My wife and i were on our way home from a shopping trip late one saturday evening. we were on a texas farm to market road driving appx. 65 mph. we hit a small rough place in the road and truck started shaking violently almost uncontrollable i immediately applied the brakes. i had to almost stop in the road before it stopped shaking, it was unsteerable while it was shaking. when we found a safe place to pull over i got out and looked at the front end. i could see nothing wrong so we finished our trip home only driving about 45 mph. when we got home i googled the problem only to find out several people have had this problem (death wobble) i drove it to my dealership monday morning and told them about the issue. they handed me a preprinted technical service bulletin #19-2274 dated 10 september 2019 and basically said there was nothing they could do until ford came up with another fix. apparently this service bulletin did not solve the problem . this was on 16 december 2019. please help!
On 12/14/19 at approximately 2:25 pm central time, we experienced the "death wobble" in our 2019 ford f-250 6.2l v8 while driving south along i-35 in southern kansas by mile marker 31.6, just north of the ks/ok state line. the air temperature outside was 39 degrees fahrenheit. the bed of the pickup (with tonneau cover) was empty and without load. the highway at that segment was in good condition, but there was a regular expansion joint across both lanes of the highway. we were traveling at a speed of 77 mph on the outside (right) lane when we crossed the joint. at that point, the "death wobble" began. the driver immediately disengaged the cruise control, gently applied the breaks, and attempted to move toward the right shoulder of the road. the wobble continued and did not cease until the vehicle came to a complete stop. after gather our bearings, we reentered traffic. we did not experience it again for the next 50 miles we traveled home. however, once entering oklahoma, where the highway is significantly in greater ill-repair, the driver continued with caution at a speed no greater than 70 mph and without cruise control.
Vehicle begins to shake violently when at interstate speeds(70+mph) when hitting rough areas or entering bridges. today we almost hit a bridge when it happened. it has happened 4 or 5 times in the month. the only way to stop it is to quickly reduce speed and fight steering wheel with both hands. very difficult to do this on the interstate with other traffic. it began doing this 6 weeks ago at near 8,000 total miles. vehicle has been in shop twice for this in 3 weeks and is scheduled to go back monday. they replaced steering stabilizer the first time, alignment the second time, is supposed to have front end lifted monday. vehicle is 100% stock. returned vehicle to dealership today and told them they could keep it. if they don't make it possible to for us to trade it we plan on getting a lawsuit started against them. the dealership seems to know what needs to be done but are limited by ford on what they can do, depending on how many times it is brought in to be fixed. they said they can replace all the parts at once to fix it but are not allowed to by ford and are forced to do it in steps. this situation is very dangerous to the occupants and all other people in the vicinity of the vehicle when it happens. all of the problems have occurred between 7500 and 9300 miles.
Traveling the speed limit on the highway. 75 mph. road conditions smooth pavement, clear, dry, night. truck began to shake violently and veered into left lane. had to slow down to get shaking to stop. if there had been a car in the left lane we would have collided. *tr
My f250 is experiencing what they call the death wobble. i have taken it to 2 different ford dealers only to be told they have no fix for it and basically sent me on my way with it. no offer for a rental vehicle or anything. i was driving on i20/59 between exit 8 and 68 when it has occurred 3 times so far. almost lost control of the vehicle to the point my passenger refused to ride again. i hit a bump in the road and the vehicle started violently shaking all over the road and i could not get it out of this until i got down to 45 mph. we have had to cancel our vacation for christmas because we are scared of the vehicle. paid a lot of money for this truck to be worried about stuff like this.
Starting at 15,500 my truck started the so called "death wobble" ford has been having trouble with. this is my second new truck in 2 years with it and the problem doesn't get fixed. when hitting the slightest bump my truck becomes unstearable due to violent shaking. ford of uniontown has seen the video of my truck doing it, their service technicians have also experienced it and the only answer i get is " be careful" and one service tech said when he drove it he was afraid for the people next to him. i need a truck, i have a business, i need this resolved and not at my cost again. nor the lives of my family or someone else. i have video if i can upload it somewhere to show you.. please help
I have experienced "death wobble" multiple times. it happens when going above 50 mph on the highway. usually near a bridge or overpass. the vehicle steering becomes impossible to control and the steering wheel and the truck begin shaking violently. the first time it happened was at 6100 miles on an interstate while the truck was going 70 mph. the weather conditions were dry, no wind or rain, and the road condition was smooth. when it first happened, it surprised me and i did not know what was happening and the steering could not be controlled. my truck veered into oncoming traffic towards an 18 wheeler. i managed to steer out of their way on to the median and slow down to about 20 mph and the shaking stopped. the second time was a few hundred miles later when it happened again on a highway while i was going 65 mph. i took the truck into bob utter ford in sherman texas and the service advisor laughed at me and told me i had "death wobble". he wrote my name in a spiral notebook and then told me there is no fix for it. he stated ford has no fix at this time but that my complaint was in writing and if something comes from ford, he will give me a call. so i asked what am i supposed to do in the meantime. he stated, do not drive over 45 mph until ford comes up with a solution. they know it is a problem and they don't call it death wobble, they call it steering wobble and they aren't real good at coming up with a fix yet. the vehicle currently has 8100 miles on it and i have experienced "death wobble" again today while transporting my children to school. it is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when a person or an entire family for that matter is killed due to a faulty steering mechanism on this truck. please help us ford f250 truck drivers that have been unfortunate enough to purchase a truck that is a ticking time bomb for us.
Upon reaching highway speeds(approximately 55-75mph) the front end began to violently shake. this issue started as mere off tracking of the front end, the truck would steer itself. this ended up progressing into such a violent shake that it drove itself off the road. i had no control over the vehicle, and steering control is gone. i wound up in a ditch on my fourth experience with this violent shake.
While driving down the interstate on a warm, clear, dry day at a speed of approximately 75 miles per hour, on a straight section of road. i hit a small pot hole on the drivers side, front tire. at that exact moment, the steering wheel started to shake violently from left to right, and the entire truck began to "bounce" rapidly. the more pressure i applied to the brakes, the less control i had stopping the "bounce". in order to get control of the truck, i had to softly apply brake pressure, while also maintaining firm steering wheel control, until the truck came to an absolute stop. on that same drive home, now at a speed of 70 miles per hour, and about 30 minutes after the previously mentioned occurrence, i ran across an expansion joint of a bridge and road, the truck began shaking violently again for a second time. the same maneuvers as previously stated were used to get control of the vehicle for this second time. each occurrence took approximately 200 yard from start of bounce to complete stop. the truck was quickly taken to a tire/alignment shop for repair, if needed, however the repair shop stated that the truck did not need an alignment, though they did rotate the tires. the repair shop also stated that this behavior is now know as the "death wobble", and suggested reaching out to ford for suggestions.
Center lane of interstate at 70mph when crossing a bridge expansion joint the steering wheel began shaking uncontrollably and i was unable to steer until slowing to 30mph. this has happened 2x in 2 days. dealership says they will replace steering damper but that problem will return. force ford to correct this issue before someone dies.
Purchased a 2019 ford f250 super duty, super crew cab, four wheel drive truck. drove great until 21k miles. the notorious "death wobble" common to these trucks has started. driving i-25 last night, truck shook violently after driving over a bridge at 75 mph with loss of any control. immediately let up on the throttle and allowed the truck to slow under 50 mph and the wobble corrected. further investigation revealed nothing out of the ordinary with ball joints, suspension, etc. i will be going to the dealership to have this issue corrected. a relatively new truck with 20k miles should be just breaking in, not broken. a serious safety issue that is going to kill people if not rectified.
This vehicle and many more like it are experiencing what ford motor company is calling sustained steering wheel oscillation , when it is actually a death wobble that if not gotten under control immediately will lead to loss of control, which may involve serious injury or death, ford address this in tsb 19-2274 however they are not doing enough to make parts available to correct this dangerous condition. . i do not personally own one of these vehicles but i as a service manager at a ford dealer have seen that problem first hand over and over . there is no reliable avenue for us to contact ford for them to take us seriously so i hope this will not fall on deaf ears and action will be taken to prevent possible wrecks and fatalities . [xxx] being that i am a manager at a ford dealer i wish to have my identity protected due to possible backlash over this report [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *pm *tr
This vehicle was driving down a dry highway with a unloaded trailer. driver reported all at once a death wobble and had to slow down in traffic almost getting hit by another driver. cruising at 72 mph on a dry paved highway the vehicle shook and felt as if it would go out of control. our company purchased two within a short time of each other and they both have had the same issue more than once and are appearing more often.
Driving on a freeway the entire truck started to shake and vibrate as if we were driving on the worst road possible and all 4 tires had just blown out. we were able to keep control of the vehicle and slow down until we could pull off the road and stop. during our trip, this incident occurred 4 different times in the 2 days we traveled. we were able to finally return home and take the truck to our ford dealer. we were told that ford has known about this problem and has a "temporary" fix to change the "steering linkage damper" but will take at least 4 weeks before the part comes in. my vehicle is only one year old with only 4,000 miles on it. we researched this and it is known as the "death wobble" and has been occurring for years on the f250 and f350, yet i was sold this vehicle a year ago and i have never received any recall information or made aware of the problem. this is a serious issue and will lead to someone having a serious accident or even death.
Truck started violently shaking on highway and pulled me out of my lane. difficult to keep control.
While driving with my family after we just purchased our new f250 super duty we almost hit the car next to us and went in to a ditch. i was driving on the interstate at a speed of around 65 mph and all of a sudden the entire truck was violently shaking down the road and i could not maintain the truck in my own lane almost causing a multi car accident. i did not know what to do and had to call family members to come pick up my family which was 2 hours away from our home because they were crying and scared to ride in our new truck we just purchased. i thought maybe something was loose so i looked under the truck and made sure all lug nuts were tight whle on the side of the road for about an hour. turns out after research this is a known problem!!. i want this repaired by a dealership but do not know what the next steps are as of now this is obviously unsafe and could get someone seriously injured or killed.
My ford has 14300 miles on it. driving on the highway on 12-7-19 around 55 -65mph, the vehicle started shaking violently. i could not control the steering wheel. the shaking caused passengers coffee cups to slosh out of their cups it was so violent. this occurred on us hwy 79 near hutto texas around 8 pm in the evening.
On december 7th, 2019, two separate occurrences of violent front end shake/shimmy. this occurred at approximately 45/50mph on a flat rural road. through following research, i found that this is a very serious problem with the ford f250's and that it's titled the 'death wobble'.
Driving down the highway at 75 mph i hit a bump in the road and the front end started wobbling uncontrollably. i had to pull off to the side of the road and slow to 30mph until it stopped wobbling.
I was driving on the interstate at 75 mph when i hit a bump in the road. the front end of my truck started to shake violently and steering was terribly impaired. i had to pull off the highway and slow to 30mph to get control of the vehicle.my ford truck has only 22,000 miles. my 2012 ford truck did the same thing at 100,000 miles.
2019 f250, approx. 13k miles. travelling straight on highway 60-65 mph and truck entered into the well known "death wobble" or rapid, rhythmic, dangerous oscillation of the front tires causing loss of steering control. had to reduce speed to 10-15 mph to regain control. this has happened 2 times within 2 consecutive times of driving on the freeway in the same week. took it into the dealer and they test drove it and confirmed "death wobble". the part (steering dampener) they automatically prescribe (tsb 19-2274) to fix this is on back order 4-6 weeks and we were told "no loaner" and bring the truck back when the part is in. we said "so, we are supposed to drive our family around in a truck that is basically new with a death wobble?" to which the service manager responded "yeah, i know, crazy isn't it?". we already know that tsb 19-2274 is a band aid and not a real solution to the problem. most who get tsb 19-2274 done are back within a few thousand miles or sooner because death wobble has returned, because the root of the problem has not been fixed. we have a video of our loose tie rod ends clunking and lifting when the steering wheel is moved left and right. we told the service manager about these loose parts - nothing was looked at or recommended to be done regarding these loose parts. we have investigated this problem extensively online and it seems to be happening in epidemic proportions in 2017-2019 models. most "victims" of this problem end up in an endless cycle of trips to the dealership with continuing dangerous death wobble until their warranty is run out. the people who seem to have real success in permanent solutions go aftermarket, rebuilding the front end suspension at their own expense on their brand new trucks. this is criminal negligence. we have a crippled $50k truck - cannot even drive it on the highway! recall needed!!!!
Death wobble- freeway driving, uncontrollable, violent shaking, unresponsive steering and brake control. ford is aware of the problem. i have had in the dealership to resolve the issue, and it was not fixed. i am in fear for my life and my family as well as other drivers on the road as the truck is uncontrollable when this happens. this happened three times on the freeway, and then another after it was taken in to be fixed.
At approximately 60mph, the front end started shaking and truck became underivable. the common term for this is 'death wobble' and it has been reported to the dealership. i've had the same issues 5-6 times over the last 3 weeks.
Going down the free way hit a bump in the road the next thing the truck was shaking violently i couldn't control it.. i had to cross a line of traffic to pull over... this truck is brand new less than 10k miles ... i can tell you i have drove 100 miles in one day and it did that after violet shaking 9 times
At just over 20k miles on this truck that i purchased new about a year ago: driving at speed around 70mph after crossing an overpass on a newer highway the front end suddenly and violently started to shake and steering was compromised. i was finally able to pull over to shoulder of this multi-lane highway and when going slow enough the problem disappeared. i checked the tires and undercarriage and found no damage and no warning lights from vehicle. tpms system showed tire inflations between 59 and 65 psi on all four tires. i resumed driving and problem happened again about 10 miles further down the road. i pulled into the next rest area and did an internet search and found that this is a very well known problem with ford superduty pickups known as the "death wobble", although other manufacturers have similar problems reported. i've since learned ford even has a tech srvc bulletin out regarding this issue (tsb 18-2668). i went to the nearest ford dealership and explained the problem. the dealer said they get 4 to 5 complaints a week like this. we talked in general terms until i mentioned i had found the reference to a death wobble. upon hearing that the dealer said they could not bring it up, but now that i had mentioned it they were free to discuss the problem. they said ford has a precise set of processes in place to deal with this problem and they must be followed in sequence. they said first step was to check tire inflation and they also said they should rotate tires. i mentioned that had been done at a different ford dealer for an oil change about 1k miles earlier. they said it didn't matter so they went ahead with those procedures. they also said the part in the tsb was on national backorder. problem re-occurred on drive home so problem was not fixed. have another appt with local ford dealer in 2 weeks, hopefully tsb parts are in by then.
Death wobble that others have described. i have 4300 highway miles on my vehicle. common issue on forum threads that i have read among super duty owners. terrifying wobble at 50 mph, almost ended up in a ditch. was able to regain control when speed was slowed to 25.
When truck hits a bump or enters a bridge at 65+mph on the interstate it pulls left and temporarily loses control of the steering with very hard vibration in front end. it continues to vibrate so hard you have pull over to a complete stop then take off again.
When driving over 50mph and hit a bump the death wobble occurs. sending vehicle out of control. truck has been doing it since the day we bought it.
Earlier today i experienced a loss of control at highway speeds while driving my 2019 f-250 fx-4. internet research this evening made me aware of the 'death wobble' that has been reported to your agency. the issue was resolved by quick deceleration - i actually pulled into the median and expected to see one of the wheels about to come off. i will follow up with ford but suspect that they are well aware of the problem and haven't developed a satisfactory solution.
12k miles on the truck. noticing the truck is wandering at highway speeds. vibration in steering wheel. then recently after going over highway bridge expansion joint the truck shook violently but went away after slowing down. i was not towing. just myself in the vehicle.
Severe shaking and movement in the steering system causing an almost loss in control. truck has been "fixed" once already and problem persists. this has happened on multiple occasions.
My vehicle experienced three "death wobble" occurrences. all within a few hundred miles of each other. starting at around 22,000 miles.(november 2019) extreme steering wheel oscillation and uncontrollable lane shifts. these occurred after hitting a pot hole or a seam in the road. all of my occurrences were at highway speed. the only remedy is to immediately brake hard and attempt to move to the shoulder. i contacted my dealer and the truck was given a new steering stabilizer per the most current tsb. i paid to have the truck re-aligned. (alignment was out due to the "death wobble" jarring the front end so hard) 4000 miles after this service, i started to experience "bump steer", humps in the road transfer to the steering wheel excessively. the truck is also pulling hard to the right. now at 8000 miles past the service the "bump steer" is even worse. there is noticeable play in the steering wheel and you must work to keep the truck in your lane. having someone move the steering wheel while visually inspecting the steering components showed play in multiple linkages. tie rod ends and track bar heim joint both are worn out at less than 31,000 miles. unacceptable, and not safe. the steering stabilizer is a band-aide to push me out of my bumper to bumper warranty. it is on the edge of failing and sending the truck back into more "death wobble". this truck has only been serviced by ford. all recommended maintenance has been performed. including tire rotations. it is my opinion that steering components fail prematurely. the new steering stabilizer has not remedied the problem with my truck. it will be going back to the dealer for another round of service. it will need at a minimum a new track bar, tie rod ends and an alignment. ill be filing a reimbursement claim directly with ford if i am asked to pay for the alignment again this round.
At approximately 7 months after purchase, the truck started experiencing a minor "shutter" that seemed random. it worsened at speeds around 70mph & felt like driving over rough pavement. it was not constant. when encountered, it could be corrected by reduction in speed. the frequency & intensity of occurence increased to the point that in one day it happened 3 times (typical was 2-3 per week) and i almost lost control of the vehicle. i called my ford salesman and he came and picked up my truck. the service department looked over it and said nothing was wrong and that i must have gotten some bad fuel. i drove it again. it happened again. i took it back to ford and they let their diesel mechanic drive it home overnight. he couldn't reproduce the shuttering condition. i drove it for another month, experiencing multiple events. at my scheduled maintenance, i informed them that i was still having problems. a different mechanic drove it, experienced the truck shake when hitting a pot hole and said the steering damper was damaged and needing replacement. the replacement corrected the shaking for about 1 week at which point the shaking became violent with every bump. pot holes, bridge transitions, rough pavement...all uneven surfaces cause an event, some of which could literally be deadly. i lost all control of my steering on 3 occasions and had to come to nearly a complete stop to regain control. i've taken it to ford 4 time, concerned with my safety and the safety of anyone around me during an event. i have the death wobble and they can not fix it due to the steering parts being on back order. they already replaced once and it lasted a week. the brand new 2019 truck is unsafe to drive and no one can fix it. they indicated they're waiting on a recall or bulletin to tell them what to do. in the meantime i have a $70k truck i can't drive. it will get someone killed.
Violent shaking of the front end at speeds over 60 mph. has happened twice the past two weeks. dealership says part is on backorder. not safe to drive.
A few times now my f250 has gone into a death wobble while traveling approximately 70 mph on the highway. it takes all my strength to keep the truck in control and come to almost a complete stop, for the shaking to cease. dampener was replaced once, and the same problem occurs. it is in the shop again and now waiting a week with no answer. i will not put my family in this truck as it is too unsafe and unpredictable. we all need ford to fix the problem.
Truck vibrates violently after hitting a bump at higher speeds on the highway. i have to slam on the brakes and slow down to approximately 20 mph to get the truck to stop shaking. the violent shaking only happens when truck is above 45mph. shaking comes on suddenly and feels like it veers to the left. this issue has happened 3 times in the last month.
I am experiencing what is referred to as a death wobble at highway speeds over 50 mph. i currently have 14k on the odometer. dealer or ford has not repaired at this time. wobble is getting worse. the only way to stop is to slow the vehicle down. i do not feel safe driving the vehicle on the highway anymore. dealer did not disclose issue before recently purchasing the 2019 f250 and from what i am finding out on the internet the issue has been known from as early as 2005.
On 11-15-2019 while on hwy i-95 south, at about 72mph , my f250 started shaking violently at the front end after going over slightly rough patch of road. the shaking was so violent that i lost control of the vehicle for a few minutes. vehicles near me had to avoid me until i was able to slow down to about 25mph. had i been on a curvature , i would have surely crashed. on 11-17-2019 , i experienced the death wobble again on at about the same speed , this time i was with a colleague on the passenger side, the shaking was very scary and worrying. this problem with the f-250 trucks is apparently not uncommon, we pulled over and did a google search , it appears that this problem is nothing new , but ford has not made consumers aware of it ,and continues to sell the vehicle with out informing the public. do people have to die first ??? please help. When driving the truck in city or highway if you hit a bump or bridge the steering warbles some time very villain. this make it very scary to drive been to the dealer and they replace the tie rod and damper and the steering still has the same thing.
On 11/4/19 while in motion the vehicle started the death wobble two times again on 11/14/19 the vehicle began the death wobble and my daughter caught the incident on
After putting 8,707 miles on my new 2019 f-250 super duty fx4 without incident, the front suspension has begun shaking violently when passing over highway expansion joints and/or bumps in the road surface at highway speeds. this has happened twice so far, both times while travelling between 65 to 70 mph in a straight sections of highway; once over a bump in the roadway, once over an expansion joint. the truck is impossible to control once the front suspension begins shaking violently, and only stops shaking after braking to a much lower speed. luckily, in both instances other vehicles on the road were able to avoid my truck as it drifted across lanes of traffic. in both instances, the only control i had was to brake. the service department representative at the local ford dealership told me that ford has known about the "death shake" issue in f-250 and f-350 four wheel drive trucks for several years, and i was advised to buy a 3.5 inch leveling kit, and dual steering stabilizer kits at my own expense, because the factory fix of replacing the defective ford steering dampener is not a permanent solution.
I entered ih10 east bound from johns road in boerne tx. at about the time i reached highway speed i hit a bump / pot hole on the road. after impact the truck immediately and violently started to shake and the steering wheel was shaking too. the whole truck started to shake, only stopping after slowing the truck to below 50mph. now the steering wheel is not centered and there is a constant vibration while driving. the truck feels loose while driving and wanders after hinting small bumps in the road. the truck has approx. 16,700 miles on it. purchased in april of 2019 new. f250 4x4 crew cab.
I was driving over 55 mph, i hit a bump created by the transition in the road surface from asphalt road to concrete bridge. my vehicle starting shaking violently and the steering when was going up and down, could not control truck in curve, near hit bridge retaining wall. had to hit brakes to slow down, then vehicle quit shaking and i was able to get control of the truck
The truck just turned 15,000 miles and has experienced severe death wobble and the dealership has no parts to fix my truck to make it safe to drive. it has happened at least 5 times with my wife and 3 kids in the vehicle. the truck becomes almost uncontrollable and you can barely brake or steer when the situation happens you have to try to get off the road asap and hopefully not cause an accident because the truck needs to slow down to almost a complete stop the get the uncontrollable shaking to stop.. from what i read on the internet, there is no fix and this truck is going to get me in to an accident. i have come close to hitting a center divide. this is my daily driver and the condition is getting worse. i fear that a wreck is eminent. hopefully it doesn't happen with my family in the vehicle. a fix is needed asap or ford needs to buyback these faulty vehicles.
When driving the front wheels shake when i hit bumps
When the tuck hit an average bump at highway speeds it goes into an uncontrollable shake for at least 30 second before recovering. this is very severe and happens routinely. my truck is currently at 4000 miles and this has happened 3 times.
2019 f-250 4x4 "death wobble" at 4,400 miles. i noticed on back roads at 45-55 mph front-end left acting like it was loose on steering, but i don't drive it much. took a trip and several times (10+) at 65-70 front would wobble a little when hitting small uneven pavement. one time it went into the death wobble and had to do an emergency stop into the median because it was shaking itself apart. shook so hard the water bottles were about to come out of console. i have called service center and left a message and emailed my service person and no response for 3 weeks now. i don't want to the truck until it is fixed fixed.
At hwy speeds hitting a small bumps in the road the truck steering shakes violently have to find a spot to shut the truck down to gain control again dealership says it's fine. can't steer it and lose control if you can't stop quickly . this has happen on hwy and major busy interstates my truck is not the only one doing this i know of several f250 superduty trucks that have this issue .it happen any time i drive the truck so i have parked it for now . started in october 18,000 miles truck only has 29,000 on it now but stopped driving it before i kill my self or hurt someone else on the road i have several videos of this happening
Death wobble
Speeds at 70 mph and truck hits rough section of pavement causes the whole front of the truck to seem like its coming apart. a few times it's caused loss of control
