When pressing the gas pedal, it shakes and hesitates and jumps/shutters for several seconds until it gets up to a certain speed. this happens on the highway and basically everywhere i am starting from a complete stop. it has also started hesitating when put into gear. my son drives this car sometimes and i'm afraid for his safety because you don't know if it's going to go or not when you pull off from a stop.
My vehicle has had numerous transmission problems, going into reverse while driving, shutting off while driving, etc. recently, the power steering completely went out and reverted to manual steering. today, while driving it for a while, i noticed a burning smell and pulled over. under the hood, the fuse box had caught fire, but was blown out by the wind when i opened the hood. 20,500 miles.
The vehicle a 2014 ford focus s model was moving at a high rate of speed going down the highway when it stalled out due to the wiring splices going bad causing the vehicle to stall out and stop without warning
We bought a 2014 focus on march 27, 2015 and drove the focus without problems until january 2016. on february 22, 2016, the engine oil warning was flashing. almost all the oil was depleted. it had been less than 5,000 miles since the last oil change, so it was strange. we took our car into kayser ford the next day. they couldn't find anything suspicious. it was concluded that not enough oil was filled previously. they then filled oil to the max level. on march 10, we checked the oil level after 500 miles since the last change. the oil level was low. we went back to kayser, and they found that the oil level varied. they suspected an oil burning problem. we then made an appointment with an engine specialist and had 2 quarts of oil put in. on march 15, we visited kayser again and had the engine specialist check it. they again felt that not enough oil was filled the last time, and we should bring it back after another 500 miles. the last full oil change was done by kayser on february 23. we made another appointment on march 24, and we then went on a 400 mile trip. after we arrived and checked the oil on march 20, the oil was much lower than the minimum level. since it was sunday and we did not want to risk an accident, we added ford motorcraft 5w20 oil. on march 24, we went back to kayser and the technician said that we had to come back again later because we added oil since the last service. we showed evidence through photos, but he refused to do a detailed diagnosis. he said that they had to report the exact amount of oil consumption lost in order to do more. we had to visit family living about 170 miles away, but we did not feel safe driving that far. we asked kayser ford to provide us a rental car, but they wouldn't. we made it to our destination, but we had a low amount of oil the next day. we then took it to a nearby ford dealership for a fill up.
Car hesitates and shutters when driven. this is worse at lower speeds or when turning. this happens both on the highway and on city streets. it's been serviced 4 times for this issue, each time the module requires reprogramming, but the problem persists. recently the check engine soon light had been on. we've been to the dealer and they repaired it, but the engine light has turned on again only 5 days after the last repair. i've checked and the focus has 5 different active recalls, 2 of them with regards to power train, but this car seems to be excluded from them at this time.
Design flaw in "double clutch" automatic transmission that causes "shudder" at low speeds, slipping on hills, and "jerking" at higher speeds. most apparent at low speeds, such as accelerating after a stop light or sign, or on a hill. dealer and manufacturer refuse to fix, beyond a software update to the transmission module. ongoing.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving, the vehicle slowed down and the rpms suddenly increased, which caused the vehicle to speed up again. the contact took the vehicle to vista ford lincoln of oxnard (1501 auto center dr, oxnard, ca 93036, (805) 983-6511) and they re-calibrated the engine. the vehicle's performance improved, but the failure recurred and worsened. the vehicle was taken to another unknown ford dealer and they replaced the transmission control module and the transmission clutch. after a couple of months, the failure recurred. the dealer stated that the transmission clutch needed to be replaced again. the dealer wanted to charge for the repair since it was no longer covered by the warranty. the failure mileage was 36,000.
The car shudders upon acceleration from a stop; changing gears more like a manual transmission than the automatic transmission that it is. also, the car began shaking and shuddering during right hand turns. so far, this is an intermittent problem. the acceleration from slow speeds and from a stop is dangerously slow and nearly unresponsive at times. *js
At around 12000 miles, noticed unsettling shuddering of transmission going uphill. had ford dealer inspect at 14000 miles at which time they reprogrammed the transmission control module and i was told to drive it for 1000 miles to see if that fixed it. it started shuddering again in first gear at 15000 miles. i was told that it needed a clutch, but there was a backorder list for these clutches of 4-6 weeks. i am driving in fear of worse transmission problems on the way that might cause serious damage to property and people. i was never notified of a recall, but on the repair invoice, it was noted "recall #15b22 reprogram transmission control module cause: fsa reprogram pcm/tcm and perform clutch adaptive learning procedure 997310 w auth code 005479"
Letter from congressman neugebauer on behalf of constituents of the 19th district of texas re ford safety issues. *smd the consumer owns a 2014 ford focus se with the optional dps6 power shift transmission. the transmission exhibited a severe, erratic movement, along with shuddering/jerking, with the most severe being while the vehicle was in reverse, park or drive on four different occasions. on two of those occasions, it happened when the consumer was accelerating from a complete stop and the vehicle lurched backwards; once hitting a pedestrian and leaving scratches on the back of the vehicle with a dented license plate. on several occasions, the vehicle accelerated on its own and applying the brake did not slow the vehicle down. last year, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and the consumer had to hit a curb, in order to avoid an accident with another vehicle. the consumer stated the vehicle had numerous transmission and engine leaks where seals had to be replaced. five days after the vehicle was inspected, the vehicle went into park while in the midst of driving 65 mph/ the vehicle shook, and revved and the rp's were extremely high, then the vehicle started to slow down without any assistance from the consumer. the vehicle came to a complete stop, an error message appeared that said transmission not in park. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while the vehicle was parked, an abnormal sound was heard from the engine and the driver side fog light illuminated independently. in addition, while driving at various speeds, the radio turned on and off independently. the failures recurred constantly. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed, but the cause of the failures was not found. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 13,000.
Car intermittently stalls when the clutch pedal is depressed. this can occur at a stoplight or at freeway speed.
I have escaped being hit multiple times with my car doing this. i have a fear i am going to be rear ended or killed because of my car. the car stalls on the road there is something wrong with the transmission our car has been at the dealership for over a month, second time on the transmission jerking and stalling on the road when you would be stoped at a red light then in motion it jerked when you increased your speed, very unsafe to drive and no one is doing nothing about it. ford can not fix the problem. should be a national recall. . not japordizing my family life for a car that stalls on the road.
The engine overheats for no reason and as a result the car shuts off. took the car to ford and was told due to it being a dual clutch transmission there is nothing under the hood to cool the engine down and to just put the hood up for 20 minutes and it is fine. this has happened 3 times now in stop and go traffic.
Bad hesitation/jerking when starting from a stop position i have had my vehicle to the dealership and they have ordered a part back in october 2015 which still has yet to come in, and i was informed today it will be another 6 weeks before it arrives. in the meantime the hesitation and jerking are getting worse than they were initially. it concerns me what else could this unresolved issue be impacting. and what happens if this causes my transmission to go out while i'm driving.
The vehicle has went into reverse on 3 occasions while the gear stick selector is in the drive position. one incident it went into reverse, striking a pedestrian causing injury. on another it went into reverse while on a freeway, then came to a crawl and stopped. ford sent out their field service technician and said that an engine crankshaft seal was leaking (in addition to the clutch seals that had been replaced for leakage earlier). the dealer says that these leaks are common and cause the transmission to exhibit erratic behavior, including going into reverse. according to the ford dispute resolution department, they could find no abnormal codes in the computer of the car - which could be a whole other defect in itself. ford refuses to provide me paperwork on the technician's report/review of the vehicle and cannot guarantee that it will not happen again, nor will they verify that the fixes are safe. ford was "unable to duplicate" the transmission going in reverse during their 7 mile test drive. a person at the dealership's service department told me that they try not to drive the cars very far and with a cold transmission so that the issues are not prevalent and cannot be duplicated and they will not have to diagnose anything. they also verified that they have a lot of issues with these vehicles, and with ford in general trying to authorize repairs. i feel that something as serious as this should not have to be "duplicated" in order to have a fix looked into. i wish we were able to form a petition with the nhtsa to file a formal investigation into the safety practices of ford and the safety of these particular dps6 transmissions. search ford fiesta 2011-2014 and ford focus 2012-2014 on the nhtsa - they are all made with the same transmission technology. i have filed a lemon law complaint with my state, who seemed very frustrated with ford.
Previously, due to the transmission shifting into reverse while the gear selector is in "d" drive, i backed into a female pedestrian hitting her and almost running her over. there are still scratches from her rings on my back bumper. ford has performed numerous tsb's and recalls to "fix" the issue. upon the most recent tsb and recall update, i was promised it would take care of any issues, including an issue where the vehicle would shudder and search for a gear before engaging and spinning out from a complete stop. after driving it for 30 miles, i noticed the engine running rough, shaking, and slowing down while in idle. i stopped for a refuel. i got back in the vehicle and calculated my mpg's as i always do - only 19mpg, which ford says is "within spec" as long as it is not more than 8mpg off. (the on board mpg calculator shows 22.7mpg - always incorrect). it should be 26city, 36hwy. i placed the gear selector in "d" drive (as was also referenced in the on board screen). once pressing the accelerator, the vehicle's in dash screen flashed that i was in "r" reverse and the vehicle lurched backwards. i braked, then the engine revved and went automatically back into "d." i drove 2 blocks, at a speed of 40 mph in "d," it again switched to "r" revving the engine, then slowed to a stop. i pulled over, turned the engine off and waited before turning it back on. the drive home, it would jump between gears "searching." i let it sit overnight, and today it has not exhibited these actions. i'm uploading a photo showing the car doing 35 in the "r" position with the rpm jumped up to 3500. i was actually going forward. in "r," car should not go over 20mph. this is evidence that it switched mid "d" drive. also, the tires are starting to form pits and has a circumference of separation/splitting which dealership said is "fine." this is causing a vibration and whirring noise.
I have had my car now for 18 months and it has been in and out of the shop for clutch issues the clutch has been replaced now twice and they updated my computer trying to fix the clutch as well. my car is still not running properly. it has a rough idol worse than what it was before i got my clutch replaced yesterday and it jerks when starting out ( this jerking is not bad right now because i just had the clutch replaced but its still there) i have requested this vehicle to be bought back multiple times and i get a no and they wont tell me why and dont return my emails. i have just requested another buy back and waiting on a response. thanks for your time and i hope you can help me out.
Vehicle was losing power, rough idling and stalling while driving. took to dealership and was found to have 2 cylinders with low compression and metal in engine. ford case#7853581 engine was replaced. vehicle at dealership for 9 days. ford regional customer service manager does not respond to my emailed questions. after repair car does not start up immediately, gradual problem until 9 days after engine has been replaced, the car does not start at all. towed to dealership and has now been there for 2 days. i fear that an accident may occur while driving this vehicle and believe that it is not safe.
The transmission is shuddering, slipping out of gear and it feels like it is going to stall while accelerating from a stop. i could hear grinding noise, like its and bolts and loose.
Transmission control module is defective. my car judders severely. failed to get up to speed correct. rpm is 4,500. i have contacted ford corporate, they have failed to execute. there is a recall on the part but there is 6-8 week back order. i do not feel safe driving my vehicle
I purchased this vehicle from a reputable dealership in town as a used vehicle but with only 20k miles on it. the dealership refused to let me test drive it on the highway citing dealership rules. everything seemed to work fine. one week after getting car home it began shuddering and failing to accelerate only to rapidly shift gears once it figured out what it wanted to do. when trying to enter highway the car would run through 4 gears before hitting mph causing horrible and sluggish performance. when finally get up to 55 mph or more, the car shutters so bad it is making other parts fall apart and come loose...like the steering and a/c not working properly...i have to go 80 just to get it to reduce slightly. i called up dealer and demanded they repair. dealer reset transmission to factory defaults which fixed nothing. took car in 3 more times when finally they admitted it was a clutch issue and put me on a back order list. i waiting 3 months while having to drive an unsafe vehicle but it finally was replaced. to no ones surprise the car performs worse now then it did. took back to dealer 2 more times, to which i was told the clutch has a 1000 mile break in period. i asked then why didn't anyone say that when i picked it up. spoke with service manager who keeps trying to tell me they can duplicate the problem...i asked why is it i have the problem 100% of the time i drive it but it never seems to happen when you have it.... i even tried demonstrating but they literally just ignored me and said they didn't hear anything or feel anything...i have reached out to class action lawyers for details on how to sue and get car paid for taken back so i can get a safe car....otherwise i have to drive a known safety hazard.
While driven i had trouble with car jerking when trying to drive then error message transmission at fault and hill side assit not working. it would go for a little while then driving the message kept coming on. rmp would jump real high and not moving then it would catch and jerk and continue going.

I approached a red light to make a right turn. i came to a complete stop, the on coming traffic had a green left arrow allowing them to turn them in front of me. once the traffic cleared, i started my right turn. the car stuttered as i began to accelerate, the vehicle behind me appeared to almost hit me as my acceleration was almost not existent. i pressed the gas further and finally around 5500 rpm, the car seemed to 'engage' since it lurched and the tires chirped a bit as they grabbed the pavement.

I was driving on the freeway at 70mph in fifth gear and something in the engine blew. i started blowing oil and smoke out the rear, "service engine soon" came on, and the oil light came on. i lost all power and power steering, so i made my way to the shoulder. i pulled the hood latch and stepped out of the vehicle. upon exiting the vehicle i witnessed flames shooting out from underneath the hood in the engine bay. i backed up and watched the front of the car fully engulf into flames.

While accelerating, vehicle frequently stalls and/or hesitates to continue acceleration creating a jerking affect until it can actually catch again or provide fuel to accelerate. this typically occurs when pressing on the pedal both when stopped/start or if in motion and accelerate to go onto the highway. this happens frequently while driving on a daily basis.
The vehicle drives like it is in the wrong gear. it seems like the transmission or something is dragging. it does not go smoothly to another gear. it drives hard for a 2014 car. i don't know what the problem is..... updated 09/30/15*bf
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly slowed down and would not accelerate. during the incident, the "engine fault, service now'' message displayed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. in addition, when accelerating from a stop, the vehicle would shutter. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the clutch was faulty. the pcm and tcm were reprogrammed and the clutch was replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 500.
While taking turns at 10 - 15 mph speed and/or while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle gives out a series of rattling noises with the transmission. this seems to occurs at no / partial throttle being applied. at times, while accelerating from stop, the vehicle shatters quite strongly. the shudder is pretty strong when it occurs when accelerating from a stop on an incline. *tr
The car shudders, jerks and slips out of gear ... ford won't do it and let me buy the car without saying a word even though they knew the hundreds of complaints and lawsuits they have had in the past. *tr
Hello i purchased my 2014 ford focus sept 1, 2014 decided to get a ford being that i've had nothing but toyota corollas in the past and a plymouth neon that was given to me but prefer corollas anyways soon after i was driving it i noticed a jerking, revving on take off at first i thought ok it's just me but when my sisters noticed it and my brother while he took it to the store that's when i knew it wasn't just me. the car feels like it has no power upon take off which makes me really uncertain and afraid i don't feel insure letting anyone ride with me. i drive up ortega hwy a lot since my son lives in mission viejo it's a very up hill ride the car jerks a lot and again has no power i literally have to give it gas for it to move. i have taken it in twice now to get checked and both times they performed a update on the engine was what i was told and that the car was fine. i am not happy with my car i feel that i got ripped of they should discontinue this cars instead of selling them they are very hazards and should not be out on the roads. i am continuing making my payments since i don't want it to affect my credit buy i am not to happy since the car i thought was in good standards is not i wish i would of known this when i was buying this type of vehicle i was never informed of the kind of transmission i know that i did tell them i want a automatic not a dual automatic and standard transmission not a happy person right now. very disappointing. *tr
Shudder in first to second gear losing power with engine or transmission; loss of speed and shaking and no accerlation from stop to start; loss of power and auto jumps up and down without going anywhere.
While driving in stop and go traffic the car accelerated, lurching forward, instead of stopping when the brakes were applied, causing me to strike the car in front of me. car transmission revved and gave the sound of a car shifting gears, and continued to rev for several seconds after impact. *tr
I purchased my car new from a ford dealer in 2015. my car had this shudder from the beginning but the dealer told me it was 'normal,' etc. i've found the information about the class action lawsuit and detroit free press revelations about ford motor company knowing the transmission was defective before my 2014 focus was even built! but when i called my dealership yesterday they still say the defect symptoms are 'normal' and they'll charge me $89 if i want a diagnostic. and even if i do that and they replace the defective transmission, they'll be installing another inherently defective transmission! this isn't a manufacturing plant issue where a small percentage of the vehicles built on one particular day received the wrong widget. the transmission design is defective. i no longer feel safe in this car nor do i trust ford motor company or its dealership that's been lying to me for years. i made a point of buying an american company car made in the usa to support my country and this is what they do??
Since about 6,000 miles, my car "stutters" upon acceleration. going forward from a stopped position, there is hesitation prior to acceleration which is an accident waiting to happen as those behind me accelerate normally. then, it stutters, or hesitates, as i accelerate to a point, at which point acceleration ceases and the rpms race. again, a danger of being hit from behind or the side when merging. i asked my oil change guy to take a look at the transmission, but he refused as he has heard about transmission issues with the ford focus cars and suggested i take it to the dealer. when i called ford to make an appointment, they were well aware of the problem and said they just needed to "recalibrate". my car "passed" their test, but the issue continued. i spoke with the dealership who said he is on the phone with 7-8 ford focus owners a day talking about this issue that is allegedly not a safety concern, but a design which is not a defect. he said if and only if my car were to fail the "test", then they would have permission to order a new part. i took my car in again, it failed, and now i am waiting 12-16 weeks for the part to come in. from what i understood from the dealership, the new part may make things a bit better, but the way it drives will be the same. this design is not only flawed, making for an uncomfortable ride, it is a safety concern. i can only hope the government steps in to force ford to take responsibility and do what's right, because it seems they are unwilling to do so.
This is the second time that my car accelerated on its own, once while stopped, the second time while driving. the first occurrence of occurred while stopped at 0 miles per hour at a drive-through, i had to push on the brakes harder to prevent the car from hitting the car ahead of me. a second occurrence occurred yesterday on february 14 of 2014. i was driving at 35 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone when the car automatically without warning accelerated; i had to steer the car into a snow bank and i almost hit a large tree i am very concerned about the above occurrences and i will get in touch with my ford dealership tomorrow to see what can be done after the first incident i took the car to the ford dealership wart was evaluated and i was advised that there is nothing wrong with the car. *tr
Vehicle has had a red fluid leak for quite some time. the car has been back to the dealership for this issue many times and currently filing lemon law arbitration. the car has been out of commission for 55 days altogether since it's purchase in january this year due to the fluid leak which seems to be more of coolant than anything else. it is burning oil and or losing it somewhere that isn't visible. it also has had electrical problems with starting as well as the radio clock and presets all resetting after sitting for more than 24 hours. i have had to have the sunroof resales after it had leaked for over two months and the dealership wasn't able to find the leak. the front end makes horrible noises when decelerating. it grinds and whines as if something is about to blow up. i've taken it into the dealer for all of these concerns and only one of them has been resolved fully. i'm very disappointed in my purchase.
Takata recall. my complaint is the severe hesitation with my car when taking off. i bought my vehicle 09/20/2013. it is a 2014 ford focus. when we first got the vehicle the hesitation was not noticeable at first, but after a few months of driving it, it started doing it. we took it back to ford and they suppose to have did something to rectify the issue. it was okay for awhile, but now it is doing the hesitation more worst now than it was the first time. it is to the point trying to go up a hilly road takes a minute because the car is not taking off right away. basically it takes it a few minutes to get in gear. i did not know it was a recall until i visit a ford dealership; looking at another car. the salesman informed me and then i looked it up on the nhsta website. i never received anything from ford alerting me of a recall. this issue with the hesitation is really annoying, especially now that it has gotten worse.
My car shutters when i accelerate. the problem has become progressively worse and i am concerned about the longevity/safety of my vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving 60 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 10,000.
Takata recall i bought my 2014 ford focus during my first year of college. i started to notice the cars clutch slipping immediately. after persistently taking the car to the dealership about the issue for a year, ford finally admitted there was an issue with the car and that they would get me in the list for a new clutch. they (i assume intentionally) prolonged the process just long enough to escape the lemon law. within a month of having my clutch replaced i started to notice it slipping. i have not had the clutch replaced again because i feel there is no point. i need to sell my car and get a new one that i feel safe driving, but i am upside down on my loan. i will never buy from ford again.
When i am at a complete stop and i attempt to accelerate, my ford jerks rapidly. in order to drive the vehicle i have to press on the gas forcibly in order to accelerate to a normal speed limit. after several attempts to complain to the orginal dealership metro ford on noland road of the issue i was told that it was a shudder transmission problem. the ford dealership will not solve the issue and although they stated they reset the issue they try to convince me that it is normal when in fact it is not. this vehicle is an extreme hazard and unsafe to drive for me and my children. i am afraid it will stall at a busy intersection in the future.
While driving it feels like engine is falling out. the whole car vibrates. like its stalling out when you take off and it takes a long time to get up and going. i have taken the car to lakeland ford for a seal kit that was back ordered 6-8 weeks in 2015 in 2016 i had to have another seal kit also back ordered 6-8 weeks they did transmission module replacement and much more i've taken this car back for the same issue multiple times andhavebeen told it's not a lemon l!
I was driving my vehicle thru a hospital parking lot with my father in the car going about 3-5 mph. i pressed the gas pedal and the engine reved high but car did not move. it was as if in neutral even though the car was in drive. made an appt at the ford service departmant, but a day before the appt i was pulling out of my neighborhood onto a main road when it "hesitated" so badly that i was almost tboned. service said it needed a software update. they said that they recorded slippage and that with the update it should be fine. the car since then has continued to hesitate and shift roughly. it rolls back on hills not stopping until either momentum runs out or i press the brake. it has even gone backwards on a flat surface while ideling. i almost hit another vehicle! i have taken it in multiple times-- they tell me its all normal that i need to learn how to drive the car. that they can't duplicate the issue. while at the dealership each time several other focus owners came in with similar problems. they refuse to help. they want to up my payments by 100 bucks just to swap to a safer car. i even spoke to a corporate manager. she did nothing except speak down to me. i finally sent in the official notice about claiming its a lemon. something needs to be done. *js
2014 ford focus se has a hesitation on acceleration (perhaps transmission or engine computer) that has on multiple occasions while merging into heavy traffic, creating hazardous situation. *mw the consumer stated several reprogram functions were performed by the dealer. the consumer stated frequently, on a cold start-up, when he shifted from reverse to drive the vehicle hesitated briefly as if it was not in the correct gear. *jb
Took my car to the ford dealership, for the 5times . to be looked at again for all the problems i am having and they stated they found the problem, like every time, with the shuddering and hesitation i was experiencing. they have reprogrammed, and replaced the clutch and computer and asked that i drive it again for a bit and see if the problem returns. the problems still remains the same, with no help from dealership, they just keep making excuses, refusing to face the problem, they told me after my 5th trip and waist of time to think about a new car, my car is barely even 11 months old. the last time it was service they didn't even put back in the oil plug, for an oil change i didn't even receive, my car is worst everyday, i have bought 4 vehicles mfri! this dealership and if they don't face the facts and fix it its going to be my last , i can't depend on my car , i don't want to be stranded and the safety hazards for these same issues are ridiculous, i should not have to feel threatened or afraid to drive my own car . everytime i start !y car and start to go , i have to worry if !y car is going to get stuck in gear and accelerate or not stop at all, resulting in an accident or worse. *tr
