Problems with 2015 Ford F-150 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

On average, the 2015 Ford F-150 starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRICAL SYSTEM and its various aspects after 45 487 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2015 Ford F-150

Cruise control shuts off during operation. intermittently will not turn on. analog speedometer will indicate speeds in excess of 40mph slower than real speed. stuck at 40mph when comes to complete stop.

Electric rear tailgate falls down randomly while driving at speed or even while parked. tailgate has fallen 5-6 times while truck is parked in last few months and also 5+ times while car is driving. it has fallen while truck was in reverse, and while truck was traveling on country roads at speeds of ~40mph. please note - this issue seems identical to the one ford just announced a recall for on the 2017-2019 f-250 superduty trucks. it must be related. our truck was in the shop just last week before this recall was announced. this truck should be included in the recall the tailgate most recently fell 11/28/19

Driving down the road today being mindful of the speed limit since i just got a speeding ticket two weeks prior. i looked at the speedometer and it read 62. i know the difference i speed variation just from driver feeling and experience. well i applied the brakes and the speedometer did not move. when i reached my destination i put the car in park and noticed my speedometer was frozen at 40 mph. so now according to the trucks brain 40 mph = 0 mph

Randomly the hill start assist control error would come up. additionally, service advance trac error would come up and the truck would go into some sort of limp mode with no acceleration allowed. finally, the truck started running really rough. all these things would happen while i was in motion and or turning. i have been broken down on the side of the highway 4 separate times now. everything is really random and can't be replicated. it's done this about 10 times now and the dealer has no idea how to fix it. my truck has been there for over a week with no remedy.

While operating vehicle, electrical issue occurs that locks windows and turns off air conditioning. vehicle cabin becomes extremely hot very quickly. ford dealership unable to diagnose issue yet continually reoccurs. not safe to operate the vehicle until the issue can be corrected. a search of the internet revealed numerous similar issues occurring in ford trucks.

The factory/ dealer installed tow brake controller does not apply enough brake power to stop trailer. when towing my 5th wheel(10000lbs)it works fine when i manually apply the override button but when i apply the brake pedal the trailer brakes don't get the command to engage with enough power to stop trailer, my truck is doing almost all of the braking. i have read online where many ford f 150 owners are having similar issues. ford says there is nothing wrong. i have been towing using the manual override switch or learning to slam on the brakes to stop. the trailer brakes do work almost when i slam on the brake pedal. i am sure that this shouldn't be happening because it's not safe.

Truck suddenly loses power, electrical systems fail. repaired multiple times by dealer diagnosing wiring connection fail under seats. continues to fail. 5 times in shop since 2016, no longer under warranty.

Started my truck using remote start. roughly 45-55 secs later, i get in my truck and the rear passenger area is filled with smoke. i shut off vehicle. i smelled burned electrical wires. i wasn't able to detect anything out of the norm. roughly 5-7 mins later, my back glass shattered. truck was stationary.

Corroded body control module and wiring. ford technicians unable to diagnose cause. caused vehicle to go into limp mode while driving in an unsafe manner.

While driving my 2015 ford f150 platinum (v6 eco boost) on an hwy (70 mph) the truck encountered loss of pedal response and three warning light as i coasted to a stop in heavy traffic. these three warning lights: hill assist traction control, advanced trac warning indicator, driver assistance indicator. the truck to transition to 'limp' mode (accelerator and power steering doesn't work) which a dangerous and scary. most 'limp' mode incidents have occurred while descending downhill, has occurred seven times so far. i have taken it to the dealer, and they just clear code and say your good ($130 diagnostic fee). then the error occurs the same day. with more online research there a massive problem with the throttle body which causes this to happen. there needs to be a ford recall for this before someone gets hurt.

Engine stalls at idle in park and at stop lights. sometimes it's bad and sometimes not as much or can go days without doing it.

Engine block heater recall #19s11 ford nhtsa # 19v-278 it has been over a year now waiting for replacement part...keep calling ford and they say parts are in, but i called dealer and they say not till october of this year, they keep putting it off.

Turned defrost on and in 2 to 3 minutes heard a loud pop and looked back and the rear windowpane had completely shattered. the break happened in motion on a city street. the defrost malfunctioned and overheated the window causing it to shatter.

My 2015 f150 ecoboost has 79,156 miles on it. over the past 3 days the truck has repeatedly lost power while driving in traffic on the highway. the rpm will drop down to 500 rpm, rough idle, no acceleration at all, hill assist light wrench light check engine light passenger air bag light and see owners manual pop up on the instrument panel. took my truck into ford today and they replaced the throttle body under my extende warranty not their emissions warranty as stated in their owners manual of 8 years or 80,000 miles. called ford and they don't know about an emissions warranty in their owners manual. looked online and youtube to discover this problem is not just me and frequent with others. this can really cause a horrible accident. luckily i'm a cdl driver and was able to safely get over on the shoulder this time. i'm not confident replacing the throttle body was a fix as it is a bandage to happen again at any point in time. this truck now is compromised and i wouldn't want any of my family using it or depending on it.

Truck is going into limp mode randomly and idling rough with no throttle response. getting dtc code p2112, electronic throttle body actuator stuck closed. thoroughly cleaned throttle body and it is still happening. this happens randomly driving down the road leaving me with no throttle response

Vehicle was stationary in parking lot. truck bed illumination lights on third brake light assembly over heated and melted third brake light assembly. the lights come on when the doors are open, and there is no way to turn them off without closing the doors.

Was driving on road with 35mph speed limit, looked down at speedometer and said i was going 85, ever since the speedometer is stuck between 35 and 95, when stopped it lays at 35-40mph. have read many others with similar issues.

My 2015 ford f150 lariat has a problem with the electric tailgate release. tailgate opens when not supposed to. opens when truck is started, during driving, and when truck is turned off. has happened for the past 60 days. truck is beyond warranty and no recall noted. tailgate comes open while towing trailer, causing issues. when i tow a trailer i have to pull fuse for tailgate release so that it does not drop during driving. very annoying and dangerous. mostly do highway driving. clicking noise on passenger side floor when tailgate is closed, tailgate will stay closed when door is locked. once doors are unlocked tailgate opens. need to step out of truck, while door is open i lock the doors, walk to tailgate close it, run back to drivers seat, close drivers door and press door lock button again to keep tailgate locked. works sometimes, other times i will be driving and the tailgate opens during driving.

I was on the highway and the hill start assist/traction control lights started coming on. a few hundred miles later, more dash lights started flashing and then all dash lights went off and the truck lost all power. i could no longer accelerate. after a moment, it started working again. after a few more miles, it did it again, and this time when it powered down, the abs break system went on and created a terrible grinding noise and brought me to a stop on the side of the highway. i limped it on the side of the highway, trying to find an exit, and the truck repeatedly did the lights flashing/power down/breaks applied several more times at low speed. the nearest exit was about 10 miles, so i had to continue to do this for some time. once i was at an exit, i disconnected the battery for about 20 minutes. when i re-connected the battery and started the truck, everything seemed fine, but now the check engine light was on. i decided to just risk it and keep driving, so that i could get home. about 100 miles later it started doing the same thing again. i was close enough to home to get off the highway and take back roads home. it did it a few more times and then quit doing it. this was a very dangerous situation, as my truck basically stopped while i was on the highway going 70 mph, and could have caused a serious accident, and left me no option but to either be broken down on the side of the highway or drive at very low speeds on the shoulder. the ford dealer that i took the truck to told me that they can't replicate the issue and all diagnostics come back clean, so they are not able to fix anything. others online that have had the same/similar issue have said that ford said that it is a damaged throttle body that needs to be replaced, but the dealership that i went to did not suggest that as the cause.

I was driving down a city road when the electrical system failed on 11/13. the entire electrical system would go dark for a minute and then come back on for a few seconds, during which i received numerous warning messages. when the system was out, the dashboard display was dead and power steering was offline. i started to receive warning messages about the charging system on 11/6. i brought it to three different places before it failed. on 11/6 advance auto parts told me it was fine. the light went away and later returned.on 11/8 autozone said the battery needed a charge. 11/9 monro said the alternator may need to be replaced. after monro, i made an appointment with ford. first available was 11/14. the incident occurred after not driving the truck 11/10-11/12. after the incident, i had the truck towed to ford for service. the dealership finally and reluctantly told me the cause of the failure. apparently, one or more of the wires connected to the alternator had been severed by rubbing against the housing meant to protect them. the truck was only 3.5 years old and had fewer than 15,000 miles on it. ford refused to cover it as it was 6 months out of warranty. the cause of the failure seems to be either a design flaw or a quality control issue. if either of those are the case, a recall may be necessary.

The analog speedometer shows incorrect speed even when it is in park it shows 25 mph.

I started the truck with the remote start to let it warm up. after around 3 to 5 minutes we went to get in and noticed smoke and a burning smell coming from the back seat. i turned the truck off and inspected the area the smoke was coming from and noticed the insulation was burned from the wire and my back window had cracks over the entire surface. i believe the rear defrost shorted out

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford f-150. while driving unknown speeds, the analog speedometer needle was stuck at 100 mph. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 19,000.

Electrical power connector for rear sliding window defroster broke at its attachment (factory soldered) point to the rear sliding widow glass. this leaves the defogger inoperable and eliminates rear visibility due to fog/frost/ice build-up. vehicle is just out of its 3 year warranty and has less than 28,000 miles. i have spoken with ford customer service. ford motor company service is unwilling to recognize/correct the factory defect and claimed to have no knowledge of similar issues for the 2015 model. this defect is apparently similar to that which ford has recognized for similar 2013 models, issuing a technical service bulletin (ford tsb asi-32259)

All american ford in paramus nj will not supply a loaner vehicle for a recall that will take several hours. i was told since i did not purchase the vehicle at that dealership they can't help me.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford f-150. while passing an 18-wheeler on the right side of the road at highway speeds, the adaptive cruise control activated and the collision warning with brake support feature engaged without warning. the failure occurred twice and caused the vehicle to come to a complete stop. the contact felt that the sensors or an electrical fault within the vehicle could be affecting the adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support, which could cause a crash. the dealer (autonation ford frisco, 6850 tx-121, frisco, tx 75034, 1-(972) 763-5523) was notified and stated that there was no way to replicate the failure without a diagnostic trouble code. the dealer did not test drive the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to call a dealer. the failure mileage was not available.

While driving my truck (typically at moderate speeds - 20 - 30mph) it will suddenly reduce rpms to about 500 and the speed will drop to around 5 mph. simultaneously with that occurring i will receive the following warning indicators "hill start assist not available" then another warning "hill descent control fault" then another warning "service advancetrac" then "see manual". this happens typically while accelerating and has occurred on city streets as well as while merging on a highway on ramp (bad situation). the resolution is to turn the car off an let it sit for a second then start it and drive slowly. this is widely documented across the internet with no identified cause and constitutes a severe safety hazard.

The trucks warning system has a serious problem that is hard to explain. the system will display multiple warning and error messages while driving. it happens infrequently, which is why the dealer can not fix it. the driver's display screen will cycle through many warnings, i.e. "transmission not in park", "parking brake warning", "4 by 4 warning etc. probably at least a dozen messages. its not just annoying. sometimes the turn signal will not work. the speedometer drops to 0 - while driving at highway speeds. cruise control usually wont work. so, to reiterate, while driving at highway speeds the electrical system malfunctions, the system beeps for each message, the display goes black, turn signals don't work, the radio doesn't work. this typically lasts for 5 to 20 minutes before clearing up. the dealer has seen the hundreds of warning and error messages that accumulate, but they can't fix it unless the root problem is still present. i have recorded video that demonstrates this problem.

While driving there is rattling inside of the steering column that started a few months back. now my alternator seems to not be working properly and the truck will only crank when i have all extras off (radio, ac, etc.) i also have to pump the gas for some reason for it to turn over completely. otherwise it just dies. never had a problem until last week when it wouldn't turn over at all. my battery is pulling 13.9 v and i have checked the connections. for a truck to be 3 years old and already need a new alternator appalls me. there is something else going on and the rattling in the steering column is somehow related to me having problems cranking the truck.

While driving on 1-90 the vehicle completely shut do n on its own 3 times so far . it is making us panic on our road trip. it is sunday so can't get it looked at until tom. we had a problem with it not starting as welll took it in to the puyallup dealer and they stated they could not find anything wrong and the problem could not be duplicated. i want there to be something in writing if anything happens to us on this trip.

2015 f150 2.7l ecoboost 31,908 miles... upon merging into traffic truck suddenly surges, followed by audible bang then abruptly loses all power "no driving conditions out of the ordinary, not under hard acceleration." warning lights on the dash light up and i have no control of vehicle. luckily i was fortunate to not have much traffic around me at the time and promptly coasted into a deserted parking lot to call my dealership. i am afraid to drive my truck now for fear of causing an accident due to mechanical/electrical failure, i don't want to die and don't want to put anyone it that position either. dealer replaced the throttle body and says its ok to drive yet the throttle body they used as a replacement is no different then the one that failed how can that be safe? i'd like them to trust a truck that ceased all essential operations (brakes, acceleration, power steering) with a wife and kids in the vehicle during morning rush hour in the fourth largest city in the united states with speeding drivers who don't pay attention to the road in front of them, then we will talk. this is a huge safety concern and a known problem with many other ford vehicles!!! fix it before someone gets hurt or dies as a result! do the right thing and hold the manufactures responsible its why we have the nhtsa. how is there not a massive recall with the eco boost engines in regards to the faulty throttle body, anything less is unacceptable. does someone have to die first?

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford f-150. while attempting to exit the vehicle, the automatic running board inadvertently retracted. as a result, the contact's foot was lodged between the running board and the vehicle. the dealer (buss ford lincoln, 111 north illinois route 31, mchenry, il 60050) was made aware of the failure. the manufacturer was also contacted and stated that there was no recall for that specific failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 51,000.

I was crossing a busy highway bridge and the truck started violently jerking and shaking, stuttering barely moving. i was able to limp over out of on coming traffic. was almost hit from behind. i took to ford house to have repaired. turns out the throddle body was defective and not covered under warranty. my specific vin number is not on the list even though it is a 2015 model vehicle. do i need to join the class action lawsuit to be reimbursed?

We had a throttle body issue this summer and had to have it replaced and towed. during driving, we lost all power, major safety issue! when i asked ford about it, they said they didn't know about the issue; however they issued several recalls regarding this. this truck isn't in the recall, which makes no sense. it is evident that ford has a major issue with their throttle bodies i have spoken with ford several times, they are not helpful and are refusing to pay for this.

There is an existing adaptive cruise control safety recall open for this year, make, and model, but my truck also experiences the exact same issues described by ford on their own site every time i use the adaptive cruise control: https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2015/09/30/ford-issues-five-safety-recalls-and-one-safety-compliance-recall.html i'm sure that the existing safety recall needs to be expanded to additional vins within the f-150 range of vehicles. it is extremely dangerous in the way it currently operates.

The "third brake light" is melting due to excess heat put off by the bulbs.not only is the housing melting but it has allowed large amounts of condensation in when it rains. this problem was first noticed roughly a year ago but continues to get worse. ford not only wants to charge me for a repair but they plan to use the same part which i have personally seen with the same issue in about a dozen 2015 f150s as well as read about it in various forums online effecting countless 2015 f150 owners. i have photos that date back to over a year ago that show the progression of the issue over time. my fear is that with time it may cause an even bigger issue by allowing water to come in and even be a potential fire hazard.

The panoramic sunroof locked up on me when i tried to open it... it would not open and it makes obnoxious noises under normal driving conditions ... there are many you tube videos on this ref. issue... ford is replacing the parts to the sunroof, i have read on many ford forums that this 'quick fix' will not correct the problem ... additionally the steering column always feels like it's positioned off center and veers to the right... i had the truck aligned, problem still exists... also i've had reoccurring issues with my sync/bluetooth and have advised my service advisors that the problem still exists, when i talk to anyone via the bluetooth i hear loud intermittent static throughout the phone call and the folks on the receiving end of the call all say that there is an echo in the phone line forcing me to end the handsfree sync call and therefore using my own bluetooth... ford service advisor stated it was because i have an apple iphone, i'm less than satisfied about how ford is handling this issue... i have complained more than 3 times on record about this issue

Unknown if takata recall or other air bag issue. i am investigating officer not vehicle owner. observed that post moving 2 car intersection crash and airbag deployment, b-pillar started on fire, melting seat belt, most of b-pillar and parts of curtain and side airbags. fire put itself out. owner was not injured but concerned. heat appeared to have melted seat belt through, air bags were burnt. case#m18-1676

Throttle body failed causing the truck to enter limp mode several times while driving almost causing a crash by being rear ended by oncoming traffic when trying to enter a hwy or interstate hwy. multiple electronic module failures since new. truck is a death trap.

My wife was driving our 2015 f150 on a local street and wanted to turn off the radio so she could speak with me. she accidentally hit the start/stop button and the engine shut completely off. we were doing 35 mph at the time and the truck was in "drive." we managed to wrestle the truck to a stop, put it in park and restart with no problem. vehicle was in motion on a city street. i tested it later in our driveway and the same issue occurred. i cannot believe that in a "push button start/stop" you should ever be able to shut the vehicle off while in motion and in drive or reverse. i contacted the ford dealership maintenance and they told me that was "normal."

I have a 2015 f150 king ranch with the 3.5l ecoboost. it has 41,000 miles and never had an issue until yesterday morning and today around lunch. this was from yesterday 10/23/17: hill descent control fault service advancetrac hill start assist not available i was pulling out onto a highway and the truck began shaking violently, moving very slow with no acceleration, power steering was lost, and the dashboard was showing all the above errors. luckily there were no vehicles coming when i entered the highway and there was a place to safely pull off the highway. the truck continues to idle rough and shake violently. and today 10/24/17: i was driving down the interstate at 70 mph when the truck did the same thing as yesterday morning. i was able to pull off the side of the highway and shut off the motor. once i restarted the engine, i was able to get it to the local ford dealership. they say they have no idea why it would be doing this and have not heard anything from ford or seen this in other f150's they have serviced. update: the dealership claims the fix is in a faulty electronic throttle body and they replaced it at a whopping price of $770. a simple google search shows ford has issues with etb's across vehicles of all classes and knows about it. in fact, some consumers seem to be involved in lawsuits against ford because of their unwillingness to issue a recall before someone is fatally injured. these were scary, scary situations with my vehicle and thank god my wife and kids were not with me. there is obviously an issue and ford needs to correct it at their expense.

Several non starting issues. on one occasion, instrument panel did not come on after starting the vehicle. it would have been unsafe to drive the vehicle with no indication of speed, engine/transmission information, and other vital data. after several restarts, instrument panel came on after a 45 second delay. a wrench warning icon was displayed on the instrument panel. took the vehicle to my servicing dealer the following day. they could not duplicate the issue, so no repair was made. the truck was stationary when this occurred. we were parked on a city street. this truck has had several electrical malfunctions since the vehicle was new. i have several service records which i will supply if needed to help your investigation.

tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford f-150. the contact stated while driving at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled. the instrument panel illuminated. the vehicle restarted after several attempts. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. a local dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted. the failure mileage was 55,042.

While traveling, with my children in the car, i had an electronic throttle body failure causing my vehicle to abruptly decelerate. this just so happened to occur while in traffic and in a curve but fortunately i was able to maintain control. i did not know at the time that this was the throttle body and assumed it was something wrong with the transmission. after the dealership told me the issue and the repair cost i decided to research it and it looks like this is a pretty common occurrence. i would like to see this issue made into a recall for safety purposes and for frequency of occurrence to other ford owners.

The adaptive cruise control slams on the brakes after just passing the end of a semi or large truck. it happens intermittently but has continued over the last 14 months. we have taken the vehicle to the dealer 4 times and they were unable to fix the problem. we traded the vehicle in this last week it still has the same problem .

April 26, 2017 the following components malfunctioned simultaneously when returning to truck from shopping: running boards would not deploy or retract; airbag(s) warning light on dash was lit; climate control system, both heat and cooling was out of service; front windows would not respond to controls; seat comfort functions did not work; mirror adjustment and retraction inoperable; back-up system and warnings inoperable; cross traffic system fault; blind spot warning error. wiring harnesses replaces and picked truck up may 12th 2017. that evening while driving with a trailer, a message appeared concerning the trailer being disconnected. that disappeared and then the following happened: warning messages began to appear on the driver's display screen saying, 'your vehicle is not in park', 'check manual', 'downhill assist not operational'. then the lights went out, the truck lost power (the engine was still running), it shifted into downhill assist, front windows didn't work, passenger seat moved by itself, driver's seat began to go back as if the truck was turned off, then it returned to driving position, the sync display went dead and came back on, the driver's display shut down and came back on. all these things continued to repeat as bells sounded and i limped 5 miles back to my son's house. same problems exhibited when son took truck to the dealer the following am without trailer. another harness replaced. picked up truck and drove without incident about 800 miles. when starting truck, trailer message reoccurred. there was no trailer attached. two days later after being parked, all the 1st set of failures reoccurred. running boards, ac-heat, air bags, windows, mirrors, cross traffic system, blind spot warning were all inoperable.

On 2/23/2017 while driving 50-55 mph on an expressway, the vehicle throttle became unresponsive. the tachometer still showed about 1,000 rpms, dash lights began illuminating, advancetrac was disabled, hill start assist was disabled, the wrench light enabled and a check manual light enabled. there also was a hard shift or clunk sound that came from the transmission. after shifting the truck into neutral while coasting, i attempted to turn off and restart the engine. engine successfully restarted, but the throttle remained unresponsive and all warning lights mentioned above returned. i pulled the truck safely to the side of the highway, and attempted to restart again. this time the engine sputtered and then i turned it off. next i removed the key, opened the door, closed the door, locked the truck, waited for the accessory lights to turn off, unlocked the truck, opened and closed the door and then restarted, and the truck seemed to clear the problem. i took the truck to the dealer and they later told me the truck is not storing any error codes in it's memory.

My 2015 ford f-150 was parked on my driveway. doors would not unlock in 14* northern michigan temperatures. my key fob, door key, and keypad would not open the locks after the truck was remotely started. an extremely dangerous situation if me or my family were participating in cold weather outdoor activities in remote areas. please refer to my uploaded document which describes the situation as it unfolded. i have read in online forums of other f-150 owners having the same kind of door lock issues. i have not found any safety recalls from ford. i am wondering why. doors that will not open are dangerous and potentially life threatening under the right circumstances. particularly in cold weather states like michigan.

The power locks on my truck to not operate properly. some times they will not unlock and some times that will not lock. this morning i unlock the drivers door and go to the store, i get to the store and unlock the rear drivers door. i come back out of the store and only 1 door of the 4 doors would unlock, (drivers door) i reach across and open the passenger door from the inside, put the groceries and then the passenger side door will not lock.

I was unable to open my 2015 ford f150 power doors using the key fob, door code buttons, or grip handle sensors. this was most concerning because the issue started with the rear doors; this caused my child to become stuck in the vehicle. the temperature was below freezing at this time. if i had not been able to release the door this would have been an immediate safety issues to my young children. this issue has since progressed to all doors becoming dysfunctional. my vehicle is now at the ford dealership. my vehicle was both stationary and in motion at the time of incident on city streets and freeway. if i had been in an accident and quickly needed to extract my children from the vehicle the issue of the doors not functioning and freezing could have put my and my children's well fare at extreme risk.
