I was driving along the highway 80 in the left hand lane , ready to pass a semi truck when the car lost all power from the engine a light came on and it read engine default service now ok , as all power was shut down . i was then forced to go to the emergency lane . i was almost ran over by two semi trucks coming from the right side of highway 80. i had it serviced at phil long ford chappel hills in colorado springs and they wanted $4500 to fix it .
On my way home, the car began to make a clickety clackety noise. it sounded like a belt was out of alignment. i pulled into the driveway and popped the hood. i watched the bottom gear wheel break off the engine. the engine immediately stopped. had i been on the road, it could have been tragic. in the attached photo, you can see the metal ripped clean off at all three locations.
I was driving on a city street. came to a stop at a light and someone on a bicycle came by. while my foot was on the brake my rpm's shot way high and my car tried to drive itself forward. luckily the bike rider had gone by. but could easily have been hit if my car did what it tried to do. i have been honked at and high beamed when i try to pass someone on a highway and i end up with little to no power and the person behind me nearly rear ends me because my car wont go. why does it feel like someone has to tragically die before someone does something about these ford focus' on the road. these cars are not safe. ford knew that, there is proof they knew that and made them anyway. its your job as highway safety to make them liable and get better standards before cars are sent to distribution. there should be more prevention than there is correcting. don't wait for someone to get hurt before deciding these cars are bad and unsafe. that should be a basic human reaction. not a corporate one. i have sent two videos i took. one of my rpms sporadically going up and down and my car not shifting or having power. and the other my rpm's going up as i'm coming to a stop. which is not normal. it should not try to rev itself as i'm slowing down to an almost complete stop. i guess i cant upload the type of video i have. but i'd be happy to send them another way if you'd like.
Everytime i pump gas in my car and i turn it back on , it wants to die immediately. one time it took about 5 tries before it actually worked. i had just gotten the recall done for the fuel tank where it was reprogrammed so it can detect an issue with the canister purge valve. and now my engine hesitates to start.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the fuel pump and regulator failed and caused the vehicle to stall while driving. also, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to tom denchel ford hermiston sales & leasing (555 s hwy 395, hermiston, or 97838, (855) 878-9342) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump and regulator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and was still at the dealer. the contact stated that the clutch was replaced four times. the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the vin was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was approximately 91,000. the vin was invalid.
My ford focus had two separate mechanics look at it before purchasing pess than one year ago. passed all inspections car was fine and then all of a sudden wouldnt start at all. altenator and battery checked. to start car, i had to take extension cord from house to car to use a battery charger. i could drive it from place to place but could not turn car off bc it not starting again. i drove like this for two months. no warning lights, no weird sounds. i tried replacing battery and problem continued. replaced battery. was driving and in the middle of an intersection, car wouldnt go. almost was hit. cars had to swerve to miss me. was in an accident when car wouldnt accelerate quickly at.light. hit from behind and passenger had to be taken by ambulance. received two recall letters in the mail. one regarding emissions and one regarding the clutch. when i tried to back car out of lot, wouldnt go in reverse. then the trans light came on with the check engine light. we pushed it out of spot an it drove until i tried to accelerate, car wouldnt go. car had all tuneups, oil changes, all maintenance routinely done. when speaking with university ford on a recorded convo, told me the recall effected my car & that they installed a new trans module but the trans itself had to be replaced. qupted 7,000$. warranty according to ford is for clutch problem. then why replace trans module? told me to call customer service. told me to make claim &get a trans extended coverage claim. i've called but haven't heard back. now ihave car at dealership dont have 7,000$ or $ to even tow it away from there. i'm on disability and having severe medical problems & a7 yr old with special needs eoth limited resources. for a company that stands american values, they fall short. very angry. (should've bought a chevy)
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the engine fault warning indicator illuminated. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the parts for the recall remedy were not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time to repair the vehicle. harold zeigler ford (11979 fulton st e, lowell, mi 49331, (800) 646-4660) was contacted and stated that the next available appointment was october 28, 2019. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was unknown. vin tool confirms parts not available.
Have been experiencing major jerking and stuttering when car change from 1st to 2nd gear. really have to press on gas for it to accelerate. very dangerous for when trying to merge lanes on freeway. it has shut off twice on different occasions and would not restart. check engine light just turned on at 89,000 miles. extremely uncomfortable with driving it due to these problems. there were occasions where i could not accelerate and cars were close to crashing into me.
Car stalls at will, gas gauge & miles to empty always wrong, low fuel indicator light never comes on and has huge problem w/ acceleration. it often shakes violently when i hit gas pedal, also takes forever to get up to speed. if it's not shaking violently then it just stalls, literally dies, will not restart. forget fuel gauge. not only is it always wrong, it changes at will. i go up or down a hill, gauge & miles to empty changes. low fuel indicator never lights up so who knows how much gas i have. last two times it stalled on highway at 65mph. engine just cut out, died & would not restart. has been to dealership 3 times in 3 weeks for same issues. first incident, kindle ford in cape may court house, nj had it 9 days over labor day holiday. finally advised repairs eligible under recall however waiting for parts, specifically fuel tank, which according to fedex was in transit. 'lucky for me' he said, finally had loaner available. i'm walking to get loaner when suddenly tech yells over that my car is done! what? he just said tank was in transit! reluctantly took my car only to have it die again. had it towed to kindle again and he said car started right up for him after he put gas in it. he implied i ran out of gas because gauge was pinned on empty. i had put gas in it that morning. gauge indicates it was low but it was not pinned on empty (see photo). and if that was the case, warning light never came on (see photo). now they are saying they can't fix it until they replicate problems for themselves. as if i was lying! car doesn't do it when they drive it so what do i do? i'm afraid to drive my own car but i have to go to work, etc. i just hope my son & i aren't killed when car unexpectedly stalls again while we are on the highway.
The car has been stalling, jerking, jumping and skipping every time i accelerate. i have taken the car to the dealers more than 4 or 5 times since i bought it in 2014! they told me those cars will do that. wrong! i have all the paperwork of how many times i have taking it for the same thing. the car continues to shudders at slow speeds, and jerks into gear. when backing up on incline street/driveway, rolls back. when accelerating in a highway is dangerous as the car does not respond and making it a safety hazard when shifting lanes, entering on intersections or highway. the problem continues after taking if to the dealer many times.
I was driving on the highway and the car just stopped getting gas or responding to me it dropped speed dramatically as a simi was behind me which read oversized load and i was going up hill so i was trying to try my hardest to get in the emergency lane then the engine light popped on fooling a warning of my transmission was hot to stop. i was terrified i had my 2 kids in the back and they were scared also i thought for sure we were going to die that mourning. i'm to scared to drive that car or any other car after going threw that. it's in the shop now but the dearship is already trying to tell me the bill for stuff. i'm confused and vary aggravated thanks to all that i dont know what to do being a single dad trying to do good. this happened on i-25 north bound near highway 66 mead exit. colorado
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving various speeds, the vehicle violently vibrated. also, the vehicle vibrated when started and coolant was discovered leaking from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to lindsay ford (11250 veirs mill rd, wheaton, md 20902, (888) 457-7005) where the water pump was replaced; however, the failure recurred. the contact planned to take the vehicle back to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 59,000.
Down shifts and stalls out in traffic without warning.engine light comes on and engine shuts off.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving various speeds, the vehicle failed to shift into gear and the service engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to hagerstown ford (1714 massey blvd, hagerstown, md 21740, (301) 733-3673) where it was diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: cas 24237271. the failure mileage was 85,000.
While driving in motion, i ramdonly get an alert that there is an engine malfunction, which then causes my car to have very little power when accelerating. if i come to a stop, then give it gas, it goes extremely slow, causing my rpm's to shoot up. my transmission is horrible while shifting. its sputters, hesitates, jumps, and feels like it cant make up its mind on what gear to go in. and its only gotten worse. thre has been 3 different occasions where after stopping for gas, or being at work that i have shut my car off, and when i went to start it up again, it wouldnt. it woulndt even turn over. after trying several times, it would finally start. whatever is causing all of these problems, is also draining my battery as i had to get a new one after just over 2 years. a battery is supposed to last 5 years. ford said only 3-5 and therefore would not cover it since i was supposedly coming up on the 3rd year. which i was not. i do not feel safe in this car. and i now have a newly turned 16 y/o daughter whos just is about to learn how to drive. and i should not feel its unsafe for her to have to learn in this vehicle i have a few more years to pay on it and it wouldnt benefit me to sell or trade in at this point. i have attached a picture of the second time i got this engine alert. i can't exactly take a picture of how my car drives or how the transmission shifts. if i can send video's, i'd be happy to do so if it would help.
O2 sensors not set to ready. unable to pass emissions as a result. taken to ford to flash ecm. did not correct issue. have read on other forums of other drivers with this issue as well.
I purchased a used ford focus in july of 2016 from joe machens capital ford in jefferson city, mo. it was sold with a 100000 mile warranty and had 20,725 miles on the odometer. within 24 hours of driving it home to rolla, mo i started noticing a shudder and shake while driving the car. i was unsure what was going on and called the dealership only to be told this was normal due to the type of clutch installed in the ford focus and not to worry about what i was experiencing. this went on for some time and grew progressively worse. i received a recall on the shuddering problem which i learned was actually a clutch issue. i took my car to the local ford dealership in rolla to have the clutch assembly replaced for the first time on 9/21/16. it should be noted the previous owner had the transmission control module replaced on 2/8/15 and replaced again on 8/3/15 at the jefferson city, mo dealership. after having the clutch assembly replaced in rolla it was only a matter of weeks before the problem was back - shuddering, jerking, sounds like a chain being dragged underneath the motor or gravel crunching, and sometimes, even had the car hesitate or completely stop in the middle of the road. the car was in motion each time i experienced the above situations. it does it upon take off, while driving, up hills, pulling out into traffic, etc. it has had the same problems day after day except for maybe hours after having it in the shop. i drive my car for work every day and was not able to have it back in the shop until january of 2018 to have the clutch assembly replaced again along with some other recall work that was done at the same time. when i picked the car up after the repairs were made a second time i was given a printout of operating characteristics of the powershift 6-speed transmission. what a load of crap that was.
My vehicle has at multiple times lost acceleration power at high way speeds and had a transmission warning flash on, causing myself to have to stop on the interstate and attempt to coast to the shoulder amid highway speed vehicles. i have also lost acceleration power going uphill, and my vehicle shudders at acceleration which makes it hard to merge on and off the highway or to turn at intersections, as i can't get guarantee my car won't hesitate and cause a collision, my car also sometimes accelerated forward in stopped traffic, so i always am super wary in stop go traffic. all of these problems typically occur when i am attempting to accelerate or decelerate. multiple transmission repairs with same issue. still happening to date.
My car engine would not shut off!
Often when driving, the transmission will shudder, specifically with hitting the gas. i'm often concerned about turning up front of cars as it shudders before finally going. this has been continual with this vehicle
Dps6 powershift. i was at a very busy big intersection..right in the middle of it the car slips/jerks like it put itself in neutral and would not accelerate at all..a transfer truck was coming and barely got stopped almost t boned me on driverside with my son in the car. please tell me how this is not a safety concern?? does someone have to die for the nhtsa or ford to take this seriously?? this has went on for way to long for nothing to be done about it. no matter how dangerous it is to me, my family, and other drivers i have no choice but to drive it. it's our only vehicle and we still owe 11,000 on it and it's only worth 3,000. i have to leave a hour early for every trip bc i know i'm going to be stuck on the side of the rd literally every 5 min...or worse in the middle of an intersection. something needs to be done about this...i am begging you!!!
After 2 visit to ford they stated that i needed to wait for a letter in order for them to replace parts they have. the car is running lean bank 1. when fueling, it stalls. it has stalled while drive on a few occasions. the fuel itself, goes quick, now that the problem has persisted. getting under the car, fuel tank looks deformed as well and the code i get in the car is p0171. it's been close to year since it's started and i still has not received a letter.
This car hesitates and jerks from a stopped position. there is a rattle as the car starts moving. on two occasions, while merging uphill into traffic, the car stalled. on several other occasions, it came close to stalling. i've taken it to the dealer several times over the years and they tell me there is nothing wrong. when i get the car back from being repaired, the 'check engine' light comes back on after a week or two. i can't answer your question below about when it happened. it happens all the time.
As of 07/16/19 ford has put 7 clutches in this vehicle. we are scheduled for an other app. on 07/18/19. the problem is back, i believe this this is the third trip back since the last clutch was put in. ford keeps saying it's not back enough to replace, but when you look at the paper work it says they readjusted the clutch, each time. i don't understand this because if you look at the mileage in and out of the shop it's the same. how can they say the problem not there. if they don't drive it? it's to the point now that you don't dare try to pass or go by another car because it hesitates so bad and the tec meter will jump to 5/5 1/2 before it drops down and shifts gears. it's like driving a car with a standard transmission and the clutch isn't out far enough.
I serviced my focus on 5/29/19 for recalls. they performed a multi point inspection. everything normal. 6/09/19, i was driving down city street 40mph driving straight the car down shifted suddenly and a warning " transmission faulty, service now" came on. i was able to drive it home , the car wouldnt shift into a higher gear. i attached both services done . after the second service was done to my vehical it still shuddered when accelerating. 6/29/19 this occured twice the same day, i was waiting at an intersection making a left hand turn into a gas station, when it was safe to turn, i let my foot of the brake and my car inched forward while i hit gas and my car did not move, i was nearly hit both times , the last second with my foot on the gas all the way down to the floor, the car jerks into gear. ive called the dealership about fixing this issue , ive left messages with no call back, i finally got a service call set but not until july 30th. this has now occured almost everyday since 6/29/19. the car does not always do this , it seems to only do it if im below a half a tank , or the first 60 miles on a full tank. i fear for my safety driving this car that when i hit the gas the engine will just rev u[ and not move and get hit. the car always had a shudder when accelerating since we purchased it 1/12/16, but the sales person insisted with new fuel saving system that it was completely normal. i didnt have any major issues besides the shudder when accelerating, and when i would start my car up the first time after filling up, until i got the recall fixed, now ive had nothing but issues.
When shifting down from drive to park, my shift gets stuck in neutral or when i am shifting from park to reverse, i am unable to move the car into another gears. when i am at a stop light and the light turns green my car seems to stalls to take off. when i drive down the street the car acts like it wants to shut off. a ford truck almost hit me because the light was already green and my car stalled and would not go. i had my hazard lights and he swerved into another lane where the traffic was headed toward the truck. this very dangerous.
The vehicle had a recall on the transimission. i took the vehicle in for the recall. the vehicle ran good for about two months. the vehicle has started to slipe when i hit the gas, like it neeed more gas. if the gas padle if hit any harder, i going to push it throught the floor.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle shuttered, jerked, and failed to shift in and out of gear. the vehicle was slow to change gears at any given point without warning. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and failed to shift into reverse several times intermittently. in addition, the malfunction indicator lamp flashed. the vehicle was towed to david stanley ford of midwest city (6601 se 29th st, midwest city, ok 73110, (405) 733-1611) where it was diagnosed several times, but failed to provide a permanent remedy. the dealer later diagnosed that the transmission assembly needed to be replaced and the vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 13v523000 (power train). the contact stated that the failure that the vehicle exhibited was related to the recall campaign. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for further diagnostic testing. the failure mileage was not available.
Takata recall. my transmission as always been funny and two days ago my car started to roll back even when i was in position d. then the transmission started overheating and the engine light came on. i took the car to aamco to see what's wrong and the man said they get 2014 and 2015 focus cars often. the parts they need to replace are the clutch assembly, slave cylinder, and two mechanical actuators. along with pressure plate. i think this problem is common and someone should know. this is important because my transmission would overheat and i would have to pull over somewhere real quick to turn the car off and let it cool down. then my car would be hard to start after that. i had to do that a few times before i made it to the transmission shop that day.
While driving my 2014 ford focus on the highway, the car almost stalled during a backup in traffic. while normal driving the car lost power and the rpm gauge started dropping as the accelerator was been depressed further. while traffic to overtake on the highway the car actually slowed down while trying to go faster. the car behave like the transmission is having problems switching to lower gears.
The car randomly stalls and dies while i am driving it. it has died on the interstate and on rural roads and highways. this is very dangerous and there is currently a recall out on a part of the 2014 ford focus which causes this problem. it dies when i am driving and coasting, when i accelerate, and when i have my cruise set.
Car has stalled six times in one week transmission has shift to neutral while in drive when car stalls have to pull to side of road and put in park and restart transmission shudders no power very dangerous situation almost rear -ended by truck an engine malfunction service now message will display on message screen yesterday was by far the worst day engine dies pull to side of road put in park restart put in drive like it was in neutral turn car off restart put in drive very little power to transmission pull back over to side of road restart put in drive had power to transmission.will park vehicle until situation is resoved
2014 ford focus se. driving on highway. heard a loud sound. car began to lose power and the oil light began to flash. within seconds smoke and flames came from engine. front end was engulfed in flames within minutes. car had been to three shops prior and nothing was ever said about there being a problem. even was taken to ford dealership.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving approximately 50 mph, the transmission overheated and check engine warning indicators illuminated and the vehicle stalled. a message displayed on the instrument panel, indicating to wait five minutes to restart the vehicle. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code or reproduce the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. joe myers ford (located at 16634 northwest fwy, houston, tx 77040, (713) 766-3600) was contacted via telephone. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 109,000.
I took my car in for a recall a few months ago also mentioning that it has been saying it's overheating and they gave my car back saying nothing is wrong and now i've been driving with my newborn daughter and all of the sudden my car wouldn't go past 65 & then after it started working again my battery goes out i thought it was because the gas light had been on and so i called aaa and had someone come down they put in gas and got it started but to my dismay i wasn't even able to make it home seeing as how my car could barely accelerate and again it shut off at first i was driving on the freeway and when i slowed down to stop at a light my battery symbol went on and then the car shut off & after i got it working again it was working and then it slowed and would let me press the brakes anymore and since the. it won't start
Vehicle stalls as if it has lost power. engine light active. transmission affected due to vehicle not accurately shifting gears (i.e. drive to reverse or vice versa)

Multiply safety recalls and i took to 2 different dealerships, but dealerships refused to do or to fix my car. now my check engine light is on again. code reader has 2 codes 1450 and 144a. needs to be repaired, but dealership filed a false report stating the recalls were already done. it is not the case. the only recall that was done was for the door latches. the purse valve and fuel sensors still need to be fixed.

While in motion, engine light illuminated which was diagnosed as a failing catalytic converter - possibly due to contamination. ford focus had received an evap purge valve related recall just a few days earlier which still needed to be completed. the recall replaced components as per guidance but did not do anything about the catalytic converter which likely failed as a result of a failure linked to the prior recall (evap purge valve). many similar cases are to be found in forums online.
I bought a 2014 ford focus back in june of 2018. i had to have the transmission fixed a few days later due to an open recall. after that i had no issues. october 2018 i found out about the most recent recall with the cpv and such. since then, my car has not run good. it jerks, acts like it doesn't want to go, and my fuel reading is almost always wrong. i have two young children and am scared to drive my car. when i call my local dealership they tell me there's is no remedy available yet and to just keep it at under half a tank of gas. which is stupid since i can't get an accurate fuel reading! i can fill it completely full, drive one mile, then suddenly be on 3/4 tank. that's is ridiculous.
The vehicle idles rough, the transmission slips and the rpms get high in first and second gears, it takes forever to accelerate, the fuel gauge will say 100 miles till empty then die on you, i have been stranded 5 times in less than a year due to that, recently on 2/8/20 the car wouldn't accelerate in the middle of a busy intersection and proceeded to stall in the middle of the road. i had to literally push the car out of the intersection and into a store parking lot during 5pm traffic. i cannot believe this car received a 5 star safety rating, i feel a number of things about this model car and company but safe definitely is not one of them. doors that have defective latches, opening at anytime, transmission problems leading to cars constantly almost rear ending you, and a car that can stall in the middle of a busy intersection or freeway, is not by any means a definition of the word safe. i will never buy another ford again, and i will convince any else to not buy from a company that values profits over consumer safety by installing cheap, defective parts and components
My 2014 focus st stalls every time i come to a stop even with a full tank of gas due to a failing cpv which is part of the current ford recall 18v735. however ford has still not gotten a remedy and my car has been waiting almost almost 4 months now for this recall to be ready since it started.
The car turned completely off, engined light would come on and off, the car would stall and while driving on the interstate the acceleration didn't work and the car started moving backwards.
The car will be driving and when you go to accelerate it is like the car chugs and stutters before it will kick into gear, then i was driving and the front bottom spoiler or something fell off apparently the screws holding that and the plate under the engine fell out as i was driving i had to zip tie the plate to the bottom of car. this car has been my night mare since i purchased it in 2016 and i owe so much on it that trading it in would not even help.
While accelerating either uphill or at speeds above 45 the car will begin to shake. i was told to fix my camber and toe bars to alleviate the shaking of the car, my struts, and to replace my tires. neither of these solutions have helped this.
