Problems with 2010 Ford Fusion SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2010 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 93 313 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

While coming to a slow stop down a small incline, i heard a loud pop, and the car started to roll forward. in order to stop the vehicle, the pedal had to be pressed and excessive amount towards the floor. pedal travel continues to be excessive with no brake warning light on, and vehicle jerks slightly to the left during the initial portion of a stop.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving various speeds over a small bump in the road, the brake pedal extended to the floorboard without warning. the contact pulled over, shut off the vehicle, pumped the brake pedal, and restarted the vehicle. once restarted, the brake pedal returned to normal. the vehicle was taken to sas tire and auto (located at 850 west bristol, indiana, 46514), but the failure was unable to be duplicated and an error code could not be found. the contact had the brakes, rotors, and pads repaired by an independent mechanic (chuck's auto garage). the failure recurred two more times while driving over a bump in the road. the manufacturer was notified and provided case number: cas-12555603. no further assistance was offered. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000. updated 08/24/17*lj *cn

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving approximately 20 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to operate normally. the contact stated that the brake pedal was very hard. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000. the vin was unavailable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the brakes failed to engage twice while in a residential driveway. the failure also occurred while driving approximately 20 mph and the brake pedal did not fully function without being pumped and applying pressure. the failure was reported to the manufacturer and the contact was to schedule a repair appointment with the dealer to determine a repair solution. the approximate failure mileage was 27,000. updated 08/22/17*lj *cn

Vehicle was stopped in front of a residence and in park with foot on the brake pedal. suddenly and without warning the brake pedal went to the floor. upon inspection, there was brake fluid inside the engine compartment and dripping on the street below. vehicle was deemed undriveable and towed to the mechanic. problem was diagnosed as a brake line failure where the line itself was intact, but the rubber hose had come loose from the crimped metal fitting. attached photo show the section of hose that had come loose

City street the car became undrivable had it taken to a shop.

The brake pedal went to the floor and became spongy the breaks for them changed and cannot believe the brakes and it appears that the abs control or under the hood has a stuck valve which causes the brakes not to work

Takata recall my air bag sensor light came on air bags never deployed in my vehicle in an accident i was in in june of 16.i purchased this vehicle with multiple issues the dealership that sold me the car new it was under recall and never fixed the car.it was in and out of shop for abs,gas leak, accelerating by itself now i've burned up 3 calipers keep burning break pads gas is never accurate and there's no light but it still pulls code for abs, also it went in for factory recall and recall was never performed.more than fed up and sick of spending my $.

Break pedal goes to floor no effect until pumped twice. intermittent problem is occurring more often. dealership didn't diagnose cause.

The master brake cylinder/hydraulic pump and control module became faulty and failed at roughly 43000 miles. my mechanic informed me that this is typically a part that should not fail with this few miles and was suspicious when he called the local ford dealer and they had over 10 in stock. he informed me that in his 20+ years he has not seen dealers have that many high dollar parts in stock and advised i file a claim with ford motor. i did file a claim with ford motor but was advised they were not aware of any wider issues with the master brake cylinder/hydraulic pump and control module on my make and model year. ford motor case numbers- cas-8423129 and cas-8428833 i noticed that my master break cylinder failed when i started my car one morning and the break pedal went all the way to the floor. i had my car repaired at my local ford dealer, covert ford in austin, tx.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving various speeds and depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal traveled to the floor of the vehicle. the stopping distance increased. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake cylinder failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 52,046. updated 02/15/2017*ct *tr

When applying the brakes at driving speed (30 mph) on a city street the brake pedal suddenly went to the floor with no resistance and no braking action. the car was stopped using the emergency hand brake. after turning the car off and restarting it, the brakes worked normally. car was towed to a ford dealer for service. the computer brake control unit was replaced by the dealer after reviewing the codes. part number is be5z-2c219. cost was $1120. ford moco says they will not contribute anything to cost reduction and they don't consider it enough of a safety problem to use any customer sat program to help with the cost. they also say no recall is applicable. car mileage is 55,763. 2010 ford fusion hybrid which has always been dealer services at regular intervals.

No one can fix brakes.

There is a problem with my power steering. it failed on me when parallel parking. an error referring to advancetrac appeared on the dash. i had to turn my car off in order to reset it, but i fear it may happen when driving on a freeway.

Car brakes are squishy and pedal is easily pushed to floor when braking at high speed or in panic stop. feels like the brake booster is not operating properly. took to ford and they advised it was operating properly. still does not feel right and takes too long to stop.

In aug. 2010, while leaving home on our canyon road, and on a downhill incline, i stopped without incident to let a couple of cars pass on a narrow stretch. after they passed i tapped the accelerator and slowly (10-15mph) rolled into a 90 degree downhill turn. when i applied the brakes there was no response whatsoever. i quickly pumped the stood on the brake pedal with no results. i had only 2-3 seconds to react and as i began to go straight through the turn i jerked the wheel to the right and rode an earthen bank up and over a boulder that stopped the car. the undercarriage was badly damaged, totaling the car. had i gone straight another 4 feet, i would have gone off of a cliff and onto a highway. the car was always perfectly serviced and had no problems previously. ford did not respond to my complaint.

Unusual wheel vibration on 2010 ford fusion continuous since summer 2015.

I own stated ford. driving on highway rear brake failure. towed to repair garage and rear rotors and pads replaced. cost 380.00 dollars. only have 32,000 miles. we were lucky we were able to pull over to the side of road. this a safety hazard. today my friend called and had the same problem. $360.00 repairs. rotors and pads replace. both incident on major highways..have repair bill and old parts. don't have knowledge to send info as requested.. i am 90 yrs old. thank you. *tr

As has been documented dozens of times on several websites, i too, like others, experienced total brake failure by my 2010 ford fusion. like other documented complaints, i too found that, in a situation where sudden braking is required, i experienced total brake failure. normal braking on roads and streets has not resulted in brake failure for me; however, in the one situation where sudden braking was required, my 2010 ford fusion -- fully serviced solely and regularly (each ~5000 miles) by ford service technicians since its purchase new in 2009, now at 81,000 miles -- i experienced: 1) no braking, 2) no slowing down, 3) no front-end-of-the-vehicle-diving-down when brakes were applied (inertia), 4) no skid marks on the dry pavement -- just utter and complete failure by the braking system in my 2010 ford fusion as i drove around a building (15-20 mph) and suddenly saw, braked, & hit a stationary pick-up truck on the road. at the scene of the crash, upon attaching the 2010 ford fusion with chains, the tow truck driver mentioned that he saw brake failure. following the crash, i had a mechanic go with me to the salvage yard where my auto insurance company had the 2010 ford fusion towed; the mechanic did a 15-20 minute inspection, with a salvage yard employee watching, which indicated that, yes, indeed, the brakes had failed before there was the collision (the area of collision on the front right destroyed the abs area). while there did not appear to be any deficiencies in the brake lines, which were checked regularly by the ford service technicians, there was failure involving the master brake cylinder at the time of sudden braking. rather than being dry or dusty, the mbc was covered completely in goo. not a sign of safety or properly-working parts. despite these truths, my insurance company tells me i have to pay, since there has been no recall issued. why not yet??? *tr

I park on an incline so i normally set my parking brake for safety reasons. november 2014, temperatures had dipped below freezing and i went to release the parking brake to go to work, and i could tell that it did not release all the way. as i was driving i could tell something was holding me back because the car would not accelerate properly. made it to the stop light leaving my neighborhood and the rear right brake seized up entirely. it sounded like i was trying to do a burnout and it had the worst smell. i immediately called the dealership and told them what had happened and a tow truck was called. as they were working on it all they could find wrong was that the right rear brake pad had worn down to nothing and was grinding on my rotor. changed brake pads and they sent me on my way after dropping about $400 on the repair. not even two days later the temps dipped below freezing and the parking brake stuck again. for the next two months i did not use my parking brake and had intermittent problems only when the temperature had dipped below freezing. as of today january 2015, parking brake has not been used but right rear brake has seized up, yet again, the past two days as the temperature has been below freezing. i am terrified to drive this car in fear of the brakes completely failing and causing a collision. i have children and this has been a serious problem. this needs to be investigated. *tr

Rear brake (passenger side) seized up causing rapid brake pad wear, this vehicle has had the rear brakes replaced 4times since new vehicle purchase. *tr

Brake caliper slide will freeze up and grind on brakes and rotors. new brakes and pads were put on 1 year ago and the left rear caliper has completely frozen up. from doing online research this is a severe problem with this make and model and should be investigated. *tr

As i was cresting a hill, the engine briefly seized, the power steering failed, and the advancetrac light came on. everything returned to normal two seconds later, except for the advancetrac light. the light turned off after the next start. multiple times thereafter, when the engine has repeated stops/starts in a short span of time, the advancetrac light comes on and there is a loss of power steering. the power steering returns after idling for a couple of minutes. *tr

The brakes on my 2010 ford fusion go to the floor and i need to pump them continuously to get my car to stop. when it first happened i took it to a shop and they said it did not have brake fluid. i had my brakes flushed and brake fluid added. the brakes were good for about two weeks and then they again went to the floor. i took them into a brake shop and they did a reverse bleed, checked my pads, my abs system, my master cylinder, flushed them again and did not find any leaks or any problems. my brakes worked for about two days and then it happened again. now it is a daily occurrence and i do not know what to do other than replace the m/c which i have been told is not bad. no leaking behind it or around it. i am at a loss. something is wrong with my brakes and i have read that other 2010 ford fusion owners have had this problem. *tr

On june 28, 2014 while backing up my 2010 ford fusion hybrid in a parking lot i had complete brake failure. brakes went to the floor. warning lights did go on as i was backing up. the vehicle was towed. the repair that was done was an "overlay of harness and installation of a cutoff pressure sensor." the part was c jumper wiring. no injuries were sustained. this had never happened before. *js

I was in a line of traffic to turn left at a turn signal. the cars in front of me went when the light turned green. when the light turned yellow, the truck in front of me stopped. i went from accelerating to braking, and the brake was pushed to the floor, but the car was still accelerating. i obviously rear-ended the car in front of me. he said he could see me and let off his brake when he realized my car wasn't stopping. luckily, no one was injured. i have scheduled an appointment to have the car looked at tonight at a dealership. this has happened before without incident, and i thought i was just imagining it. *js

I was driving on the interstate the wrench light came on n the car kinda just got stuck in motion someone almost slammed in the back of me it jerked won't keep gears after i took it to them they said they won't fix it and made it worse and there are recalls on all the stuff that's going wrong with my car and they misdiagnosed what was wrong with it i will n ever purchase from ford again! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while stopped, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the vehicle stalled and the check engine and service engine soon warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the fuel line and flap needed to be cleaned. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. in addition, while driving at an unknown speed, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond without warning. as a result, the vehicle struck a curb and the air bags failed to deploy. a police report was not filed and no injuries were sustained. the vehicle was towed to a dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 34,927.

I have a 2010 ford fusion with 48,000 miles, while driving it i noticed it started to make a grinding noise in the rear. so i took one of the tires off and noticed that the pads were badly worn so i went down to the part store, got new rotors and pads. after installing, i noticed the rotor on the right rear had a large crack on the backside of the rotor just under where the pad hits the rotor. it is almost cracked all around. i am not an engineer, but to me, that is a factory defect and a safety hazard to me and my family; these rotors were in terrible shape for 48,000 miles. one good pot hole, and the whole tire and everything could have came off because of the cracked rotor. there should be a recall for this, thank you for your time. *tr updated 11/10/2014 *js

While sitting at a stop light, the car started accelerating faster and faster. had to turn the car off to get it to stop. next light, the same thing. took it to dealership and they said it was the throttle body, and they replaced it. (recall?) worked ok until 3/27/2014 and pulling into a parking lot, with my foot on the brake to slow down, the car started accelerating again. i turned the car off to get it to stop. glad i wasn't on a highway or interstate when this happened. going back to dealership tomorrow, as i consider this a dangerous problem. *tr

Lr brake froze up due to corrosion not allowing caliper to slide properly, causing excessive wear and damage to brake rotor. *tr

Brake pedal goes to floor, used emergency brake to avoid rear end accident, dealer claims metal brake line failure due to crimp from factory install. location of fault was under air conditioning unit. dealer ordered new line from tennessee, took a week, rental car $200 and line replacement $488. i suspect earlier rear brake issue was caused by this factory installed crimp. *tr

I was in stop and go traffic and encountered a hard braking situation. i slammed on the brakes and met no resistance from the brake pedal. the brake pedal went to the floor with no abs engaging. i never even got a squeal of the brakes working. i was at least a car length back when i slammed on the brakes. i ended up hitting the car in front, they in turn hit the car in front of them. ironically i was the only one hurt from this crash. i fractured my foot from hitting the brake so hard. i can't imagine this is a normal brake function. i bought this car as a certified used car with 4000 miles in november 2013. i haven't had my first service since the purchase. road conditions bare, flat surface and downhill. weather around 30 degrees and some light fog. i will return to dealer to inspect brakes. *tr

The parking brake on my manual 2010 ford fusion will freeze in place in temperatures below freezing. while the parking brake is disengaged and the indicator light goes off, the pads remain in contact with the rear tire, causing excessive heat, threat of fire, loss of emergency braking, or loss of control. this also causes excessive and premature wear / damage to the affected braking system. this problem is well documented online by ford owners in northern climates. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated the brake line failed when she put her vehicle in drive. the vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic with the emergency brake on. the mechanic diagnosed that the brake line had to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

Noticed a noise in the rear end of our car in december. made appointment asap with dealership we purchased car at. noise was worse on drive to dealership. informed rear brakes were metal on metal. had brake pads and rear rotors replaced and they ground down and fixed rear slides. on 03/18/2013 brakes were good with 22,454 miles. lug nuts were replaced on 02/28/2012 because of 11s23 recall. feel because car was built in mexico there was a defect in the rear brake disc and they were incorrectly built. we approached the ford dealership and regional customer service and they told it was normal wear and tear. not acceptable. i told them i would complain to your agency. brakes should last much longer-very premature wearing. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion hybrid. the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the brakes failed to respond. the contact stated that the brake and traction control warning lights were both illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. the technician advised the contact that he was unable to confirm that the repair would rectify the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 65,000.

Power steering failure while driving. ford advanctrak awd failure. total loss of stability/traction control, abs, and steering. *tr

Parking brake handle would not release brakes and was totally loose. brakes were locked up, but after going in reverse it finally released. since then if weather is below freezing brake lever cannot be moved at all. if weather is above freezing it seems to work but we are afraid to use it for fear of locking up. some owner input was found on internet saying that the cable boots were possibly worn and water gets into the mechanism and prevents lever from operating. seems to be a common ford fusion problem this time of year. contacted ford and they had no input on problem. i will have it looked at by independent repair shop as the local dealer service dept. is a thief. in meantime i cannot use the parking brake. warranty is over but i think ford should attend to this problem as it is clearly a dangerous defect. *tr

I was attempting to stop in normal, flowing traffic when my car pedal went straight to the floor. it resulted in my car crashing into another car that wa--at least--the length of three cars in front of me. there was no resistance at all when i applied the brakes (while the car was in a stopped position). the officer on the scene said that he tried it and they were fine; however, the only thing keeping the car from rolling off the tow truck and into another car was the hand brake. i want. *tr

The car was inspected by the dealer at 40,000 miles and braking system was rated green ("the pads are okay"). when the car was next serviced at 47,387 miles (within the regular service interval) the left rear brake caliper had frozen, causing the pad to be worn to bare metal. i am worried because brakes are a major safety component, the drag may have damaged the wheel bearing, and i have read (fordfusionforum.com) of many instances exactly like my own that have led to recurring problems of rear brake failure. *tr

I brought my car in for a routine inspection. with only 32,459 miles (mostly highway) i wasn't expecting any problems. my mechanic found that my brakes were so rusted that the rear ones were fused together with rust. he was as surprised by this as i was. i saw the parts and have used this shop for years. he never saw anything like it in a car with such low mileage. has to be a design flaw, and potentially very dangerous. so $900.00 later, i still have to worry that this will happen again. i doubt i'm the only one with this problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that that the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond. as a result, the contact crashed into the rear of another vehicle. the contact stated that the failure occurred on multiple occasions. the contact crashed twice due to the failure. the contact sustained a fractured right foot. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.

Rear brake pads worn out at 21000 miles. manual transmission so parking brake must be used whenever parked. front brakes almost no wear. also we have cold weather here. ?*tr

The parking brake freezes in freezing weather. you can still lower (release) the parking brake handle, the warning light in the dash would go off, but the rear right brake stays engaged. this leaves the driver to believe that the brake has been released when in fact it hasn't. this happened to me this past winter. the car felt sluggish as if it was dragging something. about 10 minutes into driving we smelled a burnt smell and heard a metal popping noise from the rear right wheel. we stopped at a gas station to find out what was happening. the right rear brake was burning hot, the burnt smell was very strong, and it continued to make the metal popping noise as it was expanding due to the excessive heat. we had the car towed to the dealer and was told that this problem has to do with the design of the parking brake cable. we were also told to not use the parking brake in winter or it likely would happen again. this is a safety issue that ford needs to address on because it can lead to the car catches fire. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact was driving approximately 70 mph and depressed the brake pedal, which abnormally traveled to the floorboard. the brake warning light also illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact applied the emergency brake to stop the vehicle and shut the engine off. after restarting the vehicle the failure recurred. the contact applied the emergency brakes and shut the engine off a second time. the contact restarted the vehicle and did not experience any further braking issues. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 58,000.

My ford fusion was parked in the parking lot while shopping. temperature approximately 15 degrees f. before going into the store, i had set the parking brake, as the car was parked on a slight incline. upon exiting the store and restarting the vehicle, i disengaged the parking brake. however, the right rear brake did not disengage. instead, a loud grinding sound occurred. the brake eventually disengaged, but by this time, the brake rotor was extremely hot. this had occurred one time previously, also on a cold day when the parking brake was set. the vehicle was taken into the dealership, and the dealer confirmed that the right rear rotor had overheated and been damaged. pads and rotors were replaced. upon picking the car up from the dealership, i drove approximately 3 miles to home, and when i exited the car, the right rotor was very hot and the smell of burning brakes was present in the garage. the left rotor was cool enough that i could place a hand on it for an extended period of time. i was unable to even momentarily touch the right rotor. in this particular case, i had not engaged the parking brake, as the vehicle was picked up from the dealership and the parking brake was not engaged. vehicle had previously had brake pads and rotors replaced only 13000 miles previously (38000 miles) due to excessive rear brake pad / rotor wear. *tr

The vehicle lost power steering, traction control, and brakes upon entering the freeway on ramp. to stop the vehicle and endangering other drivers, i was forced to crash into the concrete wall barrier on the drivers side of the on ramp. there were no warning lights on the dashboard until after coming to a stop and the engine died. at that point the warning lights came on. *tr

Got off the expressway and while stopped at light smelled "something". 3 blocks later at my house i felt the heat from the rear wheels on my legs and realized the smell was from rear brakes. jacked up both rear wheels and found the wheels almost immovable. rear pads worn down to 2-3mm! front pads still had 10mm of pad remaining on all four pads! no problem (or use of) with parking brake. calibers had been sticking - dragging for quite some time to wear down to almost nothing while leaving front brakes with years left on them. car was still in warranty. *tr

Pushing hard on the brake pedal causes it to go below the gas pedal letting my foot push both the gas and brake pedals at the same time. *tr
