Problems with 2017 Ford F-350 SUSPENSION

On average, the 2017 Ford F-350 starts to “feel” problems with the SUSPENSION and its various aspects after 26 359 miles.

Recently reported SUSPENSION problems on 2017 Ford F-350

When driving my 2017 ford f350 pickup truck at a speed over 55 mph and hit a bump in the road, my steering wheel will jerk violently left and right until i apply the brakes and reduce my speed to 30 mph or less. it can occur on a bumpy road, washboard gravel , concrete expansion joints on the highway, dips, or when transitioning on or off a bridge. i've gotten the violent shaking on both straight roads and corners. i have had the death wobble between 14 & 16 times. it first happened when my truck had approximately 19,000 miles. attempted repairs have been done at ford under warranty at 27,969 miles...30,680 miles...35,800miles. my truck now has 40,000 miles and is out of warranty.

While driving on the interstate i hit an uneven piece of pavement which caused my steering wheel to begin shaking violently. i immediately decelerated in attempt to regain control and maintain lane position. it is a reoccurring problem. every time i see a bump, pothole, uneven pavement, etc, in my path, i grip the steering wheel as tightly as possible and brace for the worst. i have researched the problem and seems to be a well known and very serious problem among ford owners. something need to be done to correct this problem immediately. sticker price on my truck was 77,250. that's a steep price tag for a truck that is barely driveable. furthermore, my children ride in that truck. that's unacceptable. ford needs to be held accountable and made to fix their inferior and dangerous design.

Vehicle shakes violently when traveling 60mph or higher on freeways after hitting a bump in the road. have to slow down immediately to remain in control of vehicle. happened 6 times in last 2 weeks.

While driving at freeway speeds i went across an overpass. coming off the bridge i went over the bridge expansion joint and cased my pickup to immediately start an extremely violent "death wobble". i had to apply brake and slow down to 35 mph before it would come out of it. i have made an appt with the dealer that i purchased the truck from new however they were extremely non-nonchalant about my problem. in doing some research it seem that this is a problem the hundreds of super duty owners are having with no recall yet. i feel like if i was not as an experienced driver or in adverse weather conditions i would not have been able to maintain control of my vehicle and would have crashed.

The truck does the death wobble (front end bounces side to side) at highway speeds. it's been in 5 times for the same problem, and it continues. i'm scared to have anyone in my family drive the truck.

I was driving on the highway and was going over an overpass where there was construction and hit a bump in the road. the truck started vibrating and swerving out of control. my fear was that i was going over the bridge! i was afraid to hit the break for fear it would make it worse. so i took my foot off the accelerator and as i slowed, i finally gained control of the vehicle. this is the second time this had happened to me in the last 2 weeks while going over an overpass and hitting a bump in the road. i am unsure what would have caused this to happen. i have never had this happen to me in any vehicle before and i have been driving for 34 years. i will not drive this vehicle!!! it is a death trap!!!

The truck violently shakes and bounces in the front end and steering wheel shakes almost unable to control steering direction. this has happened 2 times in the past month both while driving on 2 different highways after hitting a bump on the highway going straight forward and the other after driving over the metal end dam after the approach slab before a bridge on a gradual left turn in the road sent me in the shoulder. had to slow to 35mph +\- to regain control and normal operation.

Driving over 45 miles per hour and hitting pot hole, extremely rough roads and crossing a bridge joins the front end shakes so violently that i almost lost control of the truck, it keep shaking and getting worse until i was able to slow down below 45 miles per hour. i called dealer he said to replace the steering stabilizer, because parts from ford are on back order, i did replace with a new stabilizer, but the condition still exists, a 2017 f 350 with 48,00miles o should not have this dangerous problem. this shaking happens on any road over 45 miles per hour

My truck has been at the dealer 3 times to try and fix the death wobble that continues. if you hit a bump at highway speeds, the wheels vibrate out of control and shake the entire truck violently until slowing to under 40 mph. ford knows about this, but still has not done anything to fix it. i am paying rental car fees and extended warranty deductibles every time i have to go back, which is too often. this is dangerous and ford should be forced into a recall to fix this uncontrolled vibration.

While the vehicle is in motion going straight down a highway at approximately 65 mph or over, and if a small bump in the road is experienced, the front left tire vibrates violently and the steering wheel becomes extremely shaky. this has almost caused my to lose control of the vehicle on multiple separate occasions, and almost causing a collision on one occasion. slowing the vehicle down seems to cause the vibrations to go away temporarily, however going 40mph is not a fix as that is not a safe speed in a 70mph highway zone. this 2017 f350 was bought brand new from the dealership and has less than 28k miles on it. extremely disappointed in ford and extremely scared to have family in the truck in the event of total failure.

I was driving on i-91 last week at 70 mph. i went over a rough expansion joint and the vehicle went into a full blown death wobble. it carried on for several seconds while i was able to slow down until 45mph where the vehicle returned to normal. during the death wobble the steering wheel oscillated violently and the truck vibrated rapidly. i was able to get it under control and pulled over to the side of the road where i did a walk about expecting to see a blown tire but there was nothing. i decided to drive home at 55mph where i had no problems. i took the truck to my mechanic the next day where they said the drag link and passenger tie rod had play and should be replaced. i knew the truck was under warranty still so i took it to the local ford dealer where they said the tie rod and drag link was in a safe operating tolerance and the steering stabilizer needed to be replaced. however it is on back order. they then said once they fixed the steering stabilizer they would then check the tie rod and drag links again and if there was play in the steering wheel ford would then replace those free of cost. all of this happened with my kids and the car. we are going on vacation at the end of april and i am concerened about this happening again even with parts being replaced.

Going down the highway at 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly started shaking violently. i had to immediately slow down and pull over on the shoulder. once i came to a complete stop, the shaking stopped. after checking all tires, i started going again and did not experience it again. after some research, it appears that there are several complaints regarding this same issue. i bought this used 3 months ago, it has 46,600 miles on the vehicle. as this is not a warranty issue, i will be out of pocket on this.

Had an occurrence of 'death wobble' on i-25. traveling 68~70 mpg hit an expansion joint (asphalt to bridge) squarely (with both front wheel at the same time). front wheels broke into oscillation. intensity of oscillation quickly increased to the point i could barely maintain control of truck. speeding up and slowing down (releasing throttle did not damped the oscillation). hard braking did not help until vehicle speed was below about 30 mph. the following day, this happened 3 times within about 5 miles (rough roads - construction area) on i-25. very similar conditions.

January 2018 i bought a new 2017 ford f-350. after driving the truck around 24000 miles it started this horrible shaking and almost lost control. researched the symptoms referred to as death wobble. the truck has been back to the dealer where i bought it 4 times and they haven't been able to fix it. if you are driving down the road at 60 mph and hit a bump the truck violently shakes back and forth and it real hard to control it. you have to slow down as fast as you can with out using the brakes if you step on the brake the shaking gets more violent. type in death wobble on google it is hard to believe as common as this problem is that there is not a recall on these trucks. rolling down the freeway going to houston thanksgiving day it started to the wobble 12 times in 50 mile span each time having to try to steer onto the shoulder and slow down as fast as you can and try to not get run over in the traffic.

In november 2019, at approximately 14k miles on the vehicle while driving on a nevada freeway at speeds over 50 mph the vehicle unexpectedly and without warning exhibited violent shaking in the front end and steering wheel causing the vehicle to be difficult to control. during this episode, the vehicle was not towing. the violent shaking stopped after slowing the vehicle to approx 30mph. returning to ca the vehicle did it several times and was sent to the dealership where ford tsb 18-2268 was performed. the problem seemed to be fixed until recently on 01/01/2020, it returned at 19.8k miles. this time pulling a 40 foot 5th wheel trailer at approx 55 mph on a ca freeway when the front began violently shaking after driving over a small bump in the freeway. the vehicle was difficult to control and maintain within a lane of travel with the trailer attached. the violent shaking only stopped after slowing to approx 30 mph.

Death wobble at speeds over 60mph. the truck only has 40k miles.

Was on the highway, in a 65mph zone, when i hit a bump, and the whole truck started to violently shake. i tried to pull over, thinking it was a tire blow out, but the steering wouldnt react. i slowed down, and about 20mph, as people around me almost hit me, the truck came back in control, and stopped shaking. i speed back up like nothing happened.... my wife and son was witness. this also happened at around 12k milage, but this time was much worse......all tires were fine, and after it came back in control...it hasnt done it again, yet...

I was traveling down the highway at approximately 60 mph and hit a bump. my vehicle began shaking violently. i had to abruptly decelerate down to 35 mph to get ot to stop shaking. i believe it's called a death wobble. i've had my vehicle in to the ford dealership twice to have it fixed to no avail. i had the whole front end rebuilt. $1500 down the drain. i had a 2012 f350 that did the same thing. this wobble has happened to me many times. most recently it happened on 12/22/2019.

I was traveling at approximately 65mph on i84 when i hit a rough patch of road and i almost lost control of the truck. the steering wheel began to shake violently and the the entire truck began to shake making it next to impossible to control the truck. i came to a stop on the emergency lane and truck continued to shake until i came to a complete stop. very dangerous situation, the highway had a slight left bend when i drove over the rough spot which is not even that bad of a spot and i drive it everyday with my other vehicle. it felt as though the steering had broken loose and had there been other vehicles around it could have been very bad if not deadly.

After hitting a bump in road vehicle shimmy's till speed is reduced to 20-25 miles a hour. seems to happen more often when i am in a curve. happen on free way and two lands. usually of 60 miles per hour. less prevalent at lower speeds. first noticed when truck was new in 2017. dealer said could find nothing wrong with truck. i just got back from dealer service for same problem 1650 dollars still doing same shimmy.

With 19721 miles my truck at highway speeds after hitting a bump would start shaking uncontrollably. dealer put a new steering damper on it. now with 23341 miles on it its doing it again. dealer says a part ford says will fix problem is back orderd this truck is un safe to drive as is.

My 2017 f350 has 34k miles. if any bump in the road is hit it causes the truck to violently shake. any speeds over 65mph this will happen. i have almost lost control 2 time. the violent shake continues until you can slow the truck to 20-30mph. someone is going to die. ford is not stepping up and fixing this. please help!

After hitting a bump in the road at speeds above 45 mph the truck begins to wobble and i lose steering until i slow down and the wobble subsides. i took the truck to a ford dealership in jun 2019 when the truck had 35k miles. the dealership replaced the damper assembly and told me the problem has been fixed. the truck continued to have the issue and i brought the truck back in nov 2019 with 40k miles and they told me everything was fine. i complained and said the wobble still continues. they then decided to decreased front wheel caster one degree and charged me $600. they said this would fix the problem. the truck is still experiencing wobble and i fear that ford is not addressing the urgency of this issue. i am not sure where to take my truck for service is ford dealerships are ubable to fix the issue.

Vehicle randomly experiences "speed wobble". happens at highway speeds if the vehicle hits even a small imperfection in the road. the front axle will start oscillating so vigorously that the front tires start to bounce up and down, side to side. this only stops bouncing if you you apply the brakes and slow down to about 20 mph. very dangerous on they highway.

We were driving our f350 with 31,000 miles on it down the highway towing a camper at 65 mph. we hit a small bump in the highway and the steering wheel started shaking violently causing me to almost run off the road before getting it stopped. immediately called my ford dealership and they said it is normal but to bring it in for repair? i took the truck in and they replaced the front steering stabilizer shock and said it was fixed. 900 miles later i am driving the truck down the highway towing a 12,000 lb. loaded gooseneck trailer down the road when it happens again at 60 mph! even worse this time. i called ford and they said again that it is normal and they will order an aftermarket steering stabilizer to put on it this time. this is bsolutely ridiculous and insanely unsafe. if my wife had been driving we would have wrecked both times for sure. i dont know how they can sell a 90,000$ truck knowing it has this problem! i have a video in mp4 format of the first time it ever did it to me but i cant get it to upload.

After two plus years and around 80,000 miles the steering wheel would shake vigorously after hitting a bump in the road. the shaking was so bad that you could hardly hang on to the steering wheel. the only way to stop the shaking was to slow down by at least 10 miles per hour. i then called the local ford dealership in platteville wisconsin and they identified the issue by calling it "the death wobble". they also said this was common on ford trucks after this many miles. the dealer said that ford would not cover the cost of the repair. i had them repair the truck and the total cost was $2,770.85 which i did pay.

At approximately 8000 miles on the truck going down the interstate at 65mph towing an enclosed 20ft trailer i hit a bump in the road and the steering wheel began to shake violently. i had to get hard on the brakes to bring it back under control. i took the truck to the dealership, they were helpful and understanding. they replaced the steering stabilizer and checked the alignment. at 14000 miles same thing happened again except i didn't have a trailer in tow. dealership replaced steering stabilizer with a newer model part per ford recommendation. most recently at 27000 miles it happened again while towing. dealership replace control arm bushings and track bar. the truck still feels sloppy in the steering and i have no trust in it. i plan on selling the vehicle as i'm actually scared to drive it. it should be noted that in every instance the dealer was able to duplicate the condition with no trailer attached.

My 2017 f350 has 15,000 miles on it and has experienced extreme death wobble at least 10 times. if you are going over 70 on the turnpike and hit a bump this happens. you need to make ford recall this before people die. my truck is 100 percent stock except for a rear sway bar i added, and has never been off road. it happened 9-28-19 3 times but has done this before. i have an appointment to have it fixed 12-19-19, but from what i have read fords fixes do not really fix the problem. please make ford recall this before people start dying on the highways.

This truck has developed the infamous death wobble. on a trip in november it occurred for the first time at 75 mph and we almost lost control of the truck and crashed. i limped it back home and took it to the dealer that i bought it from and who does all of the service on it. the necessary parts were ordered over 3 weeks ago and i am being told that these parts are on a nationwide backorder and it will be at a minimum of 6-8 more weeks.

At 17000 miles experienced steering oscillation and death wobble while driving 55mph or greater. extremely unsafe especially when pulling a trailer. have had parts replaced and serviced several times. most recent parts replaced at 35500. dealer has performed tsb several times. this issue is extremely common and is affecting a lot of these trucks.

Sustained steering wheel oscillation (aka death wobble) while driving down a road at approximately 55 mph i encountered a slightly rough patch of pavement. the steering wheel started to violently shake back and forth until i slowed to approximately 10mph and the oscillations ceased. ford does have a tsb out on the issue but they are only replacing the steering damper and not looking into the root cause. this has happened several times and the damper has been replaced once as well.

Driving truck on interstate experienced four events where entire truck shook violently. this caused things in cab such as cell phones coffee cups water bottles to fall into the foot well. each time my first reaction was to apply the brakes to lower speed at which time i estimate the violent shaking stopped around 35 mph. i took truck to the dealer after each event where they replaced the steering stabilizer twice but this has not corrected the issue. this was recommended within a service bulletin #18-2268. these four events exposed me to being rear ended since the braking required to stop the violent shaking is random to the vehicles cruising at interstate speeds with flow of traffic adjacent and behind me. during the most recent event (11/17/2019) traveling in straight line the truck drifted half way into the lane to the left. what is occurring is that you can be traveling at 70 mph with clear weather and traffic and when you hit a pavement joint, it sets off this extreme violent uncontrolled harmonic vibration event that instinctively you brake hard to get out of the cycle. fortunately, the vehicles behind where also able to reduce their speed in time from 70 mph to around 35 mph for an event they have no ability to predict. this condition has made me and my family very apprehensive about driving the vehicle. after the last event on 11/17/2019 my wife and i discussed taking side streets home from our destination but decided to take the interstate at reduced speed in relation to flow of traffic.

While driving between 55-70 mph, the steering wheel begins to shake violently in the truck if you drive over the slightest road imperfection. i have called ford with my vin number and was told that there was no recall or service bulletin for this problem. however, they did say that this was a widespread issue. i was advised that the steering components and track bar was subject to premature failure.

Vehicle owner was travelling at 65mph on four lane interstate. upon crossing over an expansion joint at an overpass the steering and front end began shaking violently and uncontrollably. the shaking persisted until speed was reduced to under 45mph. no vehicles were present in the adjacent lanes. if there were it is very likely an accident would have occurred.

Hit a bump in the road at 50mph +, the steering wheel began to shake violently making the vehicle impossible to control. i had to hit the brakes hard and slow way down to regain control of the truck. this nearly caused the car behind me to rear end me on one occasion. this has happened to me 3 times in the last month. i have only experienced this unloaded with no trailer on straight roads, thus far. the vehicle is right at 19,000 miles, still under warranty. it should not behave this way. even when the wobble doesn't happen, the vehicle will sometimes jump to one side or another going over angled joints in the road. if you are not paying extreme attention, you will be in the median. this has happened many times in the last few months. it simply isn't very safe to drive without a high payload. the wobble occurred multiple times at the same bridge joint going in two directions. the jumping to the side occurs almost daily at the same joint. the wobble occurred a separate time on another road. both roads are 2-3 lane city thoroughfares. not really city street or highways, but i supposed divided highway is the best description . i just replaced stock/original tires, hoping those have something to do with it.

While driving highway-speed about 65 mph, the truck hits a grove in the highway road and started to shake violently and uncontrollable. i slowed down while trying to keep the truck in one lane and it stopped the bucking/wobble action when the speed was reduced to 20 mph. this has happened twice in the past week and vehicle is scheduled to be looked at in the service center.

While driving at 65 mph on a highway hit a small pothole and the steering / front suspension started wobbling very violently, had no more control on the the steering. had to slow down and pull over on the shoulder. no damage visible to tires or steering components so i continued driving and the wobble was gone. this happened before on bridge joints in a curve for a short moment, but not as violently as today. truck seems not safe, will take it to dealer on monday.

I purchased a new 2017 f-350 a couple years ago. it has about 22,000 miles on it. i experienced the "death wobble" yesterday for the second time. i now know why it's called that. i was going about 60mph on a two-lane highway when the truck and steering started shaking violently. i almost crashed trying to slow it down and definitely could have killed me! it sounds as if this is becoming all too common of a problem with these trucks. i'm scared to drive again!

Traveling on a paved highway at 60 mph. the roadway had a bumpy section. when driving thru the bumpy section, the front end of the truck began to shake violently and nearly caused a loss of control. it continued to shake until the truck speed was reduced below 30 mph.

I was driving down the freeway to work at approximately 70 mph when my truck started to shake so bad in the front end i almost took out the vehicle to my left and ended up halfway in the ditch. i had 0 control over my truck

I have a 2017 ford f-350 super duty. over the last two months i have had two situations during acceleration on a highway where the vehicle almost shakes/vibrates apart on the front end. i have reported the issue to ford two times now. when it first occurred in nov 2019 with 19k miles on it, they told me they never heard of this issue. when it happened again on the 29th of december i took it back into the dealer and mentioned that i almost lost control of the truck and the wife refuses to drive it on a highway. they admitted there is an issue. either my truck or their design is unsafe. massive wobble/vehicle vibration - if i was in a corner i would have been in an accident.

Truck is once again experiencing what is widely known as the "death wobble". truck was supposedly repaired in nov 2018 per tsb#18-2268. when vehicle hits rough road or bridge transition strips on highway the front end begins to violently shake side to side and up and down, causing this to be transmitted to the steering wheel. when this happens at the only way to stop it is to quickly slow to approximately 30 mph. when forced to do this on a highway i've nearly caused accidents due to the required quick deceleration. this is a widely reported problem that ford wants to blame on the vehicle owner, saying that it is the result of improper owner care or not having enough weight in the bed of the truck!! owners are dumbfounded that a recall has not been issued on the ford super duty trucks. this is an extremely dangerous fault that is going to eventually result in tragic accidents if it hasn't happened already. dealer has had my truck for over 3 weeks now, stating that ford is backlogged on sending required parts to repair. totally unacceptable when the vehicle is required for business.

Driving on highway at approximately 60mph, road imperfection caused violent shaking in front end of vehicle (death wobble). vehicle was difficult to steer and seemed to take longer than usual to slow down. went away at lowers speeds (30 mph or so). problem re-occurred 5 times during our road trip

Steering or suspension goes into a violent shacking often referred to as death wobble after hitting certain bumps on a roadway. bumps appear to involve both front tires possibly when one tire hits first similar to bridge joints or pavement breaks. at highway speeds about 55 or greater, only had happen when driving straight. the steering while shakes back and forth about 1-inch each way with truck body shaking. it appears to worsen if breaking hard so slow deceleration has been my practice. when towing trailer have used manual application of trailer brakes to drag truck slower which seems better. experienced when driving truck only and also when towing a fifth wheel 12k pound trailer or a 7k pound hitch pull box trailer. truck weighs about 9k pounds. ford dealer has serviced unit according to service bulletin #18-2268. four visited for repairs and a few additional visits for inspection before ordering parts. ford company issued a case number cas-17515150-l3w8h1. this case case closed by ford following the last repair with out confirming with be it had been fixed. i presently had ford dealer order new tires for install on 10/28/2019 then hope to have alignment checked again as well look for any new signs of wear on components. last trip from eminence , mo to dixon il experienced this death wobble 7 times. combined vehicle weight about 22k pounds.

In oct. 2019 i was headed to texas from minnesota with my 2017 f-350 diesel with only about 28,000 miles on it and was pulling my 43 ft 5th wheel trailer, i hit a bump in the hwy while traveling 70 mph, the truck started to shake violently, i had to apply the breaks hard to get it to stop shaking and all most lost control of the truck and trailer. it was a good thing no one was next to me as i ended up on the shoulder of the road and had to bring the truck down to around 30 mph before it stopped shaking. this happened one more time while on my way to texas and once again it shook violently till i got it slowed down to 30 mph. i put the truck into a ford dealer in mineral well's, tx and they replaced the steering stabilizer. i left tx and was going to az, i was there for a few months and had to return to mn for 1 month but left my 5th wheel trailer behind and just drove the truck back, then on 1/29/2020 i headed back to az with my truck and not pulling anything. on my return trip to az i hit a bump on the hwy at 70 mph and the truck started to once again shake violently and had to hit the breaks and get it slowed down to 30 mph before it stopped shaking, there was only about 6,000 miles on the truck since it's repair. now i'm back in :az ( 1/31/2020) and i have a appointment at the ford dealer here on 2/13/2020 to repair this problem once again. this shaking gets so bad that i don't know if i want to keep the truck, someone is going to get killed if ford doesn't get this problem corrected.

When traveling at highway speeds the truck violently shakes and is uncontrollable after hitting bumps or potholes. in order to regain control of the vehicle, hard braking must be applied to reduce speed rapidly. this has happened several times while driving at highway speeds. the vehicle has been to three different ford dealerships and had three different supposed service bulletin fix repairs performed. yet here we are still with the death wobble.

2017 ford f-350 superduty truck experienced severe steering/suspension wobble when encountering bumps in roadway. four incidents occurred, with three occurring in the sept. 18-26, timeframe in 2019.while traveling at 65 to 70 mph. vehicle was hard to control during the wobble, and required slowing to 20-25mph to stop the shaking. other vehicles following me at the listed speeds were required to brake quickly to avoid collision with my vehicle. all incidents occurred on interstate highways. vehicle mileage was approx. 17000 miles at the time.

Another victim of death wobble. it's happened twice, once with truck alone (january 2019) and another time pulling a 5th wheel trailer (9/22/2019)...both downhill in the mountains. the truck just started shaking violently until i was able to slow down enough to make it stop. the first time the dealer installed some caster shims, the 2nd time they said everything looked fine and no issues with the suspension.

While driving on the freeway i crossed an expansion joint where there is a bridge, the vehicle because to shake and bounce all over the lane, it is scary and dangerous. i had to slow down to ~30 mph in the middle of traffic on the freeway to bring the vehicle back under control. the vehicle only has 26,000 miles on it and has already been to the dealer for service for this issue in the past.

Driving down highway around 75 mph and ran over a rough patch in road and my steering wheel started shaking violently. whole truck shook. slowed down to 60 and it stopped. pulled over to inspect under front end and rear. couldn't find anything out of place. got back on h.w. and got back up to 75 and no shaking. hit another spot on a bridge where pavement connects bridge and it happened again. took to dealership and they told me it that i needed new tires. which i did. replaced with factory michelins. they also put a new steering damper on. got truck back several days later and while driving under 60 there are no problems. above 60 the steering starts shaking a bit, but not like the death wobble. at 75 mph it is the same, along with what seems to be a rear end vibration. called dealership and they said a part was on back order and would call. haven't heard back in months. so, i called and they said the part is on back order. having to borrow a car from mother in law to get around. i purchased a warranty that will expire at 60,000 and was told that if i go over, it will still be under the original claim and i would not have to pay the $75 deductible. i will get that in writing hopefully this week. with these vibrations, it know it will wear out other front end parts like ball joints and tie rods that hopefully will be replaced at no cost. doubtful! this is my 4th ford truck and have not had any of these problems with other trucks. i have only 57,000 miles and this should be a recall and ford is running from it. very disappointed. please help!
