is a revised product safety recall reference number n172085440. i'm alerting the nhtsa of this.

My 2014 gmc sierra shuts off while driving on the interstate with my family. in some cases all electrical blinks and it continues to drive while temporarily losing power steering and other features and other times turning off completely until coming to a stop. the dealership wants ~$400 to do diagnostics on a g218 bolt that they were told by gmc that it is related to. this issue came from the factory this way. while not wanting to pay that for the diagnostic and researching myself, i found 100s of videos online similar to the one below which shows this issue happening to owners of the gmc trucks. when i spoke with gmc customer care about this, they told me that there were no recalls on the issue. there are going to be truck owners that lose their life along with any passengers if this issue is not taken care. i am very scare for our safety and the safety of countless others like the link below have posted about this known issue. https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/198500-2014-and-up-guys-with-funky-electrical-issues/

Was driving down the highway at highway speeds rolled the passenger window up the stereo cut off the gauges cut out and the wipers wipes in one time. then a message stating stabilitrak needed to be serviced and electronic power steering was out

When driving the truck after extended periods of time (i.e. 1 hour or more) the vehicle will flash a stabilitrak warning and then power the vehicle off. this happened while my son, girlfriend and i were on a trip to florida driving 70 mph down the interstate. i took to a dealer and they informed me that the battery cables were loose. 4,000 miles the truck has done this episode again and the dealer now tells me that i need to replace the electronic rack and pinion on a truck with 65k miles with a cost of over $3k. there are numerous examples of this happening with trucks just like mine and gm isn't responsible? hard to fathom that in the 5 vehicles i have owned, not once have i had to replace a rack and pinion and the newest vehicle that i have every owned has this issue.

My truck.was.fixed.once for the sterring and is still.cutting out its.so.bad that its shutting the hole truck down.in the.middle.of the road an.on the highway or when u go to speed up it cuts out n the streen comes tight

The truck dies at any moment. stability track system warning pops up in the little screen and the steering wheel is blocked when this happen. after these to things happens the truck shut down. sometimes, after a few minutes the truck comes back to normal. this has happened to me for like 10 times in a period of like 15 months. i have taken to the dealer like 6 times and they haven't found the problem. they have change some wires from the battery. they have reprogram the software and nothing i still have the same problem. the truck dies at any moment. all of this happen when i am driving the truck most of the times at low speed and while turning to the left or right except like two times that occurred while i was driving in the highway. the mechanics in the dealer have done all kind of diagnostic that they have but they could not duplicated the problem so the answer that i get every time is that every is fine and that they couldn't duplicated the problem.

The truck will completely turn off, loss of electrical, power steering, braking - everything. first time was on highway30mph in traffic 2nd time highway going 45-50 in traffic & today in parking lot, turning in to droppoff lane an childs school. no stearing and hit the curb.

Stalbility control system suddenly went out when braking on dry surface. vehicle engine was disabled causing temporary loss of control. the latest occurrence happened while traveling at listed speeds on interstate 75. i have safety oncerns.

While driving my vehicle turns off, stability control comes on and offf on the dic also the drive assist goes off this is very dangerous then is when it looses power

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving various speeds, the steering seized and the stability warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to classic buick gmc arlington (1400 e interstate 20, arlington, tx 76018, 817-264-7782) where it was diagnosed that there was a failure with the stability of the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 71,000.

I temporarily had no control over the vehicle causing me to have an accident. while driving down a residential street approaching a stop sign intersection i merged into the center of st to pass a trashcan and in the process of returning to my correct position on the road i suddenly had no steering. panicking from the loss i pressed my brakes an attempt to bring vehicle to a stop but was unsuccessful because the tires began a slide once noticing the traction loss i proceeded to release brakes and reapply in hopes of gaining traction the brief relief from brakes caused the vehicle to regain traction and while i still have no control over steering, the vehicle jerks towards the right side of the road and the brakes being reapplied the vehicle continues to slide off pavement making contact with stop sign and telephone pole.

The first time i was driving down the highway and i hit the brakes and the dic said service stabilitrak and a few other things and i lost control of steering and my cruise wouldn't work for a minute the second time i was driving down the road and i gases on it and the whole truck shutoff and back on but i lost control of the steering again then i turned in my driveway and lost all steering and all power and the truck died i had to turn the key 2 or 3 times and if finally started it lost all power it reset my clock and everything on my radio and dic

Yesterday i was driving home on the highway driving approximately 75mph when without any warning a stability steering control light flashed on the dashboard behind my steering wheel. the car immediately jolted from driving mid 70's down to an immediate 67mph. this speed limit was the last thing that flashed before my dashboard blacked out, the steering column locked and the vehicle entirely lost power while driving. seconds later my windshield wipers sporadically started moving (i did not engage the switch) and i watched the temperature go up from 70 to 80 without touching the gauge manually. the car jolted for almost 10 miles sporadically losing control intermittently and when i exited off the highway and made a left hand turn at a low speed (under 15mph) the steering completely locked and the car pulled off to the side of the road toward a curb. i gained control of the vehicle manually which was difficult but i did correct the drive path back onto the road. i pulled into the dealership at a low rate of speed and the car did the same thing as it did when i exited the highway. i'm in a loaner and the dealer has my vehicle. this vehicle was purchased used roughly 2 months ago from a registered gmc dealer with 40k miles on it. it now has roughly 44k on it. i have made 1 payment on this vehicle thus far.

When i turn the ignition to start the vehicle, it acts as if the battery is drained. then there's a message that pops up briefly stating "stabilitrak". i'm concerned this is about to get much worse. the vehicle was stationary at the time of the message.

In the past 4 months, beginning at about 52k miles, i started receiving messages on my truck that said "stability control" was out and it locks the front left wheel, losing all steering, the radio and then the truck goes completely dead. the ac goes on/off and the headlights flicker. this is always at low speeds between 5-10 mph and most commonly when making a turn. i had the battery replaced at the dealership and now they're telling me i need a negative battery cable replacement?

Truck has stopped on random occasions since purchased in july 2017. been to two different dealers who have yet to diagnose issue. simply loss of steering and electrical power. each time it goes to dealer ,they cannot replicate error. could be related to recall n172085440 but not sure at this point. have a video of last instance of issue on august 5, 2017 but unable to load.

Twice while turning right at a moderate speed the stabilitrac system took over and started counter-steering to the left while still moving around a right hand corner. prior to this the stabilitrac warning was intermittently alarming at random. the vehicle also lost all power and the motor died at one point. dealership thought it may be attributed to a loose ground wire that they had found underneath the dashboard.

My truck loses power steering when turning left and practically comes to a stop mid turn. it takes approx. 5 seconds to be able to continue through the turn. stabilitrak notifications constantly alert on the dash for traction control, steering assist, etc and when doing slow maneuvering the a/c, stereo, and steering assist shutdown for a split second. recall is open under n172085440 for 2 weeks now and i know other people experiencing these same safety steering issues waiting for the fix to be published for this recall. please expedite the recall fix asap!!

When i am making left turns my stabilitrak warning goes off and locks up my steering wheel and won't allow me to turn and jerks the wheel which has caused a dislocated thumb and jammed fingers, it also powers down my entire electrical system. i have had several close calls with some serious accidents. i have almost been t-boned several times due to it powering down and not being able to turn. i have called the gm dealership and they said there is nothing we can do about this and they are aware of the recall. it's going to be a hefty lawsuit on their hands when someone is seriously hurt or dies because their steering wheel locks up. early june is when i started noticing this issue and it has only been getting worse!

I am recieving stabilatrac , abs, powersteering, errors. my wipers will only work if i hit my brakes. the cruise control doesn't work anymore.

Truck has 73,000 miles on it. while driving at approximately 20 mph i applied the brake and had the stabili track warning go off, as well as radio and fan shut off. as i was making a slight left turn the steering wheel jerked out of my hand and locked up, leaving me with absolutely no control of the vehicle in the middle of traffic. the steering wheel would release , jerk and lock repeatedly, it happened about 4 times while trying to regain control. at the same time while applying the brake i had virtually no brakes to stop the vehicle. looked for recalls and all i found were hundreds of similar complaints, but no solution or recalls. how is this not a recall, it's gross negligence... what if i was at highway speeds or towing my trailer at the time. gm and nhtsa need to address this issue immediately before lives are lost. as for me, i'm in the process of getting rid of a vehicle that i've had for 3 months because of this and will not let my children ride in the vehicle. it's an intermittent problem, i'm just hoping the next time it doesn't happen at 65mph. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled and the stabilitrak warning indicator illuminated. in addition, the steering wheel and brakes seized. the contact powered off the engine while in traffic. the vehicle was restarted and drove normally. the contact stated that the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to covert buick gmc (located at 11750 research blvd, austin, tx 78759, (512) 583-3411) where diagnostic testing was completed, but no failure code was found. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 103,000.

When i am driving at low speeds and i turn my steering wheel my wheel locks up and i am unable to turn by vehicle. when i am driving on the highway my display system goes in and out.

On or about 4 april, 2017 i experienced an alarm while driving my 2014 gmc sierra. while traveling between conroe tx and plano tx, i received a warning steering stability. the alarm cleared so i checked my owners manual and it said to take it to a dealer if it didn't clear. i used onstar and had a diagnosis done on the truck. they reported no problems. the next day the truck shut down, in the middle of making a u turn. my daughter thought she had knocked it out of gear but couldn't get it to start until she turned it off and back on. the same thing happened again (this time to my wife) turning into a parking lot. she took it to a gmc dealer to have it checked out. they found a broken gear in the electronic power assist assembly. we heard that our vehicle had a recall # 17276, for problem with the steering. i then took it to the dealer where i bought the truck and had the computer updated to prevent the problem. i then ask for a reimbursement for having to have the steering module and negative battery cable replaced. i contend that, at the time, the cause of the steering problem causing the truck to die. when i ask a technician at mckinney if the recall was for the problem, he said: no that is just to change an error in the computer. back in april, the only thing they could do to possibly prevent the stalling was to look for something like a power problem. before i took the truck in i had no indication of power problems and i was never told how the negative battery cable went bad, only that it happens and the truck was out of the 36 mo warranty. i checked on the internet to see if anyone else was having the problem and what the solution to it was? i saw several people were having the problem, but nobody knew what exactly caused it. the consumer requested to be fully reimbursed for the repairs made referencing the recall #17276. *js

Driving at low speeds in rush hour traffic and "degraded steering" warning with chime sounded. cleared itself and then chimed again with same warning about three minutes later. this was followed by stabilitrack warning and red brake warning. steering was somewhat harder to turn but was still being assisted. there didn't appear to be any degradation to braking. maybe the anti-lock system? the a/c then turned off and the radio volume went silent. the stabilitrack switch, a/c controls and radio controls were all ineffective. i noticed the amp gauge was below 12 as it seemed as if the truck electrical system was underpowered. i drove ten miles home and all systems reset by turning truck off and starting it up again. this is first time this has happened. truck has 66k miles on it.

When driving recently, my check engine light started flashing along with my stabilitrak light coming on. the vehicle started vibrating. the vibrating was especially rough while idle. the vibration was also rough while in lower gears and while braking. when brought in for service i was told it was a corroded ignition coil. this is the second time this has happened. i bought the vehicle new and it currently has about 37,000 miles on it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving approximately 45 mph, the steering wheel locked and the stabilitrack warning indicator illuminated. the contact had to stop in the middle of the road. the vehicle was turned off and restarted normally. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

Written by my wife on 11/04/16: on 11/02/16 at approximately 2:45 pm i was driving slowly through a parking lot trying to find a space. i found a space and as i turned my wheel to the left it locked up roughly, jerking the steering wheel out of my hands as i pulled into the spot. after the steering wheel locked up, jerking very abruptly, the power surged and the truck died. this is probably the 30th time this has happened to me. this particular time there was no error message displayed this time. usually i get a message which pops up on the instrument cluster forward of the steering wheel that says 'service stabiltrac' or 'action required, steering assist is reduced, drive with care.' it seems there is a steering malfunction because this issue usually occurs while making a turn but the truck has had this same error message while driving straight on the highway. i am unsure of what the problem is but i do know it is dangerous to drive this vehicle until the problem is resolved. road conditions/weather conditions also play no part in when this malfunction takes place. other pertinent information regarding this issue is that the headlights do flicker from time to time. we have been dealing with this issue since august of this year and have still not found a resolution. landmark chevrolet in taylorville, il has had our vehicle in the shop 4 times on this issue alone and put over 200 miles on our vehicle with no resolution. friendly chevrolet in springfield il had our truck for nearly 3 weeks and put over 70 miles on the vehicle...no resolution. here are a couple videos we recorded and uploaded to youtube documenting the issue. taken on september 18th, 2016: taken on september 19th, 2016: [xxx] parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' pm

Steering wheel springs/snaps (hard) in the opposite direction that the wheel is being turned and steering control is lost. when this does not shut the engine off, the only way to regain steering control is to restart the vehicle. when this does cause the engine to shut off the steering is restored with the restart. the stabili trak indicator appears just for an instant on the dic when this happens. note: this is not the 'service stabili trak' indicator but more like stabili trak has been activated indicator. this happened first in reverse while backing into a parking spot. (three times in reverse). then it started happening in drive, twice while pulling out from a stop sign and once while doing 15-20 mph turning onto a side street. the 15-20 mph turning instance caused the engine to shut off, steering became non existent for an instant and then very very heavy. i crossed the other lane of traffic and almost landed in the ditch. the truck has been at the dealership twice for a total of 14 days, both times 'cannot duplicate' was the result. no codes are being generated from these instances. cause is unknown. loose voltage or high resistance to grounds maybe. this has happened in hot and cold weather, running ac or heater or neither. there is no pattern. please help.

The problem started while backing a trailer and turning. the stabiltrack light came on and the steering wheel jerked out of my hand. it happened a few more times and then the truck died. later while driving the stabilitrack light would flash on and the dic would go black. the a.c. would also go out and come back on. it would also do this when turning on the signal light or stepping on the brake pedal. i was in a parking lot today driving slowly and the st message came then the dic went black again. when i tried to turn the wheel it started jerking back and pulled out of my hand. it seems that shutting the truck off and restarting solves the problem for a day or two. this is a very unsafe issue and i have seen and read many complaints. i have been a huge fan of gm and all i have ever owned were gm vehicles, but this issue is making me wonder if i should have bought a ford instead. it seems that gm is not worried about recalling because of this safety issue, which there are many complaining of the same thing, and my warranty is about to run out.

This issue is related to stabilitrak, the onboard computing system. when on the interstate, loss of power can occur. usually at high speeds, the power just 'flickers' on and off, some times repeatedly. the breaking mechanism seems to be somewhat affected by this. at slower speeds, the same problem can occur, but the steering wheel locks up and forces my truck to turn hard to the left. each time the problem occurs, "stabilitrak error" and "loss of traction control" or something along the lines of "loss of power, danger" will appear -- although, it is usually just something relating to "stabilitrak". i've nearly been in an accident ~3 times. it's no question a danger to the driver and to pedestrians. gm has been getting sued like crazy, and it's pretty clear they are avoiding this issue because of this.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving 40 mph, another vehicle crashed head on into the contact's vehicle. the air bags failed to deploy. a police report was filed. the contact sustained severe whiplash and a concussion, which required medical attention. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and sent an engineer to inspect the vehicle. shortly after, while driving at an unknown speed, the stabilitrac warning light illuminated and the power steering malfunctioned. the steering wheel jerked violently. the vehicle was towed back to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that all the steering electronic sensors needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 19,000.

Was making a right hand turn onto on-ramp, vehicle's brake lights on dash all came on, radio station changed channels and engine hesitated. warning lights on dash went out, radio stayed on switched channel, engine returned to normal, but service stability track information came up on panel. service warning went off in about 300 yards, vehicle returned to normal operation. *tr
