Problems with 2010 Ford Fusion FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2010 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 66 700 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

While driving on the freeway at approximately 50 mph in rush hour traffic, i suddenly lost all throttle control, requiring me to coast to the side of the freeway, thru 2 or 3 lanes of traffic. the amber "wrench" light was on. after stopping the car and shutting it off, i restarted it, and all was well again. "wrench" light was off, and i had full power/throttle control again. i continued my commute without further incident. the commute home was uneventful too. this is the second occurrence of the problem in the past month, and is very un-nerving when it happens in rush hour traffic as you coast while losing all power, trying to change lanes and avoid traffic. i'll be taking the car to the local ford dealer in the morning. searching the nhtsa database shows lots of complaints for this same issue. i think it is time for ford to have a recall.

I was coming home from work and i had just turned left on to [xxx] and the car start slow down i tried to accelerate but the car slowed to about 2mph and the engine just started to shake badly it wouldn't even pull the hill going to my house so pulled over in a neighbors yard and called my father he told me to just cut it off and wait a couple minutes then retry it and after i wait it started fine and the wrench light went off so drove it to my home about a mile away and it did it again when i was pulling in my drive way if this had happened when i was turning on to my road i could of been hit by another car this is a safety issue and needs to be recalled before some one gets hurt or killed. wise up ford it your cheap china parts that's causing the problems. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) *tt

I was driving on interstate 71 and the car felt as if it was loosing power. the wrench light came on and the engine light came on. i pulled over to the side of the interstate and turned the vehicle off. i waited a minute and started the vehicle. it started and i accelerated and i pulled onto the interstate. about a mile down the road the same thing happened and the vehicle lost power. i pulled over, waited and restarted the vehicle. i again pulled onto the interstate and the vehicle seemed to be okay to drive although the engine light was still on. i drove it directly to john nolan auto service. they checked the vehicle and stated that the eec. diag. p02111 stored in the computer for throttle body stuck open. they removed and replaced the throttle body assy and re-programmed the pcm.

I was travelling on an interstate doing 70 miles an hour when my car made a bang and i lost all throttle response. the car was running, seemed to go into neutral but pressing the gas pedal did nothing. i was able to cost over 4 lanes dodging traffic to get to a spot where i could come to stop. after turning off the engine and restarting everything went back to normal. now just over a week later it happened 3 more times in 1 day. doing research it seems this is a common complaint from fusion and escape owners. it also seems there may be an investigation under way as to whether this should be a recall issue. now if ford was to fix this it would be 1 thing, but after almost killing me on the interstate i now have to fork over $400 to the dealership because even though my car is several thousand miles short of the 30k mile warranty, the 3 year stipulation on my warranty ended less than 3 months ago.

We first noticed a slight hesitation at highway speeds. since then the car has completely stalled at slower speeds, and is difficult to keep running.

On monday, august 19, the car was serviced - the works fuel saver package. on sunday, august 25, i drove the car all morning, both highway and town driving. later on sunday, the car was parked for close to 1 hour. then i drove the car for approximately 10 minutes. after i was stopped at a red light i could not fully accelerate on green as the engine shook violently, the wrench light was lit. i was able, but only slowly, to pull over and stop the engine. after a few minutes i was able to start the car. no wrench light or engine shaking. i was able to drive home. on monday, august 26, i drove the car and once again at a stop i could not fully accelerate but was able to pull over as the wrench light was lit and stop the engine. i started the car and was able to drive home. i then called the service department. got an appointment for wednesday, august 28. on tuesday evening as i was driving the car to the dealership to leave the car overnight, once again the car had no acceleration from a stop with the wrench light lit. i started the car and drove to the dealership. on wednesday, august 28, service found that the electronic throttle body assembly had to be replaced.

My vehicle is a 2010 ford fusion se v6. i was traveling at 80 mph in the left lane on the highway when my car decided it no longer wished to accelerate. my speed immediately and drastically slowed despite keeping my foot to the floor on the accelerator. because i did not touch my brakes, there was no warning of my rapid deceleration to the vehicles behind me by way of brake lights. the vehicle directly behind me missed hitting me by about 2 inches and the vehicles behind that had to swerve - in very heavy traffic - to avoid hitting both of us. it was an extremely dangerous situation. i quickly threw on my hazards and pulled over on the left side of the highway. with my foot completely on the brake and the car completely stopped, the car shook, sputtered, and seemed to try to literally jerk forward entirely by itself. the only warning light that came on was the little wrench (throttle control/powertrain/stability). i put the car in park and removed the keys. i sat there for about 2 minutes, then i started up the car, saw no warning lights, and continued driving to my destination without a single issue. it was a truly terrifying experience. it has happened twice before but both times were at low speeds with no other cars around. i took it in to the dealership then and was told they could find nothing wrong with it. *tr

Basically the car shut down driving down the pennsylvania turnpike on friday morning at 65 mph, the car totally shut down. this happened 2 times at 65 mph and one time at about 25 mph while entering the turnpike. i was very lucky that the tractor trailer behind me going about 70 mph, saw something was wrong with my car and had time moved over into the passing or he would have hit my car and killed me. this happen one more time during my morning commute at that speed. i took my car yesterday to the ford dealer and he repaired the throttle body motor assembly. i have notified ford customer service case # cas-#[xxx], but i believe this is an immediate life & health safety recall issue. I was driving to work in rush hour traffic with cruise control on doing about 60mph and all of a sudden the car lost power.......engine began to run rough and would not accelerate above an idle (rough idle). there was no response to the throttle; the car would not go faster and could not maintain speed. it only decelerated. i immediately pulled out of traffic to the shoulder and limped to the nearest side street. i turned the car off, checked under the hood, and when i restarted, it ran perfectly fine. a check of the web and contact with the ford dealer indicated the throttle body was bad. the dealer indicated this was a common problem, that the part has been upgraded twice but my vehicle was not part of a service bulletin/recall. a new throttle body and about $500 later the car is fine its clear may drivers/customers are experiencing this same issue this was dangerous. when the issue happened i was being followed closely by a large truck. i had no warning and the only available option was to immediately pull out of lane and onto the shoulder.. fortunately i was in the extreme right lane and could pull out of traffic without incident - it would have been a serious incident had i been in the center of left lane, or where there was no available shoulder. *tr

Was traveling on 696 in detroit area at 70 mph when my 2010 ford fusion suddenly lost 'power' to the power train, it lost all velocity and the ability to accelerate. it went from 70 mph to 0 mph in seconds! i have never been so scared for my life as i was at that moment watching cars 'jump' lanes to avoid rear ending me due my sudden loss of power. i thank god i was able to cross multiple lanes making near the shoulder as the vehicle came to a stop! the engine was still running but list ability to move. dealership charged $600 to repair my vehicle which was 2 weeks out of warranty with 30,000 miles! when asked what happened the service manager said sometimes parts go bad. after reading about the issue, it sounds bigger problem than that. let me know what info you need. *tr

Upon accelerating from stop at city intersection to 30 mph, car suddenly lost all acceleration. coasted into nearby lot. "wrench" light on. turned car off. luckily, no car had been approaching from rear, and this was before entering ramp to busy 60 mph highway. car ran, as if normal after re-starting, wrench light out. drove 15 miles to dealer service shop. shop performed ford's throttle body test procedure and verified throttle body had failed. shop replaced electronic throttle body assembly; car at 54,000 miles. from researching, see that this a prevalent issue with increasing rate of occurrence (a top 5 car complaint over past 90 days). given the apparent incident rate, intermittent nature, and odds of occurring with sudden surprise in traffic moving at speed, clearly presents a hazardous condition and compromises safety in otherwise normal driving circumstances. evidently problem occurs within predictable range on odometer, which probably indicates some manufacturing defect leading to premature failure. along with the resulting safety risk exposure, this does not reasonably meet automotive consumer expectations for the equipment and technology. as more vehicles go through this mileage range, may become epidemic with increasing odds for bad outcomes. wanted to add my event to the list; maybe can save someone else potential serious accident and injury. to this point, the car seems good otherwise, but this item needs to be taken seriously and by all rights get remedied in a proactive manner.

The engine rpm drops to zero and the car coasts to a complete stop. sometimes upon restarting the engine , the car shakes violently. when it does start you can travel maybe a few feet sometimes a few miles then it starts all over again. i have taken it to be serviced and they identified the problem as the throttle body.

I was traveling at about 45 mph and without any warning my car stalled. it would not accelerate at all. i had to just let it coast and attempt to get out of the road. the car was still running, but very rough. after i cut the engine off, in a few minutes it did restart. but by this time a deputy had shown up. he would not let me try to drive the car, because it could happen again and would be a safety issue. i had to have the car towed. when they checked the computer nothing showed up. i then took my car my car to a local ford dealer. and without even checking the car the service person told me that it was the throttle body. as this is a common problem with my car. ford needs to recall this part. this is going to cost me around $600 to repair my car. this is extremely dangerous, if i had been in heavy traffic someone could have been injured. *tr

While driving at 65 mph the engine drops to idle. you have to pull over on the shoulder and restart the car. *tr

Was driving on the highway at about 65 mph and the car lost all response to the accelerator, pressing on the gas did not accelerate the car. pulled over to the side and car ran a rough. turned the car off, waited about a minute and restarted. car restarted fine and drove fine after that for the rest of the trip. my wife drove the car the next day and had the same thing happen while she was on the highway. she saw the check engine light come on (i don't recall it coming on, but may have just missed it). *tr

2 days in a row, driving 40-50 mph and my car completely loses acceleration. the wrench light goes on. i have to roll to a stop on the side of the road while the car shakes like it is stalling out. i turn the car off and wait a minute or two then turn the car on and everything is back to normal, no wrench light, no problems... until it happens again. this is very dangerous as i have a 10 month old daughter to drive around and wouldn't want to put ourselves in a dangerous situation on a busy road or highway. after researching online this problem seems to be a recurring issue with many fusion owners around the country. please help. *tr

In the middle of my drive home on the interstate at 60mph, the car just suddenly lost the ability to accelerate. as i put on my hazard lights and began pulling off to the side of the interstate, the car began mildly lurching. luckily, i was able to safely pull to the side of the interstate and get the car stopped. i turned the vehicle off and restarted a few minutes later to find the vehicle appearing to be completely fine. i got off of the interstate at the next exit and luckily made it safely home. upon taking the car to the dealership to be looked over, i was told the throttle body was "gummed up" and would need to be replaced. i am told that this type of repair is not something commonly needed to be done on a car only a few years old with only 56,000 miles, and the sudden loss of all ability to safely control the car on the interstate is an extreme safety concern. *tr

The car unexpectedly losses power. it has occurred on two occasions. you can continue to press on the gas petal but the car will not increase in speed.you must pull over to the side of the road. turn the engine off. wait a few minutes and restart the car in order to gain control of the throttle again. it has a defective throttle body. this is a known issue to ford. they have recalled the 2010 escape for this same issue. ford needs to recall the 2010 ford fusion for this issue before someone is killed or injured.*js

My 18 year old son was getting ready to get on the freeway and the vehicle suddenly slowed to 30 mph. we took the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the throttle body at our expense. this issue is so common that ford is having a hard time producing enough throttle bodies. the part is on national back order and this particular dealer had a car in the shop that had waited 1 month for this part. this is a serious safety issue. one minute later and my son would have been doing 65mph on the freeway. imagine if he was in traffic and suddenly could not travel faster than 30 mph. in addition, since this event the ford sync and bluetooth features no longer work. *tr

While traveling in the middle lane on i-77 at 65 mph, the car suddenly decelerated to a stop. the car was running but the car was unable to move. fortunately a brave passerby pulled off onto the left median, stopped traffic in the left lane, directed me to put the car in neutral & pushed my car over the left lane and onto the left median. a state highway patrolman, coincidentally, came by and called a tow truck. he pushed me farther off the road, fearing a rear end collision. the car was towed to a ford dealership where the throttle body was replaced. the tow cost over $80. if i had not purchased an extended warranty this repair would have been over $700. this was a terrifying incident as this is a heavily traveled stretch of interstate. i consider myself very unfortunate that i was not involved in a serious accident. if the good samaritan hadn't helped,i would have had to either stay in my vehicle & risk a rear end collision or try to leave my car in the middle lane, cross the left lane by foot, and wait for assistance along the left median. i have since learned that the throttle body defect in ford fusions has been well-documented. there should be a recall. i worry for my nephew & son-in-law who both have 2010 fusions. *tr

We were driving on a highway when the cruise control kicked off. i realized that the car had no power, so i went to the shoulder and the car was shuddering as i came to a stop. i turned the car off, checked to see if there was anything i could see wrong in the engine compartment, checked all fluids, etc. got back in the car and it started right up. we went a little while longer and it happened again. all in all, it happened probably 8-10 times in a little over a 100 mile trip. the wrench light would come on when the problem appeared, but only the service engine light would stay on after restarting.when we got back into town, i went to auto zone to have the engine code read and it was p2111 (throttle body). after doing some investigating, i found that this is a very common problem among these cars. i found out that it is very easy to replace, so tried ordering one. the part that most sources have listed is around $170. but, that part is not available and the replacement is $324. i think ford is gouging the consumers to fix a known problem that should be fixed under a recall. i have a 4 year old car that i don't dare take a trip with. *tr

While driving at 70mph on the freeway, i suddenly lost all throttle control, requiring me to coast to the side of the freeway and stop the vehicle. the amber "wrench" was illuminated. i turned the engine off, and then restarted, which cleared the amber "wrench" light, and the engine/throttle returned to normal operation. i drove home without further incident. fortunately, traffic was light at the time of the incident. *tr

Car suddenly lost power at highway speed, had to pull over, rough idling; amber wrench lit up. car towed to dealership. could not find problem but sounds like throttle body failure as described over internet and by another dealership's service manager. advised to see if occurs again. *tr

While driving to my brother-in-law's house my car abruptly shut off not allowing me to push in the gas at all. the rpms were at 1. i came to a rolling stop and shut the car off. i restarted the car an drove 1/4 mile further and the car did the same thing. luckily my husband was with me and felt it happen, he was able to limp it to the closest ford dealer where they told me my throttle body needed to be replaced at a ridiculous cost. my extended warranty does not cover this and after reading endless things about throttle bodies on ford vehicles this seems to be a very common problem. i am so very thankful that my car didn't shut off on the interstate with my children in the car. i can only imagine what could have happened. i do not believe that the endless number of customers should have to pay for such a critical part of our vehicle to have to be replaced. in my opinion a recall should be in place because what is happening is not a simple problem, it is very dangerous. *tr

After accelerating to approximately 55 mph, leaving off the accelerator, engine lost power. had to pull off the road. engine was at slow rough idle. after shutting engine off and turning back on, check engine light came on. *tr

I was traveling on the interstate at highway speed. traffic had slowed alittle so i began to slow as well. when i pressed the accelerator nothing happened. the wrench light came on the dash. i had no control over the acceleration of the car. after almost being taken out be a semi i was able to get the car off to the side of the interstate. the car was idling very rough. i shut the car off and waited a few seconds. i restarted the car and the light was off. i was able to drive home with no more problems. seems that ford has a major issue. i thing they should be made to recall these cars before someone gets killed. *tr

After accelerating to approximately 55 mph, leaving off accelerator, engine lost power. had to pull off the road. engine was at a rough idle. after shutting engine off and re-starting check engine light came on. would have been dangerous in traffic. *tr

Call stalled in the middle of driving 2 xs in the worst part of the city. would restart but stall after a few more minutes of driving...had to coast into parking lot and get towed to downtown ford in canton ohio to be repaired. downtown ford said throttle body...over $600 to repair on a vehicle with only 39000 miles. *tr

For the last couple of weeks i have been having an issue with my 3 year old ford fusion (2010) started stalling out at random times for no apparent reason. when this happened the first time i called my local dealer and asked him what may be wrong with my vehicle and he said that there was a common issue with the throttle body, which causes the car to stall occasionally and that it would cost me around $350 for the part alone. i believe this to a major safety problem because one time this happened to me i was traveling on the highway at 60mph with a semi-truck behind me and the trucker came very close to hitting me. i also had this happen to me at an intersection while taking off from a red light, turning left. i have done some online research about this issue and it does seem to be a problem amongst many ford fusion owners in cars that are only 2 or 3 years old. if this is such a common occurrence that ford dealers know that this issue exists then i ask why hasn't this part been recalled? *tr

My 2010 ford fusion has stalled several times while driving and while attempting to accelerate from a stopped position. several times it has almost caused me to stall in the middle of a busy intersection when turning left, stop while driving on a busy freeway, and quickly accelerate when my foot has been on the brake peddle. *tr

Car idling rough, engine stalls multiple times when at idle or slow (parking lot) speeds. multiple occurrences over several days. read that it was a very common problem with these ford fusion cars, being the throttle body. verified with mechanics. no trouble codes given by on board computer. several days later, engine stalled while driving on the interstate at speeds of 65-70mph. this has continued happening from time to time, even after cleaning of the throttle body that is on national backorder. idle issues also continue. still no trouble codes given by the on board computer. *tr

While driving on the highway at 60 , in a section of highway with no breakdown lane and multiple highways merging together, the car suddenly lost all throttle power and wrench light went on. coasted to side of road barely being missed by several other vehicles and trucks. i shut car off and started again and was ok and able to get off highway. once off highway car kept loosing throttle power every mile until i got it to the dealership. dealership says this is an issue with 2010 fusions and that part is not available until end of october! (already had throttle body and plate cleaned a few weeks ago when it happened on a cold start and code came up p2111 throttle actuator control stuck open. car was fine until now.) *tr

I was traveling on the hwy going home. the little wrench light came on the dashboard without warning or any kind of notice and i could not accelerate at all. when i tried to press the gas pedal it would not do anything at all. i managed to pull over to the median. i tried shutting off the vehicle and then restarting it. this solved the problem temporarily. this happened to me three times the rest of my way home. without warning the light comes on and you have no acceleration. i'm being told it could be the throttle body. *tr

Driving along fine and then suddenly no throttle at all. had to pull off the road. car still idling rough. had to shut off and restart then it was ok. has happened 10 times know on highway and on secondary roads. very dangerous situation. *tr

We were driving down a busy road when we suddenly lost acceleration and could not move to safety. the wrench light came on and we had to get towed. we later found out that it was the throttle body, which was a common, known problem with this particular model. *tr

Was traveling at approximately 55mph when the car lost all propulsion. i was able to get to the shoulder, shut it down, and start back up after about a minute. this occurred 3 times on a 25 mile drive. appears to be a faulty throttle body based on the codes being thrown off. the car only has 40,000 miles and based on multiple user boards this is a problem ford is aware of. unacceptable for such a key part to fail so early in its like. if i was stuck in the left lane this could have resulted in a very dangerous situation. *tr

While driving on the freeway my car was running but when i pushed on the gas nothing was happening and the yellow wrench light was on in the car. i had to coast out of the way of all the traffic with being ran into and thank goodness it wasn't during rush hour. this has happened five times since i bought the car used and it doesn't even have 65,000 miles on it yet. i have already taken it to the shop and they determined it was a clogged fuel injector. that was cleaned it the car ran fine for half a day and then it did the same thing twice in one day within fifteen minutes of each event. i put the car in park and turn it off and turn it back on and its fine. this seems to be a problem with the throttle body which seems to be the issue that is all over the internet. this needs to be recalled because its a matter of time before someone dies or gets hurt when this happens to their car. *tr

Car stalled while driving on the highway. the engine would restart but ran very rough. i was able to get off the highway. the other occasion was at an intersection. both times the car had to be towed to autonation in union city, georgia. the throttle body was replaced under warranty. *tr

When traveling down the road in typical conditions the power could cut out on the engine. electrical power would still be on but no power would go to the engine forcing me to pull off the road and restart. this has happened several times and caused a minor bump with a traffic barrel. ford lists this as service notice when it should be a recall, i could have been killed had i not had enough room to avoid the semi truck speeding behind me. *tr

I was driving on the highway when my car starting losing power. the little wrench light and check engine light came on. i was able to pull over to the side of the road and shut off the car. i restarted the car, but turned off the air conditioning. after driving another 7-8 miles, i turned on the air conditioning and the same thing happened. when i restarted the car, i turned off the air and it drove fine. i took it to a mechanic because the book that came with my vehicle said to have the diagnostics checked, but the mechanic said no code is showing up. *tr

Car lost power while driving at 45 mph, after about 10 minutes of driving. it would not respond to accelerator pedal and the wrench light went on. i pulled off to side of road; car restarted after 2-3 tries; drove without incident for next 1500 miles. since then has stalled three times, usually within a few minutes of initial start driving at 30-40 mph. each time, restarts with one or two tries and runs ok, but feels sluggish. *tr

My daughter owns a ford fusion 2010 and has had multiple incidences of throttle body failure. we have taken it to the dealer, who diagnosed it and ordered the part. the part is back ordered due to so many failures on several types of ford cars and trucks. a little research on the part of the nhtsa would show it is past time this part should have been recalled!!! losing acceleration in the middle of pulling into traffic whether in town or highway is exceptionally dangerous, the nhtsa and ford need to step up before deaths occur. *tr

Vehicle went into limp mode @ 70 mph on interstate. came very close to a collision before getting vehicle to the side of the road. need a recall from ford now before it becomes so large like toyota and the death rate starts to climb. it is a defective part and ford knows it.what does it take 10 deaths or 100. *tr

I was driving to work yesterday morning and almost got rear ended by a semi when my car lost power. after work i took my car to the mechanic and he verified that there is an issue with the throttle body. after finding this out i did some research online and found that this appears to be a very common problem. i have read countless pages of complaints on this particular problem happening to other people. without a doubt, i feel that there should definitely be a recall on this issue. i guess it takes someone to get killed before that will happen though. this is not the first time this has happened to me and probably won't be the last. i would hate to see someone get killed over this. it will bring a hefty lawsuit. *tr

While driving the gas pedal begins to shake and then the car shuts off completely. have read several reviews/complaints about it being the throttle body, and that's what it is. $800, and warranty is expired, but brought the car in previously to ford with the same issues, they couldn't find any problems then. don't feel i should pay for a mistake made by ford. *tr

I was driving in windber, pa going around a sharp turn with a tri axle coal truck on my bumper, as i went to press the gas pedal the car made a pop noise. looked down at my dash and the wrench light came on right away, i could not get any gas to the engine, i tried to get off the road but there was not a shoulder on the highway.i immediately put my turn signal on and the car just coasted along the side until it came to a stop on the shoulder of the roadway on the curve, might i add. i turn my car off and called my husband told him he told me to call laurel ford and see if they could tow it for us. i left the car sit because i was going to a appointment in somerset i did not want to be late, when i returned from the appointment the car started right up no wrench light i drove to laurel ford, i went in talked to the service rep they looked over my car and advised me that the computer did not locate a problem, but they have found that the throttle body has been the problem with this model of car. he explained that the part was on national back order and was unsure when he could get the part. i drove the car home that day with no problem, i attempted to drive the car again to go to work on tueday 7 miles from home the car did the same thing went to give it gas and the car shut off i pulled to the side of the road and turned the engine off and it started back up no wrench light. went to work going home from work it did it again and not only the wrench light but the engine light came on as well. i got the car home called laurel ford and took the car to them for repair there is not part to be found its on national back order and its been two weeks i have called ford and have not given me a time or date of where the part is or if the part is available. i called ford service twice ...

Was driving approximately 45 mph car just went to idle throttle was unresponsive wrench light came on about got rear ended has done it several times since help. *tr

As your driving your vehicle down the road the car just looses power, 2nd time in two years throttle body went out. part is on national back order this time, ford will not help or assist with repair if vehicle is out of warranty.. this is very dangerous, car looses power at any speed and i was almost ran over by a semi tractor trailer. when it happens the wrench light comes on ; on computer from diagnostic pedal ids self test code shows up is p2112. *tr

On several occasions, the vehicle has no throttle response will driving. the car must be safely pulled over to the side of the road, turned off, and then restarted to correct the problem. the wrench light comes on every time this occurs, and the check engine light comes on some of the time. this is very hazardous due to the driving conditions that may be evident at the time the problem occurs. the local ford garage diagnosed the problem as the need for the electric throttle body replacement, part #ds7z-9e926-a. *tr

Throttle body is defective on vehicle. causes vehicle to not get any gas and shuts down to an idle with the wrench light illuminating. many people have this known issue. driving in dallas i found this to be very unsafe with so much traffic. could have been seriously injured as the vehicle would not move. *tr
