My 2018 f150, after towing a trailer for 2 hrs, dies when stopping at a light or in a parking lot. in the tow/haul mode the auto-stop-start should not engage, but the dash warning light says "shift to p, restart engine" auto stop-start has stopped engine. then engine does not start easy and suptters and dies several times. dealer told me no codes were recorded and problem could not be duplicated by driving around and stopping. this problem happened several times in a 2 day drive pulling my trailer.
1.) f150 supercab drifts erratically. ford has aligned vehicle twice, but issue remains. feels like truck is in a high-wind environment, but it is a calm day. truck will veer off road unless extreme care is exercised. 2.) transmission lugs on acceleration, particularly @ 1100rpm and 38mph. 3.) hard "clunk/thump" sensation at low speeds, causing severe "whip-lash" action to occupants of vehicle. 4.)when taking slow left turn up a steep incline the truck lugs and transmission feel like it is slipping and unable to downshift, causing a significant loss of power and momentum. 5.) engine stalls when leaving stop light. dash lights come on saying" auto startstop shift to p, then restart engine."this is in the middle of a busy intersection. i am attaching a picture of the dashboard error. please notice i am still in "d" drive when this message came up.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ford f-150. the contact stated while driving at 15 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to engage as a result the contact rear ended another vehicle. no warning lights illumniated. the contact stated no air bags deployed in the vehicle. the contact stated the vehicle stalled however, the vehicle was able to re start. no police report was filed. no injuries were sustained. the vehicle was taken to chipola ford (4242 lafayette st, marianna, fl 32446) where the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 3,249.
I believe there is a major problem with the transmission. vehicle frequently makes a loud bang when started. the vehicle shudders and i feel a thud in the wheel well. it's like the clutch is failing or something? shifting gears extremely rough to the point where you're jerked around. sometimes, to get into gear, i have to turn the truck off and re-start. sometimes there is no power when trying to accelerate (or the truck is out of gear) from a stop which is extremely dangerous when cars are behind you or trying to accelerate merging onto the freeway. sometimes the vehicle simply drops out of gear and 'd" (drive) is not an option. this has also happened on the freeway. i've read about a lot of owner comments that are identical to mine. reading all these issues completely agree, this issue is extremely dangerous!
On two separate occasions while the vehicle was in motion with transmission in drive with auto start stop mode disabled via the dashboard button, the engine stalled and shut off, a message appeared on dashboard "auto start stop shift to p, then restart engine". this occurred september 14, 2019 and october 17, 2019. taken to dealership september 16, 2019. dealership states this is an unknown issue despite many similar incidents reported online, examples were shown to the dealership. dealership returned vehicle stating nothing wrong, no failure codes were stored in vehicle computer, no related service bulletins, unable to verify complaint. this is clearly a serious safety hazard. image attached shows dashboard message from october 17, 2019.
On initial take off, when the truck shifts through 1st and 6th gears it seems like the engine slows to the point that i have no power and then shifts. it also feels like the transmission slips. have been told this is normal, but it is certainly a safety concern for merging into traffic because i can't get up to speed fast enough to avoid an accident. ford needs to address this issue because it happens on most of their ecoboost engines and the 10 speed transmission combined. this truck has the 2.7l ecoboost engine.
2018 f-150 3.5 ecoboost makes a loud clattering sound after a cold start. the vehicle is still stationary and the sound lasts between 1-3 seconds. this will not occur on a warm startup, only cold. it appears to be valve train clatter coming from the top of the engine. this same problem was diagnosed on the previous generation 3.5 ecoboost engine and apparently this problem still exists. i have video of the start up sound if needed, but its widely documented on the internet.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ford f-150. while driving 60 mph, the oil pressure warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact stated that the ignition turned off in the middle of the road; however, she managed to park the vehicle on the side of the road. the contact checked the oil pressure and added oil to the vehicle. the contact restarted the vehicle and drove home. the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 17v672000 (engine). the vehicle was taken to don wood ford lincoln (located at 2065 e state st, athens, oh 45701, (740) 593-6642), but they were unable to duplicate the failure. the contact stated that the failure continued and smoke appeared coming from the left tail pipe. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 22,000.*dt*jb
On september 15, 2018 i purchased a new 2018 ford f150 5.0 v8. on 02/16/2019 (4,546 miles) after the first oil change it began making a knocking like noise. ford said it was normal, but the knock wasn't there before the oil change. ford tried to say it was the direct injection making the noise. which might be true but other owners have reported the knocking noises and have had scored cylinders that required the engine blocks to be replaced by ford. also on 07/04/2019 (10,416 miles) i noticed that the engine was making a rattling noise when cold from 1200-2000 rpm. after researching this noise, i discovered that there is a tsb for the rattling noise. on 07/16/2019 i took my truck back to the dealer (friendly ford in las vegas) and the tsb was preformed on the truck (tsb# 18-2354) the tsb did not fix the issue. on 10/23/2019 (12,600 miles) i took my truck to team ford in las vegas. the service department stated that ford told them the issue was normal operating characteristics. if either of these noises were normal, then it would have made them when it was brand new. these problems have been brought up to ford by numerous owners of f150's and mustangs with the same engine. ford refuses to fix anything and just says the issues are normal. since ford inssued a tsb for the rattle issue and replaced engine blocks for the knocking it tells me ford knows these are issues and they are not normal without nhtsa or ftc intervention ford may not fix these problems under warranty. they will become more of an issue outside of warranty and the consumer will have to pay for an issue ford should fix link to tsb: https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/attachments/18-2354-ford-f150-5-0-tsb-pdf.321793/
When starting engine it will hit very hard sound like the transmission but in fact is chain tensioner. took to dealer and they said that there seeing a lot of these issues with the 5.0 this needs addressed as i'm luck enough that it was still under warranty.
The first time the acceleration on my f150 stuck, i was on a country road. i was braking on a down hill to a stop sign. i made sure i was not double peddling and then slamed down on the brake peddle. i had plenty of space before the stop sign and slamming the brake regained the control. i did not report this to my ford dealer. i did not know that it would be an issue. approximately 4 months later the truck did it again. this time i was backing up and had my foot on the brake peddle again. i did not have enough time or space to regain control and i struck a tree, which stopped the vehicle. it caused major damage to the tailgate, bumper, light assembly, and passenger side bed fender. i parked the truck and walked away for several hours. when my husband went to move the truck, the brake peddle sank straight to the floor, like there was a lot of brake peddle movement and no brake pressure. i do not believe the gas peddle was sticking, more like the computer was accelerating when the gas was not engaged. my ford dealership ran diagnostics that day and it had no code issues. ford legal retained the truck and ran diagnostics again 3 months later and again no codes. still do not have an answer to what caused the acceleration issue. ford said there was no issue with the braking system. i would very much like to know if there has been similar occurrences with other 2018 f150's.
On two separate occasions (different trips) while pulling a 21' camper on the interstate at 60-65 mph, my truck would immediately stall when attempting to start it after getting gas. i would have to rev the engine in order to keep it running and then a prominent "clunk" would sound when i put it in drive. it ran rough initially but seemed to operate okay once moving and would once again die out if the engine was turned off and re-started. let it set for an hour while eating and it's okay.
5.0 v-8. my truck consumes over 2 quarts of oil every 2500 miles. ford says this is normal. my truck's fuel economy in any driving conditions is never better than 11.9 mpg's which should be and was much better than this when i first bought it. my engine knocks. my engines whines and whistles. my engine is down on power noticeably on the interstate which makes driving the truck dangerous. all of this ford says is normal. none of this is normal unless it was a 1976 pinto. this truck should be removed from the road permanently
About 8 mo. old 11,000 mi 2.7 l ecoboost engine smokes on cold start up oil is getting someplace it should not & could cause premature engine failure in traffic. it seems hundreds if not thousands of owners are having the same problem usually starting at about 6-7 months old and 10,000 miles or less. vehicle is stationary at start up sometime a small puff about wheelbarrow size often a large amount that envelopes the entire vehicle. ford f-150
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ford f-150. the contact stated that the auto start and auto stop features caused the engine to shut off while traveling 3 mph around a curve. the failure also caused the power steering to seize. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 17,000. *tt*jb
My truck has 15,000 miles on it. the acceleration will run away frequently (press the pedal and there is a severe lag and lack of power). there will be random engine noise when decelerating around 45 miles per hour. also, acceleration will be rough when going from 20-30 miles per hour just before the it shifts into a higher gear. i took this to the ford dealer and they said there are no error codes on the trucks computer system. also, the steering will be stiff or unaligned at random times. please assist in getting these issues corrected.
The vehicle was stopped at a traffic light and the automatic engine shut off engage. when the brake was release the engine did not start and a message flashed on the information center. can not quote you the exact message because it was morning rush hour and a line of vehicles were behind me anxious to move. the message was instructions was to place the vehicle in park and restart the engine. this resolved the situation but the engine should have restarted without having to place the vehicle in park.
This new truck's, which was purchased in january of 2019, 5.0 liter engine used 2.5 quarts of engine oil in the first 3500 miles. the truck is currently undergoing an oil consumption test at my expense.
Using the auto start system, the vehicle shut off normally at a stop light but did not restart. the vehicle died and had to be restarted manually, causing vehicles behind me to suddenly brake in anticipation of me going forward.
Electrical wiring. know problem with rodent (rats) being attracted to all critical wiring and destroying. this may cause serious safety issues as well as thousands of dollars in damages. so far i have had to pay more that $2000. in damages on a new (2018) vehicle. damage occurs while the vehicle is parked in a normal manner.
After towing a trailer for some miles (130 or so in this case) the vehicle stalls/dies after pulling up to a traffic light or stop sign. this repeated itself multiple times (7 in one town) and twice in another town before getting home. this happened with the auto stop feature enabled and disabled. system chimed at each occurence and indicated that driver should put truck in park and turn ignition key.
After a period of towing a 5200# trailer the 2.7l ecoboost engine would stall when not throttling. meaning, anytime slowing down or stopping the engine would cut off unexpectedly, forcing a manual restart. the truck did restart if the throttle was held in pushing gas and then throwing the truck into drive gear to move, however the throttle would have to continue to be pushing in order to maintain power. this occurred at 30+ mph in slowing down for accident/construction traffic as well as every time stopping for lights or gas. issue occurred many times during trip, but only while towing. after disconnecting trailer and allowing vehicle to cool/rest for an hour issue did not return until after running with trailer being towed at highway speeds again.
5.0 has a distinct rattling noise at lower rpm's. the engine also has a loud knocking noise which is different from the rattling noise. i have experienced the gas pedal temporarily sticking and the engine has a miss. also way down on fuel economy at 11mpg's. this vehicle is 3 months old and dealership says and (ford corporate supports dealership) that i have to pay out of pocket for any engine diagnostics regarding my 5.0 engine problems
Truck shuts off when pulling a camper and will not run after restart unless you rev the engine and quickly pull the shifter into drive and accelerate quickly. the instrument panel shows 'auto startstop shift to p, them restart engine.' this has caused many near miss accidents. the vehicle will stall when you try to cross an intersection or pull away from a stop sign.
On jan 25th, 27th and 29th a "malfunction indicator lamp - regulatory' light went on, and at the same time there was a warning of 'reduce power' the truck power results in an reduction of speed to 10-20 mph. this happens at speed, 60-70mph on the freeway, to 10-20 mph. fortunately i was able to get off the road. i took the truck to the dealer, after a 'software' upgrade i was told the truck was ok. however on fed 11th at night on a highway with no shoulder the "malfunction indicator lamp - regulatory' light when on, and at the same time there was a warning of 'reduce power' the truck power results in an reduction of speed to 10-20 mph. the only way to get the truck going, is to shut it off and re-start the truck, the engine 'light' stays on, however the truck runs fine. its now at the dealer, for the last 3 days. they think it has something to do with the turbo over boost. my main concerns is not the turbo, but the 'coding' that de-rates the engine, when at speed resulting in an immediate safety issue. while on all of my occasions i was able to get the truck restarted without another vehicle running into me. i am requesting assurances that the 'code' or programming that causes the reduced power to be removed. for me this is far more important that making a repair to the turbo, as it's directly to safety.
While driving, between about 800 and 1700rpms, when you let off of the accelerator pedal, the timing chains rattle for about 1 second. it does it every time within those rpm ranges.
During some starts engine will produce a smell. looking underneath vehicle, i've noticed 2 leaks coming from the exhaust system.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ford f-150. while driving 3 mph and approaching a stop sign, the automatic engine shut off engaged when the brake pedal was released. upon releasing the brake pedal, the steering wheel suddenly seized. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 17,459. the vin was not available.
Vehicle is a 2018 f-150 with the 5.0 v-8. when the engine is first started after a long period, it will exhibit an engine rattle noise when letting of the gas pedal between 1500 rpm to 800 rpm and sometimes when slowly accelerating. once the engine gets to operating temp, the noise goes away. the truck must be in gear and under load, it does not happen when in park or neutral. the truck has been taken back to the dealership to have tsb 18-2354 preformed with no success.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ford f-150. the contact stated that the auto start function was used to remotely start the vehicle. the contact later noticed flames under the hood. a fire truck arrived with a fire inspector who extinguished the flames. the insurance company was notified and stated there was extensive damager near the engine assembly. an independent source was called to investigate the failure. benna ford superior (3022 tower ave, superior, wi 54880, (715) 394-8669) and the manufacturer were notified of the fire. a fire inspection report was to be determined. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 10,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ford f-150. while driving 60 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle jerked back and forth and decelerated to approximately 20 mph. the engine seized and the contact noticed smoke coming from the hood and tailpipe. the vehicle was taken to evergreen ford lincoln (1500 18th ave nw, issaquah, wa 98027, 425-392-6900) where it was diagnosed that the engine failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 772.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ford f-150. while driving various speeds and changing gears, a high pitched whining sound was present. also, while driving and releasing the accelerator pedal, a rattling sound was present coming from the engine. in addition, water leaked into the cabin due to a faulty vent. the vehicle was taken to hassett ford (3530 sunrise hwy, wantagh, ny 11793), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 60.
There is an abnormal engine "rattle" noise when decelerating (letting off throttle) between 1000 and 2000 rpms. this has been a frequent complaint from 2018 ford f-150 owners with v8 5.0l engines. responses from f150 owners on various forums all indicate various explanations from ford as to the cause from normal engine characteristics, replacing cam phasers, replacing solenoids, and buybacks. a tsb was released in november 2018 with no known cases on any related forums of the tsb correcting the abnormal engine rattle noise. i have hjad the tsb performed and the noise was continued to be present. the concern from myself and other owners is the unknown long term effects on the engine performance and/or life and a continued lack of response from ford as to the cause or release of any fixes. the issue has been present since 1 week after purchasing the truck on november 21, 2018.
With auto stop/start disabled using the dash control, the engine shut down while moving on a city street in traffic during a slow-speed 90 right-hand turn. the on-dash message referenced either the auto shutdown or auto start/stop function stopping the engine and instructed that the vehicle be placed in park to restart. the vehicle did restart after coming to a complete stop and placing the transmission in park. vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection. they reported that no diagnostic trouble codes were present in the system and that the problem could not be replicated after "several" test drives.
Daughter drove the vehicle home, parked it, and turned off vehicle. while inside the residence, daughter heard dogs outside barking. daughter went to check on dogs and saw that the vehicle was on fire. the vehicle was parked and engine was not on. the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. the vehicle fire also burned a part of the exterior of the residence. the vehicle is currently still at the residence where it burned. i request that this vehicle be investigated because there was not reason for it to have caught fire. it was not involved in any type of accident.
I have had two run away full accelerations in this new truck. i accelerated firmly and the accelerator refused to disengage. at over 90 mphm i put the car in neutral, the rpm increased and i shut off the key. next time in the same drive it happened again and i immediately shut off the key. i will notify my dealer tomorrow. i will not drive in this vehicle again. as an experienced commercial pilot i have been trained how to deal with this issue but the public has no clue what to do.
Engine revs up on it own: when driving at a speed ~ 10 mph down my graveled 600 feet driveway, the engine revs up, exceeding 6000 rpm. this has occurred on 5 occasions, twice in november and three times in december, latest being 12/24/2018. i had the vehicle less than 5 months with 3300 miles on it. i noted when it occurs, it's when the vehicle is first started up. the rear tires dig in and start spinning, throwing gravel. pressing the brake and coming to a complete stop lower the rpm and settle the engine down. this could be a accident waiting to happen in highway or busy city traffic. i've noted on carcomplaints.com, several ford f150 owners have this problem.
While coming to a stop, the engine shut off and a message displayed that the engine auto start/stop function was engaged, put the vehicle in park, and re-start engine. this was with the auto start/stop feature already disengaged, which i always do. it is very dangerous for your engine to cut off while driving and have to stop, put it in park, and re-start it in moving traffic. i have read multiple reports of this same problem on several forums. vehicle is a 2018 ford f150 xlt, 5.0 engine, had about 4000 miles on it.
2,363 miles on the truck it downshifted on the hwy from 80 mph to 20 mph on its own, with a loud noise. had to get in the slow lane so not to have a wreck. it is equipped with auto start, where the truck engine automatically stops at a stop sign or light and restarts on its own. the trucked shut itself off while in traffic and had to be put in park and restarted, almost causing a wreck. took the truck back to the dealer again, when it made a loud noise and felt like we hit something when going 55 mph,the truck jolted we again got in the slow lane. then when sitting in the driveway the motor started racing on its own not touching the excelerator. had to turn off truck. we are afraid to take our grandkids in our new 2018 truck we are paying dearly for. the last time we took the truck to the dealer, they said there was nothing wrong with it. we are about to retire and wanted this truck to be our last, we have not even had it a year. we have done some checking online, we are not the only ones experiencing these types of problems.
I was headed home from work and my truck was stationary stopped at a stop light, and the automatic engine stop was active, with sync networked. a vehicle from behind ran into my 3 week old vehicle. the engine automatic start-stop sync started, and the engine raced to very high rpms. throwing my head back into the headrest again. i had to press really hard upon the brakes to prevent my vehicle from slamming into the car ahead of me. at that moment my mind thought of the toyota camry acceleration problem years ago, and upon the vehicle returning to normal idle rpms, i double checked that my foot was actually on the brake. my foot was actually on the brake.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ford f-150. while towing a trailer at 60 mph, the vehicle vibrated violently and shook. the contact had to drive dangerously below the speed limit to maintain control of the vehicle. the dealer (eric von schledorn ford, w4873 co rd r r, random lake, wi 53075, (920) 994-4376) stated that the failure was caused by the trailer not the vehicle. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that they would call the contact and dealer back. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 1,000. *bf *dt consumer stated vibration problem was an inherent problem.*jb
Vehicle stalls whenever coming to a stop after towing for more than an hour. requires the vehicle to be placed in park to restart, but will continue to stall out immediately. dangerous at intersections and stop-and-go traffic. also stalls (when towing) when attempting to restart after refuelling. only way to get the vehicle to start without stalling it to keep the gas pedal pressed to keep the rpm above 1500; or wait 10-15 mins for engine to cool. no check engine/computer system error given at all. only stalls when vehicle has been towing over a long distance. occurred 20+ times a day over the course of traveling across the us and canada in july/august 2018. took the vehicle into ford service center in longmont, co, but were unable to diagnose with no code. i am seeing more and more reports of the same problem occurring with 2018 ford f-150 2.7l ecoboost models. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1515205-2-7-ecoboost-stalls-dies-after-towing.html i have a video of the stalling occurring after refuelling but file size is too large to attach. let me know if you would like it emailed directly.
The truck has acceleration problems.. its known as the dead pedal.. i have taken it back to ford twice. they tell me all the trucks have this problem. im afraid that it going to cause a accident. my wife will not drive the truck because of this..
My truck has the 2.7 engine. while towing our trailer longer distances the truck will stall while exiting the highway or stopping for fuel. it will not restart without pressing on the gas and dropping it into drive. its very unsafe because you might be in a intersection and cannot steer it because of the electric steering. this has been a ongoing issue sincee it was new and they cannot figure out the problem. its to the point that i dont feel safe towing with this truck especially with my family in it.
Same issues i'm reading here. vehicle frequently makes a loud bang when started. shifts gears extremely rough to the point where you're jerked around. no power when trying to accelerate from a stop which is extremely dangerous when cars are behind you or trying to accelerate merging onto the freeway. my truck has been to dealer twice now. the first time it was because my fuel injector went out at 4,500 miles! it doesn't run much better now. when i took it in they just blew me off and said it was 'normal behavior for the vehicle'. reading all these issues here, ford really needs to take action! extremely dangerous!!
Excessive oil consumption approximately one quart per 1000-1500 miles
Engine makes a very loud clicking and ratcheting sound after every throttle lift for the first 15min of engine operation. i did not hear it until the ford dealership worked on the intake system for the stumbling and hesitation issues. it can be hear over 300 feet away. my neighbors and friends all ask what is wrong with my new truck. i suspect the engine vibration issue is related to this very loud intake noise.
Vehicle shudders and makes a popping noise form engine . sounds like a misfire. check engine light flashes on sometimes during this event. also when cranking it misfires sometimes. this has been ongoing since i drove the vehicle home day one brand new.
My 2018 ford f150 xlt v8 with 10-speed transmission has failed to accelerate from a stop after idling. the start/stop function is always disabled when i drive. the truck hesitates and stumbles upon light acceleration. one time it continued for a few seconds before quitting completely. it makes me really nervous when i am pulling out into traffic as i feel it may hesitate. i give plenty room to traffic and expect it to stumble so that i do not get into the middle of the road and have it quit. i've never had a vehicle that i had to substantially change my driving behavior to adapt to its many faults. dangerous truck.
This issue is happening widespead amongst owners of ford's new 3.5l high output powertrain. upon open throttle, the engine will instantly drop off all power, causing the truck to dangerously and unexpectedly drop to zero miles per hour. very dangerous and life threatening while entering roadways or interstate roads with traffic. upon open throttle, a "low oil pressure" light takes over the viewing area on the dash cluster and then disappears after restarting the vehicle. upon restarting, the truck will fail and provide a "low oil pressure" signal again after applying open throttle. this can happen when taking off from a dead stop or under cruising speeds, when open throttle is applied, the engine fails and cuts off all power. it doesnt matter if you are turning or going straight, the issue happens regardless. always happens under open throttle. this has become a widespead issue with owners of the truck from model year 2017-2018. ford needs to respond and fix this issue for the safety of their customers.
