Driving vehicle at 45 miles an hour. drove over an uneven patch of blacktop road and both front tires started wobbling. the term is called " death wobble".
At speeds above 45 mph, after driving over rough road, the steering wheel vibrates uncontrollably until speed is reduced. this is happening while in traffic and will eventually cause a serious accident or death! .
When driving at freeway speeds going over a rough patch of the freeway front end violently shakes uncontrollably to the point of having to stop completely. this has happened several times now and afraid to drive vehicle.
Driving 65 mph, encountered bump/ridge in highway surface. front end began shaking violently to the point of almost losing control. was able to brake abruptly and stop episode. this has happened two times recently.
I was driving down interstate at 70 mph. the truck began to shake uncontrollably. i had to stop each time to resolve the issue. the truck had less than 6000 miles on it with no modifications. extremely dangerous. this will kill someone. i usually use the truck to tow a 7000lb rv and cant imagine what would happen if i had been towing at the time. i contacted my local ford dealer and they acted as if it wasn't a big deal. this happened 3 times within a 20 mile distance. i was terrified to continue with my trip and was nervous the entire trip. please address this. i hear it is a common problem.
Me and my wife were driving down the highway 70-80 mph, and the truck began to wobble side to side, and i thought it was a flat tire. we slowed down to make sure everything was ok, and nothing was wrong. i started back on the highway, and about 10 minutes later we hit a bump going roughly 75 mph, and the truck again started wobbling, i felt like i had no control of the vehicle. i just purchased this truck with 18,862 miles on it, and currently there is 19,541 miles on the odometer. i am going to take it to the dealership because i still have the manufacture warranty on the vehicle, but i feel very intimidated to drive it, and my wife refuses to drive the truck after this incident. all i have been able to see is that this is a result of the ford "death wobble". i do not know what components of the vehicle are causing this, but it is very frustrating to spend the amount of money that we did, only to find it being a possible death trap.
Death wobble. front wheels violently shake back and forth after hitting a bump on pavement. i was driving at 70mph on highway.
'death wobble' intense vibration and loss of control when i hit a bumps at highway speeds. the only way to stop it is to slow down to almost a complete stop
I was drivng interstate accelerating to about 75 when my front two wheels begin bouncing really bad. the entire truck begin shaking, the steering wheel was shaking. i felt like i was loosing control of the vehicle, my little girls were in the truck and witnessed the event. i immediately being braking and was almost run into from behind. the shaking continued till i slowed down to between 30 and 40 miles hours.
Driving down the highway at 70mph, i hit a rough patch on highway and suddenly the steering wheel started vibrating vigorously, whole truck was shaking and pulling to the left. i struggled to control it and began to slow down, at around 45-50mph the shaking stopped and regained control of the steering. truck continue to have excessive shaking when hitting small bumps on highway. this happened on the day i picked up the used truck from the dealership as i was driving home, truck approximately 37,700 miles. the next day on my way to work, i hit a small bump on the highway going 72mph and steering wheel began vibrating, but was not a vigorous as day prior.
Death wobble over the past 5 months (it is now 1/30/2020) the entire front end of the vehicle shakes violently and uncontrollably at a high rate of speed, typically highway speeds, ranging anywhere from 50-80 mph. although, it has happened at a speed of about 40-45. it happens out of nowhere with no apparent provocation, i.e., hitting a pothole, turning, hitting the brakes, etc. it usually happens when driving in a straight line and nothing seems to make it stop. i've tried hitting the brakes, slamming the brakes, continuing to hold my speed steady, accelerating slightly, and praying to god to make it stop. nothing works, it just eventually stops but not before traffic clears all around me. it is noticeable from outside the vehicle as i have seen drivers hit the brakes and fall back in traffic around me. the violent shaking makes it difficult to keep the vehicle steady or in my lane of traffic. the violent shaking makes the vehicle bounce all over the road. it makes it impossible to hold the steering wheel steady or straight. it is terrifying and unnerving. i believe it is going to kill me or someone else. i haul trailers with heavy equipment almost daily. many times i am on the highway or on city streets. if it continues to happen, the damage will be costly and may kill innocent people, including myself. i am afraid to think what will happen if these unexpected, violent shakes happen while i am hauling heavy equipment.
1/31/2020 driving approx 65 mph on interstate i hit a small undulation and the front of my vehicle began to oscillate violently. it was almost impossible to maintain grip on wheel. i was unable to immediately slow or pull over due to traffic and guard rails. i was in the process of making a right merge to another interstate and this was simply impossible. after clearing the guard rail i was able to ease to shoulder and slow to approx 20 mph. this stopped the violent shaking and i regained control. less than 1/2 mi later i hit another normal undulation at approx 50 mph and same thing occurred, i was traveling in a straight line and slowed to 25 mph in center lane of interstate to regain control. i immediately took to the ford dealership which denied ever hearing of anything like this, however conducting my own research this was clearly the "death wobble". this is a new vehicle w/ low milage and w/o exception every non ford specialist i have spoken with is very familiar with this. this is clearly a design flaw and if it hasn't already, will result in serious if not fatal accident. given all the info available on the web including a class action suit, ford's denial is simply a lie. i have 3 children and this truck is my primary source of transportation, after experiencing the "death wobble" no parent of sound mind would ever put children in this vehicle w/o this issue being certifiably resolved. my vehicle has no after mkt parts and and very low milage. i am still well with my warranty
While driving on a congested four lane interstate highway i experienced a steering malfunction that was horrifying. i purchased my 2019 f250 new in early november 2018. there have been no modifications to the original equipment. the truck had approximately 21000 miles at the time of the first event which occurred on wednesday, jan. 29, 2020. as previously stated, i was driving in the far left lane of a congested interstate highway in the metropolitan st.louis missouri area. i was driving under the posted speed limit due to the volume of vehicles on the road at that time. i was in the far left lane due having no plans to exit the interstate for many miles and to avoid all of the vehicles switching lanes to exit the interstate. the condition of the pavement did not raise any obvious concerns but we have had some freeze/thaw weather this winter season. i would characterize/associate the onset of the event with a moderate bump in the pavement, possibly a raised joint from the recent freeze/thaw weather conditions. the contact with the pavement defect initiated a steering bump to the left towards a concrete retaining wall at which time i responded by increasing my grip on the steering wheel more firmly to bring the vehicle back to the center of the far left lane in which i had been travelling. the bump steering event spontaneously progressed to a violent front end wobble that was very intimidating to myself and my adult son who was riding in the front passenger seat. the wobble appeared to be associated with the front left side wheel but the entire front end was oscillating extremely violently. i was able to apply the right turn signal and navigate through the three congested lanes of traffic onto the shoulder and then an exit ramp at which time the event ceased once the vehicle slowed significantly prior to a stop. i experienced a second similar event sat, 2/02/20.
In motion on highway speed of 60-65 mph. smooth surface. experienced violent, uncontrollable shaking. slowed speed and attempted to pull over. shaking stopped after 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile. this is the 3rd occurrence in the past 30 days. first time occurred after hitting bump in the road. next 2 occurrences began without warning. this most recent one that occurred on 1/27/2020 at 7:00 pm was the longest and most dangerous episode yet. have already contacted the dealer and they called it the 'death wobble' and ordered parts.
Driving 68-70mph down freeway and the truck starts to death wobble. had to pull over to get it to stop. 2019 f250 16.9k miles. terrified my 14 year old daughter, could have caused an accident. vehicle is not safe.
Vehicle shake violently after going over a bump on highway and driving at highway speeds, to stop need to lower speed closer to +-30 mph, loose control of steering. problem nicknamed death wooble seems it is a normal problem on super duty models. safety issue.
Got the death wobble 4 times. have takin the truck to ford 2 times, each time they said it was fixed. steering wheel/vehicle shakes violently.
Driving at 45 mph and hit change in pavement from concrete to raised asphalt and front end/steering began to shake violently and did not stop until reached 20 mph. has happened again 3 more times at speeds around 70 mph on paved 3 lane highway with no control until reaching speed of 20 mph extremely hard to control vehicle and very very dangerous truck has under 30,000 miles on it. in dealership service department currently waiting to pick it up to find out what parts they have replaced. this is a very dangerous problem that ford needs to correct before people are hurt or killed
Hit a bump on the road at 45mhp and the truck starts to wobble violently had to tap the brake to stop it.
2019 f250 king ranch purchased new in late june 2019. front shimmy (also referred to as "death wobble"), started occurring at around 16,000 miles. the front wheels, suspension, steering column, etc,. will shake violently after passing over a bump, such as an expansion joint, potholes, or pavement overlaps at 60 mph or greater. happens mostly during interstate/highway driving. violent shaking will not stop until vehicle has slowed to < 25 mph. as soon as problem started, the truck was taken to the dealer service department. parts replaced as stated on the attached invoice dated 12/10/19. this did not correct the problem, so the vehicle was taken back to the dealer service department. the parts replaced are stated on the attached invoice dated 12/26/19. this did not correct the problem and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer service department on 1/14/20. the service manager stated that they are encountering the same issues with other f250 owners, especially with the 2017-2020 models. the parts manager ordered what he referred to as a "sleeve" that he hoped would fix the problem, but the part is on back-order for 4-8 weeks. the dealership will not provide a replacement vehicle for the time being, so i am forced to drive an unsafe vehicle.
At highway speeds, came over a rough patch, and the front end began to shake violently as though i had a flat tire. steering locked up, and i pulled over to see what the issue was. found nothing wrong. this was the second time this has occurred, the previous instance, the shaking stopped once i reduced speed, this time it continued until i came to a stop.
Vehicle had approximately 20k miles when the "death wobble" issue started. driving down the interstate at 75 mph, hit bumps or bridge expansions renders the truck uncontrollable with the only remedy to slow below 40 mph to cease. worst scenario almost sent my uncontrollable truck off the highway. very frightening and extremely dangerous. suppose it will take multiple fatalities and lawsuits before ford takes the issue seriously. getting nowhere with ford warranty service. about to trade this junk off for a dodge.
When accelerating on the freeway the car shimmies out of control
I own a 2019 f-250 and was driving at approximately 65 miles per hour and a car cut in front of me and i had to brake hard and the front end of my truck started shaking violently to the point where i though i would lose control. i had to brake even harder to regain control of the truck. i called my dealer/service and the tech told me "ford knows about the problem and he would order the parts!" ford: if you know of the problem then why not do a mass recall to save lives?
While driving north on illinois rt 29 near peoria, il, i traveled over an old set of railroad tracks that have been paved over. they stick up just enough to feel them when you pass over. after traveling over these at 60 mph, the front of my truck went into an instability involving extreme tire hop and shaking. the steering wheel oscillated rapidly and steering felt completely of control for about 4 seconds. luckily this was on a straight away that required little course correction. i have owned this truck for 3 days and traveled about 300 miles at various speeds, and this is the first occurrence. it is related to a resonance condition as it takes the right speed and loads into the suspension to create this dangerous condition. it is very scary. you need to investigate this in detail.
When hitting some bumps on the road at highway speed (40 to 80 mph.) the vehicle can begin to violently shake and will not stop shaking until bringing the vehicle to less than 10 mph or a complete stop. https://youtu.be/yogdzco-l7m
This truck has the "death wobble". we do not feel safe driving this vehicle. we have dealt with three dealerships and ford's customer service department, to no avail. we are told the part to fix this is on back log with no expected date given. in researching this issue it is obviously a very dangerous issue that is being blamed on a steering stabilizer, but also the front axels.
2019 f250 - 28,000 miles while drive approx. 70 mph down the freeway i hit an expansion joint in the road, at which point my truck went into what is known by most ford owners as the "death wobble" , i had to slow to 45 mph to get my truck back under control, this happened 3 more times during my trip until i could get it to a ford dealership. ford replaced the "steering dampner" and claimed that it is fixed, fast fwd two months, it happened again today to my wife while driving down the freeway, again at approx. 65-70 mph the truck will be going back to the dealership tomorrow for further investigation. this is a know problem with ford, there needs to be a factory recall on all super duty trucks so that ford can get this under control.
Driving at 79 mph on interstate i-10 near casa grande arizona on 12/29/2019 went over a bridge expansion joint, on newer pavement since the expressway was redone this year, the truck experienced the "death wobble". severe wheel bouncing and steering wheel vibrations. had to rapidly reduce speed to under 60 mph to regain control of the truck. this the second such occurance on different roads since i bought the truck. mileage now is 16998.
Truck exhibited severe front end shaking while accelerating around 45mph. approx 6180 miles on vehicle at time of event. event occurred on paved road with some rough patches. shaking was extremely violent and persisted, causing me to rapidly brake. symptoms subside after dropping speed to 20mph or so. drove a few hundred yards to shoulder. stopped and visually inspected tires and under carriage for loose hardware. no problems observed. drove another 15 miles to a location where i could get underneath the truck to better inspect. further inspection didn't show anything loose or worn.
There is a severe oscillation of the steering system when hitting a bump in the road, bridge expansion joint, etc. this is knows as death wobble. the vehicle shakes violently and control is lost until there is a significant decrease in speed. mine will do this oftentimes at 40-50mph and also at highway speeds. this is a very widespread issue. ford has been putting "band aid" on things to get it out of warranty. further, i know there has been a redesigned damper that was to come out last week. it was scrapped and supposed to start over with the vendor. this is per conversations with the advisor at the ford dealer. it is not a one time occurrence.
In asheville, nc; driving 2019 f250 on interstate highway at approximately 70 mph in a straight line, rough pavement created a severe shaking (wobble) to the entire truck. had to pull over onto the shoulder of the highway and almost stop before shaking/wobble ceased. checked to ensure all tires were inflated and continued down the interstate. after travelling approximately 10 additional miles, hit a rough bridge approach slab which caused the violent shaking/wobble to occur once again. pulled off once again and had to slow to approximately 3 mph before shaking ceased.
When driving at 50-55 mph, vehicle has went into extremely violent, uncontrollable shaking multiple times after driving over small bumps in road (it happens intermittently, and with bumps you normally would not notice or adjust speed for in a small car). the vehicle cannot be steered or controlled when this occurs other than applying the brakes. tthe brakes do not work or stop you as fast as they should when this happens (i am assuming due to all the shaking). last time this occurred it caused me to veer into oncoming traffic lane and i narrowly avoided a head on collision. if the oncoming vehicle had not reacted to my truck moving in to their lane we would have collided. this vehicle is very unsafe to drive until this problem is fixed. their has been no recall but ford has issued a tech bulletin about the issue. this problem is very dangerous and will result in lives lost (if it hasnt already). i am currently waiting for parts to fix this (ive already been waiting 10 days and ford has no clue when they will be in. i was told it might be as long as 60 days before parts come in (unless i use lemon laws to remedy it). how many 2019 f250s have been in head on collisions this year? is there a statistical difference? how many times does this have to happen before something is done? i was told by the dealer that there are 2-3 other trucks ahead of mine waiting on the same part. the truck has been driven 7 months and only has 13,000 miles on it,
Experiencing violent shaking of front end and steering wheel known as the death wobble traveling at speeds of 50 to 70 miles per hour. have to brake and wrestle it to a stop to get control of the vehicle...this is very dangerous in traffic. has happened several times
While driving at approximately 75mph with my family in the vehicle, we went over a small bump on the highway which seemingly triggered a violent shaking of the steering wheel/suspension. i was traveling in the left lane and had to make my way over to the side of the road (while the violent shaking continued). the shaking didn't stop until the vehicle came to a complete stop. i had purchased the truck as a certified ford from a local dealer at 16,500 miles just 2 days prior. a relative was following us and followed us to the side of the highway and then said to me that it looks like you have the ford death wobble. he is a heavy equipment mechanic and was responsible for ordering and maintaining their super duty fleet. i was obviously dry concerned that my new (to me) $50,000 truck had this problem known as the death wobble. anyway, we made it to our destination driving at 55mph and on the way home the violent shaking occurred 3 more times, nearly causing accidents every time. i drove straight to the dealer where i purchased the truck and returned it. the dealer wanted the opportunity to repair the truck and refused to take it back. after reading various blogs, getting this truck repaired was a long even and no one seemed to have the exact fix. i wasn't willing to endure this and phoned my bank and.stopped them from funding the loan. the fact that a truck has an issue known as the death wobble is a testament to the dire need to force a fix/recall before this engineering/manufacturing issue kills. had i been towing my daughter's horse, things could have been deadly. it's beyond me how this has not been addressed at the federal level (forced recall) to date as it is my understanding that this has been an issue for over a decade on super duties (and other manufacturers).
I believe i have experienced the known 'death wobble'. when going 65 mph or more and hit a bump with a turn i'd lose control and my truck would feel like my front tires had blown or shocks had failed. i'd slow down and pull over and the truck looked fine. at lower speeds it does not seem to happen. i've experienced it twice now. all ford has said is i need a new steering stabilizer, that is on back order. they claim that will ' fix ' the problem.
On three occasion now while driving on the highway at a high rate of speed around 75-80 mph the vehicle started shaking and i couldn't control the steering. felt like i was loosing control of the vehicle and was thankful there was no other vehicle next to me because i would have surely been in an accident because of the violent vibration and loss of control of the steering and the drifting of the vehicle into other lanes due to the lack of steering control. i had to slowly lower my speed. as a result, i am afraid to drive my vehicle. i took it to the dealership and they said there is nothing wrong with it. as of today the vehicle is at the dealership because of it happening again and hopefully they find and fix the problem.
Ford needs to fix the death wobble on this trucks ,,,,,,,i'm almost have a accident that day
While driving my 2019 f250 super-duty on 4 lane highway in clear weather i drove through a dip in the road and the truck started shaking violently and osculating from side to side . i had to grip and immediately grip and start to brake to regain control of my vehicle. i slowed to get it to stop and proceeded on with caution. this truck has 19305 miles showing when this first happened. i am afraid to let my family in my new truck.
Hit bump on highway and get terrible death wobble. steering wheel shakes violently to the point you have to move over and slow down when it's safe too.
At highway speed when i drive over a bump or expansion joint on a bridge it initiates extremely severe shaking/wobble of the front suspension of the truck. the shaking/wobble will not stop until i hit the brakes and slow down to about 30 mph. this is an extremely traumatic experience. the truck is 11 months old. this has happened three times. the first event was in october 2019 at 17,000 miles on the odometer and the last time in december 2019 with 20,400 miles on the odometer.
We were driving down the interstate at 70 miles per hour and hit a bump in the road and the steering wheel began excessively shaking. we lost complete control of the vehicle and had to carefully slow down and come to a stop on the side of the highway. this has happened multiple times now. we took the car into ford for service. they are aware of the issue, called "death wobbles" and says the part needed to fix is on a national backorder with no eta.
On 12/14/19 at approximately 2:25 pm central time, we experienced the "death wobble" in our 2019 ford f-250 6.2l v8 while driving south along i-35 in southern kansas by mile marker 31.6, just north of the ks/ok state line. the air temperature outside was 39 degrees fahrenheit. the bed of the pickup (with tonneau cover) was empty and without load. the highway at that segment was in good condition, but there was a regular expansion joint across both lanes of the highway. we were traveling at a speed of 77 mph on the outside (right) lane when we crossed the joint. at that point, the "death wobble" began. the driver immediately disengaged the cruise control, gently applied the breaks, and attempted to move toward the right shoulder of the road. the wobble continued and did not cease until the vehicle came to a complete stop. after gather our bearings, we reentered traffic. we did not experience it again for the next 50 miles we traveled home. however, once entering oklahoma, where the highway is significantly in greater ill-repair, the driver continued with caution at a speed no greater than 70 mph and without cruise control.
Vehicle begins to shake violently when at interstate speeds(70+mph) when hitting rough areas or entering bridges. today we almost hit a bridge when it happened. it has happened 4 or 5 times in the month. the only way to stop it is to quickly reduce speed and fight steering wheel with both hands. very difficult to do this on the interstate with other traffic. it began doing this 6 weeks ago at near 8,000 total miles. vehicle has been in shop twice for this in 3 weeks and is scheduled to go back monday. they replaced steering stabilizer the first time, alignment the second time, is supposed to have front end lifted monday. vehicle is 100% stock. returned vehicle to dealership today and told them they could keep it. if they don't make it possible to for us to trade it we plan on getting a lawsuit started against them. the dealership seems to know what needs to be done but are limited by ford on what they can do, depending on how many times it is brought in to be fixed. they said they can replace all the parts at once to fix it but are not allowed to by ford and are forced to do it in steps. this situation is very dangerous to the occupants and all other people in the vicinity of the vehicle when it happens. all of the problems have occurred between 7500 and 9300 miles.
Traveling the speed limit on the highway. 75 mph. road conditions smooth pavement, clear, dry, night. truck began to shake violently and veered into left lane. had to slow down to get shaking to stop. if there had been a car in the left lane we would have collided. *tr
My f250 is experiencing what they call the death wobble. i have taken it to 2 different ford dealers only to be told they have no fix for it and basically sent me on my way with it. no offer for a rental vehicle or anything. i was driving on i20/59 between exit 8 and 68 when it has occurred 3 times so far. almost lost control of the vehicle to the point my passenger refused to ride again. i hit a bump in the road and the vehicle started violently shaking all over the road and i could not get it out of this until i got down to 45 mph. we have had to cancel our vacation for christmas because we are scared of the vehicle. paid a lot of money for this truck to be worried about stuff like this.
Starting at 15,500 my truck started the so called "death wobble" ford has been having trouble with. this is my second new truck in 2 years with it and the problem doesn't get fixed. when hitting the slightest bump my truck becomes unstearable due to violent shaking. ford of uniontown has seen the video of my truck doing it, their service technicians have also experienced it and the only answer i get is " be careful" and one service tech said when he drove it he was afraid for the people next to him. i need a truck, i have a business, i need this resolved and not at my cost again. nor the lives of my family or someone else. i have video if i can upload it somewhere to show you.. please help
I have experienced "death wobble" multiple times. it happens when going above 50 mph on the highway. usually near a bridge or overpass. the vehicle steering becomes impossible to control and the steering wheel and the truck begin shaking violently. the first time it happened was at 6100 miles on an interstate while the truck was going 70 mph. the weather conditions were dry, no wind or rain, and the road condition was smooth. when it first happened, it surprised me and i did not know what was happening and the steering could not be controlled. my truck veered into oncoming traffic towards an 18 wheeler. i managed to steer out of their way on to the median and slow down to about 20 mph and the shaking stopped. the second time was a few hundred miles later when it happened again on a highway while i was going 65 mph. i took the truck into bob utter ford in sherman texas and the service advisor laughed at me and told me i had "death wobble". he wrote my name in a spiral notebook and then told me there is no fix for it. he stated ford has no fix at this time but that my complaint was in writing and if something comes from ford, he will give me a call. so i asked what am i supposed to do in the meantime. he stated, do not drive over 45 mph until ford comes up with a solution. they know it is a problem and they don't call it death wobble, they call it steering wobble and they aren't real good at coming up with a fix yet. the vehicle currently has 8100 miles on it and i have experienced "death wobble" again today while transporting my children to school. it is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when a person or an entire family for that matter is killed due to a faulty steering mechanism on this truck. please help us ford f250 truck drivers that have been unfortunate enough to purchase a truck that is a ticking time bomb for us.
Upon reaching highway speeds(approximately 55-75mph) the front end began to violently shake. this issue started as mere off tracking of the front end, the truck would steer itself. this ended up progressing into such a violent shake that it drove itself off the road. i had no control over the vehicle, and steering control is gone. i wound up in a ditch on my fourth experience with this violent shake.
While driving down the interstate on a warm, clear, dry day at a speed of approximately 75 miles per hour, on a straight section of road. i hit a small pot hole on the drivers side, front tire. at that exact moment, the steering wheel started to shake violently from left to right, and the entire truck began to "bounce" rapidly. the more pressure i applied to the brakes, the less control i had stopping the "bounce". in order to get control of the truck, i had to softly apply brake pressure, while also maintaining firm steering wheel control, until the truck came to an absolute stop. on that same drive home, now at a speed of 70 miles per hour, and about 30 minutes after the previously mentioned occurrence, i ran across an expansion joint of a bridge and road, the truck began shaking violently again for a second time. the same maneuvers as previously stated were used to get control of the vehicle for this second time. each occurrence took approximately 200 yard from start of bounce to complete stop. the truck was quickly taken to a tire/alignment shop for repair, if needed, however the repair shop stated that the truck did not need an alignment, though they did rotate the tires. the repair shop also stated that this behavior is now know as the "death wobble", and suggested reaching out to ford for suggestions.
