Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that when the ignition was turned to the on position, the check engine warning indicator and the fuel inlet warning indicator illuminated continuously. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel inlet filler neck was leaking and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v793000 (fuel system, gasoline). the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000. updated 04/29/16*lj
Fuel tank started leaking fuel when the tank is filled above 1/2 on the passenger side. ford repair shop found a tank defect on the bend of the upper tank flange, stress fracture along the flange that is not normal wear and tear but in my and the repair shop's opinion is a defective tank. i am filing a complaint with ford as in my over 40 years of owning many vehicles of several brands, never had a tank leak - one vehicle i have has 340k miles with no leaks. i see from research on the internet that this problem is not isolated to just me. ford - improve your quality before i buy another vehicle from you! this is an extremely dangerous condition.....updated 10/27/15*bf

My 2010 ford fusion developed a gas leak on august 1 2015. the leak was a constant drip coming from the gas tank. i immediately took my car to the repair shop to be fixed. after reviewing the gas tank, i was told by the repair shop that the metal gas tank was corroding at the seams and had corroded almost all the way through in one area(passenger side). the gasoline was seeping through the corroded seam in multiple areas. i was also told the metal tank did not have a weather coating to prevent corrosion. i was very surprised and frustrated that a five year old car has a gas tank that corroded through and leaked gasoline. this is a huge safety issue and ford needs to have a recall....updated 10/27/15 *bf updated 11/03/15.*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. a day after refueling the vehicle, there was a fuel odor coming from the vehicle and there was a puddle of fuel coming from the fuel tank. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the seam of the fuel tank had become undone and needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired due to the part not being available. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 63,000. updated 7/16/15*cn

Noticed fuel smell and fuel on ground after filling up car. took car to dealership and they checked under the car and said the gas tank may have a crack on the top. suggested to only fill up half way and tank should not leak. we filed a complaint with ford and are waiting for reply. *tr
I was driving on an interstate going 70+ mph when my gas peddle stopped working, it would not make my car accelerate. the rpms dropped down to 1000-1500 and my car immediately started to slow down. i pulled to the side of the road and as i slowed down the car jumped and acted like it was stalling out. the wrench light on the dash also illuminated. i put the car in park and turned off the ignition, thinking that my car was broken down and i was going to have to get it towed. i thought to restart the car and when i did, it ran fine. until 3 days later when it repeated the same symptoms, 3 times in one day. it has now been a week and i have had countless times where this has happened, many times on the interstate, or busy roads. just today in a 2 mile stretch this happened 4 times! *tr
I was driving at 35 mph when i lost the throttle. the engine kept running but without acceleration. i pulled into a parking lot restarted and continued. the next day while driving 55 mph at the intersection of two merging expressways the throttle stopped working. i was able to stop in the vee just as the expressways merged. it was extremely dangerous. had it happened 200 yards ahead i may have been stuck in the middle lane of the road. ford fixed the problem but i am afraid that an inexperienced driver could have had a fatal accident. this is too dangerous an occurrence not to have a recall. *tr
I am filing this complaint in hopes that ford will be forced to issue a recall regarding the dangerous acceleration issue the fusions are having. my car will lose power when driving. i have to press the gas pedal almost to the floor to get the car to accelerate once i have lost power and the car jerks and sputters. the issue began on june 3, 2014 and worsened today, june 4, 2014. i do not have any check engine lights or wrenches. i have only traveled back roads and have not driven the car at a high speed due to fear of having an accident. i have read multiple complaints regarding a throttle body issue. so, i am taking my car to a ford dealership on tomorrow, june 5th to have my similar issue diagnosed. i am concerned because the service advisor said that the extended warranty will only be for an update to my power train system; which is not what i read in the letter. i want to have my throttle body replaced and the power train update so to prevent any future and more dangerous failures. i am also fearful because of the 'one-time' repair program, i will be out of luck and a bunch of money should my throttlebody fail after the power train update. *tr
When our vehicle a 10'ford fusion sel sedan started this the vehicle would start to shake and die when the speed would exceed forty mph then after a couple days of not bein able to drive over forty mph the vehicle would not go at all it would start and jerk and die to the point that the vehicle could not be driven. *tr
It started out that when i filled up my fuel tank i would try to start the vehicle and it would not start, i would have to try several times then it would start. it then started shaking and idling rough when i came to a stop. then as i was driving on the interstate it just died. i would pull over and start again then would die. i had to have it towed to dealer and they told me it was the vapor lock that went bad which in turn caused gas to get into my oil. they also stated that this part caused fuel to get into the vapor canister. research has showed me that several ford fusion with the cap less fuel has caused several problems. they have since stated they have upgraded the cap less gas tank but what about the 2010. it ended up costing me 700 for both parts but the issue that caused the problem is still there. please help..... *tr
While driving my vehicle it suddenly felt like it stalled, but it actually had not. before i could safely pull off the road it began violently jerking the whole car. gas and brake controls were effected and the car was difficult to get off the road safely and difficult to stop it from moving forward once i got off the road. i quickly put it in park and turned it off. the check engine light came on as well as a wrench light during this incident. after about 5 minutes i turned the car back on and it seemed to be running fine. i started to drive to the body shop i use and after a couple minutes it did it again in the middle of an intersection. the car was extremely difficult to control and i was scared i would be hit by another car. after making it off the road again, i turned the car off. i eventually did get it to my body shop, but the defective throttle body could have resulted in a serious accident. ford should recall this part and fix it! *tr
The gas tank hisses and the car begins to die when the car is sitting idol. the manual states to shut the car off and relieve the pressure by pushing the cap of where you would put the fuel in this does not fix the issue. when gas is put into the car to refill the tank the car does not start instantly. the ignition cont. to turn over and it takes several times of turning the key to get the car to start. after gas is put in the car the car runs slow the service engine light stays on and the car continues to jerk and die when the car stops for lights or to turn. *tr
Traveling on i-10 near beaumont tx, with cruise control on when the car suddenly lost power/speed. i pulled off the freeway, tachometer jumping and with brakes and steering working. i could not get idle to steady, wrench light on; so i shut down engine. restarted was slow but i was able to continue normal driving. next morning took it to kinsel ford dealer, they checked it out friday and found no issues. yesterday may 3rd it happened again. knowing the posted throttle body issues, kinsel should not have sent me on a 7 hour trip back to dallas!!! this almost got me killed. *tr
Smelled gas and saw leak from top of tank down side of tank by passenger side rear wheel. mechanic dropped the tank and said a split occurred on a seam through no fault of corrosion. he believes it to a manufacturer defect. all the vehicles i have owned never had a leaking gas tank from corrosion or otherwise. *tr
Car started to lose power and speed while driving. pressing the gas barely made it go for a few hundred feet, then it died. on busy highway, but was able to make it to side street and push past a drive way. restarted and was able to drive another couple of miles. after about 1.5 hours of waiting, it died 2x while driving about 2 miles home. this has happened before (a couple of years ago) to this same vehicle (taken to dealer at least 2x for the problem). based on what i read today online, it sounds like the "throttle body". trying to get the car to the dealer tomorrow. *tr
Traveling at speed in heavy traffic, the car shook and i lost all power. i was able to make it to the side of the road although several people had to swerve around me as i was going uphill and lost speed quickly. the "wrench" warning light was on. while the car would idle, nothing would happen when i pressed the accelerator. i shut off the car and was able to restart it. everything seemed fine and no warning light. i made it home safely with no more incidents and discovered many other people have experienced the same issue. i will be calling the dealer tomorrow to determine options for part replacement. i am very lucky that i was able to make it to the side of the road and not cause an accident considering the traffic situation. this should be a recall item! *tr
My 2010 ford fusion stalled many times last weekend. i pulled the car over to the side of the road, put it in park, and turned it off and back on, and it ran fine to get me home. i had no further problems with it until today, roughly a week later. it stalled on me twice at speed, and i had to pull over, turn it off, and restart the engine, upon which it ran fine. each time it stalled, the wrench icon lit up on the dashboard after it stalled, but did not stay on once the engine was restarted. today after the third stall, i noticed the car was kind of jerking as i pulled it to a stop, but as i pressed the gas nothing happened. i was told by ford that this is the throttle position sensor (tps). this switch almost got me killed in heavy traffic more than once and it's a matter of time before someone get killed because ford has yet to recall this part!!! *tr
My wife was driving home on the freeway at 3:30 pm during heavy rush hour traffic. without any warning the car quickly started jerking and slowed down from 55 mph to less than 20 mph. she tried to accelerate, but the car would not. unfortunately, my wife was in the middle lane of heavy traffic and she had to quickly maneuver to the right shoulder where she placed the car in park and shut it off. even when the car was initially placed in park it continued to jerk until the engine was shut-off. she indicated that the car ride felt similar to a mechanical bull with all the jerking motion. needless to say my wife was petrified with driving our car and feared for her life with the heavy traffic! after a few minutes she started the car and it appeared fine for her to drive (10 miles) home. when she got home we called the local ford dealer and scheduled an appointment. they determined that it was a bad throttle body and cost over $600 for the repair which is outrageous since we have less than 26,000 actual mileage. this was a very scary and unsafe situation. we are so thankful that my wife didn't have a car accident. we are concerned that ford motor company is aware of this safety problem and they are not being proactive to correct it. will this be another toyota camry tragedy with people getting hurt and / or killed in car accidents before this problem gets corrected?????????? *tr
Driving on straight away about 35 to 40 mph. lost power in the middle of the road with no time to pull over ,push on gas pedal nothing happened motor never died completely but had no power to move.then put shifter into park shut off vehicle waited a minute then restarted it ,ran fine after this for this 5 mile trip, but this is happening every different trip made ,every day, sometimes more than once a trip ,at different speeds. *tr
Driving on highway at approximately 60 mph when all power to the engine was lost. the vehicle decelerated quickly as i pulled over to the side of the road. an orange "wrench" light was illuminated on the dash, but no check engine light. engine was idling roughly and a loud misfiring sound was coming from the exhaust. no matter how hard i pushed the gas pedal, i could not get above 3 mph. i re-started the car, and the engine ran normally. however, the messages "service advancetrac" and "check brake system" appeared on the screen while two yellow traction control lights and the red brake light were illuminated. upon restarting the vehicle once more, both of these indicators were gone. i was able to drive safely to the dealer who didn't perform any diagnostics nor drive the vehicle, but was still "90% sure" that the problem is the throttle body. ford does not cover the throttle body under the 5 yr/60,000 mi powertrain warranty, nor will my aftermarket "exclusionary coverage" warranty by portfolio. the estimated cost to install a new throttle body is $321 without diagnostics. no repair has been done yet at this time, as i am waiting to hear back from ford motor company as well as the dealer that sold me the vehicle used. *tr
While driving my 2010 ford fusion i experienced something i was at a red light. while driving my car shook heavy 3 times i suddenly pulled over to check out the problem i pulled off after pulling over the problem occurred again then it suddenly accelerated in its own i applied the brake then tried to accelerate but my car didn't move i accelerated one more time my car then shook then took off. i found a forum website called fordfusion.net even on the motor trend website several people speak of once having this problem i'm having with my ford fusion ford doesn't want to do anything about it because they said i'm not under warranty i feel i shouldn't have to pay for something that was once on recall with this car i work and i'm in grad school my car is a must have for me i don't know what to do i even informed ford that their was several people on a website online that complained about the same problem even after the problem was fixed this is my first vehicle i've owned i'm in disbelief and really regret purchasing a ford car please help me. *tr
Going down 4 lane road at 45-50 mph. vehicle lost power & idle ability. shut it off & after a few minutes, it started up again but continued to repeat this malfunction several times. dealer checked codes & replaced electronic throttle body control & emissions purge valve. informed that this was common problem, but not covered by warranty. *tr
The car started to run rough, the engine light went on, there was no response to the gas pedal. i had enough speed to move to the shoulder. i turned off the car and the issue seemed to resolve itself. i happened two more times in the last three miles to my house. *tr
I was driving northbound on interstate 5 in seattle when i suddenly felt a "tug" and lost all power to the engine and the "wrench" light came on. i was able to maneuver to the right-hand lane where the car lost all power to the engine and died in the middle of the high bridge. the electrical remained on. a state trooper pushed us off the highway and i had the car toward towed. my mechanic replaced the battery but a month later (dec. 15) the same thing happened again in nearly the same location (montlake exit of i-5 northbound). this time i was able to start it back up and drive it home. the dealer (autonation in bellevue) diagnosed a faulty throttle body. this is very similar to incidents being investigated by nhtsa per a report in usa today: http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2013/02/25/probe-ford-cars-suvs-stalling/1945799/. *tr
We were traveling on highway at 65 mph when suddenly lost power, car was shuttering and "wrench" light came on. since we were going uphill at the time, we lost speed incredibly fast but managed to make it out of traffic lane and onto the shoulder. the car was turned off and then after a minute it restarted and ran ok but we're afraid that it isn't safe to drive until this problem is fixed. it would appear to be a faulty throttle body. *tr
I was driving south on coburg road about 10:00 am this morning and the car started to rock front and back and my speed suddenly dropped. i went from about 25 mph to drifting and about 2 to 5 mph in traffic. i coasted and turned at the next intersection and pulled over. all of a sudden a warning light came on to check the engine. i was able to restart the car and drive about 3 miles to the ford dealership. this happened 3 times on the way to the shop. the total cost was about $350 and i was told that it wasn't covered under warranty. i was told it was the throttle body. we have 2 ford fusions and i am concerned that the same thing will happen to the 2012 while my wife is driving. extremely unsafe. *tr
Driving to work approx 40 mph, car began to sputter like it was running out of gas, but had 3/4 tank. wrench light lit up and lost acceleration immediately in the middle of an intersection. was able to coast to the side of the road. put car in neutral and tried to rev the engine - thinking maybe dirt in fuel line or fuel filter. no luck. the car did not stall, so i put in back in gear and was able to limp at negligible speed thanks to a slight downgrade to a parking lot nearby. after shutting off and restarting the car it seemed to run normally but i didn't want to risk driving it and stalling somewhere more dangerous. had it towed to the dealership. awaiting their diagnostics. sounds an awful lot like the other documented throttle body issues. *tr
Driving approximately 70mph at night on the interstate when engine stopped producing power. rough idle and vibration, forcing me to coast to the shoulder. pressing gas pedal had no effect even though engine was running. i attempted to restart and was successful. this occurred four times during my 30 mile trip. each time i was forced to coast to the side of the road during moderate traffic. once on a side street i was forced to stop in the driving lane as there was no shoulder. very dangerous. on all of the occasions the wrench light illuminated as well as the check engine light. i called the dealer the next morning and they were very familiar with the problem. my car was out of warranty, so i was forced to pay for the part and labor. ford knows that there is a faulty part that causes a hazardous loss of power and control of the vehicle. error code was p2111. *tr
Driving along at normal highway speed the vehicles jerked once and then did not respond to pressing the gas pedal. as i coasted to side of the road, i noticed the rpm gauge sputtering between 500-1100 rpm. as i stopped the vehicle it began to shake. i turned off the ignition and restarted it. i drove another 5 miles and the problem recurred. this happened twice more before i arrived at my job at different speeds. *tr
My wife was driving home from work on interstate 85, she was in the middle lane, 70 mph at rush hour, a wrench light came on and the car lost all power, she almost got rear ended, and could barely get the car to the side of the road, it did start again after a few minutes, she got it to the dealer, they told her it was the throttle body, which had gone bad. *tr
Transmission fluid leaks seal at left cv joint. i took it to have it serviced due to slipping/ jerking when changing gears. total of repairs cost me over $500.00, 4 days later, seal is broken again and needs to be replaced again. ford needs to recall this vehicle...after seeing hundreds of exact same issue! *tr
During the month of september, my car began suddenly shutting off while i was driving. this happened multiple times on the highway and surface roads. i would pull over, turn the car off and wait a few minutes. the car would work fine afterwards. i first had the battery checked which revealed a bad battery, i had it replaced. the car continued to have symptoms after the new battery was installed. i also noticed the stalling happened more when i filled the gas tank completely. i finally took the car back to the place i purchased it for diagnostics. i discovered that the throttle body was defective. i was told by a tech that the manufacturer had assembled new throttle bodies to replace the originals as the original throttle body did not work properly. apparently, the intake was not opening/closing properly therefore the engine was not getting enough gas at times. the shop was able to pull codes from the previous stall events, p2111 & p2112. they replaced the throttle body assembly, ~ $300.00. i see many complaints regarding this issue and expect/hope a recall will be issued in the near future. as a side note, my abs light was on as well. there was a known recall on the driver's side air bag assembly, shorted to ground. ford replaced the air bag assembly at no charge. i hope this information is helpful. *tr
I was driving south on i-95 in northern florida doing 73 mph.. my vehicle suddenly lost all power and would not respond to pressure on the gas pedal. the highway was under construction at the time and i had to make an emergency maneuver between safety cones to pull over to the shoulder. the dashboard displayed two warnings: a 'wrench' figure and the engine trouble light. i restarted the vehicle and tried to resume my journey. the same thing happened one minute later and i again had to make a desperate turn onto the shoulder. i had my vehicle towed to a ford dealer. after they checked the vehicle they told me the message that came up indicated the 'throttle body' needed replacement. the repair was not covered under their 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty! i have since found out this part has been very problematic for this make/model. i believe this part should be covered and a recall issued. this part failure at highway speed causing a total loss of power is very dangerous and put my life in danger. please help me and other ford fusion owners. *tr
While driving at approximately 30 miles per hour in my neighborhood, the vehicle lost power and would no longer accelerate. it felt as if the car had violently run out of gas. this caused me to stop rather quickly. i turned the ignition off, waited 3 minutes, and started the car again. at this point, i was able to drive the 0.5 miles back to my home. i took the car to the dealership and the throttle assembly body failed and needed replacement. i was informed that this is a pretty common thing with ford fusions. total bill was $598. *tr
Tried to start vehicle after filling up on gas, already had about 1/4 tank prior to fill up, recently driving for several miles (car is warmed up fully) and it immediately stalled. this had never happened to me, and it occurred to me that just before the gas fill up i noticed somewhat rough engine response in a very short drive from across the street. i've read that there are issue with throttle body faults on fusion and escape that do not log under normal odb 2 codes after turning engine off. i never saw the check engine light come on. *tr
Car would not accelerate, wrench symbol displayed. had to be towed. dtc code p2111 (throttle body had to be replaced). 6 weeks out of warranty as not covered by powertrain extended warranty. *tr
Driving down interstate and lost all throttle response. fortunately was able to pull over to the side and turn car off. re-started and was able to make it home. p2111 error code; sounds exactly the same as hundreds of other complaints about these models. mechanics all say the same thing, faulty throttle body and needs replacement. someone needs to step in at some point and force ford to issue a recall. *tr
Driving 75mph on highway vehicle suddenly without warning or signals stalls. the vehicle dropped the speed from 75mph to 10mph as i continuously was trying to accelerate the speed but was unsuccessful. the code of p211 throttle body is defective & thank god no vehicle was behind me cause it could of caused a tremendous crash accident. *tr
At the end of an interstate on ramp, the ford fusion clunked, stalled, and the wrench light came on. it was in a very dangerous place. lots of honking that i could do nothing about. after turning the car off and back on a couple of times, i was able to get it to a less dangerous place. towed it to the ford garage where they replaced the throttle body. *tr
We were driving approximately 65 mph when the car suddenly started to decelerate at a rapid pace and eventually stalled. we noticed a wrench light on the dashboard as we pulled the car over. after restarting the car we were able to drive a couple of miles before the same thing would occur. after a couple more times of having to pull over and restart the car the check engine light also came on. thankfully we were able to get to a family members house as we were approx 90 miles from home. the code we pulled from the car was p2111.....indicative of this infamous throttle body problem in this make and model. we ended up having to get towed to the nearest dealership 35 miles away.....yet another 35 from our home. thankfully this was covered under our extended warranty plan from ford. a coworker of mine had the exact same issue about 6 months ago....same make/model/year. luckily the highway we were on wasn't busy at the time the car stalled repeatedly. i don't see how this can't be a recall...... *tr
I was approximately 2 miles from my starting point traveling at a speed of 55 mph. suddenly, the 2010 ford fusion lurched while shifting into overdrive. when it lurched all ability to accelerate was lost. with cars on each side, i had no ability to accelerate; i lost speed quickly and worked my way to the side of the road (very dangerous situation). i immediately noticed the 'wrench symbol warning light on the dashboard, but did not know what that warning signified. during the loss of acceleration, the car did not lose power steering and it remained running, but the engine was sputtering and not idling at a steady pace. when i got to the side of the road, i put the car in park and tried to 'rev' up the engine, but i had absolutely no control of the throttle. the wrench light was still on. i then turned off the ignition and waited about 1 minute then restarted. the car again had no acceleration ability and sputtered which sounded very much like a cough. i turned the car off again and called for assistance. approximately 5 minutes later, when assistance arrived, i started the car again. at this time, the wrench warning light was off and the car appeared to idle normally. upon research, i found that the wrench symbol means: throttle control/transmission problem. the driver of the car should contact the authorized dealer for service as soon as possible. *tr
The rpms on the car surged and then that car shut off, and would only stay running for 15 seconds afterward. the autoshop is have to replace the throttle body. *tr
Driving on roadway making a turn when car began to buck & stall out. car would not go over 1000 rpm. gas pedal would not respond. car would not go over 5mph. made it to a parking lot. called a tow truck & had the car towed to dealership. they called & let me know that the throttle body was defective & had to be replaced. car just has 66,000 miles luckily we weren't on the highway when this occurred could have had an accident. *tr
The throttle body on my 2010 ford fusion se failed. my car lost power and stalled out four times while driving in traffic. i have replaced the part and would certainly like to see ford recall this part. *tr
