On average, the 2018 Ford F-250 starts to “feel” problems with the STEERING and its various aspects after 30 753 miles.

Recently reported STEERING problems on 2018 Ford F-250

On 2 occasions driving at approximately 75 mph - after hitting a minor rough patch in the road the truck / steering / front end began violently vibrate. i thought the truck was coming apart. after stopping on the side of the interstate and expecting the vehicle i couldn't find anything wrong. i thought after the first occurrence that it must have been a fluke. after the second time i realized that something must be wrong so i started some research on the internet. i discovered hundreds / thousands of people complaining of the same thing . . . "death wobble." i testify this is a very real problem and these trucks are dangerous.

I just crossed over 15,500 miles and experienced the death wobble when going over a bridge. will call dealer monday. this needs to be a mandatory recall as the steering wheel is literally jerked out of my hand. i was going approximately 50 mph.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ford f-250. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle drove over a pothole and vehicle became uncontrollable. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced the phenomenon known as the death wobble. the contact was able to regain control at 30 mph. there were no warning lights illuminated. the local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the failure mileage was 28,204.

Experienced a severe case of "death wobble" on i-95 after hitting a very slightly rough area of pavement. travelling at approximately 65 mph when it happened, had to slow to 35 to get it to stop and feared losing control while trying to control it. the truck has original wheels and tires and has not been modified in any way. tire pressure is 63 psi all around.

Whenever i drive at a high rate of speed (65mph+) and a slight bump or a bridge joint connection, it sends the truck into an uncontrollable shaking of the steering wheel causing loss of control. i bought this truck 3 days ago and am already experiencing the 'death wobble' problem. i am genuinely concerned for the safety of myself, family, and other motorists on the road.

Travling 60 mph .hit bump on a cruve ,steering wheel started shaking ,needed both hands on steering wheel to control truck .both feet on brake pedel .truck controled at 30 mph ! truck did not want to slow down

While driving at interstate speeds the front end started to shake violently and without any reason. the vehicle was hard to control and was forced to slow down rapidly to regain control. this was the first time i had ever heard of "death wobble" this was a scary event considering i had no idea this could ever happen

The truck had the death wobble when i hit a rough patch on the highway and i had to slam on my brakes to get it to stop. luckily there were no vehicles right behind me or they would of hit me. this happened at a large bridge over a river. i had a ford dealership get the truck and try to repair it using tsb # 18-2268. i received the truck afterwards and drove it on the highway again and it started to shutter at highway speeds when i hit a bump again. this would last miles before it would stop. i brought it back to the dealer and they found a loose tie rod. they are 'fixing' this and i will see if this corrects it. this all happened within 2 weeks.

At approx. 65 mph, after hitting a small rough spot on the dry paved highway, the truck began vibrating excessively in the front end. i was driving straight and level in a place where i've routinely travelled for several months. i had to immediately apply the brakes to decelerate and stop the shimmy. fortunately traffic was mild at the time and nothing else happened. it happened at approx 24000 miles on the odometer and has reoccurred five times in the last two weeks in different locations at highway speeds. i have scheduled a service appt with the local ford dealer to try and figure out what's wrong. the service agent at the dealer referred to it as the 'death wobble'!

Traveling at highway speed and hit a pot hole in the roadway. experience the death wobble. vehicle began violently shaking and had to slow vehicle speed to under 50 mph to regain control of the vehicle. 1st time was on i 70 traveling at approximately 75 mph and the second was on highway 25 in kansas traveling at approximately 68 mph.

Multiple episodes of severe front end shaking and instability that occurs at highway speeds when driving over minimal bumps or other road imperfections. recently this caused a loss of control when it occurred on a freeway not known to have ice spots at 50 mph. the only way i have been able to disrupt this is to quickly reduce speed to below 40 mph which is also dangerous on the freeway.

2018 ford f-250 shakes uncontrollably after hitting bumps in the road at approx 70mph. i could not control the steering of the truck until i got it slowed down to approximately 35mph. this has happened 15 times and i've had it in the shop 2 times for repair. without the problem being resolved. i've seen complaint after complaint on this issue, someone is going to get killed or kill someone else i. the road it is unacceptable and for needs to address the issue.

60 to 70 mph, hit bump and strong wobble vibration impacting steering. have to slow down for it to stop. this is known as death wobble (tsb 18-2268) from what i can determine from internet. truck has about 27,000 miles. appt to take to dealership feb 4 2020. wish ford would have notified owners of this potential safety issue as it appears they already knew about it. instead they wait for owners to report issue before fixing. potential for accidents especially when people that have these type trucks usually pull trailers or campers as do i. not sure what would have happened if i was pulling my 5th wheel when the two incidents happened. one was at about 70 mph and the other 60 to 65 entrance ramp to highway on one and expansion joint bump on bridge the other time. both times felt like tire was loose and about to fall off. visual inspection on side of road found nothing abnormal.

Truck has a death wobble ... steering wheel shakes to the point of being uncontrollable. happens when hitting a bump or ruff spot in road, train tracks, bumps on bridges. can see where losing control would be very easy . god help if you had a loaded trailer hooked to it...

I have 2018 f-250 and at 19800 it developed this death wobble and has occurred 3x out of nowhere. very scary ford acts like it's no big deal. this happened on the interstate going around 59 - 70 and the death wobble started.

At speeds of 65mph and above, when hitting bumps in the road the vehicle begins to shake uncontrollably until you slow down to around 25mph or even stop completely. when this is happening, the steering wheel shakes so much that it is hard to hold on and bring the vehicle to a stop. it is very dangerous when traveling on an interstate and this begins to happen, as you are required to reduce your speed significantly which could absolutely cause a wreck as your trying to make it over to the shoulder safely. this has happened multiple times and is a complete surprise as to when it is going to happen. i now know what it is like to have the death wobble in the front end as i truly fear for my life when it happens. i have not been able to get video of the death wobble occurring, as i haven't had a second person with me when it has happened. even when traveling at lower speeds (35mph-55mph) and going across bumps in the road, i still experience a wobble in the steering wheel however it does not go into the death wobble scenario where the whole truck begins to shake. i am however fearful that someday it will begin to start the death wobble at these lower speeds.

Driving straight on highway 95 in arizona, at 70 with cruise control set. clear day, no adverse weather or road conditions. tires equally pressurized at factory settings of 59 front and 55 rear and a completely stock suspension and tire package. out of nowhere, steering wheel begins to shake violently and the truck is swerving from one lane to the other. i had to slow to nearly 30 to regain control of the vehicle. this would have caused a head on collision under the right circumstances. 2018 f-250 with less than 30k miles.

After hitting a rough spot in the highway. truck starts to shake uncontrollably. have to pull over and almost stop to make it stop wobbling. very dangerous problem.

At highway speeds experienced violent shaking in front end steering.it happens when truck crosses a rough road or when crossing bridge at 65 plus mph.it is uncontrollable until speed is reduced to less than 20 mph.

When hitting any small bump or expansion joint in the road when traveling over 60 mph on any roadway the vehicle begins shaking violently and is uncontrollable until rapid deceleration below 40 mph. the problem has occurred over a dozen times in the first 20,000 miles of the vehicles life. it has been in the shop 3 times and is currently scheduled for a 4th service call, however ford claims no parts are available and no time line has been given for their availability. the truck is currently sitting due to concerns of life threatening safety. this appears to be a long standing problem and i can not fathom why there hasn't been a safety recall on this.

I was accelerating on an on-ramp and at about 60mph on slightly rough pavement the truck front suspension and steering started oscillating and became very violent. i was merging in traffic but was forced to slow down quickly to keep the truck under control. the oscillations calmed at around 40mph. fortunately the other vehicles managed to avoid me. could have been an accident. on the way home after merging onto i81, i went over a bump on a bridge and the oscillations started again. traffic was light so i could slow down quickly. at about 45mph the oscillations stopped. i drove home slowly and parked the truck as it is not safe to drive at normal speeds. the vehicle only has 26k miles, has regular dealership service, properly inflated tires and this just came out of nowhere.

The truck had dampers replaced at 43,000 miles to cure the front end violently shaking. it seemed to cure it for about 15,000 miles. now when you hit a bump the front end shakes very violently causing me to almost lose control of the truck. this happened on the interstate. you have to apply the breaks and slow the truck down to at least 40 mph to get it to stop shaking. the last time it happened at 64 mph with proper air pressure. it has been called the death wobble by other f 250 owners. it happened after you hit a bump in the road. ford is aware of this problem but doesn't appear to be too concerned about it.

While driving down the interstate, around 73 mph, the toad had a bump where it went to road construction. as soon as we hit the bump, the truck started shaking uncontrollably. couldn't steer, or do anything. kids in the back screaming, my husband holding the wheel as tight as possible trying to keep from killing us, once decelerating, we finally gained control, but only after swerving through 2 lanes of traffic, where we were very lucky there wasn't any traffic directly beside or behind us. this happened last week when going over a railroad crossing, but not to this extent. the steering damper has already been replaced. the truck has 51k miles on it!

I was driving on the freeway pulling my 23 foot enclosed snowmobile trailer with two snowmobiles inside. i hit a bump in the road and my steering wheel started to shake very violently. i was traveling 70 mph when this happened. my truck continued to shake violently causing me to swerve on the freeway until i slowed down to 50 mph. this was not the first time it has happened. i have experienced this violent shaking when pulling a trailer or not pulling a trailer down the freeway. my truck has under 47,000 miles on it.

At speeds from 60 to 75 mph if the truck hits any kinda rough road or bumps it will start shaking violently (death wobble) almost getting me into a serious accident on 3 different occasions and my wife once. the latest incident being this morning 12/12/2019, after i just picked it up from the dealership (blake utter ford) supposedly repaired. it has been reported to the dealership blake utter ford in denison texas. i have had this truck there 3 times for repair and it is still not fixed. i will be taking it back this morning. please help with this issue

Uncontrolled severe vibration and violent shaking of entire vehicle. seems to be initiated by uneven spots in pavement at speeds above 40-50 mph or so. otherwise known as the "super duty wobble", a well known and documented issue since the introduction of the super duty line of ford pickup trucks in approximately 1998 or 1999. i have previously owned 1999 and 2006 f-350 super duty pickup trucks which experienced the same problems. i have the repair receipts and nhtsa safety notices for both vehicles. i find it astonishing and extremely disappointing that in over 20 years ford has not been able to successfully diagnosis and rectify this problem. i am currently awaiting a service appointment (pending parts arrival) to correct this. i obviously hope ford will fix this, but am quite skeptical. my current vehicle (2018 f250) had only 25,000 miles on it when this problem started occuring. i would appreciate your response on this. i find it unacceptable that ford has continued to sweep this under the rug, and am surprised that there has not been some type of recall on this considering it has been a known issue for over 20 years. the violent shaking and vibration is so bad that it could lead to loss of control of the vehicle with catastrophic results possible. thank-you for your consideration of this.

When driving down the road mainly at highway speeds once in a while when i hit a bump in the road the truck will begin to shake violently and cause me to almost lose control. i have to fight the wheel and pull off the road and come to a stop to get the shaking to stop. this has happened to me twice now.

It called the death wobble. while driving home from iowa on december 3rd. i hit a bump in the road doing 70 mph. the wheels and steering started vibrating so bad it became uncontrollable. i hit the brakes and pulled off the side of the interstate. while pulled over a semi truck hit the rear of my camper totalling it. i was able to drive back to missouri with camper. the death wobble happened twice. after the second i dropped the speed to 60 and did not experience the rest of the way home. the death wobble is well documented and its a shame the government is not doing anything because the auto industry is a powerful institution.

Purchased vehicle in 06/2018. contacted spike's ford around 11/25/2019. advised service department that vehicle would go into a death wobble every time it hit a bump as i was driving on the highway. the truck would shake and bounce uncontrollably. it could only be stopped by braking to bring down the speed. this could cause a injury or death to myself or others on the road. there are defects in the steering damper. they finally called me on 01/27/2020 to have it repaired because they did not have the part in stock, and were backlogged with service for the same reason on other customers.

While traveling on i-74 at 70mph we hit a road expansion joint (slight bump) on a bridge and the truck began to shake and wobble to the point i almost lost control and hit the bridge railing, i hit my brakes to try and control the vehicle when i was almost hit by a semi truck. i pulled off the interstate and stopped. i could find nothing wrong and continued on and again when i was doing 65mph i almost lost control of the truck when we hit another expansion. it shook so bad it almost pulled the steering wheel out of my hands. i got off to the side again almost causing a traffic crash. i fully stopped and then slowly drove off of the interstate and drove home on a secondary road and it was fine until i was on indiana 63 / us 41 i got the truck to 60 mph and it again shook violently when we hit a slight bump of an expansion joint. i am taking it to the shop tomorrow morning. i never knew this was a problem u til i looked this up on google. how can ford continue to sell these trucks with a know safety defect and nhtsa does nothing to warn us.

When driving at speeds between 45 and 65 the steering wheel will start shaking side to side violently. i have had the truck for about a month and it has happened 4 times. it shakes so bad you almost lose control. the only way to get it to stop is to slow way down, to approximately 15 mph or stop completely. this is pretty convenient when your on the interstate. ford needs to offer a repair before someone dies!

When driving at speeds of more than about 30 mph, and hit a bump, the trucks steering starts to shake violently. it is very difficult to maintain your lane when this is happening. in addition the brakes have to be applied rather rapidly to stop the wheels from shaking. the truck has 22,000 miles on it with no modifications.

Experience death wobble in front end at 34,000 anytime while driving on a rough road.

1st incident 2/10/2019, when the vehicle hit a bump in road the truck steering would shake and cause vehicle to bounce to the right uncontrollable, vehicle in shop 2/12/19 to replace steering strut. vehicle mileage 10,699 on 11/15/2019 a trip from md to ky, travel approximately 72 mph and about 5 hours in trip, the vehicle hit a small bump in road on highway 79, the vehicle front began to shake violently and pull the truck to the right uncontrollable. i manage to maintain control and slow vehicle down at approximately 10 mph on the should the shaking stopped. contact dealer the same day and have an appointment on 12/2/19 to review. the vehicle steering shake when driving at speeds about 40 mph and will began shaking again when hitting a bump in road. vehicle mileage is 25210.

At 12pm 11/14/2019, my truck began to shake violently at 70 mph after hitting a bump at a bridge junction. scared me badly and i immediately decelerated and the violent shaking stopped at about 40 mph. i didn't know if i blew a tire, hit something, the engine was about to fall out of the truck or what! i did some research online and found that my truck had what is known as the "death wobble". today the exact same death wobble issue occurred at the exact same place in the road. i have a call in to the dealership to determine how this can be repaired. my truck is only at 39k miles and was purchased brand new in jan 2018.

I'm am reporting the famous death wobble. when i talked to my for rep he said it was a known problem but ford has not done anything to fix it. this happened at 55 mph and was so extreme i thought my vehicle's wheels were going to fall off. fortunately i was able to get off the road safely but this is a huge problem that is all i've got forums. please help ford fix this problem.

This truck had death wobble at 17k miles, ford replaced the steering stabilizer, wobble is back at 40k miles and we have to buy another stabilizer out of pocket. this is one of several 17-19 f250s we own that has had death wobble. ford needs to step up with the recall.

This submission is the second notice of "death wobble' on my 2018 ford f-250 truck. the truck had less then 14,000 miles on it. it occurred on november 9, 2019. i was merging into traffic on an interstate highway at about 65-70 mph and crossed a bridge joint which caused the front wheels and steering wheel to shake violently. i slowed the vehicle and was almost rear-ended by a 18 wheel semi-truck that couldn't maneuver as it was being passed by a second truck on one side and another merging car on the other. i knew what the had caused the issue as this was the second occurrence in one year. i contacted the ford dealership on november 11th, 2019. they indicated they are aware of the dampener problem. i had them inspect the truck on november 16th at which time they ordered the parts to repair it. the same wobble occurred on november 15th while my wife was driving on a ramp from one expressway to another moving at approximately 55 mph. i returned to the dealership on 11/29/19 and they still didn't have the part. two weeks later they notified me that they had the part. it was repaired on 12/16/19. they replaced the steering damper assembly, part no. spo hc3z 3e651 f. they indicated the dampener is part of tsb 19-2274 and due to large number of vehicles with the same issue, the part is hard to obtain. my wife is now leery about driving the vehicle.

Truck develops serious wobble in the front end/steering and only way to correct is to slow down 15 mph or more. this has happened on 3 occasions and i took it to the local dealer and they said the steering damper was bad and replaced it. it has happened twice since that time. the vehicle is in stock condition, save for the replacement steering damper (which i assume is oem since it was done at the ford dealership) and still has the original original tires.

I hit a rough patch of road at 55 mph on a 2 lane and the steering wheel was jerked out of my hands and the truck violently started shaking and bouncing veering into oncoming traffic pulling left towards a semi. i hit the brakes and turned the wheel to the right as hard as i could only turning right slightly enough to miss the truck. i pulled over and inspected the wheels and everything looked fine. i drove away cautiously and you couldn't tell anything ever happened. called dealer he said oh yea death wobble. nice to know they already know about it. an older or weaker person would be dead along with on coming driver/passengers. scared to drive my $70k truck!!

When you hit a bump at highway speeds the front of the truck stats shaking like crazy and you have to slow down to stop it from happening. very dangerous and was lucky ot to have been i an accident.

While driving on the interstate running 68 mph i crossed a straight bridge and encountered a severe vibration/loss of control coming from my front suspension. after hitting a slight bump at the beginning of the bridge the vibration was so severe and would not stop until i slowed the truck to 20mph. i was forced to use both lanes to slow the truck down without wrecking. this seems to be a common condition that some people refer to as the 'death wobble'. vehicle has 30k miles and was purchased new by me and has never been wrecked. suspension and tires are 100% stock.

While traveling around 45 to 50 mph on a two lane road going around a slight curve to the left the truck hit a rough patch in the road and the front wheels started oscillating up and down causing me to lose any control of the steering wheel. i could barely hold on to the steering wheel because it was shaking so violently until i had slowed almost to a stop. i then pulled off the road and examined the front end of the truck and did not find anything out of the ordinary nothing was broke or lose that i could find. the incident was very unnerving and i now am very apprehensive and do not trust this vehicle.

Moving on i-25 near fort carson, co on nov 3rd at approximately 70mph. experienced violent shaking in steering wheel severally effecting control of truck. was able to slow, and check vehicle for suspected flat tire. found no issues, proceeded with caution back up to highway speed, experienced it again. proceeded to home at 50mph, have not driven it on highway since. ford dealership says i need a new steering stabilizer, after six weeks i'm still waiting for part to come in. as i research more, it appears the problem may require more parts - afraid it will happen again! ford doesn't seem too concerned or motivated to fix my problem.

A residual vibration after hitting a bump started in feb 2019 at 8.6k miles. dealership replaced damper assembly. all good for a while then vibration with hitting a bump started again in oct 2019 at 25k miles. on 11/2/19 at 26k miles at 70 mph experienced severe/violent shaking in the steering wheel and had to slam on brakes to stop it and bring truck under control. the ford dealership replaced the damper assembly again and the stabilizer bar. still had the residual vibration after a bump, took back in to dealership on 12/4/19 and they could not 'duplicate customer concern'. on 12/11/19 and 12/16/19 at highway speeds on i-87 between albany and glens falls, ny, i again experienced severe and violet vibration/shaking in the steering wheel. i had a difficult time keeping the truck in the lane i was traveling in and again had to immediately brake hard in heavy traffic to bring the truck back under control. brought to a different dealership and now being told that despite 1/2 the tread life remaining on the tires that ford is recommending replacing the tires and that an alignment is needed. this dealership is refusing to do alignment unless we replace all 4 tires. at this time the truck has 27k miles on it. i cannot understand how ford can continue to deny this is a major safety issue with their trucks with all of evidence supporting otherwise.

Truck has 16,000 miles on it. purchased new from dealer. within 1,000 miles experienced random front end shake, was occasional on rough road. recently it occurred in one weekend 6 times. all on different interstate roads between pennsylvania and new jersey. shook so hard and violently both fog lights cracked on the truck including one of the fog light mounts. happens on any road. happens any speed above 45mph. concrete roads are the worst and bridge joints. truck now looses grip when driving over bumps. feels like on ice. ciocca ford will not warranty broken parts such as fog lights and one mount. they will not correct alignment issue due to steering stability issue aka death wobble. truck now pulls to the right. truck does not feel safe to drive with my children in it, especially in the snow season knowing any bump could set it off. i have tried all different air pressures still get death wobble. still breaks truck traction on bumps. this wobble occurs even on secondary roads. the wobble causes steering wheel to shake back and forth 3-4 inches. the entire front of the truck vibrates and shakes. the wobble won't stop until speed is dropped below 35mph. this shake will cause loss of steering and control in any weather condition. when it occurs you have all you can do to hold the steering wheel, there is no turning ability when this occurs. the steering stabilizer is often quoted as the issue for this. i believe from my experience and research the shocks are also not adequate from the loss of traction steering. steering linkage is also weak. ford has a reengineered solution, however unknown availability. this truck is now a safety hazard to myself and others, and ciocca ford is not offering a solution for the safety concern.

Ford f250 lariat 2018 has death wobble at highway speeds between 50 and 80 mph very unsafe scares the bjesus out of me n my family bought it to pull a trailer behind it . donot want do do that in fear of someone getting severly injuried or worse!! its been to ford dealership they want to put a bandage on it for $800.00 with no guarantee to fix the problem!! they taught their employees well deny deny deny. what a waste of 48,000 dollars (shame on ford ) bought on november 2 2019

On 7 occasions my 2018 f250 has had severe death wobble. as low as 40mph up to 75 mph it has only 32000 miles when this first occurred it has been to the ford dealer 4x for this issue and they have done their so called repairs and it still does it

While driving at 65 mph i encountered a pot-hole and my steering wheel begin to shake violently! i was unable to steer the truck and crossed three lanes before i could get stopped. fortunately i did not hit another vehicle or the barrier in the median. i reported the issue to west point ford, in west point va, and took the truck to them. they returned the truck to me a few days later claiming that they could not find anything wrong. i had a second incident when i struck a patch of asphalt used to repair a pothole, and again the steering wheel started to shake uncontrollably and i was forced to stop in the middle of the road. i returned the truck to west point ford where it stayed for over a week. they claimed to have made a repair to the steering dampener and told me that the problem was fixed. i had a third incident yesterday evening. i will be returning the truck to a ford dealer once again.

Hit very small bump on the highway and went into an extremely violent shaking and off-balance feeling pulled over to the side of the road that i had a flat tire went down the road and it happened again both instances happened at speeds between 55 and 70 mph
