We have classified the 144 complaints from 2011 Ford F-150 about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.

CRUISE CONTROL 1

Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2011 Ford F-150

Vehicle will down shift randomly and still haven't heard back from ford about a remedy it's an open recall

Transmission shifted in to 2nd at 50 mph..lost control hit a fence pole..blew up my tranny..nobody will help with towing

After receiving recall 19s07-19v-075 by mail and having it reprogrammed by crater lake ford medford,or the transmission shifts worse than the original. my vehicle was manufactured at georgia plant. 3.7 flex fuel. i was in cruise control going down a mountain pass with my foot on the brake and the cruise control failed to disengage and then abruptly shifted to a lower gear. the cruise control works flawlessly on most grades. the problem only seems to occur when during on highways in the mountains. 39k miles. way too many light bulbs have gone out on this model. never off-roaded . not a work truck. never even towed anything. since that downhill cruise control problem occurred, now i have an antifreeze coolant leak at the expansion overflow tank on the 3/4 quick disconnect hose . vehicle has never overheated. low speed high rev before shifting into 2nd gear. cruise control problem only on highway going downhill. did they mistakenly reprogram my f150 with wrong recall?

Put truck in drive start traveling down the street and then the truck down shift and jerk really hard or traveling at about 45 mph and it has a hard shirt!

I was driveling my truck from 6 gear jump down to 1 gear. i stop turn off and turn back on my truck was fine after that but now doesn't change from the first gear. this happen in highway 26 lucedale ms.

The service advancetrac light comes on regularly while trying the steering wheel at low speeds. it used to not be as common, but has gotten worse i. the past 6 months. today i tried slowing down while making a right turn and the steering g locked up on me mid-turn. based on the same diagnostics as hundreds of others with this problem, it's indicated that the entire steering rack will need replaced. ford knows about this problem with not just the 2011 models, but with the 2012 and 2013 models as well.

Truck was in 4th or 5th gear . was traveling aprox 40 - 45 m.p.h. with out warning transmission shifts into 1st gear. sliding on loose gravel.

After completing a required recall, my truck speedometer and odometer 'zero'd' out while in motion. this occurred multiple times, most recently while on the freeway. when it occurred on the freeway, the back wheels felt like they locked up. i pulled to the side of the road to check for flat tires, as that was my first thought. all tires check out ok. i turned the vehicle off and turned it back on. this caused the speedometer and odometer to return to normal functionality. i returned the vehicle to the dealership as i thought that the new update may not have been successful. the dealership advised that the software update process was successful and could not be redone. i read a couple of internet blogs of where other owners had the same type of issue. if the update caused other faulty parts to be exposed, i understand. however, the vehicle should not lock its tires while in motion, especially at freeway speeds as this is a serious safety issue. the picture that is attached is when the issue first occurred. the same indicators occurred the second time, when i was driving on the freeway.

On wednesday, march 13, 2019, i was traveling in my 2011 ford f150 vin#(xxxx) on the highway. during this time, i was traveling at approximately 65-70mph. about 1 minute after getting onto the highway, i felt a large knock in the transmission, and subsequently the vehicle downshifted from 6th gear into 1st gear, on its own, without warning! this action caused the rear tires to lock up, and the truck temporarily skid out of control, and drop speed to approximately 35-40 mph in the middle lane on the highway. thankfully, i was able to retain control of the vehicle, and there was not anyone near me, and i was able to avoid a serious crash. also, thankfully, i was on my way to work, and i luckily did not have my 5-year-old or 2-year-old in the vehicle with me. i immediately pulled to the side of the road, to compose myself, and re-evaluate the situation at hand. parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Regarding safety recall notice19s07, i called the dealership and they told me that they do not have the software to fix this until sometime in may, to call back at the beginning of may. how can i make ford resposible if something happens to me in the meantime? thanks!

My check engine light came on, code scanned was p0016. the code scanner states it's an issue with the timing chain loosening over time. the truck has a very prominent rattle sound for about 2-3 seconds upon an initial start up in the cold weather. the other day i went to pass someone, and lost power in the engine and my truck would not accelerate past the car. ford is aware of the issue, as people all over the country and canada are having the same issue with 2011-2012 ford f150 with the ecoboost engine. to me this seems like an obvious safety issue that ford should take care of. seems like an engineering flaw to me. the timing chain coming loose, and engine rattling like it's coming apart has to be causing damage as time goes on. the problem i had while trying to pass the car was on a lane 55mph road.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving approximately 55 mph, the transmission downshifted into first gear independently. the vehicle was taken to village motors inc. (784 wooster rd, millersburg, oh 44654) where it was diagnosed that the software needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 57,000. .*bf consumer stated truck downshifted to first gear on two consecutive days. one time at 55mph and second time at 35 mph. ford dealership said software unavailable for repair.*jb

Una falla intermitente en el sensor de velosidad de salida oss en la trasmision del vehiculo

Upon starting vehicle and beginning movement, the brakes do not work for a short time. engine light has came on. pressing on gas pedal movement is sluggish.

My f150 transmission started shifting from 3rd to 1st in january 2019 on a highway by my house. this happened a couple of times and i took to a transmission shop. replaced the transmission and two weeks later i got the recall notice from ford 19s07 in february. ford said that if i took to a ford dealer, they could help, but i didn't because i was not under warranty. i called a ford dealer and in may they still do not have the software to fix. i would have not been able to use my truck since february. i feel that i'm stuck in the middle. what would ford have done if i took to a ford dealer in january?

On monday january 6th i started my vehicle and let it warm up then when i tried to put my truck into reverse and when i put the shift lever in reverse the electronic transmission prndl display did not indicate the letter r for reverse and the backup lamps did not operate. after that i tried each gear and none of them were working so i put it into park and then back into drive it slammed into gear and then i was able to drive. the day before i got into my vehicle after it warmed up then put it into perverse and it did not go into reverse at all or drive. as a result i took it to midas in my town and they told me that there was a safety recall on my vehicle due to the codes and behavior so they advised me to take it to ford dealership for it to be fixed for free. i did so and i asked about a recall and they reported to me that there is no recall and they want me to pay full charges this is a safety concern that can be taken care of by the dealership and i am missing work and out of the vehicle due to this delay and i'm still making payments on my vehicle that is not safe to drive.

Power train coming on all time / brake problems/ light coming on all times

Molded lead frame and oss replacement. i was not notified of the molded lead frame recall 16n02. i experienced the electrical issue described in the recall in my driveway. my dashboard lit up like a christmas tree and would only drive in first gear. i drove to a mechanic that was closer than the ford dealer and was off of back roads so i could drive in first gear. i paid for the repair. i recently received a recall notice 19s07 which is for programming the oss sensor. i asked to be reimbursed for my repair and i was told no by crescent ford & trucks. they said 19s07 is for programming only. i believe ford should reimburse me for the lead frame, connector, automatic transmission fluid, and the speed sensor.

2011 f-150 pick up has had 3 episodes of suddenly downshifting to first gear in highway speed & in town. nearly caused an accident. exactly as described in recall (16v248000), it has been towed to the dealer; absolutely unsafe to drive. ford customer service told me it would not be included in the recall. dealer wants $1400 to "fix" the problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, there was a sudden loss of engine power and the vehicle hesitated to the point that it could stall without warning. capital ford (3660 s carson st, carson city, nv 89701, (775) 882-5353) was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to schedule a diagnostic appointment. the vehicle hesitated while at a stop, during acceleration, and while making a turn, which caused the contact to have to downshift. customer service campaign program number: 15n05 (electric vacuum pump recall) was referenced as a possible cause of the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

Vehicle chooses when to pick up speed vehichle jerks (trying to change gears) odometer stops reading vehichle jerks comes to an immediate down shift (stop) vehichle does this in motion and it can be at any rate of speed

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle downshifted to first gear on its own. the contact pulled over and shut the vehicle off for approximately two minutes. once restarted, the vehicle operated normally. the failure occurred seven times last week. the vehicle was taken to empire ford of new bedford (395 mt pleasant street, new bedford, ma 02746) where it was diagnosed that the output speed sensor was defective and forced the vehicle to downshift to first gear. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

While driving my 2011 f150 i got of i99 at the tyrone exit. while slowing to a stop at about 35 mph the truck shifted from 5thgear to 1st which cause the wheels to squawk and slide almost causing me to lose control, i pulled over in the bk parking lot shut it off an restarted once i put it in gear to drive it showed i was in 5th gear so i shut it off again waited a few minutes s td started it again and this time it was in 3rd so i repeated. the next time it was in first so i drove home the back roads to be safe as i got up to speed it started to act up again the speedometer show i was going 0mph but i was going 25mph again the truck slammed in an out of gear i took it to my local ford deal they diagnosed it as a lead frame hope this fixes the problem as i'm scared to drive my truck. i do have videos of when its acting up but i cant figure out how to upload them.

Vehicle downshifts while driving abruptly and without cause. this has occurred at highway and city speeds as well as with and without a trailer in tow. the front end still is all over the road, following tire replacement, brake replacement and alignment.

The truck almost stalls or remains at idle regarding of gas pedal input. an intermittent "wrench" icon may appear in the instrument panel. recycling the engine will temporarily clear the issue. this occurred each time after being stopped at idle at a traffic light. this is an extremely dangerous situation! i don't understand how this is allowed. the ford dealer i called said the throttle body should be cleaned every 30,000 miles.

As i push hard on the gas pedal to accelerate, the engine misfires with a "clunk" feel and sound eld/heard in the cab. the engine continues for a bit and then happens again, and again until i release the gas pedal. this has nearly caused two accidents as i went to accelerate on the highway to 1) get out of the way of a driver who was ignorantly moving into my lane and 2) went to accelerate around an obstacle in the roadway and had to cut into oncoming traffic.

The speed odometer jumps around and the gears change sporadically. after having this check by my mechanic, they feel that it is the power train control module and speed sensor. they found a recall for this model f150 but it did not include the date of build on my vehicle. recall 16s19. it is dangerous because you don't have any notice as to when it might act up and you loose power without any warning. it happens when driving on whywayans side streets, high and low speeds. it feels as if the gear is dropped from 5th to 1st and back.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while the gear shifter was in the reverse position, it failed to accelerate without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the failure mileage was 116,000.

I had filed a complaint last year after a recall was put in place for 2011 f150 for the power control module and lead frame speed sensor and was told that my vehicle was not in the date range. i had the ford dealership repair this at my expense and was told that i would be reimbursed by ford if a recall was announced for my date of manufacture. now that my vehicle is included in the recall, i asked the dealership to submit the paperwork so that i could be reimbursed and got a call back saying that ford was not going to reimburse me for my expense. can you assist with this matter ?

Transmission jumps in and out of gear with no apparent relation to vehicles speed or throttle position. if the transmission decides to drop into 1st at sufficient speed to lock the drive wheels this is terrifying and inherently dangerous. ford knows this condition exists on 6r80 transmissions but seems unwilling to widen the recall. maybe someone needs to die before they address this. its a miracle this hasn't lead to a loss of life incident yet.

2011 ford f150 traveling at 65 mph straight down the highway the transmission seemed to slip out of gear and then down shifted to first gear causing the wheels locked up and loss control of the truck and ran off the road into a dry ditch. research show a safety recall for this exact problem. safety recall notice16s19/nhtsa recall16v-248. ford motor company say my vehicle is not covered in this recall. also fords info for this recall states that 2011 f150 built at dearborn plant between the dates of february 11 2011 to september 8 2012 are covered in this recall. my vehicle falls into this category but is not covered. if i were to have been on a heavily traveled road this could have cause a serious accident

While driving my transmission changed gears speraticly from 1 to 2 to 5th back to first causing my rear end to lock up temporarily then service light came on. the meters showed that it was the output shaft speed control sensor. i was in waynesboro, ms on john perry mcmichael rd.this problem had occurred in many of the 6r80 transmissions of this same year.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle independently accelerated while stopped and crashed into another vehicle. there were no injuries. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to jim navarre ford (2051 w monroe rd, alma, mi 48801), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

Output speed sensor (oss) failure (recall: 16n02). i was driving down a city street at approximately 45 mph, when the vehicle suddenly down shifted from fifth gear to first gear and then shifted back into fifth gear after approximately 10-15 seconds. later that day, i was accelerating from a stop light when the vehicle felt like it had lost power and began to jerk when i pressed the gas. the speedometer stopped working, the info center displayed all dashes, the rpm's increased and the service advanced trac message displayed and the engine light illuminated. i had the codes from the engine light read and it came up as p0720 fault. my vehicle is experiencing all of the signs listed in the recall, but is not included. my truck was manufactured in the dearborn plant within the time frame of the recall dates. i have contacted ford and the dealership and they could not explain why. i have attached a pdf of the recall.

The speedometer begins swinging erratically then the truck automatically downshifts from 6th gear to 1st gear at full highway speed (70 mph) causing the back tires to lock up and skid down the road. extremely dangerous. contacted ford and they said they were aware of the problem and there is actually a recall on this very problem, but not for my truck since it was not within the recall dates by a few months. took the truck to two different ford dealerships and they said they don't know what is wrong with it, but could do the work outlined in the recall as long as i paid for it. see attached recall notice from ford's website- ford issues safety recall and customer satisfaction program for certain 2011-2012 ford f-150, and 2012 ford expedition, ford mustang and lincoln navigator vehicles in north america to update powertrain control module software and inspect for certain diagnostic trouble codes ford is issuing a safety recall for approximately 202,000 2011-2012 ford f-150, and 2012 ford expedition, ford mustang and lincoln navigator vehicles for a potential issue with the output speed sensor on the vehicle's transmission lead frame. under certain conditions, the transmission controls could force a temporary downshift into first gear. depending on the speed of the vehicle at the time of the downshift, the driver could experience an abrupt speed reduction that could cause the rear tires to slide or lock up. this condition could result in loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. ford is aware of three reports of accidents and no injuries related to this condition.

I almost lost my life just leaving work. made a right onto hwy & almost got smashed, no power in the peddle, with a semi coming at me full speed i'm sitting there trying to go, he blew his horn passing me in left lane... crazy!!!!!!! this really should be a recall, not just cuz of me but for the safety of everyone!!! not cool!!! without a doubt this is a safety defect! reduced power during hard acceleration nhtsa preliminary evaluation #pe13018 status: closed date opened: may 22, 2013 date closed: april 07, 2014 recall: no recall issued component(s): engine engine and engine cooling summary: on may 22, 2013, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened pe13-018 to investigate 95 complaints alleging incidents of reduced engine power during hard accelerations.

I was sitting in a fast food line waiting to place order. the truck was running and my right foot was on the brake. (i am a one foot driver.)the truck began to inch forward. i pressed on the brake and the engine began to accelerate. i pressed hard on the brake and the rear wheels began to spin. i slammed the gear shift into park and cut the engine off. i re-started the engine and was able to pull the truck out of the line. after re-starting the engine a couple more times i was able to drive the truck home. this occurred on october 14, 2016. i parked the truck and called my local ford dealer. he said i needed to bring it in. i needed to move the truck in the mean time and it did it again. the truck accelerated with my foot on the brake. the ford dealership couldn't get the truck to repeat the problem. they talked to the ford regional manager and i was to bring the truck back when they had a service rep available to fully check it out. i chose to leave the truck at the dealership rather than risk driving it. the dealership kept the vehicle for almost two weeks, said they drove it 273 miles and couldn't get the problem to repeat. and if they couldn't get it to repeat the problem they couldn't help. the ford regional manager said the same thing. i have a lot more notes but they pretty much say the same thing. can you help me? i am concerned about driving the vehicle without it being repaired. isn't there a class action lawsuit about ford trucks doing the same or a similar thing? please let me know.

Vehicle loses power and misfires when accelerating especially at 50mph or higher. recurring problem over the years. mostly an issue when passing on two-lane highway. extremely dangerous.

I have a 2011 ford f-150 pickup truck. recently i have been experience issues with the truck randomly shifting to first gear. i checked the ford website and there is a recall notice number 16s19 covering this very issue. i took the truck to the local ford dealer and they test drove it. they were unable to duplicate the action. they said that there was nothing they could do. i had no choice but to take the vehicle. the very next morning it happened two times on my way to work. i think this is a very unsafe situation and ford or the dealership should provide me a vehicle until it is fixed. if i experience this random downshift while in traffic it could very easily cause an accident resulting in serious injury. the ford dealer is bedford ford located in bedford pa.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle lost power. in addition, the check engine warning light illuminated. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 86,000.

While crossing a major intersection the car came to a stop. the engine and the electricity stayed on however rpm's dropped to less than 1000 and it just rolled to a stop. i pressed the accelerator and nothing happened. this persisted for 10 seconds. luckily, just before i was almost hit the accelerator started working again and i barely made it clear. i brought the truck in as it is still under warranty and they said they know exactly what the issue is but can't fix it until they can re-create it. they have seen this on many f-150's of this year and type. they have had my truck for 3 days and can't make it happen again so they have asked me to come get it, knowing it has this issue. my take on this is i am a guinea pig until it happens enough, someone dies and a recall starts.

#1: driving down the interstate, attempting to pass a semi; vehicle lost power as i tried to accelerate and we had to coast to a stop. this has actually happened twice. the first time they replaced the intercooler and the second time i replaced the spark plugs. it occurred about three weeks after getting the vehicle it's regular service. if there was a problem with the gaps on the plugs, and they knew cars were losing power because of it, then they should have mentioned that at the service! #2: driving down the interstate and speedometer jumped around and went to zero. after i got off the highway, i lost power and had erratic shifting while trying to cross an intersection. there's a tsb out for this too!! why isn't there a recall if there's a defective part that creates dangerous situations!?!?

When driving the truck and i hit the brakes, sometimes the car automatically accelerates having a hard time trying to control the speed of the truck. went to the dealer and it didn't happen to them, can't explain why this happens. now i have to brake a great distance in advance before actually going to stop because i don't know if and when it will happen again. it also happened when i was backing up into a parking space and had to jam in park to stop it. it just happens with no warning. it has happened several times in the past two years.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the rpm's started revving excessively high and loud without depressing the accelerator pedal. the speedometer, the tachometer and the gear selector also failed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the body control module and the transmission change sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 189,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the cruise control engaged independently. the contact was unable to disengage the cruise control while depressing the brake pedal or depressing the off switch. the contact was able to switch the ignition key to the off position to slow the vehicle. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. the contact stated that the failure recurred seven times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 10,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed and the gauges in the instrument panel began to fluctuate. the check engine and the wrench warning light illuminated. in addition, the gear shift indicator began to change rapidly. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle shuddered and failed to accelerate properly. when the failure occurred the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the failure occurred approximately nine times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer however was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 58,296. the vin was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the accelerator pedal and the throttle would remain stuck. as a result, the vehicle accelerated without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the repairs were unknown. the failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

Driving on highway at 70mph, i saw my speedometer momentarily drop to 40mph. it did it again about 15 seconds later, and downshifted to about 4th gear momentarily. about a minute later, still at 70mph the speedometer dropped, and the transmission downshifted to 1st gear! my rear wheels locked up, and i lost control, and fishtailed for a few seconds. luckily i had taken a half day vacation and was not in rush hour traffic. still other cars had to swerve to keep from being hit. the dearlership was able to reproduce the problem, and replaced a moulded plastic module made by continental that i think contained the transmission speed sensor. so it appears that when the transmission speed sensor signal is lost, the failure mode is to downshift to 1st gear no matter the speed of the vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving at various speeds with the cruise control activated, the vehicle independently accelerated in excess of 80 mph. the contact was able to stop the vehicle by shifting into neutral and shutting off the engine. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. the contact stated that the failure recurred on several occasions. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000. updated 08/16/16*lj
