We have classified the 1052 complaints from 2012 Ford Focus about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
The traction control in the vehicle operates in an unsafe manner in snowy road conditions. when climbing a slight grade in snow, the traction control continually reduces engine power to the point that the vehicle will no longer move forward. as the vehicle slows to a stop while modulating the accelerator, the engine will not rev above 1500rpm without the traction control cutting off power. controlled and sustained forward momentum is required for safe driving in snowy conditions. that is not possible when traversing typical roadway inclines in snowy weather with the traction control engaged. additionally, it takes no fewer than seven inputs from the driver to engage or disengage the traction control system; something that must be done frequently in this vehicle to keep it moving safely in snow. this creates undue driver distraction in already demanding driving conditions. a manufacturer retrofit of a simple on/off switch for the traction control system, as installed in most contemporary vehicles, should be the minimum remedy. *tr
Transmission shutters, feels like its skipping a gear, rolls backward down hill in drive. the vehicle's transmission, in the middle of an intersection, stalled and would not shift into a gear. this incident almost caused a wreck. *tr the vehicle has been at 3 different ford dealerships 7 different times for transmission issues. ford refuses to admit that there is a serious issue with the transmission and is making customers drive unsafe vehicles during the weeks that those vehicles aren't in the shop. *tr
The automatic transmission in the ford focus has a clutch that slips without warning. the car shudders and won't accelerate. i was almost hit when making a turn and the car shuddered and stopped in the middle of the turn. another driver had to take emergency evasive action to avoid hitting me. i took my car to the dealership and ford service says there is definitely a problem but they cannot fix it because they don't have parts and don't know when they will get the parts. ford acknowledges the problem is common and has extended the warranty to 150k miles but they cannot fix the problem so thousands of ford focus owners are driving unsafe cars. there has already been multiple accidents and injuries attributed to this problem but yet ford still does nothing to correct the unsafe condition. this agency should force ford to issue a safety recall before there are fatalities. it is just a matter of time before people lose their lives because of this defect in a ford vehicle has is affecting thousands of owners. extending the warranty is nice but ineffective so a mandatory safety recall is going to be necessary to make ford take action. the slipping is occurring more and more often yet ford is unable to fix the problem so i am forced to drive an unsafe car. time is of the essence to prevent more accidents, injuries, and possible fatalities. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving at various speeds, the engine stalled without warning. the vehicle was able to be restarted. approximately 30 seconds later, the engine stalled and did not restart. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the control module and the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired five times, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was inoperable. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 40,000. the vin was unavailable.
While the transmission does act different than a normal automatic i've never had any problems until now i was driving 35 mph and suddenly the car would not move forward any more the engine would just hits high rpms which is funny cause this car has never hit a high rpm while not in gear it has a rev limiter anyway i coasted to a stop i tried to use the sport option to get the transmission to shift nope so i turn the car off never to start again the transmission indicator on dash said car was in drive even though the shifter was in park my main concern here is with all of the complaint about this transmission and it would take me weeks to read them all why has the national highway traffic safety administration. has not issue a recall on this transmission that is still being put in new cars today and having the same problems and can cause a very real safety concern why is it that people have to die before something is done and the company is held responsible. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving at various speeds and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate. all of the warning indicators on the instrument panel illuminated. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine had a leak and needed to be repaired and the brake line and circuit board failed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 29,000.
I just recently purchased this car on saturday february 7, used from a carmax dealership. i was told there were no recalls on the car and that everything was fine. test driving i noticed a little hesitation but not much. on sunday as i was sitting with my foot on the brake at a traffic light i felt a shudder vibration and the car slid backwards. to my surprise after researching online i noticed that this car is notorious for that. on wednesday february 11, i took the car back to carmax and was told it had to go to the dealership in order for it to be diagnosed. wait?? i just bought this car!!! i am waiting for a call back from carmax because i want my money back. too much and i just purchased it. *tr
When trying to enter a 50 mph intersection from a side road the 6 speed automatic transmission chatters, jerks, slips and hesitates before moving the car which makes entry into intersection frightening. this is not safe. one does not know what to expect from this erratic power train. ford admits that it cannot be fixed. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while attempting to reverse out a residential driveway, the power steering seized. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission shift needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 118,000.
Transmission shaking and grinding noises; vehicles hesitating and vibrating; transmission noises and the transmission not shifting properly. all of which affect the ability to drive the vehicles and had raise safety concerns. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly failed to accelerate. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission module needed to be updated. the software was updated, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the module needed replacement again. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 37,000.
Our 2012 ford focus, like so very many others, has succumbed to the transmission problems delineated in the ford owner field service action number 14m01. the car is currently at a local dealership's service department awaiting a replacement part (5 weeks and counting). i have been reading more and more complaints that, even after the work is done to correct this problem, the same or worse issues are occurring. i am concerned not only for my safety and that of my family, but of anyone who might become a victim of a car accident that may be caused by this automobile. *tr
Was driving down the freeway, when the car lost all power. the transmission stopped working. warned the hill start assist was not available, and then the traction control light came on. the car wouldn't move. the car has repeated done this during driving, after restarting the car. *tr
This is an update to report filed 1-4-15 (nhtsa id #10669989). on 1-6-15 we had our 2012 focus serviced at a dealership for a serious transmission failure described on previous report. that dealership performed "adaptive learning strategy and cleared all the codes". verbal summary of the problem from the service advisor was that the computer had been confused by a change in transmission demands. we had taken a day trip into hilly, congested san francisco. our typical drive is small town, country highway on relatively flat terrain. the computer did not know how to behave with different traffic conditions and terrain. after that servicing, all seemed fine until a couple of weeks later on 1-23-15, when the car lost power at a 4-way stop. i hit the gas pedal on green, but the transmission wouldn't engage properly, although the engine was revving--similar symptoms to last time.after multiple attempts, the car was not able to reliably engage, only sporadically, limping through a few intersections. eventually, i pulled over to the side of the road, and shut the engine off. when i tried to restart the car, the engine would not even turn over.i decided to use ford roadside assistance again, to have the car towed to the dealership we had purchased the car from. the advisor at that dealership saw the wisdom of replacing the transmission control module (tcm) and programming it. as of today, 3-9-15, odometer at 45,556, we have had no additional symptoms and the car is running smoother than ever, even since new. we still need to test the car on san francisco hills and mountain driving, however. my advice to others is to insist on a replacement of the transmission control module, seals and program at the first sign of this kind of problem. don't let them merely perform the " adaptive learning strategy and clearing of all codes" on the old tcm. that did not hold long in our case. *tr
We responded to fords notice 14m01 which is in reference to the problems of the transmission, experienced by 1000s of focus and fiesta owners years 2011-2013. the 1st dealership we contacted was key scales leesburg fl. after 7 weeks of hassles trying to schedule, the repairs were made 1-7&1-8. as we tried to start the vehicle at key scales, there was a long delay from the time i turned key until it actually started. that was never an issue before we took it in. within a few days, the trans began to shutter like it had before, as well as noises, clanking, grinding and problems with it shifting from 1st to 2nd. i called key scales and was told any repairs would now be at our cost as the original 36000 mile warranty had expired. the notice that was mailed clearly states that fords warranty on trans is now 7 yrs/100,000 miles. let it be known that we also have an intended warranty that we bought at time of purchase for 60 months/100,000 miles. i then called ford of claremont fl. and they agreed to look at the vehicle. we dropped the car off on 1-16 with mileage showing 46092. after 5 days i called and was told they couldn't find a problem. the service advisor wanted to have his shop foreman drive the car home that night. i agreed. i called back the next day and was told he did experience a problem but after notifying ford they were told it was "within acceptable limits" i was told to come and pick up vehicle the mileage was listed as 46098 when in fact is was 46154. (the difference of the foremans drive home) we were told that there is a breakin period of 1000 miles & nothing can be done. the following day we received another call from fords regional service mgr. [xxx]) and she stated the "breakin period" is now 1500 miles. we are still experiencing shuttering, noises, starting delays. scared to take car anywhere. need to get to michigan in april. *tr
Shuddering while accelerating. grinding noise while the automatic transmission is shifting gears. vehicle has been into dealer multiple times for shuddering and shifting issues. the last time, at 49k miles, it was over an 8 week wait to get the car into the dealer - the transmission guys were backed up months at all surrounding dealers. ford's repair has been to reprogram the transmission. we purchased the car new and have been the only owners. the car did not shudder and grind when first purchased. and it performs better immediately after the reprogramming. but after a few thousand miles of travel, shuddering and grinding return. once it starts shuddering, i can duplicate this behavior within 2 miles of a ford dealership. there is a roundabout at livernois and hamlin roads that has a yield for incoming traffic. if the roundabout is clear, proceed into the roundabout between 5 and 10 mph and accelerate slowly while navigating the roundabout - and you get shuddering. personnel in the dealerships state that "drivers just don't know how to drive the car". i am a 50+ year old driver with experience in both manual and automatic transmissions. no tickets no accidents. this vehicle was purchased with the intent of passing to my children when they start driving. the inability to use slow acceleration without shuddering makes it too dangerous for inexperienced drivers. especially in michigan where winter conditions often require slow acceleration to maintain control of the vehicle. please act upon consumers behalf and force ford to provide a permanent resolution. either a fix that permanently stops the shuddering or replacement of the defective powertrain components. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that unknown noises were emitting from the front of the vehicle and the vehicle slightly shook while driving. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 44,000. updated 03/30/15*lj updated 9/19/2017*cn
I purchased a 2012 ford focus sel last year. i have had continuous problems with the transmission since purchasing this vehicle. when taking off (shifting from 1st to 2nd gear), the transmission makes a shuddering noise, the vehicle fails to accelerate, and the car bounces as it struggles to shift gears. i believe this problem is well known to ford since numerous consumer websites have customers with similar complaints. soon after purchase, i had it back in the service department. i had a technician drive around with me. the technician stated that everything was normal and that the clutch plate just gets dirty by too "gingerly" accelerating. he walked me through how to power brake (holding down the brake, flooring the gas pedal, and then releasing the brake to quickly accelerate through the first 3 gears). this appeared to help for a day or two, but i find it hard to believe that this is the solution for a $12,000 certified pre-owned vehicle that i purchased. i recently received a recall notice claiming that the tcm software needed to be updated and that the transmission warranty would be extended. i had this upgrade completed with no improvement to the situation. the technician that i spoke with said the upgrade will probably not help the shuttering. he suggested again that i give it more gas when accelerating. he said something about it being similar to a stick shift stalling when not enough gas is applied. this does not work. i give it more gas to no avail. i have also recently seen where a class action suit against ford for similar complaints from customers. my 17 year old daughter frequently drives this vehicle and i feel it is a safety issue that needs prompt attention. i have been a loyal ford customer for many year. please let me know what resolution you have for my complaint.
Vehicle lost throttle and eventually died and would not crank. this happened going down the highway. hillside assist warning light came on. vehicle would shutter in acceleration at times. tcm had been reprogrammed before this happened but did not really fix the problem of transmission shutter. fmc completely changed out the tcm and this helped for three months and then we had complete transmission failure going down the road. we were 1000 miles over our powertrain warranty. fmc said the reverse gear along with second gear had failed. fmc is replacing the transmission and our cost is $500.00. both incidents were in heavy traffic when transmission failures occurred. thankfully no one else was involved. we currently are in the fourth week of waiting on car to be fixed. *tr
I was driving in a residential neighborhood and approaching a four way stop so not going fast. my car stopped accelerating and then jerked forward causing me to have to turn off the road to avoid going through the stop sign. i instead hit the stop sign. the car has transmission issues that have not yet been resolved. *tr
This is an ongoing issue with the dual clutch powershift transmission that has started shortly after purchasing the car in november 2014. when i take off the car shutters and grinds and sometime looses power. on multiple cases i have gone to pull out into traffic and the car randomly hesitates causing a risk to my safety. on feb 13th 2015 i was on the free way and the car locked in to neutral leaving me stranded on the freeway. i had to get it towed. ford replaced the pcm but the problem is returning. i have taken the car to ford multiple times to have this issue corrected and nothing is being done to fix the problem. *tr
Starting this past winter, my ford focus's transmission shakes, shudders, and slips, etc consistently when starting from a dead stop. the first time it happened, the vehicle actually wouldn't accelerate. i've had it in to ford and they made the problem a little better but the vehicle still noticeably shakes when accelerating. it can also be very hesitant to accelerate when at higher speeds as well. ford has checked the issue again and says that its "within tolerance". i find it absurd that they would consider what my car does to be acceptable. this is both annoying and a safety concern considering the acceleration is not always there the way it should be.
Constant trans problems with 2012 ford focus. your agency is well aware of the problems individuals are having across the us concerning this car and others that include other years. yesterday i nearly missed being in an critical accident due to total failure of the trans in the focus and having it totally lock up on me. the shift would not come out of park and all power was lost. i have had trans issues over three times now. car is now in the shop waiting for a module that, of course, only come from ford and takes a long time. the media has made it know of this increasing problem and also the fact that your agency is doing nothing about it. hopefully the perception that you are waiting for a death to occur before something is done is false but all news and information sources reflect otherwise. i will be contacting congressmen also to follow-up with your lack of taking action and some needed resolution. *tr
*ongoing *please see original complaints # 10473215 and #10670375* long history of transmission repairs since purchase. latest repair on 1/5/2014 was to replace malfunctioning tcm. when getting car back from service, odd noise and hesitation upon starting. service manager attempted to start. symptoms of tcm malfunction again, and then complete loss of power. service states that chafed wiring was found under driver seat, causing new tcm to malfunction and then shorting out all power in vehicle. after hearing odd noise upon starting, i was very close to driving car out onto very busy highway... decided to turn car off instead and seek help from service manager. i am the only driver of this vehicle and i very rarely move the seat. i was told by service that moving the seat on 1/5/2015 caused the chafed wiring to short out the power in the car. i never moved the seat when i got into my car during pickup. this is very frightening and dangerous! i was just reading that chafed wiring can result in fire, also! these vehicles are putting many people at risk of injury or death. please help the affected ford focus customers to get them recalled, as ford will not help. i have filed 3 claims with ford and i cannot even get a call back from them. told that i don't meet the guidelines for buyback or replacement. very afraid to drive my car, especially now since the weather is bitter cold and have already been stranded in freezing weather with sleet on 1/3/2015 because of tcm failure. please help!! *tr
*ongoing *please see original complaint # 10473215 *clutch replaced twice and trans reprogrammed 4/5 times (within 35, 000) *now car not starting- 4 times in 2 months. symptoms on 1/3/2015- 4th time: dash lights up, radio and heater work, headlights- no, but other lights- yes, no crank when trying to start *car usually starts next day, *car restarted afternoon 1/4/2015 and taken for emergency service 1/5/2015. *no call received from service with update, so called for shuttle to return to dealer. techs were already gone. * listed repairs: found tcm inop codes u0101-u0100 tech performed pcm test auto trans diag and pinpoint test, replaced tcm and performed clutch learing (2nd replacement clutch installed 8/2014) *they brought car out and gave me the key. i tried to start car and heard odd noise, then shut car off. i again started the car. this time there was hesitation and noise again, shut car down. went back into service area and found service manager. he tried to start the car several times, but would not start, no sound or crank, but all lights came on- same as when car broke down 2 days earlier. he moved gear shifter around and then tried to start again. this time lights in the car flickered and then everything went black, the car totally died. he stepped out of the car looking shocked and told me to go and sent me for rental. was told that the car was fixed and almost drove off of the lot. dark out and temp outside was 27 with wind chill of 12 . dealership located on 6 lane, very busy highway and could have broken down on highway in freezing cold, very frightening! there would have been no one at the dealer to help me as everyone had left or was leaving. would have been on my own in frigid nighttime weather. *over 2 yrs of trans repairs, still breaking down. convinced car is a lemon. please help as ford will not. chronic problem with this car. unsafe to drive.
Engine light came on exiting a parking garage on a busy evening in hilly san francisco. seconds later, the car lost momentum and wouldn't get into gear, even though the gear shift was in drive. alarming, for a 3-year old car with merely 43300 miles that has been cared for dutifully since it's purchase new in nov. 2011. my wife and i, with our kid and his friend in the backseat, decided to head home, foregoing plans for dinner, and continued to make our way to the highway homebound. the car seemed to run fine through the city streets for the next 10 mins., until we needed to cross 2 busy lanes to enter the freeway onramp. at that point, the car lost the power to safely cross the lanes, we missed our entrance, and were forced to circle city blocks to return to the onramp. the car seemed to regain normalcy, and accelerated to 55 mph, but then, approx. 2 miles later, lost power (even though the engine was revving), acting as if it were nearly in neutral. the car seemed to shift to a very low-powered drive. we were in the slow lane and took the first available exit, hazards blinking. once on city streets, we pulled over to the curb, and tried to re-engage the desired gear. we finally cut the ignition and restarted the car to try to limp it over to the gas station across the intersection and across oncoming traffic. we arrived at the gas station, and called the ford roadside assistant who was extremely polite but i won't go into the headache (and expense) of towing the car to a sensibly-located dealership and getting 2 adults and 2 kids back to our hometown some 80 miles away, at night. we feel extremely blessed that we experience these worrisome problems without injury (or worse) to ourselves, others or damage to property. we are not sure if our confidence to drive the car will be restored after reading many similar complaints below. we await for mon. for ford's answer. *tr
Transmission clutch slips and car shutters and jerks. it is dangerous because the engine revs fast and then lurches forward. parts are on back order due to so many cars having this problem been waiting 2 months! *tr
The car has serious problems with trying to shift correctly. the car hesitates and lurches when accelerating and downshifting. at higher speeds on the freeway the engine is incredibly loud as if it's stuck in the wrong gear. now the dealer discovered a transmission fluid leak as a result of this transmission problem. i see on-line hundreds if not thousands of complaints on this vehicle for the same issue. this car is unsafe. i never know whether it will hesitate or shudder when taking off so i drive it as little as possible. having the air conditioner running only amplifies the problem. my car was purchased new and in short order will pass the 3 year warranty. my dealer, fox ford in grand rapids, michigan has a repair part estimate of several weeks to 6 months. the same message from two weeks ago. i invite any of your investigators to drive this car and determine how road worthy it is. right now i'm stuck with a car that can't be traded in or sold.
Vehicle suffers from transmission shudder issues. there was a recall for it but the ford technicians stated the shudder was not enough for a full repair and instead performed a minor fix which has done nothing to eliminate the issue. this issue exists on a wide range for ford vehicles with a common transmission. the shudder happens when accelerating from a stop, typically when shifting from first to second gear and also can happen when shifting from second to third gear.
When taking off tranny stutters and slips in know about to dry clutch you guys should recall before some gets hurt then al least ford would fix problem. *tr
I am filing a complaint against a 2012 ford focus se. the car has been making transmission noises that cannot be resolved for quite some time now and while driving on the 101 freeway, all of the instrument panel lights came on and the entire car completely shut off and no controls were working at all almost causing an intense pile up that could have killed my mother and i instantly. we were left in the middle of the freeway with not power of any use of controls until chp officers were finally blocking traffic from hitting us. this is the worst vehicle we have ever owned and ford should be ashamed for being negligent. *js
I have had an ongoing issue with the transmission almost since buying this terrible car new. transmission constantly shudders and jerks. most recently was driving at about 60 mph when the car suddenly lost ability to maintain speed. very dangerous timing as i was accelerating on to expressway and needed the speed to merge. ford has no answer for this problem. someone will be killed in these cars because of this problem. please force a recall of these cars now! this is too common of a problem and nhtsa can be considered complicate when someone is killed at this point given the lack of action. *tr
While driving on the road the vehicle lost all power. went from 40mph to 0. when able to drive it again it would not go over 30 mph. the next day it drove with hesitation and jerking. then appeared to run somewhat normal for a short time (10 minutes) after that started to jerk so violently that if a car was in front of me i would have hit it. after reading up on the ford focus, this problem seems to be consistent. i am afraid to drive it. this vehicle poses a danger to not only the driver and passengers but to all the other drivers and vehicles on the road with it. i do not feel safe driving it on the freeway. *tr
With the engine still running, suddenly no power was delivered to the wheels. i was able to roll to a stop at the curb. i returned 1-1/2 hours later and was able to drive the car about 3 miles before the problem recurred. i had the car towed to a ford dealership. the problem was a failed transmission control module, which was replaced by an identical unit. had this failure occurred while driving at high speed on a freeway, it would probably have led to a serious accident. in fact, i would be surprised if there have not already been a number of such accidents. ford has done nothing to correct this problem. in august i received a notice stating that "the tcm may experience electrical circuit failures causing intermittent symptoms of loss of transmission engagement while driving, no-start, or a lack of power." it goes on to say that a software update is available that will give a visual warning of a potential failure. however, this will not prevent a driver from being stranded, nor, in many cases, will it preclude an accident from occurring. i am buying a new car and trading in my focus. i could get more for it by selling it to a private party, but i am unwilling to have any connection with the unwitting person who owns the car next. since the incident with my 2012 focus occurred about three years after my purchase, it is reasonable to think that such incidents will occur with increasing frequency. ford needs to treat the design of a replacement tcm as an urgent matter, and to make it the subject of a recall.
I have taken my ford focus to the dealership three times to inform them about the transmission. at first they told me they had to reprogram it and that would fix the problem but it didn't. i took a second time and they told me the same. on saturday november 29 2014 i was parked at an incline at a furniture store when i put my vehicle in reverse it went but when i tried to engage the drive it just kept going back. i backed up into a ford f-150 that was in the back. fortunately nothing happened to the ford f-150 and the gentleman did not want to file a report. i took my vehicle to my ford dealership on december 27,2014. they did not inspect my vehicle until december 31, 2014. the service manager called me to inform me that it would not be ready for another 3 to 4 weeks until the clutch for the transmission came in. i made it very clear to him that i would not be driving the vehicle in that condition. i went to the dealership on january 2,2015 that is when they informed me that it would be ready the next day. i called the next day and they informed me that it would not be ready until january 5,2015. now i have a vehicle that is damaged from the rear passenger quarter panel and the lights are cracked but no one will take responsibility for the damage to my vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, the vehicle shifted from drive into neutral and shifted back into drive independently. the vehicle was restarted and the failure recurred. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 79,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving approximately 25 to 35 mph, the vehicle made a loud abnormal sound, the transmission spun, and the wheels did not engage. the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission software had to be updated. the software update was performed; however, the failure recurred numerous times. the approximate failure mileage was 28,419.
I bought the car used in november or 2014. after a few days of driving there was this a loud boom when accelerating from a stop light. after that the transmission would shutter so bad the car was not drive-able. i contacted the dealership where i bought it and they tested and told me it was the worst shuttering they had ever recorded. they told me ford would fix it for free but the part was on back order. i waited for over 2 months and they finally had the part. after getting the vehicle fixed it drove fine for about 7500 miles and then the shuttering started to occur again lightly at first but slowly increasing. i am now out of warranty and stuck in a loan with a car that doesn't drive like it should. i have owned many fords in the past and never had a single issue until now.
Second problem was at 45,000 miles when the transmission control module (tcm) malfunctioned. the car lost all power while riding down the road and left me stranded in the middle of the highway. the car would not shift into park and was stuck in drive. i could not get the key out or attempt to crank it because the transmission was stuck in drive. i immediately called the ford dealership and they told me that i had to get it towed and they would not tow the vehicle to the dealership and it would be at least two weeks before they could diagnose the problem. they ended up replacing the tcm module and i received the car back after 4 weeks.
To whom it may concern, i am a very unhappy customer with a car that i had purchased from your company. the car is not reliable what so ever and i can't trust it with anything! i have always wanted the newer model focus and when i finally have the money to afford one i am extremely disappointed. i have never had this many issues with a car and this is one of the newest cars i have yet bought. i have missed 8 days of work this year just because the car has its own games to play.the car has almost cost me my life a few times due to the jerking on the engine that you guys feel is normal. when i go to make a turn the car jerks so much sometimes that it's just makes it before i get smashed. this car is horrible and i think that it is so wrong that there is so much wrong with this car yet you still keep it on the market. one day this car is not going to go when i push the gas and i will get seriously injured. i have complained to service many times about this issue and they simply say? ?well just push the gas a little harder? i'm sorry maybe the car should simply go considering its main function is to drive!!! this is one of the most disappointing, nonfunctional, and depreciative vehicle i have ever bought in my life. i will never buy a ford again if something cannot be done. so thank you so much, instead of me saving for college i now get to save up to buy another car because i was wrong about this car being dependable. thank you so much for all the hardship your poor manufacturing has caused me and my wallet. i really so hope someone can be of assistance and correct this issue because if not you will surely be losing a customer along with me posting this to social media in the months to come if something is not resolved. i figured if you guys don't care enough about my well being then the world must know. *tr
I have been experiencing increasing hesitating and shuddering from my transmission when attempting to accelerate. at times, i have experienced high engine revs with very little power to the wheels. i can no longer rely on the transmission to deliver the engine power to the wheels when i need it. i have had several incidents where i've experienced loss of power when attempting to maneuver the vehicle into the flow of traffic. this presents a very real safety hazard to the driver. i went to my dealership in response to the letter from ford and was told that the parts are on national back-order. i was told that this was not a safety issue and would need to continue to drive my vehicle until parts were available. at this point, i have parked the car and have made other arrangements until i can get it serviced. ford must own up to the fact that this is a serious safety issue and issue a factory recall. *tr
When drive the transmission jumps and sputters been in ford auto centers many times and when i call all i am told us this is normal. *tr
We received recall notification from ford stating computer needed updated for the transmission/computer/clutch issues they are having. had software update done. fast forward to august of this year. was driving car at highway speed and it started shaking badly, check engine light came on, car would only go about 30 mph. took car to dealership under warranty and recall notice. software was again updated. we were told to drive it and basically hope for the best. if check engine light came on again to take it back to dealership. car still shuddered from stop while accelerating. 1 week later check engine light comes on and car won't go over 30 mph. got the car home and it would not move in reverse. called dealership. car has been towed to dealership. will most likely be without car for at least another week. this will make around 2 weeks total in past month without car. ford's warranty is now 150k miles on tcm but only 100k miles on clutch with tcm is tearing up. ford's roadside assistance runs out at 60k miles. ford knows they have a major issue with these cars, and knows they will break down, not if they will, but when they will break down is the question. they make the consumer deal with all headaches of not having a car and getting it to the shop. it is extremely dangerous driving this vehicle knowing one minute you are at highway speed and the next at 30 mph. ford is not doing everything they can to ensure safety. they are trying to repair as few as possible and as cheap as possible. as a long time ford advocate i am beyond angry. i want the nhtsa to do their jobs as well and force ford motor company to fix these vehicles and ensure their customers safety. ford is responsible for all costs associated with this issue and needs to stand up, put their big boy pants on, and do the right thing.
It has happened a few times when i start the car and go into reverse or drive i cannot turn the steering wheel. it takes a minute and then i can turn the wheel. i stopped at wayne akers ford and they said it might be the electronics for my power steering. they were surprised it is happening so soon. they said to bring it back for service on a weekday when more staffing. *tr
Transmission shakes and grinds. car rolls backwards on hills. ford says this is normal behavior but having a car roll backwards on hills with an automatic transmission is a safety concern. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle felt as if it were jumping in and out of gear. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be reprogrammed. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred several times. the transmission jumped out of gear and the vehicle could not be driven. the vehicle was towed. it was diagnosed again as needing a new transmission module and clutch. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure kept recurring. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, extended the warranty, and placed an emergency order for the parts. the contact was informed the parts would not become available for a few weeks. the contact also wanted to file a complaint against ford motor company because she was unsatisfied. the failure mileage was 43,500.

It has been happening ever since i got this car. i have taken it to the dealership four times and they 'can never duplicate it' or tell me that it is normal. my car shudders and makes a loud grinding noise when it shifts from 1st-2nd gear. it is very annoying and stalls when i try to take off. if i would have known this was going to happen i would have not purchased this car. what the real kicker is i took it in last month same song and dance. 'it's normal' then i receive a letter in the mail saying that i get an extended warranty on my transmission... well if they think/know that is the problem why has no one no one ever checked this? *tr
Engine stalled and shutdown while driving with loss of control. engine also rev'ed up down without acceleration and deceleration while driving and traction warning control light came on. car was driven to nearby parking lot where it completely shutdown. car needed to be towed to dealer, as it could not be driven safely. ford dealer identified the problem as a dtc code u0101 or simply a bad tcm(transmission control module). tcm was replaced on the transmission and paid by owner, despite this part being recalled by ford on other ford focus models, as follows: focus power train:automatic transmission:control module (tcm, pcm) recall number: 13v523000 recall date: 10/30/2013 problem summary: ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 focus electric vehicles manufactured september 15, 2011, through august 23, 2013. in the affected vehicles, a powertrain control module software problem may result in a stall-like condition. consequence: an unexpected loss of power while driving increases the risk of a crash. corrective action: ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the power control module, free of charge. the recall is expected to begin by late november 2013. ford's recall campaign number is 13s09. owners may contact ford motor company customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332. this recall affects vehicles manufactured between 09/15/2011 and 08/23/2013. *tr
While driving, vehicle engine temperature climbed drastically and immediately. upon closer inspection, coolant level in engine was dangerously low. 2 weeks later, coolant level low again. no visible leaks in system. *tr
