Problems with 2010 Ford Fusion FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2010 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 66 700 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

I purchased a new 2010 ford fusion hybrid se from a ford dealership in fairfax, va. after owning the vehicle for approximately 9 years, the vehicle no longer operates in electric mode (it only operates in gas mode). my average mpg has dropped from 37-40 mpg to 25-27 mpg. i took it to a ford dealership service center manassas, va in nov 2019 who indicated they are aware of the problem but they have no solution to fix it (they initially were going to charge me $150 diagnostic fee but waived the fee and sent me home). there are numerous reports in ford vehicle forums with the same complaint. consensus is that ford programmed the electronic mode to stop working after 9 years. when i purchased the vehicle, there was no disclosure that i would no longer have a properly working hybrid after 9 years. this end-of-life decision would have to be programmed into the vehicle's ecu at the time of manufacturing and should have been disclosed by ford at the time of purchase. had ford disclosed this, it would have directly impacted my decision to purchase the vehicle. the fix appears to be reprogramming the vehicle to make it think it is less than 9 years old which returns the hybrid functions to normal. according to several forums, some ford service centers have conduct this fix, but the majority of ford service centers are not willing/able to resolve this issue. this issue has been identified in ford's oasis database with no solution. tsb #ssm 48238 nhtsa id #10167224 was announced in oct 2019. refer to forums with identical issues and solutions: (https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-c28475_ds1000144), (https://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/fusion_hybrid/2010/tsbs/), (https://www.fordfusionforum.com/topic/19361-my-instructions-on-restoring-the-hybrid-ev-function-on-the-ford-fusion-hybrid-approaching-the-89-years-mark/).

In motion on highway with cruise control car dashboard shows 'stop safely now' loose acceleration. turn car off then back on and can drive. check engine light on. told vacuum pump creating issue. replaced and car okay. while in motion on highway during acceleration 'stop safely now' entire car shuts down while driving. loss of brakes, steering, acceleration. get car towed back to shop and told acid leak degraded wire harness. but also told they can't ensure the car will be fixed from repairing. how does a battery leak so bad without any cracks. no shop can confirm the acid leak is causing the brake issue. possible abs module, electronic control, o2 sensor replacement too.

My 2010 ford fusion had the service power steering light come on while driving down the highway, and then the power steering went out and the service advancetrac came on. i called the dealership and even though my car has two open recalls for airbags and fuel tank, along with an extended one on my throttle body, they can't get my car in until next month. i've tried disconnecting the battery terminals, and replaced the battery in hopes that it would reset the computer as the car does not have a power steering pump and is controlled by a computer chip.

After pumping gas in the vehicle, the engine does not turn on. the engine chokes and turns directly to battery mode. you must floor the gas pedal 3 to 4 different times in order for the vehicle to start. must sit and wait about 5 minutes for the idleing to stop before putting car into drive mode.

Car no longer converting to electric vehicle as it used to under similar circumstances. only time it switches to electric vehicle is when brake is depressed, coasting down hill or at a stop. dealer has run ford diagnostics and has no idea what is wrong. the same issue is being reported on various websites.

We had driven to a football game, when we returned to the car it would not start. all the lights worked, it turned over perfectly every time, but it would not start. had it towed to the mechanic in the morning and it started for them. however, after multiple test they were able to get it to stop starting. checked the codes and it said o2 sensor. replaced o2 sensor. car died on my way home from the mechanic while pulling out onto the highway from a stop sign where vehicles are traveling 60mph with my two small children in the car. terrifying! i barely chugged across the lanes and got the nose of my car on the shoulder. i turned the car off and after a few tries it restarted. when i got home, i took the battery cables off the battery for the weekend as i read that could help the faulty computer issue. so far, i have not experienced this issue again. a couple of weeks before this, i noticed that at speeds of 50 mph the car felt like it was speeding up and slowing down really fast like pulsing.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled and turned off. the contact was able to turn on the ignition and park on the side of the road, but the vehicle stalled again. in addition, the check engine and battery/charging alert warning indicators illuminated. the contact also noticed fuel leaking from both exhaust pipes and noticed a fuel stain underneath the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the contact's home and then taken to north county ford (located at 5829, 450 w vista way, vista, ca 92083, (888) 833-0634). the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 117,000.

I was driving 70 mph down the highway and my car just quit running. a few warning lights came on and i pulled over to the shoulder of the road. i was able to restart the car and merged onto the highway; the car quickly died again. i had the car towed home and was unable to start the car again since the anti-theft lock light was on. i had the car towed to a dealership and i am waiting to hear back from them.

Driving down interstate or street car orange wrench light comes on car goes into limp mode close to getting hit

Fuel smell while driving, and also when filling gas it will not show that it is full.

Fuel tank crack: nhtsa campaign number: 15v793000 safety recall 15s34 this is a known issue for this model however the recall did not include my vin. the recall included 2.5 and 3.0 liter engines mine is 3.5 liter v6. i am having the exact same issue as the complaint filed may 2,2019. nhtsa id number: 11205410 vehicle identification number listed in original complaint 3fahp0hg2ar**** if i fill my car above a half of a tank it leaks out all over the place and it leaks whether i'm driving or parked.

I had already gotten my throttle body repaired the year before my car started jolting as if it was malfunctioning again. this time though the vehicle would jump when i tried accelerate from stop, rpms would go all the way up to 5 before switching gears and the speedometer would move up and down while electrical lights flickered. took it to ford and nothing was found so i got an oil change and transmission flush. that same day the car started doing it again. i took the car back to ford they offered to clean the throttle body and returned the car the next day. not even 24hrs after started the same problem. i took car to auto zone they immediately found an error for the camshaft position sensor. brought car back to ford where they had me leave it for two days for the transmission tech to look at it. they then said oil had leaked onto the sensor causing the car to drive that way. replaced that and the head that was leaking. car was still jolting and driving as if throttle body was messed up but worse. i brought my car back that same week they found a sensor that needed to be replaced in the transmission. this whole while i was 8-9 months pregnant and ended up spending 1200 dollars on something that should've been fixed the first timr and in my opinion a side effect from the car having a defective throttle body for so long before they allowed it to be fixed.

My car is having tank issues. it will not go even if you press the gas. it begin to jerk then cut off and continue to drain my battery. if try to start won't stay started was told it was fuel pump leaking. it was being driven on the highway begin to smell fuel.

Rapid deceleration: while driving on the freeway rapid deceleration occurred. car slowed to about 25mph and would not accelerate when gas pedal was pushed. exited freeway.. turned engine off and restarted. car operated normal. no error icons showed. about a half mile from home problem reoccurred crawled home at 10mph. next several days problem did not reoccur. about a week later same problem reoccurred while driving home ..10mph. spoke to ford service to see if they would cover repairs and they declined. took it to my repair shop and they replaced the throttle body. $600. very scary dangerous situation when this occurs on the freeway.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. after refueling the vehicle, the contact detected a fuel odor and noticed fuel leaking under the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the top portion of the fuel tank was rusted. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while the vehicle was at loganville ford (3460 us 78, loganville, ga 30052) for regular scheduled maintenance, the mechanic found a leak and stated that the fuel tank needed replacement. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: cas-17256003. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 250,000.

Takata recall auto accident frontal bumper damaged, no air bag deployed. insurance not fix claim due to 1000.00 deductible and left with expense of repairs

If i fill my car above a half of a tank it leaks out all over the place and it leaks wether im driving or parked

1- driver side locked handle broken won't locked, 2-check fuel fill inlet and engine light turn 3-power steering problem

Code: p1450 recall 15v793000

While in motion my vehicle does not speed up when coming from a dead stop. even traveling speeds of 60mph i can not push on the gas and proceed fast enough to quickly switch lanes. it runs high rpms

Filled car with gas a couple of weeks after replacing canister purge valve began to smell fuel. i took the car into the dealer on 14 december 2018 for the air bag recall and asked to have the fuel smell checked. the technician told the tank was cracked and needs replacing. he showed me with the car on the rack that fuel was leaking from the top of the tank.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle was designed to have a fuel system without a fuel cap. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing because it failed an emissions test. the test read that the fuel cap was missing and the check engine indicator was illuminated. the vehicle was towed to columbia ford (234 willimantic rd, columbia, ct 06237, (860) 228-2886) where it was diagnosed that the fuel cap was missing. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was 138,009.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving various speeds, the check engine indicator illuminated continuously. the vehicle was taken to cavalier ford greenbrier (1515 s military hwy, chesapeake, va 23320) where it was diagnosed that the evaporator purge valve needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel vapor vent valve failed and the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v79300 (fuel systm, gasoline). the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 135,676.

Takata recall i was driving and the car began to slow down rapidly. i was unable to control where i was going and unable to accelerate or decelerate. i have no control over the vehicle when this happens. it is not an all the time problem, but does happen very often. the check engine light comes on when it happens and the car accelerates briefly before instantly shutting off. the wrench symbol also comes on before this all takes place. i could be using cruise control or just normal driving and it happens in both situations. the vehicle tends to do it no matter where you are such as a high way or on a regular city street. i have had the vehicle checked out numerous (six) times to see why it does this. the mechanic hooks it up to the computer every time and states there is nothing wrong but then resets the symbol lights so they go out. the car will be fine for a week or so and then do it again! it is scary when it happens and i try not to drive the car due to this issue. how can you fix something the mechanics state is not broken? something isnt right with the vehicle and something needs to be investigated to see why it does this! it can not only be my car!

Took my car in for the fuel tank recall. the dealer replaced the purge valve and said they inspected my tank, which was good. i was not able to fill my tank full until 5 weeks later and when i did i went straight home and smelled gas very strongly. my car was parked for about an hour and a half when i noticed a huge puddle under it which turned out to be gas. it leaked a quarter tank out! i immediately called the dealer and they told me they couldn't get me in until thursday, this was monday. the car sat until then. i drove it to the dealer thursday. they submitted paper work and pictures to ford. friday they heard back from ford stating they needed to drop the tank to take better pictures. the dealership was not able to do this until monday. monday came, tuesday still no word, and finally on wednesday i get word saying that ford denied the recall and are not paying for it. the whole point of the recall was that the purge valve in the canister was building up pressure and cracking tanks. but they denied it. i called ford's customer line and was connected to a very rude man named ryan who acted like i know absolutely nothing about cars when in fact i have worked on (specifically ford) cars for over 20 years. he refused to let me speak to a supervisor and then proceeded to tell me that the supervisor would tell me the same as he did. i am very upset. my car is not fixed from the recall and they want me to pay $1000 for a new tank that cracked at the seal from their faulty part.

I bought this vehicle a week ago from a well known dealership. i was told the car was tested and had no mechanical problems. it had clean carfax and one owner. after having the car a few days the engine light came on and the car started surging and i lost accelerartion and ability to keep car on the road. i barely made it home and am fearful to drive it. i think there is a problem with the gas tank or similar component. the dealer said it was sold as is so now i have to pay for repairs that should have been detected and fixed. i am seeing other owners of this vehicle having same issues. ford needs to issue a recall for this. someone is going to get seriously hurt. i get dialysis 3 times weekly and thought this car would be reliable. now i will be paying for repairs.

Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign numbers: 19v001000 (air bags), 14e028000 (equipment), and 15v793000 (fuel system, gasoline). the contact detected a strong fuel odor inside the vehicle and the vehicle failed to start. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. cavalier ford at chesapeake square (4021 portsmouth blvd, chesapeake, va 23321, (757) 488-8311) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown. parts distribution disconnect.

Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 16v384000 (air bags) and 15v793000 (fuel system, gasoline). the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. crossroads ford of indian trail (88 dale jarrett blvd, indian trail, nc 28079, (704) 912-0560) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.

Takata recall i got a recall notice about my gas tank leaking fumes. i took it to a ford dealer and they told me that it was fine and that they did not have to replace it. i thought that if there is a recall that they had to replace the defect the date it happen is when i bought it

Gas tank is leaking. per ford- a recall fix was done in 2016 on the purge valve, but not the tank itself. the tank itself is leaking. per ford since the recall fix was donr in some capacity, it doesn't qualify for the remaining portion being fixed.

Every time i push my brakes to stop, my brakes goes all the way down to the floor. i've replaced my master cylinder and my brake booster but it's dong the same thing.

I have a 2010 for fusion. i have had it for 2 years now and it recently started leaking gas a few weeks ago. it is leaking from my tank by the rear passenger tire and it leaks mostly when i fill up or put at least 3/4 tank of gas in the car. i see that there was a recall on my car for this very issue and i am trying to see if it were too late for me to get it looked at as a part of the recall

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that there was an internal fracture concerning the fuel system. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v793000 (fuel system, gasoline), but the contact did not receive a notice from the manufacturer. the failure progressed and there was a strong odor of fuel and a warning indicator for the fuel system illuminated. an independent mechanic replaced the fuel tank. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. the failure mileage was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v793000 (fuel system, gasoline). the vehicle was taken to sheehy ford of marlow heights (5000 auth rd, marlow heights, md 20746, (301) 298-0793) where the vehicle was inspected and the remedy was performed. the canister purge valve was repaired and the valve assembly was replaced. two years later, the check engine indicator illuminated again. the vehicle was taken to an auto shop where it was diagnosed that the canister purge valve needed to be replaced. the contact called sheehy ford of marlow heights where it was confirmed that the recall remedy was completed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and stated that the recall was completed per nhtsa campaign number: 15v793000 (fuel system, gasoline). the failure mileage was 126,000.

Recall 15v793000: fuel tank cracks and leaks fuel. 03/05/2018 my car had check engine light on. i checked it at firestone service and it showed code p1450. they found that valve cover gasket was leaking. i've been told that this is a recall and i have to go to dealer. while i waited 3 weeks for appointment with dealer my check engine light went off and they just charged me for test and didn't do any repairs. also they told me that my car was not recalled. right now i have check engine periodically on for couple days and after that off.

Takata recall, ford most recently recalled the airbags in my car, however just like my previous recall there is no parts available, they say the car is safe to drive but i don't want to risk my safety as well as the others in my car if it is not. previously my car was stuck at the ford dealership for over 8 months due to a fuel system recall, and they refused to buy back the car but did significant damage to the paint, and interior of the car when they had it. i have pictures from those damages that never got repair by ford or the dealer all they agreed to do was replace the battery in the car.

Started bout december 2017 put gas in read hundred ten miles to e maybe bout 75-80 miles later be 10 miles to e smell fuel especially when idiling

I was sent a letter that i would be contacted when the replacements were available

I took my 2010 ford fusion into cross roads ford in shelby nc - telephone number 704-482-6791 for the gas tank recall in january 2017. the recall is number 15534. the dealorship said that they did the recall but i continued to smell fuel vapors. in the meantime classic ford has been purchased by classic ford and the service manager, [xxx] is telling us that this is my problem and that classic is not resposnilble for cross roads maintenance issues. i contacted cross roads ford again several months later and they said that they had already performed the recall and that it would cost me to have them to check the issue again. i took my car to earl tindol ford gastonia nc o n november 28 and service rep that the valve on the gas tank was apparently not fixed or fixed properly. i called the ford motor company customer support on wednesday, november 28 to see if they would assist with the issue and i was directed back to the dealership (classic ford) that orginaly performed the recall. i contacted [xxx] at classic ford on november 28 and he said to bring the vehicle in and they would look at the issue. i was notified on november 30 that the valve is apparently not working correctly and that this was a non covered charge since the recall was already performed. i perceive that this is a bad safety problem because of the gasoline vapor smell and the vehicle could ignite. i feel that my car should be fixed at no charge because i have continued to smell gasoline even after the recall. i can be reached at [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I had a new battery placed and the oil changed with my local mechanic. i drove 3.5 miles home and, upon turning into my neighborhood, a red "stop safely now" alert flashed. there was no traffic so i proceeded to my home. approximately 0.2 miles later the car lost acceleration, continuing at 10mph (even with the gas pedal to the floor) before losing all acceleration. i turned the car off and back on. the alarm had cleared. i restarted the car and drove 300 feet when the alarm recurred. i was 50 feet from my driveway so i restarted the car, cleared the alarm and went 15 feet before it recurred, with no ability to move in drive or reverse. i restarted the car a third time and the alarm had cleared again. i was pulling up my driveway at a significant incline when it recurred. i was able to make it up my driveway and park. i called my mechanic and, after a quick on-line search, he informed me there was ford technical service bulletin 12-5-14 on this specific issue. this was an extraordinarily dangerous situation. this incident occurred without warning. in other circumstances-my wife or children in the car, driving on the highway, driving in rapidly moving traffic- my family's well-being would have been placed at great risk. ford should not be allowed to jeopardize the safety of my family for a problem they are clearly aware of and are not addressing, i assume to minimize financial losses. what is being done to hold ford accountable for ensuring the safety of their customers and other drivers on the road who are also placed at risk by this design flaw ford acknowledges?

Vehicle was brought in for purge valve recall (the valve was merely inspected but not replaced). afterwards the check engine light kept coming on intermittently. bumps in the highway would cause the check engine light to go on or off. when i attempted to sell the vehicle it would not pass inspection. according to the ford dealer, this same purge valve involved in the original recall became stuck open. ford was not willing to fix the problematic purge valve free of charge.

Takata recalls - i was driving and my car sensor came on saying power steering assist fault. i didn't think nothing of it. so the next day taking my daughter to school and my steering wheel would turn at all. i had to get towing services. i call ford about it they told me in customer no parts available at this time. the company is in bankrupt . they don't know when to get it in. when they do they will notify me

Throttle body is defective, causing for unexpected lunging and stalling out during acceleration. happens at very unpredictable times while driving the vehicle. the throttle body has been replaced 2 times at a cost of aprox. $180

The hybrid completely shut down at approximately 65 mp on the interstate. it was like turning off the key. a red triangle light said good luck "stop the car". this is within 100 miles having paid 1200 to a ford dealer to replace throttle body and cooling pump that wasn't one of the 1.6 million ford had to extend warranties. shame on nhsta for not making them recall everything.

The throttle actuator sticks closed causing the vehicle to go much slower than expected and this occurs at unexpected times. the condition creates potentially hazardous conditions for the driver and vehicle occupants. numerous people are reporting the same issue in online vehicle forums. engine code produced by the vehicle computer is p2112.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion se. the contact stated that the fuel tank leaked fuel underneath the vehicle causing the vehicle to loose a quarter tank of fuel overnight after refueling. there was no warning, except that the contact smelled fuel constantly. the vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where there was no leak detected. the vehicle was not repaired and was taken to another dealer for a second opinion. the vehicle was then diagnosed at riverside autoplex of poteau dealer (918-647-2228, located at 2100 s broadway st, poteau, ok 74953) where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank was defective and caused the leak. the dealer informed that on 08/2018 the vehicle was inspected under nhtsa campaign number: 15v793000 (fuel system, gasoline) however was concluded that the vehicle did not require the recall remedy performed and the recall was closed under the vin. the dealer requested the recall be reopened again to perform the repairs on the vehicle but the request was denied by the manufacturer. the dealer confirmed that the canister purge valve (cpv) and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact informed that the recall was within the service warranty period of 12 months and 12,000 miles of the closing repair order however the manufacturer's decision remained in declining the recall to be reopened. the contact mentioned that the vehicle was currently not being driven due to the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 159,000.

While driving on the highway my 2010 ford fusion hybrid suddenly lost power and quickly decelerated from 65 mph to less than 20mph. i took it to the dealer who said that the throttle body needed to be replaced. this is the same issue on the non-hybrid ford fusion for which ford has issued an extended warranty under customer satisfaction program 13n03 however ford has excluded hybrids and manual transmissions that have the same throttle body part.
