At highway speeds, after hitting bump, front wheels start uncontrollable oscillation back in forth causing steering control to be lost and feed back through steering wheel. i must come to complete stop for it to stop. dealer has tried to fix problem three times but has not fixed issue.
Three cracks developed in the aluminum cab around three different doors all in similar areas (sharp 90 degree bends). truck has 13.5k miles on it and is only two years old. all cracks appeared after it experienced 'death wobble'. guessing the violent shaking it experienced is the root cause for these cracks. of course ford doesn't want to buy it back and will repair these cracks. no way to tell what other damage occurred behind any panels or welds. death wobble in these trucks needs to be engineered out. not only did it almost push us into a wall on the highway when it occurred but it induced cracks into the cab. now i'm stuck with a $63k truck that my family is scared to ride in and i'm concerned structurally was compromised.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving 50-60 mph over bumps in the road, the vehicle violently shook and experienced the "death wobble". there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to jim snead ford (401 w main st, waynesboro, va 22980, (800) 650-9207), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 35,000.
When driving at any speed, the steering seems sloppy. at highway speeds, a bump in the road will send the vehicle into a terrifying shimmy.
I experienced the death wobble in january 2019 at around 37000 miles , took truck to dealership they replaced what ford recommended, steering damper , etc. this past friday sept 27, 2019 i experienced the death wobble again after only putting 9k miles on my truck. i was again like last time traveling at around 70 and hit a bridge seam and the thrashing began. i was in 3 lanes of traffic in the passing lane and had to slow to around 30 mph. there was a lot of commotion around me but no one hit us or anybody else.
I have a severe wobble in the front end of my truck. it isn't a constant wobble and i never know when it will happen. i notice it happens at higher speeds and when hitting a bump. i have been to the dealership with this problem. the first time they replaced the steering stabilizer it didn't help. the second time i was told everything was tight and right and that my tires were out of balance. i had them balanced that same day, again it didn't help. the problem forcing me to basically park my vehicle or only drive it around town at lower speeds that i know i haven't experienced the wobble at. i am afraid to drive this truck because when this wobble happens it is very difficult to control i have to try and slow down and pullover to the shoulder of the road. you should do something about this as i have read numerous reports of people having the very same issue. it's unsafe and it going to kill people if something is not done to make the manufacturer fix these problems.
'death wobble' it started when my truck was a little over a year old at 24,000 miles. i was driving down the highway at approximately 60 mph, hit a bump in the road, and the vehicle started shaking violently and was uncontrollable. the steering wheel was shaking to the point where i couldn't grab it. the truck was all over the road. i slammed on the brakes and it quite shaking once i got down to about 25-30 mph. i have since learned this is a common issue, which scares me. someone is going to get hurt. you cannot imagine it until you've experienced it. i've had my truck at the dealership twice and they have worked on it under warranty. the problem persists. i'm not one to complain, and i have been a huge fan of ford vehicles my whole life, but this is a severe safety issue. there are several youtube videos to give you an idea what it looks like.
After a bump in the highway such as a pot-hole or bridge approach, my 2017 f250 will shake uncontrollably at speeds anywhere from 60-75 mph. this started shortly after purchasing it brand new in 2017. recently my wife had experience this to the point where she was shaken off the roadway and tonight i had this happen to the point where i could focus on the road, that's how bad it was shaking!!! i took approximately 3/4 mi before i could get it under control. mind you this happened over four different bridges. one being a 150' drop to the river below. . i'm finally at my breaking point with this truck. i have never once had a bad thought over the last 17 years of driving fords truck but this one broke me. i have kept this truck stock from the wheels, tires, and suspension. i don't understood how ford could put out such defective vehicle???
Vehicle front wheel starts shaking when it hits a bump in the road, you have to slam on the brakes to slow down enough to make it stop. it happened 3 times with about 14000 miles, put it in the shop and it's been good until 28000 and it's done it three times in the last few days. almost put me in the wall on one occasion , going back to shop. all highway driving 60 to 70 mph.
When traveling at speeds over 50miles per hour, if the truck hits a bump it will start to vibrate and shake violently driver has to hang on and brake the truck down to 20to30miles per hour. dealership knows of this problem and actually wrote on my paperwork death wobble. replaced steering damper and adjusted air pressure which worked for awhile but happened again jan 6 2020. first time wobble was end of sept 2019 four times this has happened and it is very dangerous problem!! i do not trust the safety of this truck !
While traveling in the #3 lane at 57 mph at 6:10 p.m. on interstate 80 in northern california; as i drove over a rough patch of roadway, the steering wheel began to shake/oscillate violently as was the entire truck, which had very little control of the steering at that point. i decelerated the truck without applying the brakes as i thought that would send me into an uncontrollable spin, possibly causing a crash or worse. luckily, drivers around me realized something was wrong and gave me as much space as they could so that i could regain control of the truck. once i slowed to approximately 40 mph the shaking was not as intense and i began to carefully brake all the while attempting to get over to the right hand side of the roadway. i stopped the truck on the shoulder of the roadway. since my ford dealer was closed at that time; i drove the truck on surface streets back home and contacted my dealer the next morning. the dealer examined the truck over a two day period and said they could not duplicate or find anything amiss with the truck. a day prior, the service advisor asked me if the "death wobble" started before or after i had the truck serviced. i told him i had the truck serviced on saturday and the "death wobble" started on thursday, so it was after. the next day on his return call to me he indicated they couldn't find anything amiss with the truck other than the tire pressure was not correct, for which they adjusted to "proper" inflation. below is the synopsis of the repair as it is written on my invoice: 24748 perform test drove steering wobble do not duplicated at this time perform put vehicle on rack and inspecton front end check alignment ok pass check air tires pressure found front tires at 70 psi rear 60 psi perform adjustment to specs front 60 psi rear 65 psi recommend return vehicle to customer at this time check on future concerns
After having truck in for death wobble and new steering dampener installed, truck started violently wobbling again at speeds of 55-70 going across some bumps or bridges. the whole truck, dash, steering, wheels and seats shake until you slow back down to 50. there is very little control of the truck when this is happening. so now truck is in the shop again for the same issue. it does not matter if it is a highway, a street or a road. certain bridges, overpasses or bumps will cause the wobble to start. deathly frightening for 10 year daughter riding in truck with me.
While driving down highway at 61 mph, truck hit a very slight bump in road and a violent shaking of the tires and steering began. i immediately slowed down until the shaking stopped. by the time the shaking stopped i was going approximately 25 mph. this was not just a light shaking. it was very violent !
This complaint is referring to the death wobble on the ford super duty. death wobble defined as uncontrolled oscillation of steering wheel and front wheels causing lack of control of the vehicle. i first experienced this issue when truck had ~ 20000 miles. i had vehicle service by ford dealership @ ~ 28000 miles and was told steering dampener was replaced. death wobble reoccurred again ~10000 miles after service. however vehicle is now out of warranty and i do not have the funds to keep making frequent repairs. death wobble is occuring at highway speeds when going over bridge expansion gaps, hitting potholes, or similar road bumps.
I have a 2017 f250 that developed a seriously violent shake in the front end when hitting a small bump or bridge expansion at normal highway speeds. after the truck nearly got out of control on a few occasions twice with my young daughter in the vehicle i took it to the dealership. the dealer proceeded to tell me they have been having an overwhelming amount of problems with this in these model trucks. they informed me that it was a problem with the track bar, however it was on back order. i was told that it would be okay to continue driving the truck while i waited for the part. after 3 months of me calling repeatedly to check on the status it finally came in and they replaced it along with the one shock because they said it caused it damage. now here i am a couple months later and the "death wobble" is back and more dangerous. i take the truck back in and tell them the track bar is causing the problem again. they proceed to tell me that they will look at it, it could be several things. mind you the truck has 44,000 miles now and anything but the track bar they tell me is no longer under warranty, despite that this is a documented problem i've had them looking at that they have not fixed. now i get a price quote telling me that it needs a drag link, a rod, and an end assembly and that it will cost me $625 for the repairs! this is for a problem that i brought to the dealership for repair months ago and i got stuck waiting on back ordered parts. even after the new diagnosis i asked what would be the guarantee that i don't pay to fix the "new problem" and get the truck back and it still have the issue? i was told that "i can't promise it's not also the track bar, but these parts are definitely loose and part of the problem." if they're all connected to the problem then why didn't they all get replaced the first time after they told me to continue driving it? not safe! *tr
At about 45 mph after hitting rough patch on a bridge surface i experienced what is referred to as the ford death wobble. the steering shook so violently i had zero control of the truck. the only recourse was to immediately brake to almost a stop before being able to regain control. fortunately i was in a rural area of eastern or and had no traffic around me. had there been traffic it could have easily led to a collision or another vehicle having to take evasive action. the loss of steering control started when crossing a concrete surfaced bridge that had a fairly rough surface. the road plane was lightly sloped to the right. the vehicle is a 2017 f250 super duty diesel. the loss of steering control happened on september 13, 2019, the next time it occurred was two days later at about the same speed. this time i was slowing down so the loss of control was less significant. there have been no modifications to the truck, everything is stock. the local ford dealership does all the maintenance. there has been no damage, collisions or rough use of this truck. the majority of the mileage has been around town, with about 20% being highway use.
I currently have about 33,000 miles on my stock 2017 f250 lariat truck with factory 20" wheels and factory michelin tires. about 10,000 miles ago, the front end exhibited the "death wobble" at highway speeds when crossing over a bump/expansion joint in the road. the dealer replaced the torsion bar, steering stabilizer, and some other parts. today, with a trailer in tow, while driving straight on the freeway, it happened again. later in the day, i dropped the trailer and the truck's front end did it again at 55mph while in an overpass turn immediately after crossing an expansion joint. everything is stock except for the new parts the dealer replaced last year. i have 60 psi in the front and 65 psi in the rear. i have a video of an occurrence but this system will not allow me to attach an mp4 file.
Getting "death wobble" or steering oscillations and violent shaking when hitting bumps on road at moderate and highway speeds. took the truck in at 24k miles and steering parts were replaced under warranty due to excessive wear. 7 months/14k miles later, same thing happening, took vehicle to dealership and same parts plus others now need replaced and ford claims it isn't covered under warranty
Death wobble, shimmy, or oscillation at highway speeds after hitting bump, bridge expansion joint or imperfection in road. vehicle becomes uncontrollable, darts unto other lane if wobble starts in a curve. must slow to 15-25 mph to regain control
About 19000 miles truck had a "death wobble" when hitting bump at freeway speeds. dealer replaced steering dampener. still doing it. now dealer is blaming it on worn tires. if tires were worn it would do it at all speeds. filed complaint with ford about a month ago. no response.
Accelerating on to interstate at about 65mph, the drivers side front wheel hit a depression in the road surface, the steering wheel started to swing violently from left to right with the magnitude of the displacement becoming larger in a very short period of time. i braked hard bringing the vehicle onto the side of the freeway. narrowly missing an 18 wheeler truck. after checking front suspension, i gingerly rejoined the freeway and continued at 45mph to the next exit. i understand that this is know as death wobble in the f250 community
Driving truck on highway at about 73 mph. steering wheel started shaking back and fourth badly, wobbling. applied brakes and it settled down. it has done this several times. also done at about 50 mph on newly asphalt highway. apllied brakes and it settled down. i also had my tires balanced at two different tire shops that i deal with all the time. all this is drving straight on smooth asphault highway. took to dealer and they said steering dampner (i think was the name) was bad. replaced it and said they drove it and was ok. truck had around 17,800 when it first did this. truck still had a very very slight right to left shake.this was done on 9/20/2019, 18,257 miles. did not have a "death wobble" again until 11/15/2019. it was horrible. on intersate fourty in arkansas driving on straight road about 78mph around 8:00 at night.. did not feel any bump. worse wobble i have had on my truck . the wobble did no stop until i got off interstate and stopped the truck. scared me and my brother to death!!! did not do it again on way home, this is about 350 miles. still has little shake to steering wheel that i said earlier. i don't know what would have happened if this had been my wife or grand daughter. this is a very very vsry serious problem. i called my dealer when and he said bring it back and try not to drive it over 70mph. this should not have anything to do woth it. i have videos of some of this, but not the last time
First time at 6000 miles driving 70mph expenernst the death wobble. ford couldn't get parts they needed. allined at local ford dealer to ford recommendations. didn't experience again till 26000 miles. we are on a trip and it has happened 7 times. ford doesn't seem to want to admit we have a problem. we were on the interstates.
Commonly being referred to as the death wobble - driving at freeway speeds, truck begins to shake horribly, need to slow down, pull over for it to stop. dealership wants to replace steering stabilizer but stated if that doesn't work then they will do front end alignment with caster shims replacement
Death wobble in the 2017 ford f250 is not acceptable. we were nearly killed this past weekend. ford service has it right now. but from all the reviews i have read, the wobble returns and usually after the warranty has expired.. this is a serious problem. it happened one time to us 6 months ago, and this past weekend about 5 or 6 times on a 250 mile road trip. shakes and wobbles uncontrollably . we were on i-40 going about 70 miles mph. when we would hit bumps or cross uneven bridge it would go crazy.
Death wobble vehicle shakes violently if a bump in road is hit, requiring vehicle to be stopped to end the shaking, making it dangerous when can't stop in traffic. happened on multiple occasions, with the date listed as the most recent. steering wheel is pulled out of hands while driving.
In doing research, i experienced 'death wobble.' we were driving down the highway and the truck started to violently shake. this action caused us to go from one lane to another on the freeway. two hands were needed to maintain control and not go off the road. we stopped and inspected and saw nothing.
My truck has had the front end death wobble since the middle of 2019. i have had it in the ford dealership for repair. they replaced the steering stabilizer and told me they added some shims to correct an caster problem.. they returned the truck to me.shortly after that it began to wobble again. i contacted the same dealer to have it looked at again. i scheduled it, but they immediately told me that the next fix would require parts that were not available. so i am waiting on parts that are supposedly 60-90 days out. there are many documented complaints on this same issue and ford will not do anything about the unsafe condition. ford dealers are telling customers that these trucks are not designed to be driven faster than 70 mph or to spend out of pocket money to buy aftermarket parts that are known fixes for the problem. bottom line is my 60k$ truck is still in warranty and a death trap to drive and ford is not aggressively fixing the problem. the death wobble happens at anywhere from 50+mph when you encounter an uneven portion of road like a expansion joint at a bridge. the wobble will not stop until you are below 30 mph. when the wobble occurs it is not uncommon that you loose control causing you to be in the oncoming lane of traffic.
While driving at highway speeds twice i have hit a bridge with a somewhat rough approach. the steering wheel and the front end of the truck shakes violently. the first time the shaking stopped when i slowed down to 55mph or so. the next time i had to brake aggressively and fade to the side of the road. this will lead to fatal accidents. my tire pressure was set to factory specifications listed on the front door frame. original tires are well within wear limits and the truck drives straight.
Death wobble. when i hit any rough spots on road, or bridge joints, or road joints at or above 60 mph i get a violent wobble on front of the truck. i have a very difficult time controlling it and have to quickly slow down below approx.40 mph for it to stop. this happens frequently. my truck was serviced for this issue at approx. 20k miles and the issuse subsided for a while but has started happening again with approx 37k miles. this is a very unnerving and dangerous situation when it happens.
While traveling on interstate i-84, i experienced a wobble and steering issue that threw my vehicle from the right lane into the left lane. fortunately nobody was in the left lane. i was travelling approximately 70 mph and hit some uneven pavement and small pot holes. my experience was very scary and could have resulted in serious injury or death. my research of the symptoms closely matches the death wobble. this is very disturbing. my truck is currently at the dealer for an alignment. however, further research show that these alignments can make things worse. i strongly urge that this issue be investigated across the country. somebody is going to die as a result of this issue.
I own a 2017 ford f250 that i bought new and now has approximately 30,000 miles. in august 2019 i was driving with my wife and two young children at approx 60mph on a two lane highway. road conditions were dry and i hit a slight frost heave on a straight stretch of highway. all of a sudden the vehicle started shaking violently and i have very little control. i was able to slow the vehicle down to approx. 25mph before the shaking stopped. luckily there was no oncoming traffic or it could have resulted in a catastrophic head on collision. i have never experienced such violent shaking from a vehicle, it felt as if all four wheels were held on by a single lug nut and i had very little control. i called the dealer immediately and they schedule me for repairs. i later researched the issue and realized that this issue has a name "death wobble" and that it is common in ford trucks. i have not experienced the issue since but i feel this is an extremely significant safety concern and i am honestly very concerned that it may happen again. if there would have been oncoming traffic or icy road conditions that day it could have resulted in a very tragic accident. i just learned of this site to report safety issues or else i would have done it much sooner. it appears that ford has a design flaw that needs to be addressed and i cannot believe they continue to allow this to happen. i am fearful that it is going to take fatalities before this extreme safety issue is corrected.
Death wobble. if you hit any rough spots on road at or above 60 mph you get a violent wobble on front of the truck. you have a very difficult time controlling it. you have to get below 20 mph for it to stop. this happens frequently. dealership says not a problem.
Vehicle experienced an uncontrollable front end "wobble" at highway speed. has occurred 3 times in the past week. 2 of those incidents with young (19 and 24 yr old) drivers at the wheel. seems to occur coming off a bridge onto highway pavement at 60-65 mph.
Truck has approx 15,0000 miles have experienced violent shaking of truck when crossed rough pavement at 45 mph have experienced this twice recently
At certain speeds, if you drive over a rough patch in the road, the steering wheel will violently shake, at which time you basically lose control of the vehicle. this can also happen when driving over raised pavement markers. the same thing is true when driving over a bridge with expansion joints. in all cases, the truck's steering can occasionally experience a 'death wobble'. recently, while towing my 5th wheel trailer 'on the highway', i was driving 60 mph down a 6% grade and hit a small rough patch in the road. the steering wheel shook violently. i briefly lost control of the vehicle. at the time, i was traveling 5 mph below the posted speed limit. i was towing a 12,000 pound 5th wheel trailer. i was able to eventually slow the vehicle down to about 40 mph and the wobble subsided. it was the scariest thing i've ever experienced while towing a trailer. the whole time during the wobble, the vehicle was drifting left and right out of control. it happened two more times during the 2 hour trip. it's important to note that it's also happened several times with no trailer attached. i'm not sure what the problem is, but it seems to involve the steering/suspension. the truck has less than 12,000 miles on it.
Pulling a gooseneck trailer with moderate load descending a mountain pass, when applied brakes, front end went into the death wobble and had to come to a near stop. in heavy traffic on level terrain while braking the same thing happens and had to come to a near stop. after unloading ,i tried the same braking on level terrain and had no problem. after unhooking the trailer i tried the same braking scenario and had no problem. the vehicle is unsafe to drive hauling a load ,which the vehicle i designed for
In the past 18 months the steering problem got worse. in the last 6 months i have done alot of research and called the local ford dealers and said they will not repair the vehicle unless i get a recall notice> death wobble is serious. ford needs to fix there problems. please help. shakes like heck and almost wrecked multiple times. 2017 f250 super duty crew cab
Steering oscillations aka "death wobble": at 60-65 mph or greater, the steering wheel oscillates violently and the vehicle is difficult to control. the oscillation only stops after lowering speed to about 10 mph. the vehicle has 23,000 miles. this is a repeated problem; the dealer fixed it before at about 12,000 miles, but the problem has returned. the problem occurs multiple times a day and usually at specific areas where there are particular bumps on the highway surface.
What is known as death wobble. have video the situation. this is a terrible safety issue. please force ford to fix this problem . traveled on fm 1462 brazoria county tx. truck started violently shacking. was travel 55 mph had to slow to 30 then it stopped.
At certain speeds the front tires wobble you have to hang onto the steering wheel everyone calls it a death wobble but no one has a fix for it. i feel it could cause serious injury to me and my family
While driving east bound i25 at vail pass in colorado i was traveling at 65mph when i drove over some asphalt that had been repaired and lost complete control of my steering and went into oncoming traffic(i was in the far right lane/ we traveled across two lanes when out of control). the road work was normal, not bad. this problem occurs on every single bump and on every single bridge seam i drive over. this will cause a fatality if it has not already.
During "normal" travel when truck hits bump/road joint/bridge joint vehicle begins to shake uncontrollably. i found out this is called the "death wobble " happens at speeds over approximately 30 to 70mph. only way to stop this is to just let vehicle slow to stop which is very hazardous especially if you are on a highway or interstate
Death wobble when hit bumps going freeway speeds. loss of steering and truck shakes violently until speed is reduced to 25-30 mph. almost lost control on a recent vacation while pulling camp trailer.
I just bought my new 2017 f250 with 28000 miles last year and at any speed above 35mph or greater... if i hit a bump or any bad pavement my steering wheel start violently shaking side to side almost made me crash a couple times this is very dangerous for the safety of my children and other people ford needs to recall the parts that make this issue happen in the first place this is completely out of line for a new truck to almost kill you and your family please fix this issue before someone dies
At 60 miles an hr when you cross a bridge connection the front end shakes and wobbles violently. it literally takes control if the steering. scary to say the least. called sealership they said it is a common issue even named it death wobble. this should be a recall item! i almost crashed.
Driving on a highway i drove over a bridge at 65 mph, truck started a massive vibration in front. i was not able to steer or brake effectively
Death wobble truck in motion, happens on highways and freeways when going over 65 mph and you hit a bump, shakes and loss of control have to come to stop to regain control. started happening at 17k. informed there was no fix. endangers lives of all on board.
At approximately 50 mph vehicle began vibrating wildly. i stopped and checked for damage and there was none. took it to my ford's dealer and they described it as 'death wobble' and claimed to have fixed it. i recently was traveling at 65 mph and a rough section of road caused it to begin the death wobble. i stopped the truck and examined it again. started driving and the wild vibration started again. i have taken it to another ford dealer to fix.
When driving at highway speeds of 65mph to 75mph if the vehicle hits a rough bump in the road the truck will violently shake and bounce up and down pulling the steering wheel out of your hands. this causes a complete loss of control of the vehicle. you need to slow down immediatly in heavy traffic to 25mph to get it to stop. this happened to me twice yesterday on a highway trip from chicago to denver going 70mph on i-76 westbound, may 9,2019. the second time i was almost rear ended by a semi-truck. somebody is going to get killed if ford does not fix this asap. i have dash cam video of this but the file is too large to upload.
