We have classified the 948 complaints from 2014 Ford Focus about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
As there are many lawsuits against ford right now for the dps6 transmissions, i find it quite absurd that there has been no recall made in this matter. i have a 2014 ford focus that has almost killed my children and myself countless times. often times the vehicle will hesitate when i try to pull out somewhere and often times will surge forward. when trying to pull hills it is a nightmare, if you do not take it at a higher rate of speed it will bog down and then take off out of nowhere. when i took it in before 100k miles i was told they couldn't replace the clutch in the transmission because i was out of my mileage coverage and then not long after i reached 100k miles they extend the warranty to 100k. this particular car has now had three clutches put in and it drives like a nightmare. no wonder why the 1st owner gave up on it after 33k miles and 2 clutches later! what needs to happen is someone other than people that are for the dealer need to drive it. i will give you full consent and urge you to drive mine and tell me if you would truly want your loved ones driving or riding in such an unsafe vehicle! this vehicle started having problems at 14k miles! you can look at carfax to see two of the clutches that were replaced and the other clutch was done at ken wilson ford in canton, nc and i have all of my records at home as to how many times i have taken it in for this issue. i stopped after the last time when they told me it was out of warranty coverage because i can not afford to pay to have that done. if you have any questions please call me at [xxx] or email at [xxx] thank you for your time! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Car was taken to ford dealership to have the recalls done for the transmission, fuel tank evap and door latch. ford completed the recalls for the fuel system and door latch at this poticular time the transmission was not fixed.(did not pass fords shutter test). at this time the check engine light was on because of the transmission, according to the ford dealership. i picked the car up amd drove with my son the vehicle did not drive right because transmission issues. i contacted the dealership again after contacting ford motor company about my concern with the drivability of the car. i made an appointment but had to wait approximately three weeks because they were replacing the floor in their shop. the check engine light remained on the entire time until the appointment. after dropping he car off and ford diagnosing the problem, i received a call saying ford motor is now covering the transmission and they will have to wait for parts to finish it. at this time they also informed me that the check engine light is now on because of the purge valve. i had barely driven the car since the last visit when the recalls were taken care of?? they stated that the purge valve would not be covered because the recall had been completed on the fuel tank. reluctantly i told them to replace at my cost. the dealership called to say the vehicle was complete. i picked it up that evening and made it 7 miles away from the dealer and the check engine light came on once again. i called the dealer immediatley to let them know and they could not get me in right away. my son and i took it for a ride the following day and approximaty 40 miles the car lost power and could not go above 40mph on the interstate. i called to make another appointment when they diagnosed this time both catylitic convertors are bad and will cost $2100 to repair. what caused these to go bad this was not an issue until reca
Clutch malfunction. gear slipping. not shifting properly.
For at least the last three years the vehicle experienced short periods of non-starting. in october, 2019 the car would not start period. previous it was able to start after moving the shifter from park to drive and back and sometime using the remote start. the october issue required towing to north county ford in vista, ca. after five days, it was determined the transmission had failed and needed repalcement. after replacement the non-starting issue resolved, but in the last three weeks it has returned. i have not had any issues while the vehicle is moving.
Transmission work temporarily in reverse. then reverse goes out completely. i'm about to take the vehicle back for repair the 5th time. and i'm very frustrated and mad. that i can't drive it. i want another vehicle or be compensated me a check for the vehicle so i can get another one without any problems.
I was driving along the highway 80 in the left hand lane , ready to pass a semi truck when the car lost all power from the engine a light came on and it read engine default service now ok , as all power was shut down . i was then forced to go to the emergency lane . i was almost ran over by two semi trucks coming from the right side of highway 80. i had it serviced at phil long ford chappel hills in colorado springs and they wanted $4500 to fix it .
I was driving on a city street. came to a stop at a light and someone on a bicycle came by. while my foot was on the brake my rpm's shot way high and my car tried to drive itself forward. luckily the bike rider had gone by. but could easily have been hit if my car did what it tried to do. i have been honked at and high beamed when i try to pass someone on a highway and i end up with little to no power and the person behind me nearly rear ends me because my car wont go. why does it feel like someone has to tragically die before someone does something about these ford focus' on the road. these cars are not safe. ford knew that, there is proof they knew that and made them anyway. its your job as highway safety to make them liable and get better standards before cars are sent to distribution. there should be more prevention than there is correcting. don't wait for someone to get hurt before deciding these cars are bad and unsafe. that should be a basic human reaction. not a corporate one. i have sent two videos i took. one of my rpms sporadically going up and down and my car not shifting or having power. and the other my rpm's going up as i'm coming to a stop. which is not normal. it should not try to rev itself as i'm slowing down to an almost complete stop. i guess i cant upload the type of video i have. but i'd be happy to send them another way if you'd like.
Took my focus in to have a customer satisfaction recall clutch replacement for the automatic transmission. i experienced bad jerking and acceleration issues. the dealer replaced the clutch 2 1/2 months ago. i'm now at the dealer with my engine light on on and severely bad jerking and shifting issues again. the dealership diagnostic says i need 2 transmission shift levers replaced (levers a &b) cost in excess of $1000. this transmission as a whole is defective. why is ford getting away with this???
Tcm replaced 66,550, clutch pack replaced 68,148, and complete communication failure between the throttle and transmission, tonight at 82,000 miles, i fully opened the throttle pedal down, and transmission failed to give me any acceleration for 3-5 seconds.this almost caused a bad situation tonight. radiator replaced at 77,600, coolant still drops to the min- line. no reasoning on where the coolant is going.
I will begin with my concern and then proceed to give you my back story. i was almost involved in a very real broadside collision with an 18-wheeler and another ford f-150 about two weeks ago. i was making a left turn with oncoming traffic when the vehicle failed to shift into second gear through the turn. the best way i can describe this is the feeling/noise we've all had learning to drive with a manual transmission and you miss the gear. the vehicle was stuck in neutral and the engine was reaching the rev limiter. i thought i was going to die. i'm very fortunate in the fact that the oncoming vehicles were able to come to a complete stop. i had to put my car in park, then put it back in gear to get it going again.the car just reached 55,000 miles and i've had to bring the vehicle in for warranty work on the clutch assembly five times since purchasing the vehicle. i have been told by the various service managers both to 'drive the hell outta the thing' to wear in the clutch properly. i've been conversely told to 'drive like a grandma' in order to wear in the clutch properly. i have spoken to the service manager about my safety concern and he states there is nothing they can do 'at the dealership level' and encouraged me to reach out to ford consumer affairs. his next offer was to 'sit me down with one of the salesman' in order to 'get me into something better'. i'm not in a financial position to 'get into something better'. i had planned on keeping this car for another 2-3 years at least. this would get me through school and as my income potential increased, i planned to trade my focus towards a larger vehicle. i want to reiterate that i do not feel safe driving my car, especially with a baby in it. the car continues to jump out of gear, leaving the vehicle powerless at random times, despite recent clutch replacements, especially in the cold weather.
Had to have 4 or 5 different transmission services done under warranty to resolve harsh shifting, erratic shifting, bucking etc. inluding total clutch rebuilds, software flashes, and total tcm replacement and the issue is still not resolved.
Took ford focus to an estimator at the ford dealership taylor ford and reported a major transmission issue. they stated its a fee in advance and it is only looking into one issue called module only the rest would be on us including fee to have this issue/ recall looked at. now we have no trans and have been told this is a real and yet concealed issue by ford and all their employees ? what the heck, we were almost killed on thanksgiving and vehicle we were riding in would not shift.
The car slipped to neutral without any warning while driving 65 mph. i was lucky that no one was behind me or i would have got rear ended and get killed or maybe the other driver would have been killed.
I was driving my car home on the freeway november 19, 2019. going about 65 mph and it started shifting weird. i made it home hooked it up to the computer got the codes and it was all related to the transmission control module. the transmission control module was recalled on my car last year and the dealer fixed it. i took it back to the dealer they had it for about a week, called and told me they replace the transmission control module again however there was more damage. its transmission problems it needs a new clutch assembly, slave cylinder and 2 clutch release levers. they told me this was my fault and it would cost me about $2000. i take very good care of my car i didn't have any problems prior to this. i can't afford the $2000 right now and i'm still making payments on my car every month. dealership has all the info on their file.
Transmission slips from 1st gear to 2nd creating a dangerous jerky acceleration. it has almost got me rear ended. in traffic i was accelerating and it wouldn't short into second correctly. when it did it sent me jerking forward when traffic was stopping forcing me to hit the brakes hard and created a chain reaction which the car behind me nearly hit me. i was sent a notice stating it's a known issue and ford would fix it at no cost. when i bring it in they are refusing to fix it because of its branded title. the nhtsa needs to make this a mandatory safety recall so ford will be forced to fix this known issue so they can stop weaseling their way out of repairs that endanger customers safety.
The vehicle was purchased on august 11, 2019 from ourisman chrysler dodge jeep ram of bowie. a few days after, i started noticing issues with acceleration, deceleration, and fuel gauge issues with the vehicle. i went back to the dealership and i was told that fixing the fuel tank recall and transmission warranty extension on the vehicle will fix the issues. i took off a day from work and took to ourisman ford & lincoln in alexandria, virginia. after several hours of waiting, i was told that i will have to drop it off another day because some part(s) will be ordered. about a week after, i dropped it off and it stayed for over 3 days. i was told that everything was okay. perhaps, just about 1000 miles of driving in about 6 weeks after the repair, i almost had an accident due almost sudden stop on the highway on friday, november 1, 2019. i was driving at about 60mph when the vehicle almost stopped with the alert 'transmission fault service now'. i managed to pull off the road, turned of the engine and turned it on after about 20 minutes and the alert came up again. i drove at no more 20mph with the hazard lights on to my home. i scheduled appointment with darcars ford in lanham md to drop it off on monday, november 4, 2019. i am complaining because i have owned this for less than 90 days but i have gone through a whole lot. now it's becoming clear that the dealership knew, concealed and sold a severely useless vehicle that almost took my life. i am frustrated because the absence of a vehicle will obstruct my work, my son's school and all our medical appointments for the week. i sincerely need help... *tr
Typical ford focus transmission clutch failure. shuddering, jerking, etc., in initial acceleration. purchased vehicle used on 9/2/17. took it in to dealer for transmission issue on 9/12/17. dealer replaced clutch, according to the invoice, under warranty. vehicle started having same issue, though very slight compared to first time, around 10/19. went to dealer mid-november 2019. was given appointment for 12/3/19 for dealer to check transmission. picked up vehicle on 12/4/19. invoice states they replaced "seal asy.-oil 8138", "fluid-transm 5017", "clutch asy. 048090", "brake cleaner 21401". they also performed the recall repair - "18s32 fuel tank deformation recall", and, "18s32-a check for available pcm software update, no available software update, no parts replaced." the transmission is an ongoing issue with these vehicles. wanted to send this to nhtsa so there is a record of another one. will update in future should tranny fail again. still awaiting a formal recall on these things as it has been a known issue since the tranny was designed!
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and "transmission not in park" appeared on the message center. the vehicle would not restart. the failure occurred two other times. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who determined that the power train control module failed and needed replacement. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 64,000.
Check engine light came on yesterday out of nowhere. car started jerking bad as i took off. slowly but getting worse til i had to stop. then didn't wanna crank back up. strange. so we hear a loud ticking noise .. this is with keys out of the car ignition.... i put keys in , still nothing. eventually it crank but no reverse. god help me!!!!!!!!!!!
Vehicle loses power to the point of almost stalling out, and then surges forward, spinning the back tires. this happened on a hill, and i was almost hit by the car behind me! the rpm's rev way up and the engine won't shift. the car shudders and jerks and won't get going upon take off. this happened several times at an intersection/stop light, and i am afraid i am going to be rear ended. the car will not get going when it's supposed to.
When i put the car into drive after reversing out of my driveway, it would shift into drive but the car wouldn't go
While coasting the vehicle can't decide to downshift or go into neutral. car hesitates from a dead stop when there is passengers.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the transmission shuddered and hesitated to move forward. the contact stated that the transmission warning indicator illuminated prior to the failure. the contact took the vehicle to selinsgrove ford (10 n susquehanna trail, selinsgrove, pa 17870, (570) 374-8131) where the vehicle was initially repaired under warranty; however, the failure continued. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was unknown.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus the vehicle independently accelerated the contact was almost involved in a crash the contact was concerned about the transmission and a problem with shuddering while diving while driving at 25 mph, the vehicle independently accelerated with the rpm's redlined. the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle fishtailed to a stop. the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed. additionally, the vehicle experienced a hesitation when the accelerator pedal was depressed on several occasions. on one other occasion while driving at 10 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the contact stated that the vehicle was scheduled to receive field service action number: 19n08 (power train). the vehicle was not repaired. john sang ford lincoln, 195 upper river rd, gallipolis, oh 45631, (800) 272-5179, was contacted by phone to have the field service campaign performed. the manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. a case number was not provided. the approximate failure mileage was 97,000.
Have been experiencing major jerking and stuttering when car change from 1st to 2nd gear. really have to press on gas for it to accelerate. very dangerous for when trying to merge lanes on freeway. it has shut off twice on different occasions and would not restart. check engine light just turned on at 89,000 miles. extremely uncomfortable with driving it due to these problems. there were occasions where i could not accelerate and cars were close to crashing into me.
My 2014 focus is part of the group of cars that has a terrible clutch slippage problem. it's so bad that ford has offered to replace the clutch on extended warranty through a customer satisfaction program. only one problem, because my car has a restored salvage title, that program doesn't include me. ford has replaced this clutch once a while back, the car had a restored title then as well. so this clutch that is bad is the replaced clutch that should have a warranty regardless of the title status of the car. if this had been listed as a recall, it would have covered me, but because it's called a "customer satisfaction program" they won't cover me. ford claims they came to that consensus with the help of the nhsta, if this is so, please extend the clutch coverage to people like me! we have the same problem clutch as cars with a clean title, and the clutch didn't go back because of an accident! it's a terrible product that ford discontinued for good reason. please reconsider and make this a recall.......
I was sent paper work for a recall from ford motors (19n08 ) ref: my transmission clutch being faulty clutch shuddering which happen numerous times and causing it to feel like the car would stop right there. i called my ;local ford dealer ref: this recall and was given a schedule time for repair. they checked the focus and found its transmission had the above problem and need to be fixed . they replaced the clutch parts. when it came time to pick up my call i was told i had to pay the bill to retrieve my car back. $1088 that ford was not going to pay the repair cost. i called ford and was told my car has branded title salvage.i didnt know what that meant before the repair. ford customer service### told me they use a third party to send notices of my vin. and they didnt see the salvage repaired on my title, thats how i received the recall.
The car started excessively jerking while driving at 45 mph. the car selected the wrong gear and could have killed someone. this car is dangerous to drive. the car had new clutches that are 7 months old. the car drove home but would not crank or start at all the next day. there was a red engine light on the dash. the tcm and the clutch pack has been replaced but the car is not fixed. it still rive the same way.
Just got another letter from ford extending warrant on parts. at 80k transmission, from take off still pulls ans jerks, hesitates, and finally lunges, can't even pass on freeway. it's a safety hazard.
Received a notice for a clutch repair, bringing in on friday. car still shudders at slow speeds, and jerks into gear. when backing up on incline driveway, car rolls back.
Vehicle shudder while accelerating from stop. 1st to 2nd gear. preexisting condition from manufacturer
I only drive once per week, still shuddering with lack of power. car actually decelerates on incline, really have to get on gas.
Takata recall. my car was stationary when the check engine light came on. i was able to slowly get home once i got past two rpm's car drives fine. before you get to two rpms, the car will stall, jerk, shake. car died at intersection when i had to make complete stop, started shaking terrible bad was able to turn off the engine off and turn it back on barely making it through the intersection again once you go past two rpms speed is fine symptoms disappear. going through another major intersection car almost stalled in the middle of the intersection almost causing a t-bone accident. this is a very dangerous car .
I was told upon purchase that my vehicle was supposed to shudder and lunge, i was not informed of the severity of the recalls and the transmission issues. my car is unsafe to drive as it has trouble switching gears, and i fear pulling into traffic. when getting it fixed the ford dealership, bill collins ford in louisville ky refused a curiously vehicle for the 7-10 days it is estimated they will need to 'repair' my transmission
Ford should give me a new transmission, can't even get to la from hollister. the vehicle still has no power, and is slipping and hesitating like crazy.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle did not respond when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the contact merged to the shoulder and then kept driving until the desired speed of 65 mph was reached. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
Takata recall. on the date of 9/4/19 while backing out of my driveway onto a main street, my car stalled as i shifted my gear into drive. the check engine light immediately turned on after. i then pressed the gas pedal after shifting into drive to move my car from impeding traffic but the car would not move. i proceeded to get out of the car and push the car to a safe area. after, i turned off and on my car hoping this would just be a minor electrical mistake but when i turned the engine back on, the car would take approximately 15 seconds (while pressing on the gas pedal) to jolt forward and proceed to drive in a jittery manner. while driving to my nearest mechanic, the car continued to stutter, while the gas pedal and acceleration did not correspond with each other. upon arriving to my mechanic i was notified that i may still have warranty on my ford vehicle. i was then told by ford dealership that i had around 6 or 7 recalls on my vehicle, one being transmission. i was unaware of this nor did i receive any notification that most of these recalls were called on my vehicle. after talking with the ford service assistant he stated they were unable to fix my transmission fully but only replace the parts that was recalled for the vehicle (transmission module). i was at risk of a very back car accident due to the fords recalls and the lack of their ability to make their customers aware of these problems. i am very upset and would like to have my car's transmission fixed as soon as possible.
Ford customer satisfaction program 19n08 is an extended warranty for the clutch. the letter states it is a one time repair program. however, when i reached out to ford the system said there was no further information on the program. the trouble is my vehicle has already had a clutch replacement and the problem still exists. so if ford allows for only a one time repair then those vehicles that still experience delayed acceleration, shudder, bucking, and kicking after a clutch replacement will not be covered. the idea that ford is extending the warranty for a one time repair shows the company may leave people with vehicles that do not function properly. my vehicle is one that falls into this category.
The car has been stalling, jerking, jumping and skipping every time i accelerate. i have taken the car to the dealers more than 4 or 5 times since i bought it in 2014! they told me those cars will do that. wrong! i have all the paperwork of how many times i have taking it for the same thing. the car continues to shudders at slow speeds, and jerks into gear. when backing up on incline street/driveway, rolls back. when accelerating in a highway is dangerous as the car does not respond and making it a safety hazard when shifting lanes, entering on intersections or highway. the problem continues after taking if to the dealer many times.
The vehicle will shudder while driving (city and highway), hesitate significantly when accelerating, has died in the roadway, has been in gear but would not accelerate, and jumps in and out of gear while traveling down the road. i took it to the dealer and they advised that both clutch actuators are defective. this is not in relation to any prior recalls. was advised this is also a major issue that the dealer service department sees. this began happening several months ago and they want an outrageous amount to fix it. major safety issue because people do not want to pay the high fee so these cars are staying on the road.
I began having problems with the check engine light coming on. before i could get it diagnosed i was on the road going about 35 miles per hour when i completely lost power. it felt as if the transmission had just switch to neutral and i was giving gas but going nowhere. i was able to pull off to the side of the road put the car in park and turn it off. when i turned it back on i was able to put the car in drive and carry on. a few days later i was on the highway going almost 70 miles per hour when i suddenly completely lost power again. i was able to pull off the side of the highway but it was fairly terrifying to be in the middle of traffic and all of a sudden not have power. it could have been disastrous. i finally got the car restarted and turned around and went back home. during this time i received a letter about a warranty extension all the transmission control module. i made an appointment with my local ford dealer and they changed the module. i drove it to work after a few days and had the same issue again. i was told it must be a ba d module so they put in a new 1. now have issues with the check engine light coming on that can't be resolved. that is how the transmission issues started originally. i don't trust to take this car on a trip. it only has about 68000 miles on it but i have lost faith in it. what if my daughter or my wife were driving it and this happened. i can't imagine.
The ford focus i own was manufactured in 2014 with a known transmission problem. the manufacture alongside their franchises know about this issue yet they still refuse to repair it.
I was driving on the highway and the car just stopped getting gas or responding to me it dropped speed dramatically as a simi was behind me which read oversized load and i was going up hill so i was trying to try my hardest to get in the emergency lane then the engine light popped on fooling a warning of my transmission was hot to stop. i was terrified i had my 2 kids in the back and they were scared also i thought for sure we were going to die that mourning. i'm to scared to drive that car or any other car after going threw that. it's in the shop now but the dearship is already trying to tell me the bill for stuff. i'm confused and vary aggravated thanks to all that i dont know what to do being a single dad trying to do good. this happened on i-25 north bound near highway 66 mead exit. colorado
Been having issues with transmission. it has been replaced 3 times. today transmission revved up to 4000 rpm then stuttered and completely shut off while traveling on the freeway going 70mph. not the first time this has happened. going to shop tomorrow. not looking forward to spending $1500 a fourth time.
Car will show "stop safely now" warning and completely shut off all controls at highway speeds. that car does not allow you to move it out of the fast lane or any lane. there is no way to move the car to safety once the warning activates. very dangerous situation.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline). the contact stated while her daughter was driving 30 mph, the vehicle hesitated. the driver was able to park on the side of the road. the check engine warning light was illuminated. the contact stated the failure was intermittent. the vehicle was taken to local dealer holmes tuttle ford lincoln located at 660 w auto mall dr, tucson, az 85705, (866) 930-6255, where it was diagnosed. the contact was informed that the transmission and clutch forks to be replaced. the contact stated the dealer replaced the clutch forks but declined to complete recall repairs. the manufacturer was informed of the failure. the failure mileage was 113,711.
Car shudders and shakes at high speed. it does not go into gear and rpms are over 6500. i must step on brake to get car to shift gears. car completely lost power on freeway twice at 55 mph. car was towed to dealer and transmission control module was replaced. transmission has been replaced five times. car makes cranking noises in reverse. car rolls backwards when taking off brake on hill and would hit someone if they were behind me. car makes cranking noises on streets and when engine is off and key is taken out of car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving various speeds, the vehicle violently vibrated. also, the vehicle vibrated when started and coolant was discovered leaking from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to lindsay ford (11250 veirs mill rd, wheaton, md 20902, (888) 457-7005) where the water pump was replaced; however, the failure recurred. the contact planned to take the vehicle back to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 59,000.
There had been over 30 occurrences of having problems with my car not being able to properly shift into the right gear. i have had the clutch replaced 5 times but it has not fixed the shifting. i've ran into issues at stop signs and stop lights of almost getting into accidents because my car won't properly go into the gear or shift correctly. more recently, 3 months ago; my car turned off and would not run back on. when taking it into ford they stated they had no reason why this occurred and had no explanation for me.
Down shifts and stalls out in traffic without warning.engine light comes on and engine shuts off.
