Problems with 2010 Ford Fusion ENGINE

On average, the 2010 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 60 342 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

Since i have owned the car it would occasionally fail to start on the first turn of the key. the engine would crank for 5+ seconds until i turned the key to the "off" position, removed the key and tried again. it would always start on the second try... just recently (beginning of june 2013) i noticed my tachometer was going from 7000 to 4000rpm at stop signs and traffic lights but the car never stalled. on 6/26/13 after accelerating from a stop sign to about 30 mph the car lost power, the wrench light came on but the car did not stall. i gradually pulled off to the side of the road with my hazards on trying not to cause alarm to the vehicles behind me. i put the car in park, turned the ignition key off and removed the key for 10-20 seconds and restarted the car. everything seemed to be ok so i drove the car home. on 6/27/13 i drove my car approximately 100 miles to my destination without any problems but on the way back i was 20 miles into my return trip and driving at approximately 65mph on the garden state parkway when i experienced the same exact problem from the day before (yesterday). this time i was in heavy rush hour traffic coming out of nyc. i was very fortunate to get to the shoulder of the gsp. again i waited 10-20 seconds and restarted. the idle was rough for a few seconds but was fine after that so i merged back onto the heavily congested road. after another 20-30 miles the car failed for the 3rd time. this time i was able to get to the shoulder easily because i stayed in the right lane knowing a power loss was just a matter of time. i have been fortunate so far because the car has started back up and it was still daylight. my fear is traveling at night on a road without a shoulder which i do a lot and not getting it started. *tr

Driving down interstate at 70 miles per hour in far left lane when vehicle unexpectedly loses power. accelerator pedal completely unresponsive, and engine speed drops to approximately 800 rpm. i had to quickly maneuver across two lanes, which were occupied by tractor trailers to get to right shoulder. came extremely close to having a major accident during heavy traffic which would have certainly involved 15-20 vehicles due to sudden onset and heavy traffic. vehicle idled extremely rough upon stop. vehicle would restart and operate normally for an unknown amount of time, then the same issue would happen again. this appears to be a very common problem for ford fusions built prior to late 2011 and ford escapes. this is a very dangerous malfunction, and a recall should absolutely be issued. online research has a consensus that the problem is a bad throttle body. there are hundreds and hundreds, if not thousands, of the exact same problem from these vehicles. i have been very satisfied with this vehicle until this point. *tr

Vehicle stalled, wrench light on dash lit. i went to side of road, depressed accelerator but engine did not respond. idled only, idle was rough , engine jerked. after 2 minutes i turned engine off then started the engine with normal result, wrench light was off and vehicle idled normally. i drove 20miles home. will take vehicle to dealer 6/26, i believe this is a dangerous occurrence as stalling at a higher speed in traffic could be deadly. *tr

I was driving in heavy city traffic at approximately 55 miles per hour, when the car suddenly lost all power. the engine felt "disconnected" from the transmission. i could push the gas pedal all i wanted, but there was no response from the engine. the car continued to roll under it's own momentum, but because of the sudden loss of power, i was very nearly rear-ended by the car behind me. i was in the left lane, and because i was coasting down to a stop quickly, my only choice was to pull into the center turn lane of the 5-lane road. traffic continued to speed past me as i stopped in the center lane. as i stopped, the engine ran incredibly roughly. it was stumbling and missing like it wasn't getting enough air. there was a yellow wrench icon on my dashboard, but no "check engine light". i shut down, waited a minute, and refired the car. the car ran perfectly smoothly after that. i did some checking, and it appears to be a throttle body problem. it appears to be very widespread on 2010 and 2011 ford's. please make them recall this. it's a huge safety concern. i'm lucky it was just me in the car, and i knew what to do. what if my wife and baby were in the car, and she wasn't as lucky? what if the guy behind me wasn't as quick on his brakes?? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph the vehicle decelerated. the failure occurred three different times intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated the electronic throttle body would have to be replaced. the manufacture was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 63,000. *tr

While traveling aprox 65mph down a 4 lane hwy at 6:20 am on 6/24/13, my car began to decelerate and would not respond/accelerate when the gas pedal was pressed. the red "wrench" light lit up on the information center on the dash board. i managed to get the car to the side of the road before it finally cut off. i waited a minute or two and tried attempted to restart the engine and it restarted successfully. i was able to cautiously continue driving until i reached a ford dealership later that morning at which point they told me it the throttle body. they went on to say that ford was not covering this repair and that there was no recall in effect! this repair cost me $300 of which i could not spare from my budget! thankfully there were no cars or tractor trailer behind when my car began to decelerate! this needs to be a safety recall immediately, before many people are killed!!!! *tr

While driving on interstate highway @ 70 mph with cruise control engaged, without warning, the cruise control disengaged, the engine decelerated suddenly, and the 'wrench' warning light on the instrument panel illuminated. i coasted to the shoulder of the road. the engine was running at very low rpm (500 - 600 rpm). the car shuddered while the a/t was in drive - the shudder stopped when the a/t was shifted to n or park. the engine speed did not respond to pressing the accelerator. cut off engine and shut off all electric accessories. car restarted and ran the remainder of the day. incident repeated itself the following day at exactly the same location (and thus under nearly identical driving conditions - throttle, torque, speed, engine rpm, etc). i replaced electronic throttle body (etb) based on recommendations from mechanic, ford dealer service desk, and numerous anecdotal accounts found on search of internet of nearly identical episodes with other fusion owners. the etb i removed from the car had a uniform layer of dark combustion deposits on the butterfly. *tr

While driving the vehicle would lose all power and would not respond to the acceleration pedal. it would require pulling to the side of the road and shutting the engine off for 3-5 minutes before being able to continue. this happened 7-10 times in the same day. the "check engine" light finally came on and stayed on. we took it into the nearest auto parts store who ran it through the computer and it was the "throttle position sensor" which required replacing the entire "throttle body". this nearly caused a wreck every time it happened. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled as the wrench warning lamp illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 71,000.

The car on multiple occasions would suddenly stop and would stall out or not allow any acceleration . battery would die while driving car would violently shake. throttle body was replaced in the summer of 2013 in december of 2013 we started having similar problems again with the shaking and stalling out. the throttle body needs replaced for the second time in less then 1 year. no accidents occurred but i could see this leading to accident injury or even death if this occurred on a highway. luckily we have always been on side roads when the engine has given out. ford is aware of this issue on this model of car this needs to be addressed and a recall needs to happen i have read hundreds of reviews since i began having issues and almost every single one has the same complaint about the throttle body this is not fair to the consumers who might purchase this car unknowingly and risk their safety everyone else's safety on the road and pay out of pocket hundreds of dollars for a known defect! *tr

My wife was driving the car and it lost power and as she described "it started to buck". there was little response and the orange wrench light came on. she turned off the car and started it back up. the car was fine and a couple miles down the road the check engine light came on and it did it again. she turned the car off and started it again. she was able to get it home. i looked at it the following day and contacted my local ford dealer. speaking to a technician, he told me a diagnostic probably wouldn't bring anything up since the lights were now off and the computer had reset itself. on sunday june 30th, 2013, i was driving approximately 55 mph when i pressed the accelerator to switch lanes and there was no response from the engine. the orange wrench light came on and my wife told me that that's exactly what had happened to her. fortunately, there was little traffic and i was able to coast to a nearby parking lot. i turned the car off and let it sit for about 5 minutes. when i started it back up, it idled rough and quickly smoothed out. it sounds like there are many similar issues with the throttle body on this vehicle. i stopped reading after 55 reports all listing the same issue. a recall should be placed on this part since it causes a high hazard/major safety issue. *tr

Traveling on the freeway this morning, when my vehicle suddenly slows to a crawl, and i lose power to the gas pedal. i just miss being hit by a semi-tractor which had been behind me. i was able to motion my car across three lanes to the side of the freeway. after shutting the vehicle off, and restarting the vehicle it seemed to run normal until about 50 miles down the road when the same thing happened again. i am afraid to drive the car at this point. dealership claims they are now sure what the cause is, but have seen this numerous times. *tr

I was driving on a highway going about 40 and the car stalled and lost all power with no response to pressing the pedal. it was idling very rough and the wrench light and check engine light came on. i shut the car off and restarted and it seemed fine until i got on the interstate. while driving on the interstate it stalled around 15 times in 20 miles. it stalled going 75 mph a few times and also stalled countless times in traffic when i was stopped and tried to accelerate. this was very scary and is an extremely dangerous issue. on the way home i experienced the same problem and rode with my hazards on in fear of being rear-ended. *tr

2010 ford fusion sel 2.5l automatic purchased in yonge/steeles ford lincoln in canada. during normal driving, wrench light will suddenly be on: - cannot accelerate, speed cannot go beyond 60km/h, rpm cannot go beyond 2000 - sometimes vehicle will suddenly loose power and slow down. almost got rear-ended a few times. - managed to pull over, stop the car, and restart, sometimes the problem will disappear after restart, sometimes the problem comes back in a few minutes took my car to markville ford lincoln on june 20th, 2013, and they claimed it was fixed. on the report, it is said: "ds12 diagnose engine light concern, locate and repair wiring to accelerator, replace sensor" "ftp fuel injectors & throttle body service plus pcm reprogram" 5 days later on june 25, 2013, the exact same problem happened again. i was almost rear-ended, and my 3 year old son was sitting in the back of the car. very frustrated and upset. took the car to markville ford lincoln first thing in the morning on june 26, 2013, and the wrench light was on my way to the dealer. i did not shutdown the engine and put the car in parking at the dealer. after a while, the engine suddenly started to rev up and down between 1500 and 2200 rpm. voiced the concern of the throttle body issue to the dealer as i have seen this issue discussed all over the internet. dealer still claim it is a pcm issue. the car is still in the dealership right now. called ford canada customer relationship, and they will contact markville ford lincoln. sorry the address doesn't allow canadian address. so i simply put new york state. *tr

Like many others, i'm experiencing increasingly frequent acceleration failures (no acceleration with visual cue as well as acceleration surges) consistent with (and identified by dealer as) a malfunctioning etb. additionally, it seems that the throttle body may be affected by both proximity and stress sensors, as the failures (and generally fairly dramatic drops in speed) tend to occur most frequently at high speeds in heavy traffic. per ford's response to the safety investigation (inrl-pe13003-57050p), the manufacturer submits that the resulting fmem mode (always the most severe of "good luck with that" in my vehicle's case) allows for safe maneuvering. while this may be true on the test courses in dearborn, i'd gladly volunteer my vehicle to allow my neighbors to re-evaluate this claim in actual lansing traffic. *tt

During initial acceleration the car will lose power and start shaking sporadically. the car will not stall but it does not accelerate even when the gas peddle is depressed. the car has to be restarted to stop behavior. check engine light appeared after the behavior persisted for about a week. brought car to an auto zone for an odbii reading. the codes that were reported are as follows: p2111: throttle actuator control system - stuck open. p0457: evap small leak detected brought car to ford dealer as problem persisted. ford dealer diagnosed problem as electronic throttle body failure. electronic throttle body was replaced. *tr

As i drove my 2010 ford fusion se 6 speed manual transmission up to a speed of 50 mph, i was noticing a couple jerks of acceleration and then completely loosing power.i was able to pull over, come to a complete stop and turn the vehicle off and restart it. app-on restarting i was able to make it to auto zone where i was informed that my fuel injectors probably needed a good cleaning. so i bought some cleaner and ran i through my engine. that seemed to have worked until 3 days later i was coming home with my sister and her friend on the freeway, during rush hour driving 75mph this time, and my car didn't only stall once, but three times on my drive home. however, this time my check engine light came on so when i arrived back how and dropped of my sister and her friend i drove to auto zone and advanced auto parts to get an obd ii reading. both readings were p2111, meaning that my throttle actuator was stuck open and not responding to the gas peddle. now both companies suggested that i just clean my throttle body and that would fix the problem. before i did this i call my ford dealer to see if this part was under warranty or any kind of recall and was informed that it was not under warranty or recall. they also suggested that i just clean the throttle body and that would fix my problem. so i cleaned the throttle body, but now the car is stalling more than before. i tried looking up the part so that i could replace it but found out that ford has already discontinued that part and is telling people to by the new part, but they never did a recall for the part. this particular part controls the air flow into the engine, if it malfunctions the throttle body closes up and the car idles, no matter how fast you are going. this is a sever safety issue that ford needs to take responsibility for. if they don't someone can be seriously injured, or worse, killed. *tr

4th incident with my 2010 fusion shutting down while driving. i picked it up from the ford service 6/18 and they said they fixed it, again. i drove to work, no problems. got off work, driving for about 10 minutes and the car sputtered, wrench light comes on and when i press the gas, nothing happens. coasted to the side of the road and it sputtered some more and shuts off. ford keeps making repairs to my car saying they've fixed it but it's not fixed. now i have $1,200 in repair bills and no car. i'm scared to drive my car and very stressed over this. no one should have to keep going through this danger of driving a car that keeps shutting off! and as i see from other ford owners, i'm not the only one this is happening to. ford needs to do something about this issue, or someone is going to get seriously hurt, or killed!! i've complained to ford motor credit customer service and filed another complaint with the nhtsa. please do something to recall these cars to fix the issues!! *tr

On june 18, 2013 while driving home from work i was stopped a yield sign waiting for traffic to clear which would allow me to enter a main road. when traffic was clear i pressed the accelerator and began to proceed. within one or two seconds i lost all power in my accelerator and the rpms were not moving in my dashboard. as i steered my vehicle to the side of the road my car began to jerk as i put my vehicle in park; roughly 100 feet from where i pulled from. it is important to note the wrench on the dashboard turn on when my vehicle came to rest. i turned my car off and put my hazards on. i waited several seconds then turn the car on. it had trouble starting but did start. i noticed the wrench on again but it quickly turned off. if the road was not clear when i pulled from the yield sign i would have caused and accident after starting my vehicle and proceeding down the road about 1 mile the vehicle had the same sequence of losing power in the accelerator and jerking to a stop as i put the vehicle in park. this time the road had widened to a tow lane road overpass of an interstate. my vehicle came to a stop just before the entrance to the interstate. the posted speed limit is 35 mph but people typically accelerate to 50 mph preparing to enter the highway. coming to a stop before the interstate on ramp thankfully did not cause an accident but did cause a small traffic slow down as i pulled to the side of the road. again i was able to start the vehicle with a little trouble and this time i noticed the wrench and check engine light on. after dropping my vehicle off on june 19, 2013 i received a call from the ford dealership advising the issue was related to the throttle body and that it would need to be replaced. i authorized the work because i need a reliable car and do not want to fear for my safety while driving the vehicle. *tr

Driving down the highway i lost the ability to accelerate, and the car went to a quick decelerate. luckily there was not much traffic, and i was able to safely pull to the side of the road. the car almost stalled once i got completely stopped. i turned the car off for about 30 seconds, and restarted it. it started up a little slow, but was quick to go back to normal. this was on tuesday morning. on friday afternoon the same symptoms (no acceleration, and a quick deceleration) but this time i was traveling approximately 60 mph in heavier traffic. i was in the left lane, and my only option was to pull off to the left, because i was not traveling fast enough to try and get through the traffic to the right. turned it off, about a minute later i started it again, and i went on my way. then this morning (06/25/13) it happened 2 times on my way to work. i have been driving in the right lane, just in case it happened again, and it is a good thing i did. i consider this to be a safety hazard, as traveling at high speeds, and not being able to safely get pulled over presents a lot of danger for myself and other drivers. i took my car to the repair shop to have them look at the code, and they told me it points to a throttle body issue. after reading numerous reports of similar situations and symptoms, i think this is something that needs to be addressed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the check engine light. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 104,000. *tr

I was driving on the highway at 65 mph during rush hour traffic when suddenly my speed dropped to 5 mph. i pulled off to the side of the road and turned off my car. after sitting for a few minutes i started the car and got back on the highway. after i traveled for approximately one mile it did the same thing again. i turned off the car and restarted in a minute or two and again was able to continue my travels on the highway. my destination was about two miles away. i called the dealer, ganley ford, that i purchased the car from and was able to get my car in that day. the diagnosed the problem to be the throttle body. i was told that it would take a week for the part to come in. to my surprise it only took three days for it come in. i was told that this was not covered under the manufacturer warranty or under my extended warranty. this a very serious issue and i am lucky that i was not hit from behind because there was no warning that this was going to happen. my spend just went from 65 mph to 5 mph. i had the gas pedal to the floor, but my car would not go. i have read many ford forums and blogs and it appears that this is a very common problem. i believe that these cars should be recalled and those of us that have already paid to have the problem fixed should be reimbursed. *tr

My husband was speeding up to pass someone when the car lost power and stopped accelerating. the vehicle behind him almost hit him because the car slowed down so rapidly. we contacted ford and they said it was the throttle body. they've had the car for almost 2 weeks-the part is on back-order. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact mentioned that the check engine and the mil warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not taken a dealer for a diagnostic test. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 75,000. *tr

Was driving on highway, when my 2010 ford fusion se lost power and was jerking forward. i had to pull over to side of highway because i could not accelerate. indicator light for transmission problem was on. i turned off the car and restarted, after which the vehicle ran fine again. however, after driving for a few more miles, car did the same thing. i again restarted and vehicle ran fine again, this time running long enough for me to get home. while driving it to the ford dealership, it did this again, this time at speed of about 60 mph. vehicle would drive but was only able to go at very low speeds. dealer said it was an issue with throttle body and that this part is on backorder. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated while making a right turn the vehicle lost power. the contact drove onto the emergency lane and turned the vehicle off. after restarting the vehicle the contact was able to drive the vehicle normally without incident. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and after it was diagnosed the dealer stated they could find nothing wrong; however, the identical failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but it was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileage was 47,000. *tr

When driving on a highway, suddenly the engine seemed to lose power and slow down, and the wrench on the dashboard lit up. switched the transmission to neutral and was able to pull onto the shoulder. upon putting the car into park, the engine would race and slow down continuously. after turning off the car, waiting a few minutes and then restarting, was able to continue driving without incident for another hour or so. wasn't able to extract any fault codes from the ecu later that day. purchased an obd reader and was able to get error code p2112 next time the issue happened. dealer refuses to cover the expense as i am out of the bumper-to-bumper warranty period, and the part is on backorder for weeks. complained to ford corporate who told me they would "likely" make an exception and to bring the car to the dealer to diagnose. dealer confirmed the issue, called ford corporate to confirm it would be covered and they denied it. complete waste of my time, and shocking that ford doesn't do a recall for such a dangerous issue. i'm lucky i didn't get in an accident any of the 5 times or so this has happened to me. *tr

Was driving down highway approx 40 mph and vehicle shut off, coasted to side of rode, turned key twice, no luck, then 3rd time it cranked back up, then drove slowly another mile to home.scared me, having recently been in an auto accident (no fault of my own) could have easily been rear ended again!!! maybe a throttle body issue that needs to be recalled??? *tr

Tl* the contact own a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated while driving the vehicle it lost all power. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 59,640. *tr

This is a complaint for an issue that has an existing preliminary evaluation - nhtsa pe13003. i purchased a 2010 ford fusion sel in july 2010. it was purchased new. in may of 2013, while driving on city streets with my 3 year old daughter, my vehicle appeared to stall as i was turning at a traffic light. while the vehicle was still powered, my ability to control the vehicle or accelerate to speeds over 5 mph was instantly removed. i was able to limp to the side of the road and restart the car, which drove normally until the next day when i was driving across town to meet the person providing me a ride to and from the ford dealership. over the course of an hour, my vehicle exhibited the same symptoms 4 separate times while trying to get to a ford dealership. the dealership reported to me the next ay that i would have to have the throttle body replaced, at a cost of $486. none of the cost would be covered under warranty, and that i would be advised to have the work done immediately as the necessary replacement part was in shortage nationwide, and the dealership only had 1 on hand. i had the part replaced, and the vehicle has functioned normally since. *tr

While driving the vehicle it seemed to loose power and was idling rough. was able to pull off the road, opened the hood and the engine was shaking and running rough. vehicle was only going a couple miles an hour as driver tried to make it back to his motel, when the vehicle just turned off. driver let the vehicle sit for a minute and then tried to start it again, and it started up. the vehicle would run but it has extremely limited power. vehicle was taken to the nearest ford dealership where it was determined that it was a failed throttle body and that the part was on national back order. had to wait two weeks for the part to become available. *tr

Driving at highway speeds when i felt a shudder and realized i was losing forward momentum. rpms dropped and the engine did not respond to stepping on the gas pedal. a wrench light illuminated on the dash. only coasting, i was able to move the car to the side of the road and put it in park. car had a very shaky idle, like it was about to stall. i turned off the ignition and waited for about 1 min, then tried to turn the car back on. car took longer than usual to turn back on, but once it was back on it seemed fine. was able to continue driving it to my destination without further incident. five days after first incident, same even occurred again, with turning the car off and on seeming to correct the problem for the time. no electrical, braking, or power-steering power was lost. *tr

The engine stalls and throttle becomes on responsive . when the vehicle is shut off and restarted it is fine for a while . this occured three times in the last three weeks . i do alot of highway driving and this is a very dangerous problem . *tr

Driving and lost power, car engine died. wrench icon came on on the ger indicator. sputtered when coming to stop and had to shut car off and restart. when restarted i had no odemeter or gas mileage indicator on dash. did another 2 times until i reached my destination, approx 3 -5 miles away. i was out of town when happened and i called my ford dealer and explained and the service manager stated he was 95% sure it was the throttle body. he also stated i might not be able to get fixed right away as to the possibility of no parts available as a known issue. had to finally stop at a ford dealer on sunday on our return trip as kept happening, repeatedly and too unsafe to drive any further as we were not getting any further than 5 miles apart before it kept happening and 2 of us had to stay overnight in a hotel until the ford dealer opened monday am. on the 4th time this happened, a check engine light finally came on..not prior to this though.the ford dealer confirmed it was the throttle body and we did have replaced at that time. *tr

The vehicle lost acceleration and stalled. restarted and the condition recurred approximately in 3 or 4 miles. again, i turned the key off then restarted and again, the condition repeated after several miles down the road. the car was taken to the ford dealership the next day and no code was available for the mechanic to diagnose. the condition did not reoccur for six weeks and resurfaced again with identical symptoms. returned the vehicle to the dealership where this time they affirmed the throttle body failure. the part is unavailable at this time because of high demand exhausted the availability of the unit. *tr

Multiple times engine just would die and restart after pulling over to side of road and restarting. i just chucked it up to bad gas as we have had a slew of reports on this in my area. on wed june 12th while on the interstate at 70mph in busy traffic i in the middle of 3 lanes it decides to again loose accelerator pedal and idle...no where to go cars zooming up on me and honking and slammin on there brakes!. i pull over finally and turn key off and restarts easily. upon gettin off interstate it continues to stall at will. pulled into autozone and have it checked for error code and said was faulty throttle body. upon looking up on line i was amazed that this is so common with the motor trends car or the year in 2010! and still no recall from ford! i feel this is as big safety issue! what if this happens into a merge situation? or turnin into high speed traffic???? please help. *tr

Car started jerking and the throttle light and engine light came on. lost power and acceleration. had difficulty maneuvering it to the side of the road. vehicle had to be towed to dealership where mechanic diagnosed the problem as failed throttle body assembly. *tr

This car has a tendency on stalling because of the electronic throttle body. *tr

I was driving at approximately 35 mph when without any warning the car stopped accelerating and began to shake and the wrench light on the dashboard lit up. there was no indication at all that anything was wrong prior to the decelerating and shaking. the rapid deceleration caused the car behind me to have to swerve into the other lane to avoid hitting me. i hit the emergency lights to warn drivers behind me and with some difficultly (due to the shaking) was able to pull to the side of the road. once i was safely out of traffic i turned the car off. i waited a moment to calm myself as it was frightening to have no control of my vehicle on a busy street. when i turned the car back on the dash light was no longer on and the car performed normally. when i got back to my office i looked for similar incident on the web and was horrified to find hundreds and hundreds of complaints about the very same thing. this is an extremely dangerous issue. having no control of the speed of a vehicle is life threatening. had this happened on a busy highway it would very likely have caused an accident. i called ford and was told to take the car in to the dealership so they could diagnose it and fix the problem. my concern is that if there is no recall on this part that causes this problem - what guarantee is there that the new part will not do the same thing. i find it difficult to believe that after all of the complaints about the same problem ford does not think it important enough to recall or at the very least warn their fusion owners! *tr

I was driving along on a neighborhood road when my car suddenly lost power and idled really rough. when i would press the gas pedal, nothing would happen. i was able to pull the car off to the side of the road due to very little traffic and cut the car off and then restarted it. it worked at that time, but since then has done this multiple times while driving. the last time this happened, it would happen everytime i started the car for about 4-5 times, before the car finally stayed on, and i was able to get home. luckily each time this happened, traffic was slow, because this could have caused a serious accident. i have been looking into this situation and have found multiple other occurrences of this same problem happening all over the country, and have found out that it is the throttle body and the throttle actuator. something needs to be done about this and quick before someone gets killed from this. *tr

June 10th, 2013 the car decrease from 45 to 5 miles while making a left hand turn crossing two lanes of on coming traffic. wrench light came on. i switched off car and restarted. light disappeared. we put a call into dealership service department and reported to ford motor. no reply back from stamford dealership. light did not come back on and i was able to drive car home. *tr

Was driving interstate speeds and vehicle shut down, wrench symbol came on dash board. has happened 3-5 times since, in traffic or at highway speeds. extremely dangerous. *tr

While driving on the interstate at about 60 mph, my 2010 ford fusion unexpectedly lost power and suddenly slowed. it did not accelerate when i stepped on the gas, however, the engine was still running. i had to put on my emergency flashers and coast to pull off on the side of the road while other cars and trucks traveling fast were coming up on me. after i pulled off, i restarted the car and it ran okay for a while. however, the same thing has happened a total of 4 times. this is a major safety issue. i am afraid to drive the car until they figure out what the problem is. *tr

Was driving on the freeway with cruise control on and all of a sudden the car shook and there was a beep and then my wrench light came on and started losing speed fast. was able to get over to the shoulder. i turned the car off and then turned it back on. was able to drive a few hundred yards when it happened against this time the engine light came on and stayed on. i took it to the dealer and with in 30 minutes told me was the throttle body intake with an error code of p2111. could have gotten bad quickly. *tr

Vehicle completely lost power while driving and virtually shut down while driving on a major highway. i brought the vehicle to lamarque ford and was told that it was the throttle body. last week, i was again getting on the interstate and the same thing happened. this time i have 40300 miles on the vehicle. i was told that it would not be covered because the vehicle was out of warranty and the parts warranty was only good for a year. in addition, i was told that the part is on back order and it will take 2 to 3 weeks for the dealership to get the part. this is very well known with this car and a major safety issue. i am afraid to drive this car since it just completely shuts down and hesitates to start back up. it has left me stranded many times. *tr

While driving down a moderately traveled road, my vehicle lost power where when i pushed on the accelerator (nothing happened). i was able to get pulled off the side of the road and some warning lights appeared on my dash. i turned the car off and restarted it and it seemed to be okay (no warning lights on dash) and i proceeded home. the following morning it happened again while attempting to pull away from a traffic light on a busier road. i managed to get off the road, turned it off and tried restarting it. once i got it restarted, i headed straight for the dealership. it was diagnosed as being the throttle body. my issue is that it can completely catch the driver off guard and cause an accident. the vehicle is not very old and the manufacturer seems to be controlling the distribution of the part (only so many released at a time). it took over a week to get my car back for what seems to be a very common issue as read in forums from other owners of the same type of vehicle. i believe the issue with the throttle body needs to be reviewed for a possible recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle returned to normal function when it was restarted. the failure was experienced several times. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileage was 50,000.

I was driving around 70 miles an hour, southbound in the hov lane of i-95 near exit 2b in alexandria va. the area is a construction zone with barricades on either side of the two lane hov facility. suddenly, and abruptly, i lost all acceleration and had to coast to a stop in a manner that blocked the right lane of the hov facility. the engine remained running in a rough idle, and the engine/wrench light came on. i tried restarting the car (shutting off and turning the car back on trying a variety of shifting the transmission to n or p). the car would run, but always at a rough idle with no ability to accelerate. during this time, there were several near rear-end collisions due to motorists traveling at a high rate of speed before encountering my completely stopped vehicle. realizing the peril i was in, i quickly exited the vehicle and hopped the construction barricade. i called 911 due to the danger of the situation and it took around 25 minutes for the roadside assistance vehicle to arrive. after the engine cooled, the issue seemed to resolve itself, and i was able to drive the vehicle to the nearest dealership. the diagnosis was made by the ford dealership technicians within 90 seconds of me describing the problem. the throttle body was the problem. i researched the issue to discover that this issue is extremely common and well known to ford. the issue is so pervasive that there is a nationwide back order on the part with a lead-time of more than 2 weeks. i was angered to learn that ford is aware of this issue yet has not sent notice of the problem or a recall and is charging customers for parts and labor to fix this problem. most importantly, i am angered of the peril that i was placed in when this known issue impacted me in one of the worst possible places to have it happen. i cannot imagine what i would have done if my kids were in the vehicle. *tr

While driving at 50 miles an hour the engine lost power and would barley move when the gas pedal was pushed, i was able to drive two blocks to an auto repair shop and was told it was the throttle body assembly, i contacted ford motor company and found out there have been numerous complaints about the throttle body so much so that the parts are on a two month back order unless they order under an emergency condition then it still takes two weeks. i am wondering why there has not been a recall by ford before someone is seriously injured or killed? i am now having to pay over $500.00 for the repair. *tr

Engine throttle failure, appears to be a well known issue via basic internet research. is ford aware and supposed to have notified owners of this problem? *tr
