When driving my 2017 ford f350 pickup truck at a speed over 55 mph and hit a bump in the road, my steering wheel will jerk violently left and right until i apply the brakes and reduce my speed to 30 mph or less. it can occur on a bumpy road, washboard gravel , concrete expansion joints on the highway, dips, or when transitioning on or off a bridge. i've gotten the violent shaking on both straight roads and corners. i have had the death wobble between 14 & 16 times. it first happened when my truck had approximately 19,000 miles. attempted repairs have been done at ford under warranty at 27,969 miles...30,680 miles...35,800miles. my truck now has 40,000 miles and is out of warranty.
While driving on the interstate i hit an uneven piece of pavement which caused my steering wheel to begin shaking violently. i immediately decelerated in attempt to regain control and maintain lane position. it is a reoccurring problem. every time i see a bump, pothole, uneven pavement, etc, in my path, i grip the steering wheel as tightly as possible and brace for the worst. i have researched the problem and seems to be a well known and very serious problem among ford owners. something need to be done to correct this problem immediately. sticker price on my truck was 77,250. that's a steep price tag for a truck that is barely driveable. furthermore, my children ride in that truck. that's unacceptable. ford needs to be held accountable and made to fix their inferior and dangerous design.
Vehicle shakes violently when traveling 60mph or higher on freeways after hitting a bump in the road. have to slow down immediately to remain in control of vehicle. happened 6 times in last 2 weeks.
While driving at freeway speeds i went across an overpass. coming off the bridge i went over the bridge expansion joint and cased my pickup to immediately start an extremely violent "death wobble". i had to apply brake and slow down to 35 mph before it would come out of it. i have made an appt with the dealer that i purchased the truck from new however they were extremely non-nonchalant about my problem. in doing some research it seem that this is a problem the hundreds of super duty owners are having with no recall yet. i feel like if i was not as an experienced driver or in adverse weather conditions i would not have been able to maintain control of my vehicle and would have crashed.
The truck does the death wobble (front end bounces side to side) at highway speeds. it's been in 5 times for the same problem, and it continues. i'm scared to have anyone in my family drive the truck.
I was driving on the highway and was going over an overpass where there was construction and hit a bump in the road. the truck started vibrating and swerving out of control. my fear was that i was going over the bridge! i was afraid to hit the break for fear it would make it worse. so i took my foot off the accelerator and as i slowed, i finally gained control of the vehicle. this is the second time this had happened to me in the last 2 weeks while going over an overpass and hitting a bump in the road. i am unsure what would have caused this to happen. i have never had this happen to me in any vehicle before and i have been driving for 34 years. i will not drive this vehicle!!! it is a death trap!!!
While driving on interstate @ approximately 70 mph and going straight, i hit a small bump in the road with the left front tire. there were 4 people in the truck and we were pulling a 21 foot boat approximately 4000 pounds. the steering wheel began to shake so i let off of the throttle, the shaking became more violent and began to veer uncontrollably to the left. the shaking was so violent that i could not see clearly and my passengers thought the truck was coming apart. the only recourse in my mind was to jam on the brakes. this did eventually stop the shaking after slowing the vehicle to a speed of less than 30 mph. fortunately there were no semi's or other vehicles behind us at the time. the stress of the shaking on the steering system has now caused vibrations while traveling at lower speeds. the truck was serviced for a vibration problem on 9/6/2019 with 20512 miles on it. there is now only 23300 miles on the truck.
The truck violently shakes and bounces in the front end and steering wheel shakes almost unable to control steering direction. this has happened 2 times in the past month both while driving on 2 different highways after hitting a bump on the highway going straight forward and the other after driving over the metal end dam after the approach slab before a bridge on a gradual left turn in the road sent me in the shoulder. had to slow to 35mph +\- to regain control and normal operation.
Driving over 45 miles per hour and hitting pot hole, extremely rough roads and crossing a bridge joins the front end shakes so violently that i almost lost control of the truck, it keep shaking and getting worse until i was able to slow down below 45 miles per hour. i called dealer he said to replace the steering stabilizer, because parts from ford are on back order, i did replace with a new stabilizer, but the condition still exists, a 2017 f 350 with 48,00miles o should not have this dangerous problem. this shaking happens on any road over 45 miles per hour
My truck has been at the dealer 3 times to try and fix the death wobble that continues. if you hit a bump at highway speeds, the wheels vibrate out of control and shake the entire truck violently until slowing to under 40 mph. ford knows about this, but still has not done anything to fix it. i am paying rental car fees and extended warranty deductibles every time i have to go back, which is too often. this is dangerous and ford should be forced into a recall to fix this uncontrolled vibration.
Sustained steering wheel oscillation after hitting bump or an expansion joint at highway speed. vehicle has 40,000 miles. has occurred several times in the past.
While the vehicle is in motion going straight down a highway at approximately 65 mph or over, and if a small bump in the road is experienced, the front left tire vibrates violently and the steering wheel becomes extremely shaky. this has almost caused my to lose control of the vehicle on multiple separate occasions, and almost causing a collision on one occasion. slowing the vehicle down seems to cause the vibrations to go away temporarily, however going 40mph is not a fix as that is not a safe speed in a 70mph highway zone. this 2017 f350 was bought brand new from the dealership and has less than 28k miles on it. extremely disappointed in ford and extremely scared to have family in the truck in the event of total failure.
Upon starting the vehicle a warning was displayed that said "adaptive steering fault service required". power cycling the vehicle 3 time and each time presented with the same warning and corresponding dash warning indicator. when driving the vehicle the steering ratio was clearly affected. the dash warning light stayed lit at all times during operation of the vehicle. a subsequent restart of the vehicle an hour later caused the same message and indicator light. however after only a couple minutes of driving the indicator went out. the warning and indicator have not returned after several starts in the past 24 hours. steering seems to have returned to normal operation. continuing to monitor.
Going down the highway at 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly started shaking violently. i had to immediately slow down and pull over on the shoulder. once i came to a complete stop, the shaking stopped. after checking all tires, i started going again and did not experience it again. after some research, it appears that there are several complaints regarding this same issue. i bought this used 3 months ago, it has 46,600 miles on the vehicle. as this is not a warranty issue, i will be out of pocket on this.
January 2018 i bought a new 2017 ford f-350. after driving the truck around 24000 miles it started this horrible shaking and almost lost control. researched the symptoms referred to as death wobble. the truck has been back to the dealer where i bought it 4 times and they haven't been able to fix it. if you are driving down the road at 60 mph and hit a bump the truck violently shakes back and forth and it real hard to control it. you have to slow down as fast as you can with out using the brakes if you step on the brake the shaking gets more violent. type in death wobble on google it is hard to believe as common as this problem is that there is not a recall on these trucks. rolling down the freeway going to houston thanksgiving day it started to the wobble 12 times in 50 mile span each time having to try to steer onto the shoulder and slow down as fast as you can and try to not get run over in the traffic.
In november 2019, at approximately 14k miles on the vehicle while driving on a nevada freeway at speeds over 50 mph the vehicle unexpectedly and without warning exhibited violent shaking in the front end and steering wheel causing the vehicle to be difficult to control. during this episode, the vehicle was not towing. the violent shaking stopped after slowing the vehicle to approx 30mph. returning to ca the vehicle did it several times and was sent to the dealership where ford tsb 18-2268 was performed. the problem seemed to be fixed until recently on 01/01/2020, it returned at 19.8k miles. this time pulling a 40 foot 5th wheel trailer at approx 55 mph on a ca freeway when the front began violently shaking after driving over a small bump in the freeway. the vehicle was difficult to control and maintain within a lane of travel with the trailer attached. the violent shaking only stopped after slowing to approx 30 mph.
I have 30000 miles on truck. i have taken the truck on long road trips with a truck camper loaded in the back with no problems until now. i have had sever wobbling in the steering wheel which has bin happening more and more frequently. i have 2 small boys and my wife in the truck along with the weight of the truck camper and it is starting to scare me. it happens when driving 60 or more and if i hit a rough patch of some sort. even the safety strips in the road can send the truck into a violent shaking. it has happened on highways and on mountain roads as well.
Was on the highway, in a 65mph zone, when i hit a bump, and the whole truck started to violently shake. i tried to pull over, thinking it was a tire blow out, but the steering wouldnt react. i slowed down, and about 20mph, as people around me almost hit me, the truck came back in control, and stopped shaking. i speed back up like nothing happened.... my wife and son was witness. this also happened at around 12k milage, but this time was much worse......all tires were fine, and after it came back in control...it hasnt done it again, yet...
We had a front steering oscillation, aka "death wooble", occur will in a curve at 55 mph after a minor bump. we had to slow to 5 mph before it recovered. this was on a 2 lane road (ga 369) in forsyth co. i 'may' have video, but i an not sure i saved it.
I was traveling down the highway at approximately 60 mph and hit a bump. my vehicle began shaking violently. i had to abruptly decelerate down to 35 mph to get ot to stop shaking. i believe it's called a death wobble. i've had my vehicle in to the ford dealership twice to have it fixed to no avail. i had the whole front end rebuilt. $1500 down the drain. i had a 2012 f350 that did the same thing. this wobble has happened to me many times. most recently it happened on 12/22/2019.
I was traveling at approximately 65mph on i84 when i hit a rough patch of road and i almost lost control of the truck. the steering wheel began to shake violently and the the entire truck began to shake making it next to impossible to control the truck. i came to a stop on the emergency lane and truck continued to shake until i came to a complete stop. very dangerous situation, the highway had a slight left bend when i drove over the rough spot which is not even that bad of a spot and i drive it everyday with my other vehicle. it felt as though the steering had broken loose and had there been other vehicles around it could have been very bad if not deadly.
Shaking of steering wheel this is not an isolated incident with our trucks, it's a nationwide problem that is very very dangerous. in a 10 mile ride it would happen 3-4x at 70 to 75mph hitting the slightest bump, the truck would violently shake. i would have to slow down to 20 mph for it to stop. very difficult on a highway and unsafe.*dt consumer stated 6 complaints on 6 different trucks on same issue. *jb
Heavy vibration and shacking of steering wheel this is not an isolated incident with our trucks, it's a nationwide problem that is very very dangerous. in a 10 mile ride it would happen 3-4x at 70 to 75mph hitting the slightest bump, the truck would violently shake. i would have to slow down to 20 mph for it to stop. very difficult on a highway
After hitting a bump in road vehicle shimmy's till speed is reduced to 20-25 miles a hour. seems to happen more often when i am in a curve. happen on free way and two lands. usually of 60 miles per hour. less prevalent at lower speeds. first noticed when truck was new in 2017. dealer said could find nothing wrong with truck. i just got back from dealer service for same problem 1650 dollars still doing same shimmy.
On december 16th, 2019 i was driving down ohio state rt. 2 in sandusky, ohio about 1:00 pm going 70 mph in a straight line. i drove over an expansion joint in the road and my truck ,with no warning, started a violent death wobble. i applied the brakes but the wobble didn't stop shaking until the truck got down to 30 mph. my truck only has 24,000 miles on it and is well maintained. i called the dealership and they said this has happened to several trucks but the parts to fix it are back ordered and would call me when available. i thank the lord that my wife was not driving it at the time.
With 19721 miles my truck at highway speeds after hitting a bump would start shaking uncontrollably. dealer put a new steering damper on it. now with 23341 miles on it its doing it again. dealer says a part ford says will fix problem is back orderd this truck is un safe to drive as is.
My 2017 f350 has 34k miles. if any bump in the road is hit it causes the truck to violently shake. any speeds over 65mph this will happen. i have almost lost control 2 time. the violent shake continues until you can slow the truck to 20-30mph. someone is going to die. ford is not stepping up and fixing this. please help!
My truck has the "death wobble". at freeway speeds it shakes so bad!! when traveling 60 to 75 mph and drive over a bridge expansion joint, it shakes so bad. this will cause a accident. my truck has 50,000 miles on it. this has also happened on normal pavement.
After hitting a bump in the road at speeds above 45 mph the truck begins to wobble and i lose steering until i slow down and the wobble subsides. i took the truck to a ford dealership in jun 2019 when the truck had 35k miles. the dealership replaced the damper assembly and told me the problem has been fixed. the truck continued to have the issue and i brought the truck back in nov 2019 with 40k miles and they told me everything was fine. i complained and said the wobble still continues. they then decided to decreased front wheel caster one degree and charged me $600. they said this would fix the problem. the truck is still experiencing wobble and i fear that ford is not addressing the urgency of this issue. i am not sure where to take my truck for service is ford dealerships are ubable to fix the issue.
Vehicle randomly experiences "speed wobble". happens at highway speeds if the vehicle hits even a small imperfection in the road. the front axle will start oscillating so vigorously that the front tires start to bounce up and down, side to side. this only stops bouncing if you you apply the brakes and slow down to about 20 mph. very dangerous on they highway.
We were driving our f350 with 31,000 miles on it down the highway towing a camper at 65 mph. we hit a small bump in the highway and the steering wheel started shaking violently causing me to almost run off the road before getting it stopped. immediately called my ford dealership and they said it is normal but to bring it in for repair? i took the truck in and they replaced the front steering stabilizer shock and said it was fixed. 900 miles later i am driving the truck down the highway towing a 12,000 lb. loaded gooseneck trailer down the road when it happens again at 60 mph! even worse this time. i called ford and they said again that it is normal and they will order an aftermarket steering stabilizer to put on it this time. this is bsolutely ridiculous and insanely unsafe. if my wife had been driving we would have wrecked both times for sure. i dont know how they can sell a 90,000$ truck knowing it has this problem! i have a video in mp4 format of the first time it ever did it to me but i cant get it to upload.
I purchased this truck 3 months ago when it had a little less than 15k miles on it. everything was ok until about 26k miles when if you hit a bump in the road at freeway speeds and you have to pull completely to the shoulder to make it stop. i have brought it to apple valley ford in minnesota and got the run around. they told me that they were going to replace the steering stabilizer (which is on factory back order) when it comes in. i had to replace it my self with one that i purchased from o reilly which did not fix the problem. i stopped at a different dealership today (boyer ford in minneapolis mn) and talked to the service manager. he knew a lot about this issue but stated it is not a recall and told me that he was waiting for 3 steering stabilizers himself. he said i could change the tires to a softer rubber, change to a double stabilizer at a off road shop or purchase custom wheels with a different offset which he has heard fixes the issue (of course at my expense). only issue is i just paid $57,000 for this truck with lower miles and purchased the extended warrantee so i did not have issues. i do not have any documentation right now due to the dealership not being done with the repairs. my son has a video of this if you want to see it, but it is very dangerous.
During the past several weeks, while driving at normal speeds of 45-55 mph, the front end of my truck will vibrate and shake while traveling over rough highways and especially when driving over the center rumble strips. this condition is also referred to bump steer or "death wobble". i purchased the truck brand new in february 2017. currently, there is 18393 miles on my truck. this "vibration" started in the past 6-8 months ago moths, if i had a cup of coffee or any drink in the center console cup holder, the cups would vibrate and slip liquids. i initially blamed this on the tires needing rotated, which are rotated every 3000-5000 miles. last week, i inadvertently drove over the center line rumble strips. i was traveling approximately 55 mph when the truck began to violently shake and steering unresponsive. this lasted approximately 3-5 seconds and ceased when i slowed down. the same violent shake and condition occurred 2 other times in the pats 2 weeks with one of them being this afternoon. all times when this occurred was at the moderate speed previously mentioned. after further research on this condition, it sounds like that there are over 1600+ complaints of the same condition. please note, my tires are 9/32 tread, no signs of cupping or bad alignment and air pressures exactly at the manufactured recommended 60psi front, 80psi rear. i have a scheduled appointment for december 16, 2019 to have this concern address at the dealership where i purchased my truck.
My 2017 f350 has 15,000 miles on it and has experienced extreme death wobble at least 10 times. if you are going over 70 on the turnpike and hit a bump this happens. you need to make ford recall this before people die. my truck is 100 percent stock except for a rear sway bar i added, and has never been off road. it happened 9-28-19 3 times but has done this before. i have an appointment to have it fixed 12-19-19, but from what i have read fords fixes do not really fix the problem. please make ford recall this before people start dying on the highways.
This truck has developed the infamous death wobble. on a trip in november it occurred for the first time at 75 mph and we almost lost control of the truck and crashed. i limped it back home and took it to the dealer that i bought it from and who does all of the service on it. the necessary parts were ordered over 3 weeks ago and i am being told that these parts are on a nationwide backorder and it will be at a minimum of 6-8 more weeks.
At 17000 miles experienced steering oscillation and death wobble while driving 55mph or greater. extremely unsafe especially when pulling a trailer. have had parts replaced and serviced several times. most recent parts replaced at 35500. dealer has performed tsb several times. this issue is extremely common and is affecting a lot of these trucks.
Sustained steering wheel oscillation (aka death wobble) while driving down a road at approximately 55 mph i encountered a slightly rough patch of pavement. the steering wheel started to violently shake back and forth until i slowed to approximately 10mph and the oscillations ceased. ford does have a tsb out on the issue but they are only replacing the steering damper and not looking into the root cause. this has happened several times and the damper has been replaced once as well.
While driving between 55-70 mph, the steering wheel begins to shake violently in the truck if you drive over the slightest road imperfection. i have called ford with my vin number and was told that there was no recall or service bulletin for this problem. however, they did say that this was a widespread issue. i was advised that the steering components and track bar was subject to premature failure.
2017 ford 350 srw/crew cab/long bed/diesel, 31k miles, steer/bump resonance / death wobble as some refer to it as, happened for the first time about 2k miles ago. i was on a stretch of highway that had a very weird ripple which triggered the first incident, i thought it was an anomaly due to conditions and didn't think anything more. since then i have noticed a slight vibration in the steering wheel that is particularly pronounced when in a slight left highway turn (unloading the steering damper i assume). while travelling straight and level i went over a bridge transition and went into a steer/bump resonance which forced me to the shoulder and slowing to 30 mph or so before it diminished. this can be disturbing on an empty road and downright dangerous on a busy one. i'm just lucky that it was a relatively low traffic environment during the most current incident.
Vehicle owner was travelling at 65mph on four lane interstate. upon crossing over an expansion joint at an overpass the steering and front end began shaking violently and uncontrollably. the shaking persisted until speed was reduced to under 45mph. no vehicles were present in the adjacent lanes. if there were it is very likely an accident would have occurred.
Hit a bump in the road at 50mph +, the steering wheel began to shake violently making the vehicle impossible to control. i had to hit the brakes hard and slow way down to regain control of the truck. this nearly caused the car behind me to rear end me on one occasion. this has happened to me 3 times in the last month. i have only experienced this unloaded with no trailer on straight roads, thus far. the vehicle is right at 19,000 miles, still under warranty. it should not behave this way. even when the wobble doesn't happen, the vehicle will sometimes jump to one side or another going over angled joints in the road. if you are not paying extreme attention, you will be in the median. this has happened many times in the last few months. it simply isn't very safe to drive without a high payload. the wobble occurred multiple times at the same bridge joint going in two directions. the jumping to the side occurs almost daily at the same joint. the wobble occurred a separate time on another road. both roads are 2-3 lane city thoroughfares. not really city street or highways, but i supposed divided highway is the best description . i just replaced stock/original tires, hoping those have something to do with it.
The truck experiences 'death wobble' upon hitting certain bumps in the road. the steering wheel along with the whole truck shake uncontrollably until the truck is slowed to well below highway speeds. during the shaking the driver is unable to maintain full directional control of the truck. i have had the truck get into 'death wobble' four times now, every time i have had the issue speeds have been from 65mph to 75 mph.
On several occasions, the steering wheel shakes violently, making the truck hard to control. this happens at freeway speeds. it seems the only way to make the shaking stop is to rapidly brake the vehicle. sudden braking iand limited steering control n heavy, fast traffic seems dangerous to me.
While driving highway-speed about 65 mph, the truck hits a grove in the highway road and started to shake violently and uncontrollable. i slowed down while trying to keep the truck in one lane and it stopped the bucking/wobble action when the speed was reduced to 20 mph. this has happened twice in the past week and vehicle is scheduled to be looked at in the service center.
My truck is experiencing death wobble. when i drive and the truck hits a rough patch or bump in the road the steering creates a wobble so bad that the whole truck shakes. the wheel moves back and forth uncontrollably and i have to slow down to about 40 mph or less for it to stop. on the interstate pulling a 5th wheel camper this is a extremely dangerous condition for both my family and other cars on the road. when the death wobble is happening it scares my family to the point of wanting to get out of the truck. something is wrong with the steering or alignment of these trucks. i see that ford has created a couple of service announcements to try to fix this problem but are unsuccessful. ford has so many service issues to correct this problem that parts are on back order. they are putting a band-aid on the issue instead of trying to fix the problem.
While driving at 65 mph on a highway hit a small pothole and the steering / front suspension started wobbling very violently, had no more control on the the steering. had to slow down and pull over on the shoulder. no damage visible to tires or steering components so i continued driving and the wobble was gone. this happened before on bridge joints in a curve for a short moment, but not as violently as today. truck seems not safe, will take it to dealer on monday.
I purchased a new 2017 f-350 a couple years ago. it has about 22,000 miles on it. i experienced the "death wobble" yesterday for the second time. i now know why it's called that. i was going about 60mph on a two-lane highway when the truck and steering started shaking violently. i almost crashed trying to slow it down and definitely could have killed me! it sounds as if this is becoming all too common of a problem with these trucks. i'm scared to drive again!
Traveling on a paved highway at 60 mph. the roadway had a bumpy section. when driving thru the bumpy section, the front end of the truck began to shake violently and nearly caused a loss of control. it continued to shake until the truck speed was reduced below 30 mph.
I was driving down the freeway to work at approximately 70 mph when my truck started to shake so bad in the front end i almost took out the vehicle to my left and ended up halfway in the ditch. i had 0 control over my truck
Death wobble. front end shakes so bad you cant control it between 50 and 60 mph on highway.
