Problems with 2011 Ford F-150 SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2011 Ford F-150 starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 63 585 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2011 Ford F-150

Started my vehicle and went to leave a gas station. stepped on brakes to stop for oncoming traffic and the pedal was hard as a rock and did not stop the vehicle. pressed super hard on the pedal and the vehicle stopped. it was fine after that until i got home, turned off the vehicle and left sit for an hour. started vehicle and the same issue happened again. did some research and found out about the brake vacuum pump issue. i called ford to see if my vehicle was on the extended warranty coverage (15n05), of course my vehicle was not covered. had my wife been driving this vehicle, i do not think she would have been able to press hard enough for it to stop.

Total loss of brakes, almost got into an accident. brake light warking suddenly came on, pulled over to check, empty brake fliud, fillled up the brake fluid, in 10 minutes all the brake fluid is gone. no signs of leak on the floor. towing it back to the hpuse

Brake vacuum pump failed which resulted in brake pedal being very stiff and brakes being very poor after a cold start.

Had ford customer satisfaction program 15n05 done on my truck january 2017 after vacuum pump noises in the front end. vehicle was at 90.5k miles then and is now at 120.5k miles. noticed a few weeks ago the vacuum pump was again making the same vibration noises at startup...probably even worse (noisier, several cycles of vibration instead of just one). since i was past their 1-year/12k mile warranty program on the unit, ford dealer and customer service have both declined to support another replacement in any way. was reading on f150 forums and other customers are experiencing the same faulty vacuum pumps after having the warranty work done. so, now i have a noisy vacuum pump and very slight pedal changes at first start-up that i must pay to fix. no incidents so far but now i'm on the hook for an additional repair after only 18months/30k miles with the ford recommend replacement pump. nothing on vehicles these days only has a 30k mile life. that's terrible. for safety's sake, i'm going to handle this replacement on my own and have no recourse at this moment for satisfaction besides to atleast report that ford replaced an easily failing vacuum pump with another easily failing vacuum pump and they do not stand behind that work. if this safety issue was severe enough to create a satisfaction program/extended warranty program the first time around, why is safety no longer important the second time around when it is failing again? answer - because they don't have the nhtsa investigating them this time around....maybe enough complaints like mine and it will re-open the case.

I own a 2011 ford f150 that was under a transmission recall that was very serious in nature: 16v248000 -ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 ford f-150 trucks, 2012 ford expedition, lincoln navigator, and ford mustang vehicles. the affected vehicles are equipped with an automatic transmission that may unexpectedly downshift to first gear, regardless of vehicle speed. i had this recall performed and ever since, i've had transmission issues. the transmission does not respond as it should. the truck takes off very slowly as it accelerates (very dangerous in traffic). on top of that it has shifting problems. the dealership (eby ford in goshen, in) has been no help whatsoever. now, on top of not getting this taken care of, i now have another issue with the vehicle (that's also been an ongoing problem): 'field service action number: 15n05. my vehicle has 152,xxx miles on it and they're saying they can't cover this because it's over 150,000. i need help getting this vehicle in a a safe driving condition so that i someone doesn't end up seriously injured or dead. please help! these things occur while the vehicle is being operated. there is only one option below for "when did this happen?". i selected today, however, this has been an ongoing thing since the original recall was performed (mentioned above).

No or poor braking right after engine startup and traveling in reverse (vacuum assist). very poor braking at emergency or panic stop (as if the brake lines need bled). travel speed at about 45mph. only 27k miles on vehicle. similar to concerns that prompted the ford 19s07 warranty extension for the electric vacuum assist unit, but this vehicle is not covered by that. ford dealership wants over $100 to diagnose brake system. very scarry driving!

The brake vacuum pump is not working. i'm unable to get into my car, start it then drive off. it needs to warm up for about 5 minutes to fill the pump. based on research that i have done, there was a recall on this part 15n05. but my vehicle doesn't list it as a recall. can i get an explanation why my vehicle doesn't list the recall? thanks

Upon starting vehicle and beginning movement, the brakes do not work for a short time. engine light has came on. pressing on gas pedal movement is sluggish.

Power train coming on all time / brake problems/ light coming on all times

The brakes do not work in the morning when i start up my vehicle.

While driving down the highway the fault code for timing chain p0016 came on and engine seized in the middle of the highway. i lost all power steering and brake power which caused me to almost collide with other vehicles trying to get off the highway with no power. after finally getting truck on the off ramp it took all i had to get it to stop at the intersection putting my life and the driver of the suv at the intersection life in danger.

After sitting overnight, and turning on the truck the vacuum pump is extremely loud. if driving the truck immediately the brakes will not work unless pushed very hard. after about 3 minutes the sound diminishes and the brakes work adequately.

From a cold start, the service brakes did not work upon initial application. with extreme pedal pressure, truck eventually stopped rolling narrowly avoiding impact. incident occurred in our driveway.

Had complete brake failure. was able to get the truck stopped. saw it was 2 pints low on fluid. added fluid, drove towards my auto shop, had to stop to fill the brake fluid again (the light went on this time). did this a few times. just before i got to the stop, the truck blew out some smoke, chugged, and the motor seized up. towed the truck to the shop, they found out the master cylinder leaked and the vacuum lines sucked the brake fluid out of the master cylinder and dumped it into the cylinders in the motor and this blew my motor. i hear there is a recall for this on 2014 f-150s but not on the 2011. terrible design. a brake problem should not blow up my motor.

Vacuum pump and brake booster has failed on my f150. ford states that the vehicle is not covered under "15n05" extended coverage/recall. vehicle was manufactured at the effected plants during the time listed in the bulletin. ford is charging me over $1300 to fix my vehicle, despite this being a known safety problem.

Complete brake failure. this is an absolute safety issue as i could not stop my truck until i put the vehicle in park nearly hitting another vehicle. the brakes will not stop the vehicle on cold start as the rpm's run slightly higher at idle. took 2011 f150 to dealer for servicing of the brakes and dealer was able to replicate issue and stated vacuum assist pump is not working and will be covered under a recall. brake vacuum pump was changed, dealer tested and called me and said truck was repaired. i pick the truck up from the dealer and back up, again no brakes, brake pedal is to the floor as i am still moving in reverse i put shifter into neutral and come to a stop. i then shift into drive to park the truck and again no brakes and drive over the curb protecting ford service department building before coming to a stop. dealer performs maintenance and finds that the brake booster has an internal issue causing bleed off loss in pressure. i ask if this is a recall item and the dealer states that it is not. waiting for repair to be completed and will cost $500 for parts and labor and was stated that this was a highly discounted rate.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle had not been started for a long period of time. as a result, the brake pedal was inoperable. the contact stated that the vehicle needed to be idling for a period of time before the brakes would work. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

When the vehicle is first started, the brakes do not work. when i crank the vehicle and put in reverse the brakes do not have any pressure and the vehicle slowly grinds to a halt when i press the brakes extremely hard. about 1-2 minutes after cranking the brakes work fine. i have nearly backed down a large hill multiple times.

Takata recall. the brakes will lock up and won't stop the truck even when pushed in all the way. after a few seconds it will go away but have still almost hit several things. this is very dangerous and i hope that this can be fixed. thanks

2011 ford f150 vacuum assist pump failed and was replaced on 10/19/16 at 79320 miles. the pump is failing again it makes a very loud noise. the truck now has 107757 miles and ford refuses to replace the pump under warranty recall. the new pump started making noise around 03/18 with 102000 miles. the new pump only lasted 17 months and 22600 miles. ford is replacing a bad pump with a bad pump

When starting truck after sitting overnight, the vacuum pump is loud for approximately 3 minutes. concurrently the brakes do not work which is a huge safety factor. when starting out of the driveway one cannot trust the brakes to engage when the petal is depressed. once the noise diminishes the brakes work.

While backing out of garage, after truck sat overnight, i had extremely hard brake pedal and almost no brakes, narrowly missing a parked car. after engine operates for a while, brakes return to normal operation. the problem occurs now when the truck sits overnight.

It is scary when the the break pedal locks in midair. we have to press it several times to get it to go down to the floor. this delays stopping the truck in a timely fashion. also there is a humming/ rattling sound in the vehicle. the truck has been off the road at least a month until we can afford to get this issue fixed. after calling the dealership we discovered that the truck was entitled to the customer satisfaction program extended warrentee notice 15n05 posted in 2016. however, it does not apply to our vehicle because it has 188,000 miles. this program should have been a recall matter since so many f150's had the same problem. it's not fair that so many people had to fight to the right to fix the issue and ford only gives consumers with over 150,000 miles just over one year to get it repaired for free. now we are forced to pay out of pocket for a defective electric vacuum pump which would have ended our worries with the breaks and the rattling sound. we would greatly appreciate help in getting ford to extend some of the manufacture warrantees and recalls to our ford f150 so that we could return to using our family/work truck safely. thank you.

No assist brakes sporadically do not work, almost causing three accidents. normally it is after the truck sits for a couple of days or when it's cold in the mornings. i put my foot on the brakes, start the truck, put it in reverse, and no brakes. i immediately press hard and the brakes grind coming to a slow stop. i've almost backed into a couple of cars. another i backed out of driveways and couldn't come to a stop until i crossed the street hitting the opposite curb. this needs to get recalled before someone gets seriously hurt. the dealer won't do anything unless i pay $150 and leave the truck for several days so they can test brakes manually themselves. 1) huge inconvenience and 2) no certainty that it will happen for them as it happens periodically.

When coming to a stoplight on a city street, brakes were applied but the engine raced to a high rpm . next i pushed pedal harder but rear tires were now spinning on dry pavement. i put f-150 truck into park stopping inches from the car stopped ahead of me at stoplight.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle shifted into first gear. the wheels locked, and the abs engaged. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (lake view ford, 12381 conneaut lake rd, conneaut lake, pa 16316), but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the issue and opened case number: cas-14072276. the contact was informed that the local dealer could use their pas to assist with repair fees, but no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

My 2011 ford f150 ecoboost is making a humming noise when you start the truck and move the shifter into a gear and apply the brakes., does this for about a minute or i rev the engine and it goes away. the brake pedal feels very week then the pressure comes back up. i have had this truck into gateway ford in greeneville tn since the second day i own the truck. the saleman said this is normal for this type motor. they also changed the spark plugs for a miss i was having in the motor. i have been to the dealer 4 times always get sent away like im crazy its all in my mind. don't know where else to turn any help would be very grateful. thank you this happens thru out the driving of the truck

Transmission unexpectedly shifts into lower gear. was informed by ford dealer in writing that i needed to replace the lead frame assembly. brakes fail on cold start. vacuum pump replaced by dealer. brakes still experience issue (as described in ford's campaign) was informed by ford that there was an issue with the brake booster.

While driving the vehicle around 45 to 50 mph the vehicle started skidding. the brakes were not applied when this happened the vehicle just started skidding on its own. the vehicle sounded like the transmission was coming apart. i contacted ford and told them about the issue and they said there were no recalls on the vehicle. i told them the this was a safety issue and that my wife has back problems and that when the vehicle started skidding it jerked us forward. if there would have been vehicles behind us or if we were going thru an intersection this could have caused a serious accident. they told me ford was not responsible and that i should take the vehicle in and have it serviced. we were driving on a highway when this occured.

After starting vehicle and shifting into reverse, brakes are hard to press, leading to increased stopping distance. has happened once in drive, only right after starting vehicle.

Occasionally on initial start up the brake pedal does not want to depress, feels very hard and does not engage the brakes. first time it happened i was parked on a slope and the truck rolled backwards and only after stomping on the pedal with both did it stop but by that time it had rolled about 30 feet. this happened about 8 months ago, and continues to occur after the truck has not been used for several days. i haven't parked only any slopes and i always back up slowly to test them before i drive, when it happens i pump them several times and then they engage. i've had them checked by mechanic but he has not found anything defective and has not been able to duplicate the situation. other than these occurrences the braking works normally.

My brakes haven't been working properly. it looks like the year of my truck had a recall. but according to my vin they never recalled my truck.

If i start my truck and immediately put it in reverse my brakes will not work, i have to let the truck sit for a couple minutes before my brakes will work. i have replaced my brakes thinking this would correct the problem but it did not. i have backed into a concrete post because of this. very unsafe

Temporary hard brake pedal condition at start-up followed by more normal pedal feel after a few seconds. when you first start moving you have to almost stand on the brakes pedal to get it the car to stop.

While driving at approx 65-70 mph on the entrance ramp to route 114 east bound from route 287 south bound (rhome, tx.) the brake light warning announced in the truck. i then went to test the brakes as they went all the way to the floor, i was slowing down but not much. i then had to use the manual transmission and downshift. finally coming to a complete stop approx 3/4 to a mile down the road. thankful no traffic at this time 615 pm (approx). the service report is attached the rear seal in the master cylinder failed, cause the booster to drawn in air and fail as well. as a not when the vehicle was stop i opened the hood and checked the brake reservoir was empty and you could hear air being sucked in. i had my 13 yr old daughter in the truck with me, as we were returning from her horse riding lessons. i don't image this "just fails" also as a note the vehicle was checked to include the brakes 04/01/2017 at that time the brake system was flushed - and another service (spark plugs) 04/10/2017 - in the looked at brake fluids and pads and rotors. no issues found, i also had checked my fluids on the weekend of may 6th, again no issues.

Master cylinder booster. backed out of drive and went forward. pushed brakes and the brake pedal went all the way to floor. this happened on a city street with no warning. took truck to ford dealer and they replaced master cylinder bypass and bleed system. there is a recall on the -150's but was informed mine wasn't covered.

Service bulletin was out for a break booster vacuum for 3 mdel years of the f150. had taken my truck in around mid may 2016 and the part was on back order. (had a loaner truck for over a month) part was installed and had my truck back a week or two before the 4th of july 2016. started hearing the noise again and was finally able to get my work schedule to work with me on getting my truck in today 10-17-16 and sure enough part is bad. now ford is saying it's on me to pay out of pocket for this part to be replaced again. barely 3 and a half months after it was fixed. claiming this was a customer satisfaction fix. there is no doubt why this shouldn't be a recall and why ford shouldn't be manning up and taking care of this issue. potential brake failure because of a reoccurring issue with this part on many other trucks.

Car indicated low brake fluid at traffic light 1... brakes operated properly for traffic light 2 then suddenly at speed brake pedal went to floor while attempting to slow for entry to highway on ramp after traffic light 3. i was able to avoid median at on ramp as well as two other cars while vehicle rolled to stop before traffic light 4.

I was approaching a red light at an intersection almost in front of my work in town. i was driving approximately 25 mph on boll weevil circle and applied brakes with plenty of room to stop. my brakes didn't seem to do anything so i pushed the pedal to the floor and i was barely slowing down. i believe i was slowing only because i wasn't accelerating. my anti lock brakes did not work. weather conditions: light rain. i did not skid! i hit the driver's side of a blazer which was coming from the right perpendicular to me. dps case 6687819 local case 2016-07-4597. i have hands free in my vehicle but no electronic devices were in use, there were no distractions. i was alone returning to work after lunch. after having my vehicle repaired i took it to the ford dealership and told them what happened. they ran a check and replaced the vacuum pump at no charge with a different type. i have had no issues since. unfortunately, they did not cover my insurance deductible and the increase in my insurance.

My truck won't stop i happens in the mornings a truck suddenly stopped i put my brakes on my truck didn't stop in time and i hit the truck in front of me got in accident this is the second time this has happened to me

The brakes fail and the pedal goes all the way to the floor. there is no warning whatsoever. i almost hit a house. i had just started the truck, shifted into gear and proceeded to move forward and when i applied the brake the truck would not stop.

Very hard to push break with both legs hard to stop when backing up and a noise clicking from somewhere sounds like from motor or dash ???? happend several times over last two weeks one being today at 7:50 am on may 20,2016 was afraid i was going to hit car parked on side of road when backing out of my driveway.

I have a 2011 ford f150 ecoboost. i received a extended warranty for issues occurring with the electric vacuum pump. i have diagnosed an issue with the brakes after starting the truck up. i started the truck up put it in reverse backed down the driveway and lost all ability to brake and stop the truck. if there was a vehicle or individual behind me there could have been an accident where injury or death could have occurred due to the inability to stop the truck with the brake pedal. i brought the truck to the dealership with the issue and they ignored the electric vacuum pump stating that it was the master piston and it would cost 700 dollars to fix. after doing research i believe i was lied too after others have reenacted the same situation that has occurred to me. if the braking issue occurs more than once i will escalate this issue to higher authority individuals at ford. this issue must be fixed before injury, death or litigation occurs.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 75 mph, the brake warning light illuminated and the vehicle required a longer time to stop when the brake pedal was depressed. the failure occurred constantly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder and brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 66,395.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed abruptly and hesitated to respond for a great distance. the contact also noticed smoke under the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic brake pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 282,830.

In 2016 i went to get recall repaired from franklin tn dealership i purchased the truck from, they refused, in 2019, they claim that the software was not available from ford, online in emails to another dealer, i have not been told when to bring truck in to get all recalls repaired. both dealerships are in tn. when in first gear, the truck will jerk back down and won't allow me to go to 2nd gear without pressing hard on gas, loud fan noise from the hood, breaks go to the floor and i have to pump to feel truck slowing down, air and heat continue to not work, air won't get cool and heat won't get hot, both dealerships have refused to repair or blamed ford for not giving them what they needed to fix the recalls. i am documenting so my family will be able to give this to attorney. the down shift happens when the truck is in drive moving on any and every street, parking lot, stop light/sign. the loud fan noise from the engine only happens when the truck is started, the brakes have been going to the floor for 8 years at different times of the day/night when driving.

Hard brake petal when first starting vehicle. takes up to 60 seconds to have power brakes. i have had this problem for two plus years.

The brake vaccum pump makes noise on start up. this is the second one since i have had it. theremember is also a loss of brake pressure. when tapping the brakes in reverse the pump will always make like a build up noise. also extreme brake dust is visible on rims. i have brakes and roars just under the best you can get.

No brake boost upon starting, when you start the motor when cold there is no brake vacuum boost for about 15 to 20 seconds.. the "brake assist pump" behind the left headlamp corrodes and locks up and untill the motor gets enough vacuum there is very little braking ability. ford gave me a new pump but i had to [xxx], i know you are looking into this, just wanted to let you know. this could very easily be a very dangerous situation. there should be a recall. please don't wait until a child gets crushed under a pick-up to act. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Electronic brake vacum pump is loud when starting the truck, breaks are hard at start and fail when in reverse. can hear the pump get loud at stops. this occurs every single time the struck is started and at idle. them pump is loud for aprox 30 seconds to 1 minute on each occurrence.
