Problems with 2017 Ford F-250 STEERING

On average, the 2017 Ford F-250 starts to “feel” problems with the STEERING and its various aspects after 28 895 miles.

Recently reported STEERING problems on 2017 Ford F-250

Truck has a "death wobble" at speeds above 56 mph.

Death wobble. was traveling on the freeway at 70mph when i passed over a bridge and the truck started to violently shake the front end. i had to slow to 30pmh to regain control after uncontrollably being forced into another lane and almost causing an accident. this is the second time that this has happened to this truck and the first time after ford attempted to fix the issues by replacing parts. i have video of both events and ford will not fix the issue stating there is nothing wrong.

While driving at appx. 70-75 mph after hitting a rough patch or bumps on the road the truck began to shake vigorously, i had to slow to 35-40 mph to get it to stop. i have just had the tires balance, rotated, and inflated to the specs. i was just in the dearlship on friday 02/15/19 and mentioned it to them they said they would look at it and would be $120 diagnostic fee never got an answer back. this morning alone i had experienced it 3 times in the 40 miles i drive to work. this is a huge safety issue and to experience it that many times in a 40 mile drive to work is not ok. luckily my kids and wife weren't in the truck they would have never rode in it again. i have 41k miles on my tuck and this isn't the first time it has happened. before taking the tries to be balanced and rotated fixed the issue so it seamed but right after laving the tire shop it happened. i will be taking the truck back to ford again for them to tell me there is nothing wrong. what is the fix for this? it seams to a common problem is ford doing anything to help its customers? now after this run of sudden shakes my sun roof will not open seams to be jammed or off track from the violent shaking not sure what else is broken or no longer works after this.

Death wobble in steering wheel. this going to kill somebody ! extreme steering wheel wobble when going over a small bump bump at 60 mph or more. totally loose control of steering function. took to dealer and replaced some parts at 18,000 miles and now experienced it again at 22,000 miles. many people with similar vehicles 2017 ford f250 have complained about this dangerous issue please do something with ford motor co. !

2017 f250 with 35k. first time hauling my 3 horse bumper pull trailer. went over the bump onto an overpass on the interstate going 70 and the whole truck started shaking violently. the seats and steering wheel were shaking. it was terrifying. i slowed to 55 and it stopped. it did it to me twice yesterday with sophie in the car. i googled 2017 f250 shaking. it's a death wobble. and lots of people are having the issue.

The "death wobble" happened to me when i got my speed up to 55mph on a state highway, the front of the truck started to shake violently and uncontrollably, i had to slow down to about 30 before regaining control. this is a huge safety issue that ford has to address!!

At approximately 40,000 miles this vehicle began exhibiting symptoms of "death wobble". at speeds above approximately 45mph, when the vehicle would strike a pothole or some other deviation in the road surface, it would begin shaking. the shaking would intensify until the vehicle would be slowed down to approximately 30mph. because the vehicle was out of warranty the vehicle was taken to a trusted local mechanic february 14, 2019. this mechanic found that the steering dampener was so wore out that when put in his vise he could slide the ram up and down with no resistance. the death wobble was temporarily fixed after replacing the steering dampener. it began again approximately 2 months later. on september 17, 2019 the truck was taken to the dealer where it was purchased new, mark moats ford in defiance, oh. at this time the steering dampener was replaced a second time. it was told to me that this dampener was an upgraded component that would solve the death wobble issue. within a short time, the vehicle began once again with a death wobble. this time it was taken to a third mechanic. this mechanic found a service bulletin that was meant to fix the death wobble. that service bulletin # is 18-2268: 4wd sustained steering wheel oscillation above 45 mph, veh built on or before 7/31/18). it should be noted that the dealership service department at mark moats ford never informed me of this service bulletin when the truck was there in september of 2019. on november 16, 2019 the death wobble occurred again. this is an extremely dangerous situation. when it occurs the truck can shake so violently that i've had problems controlling the vehicle and in one instance i could not see the road for several seconds because of the violence of the shaking. quickly slowing at high speeds on busy roads to stop the death wobble is also highly dangerous

Death wobble continues to plague my 2017 ford f-250 even after the dealership replaced steering components that were showing wear. it does not feel safe and i fear hitting any kind of bump in the road. even the slightest bump like a joint in the road will cause an unexpected violent shaking until i slow down to 30-40 mph. safety is at risk when the death wobble is set off. i hope a recall would hold ford to a higher standard when it comes to engineering steering and suspension parts. there is no reason to have to worry for your safety when driving a well-maintained vehicle in nearly new condition.

Experienced catastrophic steering wheel oscillation (death wobble) at 70mph in heavy freeway traffic after going over expansion joint on bridge overpass. complete loss of control endangering my family in this truck. slammed on the brakes to regain control causing semi trucks and all other traffic around me to take evasive action !

At approximately 65 to 70 mph and upon hitting a bump/expansion joint/pothole in the road, the truck will enter into a non-dampening castor oscillation (i.e. death wobble). when this occurs it can be very difficult to control and the driver must slow down to approximately 40 - 45 mph to get the wobble to stop. this can be extremely dangerous when towing a large/heavy trailer.

When i hit a bump or expansion joint over 45 mph my 2017 ford f250 goes into a death wobble. i have had it to the dealer 3 times now. i know ford has issued a tsb #18-2268 with replacement parts to try to fix the problem. on my 3rd trip to the dealer they replaced the parts included in the tsb except for a new steering stabilizer. i was told they are on backorder and they needed to try these other steps first. after driving home from the dealer today i still experience vibration in the steering wheel. didnt go into the death wobble today but suspect it will happen again with the vibration still there.

While driving on the highway between speeds of 55-70 mph when you hit a bump or uneven terrain the whole front end of the truck including the steering column will shake violently until you brake and bring the speed below 40 mph. this is not safe and could cause a major accident

My ford f-250 experienced a severe "death wobble" on 3 occasions causing the need to slow down from 65 mph to 25 mph on the freeway during normal traffic. on one occasion, the shaking was so bad it went to the adjacent driving lane while on an on-ramp and was completely uncontrollable. the vehicle is at the ford dealership now and having the steering shock replaced but the service rep stated they are just trying this as a solution but do not know the root cause. they are also requesting that i pay for an alignment as another possible solution. the truck has roughly 20k miles on it and is completely stock (less a camper shell). i do not feel safe putting my 2 year old, 7 year old, or wife in a very expensive vehicle while having to worry if the truck will cause a wreck due to a factory defect.

There is a nationwide problem with the ford super duty trucks it's been in the dealer theee times to correct death wobble which is extreamly dangerous and ford is giving the american public the run around and putting the public in danger , when somebody gets killed because of this it's going to be known that the problem was well documented and known and happening all over the country people are posting it on all social media's how is the government not stepping in on this?

2017 ford f 250 diesel 19,000 miles, february 6, 2019 on highway 70 @ approx. 60-65 mph(tire pressure 55#) i hit a bridge expansion joint, the front wheel went into a uncontrollable wooble, finally slowed sufficient to get it under control. initially at 17,000 miles, i had noticed a slight wobble when going over certain bumps and expansion joints. took it to the dealer, they tested it and set the tire pressure lower, until this incident it was better. will be going in for oil change and bring this to dealers attention,

Driving south on i-95 just north of portland,me. traveling with no load at 70 mph on dry pavement. came across a bridge expansion joint which ran slightly diagonal to the direction of travel. the truck went into a violent death wobble. the entire vehicle was shuddering. i had all i could do to keep two hands on the wheel. the steering wheel was shaking left to right at a high oscillation. i had limited control of the vehicle and let of the accelerator and drifted toward the breakdown lane. at approximately 25 mph the oscillation stopped. shortly thereafter the condition repeated. when i got home i went on line and discovered that this is a common problem. i have just over 50k miles on the truck. the dealer recommended that i replace the tires as they may be getting worn. i did follow that instruction although the tires still met the wear limits. i was also informed that ford has issued a tsb # 18-2268 which i am going to have executed next week which looks into this problem and makes minor adjustment to the front end alignment. all that said, the problem is far greater than some tire wear and alignment adjustments. no vehicle shouls shake and ocillate you off of the road in a violent oscillation where the driver loses their ability to control the vehicle. ford has a far more serious design issue with these trucks. as they do not acknowlege the problem and offer a true fix (at their cost) the owner of these vehicles is playing a game of russian roulette until the vehicle goes back into the violent oscillation. after reading many on-line posts, this appears to be happening at all different mileage levels. ford needs to be investigated for this problem. the customer and their family should not be endangered for a defective front suspension

Typical highway driving over minor abnormalities in roadway at speeds over 50 mph can cause the steering to shake violently and will continue unless/until you brake nearly to a stop. this happens without warning and has nearly caused several collisions by me personally. there is no steering control until you have brought the vehicle to a stop. this condition is commonly known as a death wobble. ford has a tsb on it but they are simply replacing defective parts to get past the warranty period and not solving the true cause of the problem. if not cured properly, lives will be lost because of this known flawed design. please don't let this kill anyone (else?)!!!

Suspension oscillation when hitting rough pavement or bridge transition at 65 miles an hour. violent shaking of steering wheel and tires bouncing (aka death wobble). truck has 28,412 miles at the time this occurred. unable to safely drive on the interstate. this issue is a safety problem that ford needs to address. multiple 17' 18' super duty's having this issue.

'death wobble' steering when a road bump encountered. front sreering damper has been replaced twice (2 times) previously, but the almost uncontrollable front end shimmy is back. have never had a ford truck with this sort of problem. don't know if it's just the dampener, or combination of inadequate shocks/suspension, but it's dangerous to drive. ford must be held accountable for this design defect! i take it back to the dealer tomorrow for a 3rd attempted fix. vehicle now has 40,000 miles, but, as i said, this is the 3rd time for replacement. something structurally is causing the steering issue. i hope it doesn't take fatalities for ford to find a solution.

And least 6 times while i motion front steering shakes violently after hitting a bump this last time was after the truck had been to the dealership to fix the problem. this is not the only the only vehicle with this problem. this last time i ended up in the opposite lane of traffic pulling a trailer loaded with livestock before getting the vehicle under control. dealership encouraged me to report this problem. i can't tell you how dangerous of a problem this is. you have no control of the steering when this happens

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a death wobble while driving moderate speeds over unleveled land. the contact stated that the vehicle shimmied violently and force had to be used to steer. ford of murfreesboro (1550 nw broad st, murfreesboro, tn 37129, (615) 713-1436) was notified of the failure and provided a loaner vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 34,000. *dt*jb

I experienced steering ossalation and what is considered the "death wobble" while traveling at around 70 mph, it happens after crossing a bridge seam the truck becames uncontrollable, shaking violently , it was so violent i had to slow to almost 20 mph to get it to stop but i was able to get off to the side of the road once i could control the steering. this is not an isolated issue and seems a huge problem with the 2017. ford has issued a tsb, but the truck should be recalled. 1 affected product

Death wobble at highway speeds if any small bump in the road

At highway speeds, bumps in the road cause the steering to begin to wobble and make the vehicle uncontrollable, slowing down allows the driver to regain control. it has been called the death wobble be many people and appears to be a known issue. problem started around 25000 miles. continues to this day at 45000 miles, seems to be getting worse.

2017 ford f-250 wheels violently shaking when driving over bumpy or bridge expansion joint. vehicle had 22000 miles when first started. been to dealership four times with no fix. this problem is going to kill people if not resolved. have been told, air pressure not correct, rotors, brakes, tires, alignment. all of these have been addressed with no resolution. ford has a problem and are not taking responsibility. spent 70k on fords super duty and afraid to drive or let any family member drive. if or when something tragic happens the lawsuit will not be pretty. tell ford to fix the issue! dealer said they performed tsb 18-2268 and still no resolution. i'm curious if ford executives would be willing to put their family in this vehicle for a family outing? invested too much money to purchase this vehicle and now too much time and additional money to fix with no solution.

The vehicle has a "death wobble" making the vehicle impossible to control. it has almost killed me twice. https://youtu.be/4jv7l8bbo1q the link is a video of what happens to steering when the death wobble occurs. i am fearful for my life

The vehicle was went into "death wobble" on numerous occasions. it was extremely scary for my wife and kids. the vehicle was taken to a dealership where the problem was "fixed." it has since occurred 2 more times after the fix. ford does not seem to have a permanent fix.

When driving on interstate at 75mph the truck began to shake violently after crossing over a bridge. the truck uncontrollably veered into the left lane. the truck has been 'repaired' by ford motor company three times and still has the same problem. the truck came out of the shop most recently 2 days ago and is already having death wobble issues. the truck currently has 39,000 miles. a video of the occurrence is available, but i was unable to upload.

The vehicle will begin to shake uncontrollably while driving at highway speeds when i drive over a bump, bridge grove, or any other irregularity in the road. when this is experienced i have to brake immediately to get the speed down to gain control of the vehicle. controlling the vehicle is scary enough, add in congested traffic while doing this and its's a nightmare each time, which is every time i'm on highways.

On multiple occasions, when driving the vehicle over 50 mph and hitting a bump or ridge in the road, the truck violently shakes and is extremely difficult to control. this is referred to as a "death wobble." we have taken the truck to our local dealer for the service bulletin repair that ford has issued for this problem and the repair did not fix the problem. the dealer and ford customer care do not have a solution. this is a known problem and our dealer tells us they have 8 trucks in for service with the same problem and no solution. this is extremely dangerous.

My truck has less than 16,000 miles. i have experienced 'death wobble' on six (6) separate occasions between january 16 and march 18, 2019. all instances occurred at speeds between 60 and 70 mph. five of the instances occurred on rough roads, state highways and interstate highways. one instance occurred as i went over an expansion joint on an interstate highway bridge. the 'wobble' results in a very violent shaking of the entire front end of the truck and the steering wheel. it feels as if the driver loses complete control of any steering abilities until you are able to slow down to a speed of less than 50 mph. this truck was purchased nine months ago as a new vehicle from courtesy ford in sauk city, wi. the dealer replace what they described as a stabilizer bar on its first attempt to fix the problem. it is now at courtesy ford for a second time as they continue to try to fix this problem. i purchased this heavy duty truck in order to safely pull our fifth wheel camper and i no longer feel safe driving this truck.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. the contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the vehicle shook and the front wheels zig-zagged toward the right. the contact thought it was due to the snow on the ground but the failure recurred during normal weather conditions. the vehicle was difficult to control. the vehicle was taken to bob maxey ford dealer (313-392-9200, located at 1833 e jefferson ave, detroit, mi 48207) where the technician diagnosed and replaced the steering damper. the failure recurred, while driving 65 mph and as the driver attempted to exit the road the vehicle jumped the curb, zig-zagged until the vehicle was under control. there was no warning indicator. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact back to the dealer. the contact called the dealer and was not called back. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

Death wobble occurs when hitting bumps or going over overpass where road texture changes over 50 mph. vehicle violently shakes and looses control until speed is reduced. this could cause a major accident. taken to ford dealership 2 times to repair with no luck. vehicle is still under warranty and only has 22,000 miles.

Death wobble at highway speeds after hitting expansion joint in road

Death wobble - at about 55-60 miles per hour with an empty truck, i experienced the death wobble on the freeway. my truck seemed to go over a very slight pothole in the road and began this jumping. the freeway was crowded and i was in lane#3. the truck swerved violently. i had to slam on my brakes and get to the shoulder. the death wobble did not stop until i slowed to about 15 miles per hour. i was unable to control the vehicle. the problem happened once more the same day. it took ford a week to get an appointment. once the vehicle was seen they only replaced the steering damper with the same type and did a front end alignment. truck still wants to jump around on road surfaces and i feel the death wobble could happen at any moment. the service manager acted like this was the first time he had heard of this issue, until i did a google search and found many discussions and complaints about other 2017 super duty trucks doing the same thing. then they admitted to seeing it on other vehicles. i felt like i was going to crash at any moment.

The trucks steering wheel shakes violently at highway speeds. you have to hold on and reduce speeds to almost a stop to get it to stop. it is the scariest thing i have ever encountered with a vehicle in over forty years of driving. ford is well aware of the problem. i'm concerned that you all are silent. if your agency continues to ignore this you all should just closedown and find something else to do.

I have the death wobble like so many others. it starts when i'm driving and a small bump in the road and the steering wheel start rotating left and right almost uncontrollably unless i slow almost all the way to below 10 miles an hour. my neighbor and countless other owners are having the same issue. i also have a 2011 f250 that i've never had this issue. i think it's an geometry issue. two times i was on the north loop 289 access road turning north under the overpass and traveling around 15-20 miles an hour. dec 2017 the third time i was between cr 7700 and hwy 41 on cr 1730 both in lubbock tx. dec 28th 2018

Death wobble - the uncontrollable death wobble has struck at highway speeds a total of seven times with my 2017 ford super duty. the steering wheel and the entire truck shakes violently, to the point of being uncontrollable, until the truck slows down to about 40 mph. this is a very concerning safety issue, and even more surprising is that ford does not have this under a recall! as we researched what the problem was, it became very apparent that ford has a problem with their super duty trucks and steering. when the death wobble strikes it is extremely concerning. this condition has not been fixed due to parts being on back order. this is indeed a serious safety issue.

At highway speeds the vehicle will go into a "death wobble" when going over bumpy roads. the vehicle shakes violently and i am forced to slow down to about 25mph in order to regain control of the truck. i took the truck to my local ford dealer when it first happened and they replaced parts which temporarily fixed the problem. the first incident occurred on 12-22-18 and was fixed on 01-04-19 by replacing the drag link and damper assembly. today, 03-31-19, the truck did another death wobble at 70 mph.

At speeds around 70 mph, when a series of bumps are driven over the truck begins to shake violently and continues until the speed drops to around 20 mph. when it happened to my wife it shook so badly she crossed centerline and was in the opposing traffic lane. the steering wheel shakes violently as well. this is the second time it has happened and this is a nearly new truck. from searching the internet it appears this is a problem that has been brought to ford's attention and is called the"ford death wobble". if not fixed we will not be able to keep the truck it is so dangerous.

Sustained steering wheel oscillation (aka death wobble) while driving down a us highway at approximately 55-60 mph i encountered a slightly rough patch of pavement that affected the passenger side of the truck only. the steering wheel started to violently shake back and forth until i slowed to approximately 35mph and the oscillations ceased. ford does have a tsb out on the issue but they are only replacing parts that have worn out, not the hidden issue that is causing heavy duty suspension parts to wear out so quickly.

Stock, as delivered by the dealer, 2017 f250 superduty 4x4 fx4 with 20,xxx miles. three events have occurred so far.. at speeds around 55mph the front end starts to shake violently after hitting bump.(death wobble). the bump that initiated the violent shaking of the truck and loss of steering control were not major bumps and on state highways. you loose control of steering the truck until the vehicle is below 25mph. found numerous references of this occurring when searching issue on line. dealer says it an known issue and would replace a steering component bushing under warranty. asked if this would solve the issue. was told to try an aftermarket dual stabilizer. dealer would not cover under warranty. sounded to me like they component that was damaged would be replace but the cause of the component failure would not be resolved.

While the vehicle is traveling above 45 miles an hour i hit a bump in the road and the front driver side wheel starts to wobble and steadily wobbles faster and faster until the vehicle is hard to control and i have to bring it to a stop for it to settle down before i can proceed this first happened in december 2018 i took it to the dealer they said everything was fine it happened again in february 2019 the vehicle is now at the dealer for over a week for this problem i have since learned and done research the term that is being used is the death wobble the truck has 15,500 miles on it

Violent front end shaking after hitting bumps while driving at 50-60 mph.

On two occasions during the week of december 10, 2018 my f250 experienced violent oscillation of steering wheel after crossing over a highway expansion joint. in both cases i had to excessively grip the steering wheel and slow the vehicle down to around 20 mph to regain full control. both occasions were experienced during evening rush hour with heavy traffic in close proximity. the location that prompted the oscillation was during a gradual left curve in the highway.

With only 15,000 miles, my ford f250 4x4 super duty truck (all stock) would wobble violently when hitting a bump or dip on the road, typically at speeds over 45mph. i brought the truck in for service as this occurs frequently. ford replaced several steering parts and admitted to what they call a "death wobble". what scares me the most is that the wobble was so bad, it forced me into the medial of the interstate and nearly caused a major accident. my fears are more toward that if i had my 17 year old driving the truck, much worse could have happened as it took all i had to maneuver the truck off the highway and down to a safe speed to bring the truck back under control. the wobble or shimmy was so extreme that i felt it needed reported. when i asked if the parts replacement would solve the problem indefinitely, they could not give me a good answer. so my fears again are "what if this happens again and what if my teenager is driving". i don't feel this problem is resolved and needs further investigation before someone is seriously hurt, or worse.

While driving on an interstate between 60 & 65 mph i hit a bump and immediately encountered a severe vibration from the front end through the steering wheel. the vibration was so sudden and violent that i nearly lost control. i immediately slowed the vehicle and at approximately 50 mph the vibration stopped. i exited the highway and stopped in a parking lot. i removed the wheel covers and verified that the lug nuts where tight and that the tires where in good operating condition. i also inspected the steering linkage and found nothing wrong. at this point i chalked it up to the highway and went about my business. the next day while driving my family it happened again. at this point i parked my truck and now will be taking it to the dealership for troubleshooting. i googled the issue and there are pages of complaints/issues with this same scenario and is deemed "death wobble".

When traveling at highway speeds the vehicle will begin to violently shudder. it can rip the wheel from your hands and increases in severity as you slow your vehicle. this is more commonly known as the ford death wobble. i have a few video examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdefjb7c2x8

While driving, if the vehicle hits a bump the front end and steering wheel will shake violently back and forth and side to side causing instability and making the vehicle hard to control until the vehicles speed is dramatically decreased or in some instances stopped completely on the side of the road. this has happened numerous timeson the highway traveling at speeds around 70 mph as well as when traveling on city streets at a lower rate of speed

At highway speeds when vehicles comes across chatter in rough roads or at bridges vehicles steering violently shakes. vehicle is difficult to control. to regain control by lightly hitting the brake to reduce speed to about 20 miles per hour so vehicle stops shaking. i could take a video of it if you like just contact me.
