Center lane of interstate at 70mph when crossing a bridge expansion joint the steering wheel began shaking uncontrollably and i was unable to steer until slowing to 30mph. this has happened 2x in 2 days. dealership says they will replace steering damper but that problem will return. force ford to correct this issue before someone dies.
Purchased a 2019 ford f250 super duty, super crew cab, four wheel drive truck. drove great until 21k miles. the notorious "death wobble" common to these trucks has started. driving i-25 last night, truck shook violently after driving over a bridge at 75 mph with loss of any control. immediately let up on the throttle and allowed the truck to slow under 50 mph and the wobble corrected. further investigation revealed nothing out of the ordinary with ball joints, suspension, etc. i will be going to the dealership to have this issue corrected. a relatively new truck with 20k miles should be just breaking in, not broken. a serious safety issue that is going to kill people if not rectified.
Driving the truck at approximately 55 mph. we hit a bump in the road and the truck began shaking violently in the front end. i slowed the truck to a stop, waited a minute and began driving, the shaking was gone and did not return. we did not hit any other bumps before we got home.
Truck started violently shaking on highway and pulled me out of my lane. difficult to keep control.
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 ford f-250. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle experienced the "death wobble" and the contact lost control of the steering wheel. the contact was able to regain control and stop the vehicle. the contact continued driving at a much slower speed. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact called newberry family motors (located at 126 e b ave, kingman, ks 67068, (620) 532-3181) and scheduled an appointment. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 76,000.
While driving with my family after we just purchased our new f250 super duty we almost hit the car next to us and went in to a ditch. i was driving on the interstate at a speed of around 65 mph and all of a sudden the entire truck was violently shaking down the road and i could not maintain the truck in my own lane almost causing a multi car accident. i did not know what to do and had to call family members to come pick up my family which was 2 hours away from our home because they were crying and scared to ride in our new truck we just purchased. i thought maybe something was loose so i looked under the truck and made sure all lug nuts were tight whle on the side of the road for about an hour. turns out after research this is a known problem!!. i want this repaired by a dealership but do not know what the next steps are as of now this is obviously unsafe and could get someone seriously injured or killed.
My ford has 14300 miles on it. driving on the highway on 12-7-19 around 55 -65mph, the vehicle started shaking violently. i could not control the steering wheel. the shaking caused passengers coffee cups to slosh out of their cups it was so violent. this occurred on us hwy 79 near hutto texas around 8 pm in the evening.
Driving down the highway at 75 mph i hit a bump in the road and the front end started wobbling uncontrollably. i had to pull off to the side of the road and slow to 30mph until it stopped wobbling.
I was driving on the interstate at 75 mph when i hit a bump in the road. the front end of my truck started to shake violently and steering was terribly impaired. i had to pull off the highway and slow to 30mph to get control of the vehicle.my ford truck has only 22,000 miles. my 2012 ford truck did the same thing at 100,000 miles.
2019 f250, approx. 13k miles. travelling straight on highway 60-65 mph and truck entered into the well known "death wobble" or rapid, rhythmic, dangerous oscillation of the front tires causing loss of steering control. had to reduce speed to 10-15 mph to regain control. this has happened 2 times within 2 consecutive times of driving on the freeway in the same week. took it into the dealer and they test drove it and confirmed "death wobble". the part (steering dampener) they automatically prescribe (tsb 19-2274) to fix this is on back order 4-6 weeks and we were told "no loaner" and bring the truck back when the part is in. we said "so, we are supposed to drive our family around in a truck that is basically new with a death wobble?" to which the service manager responded "yeah, i know, crazy isn't it?". we already know that tsb 19-2274 is a band aid and not a real solution to the problem. most who get tsb 19-2274 done are back within a few thousand miles or sooner because death wobble has returned, because the root of the problem has not been fixed. we have a video of our loose tie rod ends clunking and lifting when the steering wheel is moved left and right. we told the service manager about these loose parts - nothing was looked at or recommended to be done regarding these loose parts. we have investigated this problem extensively online and it seems to be happening in epidemic proportions in 2017-2019 models. most "victims" of this problem end up in an endless cycle of trips to the dealership with continuing dangerous death wobble until their warranty is run out. the people who seem to have real success in permanent solutions go aftermarket, rebuilding the front end suspension at their own expense on their brand new trucks. this is criminal negligence. we have a crippled $50k truck - cannot even drive it on the highway! recall needed!!!!
Death wobble- freeway driving, uncontrollable, violent shaking, unresponsive steering and brake control. ford is aware of the problem. i have had in the dealership to resolve the issue, and it was not fixed. i am in fear for my life and my family as well as other drivers on the road as the truck is uncontrollable when this happens. this happened three times on the freeway, and then another after it was taken in to be fixed.
At approximately 60mph, the front end started shaking and truck became underivable. the common term for this is 'death wobble' and it has been reported to the dealership. i've had the same issues 5-6 times over the last 3 weeks.
Going down the free way hit a bump in the road the next thing the truck was shaking violently i couldn't control it.. i had to cross a line of traffic to pull over... this truck is brand new less than 10k miles ... i can tell you i have drove 100 miles in one day and it did that after violet shaking 9 times
At just over 20k miles on this truck that i purchased new about a year ago: driving at speed around 70mph after crossing an overpass on a newer highway the front end suddenly and violently started to shake and steering was compromised. i was finally able to pull over to shoulder of this multi-lane highway and when going slow enough the problem disappeared. i checked the tires and undercarriage and found no damage and no warning lights from vehicle. tpms system showed tire inflations between 59 and 65 psi on all four tires. i resumed driving and problem happened again about 10 miles further down the road. i pulled into the next rest area and did an internet search and found that this is a very well known problem with ford superduty pickups known as the "death wobble", although other manufacturers have similar problems reported. i've since learned ford even has a tech srvc bulletin out regarding this issue (tsb 18-2668). i went to the nearest ford dealership and explained the problem. the dealer said they get 4 to 5 complaints a week like this. we talked in general terms until i mentioned i had found the reference to a death wobble. upon hearing that the dealer said they could not bring it up, but now that i had mentioned it they were free to discuss the problem. they said ford has a precise set of processes in place to deal with this problem and they must be followed in sequence. they said first step was to check tire inflation and they also said they should rotate tires. i mentioned that had been done at a different ford dealer for an oil change about 1k miles earlier. they said it didn't matter so they went ahead with those procedures. they also said the part in the tsb was on national backorder. problem re-occurred on drive home so problem was not fixed. have another appt with local ford dealer in 2 weeks, hopefully tsb parts are in by then.
Death wobble that others have described. i have 4300 highway miles on my vehicle. common issue on forum threads that i have read among super duty owners. terrifying wobble at 50 mph, almost ended up in a ditch. was able to regain control when speed was slowed to 25.
When driving over 50mph and hit a bump the death wobble occurs. sending vehicle out of control. truck has been doing it since the day we bought it.
Earlier today i experienced a loss of control at highway speeds while driving my 2019 f-250 fx-4. internet research this evening made me aware of the 'death wobble' that has been reported to your agency. the issue was resolved by quick deceleration - i actually pulled into the median and expected to see one of the wheels about to come off. i will follow up with ford but suspect that they are well aware of the problem and haven't developed a satisfactory solution.
Severe shaking and movement in the steering system causing an almost loss in control. truck has been "fixed" once already and problem persists. this has happened on multiple occasions.
My vehicle experienced three "death wobble" occurrences. all within a few hundred miles of each other. starting at around 22,000 miles.(november 2019) extreme steering wheel oscillation and uncontrollable lane shifts. these occurred after hitting a pot hole or a seam in the road. all of my occurrences were at highway speed. the only remedy is to immediately brake hard and attempt to move to the shoulder. i contacted my dealer and the truck was given a new steering stabilizer per the most current tsb. i paid to have the truck re-aligned. (alignment was out due to the "death wobble" jarring the front end so hard) 4000 miles after this service, i started to experience "bump steer", humps in the road transfer to the steering wheel excessively. the truck is also pulling hard to the right. now at 8000 miles past the service the "bump steer" is even worse. there is noticeable play in the steering wheel and you must work to keep the truck in your lane. having someone move the steering wheel while visually inspecting the steering components showed play in multiple linkages. tie rod ends and track bar heim joint both are worn out at less than 31,000 miles. unacceptable, and not safe. the steering stabilizer is a band-aide to push me out of my bumper to bumper warranty. it is on the edge of failing and sending the truck back into more "death wobble". this truck has only been serviced by ford. all recommended maintenance has been performed. including tire rotations. it is my opinion that steering components fail prematurely. the new steering stabilizer has not remedied the problem with my truck. it will be going back to the dealer for another round of service. it will need at a minimum a new track bar, tie rod ends and an alignment. ill be filing a reimbursement claim directly with ford if i am asked to pay for the alignment again this round.
A few times now my f250 has gone into a death wobble while traveling approximately 70 mph on the highway. it takes all my strength to keep the truck in control and come to almost a complete stop, for the shaking to cease. dampener was replaced once, and the same problem occurs. it is in the shop again and now waiting a week with no answer. i will not put my family in this truck as it is too unsafe and unpredictable. we all need ford to fix the problem.
Truck vibrates violently after hitting a bump at higher speeds on the highway. i have to slam on the brakes and slow down to approximately 20 mph to get the truck to stop shaking. the violent shaking only happens when truck is above 45mph. shaking comes on suddenly and feels like it veers to the left. this issue has happened 3 times in the last month.
On 11-15-2019 while on hwy i-95 south, at about 72mph , my f250 started shaking violently at the front end after going over slightly rough patch of road. the shaking was so violent that i lost control of the vehicle for a few minutes. vehicles near me had to avoid me until i was able to slow down to about 25mph. had i been on a curvature , i would have surely crashed. on 11-17-2019 , i experienced the death wobble again on at about the same speed , this time i was with a colleague on the passenger side, the shaking was very scary and worrying. this problem with the f-250 trucks is apparently not uncommon, we pulled over and did a google search , it appears that this problem is nothing new , but ford has not made consumers aware of it ,and continues to sell the vehicle with out informing the public. do people have to die first ??? please help. After putting 8,707 miles on my new 2019 f-250 super duty fx4 without incident, the front suspension has begun shaking violently when passing over highway expansion joints and/or bumps in the road surface at highway speeds. this has happened twice so far, both times while travelling between 65 to 70 mph in a straight sections of highway; once over a bump in the roadway, once over an expansion joint. the truck is impossible to control once the front suspension begins shaking violently, and only stops shaking after braking to a much lower speed. luckily, in both instances other vehicles on the road were able to avoid my truck as it drifted across lanes of traffic. in both instances, the only control i had was to brake. the service department representative at the local ford dealership told me that ford has known about the "death shake" issue in f-250 and f-350 four wheel drive trucks for several years, and i was advised to buy a 3.5 inch leveling kit, and dual steering stabilizer kits at my own expense, because the factory fix of replacing the defective ford steering dampener is not a permanent solution.
I entered ih10 east bound from johns road in boerne tx. at about the time i reached highway speed i hit a bump / pot hole on the road. after impact the truck immediately and violently started to shake and the steering wheel was shaking too. the whole truck started to shake, only stopping after slowing the truck to below 50mph. now the steering wheel is not centered and there is a constant vibration while driving. the truck feels loose while driving and wanders after hinting small bumps in the road. the truck has approx. 16,700 miles on it. purchased in april of 2019 new. f250 4x4 crew cab.
I was driving over 55 mph, i hit a bump created by the transition in the road surface from asphalt road to concrete bridge. my vehicle starting shaking violently and the steering when was going up and down, could not control truck in curve, near hit bridge retaining wall. had to hit brakes to slow down, then vehicle quit shaking and i was able to get control of the truck
The truck just turned 15,000 miles and has experienced severe death wobble and the dealership has no parts to fix my truck to make it safe to drive. it has happened at least 5 times with my wife and 3 kids in the vehicle. the truck becomes almost uncontrollable and you can barely brake or steer when the situation happens you have to try to get off the road asap and hopefully not cause an accident because the truck needs to slow down to almost a complete stop the get the uncontrollable shaking to stop.. from what i read on the internet, there is no fix and this truck is going to get me in to an accident. i have come close to hitting a center divide. this is my daily driver and the condition is getting worse. i fear that a wreck is eminent. hopefully it doesn't happen with my family in the vehicle. a fix is needed asap or ford needs to buyback these faulty vehicles.
When driving the front wheels shake when i hit bumps
When the tuck hit an average bump at highway speeds it goes into an uncontrollable shake for at least 30 second before recovering. this is very severe and happens routinely. my truck is currently at 4000 miles and this has happened 3 times.
2019 f-250 4x4 "death wobble" at 4,400 miles. i noticed on back roads at 45-55 mph front-end left acting like it was loose on steering, but i don't drive it much. took a trip and several times (10+) at 65-70 front would wobble a little when hitting small uneven pavement. one time it went into the death wobble and had to do an emergency stop into the median because it was shaking itself apart. shook so hard the water bottles were about to come out of console. i have called service center and left a message and emailed my service person and no response for 3 weeks now. i don't want to the truck until it is fixed fixed.
Death wobble
Speeds at 70 mph and truck hits rough section of pavement causes the whole front of the truck to seem like its coming apart. a few times it's caused loss of control
I was driving on the interstate at 75 mph (posted speed limit in texas), crossed onto a bridge and the entire front end began to violently shake and bounce. the steering wheel was turning back and forth. the only way i could gain control of the truck was to slow down and move over to the right shoulder and almost stop. this was almost 10 days ago on a saturday. i took it to the dealership on the following monday. coincidentially, there was another man there with a 2018 f250 with the same issue. my truck is a 2019 and has 16,600 miles on it. i've taken it to the dealership and the tech told me that ford has known about the issue for a long time. he specifically mentioned the degree of camber in the front end. they've ordered parts and he stated that he has personally repaired over a hundred trucks with this problem. he stated that he will "replace the parts and readjust the degree of camber back to where he likes it" and "that should fix the problem". tonight, nov 10, 2019, as i'm driving to work, it happened again on level ground on an entrance ramp to the interstate at approximately 50 mph. i had to slow down to approx 25 mph to get the shaking and oscillations to stop.
I was driving on the interstate approximately 70 mph and hit a small bump in the road a the steering wheel started to shake uncontrollably and the whole truck was shaking. i had to pull over and slow down befor it quit.
My vehicle is a 2019 f250 super duty powerstroke diesel crew cab short bed. i was traveling down the highway at approximately 60 miles an hour. i encountered a small bump in the road that led to a violent shaking of the front end suspension. i thought perhaps a lug nut broke off allowing one of the wheels to wobble. i took my foot off the excelerator and lightly tapped my brakes in an effort to slow the vehicle down and pull off to the side of the road. i traveled approximately 100 yards before the violent shaking stopped and i was able to pull off to the side of the road inspect my tires. to my surprise the tires we're not missing any lugnuts and they seemed tight, i crawled underneath to see if anything had broken to my surprise nothing was broken. this happened once before for a much shorter distance and i brought it to ford immediately. they stated nothing was found wrong with the vehicle. i will be bring this vehicle back to ford and they better have a better answer thus time!!!
Death wobble caused me to run off the road twice, slam on my brakes and cause other vehicles to swerve around me multiple times. ford says part to fix is on backorder.
I hit a bumpy but normal patch on i-40 at about 65 mph. the truck started shaking violently and it felt as though a wheel was coming off. i lost control of the vehicle as it was extremely hard to steer. i thought i was entering a severe accident and was fearful for my life and that of my two daughters. i braked hard while surrounded by other vehicles and was able to pull over to the shoulder without a collision. i inspected the truck and did not see anything wrong. had this happened in a slightly different circumstance such as navigating a turn on the highway it would have caused a wreck. i have looked online and it appears that this is happening a lot with these vehicles and nothing is being done about it!!! i guess people's lives just aren't worth fixing an expensive problem. help us
I have experienced the death wobble 3 times in a week. front end violently shaking at 65 mph and had to slam on my brakes on the interstate almost caused a wreck.
While driving at 65 mph on the interstate, i drove over an expansion joint connected to an overpass. suddenly my front tires started oscillating violently and i lost control of the vehicle. i was able to immediately apply the breaks and regained control after slowing to below 30mph and veering into the lane to my left. luckily, there was not another vehicle in that position. the vehicle has just under 15k miles on it. i use it as a commuter to work via mostly highway roads. i currently feel very unsafe driving it above 60mph and so i'm unable to drive it to work until this situation is remedied.
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 ford f-250. while driving 80 mph, the vehicle experienced the "death wobble", which caused the contact to lose control of the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact spoke with matthews ford (1101 w sw expy dr, broken arrow, ok 74012, (918) 251-3673) and was informed that they were familiar with the failure. the dealer stated that they would install a stabilizer bar to correct the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 11,000. the vin was unknown.
Had 5 incidents occur with "death wobble". started at approximately 8500 miles at 65 mph. had to slow vehicle to 55-60 mph to stop shaking. had shaking occur at 65, 70, 75 and 80 mph. hitting slight pavement bumps on roads/freeways and pavement to bridge transitions. recorded one incident on video with passenger. took vehicle in and steering damper was replaced with rancho brand due to back order of parts.seems to only resolved issue temporary as the shaking is coming back again. wife refuses to drive the truck now, had to invest in another safer vehicle due to this f250. happened once with a trailer attached and nearly caused us to get rear ended by a semi on the freeway.
While operating vehicle under normal conditions, between 25 and 65 mph, the steering wheel will jerk and shake violently when crossing uneven pavement surfaces, such as expansion joints for bridges or overpasses, or potholes. the problem is noticeable on highways and side streets, and both straight and curved sections of road. on multiple occasions the only way to stop the shaking was to slow down below 20 mph, or come to a complete stop.
Experiencing death wobble at 65mph, excessive vibrating and shocks. vehicle wants to bump of the road if not being steered with two hands. it is getting worse with every trip
Truck front end shakes violently when hitting an irregular road surface or expansion joint driving at highway speeds - the only remedy is to abruptly brake to speeds around 20 mph to stop the "wobble" and resume driving - this presents a highly dangerous condition due to having to brake so abruptly and potentially cause a rear end collision for other cars.
Experienced violent steering oscillation while traveling straight at 75 mph while crossing a control joint at a highway overpass. the vehicle felt like it was going to shake to pieces and shook until it came to a complete stop. i had no control of the vehicles steering, only braking. i took it to the dealer and they replace the steering stabilizer. the vehicle is already exhibiting wobble after only a few thousand miles since the stabilizer was replaced. i am concerned that the steering and suspension components are not designed correctly or loose.
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 ford f-250. while driving approximately 70 mph over a bump in the road, the rear of the vehicle started to wobble uncontrollably. the contact slowed down, pulled off the road, and the wobbling stopped. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the dealer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 11,000.
General driving at freeway speeds drove over highway overpass that had a slight bump. after vehicle suspension reacted to the bump, it went into a violent steering wheel shake that would not stop until the truck was pulled to the side of the road and stopped. violent shake also happens when applying the brakes from higher speeds to a stop at random times. the recent occurrence happened while ramping onto a highway and applying brakes to negotiate a curve. truck was checked by dealership recently and stabilizer was replaced but shake still exists at times, however a violent episode has not occurred yet again
I was driving on the hwy at about 70mph. truck transitioned from road to new road construction and truck immediately started experiencing tire wobble in both front wheels with steering wheel violently shaking and spinning left to right and vice versa. this happened right about 20000 miles on a 2019 ford f-250 fx4. and since that initial incident it's been happening daily for almost 2 weeks. finally at the dealership for repair steering damper? i hope that cures the problem. it wanted to report problem. very dangerous situation and should be a recall and use a heavy duty stabilizer.
Death wobble driving down the highway hits a bum and the steering wheel shakes out of your hands making it unsafe to drive, no control. having to come to a stop when it quits.
The truck has the "death wobble". driving 55 or above is dangerous if you hit a bump, the truck starts to violently shake and must be brought to a complete stop in order to regain control. i've owned the truck for less than 45 days and tomorrow will be the second time it's been to the dealership for this issue.
We were driving down the highway doing roughly 70-75 mph and hit a small bump in the road (almost like a double groove in the pavement). immediately after we hit the bump, the entire truck began to shake violently almost to the point that it felt as if it was "floating" on the road. the first time it happened we thought we had blown a tire, so we reduced our speed and moved to the shoulder of the road. as it turns out, we had not; we checked the vehicle to see if any of the sensors indicated that anything was wrong. it appeared as if everything was okay so we went back to driving to work. the next day, the very same thing occurred and again, we pulled over. this time, we didn't get out to check the tires but we did run through our sensors but again, everything appeared fine. so, we slowly returned to driving. as soon as we got to work we immediately called the dealership and had them pick the truck up within the next couple of hours. as of right now, the truck is at the dealership. with what little research we have done, it appears that our truck has what is being called the "death wobble".
